Consumables disabled in dungeons ... upset!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Look. The entire concept of nerfing skills or items because they might allow a skilled/clever player to solo a Dungeon is just absolutely absurd. I don’t care how clever, it’s still going to take that person a lot longer to complete a dungeon solo than to just complete it in group.

In other MMOs, soloing dungeons was bad, because you could essentially get a groups worth of loot for one person. In GW2, loot per person doesn’t change based on the number of people in the party. You get the same loot you would have gotten in a group, but it takes you longer, so you actually are earning less than you would with a good group.

Now, if someone is actually using a skill or consumable to run a dungeon in much less time than normal, that’s an issue, but it’s an issue you solve by modifying the dungeon, not by nerfing something that has legitimate use because someone was more clever than the devs who designed the dungeon!

I just don’t believe that any of those consumables did more than make runs somewhat more efficient.

I really hate when developers get bent out of shape over players “solving” their content is ways the developer didn’t anticipate. Far too often nerfs are more about wounded pride than a real unbalancing of the game. (The numerous invisible walls cutting off alternate paths to some Vistas in the game is a great example. It’s a lot more fun for players to try to identify the most efficient path among more than one available than to be barred from alternative solutions just because they weren’t deliberately meant to be alternative paths by a developer)!

He says what we’re all thinking!

But seriously, I agree 100%.

I think our blinds should activate, block the attack and all attacks done during that second from the character. This would make them less useless against classes that use fast chain attacks to nullify the block.

Agreed, Red Falcon. I would also like each class to be able to spec into certain things and do them in its own way. Fights could be longer and more interesting and the game would match their advertisements.

I think a large part of it is that they think that because we can tank bosses or survive in melee it means we are more powerful than those other classes.. They have tunnel vision.

I feel they start believing that the ability to survive in melee range is enough for a class to warrant nerfing every other mechanic that class has. In other words, heavy armor will always be nerfed until we can’t tank in melee range and the other classes start complaining because they die with noone absorbing their damage for them.

I always hear ____ is op because it can survive in melee range. Zerg mentality rules modern times, just look at WVW. People don’t think outside of the box.

All I really want is balance, it came so easy in many eastern mmo’s I’ve played. How are those devs so much better at it? The math on much of the skill potential just isn’t balanced here. You and I bother to do the math and realize how useless some things are.

Its horrible. It was a lazy job.

When the -fire- elemental floats more and has more airlike qualities than the air elemental, there is a problem.

Make a humanoid elemental made of clouds with lightning pulsing through it.. and make sure it -floats-. Yah know, like air.

If this was a power outlet elemental they hit it dead on. Problem is that it is not.

Ideally one uses hammer and the others smack the mobs with every dps skill they can.
Greatswords still great, but its way easier to hit cc’ed mobs with it.

The team can have many layers, like an onion or a guy who doesn’t want to freeze his pants off in the svanir fractal.

Hammer is nice, the swing speed isn’t nearly as much of a problem as you’d think for proc stuff.

If you also bring any consumable that knocks down or cc and mix them in with normal gameplay for the more difficult times.. well.
It becomes more than viable with those cc gap fillers.
CC isn’t the best against bosses obviously but if you use gap fillers its a little better if you -must- stick with hammer during the duration.

Hammer + aforementioned things are fantastic for zerglike content and it takes alot of pressure off of your team.

I’d love the condition duration dealie! I’d love the cripple/chill duration even more because it could make us way more competitive.

Our description says we are supposed to “soldier through” conditions and absorb damage though.. so I am not sure ANet would buy it. >.<

Even if we currently don’t really “soldier through” conditions and have to use just as many condition removals as other classes, haha.

They really just need to look at their class descriptions and take steps to make them true.

The downed system- PVE: yes - PVP: no

Warrior only takes 15% less damage (same as guard but higher hp) and unless we trait our downed skill its a corpse walk. It is also useless traited in pvp because we’d have to kill the opponent, not just down them. that requires a stomp or serious time, more than 15s. If we are able to get lucky there might be fodder around, but most of it doesn’t give exp anymore so doesn’t count for the downed skill.

Compare with other professions that have ridiculously powerful downed skills.
Also, they have sustain.
You can have all the hp in the world but it won’t make a lick of difference if you have no sustain.

No.. no the downed skills aren’t balanced.

No.. no the downed skills aren’t balanced.Engineer needs buffing in several areas, but you know how I know for certain the downed skills weren’t thought of with wvw in mind?
If you down an engineer while defending a keep on the wall, they become 100 times more dangerous because they can now pull you to them and 1hko you with fall damage from the wall.

Why does everyone hate Trahearne?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sahfur.5612

I always expect him to have a tardis. He is like Tyrias Doctor Who. I think its the hair.

Even still, that sword rightfully belongs to me because I would throw colorful parties with it. Death parties.

Also he hacks, necro can’t use greatsword and is only able to use one elite golem.

-> It could also be the result of being a timelord though.

Anyhoo, I preferred Rowan Atkinson or David Tennant as The Doctor. The hair looks better on Tennant than Trahearne. I guess Trahearne DID heal something though so bonus points. If he works hard he can come out of the negatives.. for having the shiny sword. I WANTED THE SHINY. I bet I could sell it on the TP for alot of monies.

The real thing we are all thinking is: Why can’t we just follow Kudu around instead. He has a cool lab, lots of experiments, was trying to take over a dragon like someone else did. He even sounds cool and is halfway competent at breaking stuff. He even made a boss that is basically every Resident Evil boss ever rolled into one. Kudu wins!

Kudu or David Tennant or Rowan Atkinson > Trahearne.

When I ran COE, I always thought: Hey, this Kudu guy is pretty cool.
He even gives me stuff to loot and destroy and this lab is fun!

Why didn’t Trahearne ever give us stuff to wreck? Friends don’t let friends run out of stuff to hit with their sword.

Why does my character run slower when hit?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Sahfur.5612

Sahfur.5612

Is it fun? No.

Does it keep people from doing content they normally wouldn’t? Not really, it just annoys them while experiencing the content and causes them to end up experiencing less content over more time.

Does it favor classes with evade and sustain? Yes.

Does it make sense? No. Adrenaline does not cause people to suddenly walk at half speed. If anything you become faster.

-> Bad mechanic.

There are better ways to gate content to stop “naked people from running” who wouldn’t accomplish anything from doing so anyway. They already have mobs focus lower leveled players in high level content, they aggro from further away or at least seem to. They definitely prioritized me when I ran to orr at low level just for the fun of it. It was easy enough to evade attacks and avoid combat so its not like the mechanic really holds any serious purpose to stop runners.

A bandage does not equal a surgery.

Edit: It also hasn’t exactly stopped me from running out of combat to survive. We have enough evades that it just doesn’t matter. It doesn’t even help with l2p stuff. Its just annoying and ends up causing us to take longer to do anything in the game.

Idea to replace 3% damage in disc traitline

in Warrior

Sahfur.5612

I’d rather it just give 30% damage reduction overall when maxed so we’d be a bit harder to kill like we were supposed to be. Or a 30% chance that everything is a glancing blow regardless of if it was a critical or not.

Alright, maybe a bit powerful but you get my idea. We need something to deal with sustain.

I’ve always liked the idea of giving us a boon so we would have a unique mechanic. The boon would make any passive healing much more effective for some time or give us a special adrenal heal type thing that scales with burst damage we receive.

We get bursted -> we heal faster/regain a percent over time.

It would help us deal with burst damage at least a bit. Reminds me of wolverine.

More damage in -> more health taken back.

Alternatively it could stack according to some formula using damage we receive and reduce damage past that point instead of healing it.

Most people ignore the majority of the adrenaline moves anyway.. Only a few of them are useful like axe/rifle/hammer. All classes have some sort of unique mechanic. We hardly use ours and our trait system for it was completely obliterated over several patch. I think its safe to say that it can be sacked in favor of something more useful.

I guess anything that makes it so we die slower from stuff that would gank us but at roughly the same rate from things that chip away slowly.

I also feel faster because I’m smaller and its easier for me to hide and sneak attack.

In all celestial with the posterior cape from arah, claws from cof, t1 cultural gloves and shirt, feathery looking shoulders from TA, and cultural t3 helmet.

Alternatively t3 shoulders as well. Floaty lights!

Not many weapons that look good with celestial dye so HOTW greatsword is nice.

Alternatively everything looks cool with abyss and red glowy bits with whatever sinister weapon you can find.

Anyhoo the t3 makes you look like a small vicious gundam kind of.
It looks a bit like something you’d see in Tron.

Also the hammer adrenaline animation is fun because its ludicrous to see a 3 feet tall asura go flying through the air like Thor and smash the ground causing a crater.

AOE Weakness combo and stealth rezzing are fantastic and I will invite a thief to my party for these alone if they are able to survive on their own enough that we don’t have to babysit them.

There are alot of “small” things that thief does that add up if you look at it that way.

Glass cannon thieves that die repeatedly are very different from glass cannon thieves which are able to survive using tricks. They can help with survivability alot.

- FGJ spam doesn’t mean the skill is imbalanced actually. It is convenient due to low cooldown for shout specs and is convenient due to might for glass specs.
It just speaks volumes for how boring/too high of a cooldown the other utility choices are. Most warriors either go shouts or zerker.. so most warriors use that utility. Alot of thieves use shelter also, but it is fine.

when is the balance coming?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sahfur.5612

Its fairly true, I mainly simply ignore engineer in wvw now because they pose no threat unless I am on a wall and I down them. In that situation they can 1hko.. that downed skill wasn’t exactly thought out for wvw.

Necro has been getting a little love.. at least its something.

I suppose alot of the issues in actuality come down to:

Class A has higher total potential for any given situation than Class B.

The balance needs to be cyclical, like rock-paper-scissors.

Currently, I’m rolling a guardian because warrior has no sustain and I was able to tank a group event two levels above myself without being hit once at lvl 20 something.
I felt powerful on my warrior, but this class can solo dungeons and most content with relative ease.

I watched these videos of guardians doing this stuff and realized I could have a higher plateau of power and usefulness to my guild. I want to help them with the most powerful toon I can. Its natural.

I’ll be honest, I used to be a greatsword ranger. I rolled a warrior. Now I am rolling a guardian.

I am able to do more things – and easier. With each change my potential has grown.
Something about not getting hit once by a boss that can 3 shot me due to the ability to make them miss every single attack just makes me smile.

These other classes need to have relatively similar pve potential. Potential could be defined by the most amazing deed one can accomplish with the least amount of effort. If you are just really good at a class and can do neat things, thats not a reflection on the game balance.

My suggestion? Roll all the classes and just play whatever feels most balanced to you. You feel more fulfilled if you feel useful, really. Fun is important too.

Yeah though, when I wouldn’t care if engineer had double current effectiveness.. something is off. I don’t even play one.

I have no interest in reading the entirety of this or commenting directly, however I must applaud Martin Kerstein for one thing:

You allow debate to continue naturally and do not censor it like some. A forum should not exist within a bubble and you actually seem to take steps to gather information and the feedback of the player base.

I have been reading several posts and realized that you are unlikely to close threads until they really are completely pointless, not because it has something in it that you don’t want to read.

I applaud you for that, Bravi Bravi Bravi. Credit is due.

I feel the ability for people to speak candidly is important in any situation where information is shared. This atmosphere used to simply not exist on these forums but perhaps it has been introduced.

TLDR;
Its great to see these things read and discussed and not trashed immediately in recent times. Kudos.

That shows a linear progression toward a similar end: problems.

All in all, it doesn’t matter where the problem comes from as long as it is being fixed.
At the end of the day it doesn’t matter that I’m right about why the lag happened and why the crash happened. All that matters is that it is being fixed. Trying to divert attention away from the problems guesting has caused is dangerous.
Diverting attention away from any problems caused by any new element in any construction is dangerous.

1. It is related.

Guesting was the cause of the immense lag, its plain as day.

So alot of people in an instance won’t effect the servers right?

Why do overflows exist do you think?

Are you meaning to tell me that you see them all as separate entities? They are connected, like the organs in your own body. What happens if one of those fails?

Pardon me, but I find it very naive to believe that it wasn’t the cause of the crash considering the circumstances.

INB4 common sense.

I am sure you have spent alot of time coming to your conclusion, and are duly educated on the subject matter at hand. However, I am a game developer for real games.

I’ll explain how servers and dynamics can work:

Bad thing happens over there, that bad thing causes another bad thing to happen, which causes another bad thing to happen. One bacteria can infect you. One naive person can help spawn other naive people which eventually become a giant gelatinous misshapen mass of naivety which serve only to annoy and halt the progress of people attempting to discuss things with any degree of seriousness.

Its a crescendo effect. One bad thing can crash a server.

Something needs to be done.

I love party guests, but not when there isn’t enough chlorine in the pool.

They keep relieving themselves in our pool water. Either add more chlorine or reduce the guest list.

The event reminded me of why I don’t go to public water based theme parks:
-ALL- dragon-like events since guesting have.

Not all people know about dragon timers or chests yet.

The logical conclusion is that eventually more will.
Logically, if this crash happened as it did (which it did)..

We can make another logical prediction: More crashes will happen if things are not done.

More people see zerg, more people hear about rares from chests, more people share the link to the timer website with friends. The server population already grew by itself. These factors add multiplicative-ly to the problem.

This is not an issue that will go away and it will get exponentially worse.

I realize that it only takes common sense to come to these conclusions but I feel some might need it explained to them.

Things usually get worse before they get better.
In theory, if no moves are made to fix this, the players which are unhappy with the fact things are going how they are do indeed have a recourse (that naturally happens and ensures that this kind of stuff is a ticking time bomb):

Make sure it burns up fast enough to ensure something -IS- done. Thats what will end up happening and its unsettling to me.

That simply means people will share the website link with everyone they know and even ones they don’t. The servers will crash and it will become necessary to do things sooner rather than later.

Creeping illness often follows with creeping recovery. Fast illness which is brought to attention early can be treated with haste.

In short: Things get fixed faster when they are more of a problem. The closer a fire is, the harder it is to turn a blind eye to it. Thats human nature.

Its kind of out of hand. The “epic” battles are no longer fun. You should not have to worry about if you were able to fire enough shots during an entire battle to get credit.

I did get credit, because I am fortunate.

Many did not.

We can either have dragon timer websites or guesting, both together cause horrible server crashing and lag.

Solution? You can only get chests from your own server.
Either that or buy new servers. A better overflow system for these specific instances could even help.

Even better, make it so they can only get chests from their home servers for these events until the servers are upgraded, then allow them to guest for chests again.

Edit: It is entirely obvious just from looking at the droves of chat during the event that a large population there were guests.

I have no problem with guests but something needs to be done to remedy this situation and the least harmful way would be to make guested events not give those chests until the servers are upgraded.

It was sort of too powerful as it was, but a more reasonable cooldown should be given.

I would say 10-20 second cooldown for ash legion so you either can stay stealthed for 1/3 of the time or 1/2.

I would say apply the same ratio for whispers and give it a 3 to 9 second cooldown.

Probably 20 and 9 make the most sense to prevent it from being powerful. It would make sure timing is necessary while also not invalidating their existence entirely.
At the very least, halving the ash legion to 30 and cutting the whispers cooldown by 1/3 is reasonable. 60 seconds is not worth a bag slot except if you run lupicus/some other boss that simply ranging or dodging would be just as effective with.

Alternatively, I believe a better solution would have been adding a potion sickness that accumulates causing you to take mroe damage or do less after+ after a certain amount it disallows you from using any more.

This would allow stacking but not infinitely, and with a drawback.

I don’t think consumables should be useless in this game, just on par with consumables in other games. I do however think they should be fun and interesting to use.

Whispers and ash legion shouldn’t be about learning your class (very few people actually used them because they couldn’t play the game, they would be kicked),

They should be about gaining an opportunity, a small edge but possibly with a drawback.

More options not less: As long as the options don’t negate the need to learn the game, I think we are fine.

Some devs are vehement at removing them or crippling them to not be useful at all.

We already have very little we can do in this game, to be honest. The new dance animations aren’t available permanently on purchase or even from a costume brawl piece.

Making a consumable toolbelt SHOULD: Be fun, be slightly useful.
Making a consumable toolbelt SHOULD NOT: Be entirely cosmetic, useless, replace skill, or be powerful enough to be necessary.

This is the balance that they are incapable of striking thus far. Too much or too little. It is unfortunate for the health of the game. As a game developer, I die inside a bit when I see opportunity lost. This game could have so many sandbox elements so easily in pve and it really wouldn’t effect the overall balance if implemented correctly. Options can complicate things, but it is necessary to take time to give them to the player I feel. A chef takes many sips of their soup before they are certain it is correct. The same dedication should be had by a game developer: we went to school for this after all.

I believe alot of people think skill cannot co-exist with options. What if I told you that you could have both and that it is healthy for the game? Red pill or blue pill, you decide.. haha.

Bring back the weapon swap looping glitch!

in Suggestions

Sahfur.5612

Hello. I would like to say this in a nice manner.

Nothing personal. I have tried to argue for solutions which appease more than one party before but the fact is, there are people out there which do not want others to have fun even if it doesn’t affect them in any way, shape or form.

I believe that people who want things like this fixed when it gave some people fun times, hurt the combat system none.. etc.. They are a detriment to the community as a whole. I wish they would just stop interfering with others or leave. Social behavior might help things.

-Encourage- options.

Fix this bug, Fix that bug.. blah blah. Do you hear yourselves? There is such a thing as an ascended bug and it is prevalent in the gaming industry. Skyrim giants, etc. They exist. The game developers allowed them to stay because they are fun. That shows foresight and intent to provide a fun experience more than a “boring” and robotic experience.

One of the very facets of the ANet philosophy went as follows if I recall:
“Is it fun?”

I don’t mean this hatefully, I just simply want it to be known that I believe a vocal and uptight minority is ruining this game by urging ANet to do things that remove any extra bits of fun that existed. We need more features, not less.

The majority of players who knew about this saw no harm in it and would use these for machinema, screenshots or to just have -fun- in a group spinning. I saw it constantly, just as much as I saw /dance.

If that removes realism from the game: There are already so many unrealistic elements in the game that if that bothers you, you are being very selective with your pet peeves.

In short, this is a good philosophy: Don’t remove fun content until new fun content replaces it with similar abilities.

There should have been a gesture made before this patch that works thusly:

/loop skill#

You equip an offhand axe, you type /loop 5 and you would spin.

Any animation that could be looped before would loop. Any other one would be played and stop (the same as before).

It takes a brave and innovative company to add features like this. I believe ANet should attempt this sort of thing.

This would be a lazy and effective way of adding fun and diversity of action to the game. I AM a coder and I will tell you that it is very easy to implement something like this.

Not only would it be easy, but the time spent factor versus gain would be very nice.
It would alleviate the sting on many players when the rest of the looping is removed.

Why not? I want to issue the challenge to ANet to add these sorts of things.
I believe in you.

Small things add up. Alot.

There aren’t enough gestures. There are no poses for screenshots and machinema.

Warhorn 4 and 5 on warrior have been fixed. Do you have any idea how useful and amusing it was? It never worked in combat. It never worked unless you wanted to stand still with your warhorn up in an interesting pose.

Please do not listen to grouchy players who want things fixed which remove fun while not replacing those fun things. This is backwards progress.
There are also many more important priorities than annoying machinema creators everywhere. There are alot of balance fixes that are necessary. Yes there are different teams working on stuff, but since they know how to mess with animations:

(heres the blaring point)

Why not spend time adding new gestures for everyone to enjoy and allowing us to loop like before instead of removing functionality in an already limited system?
Several OS could also take a hint from this philosophy.

When something is lost, something should be added.
Its simple dynamics.

When a player feels they get less freedom and less fun with each update, its not good for the community.

TLDR;

If you add a gesture: /loop skill#

It would appease everyone, the rest of the animation bugs could be fixed, and no functionality on either side would be lost.
Its.. just rational, naturally.

Thank you for your time.

What does melee do in a dungeon?

in Warrior

Posted by: Sahfur.5612

Sahfur.5612

Melee is cc’ed over and over then dies, unless you are a guardian… d/d ele.. defensive mesmer.. thief.. In those cases you are golden. I’ve seen all of the above use builds in dungeons with more sustain than us through tricks or better healing/defensive boons.
That means warriors description is incorrect.

It should be fixed: Warrior is ok at some things.. well.. sort of.. for a few moments, but it has very high damage.. when you can actually stay alive long enough to axe 1 or hb.
Warrior can also use several clunky or nerfed mechanics such as banners and adrenaline (which never quite grew out of its bwe nerf). Warrior is in fact NOT capable of overcoming condition damage by “soldiering through it”, and must change their build to contain several condition removers just like any other class.
*Warning, this class is not designed for pvp, and has been witnessing continual nerfs in pve to ensure its entirely inferior to guardian, d/d ele, defensive mesmer and thief at everything it does unless you miraculously survive and are able to do 1hb and axe 1 continually in which case you are marginally better overall at damage yet still have no support.

Bonus points if the description includes information about what a massive percentage of warriors used to be rangers (gave up) but are now rerolling guardian. I think thats an interesting factoid.

I think that description is fair and horrifically accurate.

Ugh…

Anyway, user satisfaction should be held in higher regard. Negative advertising is never a good thing, and it could feasibly happen any second. There are people out there with desk “jobs” which effectively control entire regions of computers with no managerial interference and who have plenty of time to play this game so have plenty of time to do other things. They are usually friends with the person who controls the next region over and so on. I’m sure they have to do something when they are bored. Plus, you know.. making the game fun for every class and balancing them is a nice thing to do.

So yes, either roll a guardian if you like g/s.. or go to an mmo that understands ranged/melee balance.

At least three of the dailies after the patch required you to specifically avoid Orr. It seems the devs want to force people to play in the rest of the world rather than farm a place only level 80s can go. Given they’ve explicitly said this, and they’ve increased the drops in other areas, I don’t know why this would be surprising.

Then they need to fix there horribly broken downleveling system.

If killing a lvl 80 risen in orr can drop me a T6 mat and killing a lvl 10 undead in ashford plains which is just as hard due to downleveling drops a T1 mat you are NEVER going to draw players from the high end zones. No one in there right mind is going to go through the same effort for T1 mats as T6 mats.

I would actually call it pure insanity to expect people to do this.

Fix drops for downleveled areas and maybe but not with the current broken system

Pretty much this… yeah. I agree Rifter. They said they increased drops but it was almost certainly by like a hundredth of a percentage point just so they could say they increased drops so they could distract the playerbase from their downleveling being harsher, wasting the time they spent gaining power, and nerfing warriors harder because warriors rely on raw stats.

So yeah, its a problem when a guy who has killed a dragon has difficulty killing a glow worm in a lvl 2 area and then doesn’t even get mats that could cover the potential repair cost if they farm an hour. Maybe if they made tp and armor repair cost based on the area you are in it would encourage us to leave.

I mean why watch other people play the game, when YOU can play the game… honestly…

The channel sounds like paintdry.tv, grassgrow.tv, or snookie.tv….
I don’t care to watch that kitten.

It’s the most popular game streaming website in the world.
There are no other good sites. Youtube isn’t made for gamestreams.

Guild Wars 2: 130 viewers

I never heard of it… yawn.

Arenanet streams on it… i guesse you don’t know much then.

Ok, chuckles…

Your logic is that GW2 isn’t popular because your 3rd rate tv channel doesn’t have views on it…

No viable warrior builds now, thats a pretty big nerf. No serious ones anyway. Sorry if that insults anyone but thats how it is.

My community 30 something members and another community we know 50 members just quit. A few of them went to TERA because you can still get benefits from buying the boxed stuff.. but I wish gw2 hadn’t failed.

And yeah, it pretty much did. Sorry, but its easy to predict the future.. you don’t have to be a psychic. All you have to do is look at the patch notes and the overall lack of real progress in the game. Things just get less fun, not moreso.

Graph it all in your mind, its a downward trend overall. There are a few shinies that distract the weak minded but other than that the patches have been trash and actually made things worse.

Hey, there will be other games. /shrug. We can always divert money that was going to be used for gems toward new games we throw away after a month.. at least its fun!

Burst Damage: A waste of my trait points

Sorry but I hate the revive traits being forced on me as well. It would be ok to pick them but if I wanted these things I’d get mercy gear and roll a support class. I don’t like to plan (and waste resources on) for the worst case scenario, I like to ensure it doesn’t happen in the first place.

The minor traits should be less specialized and it could just allow us to pick them.

Really, minor traits should have options in the first place, maybe 2 or 3.
If I will anticipate people going down, I will use the elite banner instead of the signet (and then switch back immediately because the signet helps me tank thus avoiding others dying in the first place).

Get your crit chance (not too high, you have fury..), power (don’t need much, you have gs might trait), crit damage, toughness up..

Then use precision enhancer consumable(based on toughness) + Omnomberry pie/ghost.

In addition, use all tick heals, use percentage traited damage enhancers in traits (more cost effective than power or toughness, no real percentage based increases). \o/ The power of percentages. Use dual knights axe/warhorn or axe/axe with sigil of blood on crit (60% chance heal on crit) or greatsword with same sigil. You can nullify alot of damage using whirling or dodging or sword/mace (bad damage but can nullify all attacks). Axe attacks very often so you will literally outheal the damage with proc sigil + food crit + 15 defense tick + regen signet (or a regular heal, but remember signets increase your food healing via crit chance).

Carry -alot- of weapons for every situation. Carry skale venom + other dungeon consumables such as healing seed turret.

You can now face tank two veteran karka egg layers or solo orrian champion giants.

I do it with that build.. and I’d be happy to tell you it if people show interest.

Remember though, to heal with this, you have to keep swinging your sword! Over and over. Not a problem? Its called sustainable damage. I can still do 20k hundred blades if I time things correctly. My build can switch or mix knights/berserkers to be as tanky or GC as I want.

Vitality just doesn’t provide longevity for this sort of build. Toughness does. Critical healing does.
Percentage damage traits are advantageous because it frees up your statistics for toughness/precision(not too much, you have natural traiting and fury for this), crit damage. Might gives you power. You can weigh stats against each other to realize certain pieces give a better cost/benefit of crit damage versus toughness.

The one weakness to my build would be knockdowns. This can be eliminated by ensuring I have the enemy on the ground more than I am. I am vampiric. I regenerate by attacking, if I go down I may dash to a mob and burst it to stay up. Traited vengeance will save you when you have toughness. It is also in an advantageous tree for critical damage and precision.

Edit:
I didn’t mention this but you can also go shout heals + damage based on boons can be advantageous with a guardian or boon giving team. This allows you to heal even more and be more of a wall while also doing nice sustainable damage. The healing of (probably 2) shouts and inevitably shake it off as a stun breaker will help shift odds in your favor.

Forceful Greatsword for 1h sword.

in Warrior

Posted by: Sahfur.5612

Sahfur.5612

I agree, it should apply to sword to make it more viable.

Sword uses condition damage, might does too.

It would provide a reason to stick up close with the sword and also allow us to back up and let our conditions tick while losing stacks of might. I’d say since sword is much slower it should gain two stacks of might per attack.

Sword is vastly underpowered compared to the other choices at the moment. It is not balanced with the abilities in the rest of the game: It is incongruent with the other weapons.

The other popular choices are viable because they allow competitive gameplay. Really, when your opponents can stealth and do massive AOE damage and all kinds of other tricks, warrior has stats. We have our direct damage and our direct defense. We don’t have much more comparatively.. so we end up using the same weapons because they are the only ones that are -ok- at countering the other classes or situations.

Swords gameplay to me has always -wanted- to be run in, do damage and get bleeds, but stay swift enough to have the option to back off and charge back in. This -could- have made it versatile.

I’ve been talking about how sword needs to be brought up to the level of the other weapons a long time.
Sword has very few competitive builds. Forceful greatsword should apply to swords.
Axes do -not- need this ability though because they are already competitive as it is.
Axes and sword could mix better (via weapon switching) if this change was added, thus expanding the array of builds that are competitive between both weapons.

Alot of people would start caring about offhand where they previously did not.

Sword could become a viable pvp and pve choice with forceful greatsword. Yes, you could immobilize your opponent and perform hundred blades, or stack swiftness and use axe..

Or you could use the closer on sword for what its supposedly meant for.. gain the ability to do more damage when up close or back off.

See why it adds a gameplay mechanic to swords in theory?

If there has to be grind in this game, they should at least let us get rewards for our grinding without DR. We HAVE to grind in some method to get the gold required to do alot of end game stuff.

1. DR makes grinding high level stuff harder.
2. price goes up due to dr, making more grinding necessary.
3. they make the grind already difficult to begin with without DR.

It all adds up to an insurmountable wall that chips away at your sanity.

Traited stats nerfed via downscaling

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Sahfur.5612

Sahfur.5612

Hello,

I would like to cite an example of how the new scaling system is horrid.

If a level 71 player in fireheart rise in the area I am in has traited 20 points into discipline on warrior, thus getting 20% increased critical damage.. they get the 20% increased critical damage.

I, a level 80 player in full exotics go back to this place, and in my knights gear (which does not use berserker stuff so no additional crit damage modifier)…

I have 19% critical damage bonus..

Yes, thats right, I am essentially weaker than a level 71 because of this shoddy scaling and it needs to be rolled back to how it was where it rewarded the player for grinding out higher level equipment. Grinding it out is already difficult enough considering ANet nerfs any ability to fund its purchase within the game at every turn. Grinding it out and then not getting any tangible benefit and indeed being made weaker than lower level players is unacceptable.

I said it before and I will say it again, the new downscaling is the worst coded balancing I have seen in any game ever and I have seen alot of games and worked on balancing a few myself.

Get rid of it.

I walk a little bit down the road in fireheart rise? I get 17% critical damage modifier. A level 71 player would get 20%. I am being arbitrarily nerfed by the new system.

- and so are you!

This is a trait bonus. It should be a solid truth no matter where I am. The mere fact that this stuff is nerfing traits of level 80’s and not nerfing level 71’s arbitrarily should be evidence enough that the new system is a malignant virus that should be exterminated. It was fine before the patch.

Exterminated.

Deal with it.

It shouldn’t have been done in the first place. The fact that it was done horribly only strengthens the argument that the old scaling should have stayed. Its just bad, no defending it.

Traited stats should -never- be nerfed by scaling. Do you nerf the ability of support classes which trait skills and abilities to perform their ability? They can still do it as normal. This is unfair, unwise and in fact unjustified. The mere fact that there is a tradeoff in utility and stats amongst some classes makes this kind of a system by default imbalanced and lopsided.

In other words, the content such as events can be scaled up when lvl 80 players or zergs are present. The player should not be arbitrarily scaled down especially when such build variety exists between statistics and support (which you can’t scale unless you take away their ability to do things).

For those who don’t believe me, yes.. you are in fact way less powerful than you were at 71 if you go back at 80 in exotics. This is why there should be a new level of bad for defining things like this aspect of the patch: Mega-ultra-bad.

Darwin would agree with me but he is currently busy hanging his head in shame because this downscaling patch has in fact proved that the fittest do not survive, because this patches math is unfit.

Sahfur.5612

Yet another reason that personal incentive to level should stay. You can’t implement balancing correctly no matter how you try it because of how builds work.

Certain classes have more utility and certain classes work based on their attributes.

In other words, if you aren’t a mage, downscaling nerfs you far more because it gets rid of your statistics if you built for them whilst the mage keeps all of their utility which is alot of the reason to play that class.

Unless you brilliant programmers decide to make us all play the same classes, this “balancing” will always ruin at least 50% of all builds and 50% of all classes more than the other 50%.

Its science.

For example, -banner- warrior (one of the less statistical builds) even has statistical roots for the most part. No matter how warrior sees it, they are a statistical class because the creators provided us mostly statistical builds.

Nerf the statistics, nerf most of the builds but not all: Create more imbalance.

It -is- written in stone. Its the reason why the old scaling system worked better. There is no argument against it because it is as immovable and true as the fact that an ant can’t grow up to be a bird. It is law within the dynamics of the systems in the game and that law cannot be changed without ripping apart the game and eliminating all difference in classes and builds.

Revert the changes, allow your players to flourish. They will feel the need to play again because they will feel that not only can they explore the world (which is fine) but they have a reason to do so.

At the very least, if you institute such a hard cap, you should let the excess points in some statisics flow over into toughness and/or vitality to ensure that lvl 80 players don’t get ganked completely if they went glass cannon build and thus all their points in everything are now -gone- because of the overzealous power capping. The old dynamic scaling was better though.

downscaling not working

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Sahfur.5612

I have no problem with bosses getting stronger based on player amount and player skill/gear. This was advertised repeatedly and is a very nice thing.

Upscaling of events – Fantastic. I like to see things stay difficult and like to see events work well.

Downscaling of the player further than we already are is my problem.

Events should stay challenging, especially bosses.

It comes down to letting the player feel they have been rewarded at least slightly for their effort while still keeping things challenging and making sure you don’t -need- a zerg for most things. I like the thought that skill can overcome zergs.

However, personal downscaling being tougher than it is would cause an increased incentive to create zergs. Currently, things get more difficult in higher level zones. thats how it should be because the rewards are greater and the rewards should stay greater. The drop rate of lvl 80 stuff in low level zones encourages people to explore them. If the event is scaled up properly (rather than player scaled down), then we won’t be 1 shotting mobs or stealing kills.

Zergs are not the equivalent of teams, they are blindly hacking away and simply overpower the events by using numbers.

In other words, yes.. it makes more sense to fix the problem at the source (events scaling) rather than put a bandaid on it (nerfing people who put hard work into the game).

There are two ways to solve the issue and events are the place to do it.

Several things recently introduced already provided incentive to zerg, and we see them constantly now. I knew this would happen, and due to the way it has been done the events provide -less- of a challenge. Its elementary: Edit the player: Zerg up. Edit the event: Zerg down.

Grind Wars 2: The lack of transparency chronicles.

Remember, it has no grind! Level 80 full exotic players should be poor and it should take months and months to buy any top tier item in the game. There should be gating on the alternate methods to make sure we can’t do that too fast regardless of how much effort we put into it too.

That was in their mission statement, remember? Oh wait thats incorrect? They advertised something different? Oops.

I was going to leave yesterday, but the drop rate in Orr was increased to an acceptable level.
Now its been nerfed harder than before!

Thats FANTASTIC.

So,
1. Grinding in lower level areas takes longer because of dynamic scaling adjustment.
2. Grinding in Orr takes longer because the drops are nerfed harder than before.
3. Grinding in dungeons and fractals takes longer due to the costs and the fact they nerfed some of the paths that were nice.
4. Grinding chests from bosses and such takes as long as it always did, forever. Not surprising considering the chests always had horrible drops.

limitless weapon spinning bug

Bethesda left the giant bug in skyrim. Leave the animation bug in gw2.

It would show that ANet can have fun and leave things in that are fun.
There is NO advantage to be gained from using this and its difficult to learn.
There was -already- a patch that made it harder to do.

Wvw and pvp have no effect at all on this due to once you get hit or in combat it resets -anyway-.

There is no legitimate reason to fix this bug and basically any game dev amongst the best wouldn’t. Work on other things.

Making a new thread would have just made new clutter and they already knew about this if they watch -any- of the major gw2 youtubers. They all support this bug and say its fun. Not talking about it wasn’t going to keep it from being fixed.

Having a discussion with ANet on how to implement it so that we can do it in a more acceptable manner and -leave it in the game- will keep it from being fixed.

There has already been one patch that makes it very difficult to do and only possible to do on purpose, while standing around concentrating.

Alexandra, I propose instead of removal, a command which works as follows:

/loop #

The # would be the number on your skill bar corresponding with the loop you want to activate. It would work with costume brawl skills utility skills and elites (just like the current one), and allow movement during the loop. The loop would be broken with the same methods it currently is. Gestures already do not work whilst in combat.

This is a cheap, easy solution of giving us more gestures and giving us more opportunity for machinema for years to come, rather than weeks. Don’t want to add more gestures? Fine. This would add them for you. The coding should be trivial (I have worked on games like this before, the feature set outweighs the programming time).

Machinema and nice methods of making screenshots are nice tools for a games player base and tend to lend themselves to nice things. Don’t remove the bug until the above gesture or another workaround is implemented, please.

Using this platform for its fix could leave it in the game, make it a feature, please many players and machinema creators.. and make the ability more accessible to the rest of the player base. It has NO downsides, and requires almost no effort. I would like the player to gain options rather than lose them.

So, who else agrees with this implementation?
