necro has way to much sustain. Both my thief and ranger(both valk builds) have high burst and decent sustain. Neither can blow though a valk/soliders nerco and even if we get them low they just reset like an ele would.
It literally feels like playing against the current d/d ele.
The incoming damage feel fine to play agaisnt tho. I feel that is something they got right for sure.
And then they say stereotypes arent true and you should be nice to poeple on forums
Well if you can’t tunnel vision a necro I to the ground with out thinking about it then the universe is out of kilter. Didn’t you know that?

To everyone else saying Reapers are too tanky: Perhaps, then, you might consider that the “focus the Necro first” strategy might need to be rethought when the Necro is a Reaper? It could do you wonders.
how about we just change reapers instead of changing everyone’s strategy in regards to necros ?
Because “focus the necro” was In place due to the fact that we have to fave tank everything. Now we have o e trait that let’s team mates support us we’ll in shroud so ignoring everyone else to focus the easy target down doesn’t work now. That how games change, you either adapt or cry on the forums. Looks like some people made the forums choice.,
When people say l2p, it means learn to play not learn to post.
You just exactly nailed the problem. The issue is that you CANNOT focus the necromancer, he can go full glass and destroy everyone thanks to the constant supply of boons.
So focus the bunker? HAHAHAHA.
You guys obviously have low MMR, I’m seeing this strategy popping up more than it should, 2 ele’s or bunker guards and 2-3 reaper necromancers just roaming. Waltzing in doing tons of damage and unable to do anything about it. Rotating against it is a complete nightmare because if you don’t burst the bunker before necro’s roam in it’s GG.
Not to mention you can charge your shroud OUTSIDE of combat. Nothing puts you in a worse mood when starting the first teamfight and the necromancers start with ~70% of their shroud.
So a five man team can capture a point? The reapers could have been soldier amulet and bunkers themselves and still 5 people would put out enough damage to capture a single point.
Blighters boon also let’s us build LF after the match starts if people use skills that give us boons, it’s not free.
But what else should necros expect after three years of almost no rep in high end spvp of course people don’t want to learn to deal with a necro that has the attrition the class was supposed to have.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
The reaper is proving too tanky in match after match. In this regard there’s another thread that suggests why. Unrelenting Assault is my current rug burn.
The biggest issue is there is no internal cooldown on any of those traits.
Get a cele ele or bunker guardian with a reaper and you pretty much have an invincible necromancer.
- Cold Shoulder: Chill lasts longer, and chilled foes deal less damage to you.
With a Tempest providing protection and frost aura, you got yourself a 53% damage reduction.
Yeah… A bit extreme damage reduction and chill duration don’t you think? In my opinion it should be:
Cold Shoulder: When you enter Reapers Shroud gain a Frost Aura for 1 second plus an additional second for each condition on you (max 5 seconds).
- Blighter’s Boon: Gain life force when you gain a boon. If you are in reaper’s shroud, gain health instead.
Once again, give it a kitten internal cooldown! 1 second should be PLENTY for this trait.
Blighters boon is a grandmaster trait on a class with low boon generation. That can’t use 6-10 skills well in shroud. Not that big a deal. Your compaint is that it works well when getting support from people with support specs.
So when what ever class you play is getting support its balance but when a necro gets it, nerf time?
What people forget is Reaper is still a necro so not matter how the fight is going we just have to stand there and take it. We still can’t run from a fight or go immune to damage in any way, chill does not effect move abilities you can still just leave the fight.

Really the zerker meta is in place because the faster stuff dies the less you need to deal with it’s mechanics, most of them big one shot deals.
So active defense and burn it down is the name of the game since toughness doesn’t absorb enough damage to stop a one shot.
It would really need to be more but smaller hits and other mechanic changes to make other gear sets viable.
As for the soft trinity the reason it never really works is because you can bring support and control and still not give up much dps on most of the classes.
All anyone can do is hope that the raid devs see what happened in current pve and change mechanics to counter it.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Honestly OP I don’t think anyone has had a problem with unique stuff dropping from raids, skins, titles, minis, decorations what ever, it’s the fact that what can arguably be considered the best armor in the game is ,as of right now, only being dropped in raids. People are asking if it will have an alternative means to acquiring the armor with a different skin or whatever.

One guy in a team of ten needs the requisite Mastery. Doesn’t mean the other nine do. Note the use of the word ‘probably’ in that snippet – if everyone in this forum is as inhumanly hardcore as they claim to be, then they’ll find a way to get by without the mastery.
People are supposed to fail and wipe on these things. That’s three quarters of the point of the groin-shatteringly ultrabrutal content people have been clamoring for, isn’kitten
Yeah for now, then when most of those super hardcore players can’t complete it with in the first week you’ll have the forums full of people saying. “I know I’m good and if I can’t do it, it must be too hard pls nerf”

Don’t worry to much with in a month some place will have a guide for what classes, builds, and weapons you “need” to use for each raid encounter. Then your only be a noob if you didn’t watch the video and read the guide. Because that how games should be played.

Your first full clear will take as longer as needed. After that a good clear with people who kinda know the raid should be around 2 hours, a clear with everyone having done it multiple times and your dragging the new guy along. Most likely an hour.

Over the many years I have been playing mmos and raiding I find the people who demand the most from others are the heaviest back packs. They also tend to point fingers first and constantly look for a “better” raid group . Just a personal observation.
That’s why I’m in a guild with people I like who have experience with group content.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
There is PVP coming in HoT, Stronghold, though something tells me if someone wants to play a MOBA they’ll be looking elsewhere.
Their love of PVP certainly has me concerned. Yes you see a variation of gear usages in PVP, but the entire play style is not something I enjoy at all. Colin’s comments about PVP while discussing raids worries me. PVP plays a whole lot different than most PVE. I want a harder version of the PVE we have not a completely different style that I won’t find fun.
I thunk his comment has more to do with things like cleansing, boon coruption, and all the other things that are used way more in pvp then in current pve. Can’t hurt to make more skills and abilities needed in pve
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
PvP seems to eat most of their time and that is the most useless game mode. It also eats up huge amounts of money for no reason.
If you really want to free up dev time and money encourage them to get rid of PvP.
“I don’t like this part of the game, therefore it’s useless. Scrap their mode and spend more resources on what I want”.
Classy.
/hyperbole
guess I need to tag these things.
Though objectively PvP uses significantly more money with significantly less returns.
Their “world-wide” tournaments gave away over $100,000 and drew less than 20,000 viewers I believe.
Most of their current revenue stream is from selling HoT, which contains no PvP content and is entirely funded by PvE players.
It just makes sense that they should focus on the parts of the game that are drawing players in. When was the last time you heard someone praise GW2 for its “awesome and varied PvP with great balance”?
Probably never. GW2 is praised for its beautiful world, fast PvE content, awesome story, and never increasing level cap.
Strongholds? New Wvw maps? Both being released with HoT. Also most tourney money is covered by sponsors. Also neither you nor I know how much money is spent is the shop by pvp players, I do know I spend the bulk of my time in pvp when solo or wvw with Guild and I have spent more money then I like to think about on this game.
I would guess that most playeRS are more like me, they have stuff they prefer (for me pvp and wvw) yet they still do a bit of everything.
I still see what the ops concern is, it’s the chance that they dev team becomes hyper focused on raid content because some people can burn thru the content super fast and become super vocal abouy wanting more. It’s like feeding the plant from little shop of horrors.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
And yes having the ability to change stats at will makes this the best armor.
It really won’t since it won’t change runes.
The best way to change stats is multi sets of cheap exotic gear.
As has been pointed out multiple times in this thread.
Also it will be just as good as ascended armor, even if it can change stats those stats are the same as ascended, not better. It may be more convenient armor, but it will not be better.
The legendary armor set will be like having multiple set of ascended. BONUS if a new stat combo comes out your covered. Also you can get a rune set that covers multiply builds (travel, strength, soldier, etc)
You can argue it but I think the majority of people, even thous arguing will still view this as the best armor set.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Wow this thread reads just like I thought it would when it comes to raiding.
Demand/ask/beg for hard group instances since it’s “my favorite thing to do”
Then comes “my favorite thing is the hardest thing I game and we should have the bestest gears from it”
Las comes the never ending circles of “can we get alternative ways to get said gear” vs “my favorite thing is the hardest thing and should be the only way to get it” vs “if it’s your favorite thing why do you also need to get the best rewards? Shouldn’t playing your favorite thing be enough”
I happen to be one of the people that thinks in this game it would be optimal to have multiple was to acquire legendary armor. If not then you are pigeon holing everyone into raiding to acquire the best armor in the game. And yes having the ability to change stats at will makes this the best armor.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Yeah I think Valkyrie is better, getting Toughness means all PVE mob will aggro you. If you want to tank for the group sure go ahead but live I run power Necro with Valkyries and I hit the crap of the mobs none of them Aggro to me but goes to Zerker Guardians/Warriors
But for PVP you should definitely got for Power/Toughness/Ferocity but I am not sure GS will function in PVP.
Unfortunately, Valk’s is Power/vitality/ferocity. There doesn’t seem to be a Power/toughness/ferocity set.
I’m hoping for a Power/Condi/Ferocity armor to come out. We can make better use of it than most classes thanks to all of our Crit enhancing traits and Power/Condi that comes from GS2, RS1 + Dhuumfire, and RS4. I’m holding off on making Ascended armor for the slight sliver of hope we get this.
Oh man that would be the absolute best. We’d have pretty beastly damage with that set, actually.
Cavalier gear is pow/tough/ferocity. I mix it Cav armor and zerk trinkets. You will hit 2600 armor and have a base 25% critical so with death perception and decimate defense you can easily hit 100% critical even if some of your vuln drops off and still have A decent critical chace out side of reaper shroud.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
So raids, best armor in game will drop in raids, can change stats on armor at will. So either people will do the raid and get the gear the complain nothing drops from raids and no reason to do them OR the peices will be split so only 1-2 legendary peices drop per raid at a low drop rate to keep people doing them and we will see people complain that the rewards are low for the time invest and difficulty.
I don’t see how raids can ever pay off and not be a giant butch fest, either to hard and to exclusive or hard but doable by a good precent of people and the top players complain to easy and low skilled players complain its to hard.
I will raid, since i like wvw and the armor is to good to pass up. I just don’t see how its going to be this awesome thing people are making it out to be.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Well my favorite dungeon ever was darkness falls from DaoC. But I have a feeling that most people don’t want pvp during a boss fight any more. Man that was fun, taking enough control to open the dungeon, getting to the boss fights, seeing that a different realm grab control and then boom fights!!
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
I could see raids dropping ascended level gear.
Unfortunately I could also see raids dropping unique stat sets like POW, prec, tough or POW,tough, ferocity.
But time will tell. I just hope raids become a part of the game and not the whole game, I have seen to many mmos over the years where raids become the soul focus of the game and just suck up all the development time and become the primary focus of class balance.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
I so find it funny that chill is supposed to be reapers thing and it seems like all the other classes are getting ways to ignore it.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
No problem with bade game going f2p it has already been as cheap as 10$ so what ever.
Now as for raids, it was going to happen. Challenging group content that is instanced so you can balance it is a raid no matter how you set it up. Now that said, if the start a gear treadmill with raids then I will be kittened. Fancy tittle, fancy skins, what ever. Just no gear driven power creap.
The beat part is going to be the forums and the constant complaining that it’s either too hard or too easy and blah blah blah lack of rewards blah blah blah dungeons not being released fast enough, blah blah blah and all the other standerd complaining that comes with raids.

The zerker looks to be the most well iterated elite, it may need to have somethings tuned down. Need to see next bwe.

I think some of the posters in this thread need to take off the training wheels and start playing without vital persistence.
It’s doable.
I never used soul reaping in a build. Yet when I was testing the Reaper I found that the LF decay was really fast and I had to use vital persistence to stay in reaper shroud for any amount of time. I even pointed it out in my feed back that I think the defense may be bugged. Next BWE I will run a test with out vital persistence and time how long it takes to decay a full lf bar as reaper vs death shroud. If someone who does videos could do the same it would be awesome.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Seeing how reaper dps is lower than dagger spam, and you lose the only group utility in the blood magic we have. As of the iteration of the reaper I played in BWE 1, it is just plain awful.
I am unsure if the buff will be enough to justify enough reason to go reaper and untrait from the only group utility we have.
What are you talking about? Shroud skill 4 still heals when you use it. I was healing my buddy for 3-4 k.

It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
We can wait and see, but i said it first, GS 1v1 viabillity goes against their current design philosofy, thus a liablility in 99% of the pvp encounters.
I was one of the people who pointed out damage was an issue in GS. The damage buff is a welcome change and I beleave makes the weapon viable in pvp.
The GS has good utility. Chill on auto, spike damage and whirl on gs2, LF and vuln stacking (plus a decent amount of life with a siphon build) on gs3, blind field and decent damage on gs4 blind is good for stomp interupt or on a downed target, pull on gs5 with a chill now so shorter range but I don’t give up a utility slot and since it’s an aoe pull also helps with stomp interupting.
I want to see where the damage is at come next beta like everyone else but I beleave the GS holds it’s own in the utility side of our weapons.

It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
I don’t agree with this at all. If you complete harder content you should get better stuff, end of story.
Better looking stuff maybe, I don’t want even more tiers of gear added to the game.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
I do wonder what will happen to dagger now, especially in pve. GS now weighs up.
Dagger will still synergies with blood traits better, will still have less damage lose due to movement, still have better LF generation and still let’s you off hand warhorn. Dagger still has it’s place.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Also want to add that alot of ppl complained about cast-times and the slow feel of GS, and those remain the same… keep that in mind for next BWE cause here it seems most of u now are fine with that. Basicly opposite of what I read all week…
Well most posts I read said the damage wasn’t there for the long cast time, so with damage needed to be upped OR cast had to be adjusted. They adjusted damage, I’m ok with that.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Thank you for listening, as a long time Necro player this is a breath of fresh air.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
i only played reaper for about an hour, and i could face tank 6 vet spiders. i dont’ think my guard or revenant could have done this without a lot of work, dodging, running away, returning etc. i think i only dodged like once, and i screwed up the skills alot cause i dont’ know much about necro, basically button mashing
Let’s balance classes around pve when mobs start dodging, using active defense, clear conditions, side step attacks and kite.
The Reaper has issues that need to be addressed but solo pve is not an issue for reapers nor any other class.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
I looked over the post, sums it up pretty much on the dot. Honestly, I’ve mentioned this before. I’m completely alright with slow animations, If that’s the theme they want that’s fine, however the abilities have to match up with HIGH damage payoff
you shouldn’t be fine with slow attack speed even if the dmg is high. which is not high. all GS classes do more dmg than Reaper GS and none has slow attack speed. hammer Warrior does autoattack chain in 1.7s, while Reaper in 3s, and hammer Warrior does more dmg. the slow attack speed has nothing to do with theme etc bs. they simple don’t want Reaper to be very good in offensive role, so they say “it’s the theme” as excuse. don’t bait. seriously. the slow attack speed on GS is unacceptable. GS cast times(not all) have to be decreased by 40-60% so that they’re equal to the other GS classes. this is an absolute needed change. it may sound overboard, but it’s the truth. after playing Reaper i’ll stick to staff as 2nd weapon. GS is very disappointing. if it gets tweaked and it’s good, i’ll use it. in the state it’s now, i won’t
Yeah I’m ok with the slow attack speeds, yet I want my target to have an o kitten moment when I land the attack. I’d you don’t use active defense vs us your in trouble. Slow swing big damage.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
For what it’s worth, a lot of comments in that article are fairly accurate. Namely: The Greatsword doesn’t do enough damage to justify its long cast times and relative lack of stability. Exact same deal with the Shouts. And the reach/range on a lot of Greatsword and Reaper Shroud skills could be bumped up a bit.
However, and this is the problem with a ‘prominent’ website publishing an article to act as pointed feedback, that guy’s build sucks. His trait choices are bad and lacking in synergy. By his own (clueless and ill-guided) “suggestions” he demonstrates that he doesn’t even know how Decimate Defenses actually works, but he lists ideas of how to “fix” it, even if his ideas being implemented would actually severely reduce the effectiveness of the trait.
TenTon guy took a metabattle build for live and Dagger+WH/Staff, ripped out one of the trait lines, dropped Reaper in, presumably replaced one of the weapons with Greatsword, changed nothing else, and ignored a lot of synergy opportunities within Reaper and with other trait lines he kept. He appeared to go for a Power/Condi mix (given his obsession with chill and chill damage) which is usually a no-no, but even then didn’t connect all the proper dots to make a chill-focused build.
Yes, Reaper needs some love in the math department, and maybe a little bit in the mechanics department (GS and Shouts need to hit like trucks if they’re going to remain that slow, and/or need to have a lot of built-in stability) but I’ve seen that bloody TTH article linked in multiple threads here, and on Reddit, and it needs to stop. While he makes a lot of valid points, they’re a little undercut by the fact that he really doesn’t know what he’s doing, given his bad build and ability to babble about fixing a trait he doesn’t understand. If 95% of what you say is factual, but 5% is demonstrably flawed, people are only going to remember the 5% and use that to discredit the 95%, no matter how legitimate it may be.
The problems he stated are general issues good build or not. Really right now most of the “good” necros on youtube and what not are all running the same three trait lines. Even after testing several builds even I came to the same conclusion. If your going reaper you need spite you want the vuln and you want the might and you want close to death. If you ate running reaper and you want to use reapers shroud (duh) you need to run soul reaping to buff your shroud because it decays to fast with out it.
If anything the fact that your really only run the same trait lines no matter what you want power or condi, tanky or burst is a problem too.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
GS should out dps dagger in a situation where I the player never have to interupt an attack to dodge, never have an attack dodged, blocked, evaded, get blinded, etc, etc.
Yet we all know that that will never happen, so yes in a situation we would never find ourselves in due to the way combat in this game works and the speed of GS attacks. GS should should out dps dagger.
So now to even get close to that GS damage just needs to be increased to make the pay out worth the effort of landing slow attacks in a very active combat system.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Blighters boon was a good trait and worked really well when I was running in spvp with my buddies boon share ele. It was the first time he could actually heal me well I was in shroud.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
@Bhawb the reason I would.like the third hit in the GS AA to be chillblains (damage+chill+posion) is all about synergy and opening build options, it being a mark goes with the trait to make marks give life force and unblock able so you get lf from AA if you trait for it, and you cold take putrid defense since you would have good access to posion.
Also think reaper minor three needs to just be a damage reduction when using a gs. No reason to have it tied to chill like it is. We need the damage reduction in melee anyways.
Well let’s just hope the devs are listening since the problems people point out are consistent across all forums and articles I have read, GS damage to low for the speed, RS seems to drain really fast, Shouts lack luster and not even on par with tempest.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Well at least getting attention on the reapers flaws on tth may help, yet it reads much like the review that was done on base necro also so…
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
So thinking about it, chillblains on GS 1 as 8s may be a bit much, maybe a lesser version of it but still considered a mark.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
I only found the archers to be a bit much, full knight gear and being spam shot for 2k a pop was excessive. Also this poison explosion thing that critical me for 14k we’ll I was in valk gear (no tough)
Could be that I Play necro so I lack the active defenses other classes have so outside of Dodge no way to avoid those big hits.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
So instead of starting my own thread I thought I would throw some ideas in here.
GS 1 (aa) the final attack of this chain should cast chillblains. This does a bit of damage and also chills and poisons thus allowing synergy with traits that work with marks and also the new trait that lowers damage from poisoned foes.
GS 2 needs to go back to a full reset on targets below 50% health and the attack speed needs to be uped a tad.
I actually didn’t have issues with GS 3,4,5.
Reaper shroud is good but it did feel like it would decay faster than normal shroud and it feels like soul reaping becomes mandatory line to make reaper shroud work.
I feel that shouts need to be balanced around three targets. Three being optimal, less then three iffy to use, above three would be a gain and feel powerful. This would also apply to augery of death.
Chilling nova needs a lower icd or an icd per target.
As for traits in reaping line. Minor one should also give us a damage bonus vs chilled targets. Minor three the damage reduction should be changed to “when using a great sword”. The reason being I feel minor one does not add to the power of the spec unlike minors in the base necro and the damage reduction on minor three is key to US going into melee but is unreliable when coupled to chill.
Anyways that’s all I got right now, sorry for spelling or Grammer errors I’m writing this on my cell well on lunch at work.

Reaper is going to need changes of some sort, right now the only thing you really gain from reaping trait line is reaper shroud. As is GS doesn’t fit the niche it was made for it does not hit hard enough to justify the slow attacks and high risk of using did slow attacks in a group of enemies. Shouts are under tuned also for the most part, you give up to much defense/lf gain from taking them over spectral skills and wells do more damage and if speced heal and give protection.
So far as designed. reaping gets play now for testing but will get looked overy or used very rarely. Well we will see.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
If you do a mix of valk+sin you can drop perception and get dhummfire instead, you will have about a 35% critical rate base and even with no condi damage I had burning ticks for 1k. You do lose some health I think I was at 25k hp but since you use spectral skills to gain RS you should be in RS more often then not.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
The issue with reaper is 2 fold, one GS 1 needs to have it’s full cast time adjusted the cast animations make it take to long, gs 5 needs a 750-900 range.
Second is shouts, right now I have found no real use for them, I tried for 5 hours last might to find a way to make them a better choice then either wells or spectral skills. I just couldnt. Not that they didn’t have a use, I did use them and I like would even use the elite shout if it didn’t have a 2 minute cooldown.
The Reaper is really just reaper shroud so you want to have skills that get you life force and prolong your time in RS. I fewould like the reaper spec needs to go into spite for the synergy and you need to go into soul reaping for the shroud skills
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
