At this point I feel like the could close EoTM and just have people be mercenaries on other realms not in you own tier.
Or randomly asign guild/players a color every week.
Since server is sorta just a name at the point you could set up 9 wvw “servers” when you reach the level to go into wvw you pick one of these servers and that who you fight for moving between servers can be done free but is limited to once a month and only out of the wvw season. This still gives the sense your fighting for a team well condensing the wvw population thus increasing the amount of people per map. This can also be monitored to make sure servers don’t get over stacked because you can always close it to incoming transfers.
All I know is something needs to be done to get more people per map because even on tier 3 na I have run around for over an hour with out seeing the enemy.
Close eotm??? You mean the place where people are actually playing and that doesn’t have population issues? The place where obviously players are having fun? That place should be closed? Really? For real? Is this “real life”?
If anything, they should shut down all BLs at this point instead… Just keep EB for y’all…
EoTM was supposed to be an overflow system, it now is popular because it has people on it. If we had a system that populated regular wvw maps first then yeah I don’t see why not. It was the first iteration on what seems to be coming to wvw anyways if it no longer serves a purpose then it could be closed and we could start having BL rotations between desert, forest and EoTM maps changing at reset.
Or they could close WvW because EotM is superior game mode.
Meh game mode mechanics aside I really don’t like the map that much for eotm. That’s why I said rotating maps

The new system got people to play spvp, this is a good thing. What’s going to happen thou if they will hit a wall when they get to an mmr that gives them a 50/50 rating. Once they are no longer progressing they will go back to silver wastes.
I still think the spvp reward tracks do a better job of making people interested in spvp then leagues do, because even after you hit that wall you can still progress.

The biggest problem with WvW is and has always been the fact that it rewards pvdoor more then pvp. You should gain more progression thru fighting other player then thru anything else in wvw.
Thats not WvW. That glorified sPvP. The notion that PvP should matter more than the reason WvW even exist as a gameplay mode is absolutely ridiculous. PvP in WvW is supposed to come naturally from trying to control and hold objectives, not be artificially inflated by the need to kill things for progression.
Yeah I see people say this all the time. Yet the longest running rvr centerd game (DaoC) tied gaining realm rank to realm points from kills and it worked great.
Keeps gave you a place to flee or stage attacks, when ever a guard was killed it would say how many enemies were near it. Also the more enemy keeps you took the less guards the enemy had at relic keeps.
You said pvp should happen well people do objectives well that’s not what happens, alot of the time it’s big balls of people just avoiding each other and back capping. Objectives that force a fight are also a big part of spvp but work better there since the game are short.

There didn’t need to be a timer
VG could have had a forth where 2 floor panels light up and he starts to summon 2 lighting rings and cast his globes more often.
2nd boss you can just run out of up drafts.
Don’t know the third boss very well but you can just keep ramping things up and have special attacks fire more often.
But the truth is timer aren’t need you have plenty of ways to make the fight ramp up to a wipe with out having a hard timer.

Not that the maps are harder to get around and you can’t red zerg other teams as much it makes even more sense to make the change
What about people who kill farm each other you say? Well you can have diminishing returns on killing the same person with in a set time and make it banable.

I have been tanking as a reaper with a mix of knight and marauder gear. That’s an issue with the people you dealt with, not the class. Yet I see what your saying because it is too easy for people to fall into the x and y class are useless trap.

Meh, what ever your take on grouping is aside. Dungeons are pretty much dead content. At this point making them solo for the story wouldn’t be a problem at all,

Blighters boon could have changed to something like
Your attacks will generate more LF for ever boon you have on you, when in shroud you siphon life scaling with the amount on boons you have on you.
The GS trait could also still siphon on all attacks and make all shroud attacks also siphon.
Since you siphon per hit the more people you hit the more you siphon and the more lf you get, this helps with scaling defense. I don’t know why anet has been so scared of attrition thru siphons for our class.

Telling someone their dps is terrible and they’re bad IS helping them, they’ll do one of two things.
Most will probably just quit GW2 and find something else to do.
The special few will dig deep, make the necessary changes, improve their rotations and become a better player. This the special kind of player everyone would want to have on their team.
Wow that’s a good way to think about it. Of course I hope that those “few” that keep playing have deep pockets and buy everything from the gem store.
Except for buying core game and hot I never spent a dime on this game for gear or gold. I’m a well above average player and I have good DPS.
Yeah, not my point. This game is a business if you make the game toxic to the point that only a few people play then the game folds. Meaning the few people left would have to spend a load of money to keep 8th up and running.

Raids should only have one mode, the hardest possible mode available. If you want easier content, dungeons and fractals are still available to play. Raids are not designed to be inclusive, they are designed to push players to get better. You say you’re a casual and a good player, so if you get with a good group you should be able to beat it. You may fail many times, but when you beat it that will be an incredibly satisfying moment—Those moments are what raids are all about; the catharsis from defeating a seemingly insurmountable foe is incredible. You, too, can enjoy these bosses if you’re willing to put forth the effort and join a group to overcome it.
If they stick with this then they need to sell the raids in the gem store and use the money from that to develop the next raid. That way 99% of players aren’t paying for stuff they aren’t going to be able to do.
I would buy them so I could do them with my guild. I even do raids and other hard contentment I just dislike the attitude that raiding seems to bring out in people.
Scaling content and rewards is not a bad idea and helps people see the content that they paid for.

All in all the nerf only hurts because it was the only way my pvp buddy could heal me well I was in shroud.
I’m still of the opinion that if our job is to just eat damage that we need to be able to be healed in shroud. Ideally we would build LF well mitigating incoming damage as best as we can they go shroud and get our life built back up and just toggle back in forth as needed. On paper this is how we should play with things such as blood magic and blighters boon and the multitude of other siphons we have. The problem is most of them don’t help your life bar enough well in necro mode and only some of them do anything well in shroud.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
If the contents gets systematically nerfed, people will rush through it… and one month from now they will complain they will not have any content to play.
I already dont have any contest to play outside of farming ap. Finished maps, story. What else to do in ls3 50$ bundle?
So you did all the masterieas, unlocked all the vendors, got all the new crafting recipes, all the new armor sets, all the new collections, unlocked every wvw rank, unlocked all the spvp reward tracks, found all the new wondering merchants on old tyria and got all the achievements?
You win the game.

MMO are MULTIPLAYER games, and they are such for a reason. Guild Wars 1 and 2 are also special in that there is much more care put on the Competitive and Cooperative side of things. So yeah, about people complaining being unable soloing everything, why are you even playing an mmo?
There is no mmorpg where the end game content is a cakewalk: what would be the point of it then?
I agree with also everything else you said too.
Multi-player means more then one person playing at the same time. It’s no where in the name says grouping.
Also open world pve is not end game content, dungeons, fractals, raids, masteries, legendary etc, is end game content.
Also lowering the HP needed to unlock my spec did not make the content easier it allowed me to spec the way I wanted to.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Maybe I missed, but most of the posts I saw just asked for the HP request for elite specs to be toned down or even spread out in a way to give you your traits unlocked first and skills and skins later so you could run with your line full traited as long as you had all the HP from the base game.
Now I don’t mind things being harder buy I will say this. It’s a weird balancing act with open world pve. Open world pve is the content for the masses it should be do able by the largest amount of people so it’s hard to keep the highly skilled or the hardcore player happy with it.
The real issue is that the hardcore people are still working on the map and haven’t moved on to the fractals or raid yet.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
What 2 large walls? They lowered the hero point requirement to fully spec your elite line. That’s it. Masteries are the same you still need the unlocks to gather all the hps. Whats this other wall?
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Yes thank you. Stuff
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
It really is only a big change for people who already had base tyria complete. If your on an alt or a new roll that’s still 25 hero challenges you need to do. As time goes by and map population thins out this means people will still have a chance to unlock the spec on the few challenges you can solo. It’s a good change for now and the future.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
I was one of the people who wanted it to change, I like it. Mobs stay hard, masteries stay time consuming, raids will be hard but now I get to do them with my spec the way I wanted it. Also it’s not like they made the remaining hero points easier to get so you still have the challenge of obtaining them.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Dunno but that HE is bull kitten. I made it to the kitten point what makes me not worthy?

Nerf it? Please if anything they still need to go back and balance the shroud decay for reaper it’s way to fast and almost forces you to go into soul reaping.
Right now it spite,sr,reap for power and curses,sr,reap for condi. That leaves 2 other lines you may think about but then you don’t because reaper shroud decays way to fast.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
OP your post was well written and right on point for Masteries. Why you lumped elite specs in there and then lacked any points of why the have to be used as progression and Gated just shows again that it was a poor decision to lock them away.
Outside of that I’m enjoying the expansion and the story has been well done so far.

Why elite spec reqs DON'T need to be changed
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Samhayn.2385
With all of the redundant posts on this forum regarding elite specializations being gated behind a heap of prerequisite hero points, I thought it would be fun to play devil’s advocate. Ultimately, I think the issue isn’t the number of points required to unlock them, but the nature of how difficult the HoT hero challenges are.
Here’s why I believe the hero point requirement should not be changed:
1) You don’t need your elite spec to play through HoT.
2) It’s an elite spec – it shouldn’t be cheap by its nature.
3) It incentivizes map completion and/or WvW participation.
4) You don’t need the entire line unlocked for it to be used (or even useful).
5) Keeping them character bound keeps it in line with non-elite specs. Most of the complaints I’ve seen about the hero point requirements seem to come from our culture of entitlement (I should get it now – or at least sooner – because I want it now).
That all said, I do think there is a HUGE problem with the fact that it’s almost impossible (or in some cases very difficult) to solo the hero challenges in the new zones. If someone is serious about unlocking their elite specialization, they should be able to do it with or without their friends and guildies.
Running around with a partial spec bs these mobs is bad
It wasn’t cheap cost me 60$
Fun should be my incemtive.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Here I’ll make it simply so of us want to experience the new content with our elite spec (as a necro who always meleed reaper is great) not just to get our elite spec.
Others have alts.
As for getting them in wvw. That again is a matter of wanting to do it with a spec not for a spec. I want to enjoy the ride and not feel like I’m driving to the starting line.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
You are all playing an mmo? You realize this right? Just making sure. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
I got my elite specialization right away, play the game for more then an hour and decide its garbage. If you are skimming. Then that is your perogative. If all your playing for is to get an elite spec that you wont even end up using on PvE, then why are you playing.
MMO, massivly multi-player online. So large game with many people playing online.
Where does that say groupig to do one time character advancement?
O wait and some people want to get a spec line to use in WvW and raids but don’t really like open world pve that much shouldn’t be playing?
The expansions been out 3 days and the OP has nearly put in the hours of a full time job. Yeah that’s not really what this game was sold as but what ever.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Don’t gate the raids (hard core content) but gate hero points (everyone content) kitten .
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
The mobs being hard and the map being multi level and needing masteries to navagate is ok. I don’t think most people complain about that.
Having a spec line locked behind 400 hero points and then having hero points gated behind masteries or needing a group to earn is the problem.
It is such a shift from bade tyria to HoT that you will for sure have people complaining about the difficulty. Maybe that will change maybe it won’t but a little for warning about time would have been nice. Better scaling on hero point challenges would be nice too.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
It’s fun when you get to a hero point and there is a kittening frog telling you “nope your not string enough” well I made it to the kittening point how am I not strong enough?

Remember when “A long time” in an MMO was at least 1 year?
Since when did “A long time” become 1 day?
This is just laughable. The instant gratification is the downfall of society.
I you mean back in the day when that was the only type of game made and you knew what you were getting into and it’s was clearly stated from the start?
Remember the expansions that drastically shifted a game and how well that has gone like star wars and trials of Atlantis for daoc?
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Sorry, everyone is just spoiled. You’re use to insta leveling a bunch of toons without any work required. Now that you cant tome or EoTM your way to something, you’re mad.
It’s not even that much work. Once you get all your masteries an reach the hero points you need, it’s pretty much a breeze with the rest of your characters.
Because you have 20+ alts with 3% map completion each, isn’t a reason for anet to lower the required hero points.
I have every hero challenge in the base game unlocked is it really asking for stuff to be handed to me when all I want IS 12 traits to be unlocked in the elite line so I can do the new content with a fully traited reaper?
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Yeah just play with less then have a trait line speced out its like being level 60 again. It nostalgia. (Whatever it was a poor design choice and even some of the most diehard fan boys in my guild don’t like it)
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Don’t let the people who want to whole game given to them at launch hate on you. HoT is awesome and has loads of content and something to work towards whatever that maybe. Some people just want to complain they have to do something for once. Then they want to complain there’s no content for the game.
No one wants the game handed to them, people want to use the elite specs and not run around with half a trait line now filled out well doing the content. At least having the weapon and traits unlock able with original map completion would have been way better then this.
Ps. Some of have been around long enough to have had a ton of skill points we earned in WvW removed from us and then we went back and did the hero point unlocks across the map. So we have already put alot of time in. I don’t think asking to have a weapon unlock and a full trait line (not the skills or other stuff) to do the new content with and unlock the rest of the line well doing it is to much to ask.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
(edited by Samhayn.2385)
They should have front loaded the elite line with weapon and traits first and cheap enough to do with map completion then skills and cosmetics later in the line.
The needing hero points and then gating those behind mysteries that need both xp and points to unlock make it feel like I’m slogging thru. If I could have at least a filled out spec to use well I did everything else it would be much better
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
There is just too much hard AoE CC in this game and it will only get worse because the elite specs and the Revenant have a lot of hard CC in store.
- Revenant/Herald: Hammer #5, Staff #5, Glint elite, axe #5, Jade winds
- Reaper: GS #5, shroud #3 and #5, shout elite
- Dragonhunter: LB #5, Spear of justice(2nd effect will pull enemies in), trap elite
- Chronomancer: Shield #5, well elite(probably one of the most powerful AoE CC’s in the game). You can cast it twice because of the new shatter.
- Scrapper: 2 lightning fields, gyros AoE daze upon destruction.I’m not gonna list everything because it is a waste of time. Just be aware that no amount of stability stacks will save you from the cancer that will arrive next week.
Solution?
- Bring old stability back & decrease its duration to compensate
or
- Reduce CC across the board
Edit: Typo
Coordinated hard CC is the only way a smaller group can take down a larger group in most situations, with out hard CC (and honestly raising aoe cap on attacks) all you do is reinforce the zerg ball meta. Large fights can be fun and safety in numbers is a tactic but for the most part zerg balling is a way to just game the.mechanical limitations.
Edit: of course other things need to be looked at too like toughness not really making a huge difference and the disparity in damage out put vs defense on class by class basis.
Hopefully the new maps just make it harder to run in a giant clump from place to place and splitting into smaller groups say 10-20 people is a useful tactic

Yup, here you admitted it. Your entire threads and subsequent posts are nothing but for your own personal gain. You don’t want to play the game as it is intended to be played. Just the reward. Yep!
You want the same. You’re just in the lucky position that they seem to be offering you what you want without having to ask for it. That does not make you more virtuous for defending the status quo.
Bingo. Too bad that a few posters are so in love with themselves that they simply refuse to see their own ego/shortcomings or the chance that they could actually be wrong.
Bingo that people choose a game that appeals to their sense of fun and achievement when others do not? Is that serious?
Honestly, Anet does not cater to moulding a product to every customers desires. If someone thinks the game doesn’t live up to their standards, you find a different product to play.
People chose this game with stuff like no grind and best gear by 80 being the direction of the game.
Then ascended was added and it was all, it’s a minor upgrade, you don’t really need it, nothing balanced around it blah blah blah. So people like me pop on and off do some wvw and some spvp. Do events but don’t repeat them or fame them for gear and we are ok.
Now we have yet another set of gear being released and content that is being balanced around a set of gear the was not supposed to be and we were told we didn’t really need.
People have the right to complain. What they have been told and what has happened do not coincide.

Some of us just don’t like PvP. (Shrug).
Yeah I know this feeling but I wish it was something that was followed both ways. I really don’t like 90% of the PVE yet seems I keep getting nudged towards it.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
It’s not so much that it’s a grind it’s more that it’s not fun. WvW is fun, spvp is fun, I have had fun raiding in other games even as a mainly pvp player. I have trinkets and I guess I will make a weapon now that I have too but I won’t be making armor it’s not worth it and it drops in the raid.
The thing is people find things to be a grind when they no longer enjoy what they are doing. Being rewarded when doing content you like is great the problem is only certain activities are rewarded meaningful in this game and if you don’t find those activities that reward ascended to be fun then you are SoL.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
The only thing I’m afraid of is with the introduction of raids the game becoming raid centric.
I have seen it before and so have you most likely. Raids get consumed fast, demand for new raids on forums, devs focus on churning out raids. This in turn pushes development of any other content aside and you only see other content released with an expansion. Sadly I could totally see the LF stuff become nothing but window dressing for the next raid wing and pvp, wvw and open world stuff only added too during a paid expansion.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Reaper has way, way, way, to high of dps to be as tanky as they are. Hands down Reaper was the best elite spec by far. The amount of damage that they can deal is absolutely ridiculous. Their only weakness at the moment is their lack of gap closers, and I can’t even imagine if you get stuck in melee range with one. The fact that you can stack 11 stacks of poison on someone with rs 4? Or that a shout for might can place 14-22 stacks of might on yourself? Or that gs3 into gs4 can take all/most of someone’s health? And all the while with two health bars to burn through like it’s nothing. I can’t honestly believe that Reapers will be let into the game without some serious tweaking.
don’t you mean gs3 into gs2?
Yes typo when typing fast. I meant gs3 > gs 2.
And please all of you that just come straight out of the necro forums to attack anyone that doesn’t agree with you, please go back there with your toxicity. Some of us who play necro actually want a balanced game… I love the elite spec, but I also want it to be in line with the others. Last thing I want is the flavor of the month cheese build to be reaper.
I won’t attack you but i will disagree. The reaper is not overpowered and I think it would take more then a weekend for most people to even learn to adapt to fighting a necro that is so much different then it’s base.
Just like I had my kitten handed to me bu daredevil and chronomancer over the weekend. Yet I want call nerf on them till I have had time to learn how to handle them better.
Also I don’t know how you can compare Reaper to the current meta builds and still think it is over powered in anyway.

The beta results speak for themseleves. I watched reapers and revs roflstomp for the whole beta, both are clearly OP.
Mesmer was by far the hardest fights I had as a Reaper, I lost more often then not, being kited around by a target that keeps vanishing is not the best thing for a slow melee build.
I think your problem lies between the chair and the keyboard.

The two main points I would like to focus on: Lack of damage reduction while using great sword
I think the designers of Greatsword realized that it had glass cannon issues, and that’s why they put life siphon on the Greatsword trait. In theory, landing a #3 grants you a decent heal.
Of course, that’s not the way it works out in actual game conditions.
I think the greatsword trait would be alot more appealing if it also granted the life siphon on RS attacks.
Or if it added a functionality like landing gravedigger on a chilled target would spread chill to all targets hit. This would then add a bit more defense to great sword with the damage reduction we receive from chilled enemies.

Reaper is so overpowered, especially condition reaper. It needs a hard nerf… my pu mesmer had a hard time vs a reaper necro running a condi build and fire spam in shroud. With duelist traits, a mesmer should effectively duel and defeat ANY class or player 1 on 1 with ease. Please fix reaper before launch because its not even close to fair now. It is borderline like stealth trapper condi thieves which kill you without ever being seen accept you can see them and they simply have 2 hp bars and burst you down with extreme damage
So you think YOU should never lose 1v1 and if you do said class that beat YOU needs to be nerfed?
I don’t normaly go here but for you I will. GTFO.

Daredevil with staff is a tough fight 1v1, I found 1v1 on my build tougher then when me and my buddy on rev did 2v3or4. I found reaper excellent in the chaos of a larger fight.
