RS feels good but seems to drain after the death shroud.

GS 1 is just to slow, I found the other attacks to be alow but manageable. Fighting someone with a fast attack weapon just makes you feel really really slow.

Does the reaper shroud drain more quickly than death shroud? I’ve got vital persistence traited (thinking it would affect both shrouds) but, in comparison to when I run straight necro and its death shroud, my reaper shroud seems to disappear really quickly. Could be a perception issue but…

I’ve seen okay damage with the GS but mobility is a real issue. The only class that I seemed able to go toe-to-toe with was a warrior – and that’s because they wanted to get in melee range too. Everything else just kited around the edges while I attempted to land chills or pull them to me…

It feels that way, wonder if it doesn’t have the damage reduction that death shroud has.

I will only use one trait for now. Chilling nova went from being able to proc three times in ten seconds putting a 3 sec chill on 3 targets to a 2 sec chill on three targets on a 15 sec icd.

So the amount of time it chills for nerfed, the amount of times it could proc nerfed and the icd was increased. That’s not a small change at all. It’s changes like that. Those are the things we see and wonder why.

Guys a build is made from different pieces. You can’t just go the power well route. Cant min/max its not that simple. Anyways I g2g. GL guys but seriously I am really trying to help. Not trying to get on a ego high.

Please tell me wtf me pointing out how a trait was hard nerfed has anything to do with a power wells build?

Yes traits are a piece of a whole but even some of the pieces are missing pieces.

So please Robert Gee, try to answer some of the exasperation of the community. As a mesmer main and necro second, I can say I love what you brought to the class, but we would all love constructive discussions to improve the class and the diversity of viable builds.

As somebody who mains a necro i can only say that my hope is that Mr Gee leaves his hands off the necro. I do not never ever want that he does the same thing he did to the mesmer also does to the necro. I want the necro at a reasonable level which fits in the overall class balance and not to be a class which is total out of control damage and utility wise like mesmers are at the moment.

You do know he made the changes to the necro and the mesmer at the same time.

what track record, afaik ele is still alive and so would shoutbow be if its damage didnt suck now. engi is also still tanky af, there is no track record.

Have you not seen what has happened from the reaper demo till now?

Sone times I wonder if anyone that deals with the balance in this game plays as a necro and not just against them.

What I saw was a spec that was hard to kill, and as we know from when the bunker meta was a thing Anet does not like that since it is boring to watch in spvp so it gets nerfed. This does not look good for reaper in general.

I agree with Bhawb. Even if the changes are ultimately correct, we are still in beta and as seen with Revenant and Blood Magic, they do listen to feedback.

Well yes but the feedback needs to fit in with the theme of the class. Just need to keep that in mind when we star to give feedback on the spec.

Id be more concerned about them putting an ICD on chilling force than blighters boon.

Well technically it already has a 1 second per target ICD, according to the description of the trait on the wiki, but I feel like the traits effects are too weak for little chill most builds not using GS autos will be able to put out.

And so it begins….

Also on the wiki, Chilling Nova has a 15 second ICD.

Looking worse and worse…

EDIT: So, even more lousy news.

  • Shivers of Dread: reduced to 2 seconds of Chill on Fear from 3.
  • Cold Shoulder: reduced to 10% damage reduction from 15%. Also reduced to 10% Chill duration from 20%.
  • Chilling Nova reduced to 2 seconds of Chill from 3. 180 radius.
  • No stun break at all on shouts.
  • Gravedigger reduced to 3 targets from 5.
  • Nightfall does not Cripple, though it does blind and damage on each pulse. 300 radius, 4 seconds
  • Executioner’s Scythe is 1.5 seconds of Chill. Not sure what it was before, but this is ridiculously short.

But hey! Chilling Force had its Might duration buffed from 4 seconds to 5!

I haven’t seen these before and I’m rather skeptical of Wiki’s due to the ease to edit them.

Are we sure this is accurate. o.o And if so wow? Really? Without even the Beta?

Actually, the only reason I suspect they’re legit is because we haven’t heard anything at all regarding these skills since the initial reveal.

See this is what happens when a necro beats one of the special snowflake classes in closed beta. Honestly thou only the clod shoulder and gravedigger changes are the ones the bother me. Those are the two biggest things that I see that made the melee part of reaper viable. Damage reduction and the ability to cause a panic with large aoe.

The stun break has to be a tool tip error. One of the shouts has to be a stun break.

From what I have read it will be 4 beta charter slots, each one will be fully geared and all traits unlocked.

As for build, I will be running spite,death,reaper and maybe a curses,blood,reaper build. Just want to test different combos out. On paper the amount of might and vuln you can get from a spite,death,reaper spec is crazy.

Currently, I still have hope for reaper but its DPS does not seem high enough. Having such slow attacks on GS, the DPS has to be higher than dagger but this is barely the case right now. But this is just a number, so I still have hope. It looks awesome, which is already something

I don’t think GS dps should be higher than dagger. Seeing as how dagger is 1-2 target max. If GS would out dps dagger, it would leave the latter in a bad state.
GS should have more burst (with it’s execution moves) and it should have the big cleaves; but the dagger should remain the high dps weapon.
Axe needs an overhaul so that it becomes viable to use at range, that way it doesn’t need to do top DPS as you can damage from a safer distance (plus it should give better debuffs).

Dagger vs GS I think GS should hit harder per swing and be on par for dps on a single target. It will be when you add in life siphon and procs that dagger will edge our GS if balanced well.

Alright folks, beta 1 is coming up and we need to get as much feedback as we can on Reaper. The only way we can see real change is going to be these weekend events. So if you want to see changes we really need to hammer on the new skills like GS attacks and Shouts. We need to see if shouts are to easy to interupt and if the effects are worth the risk. See if the damage on GS is worth the slow attack speed. Is chill and the new pull going to help with kiting. Will we have the defense we need to really be a melee class.

Anyways I think you get me. Also if you can make videos or stream that would be great too.

I like the fact that the new map is large and a bit hard to navagate. People will learn the fastest ways to get around given time but having it take longer to get to an objective is actually a good thing. The biggest problem with the current maps is the ease of wich you can move the zerg from place to place.

Well at same time Reaper minor also gives us access to our new weapon and shouts. It looks as if you may have access to your shouts and warhorn with out specing tempest. Also the other minors do just build on the first by making it not a punishment for using fear as a melee and also reducing damage again as a melee (a melee with no reflect, aegis, block or damage immunities)

So with the release of information for the tempest the first minor trait the tempest gets unlocks Overload allowing you to overload your attunements. The minor is called singularity.

If you look at the minor for Reaper it unlocks reaper shroud but also unlocks greatsword and shouts.

So my question is. Is singularitys tool tip wrong and warhorn and shouts are locked behind the trait OR is this a new direction with Elite specs where we can unlock the weapon and utilities with out having to spec the trait line? (I know we still need to unlock the line with hero points)

Necro can feel like a beast vs new or lower skilled players, Necro can feel like the worst class I the game vs players who can use interupts well, or have high mobility and choose to reset constantly, or have insanely high burst.

Honestly if you think Necro is op then you have awareness issues, necro has as a matter of design low mobility, slow cast times that are easy to interupts and a lack of stability and hard cc.

It’s stupid Posts like yours that make it so hard to get any real balance changes to the necro class. I mean look at what has happened since the announcement of reaper and it’s reliance on chill. It’s been needed before we even got a chance to see what it could do hahaha. (Cry)

Honestly GS needs to hit like a truck. The attacks are more then slow enough for people to dodge or use active defense to mitigate them. If you say you took Jason as a concept then you have to know what happens when Jason does catch you….

It is worse now then before, I was able to deal with kiting by using spinal shivers and spec grasp but the current changes made to movement skills really hurt chills ability to slow people down.

Kinda sad and ironic that chill took such a big hit right after the big deal was made about how chill was the anti kite tool for reaper.

I will most likely drop spite. Go curses, blood, reaper well for wvw roaming anyways. Pve will most likely be spite, curse, reaper. But this is all theory till I get to tale it for a test run.

They are offering a better deal to new players. They are not offering an equivalent deal to existing players.

Therein lies the rub.

Yes they are. Existing players are getting the core game for free. They just already have it, so they aren’t going to really notice any difference. What you mean to say is that existing players are not being offered bonus candy on top of what the new players are being offered, which is true, nor do we deserve it.

I spent $60 on something the newbies are getting free. If you think that’s fair, you go right on supporting ANet as they keep kittening you.

Yeah I think that’s fair since I have a lot of play time invested I the game all ready, it’s not like I haven’t used the product I payed for.

So some one else gets it for free now, what exactly does that do to make the game less enjoyable to you? What does it take away from you. How in anyway does in nullify anything you have already done in the game so far?

Here’s a real-world example. I’m very fond of the game The Sims. I’ve had every version since the original, and every expansion for said games (though I have skipped some of the “stuff packs”).

Every, and I mean every expansion for all those games has been released as a standalone that people didn’t get the base game free with. After a few months released as a standalone, some of the expansions (but not all) would be bundled with the base game as a way for new players to get in, but as I just said, that’s after they’d been out as a standalone for a while.

ANet’s problem is that they’re not letting us get the expansion separately, they’re going right to the bundle phase.

So Anet offers a better deal then the sims, in a game that requires a health player base. Yet that’s some how a bad thing?

Look, you need to add a new option for the expac. An expac only option. If you want to charge $49.99 for it, be my guest, I would suggest you give a lot more detail, a lot more quickly about the size of this expansion. It’s replay-ability, how many zones, dungeons, raid-type content? New fractals? From a content release, how does it compare to your last true expac, EOTN?

I can accept some inflation on pricing, but just justify it a bit more than you have. The Guild Hall announcement was amazing. It’s like you read my mind. Pretty much everything I wanted appears to be going into Guild Halls. But that’s been completely overshadowed by the pre-purchase boondoggle. And a boondoggle it is.

Here’s how to fix it: Have a new player and existing player option at the $49.99 price point.

New Player Option
-this is exactly what you can get now, base game, title, beta access and HoT expansion when it comes out.

Veteran Player Option
-Requires you to already own Guild Wars 2
-includes the Title, BETA Access and HoT expansion on release… AND…
-1 Character slot
-1 Bank Slot upgrade (for all that new loot you’re about to get)

That is all, carry on. Also, any player who already purchased option one and owned the game prior to doing so gets automatically upgraded to the Veteran Player option.

They don’t want to do that.
Especially since they WANT you to get gems to ‘upgrade’ your account, like character slots and bank slots, so you’ll spend extra money to get those. Also, they’re being really dodgy with questions about content, which makes me feel like they know it’s not really worth $50, probably less.

Well let’s see, Wow charged people for each expansion when it was released and you needed the base game and previous expansions also and they charged 55-60$ per expansion. This makes the GW2 expansion a much better deal.

Now before that I played Daoc who chargedo full price for an expansion but included the base game and previous content with the expansion. So if anything this reminds me of the way companies did it back in the day.

The only people I could see having a legitimate complaint are the people who had purchased gw2 after the announcement of Hot in anticipation of it release and be leaving they would need the base game first. Anyone else has owned the game long enough to have had time to get there monies worth from it.

As stoked as I am about necromancer with GS the cast times are a bit outlandish, 2.5 secs to finish an auto attack chain? I mean dagger 5 is 3/4 a sec and people walk out of that. No wonder we have so much chill on reaper it’s the only way we will ever land anything

I like what they have given the class and I for one am what in to see the changes to the blood line that could be a signicant group utility for us. Life siphon is actually fairly useful in pve off set splash and condi damage.

I don’t think it’s acceptable to not maintain dungeon content in an MMORPG. TYou cannot get the same type of immersion from open world content that you get in dungeon content, end of story. They need to hire some people to work on it and get it right.

See I dont think going out of your way to maintain a low use instance with poor rewards that takes a huge amount of development time should ever take presidents over other content.

Edit: that is unless they change dungeons from the way they currently are and make them something fun to run. I don’t mind doing them with a guild team but the skip content speed run stack in the corner only serra on class welcome meta is stupid.

Haven’t had a chance to watch the stream yet, I’m just going off what i’ve read on dulfy, everything else seems pretty cool, granted I haven’t seen it in action yet, but spammable chill just seems too much, why not cripple and have chill on one of the other 4 weapon skills?

I want necromancers to be viable, as It was one of the classes i really wanted to main back when the game was launched, but it just felt so lackluster and crap back then.

Spamable would be dagger AA speed, it’s no where near that and it’s seems to be the key to how reaper will have survivability in melee. Since the specs damage reduction, ability to stay on target and the ability to land it’s longer cast time shouts and attacks all seemed tied to the target being chilled.

@flow: Pretty sure those that want Withering Precision (including myself) do not want the version that is on live. I’d vastly prefer to see launch version come back in (chance on crit, short-ish duration, no ICD).

I’m thinking shouts or mantras. Also since we are getting great sword and Maj uses it in melee (biggest hint we have) our life force will be usd like adrenaline or still DS but new 1-5 skills that fit better with melee.

I have always been of the opinion that Necro needs to put out more weakness and chill. Sure as a class we can’t aegis or block or dodge, but we have good health pools and DS and we are a condition heavy class so lets use that to mitigate what people can do to us and our party.

Parasitic contagion’s effectiveness directly scales with conditions applied/damage, so you can’t call it a trait for power builds anymore then terror ‘because power builds can still use fears’.

From the other thread, I suggested a change to make plague signet more playable and interesting.

Currently Plague Signet does this.
passive: Pull conditions from allies 1 at a time.
Active: Transfers all conditions from you to your target.

While the active can be useful, the passive is terrible since we don’t have the condi removal to deal with a trickle of random conditions – our removals work best against burst.

If however we changed it to the following…

Plague signet
Passive: Transfer one condition from self to enemy.
Active: Transfer All (or 5 each, whatever works) conditions from nearby allies to self.

The passive gives you some much needed ‘small’ condi removal, while putting more pressure on the enemy, punishing them with their own conditions (it also makes corruptions less bad).
The active gives you actually meaningful team support, and because you choose when you take the conditions, they are far easier to manage through consume conditions/deathly swarm etc.

I call it the power traits because its the only one a power build would take as a gm in curses and its against two superior condition damage traits for the same slot. So the only thing I see is that is was put there as a power trait.

Parasitic contagion is the gm traits for power builds that take the curses line. Even power necros put out bleeds and torment, I think this is supposed to be appealing to power with its 15% heal now.

Honestly well I want to give more feedback I feel anything we say is the same stuff we have been saying for a long time now.

Waiting for GS is something in doing since I want a Gs on my necro. That said GS should not be the “fix all” for the class. That would.make us a pretty boring class with everyone running the same weapon and build set up since its the one that plugs the holes the class has.

Siphoning has to be more powerful (slightly) or work in DS.

Need a GM trait for power builds in curses. Right now you see how well chilling darkness would work with the vuln on chill from spite but you would really give up a GM. Its one of those almost builds.

Dhummfire would be better if it made all DS skills cause burning, not really bad with lower duration and since it stacks lower damage.

Also if abilities are getting reworked maybe its time to stop having abilities that cause such bad effects on us.
