Petrified Wood Node

Anyone know why these things churn out more Empyreal Fragments than Petrified Wood? I mean, I guess it follows much like Bloodstone Fen’s mining crystals gave bloodstone dust and bloodstone rubies, but I just don’t see the connection.

Yeah, its odd. I guess maybe its because an “Empyreal Crystal Formation” wouldn’t really fit with the setting or something, but mining wood and getting mostly crystal is… strange.

Petrified Wood is not actually wood – it’s a silica and other mineral fossil that has displaced wood. I’m guessing that Empyreal Crystals are one of the minerals that form inside the petrified stumps (Just as Quartz is so often found in real-world petrified wood.), with the harvested chunks of petrified wood being the intact “Other minerals”. Would have been nice as another source of quartz, though.

Eh… with the latest story, it seems the chance for Caithe to get killed off for being a treacherous and murderous liability has passed, unfortunately. I don’t think you quite understand HOW much Caithe’s actions hurt and betrayed the commander (Though I’m not sure the developers do, either). Then again, as far as I’m concerned, Destiny’s Edge aren’t "The Heroes’ – They’re a bunch of washed-up, incompetent and overly-dramatic losers who failed to kill one dragon, uselessly stood by and watched as the Commander and an airship crew killed the Zhaitan, and contributed nothing of significance to the death of Mordremoth (Aside from Caithe’s desertion leading to the destruction of the Pact Fleet, and Logan, Eir, and Zojja’s incompetence leading to the capture of the Pact Marshal)

That said, I am disliking how much of a jerk the commander’s being, especially in the last instance. But then again, I became a Lazarus fan as soon as he arrived and just started with “They are tied up in battle as well! I do not come with ill intentions!” before jumping immediately to defend the barrier and kicking so much kitten . That said, the “Right. Get me Taimi” line is the best, because it’s a joke, and both parties involve know it’s a joke (Taimi is way too busy doing other things). Caithe was even the one to suggest “Not me?” when the commander suggested someone watch the hatchling.

the “I’ll keep it cuz I don’t wanna rebuy it” people arent the target for the “people are sitting on their leather” comment. that’s referring to tp players sitting on 10k+ or so squares.

Why wouldn’t they sell it, knowing the “I’ll keep it cuz I don’t want to rebuy it” people who normally keep such prices down aren’t selling, and the price will continue to rise?

Yes i play the game since launch and know about lions arch and so on.

It just doesn’t have cruel or violent anti-heroes turning on their allies for personal gain.

I think that is exactly what i am asking for. I dont like this good/evil and nothing between stuff. I want those evil characters that turn on their allies and actually i want to do so myself if possible :P

We have Lazarus(Maybe), Caudecus, and Phlunt. That said – The evil characters that try to turn on their allies are seen a mile away from the protagonists (because they’re not all dumb), and have none of that bullkitten.

Frankly, I find “Evil people who betray their allies” to be completely insane. Your “I want Rytlock to be a bad guy” is “I’m wanna be an edgelord for the sake of being an edgelord, screw logic and consistency”

I’d suggest either Warrior or Thief, but that’s because I can’t figure out Revenant and its stances (It doesn’t help that my favorite stance, Demon, doesn’t have a stunbreak on Absorb Pain.)

Initiative is an amazing mechanic on thieves, and once you get Daredevil, with Physical utility skills and an extra dodge (That can be traited to be either Swiftness+Defense, or attack), the speed of actions can get pretty insane (And, thanks to initiative, you don’t have to wait on cooldowns)

Warrior is also great, thanks to its Burst Skill class mechanic. Berzerker makes the class get even more fast-paced (And you catch yourself on fire)

Lazarus (Spoilers)

Sartharina.3542

So, if he will lead White Mantle again, what will happen? The White Mantle will turn into good way as Lazarus or Lazarus is lying…

Well to be fair, there’s no more Abaddon so the threat of Titans is no longer relevant to any Mursaat. Abaddon pulled a Self Fullfilling Prophecy on the Mursaat which begs the question, would they have sacrificed any one on the Bloodstones to reinforce the Door of Komalie if their existence wasn’t threatened by what was on the other side.

I hope he’s honest or at least practical, “I don’t like you but we both don’t like the Elder Dragons.”

Then again, the bias in me has loved the Mursaat since Prophecies so I was happy to see him come to our aid…. again.

And, Lazarus has died through seeing the result of the Mursaat treachery. I was going to say he lived through that chain of events, but he didn’t. Of course, I’m not sure if Lazarus is being dishonest, or if he’s just too full of coming across as righteous and holy to use honest snark.

I don’t like how our characters were, well, characterized. Sure, I understand being distrustful of him – but the threats were absolutely laughable, and uncalled for. (Then again… he had me at his very first words. He’s now my second-favorite character, beating out my long-standing favorite Captain Ashym from the Urban Battleground fractal)

There’s a whole pile of “I know you know” going on with Lazarus, though – We know Mursaat were untrustworthy. Lazarus knows we know Mursaat were untrustworthy. He’s now come with the same deal from all those centuries ago, but… is he being honest, knowing that because we know the Mursaat are dishonest, he might as well not try to decieve us. Or will he try to decieve us anyway with the same deal, knowing that we know that’s what he’s doing, and we know he knows it, so would he really try it? I’ve gone cross-eyed.

I would prefer for them to be targeting Silk, Gossamer, Mithril and Orichalcum prices, honestly.

Silk is as cheap as never before ever since ascended crafting got introduced, gossamer is cheap as well. Mithril lost 70% of its value in the last 6 months, orichalcum about 50% of its value.

Sartharina.3542

I always thought you weren’t there because Trahearne basically said offscreen, “Commander, you’ve done a lot of hard work, take a vacation for a while. All the hard work is out of the way, and I don’t think the small fry left would interest you much. I’ll call you the second anything big comes up.”

As someone who didn’t play Living Story 1 because I was busy leveling instead at that time, I was under the impression that the screw-up with the commander’s characterization was from Living Season 1 and Personal Story essentially treating the Player Character as two separate characters. In the first, you’re treated as just an inhabitant of the (living) world, making fellow adventurer friends, exploring the world, and responding to each new crisis as it comes along, whether you’re a new level 2 character or level 80. In the latter, you’re a high-ranking commander of a military force.

Living Story 2 tried to merge the “Commander of the Pact” and “Adventurer in Tyria” into the single character – and it results in the awful runabout commander we get in LS2, Heart of Thorns, and ultimate Dereliction in LS3. (Of course, I think the Personal Story had the Commander hold onto the “Naive Newcomer” card for too long).

Yes, the main character is a godawful commander, given that he spends so much of the game just running around with the Biconics instead of actually leading the pact.

I am going to say – I do not like the Jumping Puzzle, nor that a mastery point and the map’s Full Achievement are tied to it. From what I’ve seen (Having completed it with the help of a map-breaker enthusiast mesmer), the puzzle isn’t for Jumping Puzzle enthusiasts – it’s for map-breakers. The use of gliding in the puzzle is great… but the sheer amount of dishonest geometry (Cliffs that look to steep to land on but aren’t, and platforms that look shallow enough to land on but aren’t), glitchy jumps (Either single, seemingly-arbitrary points to stand on dishonest geometry, and jumps exceeding normal jump height and angle, and jumps combining both, over unrecoverable falls), the puzzle goes from “Fun adventure” to “Complete bullkitten”

Event failure and toxic behavior

Experienced something similar in Dry Top. Saw someone fighting a boss, thought I was helping. Apparently the boss wasn’t supposed to be killed (???) and I was promptly told to go “kill myself”. Kinda puts a damper on any desire to lend a hand.

Skritt Queen? Or Sand Giant? Or not during the sandstorm. I could see someone not wanting help at the Sparring Rock boss because effect spam of other players could obscure the knockbacks.

Either way – this sort of thing happens in Dry Top because Dry Top is an absolutely horrifically-designed map, as far as the events go. Unlike the Frostgorge or old Queensdale event train, getting full rewards from this map requires a full hour of organization and commitment. The events are tied tightly to the timer, and the rewards are tied to the progress made during the calm.

Sand Giant usually isn’t fought because it takes the entire Sandstorm to kill. But nobody should really care if you fight him or not.

Skritt Queen opens halfway through the sandstorm, but requires the map to have made it to Tier 4 during the calm. However, there are several other events that spawn at the same time. I think most people have written Skritt Queen off as a loss, though, because of the Quartz (Did I mention that Dry Top is a completely bullkitten-designed map?) That said – it’s generally polite to run carefully around the edge to avoid aggroing her if you’re just popping into the map for the quartz.

Raids and build snobbery

Sartharina.3542

There is a reason for meta builds. People want to get raids done fast. Not wait around for someone who has a terrible build/arnor set. Most of these people arent being snobs.

The first part of this I agree with, and is a perfectly fine attitude. I totally understand people wanting to get through content as quickly and painlessly as possible. It’s the second part that gets to me..

Just because someones build/armor set isn’t EXACTLY what YOU consider meta, doesn’t mean it’s “terrible build/armor set”. That mentality, and condescending attitude is being a snob.

While it is true some people are more sensitive about comments. If you walk up to someone and say “your build is terrible and your armor/stat layout is terrible” Do you really think that will be well received? Or is it more likely to be considered an insulting…

Actually, I’m not sure if it’s about “Get it done quickly” as much as “Get it done at all”. Raids have extremely rigid, punishing mechanics, and an Enrage Timer that prevents passive/survival play. They also require close teamwork – If you’re gonna run as a PUG, you need to have the role you fill already fit a functional composition. It’s especially important to have the best stats possible if you’re inexperienced (Sure, pro groups do it in greens. But new raiders are best using at least ascended weapons+trinkets and exotic armor for the leeway in damage and armor they provide).

(armors keeping frogs pinned/dead)

Armors suck at fighting frogs without players who actually deal damage to back them up – Sure, they can break the bars somewhat easily (But it takes all 3 CC skills – hope you don’t need a bonebreaker stopped), but then they’re immune to further CC for a while. Also – their own CC spam shreds the armor’s breakbars. And Armor has a strong single attack, but its sustained DPS is awful. Frogs do a better job distracting armor than the reverse.

What is the point of having a minus (in combat for a minute)? You can’t use these in raids, WvW or PvP. That leaves dungeons and regular PvE. Are so many people doing dungeons that a full minute of in combat is needed?

Maybe arenanet needs to rethink this item. It’s expensive to buy for what it does and most of the time there’s a waypoint nearby so it’s easier to waypoint then run back rather than use something like that.

You’re assuming that Ring of fire and all future zones will have multiple waypoints.

I read that the new map wouldn’t have multiple waypoints,

Oh god really? Are they really keeping with the “Not enough waypoints to let you get into the action/area you want to be” bullkitten again? Why the hell can’t they stop that behavior and properly seed the map with enough waypoints to make travel not a headache. It’s bad enough that Silverwastes lacks any waypoints in the entire West and North areas (And one of the non-starting waypoints has a gate preventing access/exit more than half the time, and the other’s flat-out contested because of the dumbest event ever), and they blew up the waypoints in the Southwest of Brisban and middle of TImberline falls (Leaving massive swaths of land uncomfortably far from functional waypoints), and Tangled Depths has its most important waypoint contested every cycle because of the most irritating champ event ever…

Invisible bags are useful but when you switch out two one handed weapons for a two handed weapon one will go in the two handed weapon slot and the other will go into the first open inventory slot, which means it’s possible to sell it. I sold an ascended weapon to a vendor once when my game lagged during selling. I got it back because I reviewed my sales to merchant but a don’t sell mark on it would have stopped that.

You just need to leave a space in your inventory after the two-handed weapon – if you swap a two-handed weapon for a main and off hand, the main hand will go into the space vacated by the two-handed weapon, and the off hand weapon will go into the space to its right, if empty.

Except, any loot you get automatically fills up the first available space. So this only works if you don’t get any loot. If you’ve been running around for a while and want to switch a two-handed weapon to 2 one-handed weapons, it’s highly likely that space you trying to keep free is already filled up with something that dropped for you in the meantime. So your suggestion doesn’t work very well in practice.

This is why I keep my invisible bag at the bottom – the spare spots for swapping to two-handed weapons only get filledwith junk when I’m completely out of space.

But then the off-hand weapon gets punted to the first available space.

Frankly, I think the developers need to make it so that Invisible Bags are always last to fill with junk, and immune to inventory compacting. – They’re the bags you put your important stuff in, and it’s, from a player-convenience perspective, best to have that at the top of the screen so it’s readily available as soon as you open your inventory.

… why a 60-second combat lock?

Presumably so you don’t immediately start regenerating HP back to 100% and to maintain some measure of thoughtfulness in the proper usage of the item (ie. Don’t use if surrounded by fifty Chak).

Except “Surrounded by 50 Chak” is now one of the better places to use it, since you’re going to be locked in combat forever anyway.

Previously, Revive orbs were handy if you died somewhere obscure, like falling to your doom in a jumping puzzle or getting ninja-ganked by a flung rock in Bloodstone Fen. Now, with health regen and move speed snared for a full 60 seconds, it loses all of its “Get up and get back to exploring” function.

Before, it was a nice tool for resuming exploration after a misstep or lingering damage from a won battle (Condi or lingering area-denial) Now, the Revive orb has lost any sort of function outside of getting back up (instead of WPing) during a world boss fight.

BUFF open word enemies!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sartharina.3542

Sartharina.3542

I think they should buff core enemies, sort of, but along guidelines that make them not irritating to fight:
1. Be very judicious, not liberal, with CC spam. Enemy attack patterns should NEVER open their attack patterns with Cripple, immob or CC, or long-duration condis. Combat shouldn’t be a complete pain in the kitten to get out of.
2. Give faster, lighter-hitting attack combos.
3. Greater mobility/position play of the mobs, but without actual Evade frames.
4. Much shorter evade/block phases. Perhaps more use of short-duration blind (What the hell is with Dust Mite’s multi-minute blinds!?) and aegis on mobs (NOT blind/evade fields) – Nobody likes sitting on their thumbs waiting for a mob to become vulnerable to attack again.
5. Very judicious use of Defiance, or modify it so that Cripples, Blinds, Weakness and other soft CC still take full effect on veterans and lower. Unbreakable bars should be replaced with Earth-elemental-style stability (No Stun/daze/immob/knockdown/launch). Sure, no CC-immunity makes large group enemies a joke to zergs, but control should still be functional and critical in solo and small-team play.
6. Better enemy teamfight compositions. Between Punishers, Tormenters, and Snipers, I’m pretty sure everyone can attest to Mass Mordrem Guard causing too much area denial spam for fun fights. (However – I think this is simply a problem with the Into the Ruins Pale Reaver event, and somewhat in the Mouth of Mordremoth pre-events)

It would help if some core events were changed to be harder or atleast not on a set schedule.

Take SB for example, me and a friend saw Brenda (the beer escort) last night and started talking about how confused the new people would be having to do a pre to start SB.

They’ll NEVER experience Brenda, the old school SB portals, or even simple pleasures like the Queensdale Champ train.

The queensdale champ train was a blight on the game, not a pleasure. And the Shadow Beast DOES require a pre-event to start. All world bosses do.

That said – I wish they’d revamp Barradin’s Crypt into a world boss. Ascalon needs one.

Heart of Thorns was a sea change in difficulty and overall pace. I know people don’t like hearing that, but it’s true. Compared to the Core Game world, it was jarring to casual players. The fact ArenaNet said HoT would have more challenging content also cannot be denied.

Beforehand, it was play at your own pace. With Heart of Thorns, it became zerg or be left behind. It didn’t help that certain content was impossible until a certain criteria was met.

But this topic is pretty much a dead horse at this point.

Might be best to Google it and read the many, many, many threads about it.

“Zerg or be left behind”? What? Unless you’re referring to the main map metas (Octovine, Gerent, Dragon’s Stand, and partially VB night) it never was such a thing. That said, it did make teamwork significantly more rewarding, and required active participation in the maps. The only people who had to ‘zerg’ were the braindead players who only knew how to zerg the Queensdale Champ/EotM karma trains anyway.
