The same thing happened to every Elite Specialization unfortunately. We just one day could not even touch a weapon and all of the sudden we are not only able to touch the weapon, we can use new powers… just… like…that

Maybe it was an allergic reaction to the Jungle Dragon’s Pollen, or maybe it was Glints egg, idk.

No. It’s from channeling and attuning to the power of the jungle and the land. You can’t take an Elite Specialization without acquiring Hero Points from external sources.

It’s an ascended weapon provided as a reward for completing the Heart of Thorns story. My only gripe is the requirement of the Vision Crystal, which requires Crafting to acquire.

I have no idea what's going on.

Unfortunately, the game has two major ‘scars’ in the continuity that were a result of “Seemed a good idea at the time”. One was Living World Season 1. It was an attempt at innovation, but it left the world’s continuity a mess after its completion. The other was the rework of the Personal Story with the NPE, in an attempt to solve the complaint of ‘level up to resolve the cliffhanger/urgent situation’. Instead of just removing the level requirements from the missions and keeping the structure in place, it looks like they tried to restructure the story completely. Unfortunately, the process damaged a lot of continuity, and several details and choices got lost.

That said – I think the Sylvari storyline is the most ‘complete’ – it introduced Trahearne and Zhaitan immediately, and has the most foreshadowing of Living Story Season 2 and Heart of Thorns. The other races’ introductory missions are more worldbuilding than anything else, giving an insight as to how the races’ cultures function, and the drama therein.

That said – The story is like some weird pyramid of replayability – All the missions happen. You just get to select which missions you see with each character, and their events. For example – the “Blacked out Norn” storyline introduces the Gear warband that shows up in the Vigil path at the end. Tegwen, Carys, and their Orrian Mirror show up in one of the Sylvari paths (Also introducing Trahearne), then a Priory option, and finally twice in the assault on Orr – once as trying to see into Orr, and once in the Vigil path. Likewise, Galina Edgecrusher and Snarl Backdraft show up in the Iron Legion charr story,

Unfortunately, all the fun characters introduced in the Personal Story get ignored (A few, like Medic Ceera and Lord Faren, show up again. Larenthir of the Wild, introduced in the Vigil, has a large role in HoT as well) – I don’t know if any of their fates were visited in Season 1 or not, but I miss Galina and Snarl (I’d rather have them than Marjory and Kasmeer). We ended up getting a second set of heroes in Season 1 that continue through to the current. Why couldn’t we get Ellie, Snarl+Galina, Lord Faren, Laranthir (Though I guess Canach’s cool), and one of the more significant Norn from the personal story instead?

I… found this to be pretty boring, actually. First off – White Mantle Mesmers and Clerics aren’t hard to fight, just tedious. Killing the first twice, and latter having eternal block is obnoxious. Not even slotting the Signet of Might made them die fast enough.

The big problem with all the latest maps, though, is the lack of waypoints. Having to start adventuring at either the gate, Northermost corner, or the one little town on the eastern side of the map makes exploration and travel tedious.

Help! Crafting ascended armor/weapons.

Tiny, weak, hard-to-see orbs show up in later flights. All they do is an insignificant amount of damage and strip the achievement from you.

I’m biased, but I’d say Ranger or Warrior.

I have a lot of fun as my warrior in the open world, throwing myself into piles of Veteran monsters and just killing everything. I’ve been mainly playing my Charr warrior and Sylvari ranger, and things that provide a challenging showdown for my ranger are barely a speedbump for my warrior. However, I find that the Ranger actually does a better job of recovering from mistakes thanks to its pet and stronger on-demand heals (Especially with the Druid elite specialization). Of course, part of my problems with Ranger likely come from running a build I find thematically fun (Currently, he’s running Sword+Dagger/Greatsword because of the newest ascended weapon, with traits all over the place), while my Warrior wears full ascended gear (She’s my main) and is actually optimized (While still being fun for me)

Warrior:
In addition to Bow and Rifle, the warrior’s mainhand Axe, Offhand Sword, and Greatsword all have a ranged attack (And I think Offhand Mace and Hammer have longish-range blows). Rifle is great for pulling enemies, but doesn’t become Great until you go Berzerker (I think its normal burst is overly-niche. Its primal burst is extremely flexible, though.) You also have fast approaches on Sword 2 and GS 5 and a utility skill (You also have ranged utility skills)

Highest base HP pool in the game. Even in full DPS gear, it’s still hard as hell to take down. The Healing Signet is the strongest heal in the game in terms of sustained healing (but it can’t burst heal). It also has good access to active defenses.

Excellent damage, especially on Greatsword and Axe. With a Greatsword, you’ve also got incredible cleave, including a whirling evade, boomerang pull (that also cripples), and a rush (I mostly use it for traversing the map

No real need to micromanage it. It’s extremely straightforward.

For endgame – it has a strong protected role in Raids and Dungeons as a Might Engine, and is fairly straightforward to play (Just use a greatsword and hit things)

Ranger -
Your Axe, Shortbow, Warhorn, Longbow, and maybe Torch are all ranged weapons, with Greatsword and Sword functioning as your melee weapons. Greatsword has a block+knockback that you can hit again to throw. Sword is strong in melee, and provides a lot of evades. Your off-hand with a sword will also provide a ranged attack.

It has a moderate hitpoint pool and medium armor. Not as great as a warrior, but its pet helps with surviving. You also have strong defensive utilities (Signet of Stone, Signet of the Wild), and lots of evades (Especially on Sword+dagger, and Greatsword has an evasive Leaping Charge and an evade on Autoattack, in addition to a block that you can also use to throw). If you do go down against a single tough foe (Or several weak but still healthy foes), your pet can bring you up again.

… Damage is very low, unfortunately. But I don’t run an optimized build, either. Still, I find it passable.

I find it to be pretty simple to play. It may be why I have such low damage

Rangers are also valuable end-game, though as Healers or Condition Damage dealers.

Because I am a shameless show-off in Fashion Wars 2, I have provided pics of my ranger and warrior.

Since HoT release has the game improved much?

I can only speak from my experience but when in HoT I get massive frame rate problems after an hour or so, even though in vanilla GW2 |I have none. My drop rates are.. well..I get better drops out of the back of my dog. (3 months between decent drops and i mean 250g type drops. one every 3 months…that’s not even remotely good..) Dead maps causing me to change map every 15 mins or so…plus they keep making me go to Orr for my dailies That or Dragon’s Reach, which is almost always dead.
Yes, I tried LFG for DR, it ended up with the three of us looking awkward and we went our separate ways, vowing to never speak of it again…
Yet I keep playing as I have invested a lot of time into this game (the one before it too…)
I would just like to get the occasional award in recognition of this.

I assume you mean Dragon’s Stand. That map is on a universal timer. You have to look/join at a specific time in order to get involved.

And your idea of what constitutes a “Good Drop” is ludicrous. GW2’s loot system doesn’t work that way.

Thank you.

I guess the main things I’m looking for are the three things I posited above. Game performance, QOL changes to single-player, and added skillsets. If you or anybody else has anything to add to that that would be great.

64-bit client likely improved performance. I’m not sure, though.

As far as QOL to single player – last April’s update nerfed several map events to be a little bit more solo-friendly (Wandering Champs got degraded to veterans), and the reward system was tweaked to make individual events be more rewarding (Still need cooperation for the “Big Metas” on each map – VB Night, Assault on Tarir, TD Chak Gerent, all of Dragon’s Stand). However, most encounters are best with at least one other player around, and the event chains still have 5-10 person groups in mind.

No added skillsets, and I don’t think any more will be added until the next elite spec.

I hope they actually do follow through on making Tengu playable. I’ve seen a few complaints of a “Lack of Space” for them – Nonsense. There are two gaping “Insert Tengu Here” holes in the map already – one roughly city-sized between Kessex Hills, Gendarran Fields, and Lion’s Arch, and a conspicuously Starter-zone shaped hole between Caledon Forest, Kessex Hills, and Claw Island.

Just to add to this, I think the Tengu were planned to be a 6th race at launch and that the starter area was originally planned to be below Kessex Hills. There is an area on the south east border called the Dominion Killing zone. There is a Tengu there and a Tengu wall along the border. However I think that starter area was removed. The map south of Kessex is mostly water and a few islands.

Water and a few islands isn’t problem geography for a starter zone, especially for a race like the Tengu. Elevated walkways/buildings over a shattered archipelago (And, with Gliding being a thing now, updrafts and elevated structures), it would give the prospective Tengu race a distinctive architecture and layout for their race.

Sure, it would require changing how the Gliding mastery works a little bit (Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and it’s a relatively minor overhaul compared to all the trait changes the games’ gone through), but it’s not like non-expansion owners would be able to play as Tengu anyway. I think ultimately, given how the game’s evolved, there’s room for excellent payoff for a sixth race (And, I think it also fits thematically, since this game seems to have a thing for the number 6)

The Tengu Personal story missions getting them from level 1 to 80 (Which should dump them into the expansion’s main story, not Orr) would be cheaper to produce than other missions due to only having one race worth of voice acting for the player character.

Yes, it would take a LOT of effort to make it work, and quite a bit to maintain it… It might require an expansion that requires two years and a full half of the team!

Now, for once, we get a game that has clothing meant to make females look epic rather than kittenty,

We must be playing two different versions of GW2… ’cause even if epic-looking clothing is an option for females, I see WAY more female PCs with skimpy and over-sexualized appearances in-game (and the screenshots people post of their characters) than I see with something epic and/or sensible for battle.

~EW

It’s no news that players in MMOs rush for the skimpy outfits even if those aren’t the main trend, most people need to compensate for other activities they don’t seem to have. But in that case, what are you complaining about? You have what you want. There’s some trench coats, so what? You can reskin your gear so just do it if you don’t like it.

I have the Aetherblade medium set skin on my engineer, it’s neither a trench coat nor is it skimpy. I really can’t see the problem you could possibly have, unless your objective is to get trench coats out of GW2, which isn’t going to happen.

Also if the game’s artists like medium trench coats then who are you to tell them otherwise? It’s their game.

lol. It’s a business selling to customers. Not a fashion show for themselves. If customers don’t like what’s being offered then they should say so and say what they want. Do you actually think ANet doesn’t want to know what is liked or disliked when they sell something in the gemstore?

You can convince them to nerf or buff classes and make some minor changes here and there, but I highly doubt you can ever make them change the theme or design choices of their game, no more than you can change the core mechanics of its gameplay. They’d just tell you to go look elsewhere.

You buy the game knowing what you’re gettng, it doesn’t grant you any say in how it should be directed, if you think so you should read your ToS all over again.

What are you talking about? The OP is about the gemstore outfit which is another trenchcoat. Asking for non trenchcoat outfits is against ToS? As for armor, there are non trenchcoat medium armors so asking for more non trenchcoat armor is against ToS? Were you aware that female Charr and Asura only had male armor and outfits at launch and because of feedback from people wanting female armor and outfits for them they now are getting female outfits and armor?

Against ToS?? Really? Lol.

Who are these people wanting Female armor for Charr and Asura? The new Wolfborn outfit, Ancestral Outfit, and Exemplars Outfit (IIRC) have been ruined by making them gendered on Charr (The Ancestral outfit being the worst by far – The male got an excellently tailored suit that conformed to the anatomy of the race perfectly. The female got a stretched, clippy mess with a boobwindowtonothing)

Medium armor wise, the Ley-line Coat is a beautiful vest ruined by a bulky buttcape attachment.

Hello everyone, let me tell you a fun story.

About 2 months ago i started to flip the tp and i discovered a good way of farm, sadly this farm is basically controlled by a bot and i reported all the infos i could gather to the support, they told me that they will send my report to the supporters that deals with bots and i was happy, today i went again to flip the tp and hell if i’m wrong, this bot basically stood there overbidding me of 1c INSTA everytime for like (AND IM NOT EVEN JOKING,i was off from work and so angry i just stood near my pc for like 18 HOURS straight) 60-70 times in a day,the result is that i got carpal tunnel and the one that is using this bot goes out having fun with friends while the same bot does the whole work for him, now,i’m not angry with the bot itself because THEY EXISTS and PEACE,i’m so frustrated and disappointed to the WHOLE gw2 support community,as i said back there i reported this disgusting abuse of exploit 1 month ago and i did it today too with more proofs of it : the result is that the bot is,even in this EXACT moment neverending bidding and support gave me the SAME exact response i got 1 month ago.

Note : This is not a rage topic but it’s just a request of Help and advices.

What should i honestly do ? drop a game i paid with irl money (Core + exp) because it’s surrounded by bots and support basically at this point, let me just say it, DOES NOT care or should I just go ahead knowing that I could farm the tp (working 14 hours a day) if this squalid thing didn’t exist or at least someone cared and was nerfed to the root?

I see lots of bots in the world, too – like in the Hidden Garden. That said, I think that “tp flippers”, who add nothing to the game other than to increase costs to the community, should be treated in the same way that you say bots should be, and for much the same reasons.

Actually, TP flippers reduce costs to the community, not increase them. They take gold out of the market (That 20% list fee), and, through competing with each other, undercut overpriced sellers and overcut underpriced buyers, equalizing the value of items.

The final boss fight. I’m glad you had confidence in my ability to finally figure it out, but a little guidance would have saved a lot of pain. The boss with the grubs had a nice little subtext for his weakness (even if my first thought was “weak to Death Magic? I’m a necromancer! I have tons of it!” In hindsight I should have known that’s not what you meant xD) The final boss had nothing.

I have several friends that managed to do this fight and yet still have no idea what had to be done there. Yep, giving players some hints would have been a good idea.

it doesn’t help that it’;s apparently bugged or something, so that even if you figure out ‘how it works’, it might not work consistently enough to let you know that you figured it out.

Welcome to Guild Wars 2!

I’ll say, that while the game’s graphics may not be ‘realistic’, and instead going for a ‘Painted Fantasy" look (Which, IMO, looks better than realistic when you start bringing in fantastic beasts), where this game really visually shines is in character animation… except elementalist scepter, but that’s a decision to make scepter animation style lame, rather than quality. As someone who’s played FFXIV a bit, and seen gameplay videos of ESO, the animation in this game does a MUCH better job of having the characters move naturally in the game world (I couldn’t even get into FFXIV because of how bad the jumping and moving animations were)

I’d say… crafting is kinda meh, and a bad money and material sink. However, it’s critical for getting some end-game things, so it pays off in the long run.

Music – Aside from “Battle against the Tamini”, which I find irritating beyond everything (And it doesn’t help that it plays exclusively during a long escort quest in one of the story branches), it’s pretty great, though it can get repetitive in some of the boss battles (“Raven Speaks”, while epic in its own right, is a bit overused IMO). Once it gets to HoT, though, the soundtrack changes significantly – which is understandable because it’s a new artist, and also fitting because, while the player fights the same, the way enemies work completely changes the rhythm of combat as well.

Personal story – It starts strong, then starts to be a letdown after level 30. There are also irritating parts where NPCs you talk to don’t remember you (There’s one possible pathway for Sylvari that is VERY bad about this, with two NPCs that forget you’ve been involved in all their significant adventures every single mission)… but the level 80 story gets decent again.

There are lots of animals out there that could be fun pets but we can’t yet unlock, like the rock dog. At least those can be tamed by the ogres, so surely they could teach us how to do it!

Other random animals off the top of my head:
-Raptors. Too much like moas, but mentioned for completion.
-Bats. They’re kind of nasty, but we don’t have a lot of flying pets.
-Sea Turtle. These were only found in non-Risen variety by Ember Bay, but no one would turn them down.
-Skales. I’m pretty sure skales aren’t tamable, and they’ve been around since pre-Searing Ascalon.
-Melandru’s Prowler. Probably not different from regular panthers, but MELANDRU’S PROWLER!
-Beetle. This one is probably the hardest (pun half-intended) to justify, but hylek can ride beetles, so they can clearly be cowed.
-Other devourer breeds. There’s two available already, but I think there are other breeds out there.

That’s good enough for now. Maybe if I come across other species in my journey, I’ll add to the list.

Isn’t there a Heart in Ascalon with Charr taming skales?

Sort of. The Asura are helping, so they can wage Full Skale War against the Separatists. (And yes, the game makes that pun). But even then, it’s not so much taming them as neurologically shocking them into docility, dragging them to the target, then making them go rampant (Though the game prevents them from going hostile to players for mechanical limitation reasons)

Skill splitting is fine but I tend to agree with OP that the diff shouldn’t be too crazy. Should be more like CD changes, damage changes, heal coefficients , boon durations etc.

I like also that some changes are ported into WvW as well.

Cooldowns should not be changed. IMO, only damage/heals and coefficients should be changed. Balance numbers without screwing up the feel of the class.

the reality of the balance patch

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sartharina.3542

Sartharina.3542

I can definitely see an increase in viability for mesmers – not as support, but as a dps class.

Which is kinda sad really. They’re killing the one true support class in the game, and for what?

Simple – because the game doesn’t want a “True support class”, at least not one that stands so far above the others that they are labeled “The one true support class”. By crippling the Mesmer’s domination of the support roles, they allow other classes to be sought for support viability, and allow Mesmers to be sought and played in less support-oriented roles.

My biggest problem with Anet’s balance changes is that it’s tied to the PvP season. If they goof up balance, we’re stuck with it for far, far too long, and when Balance Patch time rolls around, we get stuck with either class-breaking changes or underwhelming shaves/boosts, and stuck with them for far, far too long. I wish they’d just iterate small changes to balance every patch.

Looks like no one's happy re balance patch.

They said they were reworking the shortbow in this patch, but I don’t see how a weak 1.5 second bleed on the Auto and nothing else of consequence can count as a ‘rework’.

Why are people crying at druid nerf? Why are you allowed to heal for lots but are also able to ware either berserker or viper gear at the same time. I can’t think of any other class that can get away with having strong healing AND high dmg out put. Reminds me of gw1 a smiters boon.

Because Berzerker/Viper gear on Ranger is about as effective as Cleric/Shaman gear on any other class in the game.

Having a group doesn’t make the game any easier.

10 People of the same skill level. 5 are randomly put together, 5 are friends and in comms all the time. The game is easier for the 5 friends. Sometimes they lose, sometimes they win, but they will win more often because communication is important.

Except they AREN’T of the same skill level. You have a team of 5 people of assorted skill levels but might be voice chatting (OR might not, they may have just had a really lucky blowout of a game on a specific map and decided to party up because of it) vs. 5 people of comparable skill to the best person on the premade. but no communications.

2. She’s allied with Norn, Sylvari, Asura, and most notably Charr – all of them undermine her sovereignty over Kryta. Using a Sylvari enforcer to take down the biggest threat to her power will NOT go over well with the common people. The charr one is especially troubling.

I get the issue with the charr, but what’s the problem with the other three races? Humans were never at war with any of them.

Pride/Arrogance/Sovereignty. Humans like being the indisputed master of their world, though they tolerate other races not interfering (Or, at best, interfering in a minor, pro-human way. They’ll applaud a Norn helping fend off a Grawl or Charr assault, for example – as long as said Norn doesn’t seek any sort of authority or station as a reward).

Yeah, I’m going to need you to back up that claim with some sort of proof. I don’t remember seeing anything like that from any group of humans except MAYBE the White Mantle, and we haven’t seen much of them until quite recently (at least, in their present form). It doesn’t have to be much: idle chatter in any of the settlements, something mentioned in any of the instances, even an item description that people may not have necessarily read. Humans seem to have had pretty good relations with both norn and asura ever since their first encounter back during Eye of the North, and the game goes out of its way to show that all 5 races are happily working together to defeat the dragons (at least for now).

Actually, the White Mantle are one of the few that willingly cast aside their own sovereignty for that of another race. But it’s something that’s EXTREMELY clear throughout the entire first game. It’s just glossed over because the story’s told from human perspective. Humans do work well with Norn and Asura – those two races were weak and no threat to human sovereignty, as well as residing in areas humans have little desire to make their own. However, while humans certainly appreciate Norn and Asura assistance and esteemed individuals, there is absolutely no sign of them having any respect for those race’s authority figures as such. And, it’s only with the threat of the Elder Dragons and other contests of Sovereignty that the races started tending to their own territory instead of expanding into each other’s, and working toward a common goal. Even now, Charr and Humans are violently arguing with Grawl, Skritt, and Ogres over control over Ascalon, seeing those two races as beneath respect. Norn share similar contempt toward the Grawl, Dredge, and Jotun in the Shiverpeaks (They get along with the Kodan because the Kodan are a weak refugee race that do not challenge the sovereignty of the other races). The Humans are fighting with Centaur and other races for Kryta, and Asura are shamelessly and amorally experimenting on Skritt, Ettins Hylek, and until recently Sylvari in Maguuma.

Every race in these conflicts see themselves as the one true hero race worthy of the land and its resources and culture.

Humans like being the indisputed master of their world

So basically just like the Charr, Asura, Mursaat and every other race except maybe the Norn and Sylvari.

Exactly.

But then nobody would wear medium armor at all!

… actually, that’s not true. There’s a dude in my guild who’d LOVE to wear medium armors on his guardian.

OP, I am also fed up with what ANet has done since LWS2. It just doesn’t feel right for our toon to be so aggressively hateful towards Caithe, a character who is 1) a Firstborn, 2) a member of Destiny’s Edge, and 3) the Sylvari toons’ mentor. Why would anyone expect a character like that to have evil intentions?

It’s kinda awkward how they characterized the situation, because we had “Wary but trusting at the moment of betrayal” to “Hateful well after it” – It would have made more sense the other way around (Initial hatred and bile toward her, followed by softening as time passes and heads clear).

Frankly, I wish my personal character had roughed up Caithe if not outright killed her upon meeting again, if only from a result of her OWN character traits:
1. As a Blood Legion Charr, she was raised with and learned authority from Urvan Steelbane. Sure, he was incompetent and had several “What not to do” lessons learned, but there are reasons Abuse becomes a cycle.
2. Her own father pulled the exact same “Steal the important macguffin, and run away leaving those trying to bring him to justice in an even bigger mess” garbage, and she personally executed him for it. Caithe was essentially pulling the same thing, though.
3. My commander feared catastrophic military defeat (And loss of respect from such) more than anything else. Thanks to Caithe’s treacherous shenanigans, the Pact Commander was unable to be where she needed to be during the Assault on Mordremoth, leading to the complete annihilation of the Pact Fleet and its supplementary forces, which the Commander had personally worked to secure and ready for the assault. So, thanks to Caithe pulling the exact same treacherous bullkitten Vallus Smokemane did (Either without the excuse of a draconian commanding officer, or said draconian Commanding Officer being the Pact Commander), the commander failed Trahearne, failed Kryta, failed the Legions, failed Whitemane, and failed the Peackeepers with the waste of life and resources lost in the failed attack. Oh, and failed Trahearne and Destiny’s Edge by not being there (Considering the Pact Commander alone is 50% of their firepower, as observed by genius Zojja)

Of course, this is a very specific set of choices selected – for other options, being distrustful doesn’t make sense.

I’d like a jungle-themed borderland, that, while providing simple paths between objectives, also has a enough levels and alternate paths to allow surprise attacks and unconventional movement.

So, from these basics assumptions, John Smith has decided to follow his former mentor Adam Smith and his invisible hand ?

I know that was bad I’m sorry for that.
Ok, I’ll just be leaving now …
