Have any of you knee jerkers checked the prices lately? Silk plummeted last night and so did linen. And since the Dulfy posted the cheapest way to craft it was to use leather the price of the leather mats sky rocketed. Were all on the same playing field now YAAAAAAYYYYYYYY

Its a pain if you like to craft and use the mystic forge to make money. It forces us to zone extra and if you have a medium to slow internet connection that takes more time. How about you guys go and add the crafting stations at the vigil keep instead of trying to get us to buy that airship pass.

First off, does this pass only give one character access to the air ship or when I buy it do all of my 8 characters get to go up there? Also will I have to transfer the pass around to my other characters or does my entire account just have access? If the answer is “Your whole account has access without having to transfer around an item” then a-net, you just made yourself some money. If not, then, is this some kind of joke?

But now that I have been informed and know what to expect I was able to go read up on it and I know the story of the dragon that matters. I dont know, all I know is, is that if we get anything less then one new explorable zone(reforming Lion’s Arch doesnt count…. it almost half counts but nope still doesnt count) I will be super disappointed. Sadly I bet all we get from the end of the living story is another world boss that scales poorly causing you to have to line up an hour before it starts (probably on a server you guested to) so you can get into that special overflow for a chance at blues and greens.

How a bout a warrior with a scepter, Personally I always thought eles with daggers was weird. Anyway, my main let down is that youll just get skills for free. I think if they go down this road they will be missing out on a good chance to implement horizontal progression. It would be cool if you quested for the skills but since that was only just brought up in the last CDI and they said they would “talk” about it means it couldnt be possibly ready to implement and go live with.

To me its the only thing they could be talking about since its about the only thing that would shake up balance in this game. Well besides all the nerfs anyway.

I want more skills and more builds but I like to quest for these things and slapping a new weapon on that automatically gives you new skills doesnt fit that model. Also I like being able to tell what class someone is by looking at what weapons they are carrying.

@Delvoire.8930 its great that you have fun standing around talking with friends/doing your daily/map completion. A lot of us dont. Ive already completed these maps and I can only do my daily once a day. I still need lots of money and items to gear my characters. Im also tired of running dungeons and want to play new content and not have to stand around and wait for it. I dont even want to have to wait 30 min for it, let alone an hour.

The fact is this software company has the power to reduce the wait times and make the situation better but they refuse to do it. They could scale the event, they also could design it so it doesnt need a full maps worth of people to beat it in the first place, or they could (and this would be the most costly method for the company) raise the pop caps of the main zones and overflows. Once again the content itsself is fine, standing around waiting to play it is not.

@Volkon, nope, it does not create that problem. Just do it like all the other world bosses. Give out a big daily chest for first completion, then give out greens and dragonite for the subsequent runs and people will repeat it. Thats how it works for every other world boss.

@Delvoire and what, stand around for 30 minutes while you wait for it to spawn. I only have a few hours to play a night. I dont want to spend my precious time standing around with my thumb up my rear. Maybe you find that enjoyable but I like playing content. They either need to make things scale in the overflows or increase the number people allowed per map or if both of those things is too complicated then dont design content that cant be done by less than 80 – 100 people. The tower of nightmares patch was more fun than this.

Why this content isn't working

in The Origins of Madness

Sparkfly was already dead before they revamped Teq. Thats part of the reason they picked that boss to begin with. Now at server reset guilds show up and take him down. They cap the map infact. But after that one kill of the day no one goes back. If they would scale the event, I believe more people would show up to fight him. Or if they increased the allowed amount of people on the map, at least more people would get a shot at him during that one kill of the day

And we should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once – Nietzsche

Thanks for the Overflow fest!

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Savoy.6824

My solution to overflow would be to have the content scale to the number of people doing the event. Then it wouldnt be so bad to be in overflow. As it stands right now you need 80 – 100 people to beat the event and not every overflow has those numbers.

That or allow more people into the main map. And if that is too technically challenging then they shouldnt design open world content that takes 80 – 100 people to take down period.

@aspirine I wouldnt give them too much heck about the nightmare tower. Atleast they tried to throw some instances in there. Also there was the Twilight Arbor Aether dungeon path. Granted its annoyingly long and not many people run it (and in my personal opinion not all that much fun) but it isnt a zerg fest. I havnt played it yet but I heard the boss in lornars pass is supposed to split up the zerg a little by having the zerg build defensive structures and man arrowcarts. Sounds like it will be fun and if nothing else a little more inventive than just everyone pilling up and dpsing down the robot the way people do shatterer.

@Rennoko.5731 I can agree with you that waiting till april to roll out these changes is too long. But Im not convinced that things like dumbfire and warrior healing signet needed to be in this patch. Ill try to be open minded if you want to take the time to convince me. I just got my necro to 80 and I did for WvW so I havnt been keeping up with the dhummfire discussion much. I do know people have been wanting the healing signet nerf for a long time and I feel its ok if they take it down by the proposed amount but Im glad there not doing it with this patch.

I am saddened by a lack of quality of life improvements. There was an awesome wish list on reddit discussing quality of life improvements and I had hoped one of them would make it like the salvaging fractal rings. Instead the fixed something we had a work around for. Depositing minipets. It would have been so much better if they would have made it so they stay out when you go between zones so you dont have to keep clicking on them to bring them back out. We could already keep them in an invisible bag so who cares about that change.

@Rennoko all I can say is before the dec 10th balance changes they did a pretty good job of discussing them with the players and they actually made a few adjustments based on player feedback. Prior to that I personally had a major issue with them just rolling out balance changes all willy nilly. Its annoying when you spend time and money gearing up a character only to have them change it at the spur of the moment. As it stands now I have 2 months to prepare for the upcoming changes to crit damage and traits. I can level my engi in that time and be ready to embrace the already OP condition meta. I hope everyone can agree that this is a much better system and that they understand that they should have be extreamly angry if there were balance changes in this patch because we would have had no chance to discuss them.

Notes Preview?

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Savoy.6824

Savoy.6824

There will be patch notes tomorrow. I can almost guarantee that there will be some new skins either armor or weapons or back attached to the content. The question is how do you earn them. Is it through beating the meta (most preferred way), Random drop from some new chest the enemies drop or from the big enemies themselves (acceptable solution) or will it be the ever terrible black lion chest.

I personally hate that they waste time trying to surprise people vs. full disclosure because people like me with limited play time could be doing something leading up to the patch to prepare for it. For instance if they decide to put new skins in the god awful black lion chest, I could be out farming keys in preparation. But since they have foolishly disclosed nothing about the event, I have been farming gold hoping that pays off. Seriously it’s still a surprise whether they tell you about it on January 14th or January 21st. I bet there will be some people who can’t play this week and they won’t find out the info till January 28th. So since time of discovery of the information is the only thing that factors into how surprised you are by the story I think they should divulge the information early so people with limited play time can prepare for the patch.

New World Bosses

One of the big reasons I feel people dont like the Teq fight is the wait time to fight him. I promise you people line up everyday at reset to fight Teq on Stormbluff Isle. So people definitely like the fight. The wait times could be addressed if they made the fight “SCALE” or if they raised the zone capacity. Putting it into an instance is not the best solution because then you need to be in a big guild or find a group that is willing to take you to complete the content. I personally think its a blast working along side with people from my server to take down a boss.

New World Bosses

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Savoy.6824

Savoy.6824

Im excited for this but I am concerned that the wait time to fight the boss will be long. I am going to be running off the dangerous assumption that the new boss will be as hard or harder than Tequatl to beat the event.

Another assumption I will make is that the wait time for the boss will be long because people will line up in the zone at least thirty minutes ahead of time because they dont want to be in an overflow where killing it always fails, they want to be in main where “wurm kill squad” is and get the win.

There are a couple of things I think they could do to reduce the wait time. One thing I believe would help is increase the number people allowed in the zone before hard cap. It is my opinion that if you let more people in then they wont have to line up as early since there will be less chance of being refused.

Another option I think would work would be make the boss easy enough to kill that it can be done in overflow as well as in main. If they would just add two maybe even one more turret at the Teq encounter I think that event could be won more frequently (a higher percentage of times, not ALL of the time.) than it is currently. Even better, make the event dynamic so that it is slightly easier in overflow than it is in main. For example, put an extra turret in overflow at the teq encounter, or have one less head spawn in the wurm encounter.

I know most of you reading this are probably thinking “gees its not even out yet and already people are complaining, wait and see how hard it is before you say something”. Im trying to get started early since there is in my opinion a problem with the wait time with there current world boss. And it hasnt been addressed and its been around for 6 months and I feel if no one says anything, that they’re implementation wont change with the new encounters they put out. I love the Tequatl encounter and I think its fun, but I hate standing around mining minerals waiting for the boss. Id like to get there and get it done with only 15 min of setup time.

TLDR; More hard content, yes please. More content that I have to wait around 30 minutes to play, I vote no. You can have it both ways if the developers are willing to make some adjustments.

@DiogoSilva “One system worth looking at, is Final Fantasy VII’s materia system. That was excellent horizontal progression. And I wonder, could something like that be simulated in GW2, perhaps with a slight revamp to the way runes and/ or infusions work?
Like combining an upgrade that adds damage on critical with another upgrade that makes that damage AoE (similar to FFVII’s classic Magic + All materia combo). But, perhaps, that could be redudant with the trait system.”

Final fantasy 7 materia was one of my favorite progression systems. You could plug in different types of materia into your sword and the sword would do different things based on the type of materia put in. So if you pluged in fire materia your sword would cause burning. Diablo does something a little similar but a lot more dumbed down. Guild wars 2 kinda does it with sigils but you cant combine sigils to make new effects like you could with materia in final fantasy.

Ultima online housing. It was good except for the fact that they sprung up everywhere. It was the best ever because other players could see your house with out you taking them there. I think star wars galaxies did it better later by having player run towns. Except they allowed the towns to be attacked by other players which isnt a bad idea completly just poorly implemented from what I heard.
