I do agree IndigoSundown it is better and more ambitious than what they have put out prior. I really am happy that theyre finally doing big map invasions. I guess you gotta start somewhere. Also I am enjoying this patch as a whole. I just want Anet to realize that they have still yet to deliver really compelling events.
Also I think a new zone would be great. Another zone thats low level so that new players can participate in it with no hearts so that no one will care if it gets taken over.
I want Anet to win, I really do. Especially since Ive put a considerable investment of my own real life money into this game. But at the moment they are not giving me what I thought they said they were going to give me in the manifesto. This game has several cool things like a nice combat system and wvw but what really got me to get back into mmo’s was the dynamic event system. The one they told us about not the one they actually delivered.
But theres still hope. I mean they have the system in place they just need to use it an perfect it. Its crazy because if they did perfect it they wouldnt have to release content every two weeks because the game would actually be a total blast and they wouldnt even need the two week gimmick. The content would be writing itsself. And alas, EQnext isnt coming out this year anyway.
@IndigoSundown In regards to event failure, maybe they could have a counter that keeps track of everytime an event fails and if it happens enough then some outcome gets produced. Like a bigger invasion. I personally would like to see the whole zone taken over and content become inaccessible but I do understand it would annoy certain people (if were my game and my game alone, Id say screw those people I dont care, this is how I want it, but its not my game) I like the invasions, I think they are half way there. But right now there are very little consequences for failure other than missing out on cool loots and having to slog through the event again to get the achievements. And if they are having trouble with blocking bugs maybe they should be devoting more of their resources to fix those instead of putting out this unpolished content every two weeks.
EverquestNext is touting that it will be able to do the things Im asking for. If they pull it off I know where Ill be going.
My thoughts exactly SirMoogie. I like some parts of the invasions but I have not seen or heard of any consequences for failing the event. No consequences equals no gravitas. So in the end, who cares if the event fails. The only reason people are doing them is to get to the achievements and the monetary rewards. No consequences = no risk = less fun (not no fun, but less fun). Anet has the same problem with the dragon events. Good presentation, but very inconsequential. For me personally, this is the biggest problem this game has.
Also the game doesnt do much to show your accomplishment. I think you get a title if you finish the meta and I guess you could pretend that the world is still a safe place since you thwarted the invasion (although the world would be a safe place even if you did nothing since there are no consequences for letting it go). It would be nice if the npcs in were grateful to you for saving them and lowered commodity prices or did something to acknowledge the fact that you saved them from 13 invasions.
Lastly, although Anet did atleast add one mechanic to the fight, it could still use several more. Why cant the npcs be attacking one of the many cool garrisons on the various maps. Why do they have to just stand around in a spot waiting for your group to come along and smash them. And why cant we be killing them with other things besides our normal weapon rotations. I mean seriously, get creative. Put a lighting gun next to a river and let us shock the river with it and cause extra damage to the machines, you know, like you kind of do in the jellyfish fractal. Maybe let us have some arrow carts. Make this epic.
In short this game suffers from a serious lack of immersion. I hope they read these threads and have some ideas on how to make these things better because if they do this game could go on for years.
So, first off, good job. I almost like the new invasions that are happening every hour. The event rewards spreading out and working in small groups to accomplish a task. I was running around to hot spots where there werent commander tags and calling for 5 players to come and it helped to complete the event. It really felt like spreading out helped and I actually felt like my actions were making a difference. Based on past content that has been released, this seems to be a momentous achievement.
The enimes look cool and I like the clockwork mechanic. Its not much but it adds a little spice. Its nice. Also the rewards, for once, arnt too shabby. Though I suppose thats due to the champion update made last patch. But still, good job. Finally, I like the difficulty. There have been some invasions that my server have almost failed but manage to squeak by in the closing minutes. Overall, Id say Anet is half way there in regards to events.
Now Id like to touch on what could be better. First off, Event Failure. Now admittedly, I havnt witnessed an event fail. But you cant tell me StormBluff Isle has succeeded at every invasion. And I have not seen or heard of any consequences for failing the event.
Next up, is the fact that the game doesnt do much to show your accomplishment.

Thats all I have for now, thanks for reading. Sorry its a wall of text but when I say this game has potential, this is what Im talking about.
@zerotwo and kawrrlll.6249 Yeh, I did after the patch too and YES you can still stand in the back and spawn camp the plunderers. But hey Im not going to judge what you find fun. If you had fun well then you had… fun. I found it tedious and boring but hey different strokes for different folks I guess. You still didnt master it sounds like you got silver and yeh, since you had so much fun with it I question why you didnt go all the way and beat it. I think thats a fair question. But its cool. It really doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things.
And yeh kawrrlll.6249 I do hate fractals, and the few times Ive taken a poll in my pugs, they hate them too. Were all there doing them for the rings and 20 slot bags. I hate that there adding more ascended gear. Because they will probably stick some of it in fractals and force me to grind it even more to have the BIS gear. And yes I do love wvw and will stick to it. But I want to look good and have the best gear possible so that when I lose, I know it was my skill that cost me the match. Not because the other guy had a gear stat advantage over me. Even if that gear only gives you a 5% advantage I want it.
And yes, if my post sound serious, its because theres people like you out there who have such low expectations of whats good and whats fun, that allow Anet to keep cranking out crap. I dont see whats wrong with telling there stuff sucks when it does. And I beat it, and I got 3 skins. I got 2 pistols for my Engineer and the Hammer for my warrior. I didnt get it from the trials though. I played the oh so fun and skillful RNG boxes (I got a ticket and 10 scraps from the boxes, and I bought the hammer skin with gold)
By the way if you guys are so hard up for a challenge why dont you play wvw. Or do you. And if you do, well then why are you so hard up for a challenge? And dont tell me its a zerg fest cause you can solo roam plenty. Sure youll run into the occasional group that will roll over you but its no worse than being ran over by the acolyts on the cliffside fractal when one of your noob group members killed the targeted acolyte, or blasted in the control room of the dredge fractal while waiting on the thief to open the door, or wasted while your team mates try to burn down the door with the flame thrower, or knocked off a platform by a harpy in the uncategorized fractal for the millionth time, or midlessly pressing 1 while trying to kill the jellyfish in the Aquatic Ruins fractal, or running a bunch of wisps to the clefts in the swamp fractal (Ok I have a little fun with this one but the boss afterwards is just boring) OR OR getting hammer by a bunch of pirates that have zero mechanics, a bunch of health and power due to rediculous scaling, and crazy numbers.
Have I made my point?
@zerotwo, well if you didnt kill 50 then you really didnt complete it did you. You stood in the back and hacked the event like every other player myself included (I did it for both evon and kiel). And for your troubles you got a bunch of broken lockpicks, YAY.
You obviously didnt have too much fun if you didnt go back and try to really finish it. Part of that is becuase the really failed at that content. They should have given you a little something more than broken lockpicks the further along you got. That event was all or nothing and thats part of the problem. I sure as hell didnt go back after I got the achievments.
I personally have a warrior a fractal level 22 and a guard at fractal level 18. I stopped leveling the warrior because I plan on taking the guardian to the higher levels as they seem to be more needed. I wont be taking him passed level 26 though as there is no point. The mechanics dont change after level 20. They only make the enimies artificially tougher by giving them more HP and have them hit harder. If you think that is a real challenge then you should try playing other games that actually have AI like half life 2. Also the rewards for fractals dont get any better after 26. I know they say they are supposed to scale but they are full of it.
So seriously, whats the point in getting to level 48 in fractals. The challenge and the rewards are the same.
@zerotwo, Let me ask you a question. Did you complete the T4 candidate trials in a group of 5? And by complete I mean did you kill 50 Aetherblade pirates in a group of 5 (ill even accept it if you killed 50 of the solo and give you an internet high 5)? And if you did, did you find it fun?
Your right there is a demand for challenging content that requires skill and knowledge of the game mechanics. But so far what weve been handed is crap. And it sounds like you and a couple other people on this board want more fun cosmetic skins gated with crap.
@SalvinValkyries.4501 hey if its balanced and all you have to do is learn to play to beat the boss then by all means have the boss pass out cool skins and awesome rewards. But if its an untested piece of crap like the T4 candidate trials then absolutly not. There were several things wrong with that and ill elaborate on it if ya want me too but for now how about you just tell me how many skins you got from that piece of content
Infact anybody here, tell me, how many skins did you get from any of the candidate trials? Im not looking for a handout, Im looking for content that plays by the rules and is still challenging. Which is mostly why I stick to wvw.
Yay, thanks Anthony. Ill see if i cant get that torch and the mini. And the guantlet looks like fun. Maybe playing it will be its own reward.
Thanks Pinch, what set of weapon skins do the bags drop. Is it Sovereign?
So what do you actually get for competing in the guantlet besides achievement points. I know if you beat the tier 3 boss that there is a semi cool mini. I thought they said there would be weapon skins. Is it the sovereign skins listed here:
http://dulfy.net/2013/08/06/gw2-sovereign-weapon-skins-gallery/
If it is the sovereign skins then that would make me happy. Reason being is I dont feel really compelled to get them so if the content is too hard then I dont have to waste my time beating my head against the wall trying to get them like i did with the t4 candidate trials. That was horrible event scaling by the way Anet. Quite the tedious piece of content.
Thank god all you get for beating her is a mini and some chievo points. They could have done something stupid like stick a cool weapon skin behind it.
Ill have to get them both outfitted for wvw and see how they play. Right now there both pve speced. Im leaning towards warrior since they seem to have functionality during all parts of the battle. Im not sure what guards do when defending walls other than throw up wall of reflect and spam buffs for people. I need to look into this more.
Guess where you can go, where the events that scale to champions are non-stop. Southsun. All the camp events scale to champs and they refresh at a crazy rate. Maybe the karka queen event will begin to happen again.
@Khisanth I hadnt considered the magic find change. Thats an interesting hypothesis. Are you thinking that when everyone is running around with some level of magic find (as opposed to many running with none) that the number of lodestone drops will increase. That would be nice. I think people would need a significant amount of magic find to have an impact. Say, atleast 50%. It would be nice to get a dev comment. They never did go into detail about how they planned to address the lodestone prices.
Anyone think the prices of lodestones will be coming down. Right now there pretty expensive. I know there mainly used for cosmetic items but it would be nice to have a few of those.
I agree events need to be deeper and more involved. Make them more epic, make them world changing. Make them go beyond those 4 crappy southsun settlements. Make the impact felt in other zones. Anybody remember back all the way back to beta. Anybody remember those surveys they had in the beta about the events. They would ask you questions about the events and one of the questions was “did it feel like it impacted the world around you?” The answer I always gave was NO. NO NO NO. They have failed to make their dynamic events impactful. Make it feel like God kitten Sauron is building an army at freakin mount doom and if people dont stop him then divinities reach will fall to the blackness. Then when your rockin self comes along and stops him (or the Karka Queen, or whatever) Anets needs to make the town people remember you and how awesome you are.
I think the towns people remembering your actions and making stuff cheaper for you to buy from them or cheaper way point cost or whatever because of how awesome you were for saving them from impending disaster would be a good start. Hopefully they come up with something to further the reward system that deepens the story or the lore and doesnt make it give you more gear with higher stats on the armor or weapons or trinkets.
Thanks for reading.
TLDR; Anet please, make events more fun, like what you started doing back with the cursed shore.
LOL thanks for that Veritas. That settles it, im getting the new aetherized hammer with my ticket and making me a hammer warrior. I dont like having to respec all the time but after they nerf COF I shouldnt need my full zerker as much anymore. By the way is “Lords of Death” still around? I play on stormbluff isle. I know they said they were going to Darkfall but that game came out months ago. Did they come back by any chance?
Thanks Dand, I didnt think of it from the side of fighting on the walls. I do love long bow for those situations and I dont see a good way to deal with that on a guard. Well I suppose they can set up some arrow carts, but then again so could a warrior. Do the shouts heal just you or do they heal team mates as well?
It does appear that a warrior can not spread stability, protection, or aegis. It appears that a guard with a mace/shield combo along with shouts can pump out protection. But I dont see much CC in that setup. I guess its up to the warrior to knock peeps down and the guardians job to keep team members up.
Which is better at keeping the zerg alive and going in wvw, a guardian or a warrior. It seems the guardian has ways of healing the zerg with their staff and has some crowd control with their hammer. Also they have shouts and symbols that can give the zerg buffs.
Warriors seem to have more crown control with their hammer and utilities. Also they seem to have more hp so they can live longer (Im not sure about this since guards have AH and can keep their 15k hp pool up with shouts). They can buff the zerg a little with things like “for great justice” and maybe a banner (though zergs are usually on the move so im not sure if banners are very helpful)
Also if you had both classes fully geared who would you prefer to lead the zerg with incase you wanted to some day throw up that commander tag?
Thanks for the advice Saki. Looks like I need to study up on which I prefer. Too bad the price goes up, Id love to just hold on to this ticket until I figure our what play style I like the best
Hi guys, I have a question. What engineer weapon do you see the most while fighting. Ive heard that kits replace weapons alot so the pistol, or rifle your wielding goes away quite a bit.
I plan on making an engi very soon, especially since I recently obtained one of the aetherized weapon tickets but if i dont use my ticket soon the cost of the weapon will increase to 5 tickets.
By the way I would like this character to be a god at solo roaming in WVW. So thats my question. Given those criteria is there a weapon that I can use that actually get used and show up while fighting or should I just spend this rare ticket on the hammer to place on a different character?
@Jemmi.6058 “bi-weekly living story cadence” is not equal to big content updates every two weeks. Its one big content update a month at the begining of the month, followed by a minor living story update and a balance (big on some months, huge on others thank you @Navzar.2938) patch middle of the month.
IE: Secret of Southsun; Big content update, changed the way southsun looked and added events, hell it changed the way people farmed. The later may update added a small lving story update and did a balance patch.
Dragon bash; Huge content update with some living story in June; there were coffers to get from the holos, lots of achievments to grab, Lions arch was completly re-decorated, Lots of mini games were added (Now were they good mini games, not really but they still count as content). Later in June you got very little content added but you did get some living story stuff. the dungeon was a little cool but there was very little reason to run it more than once, unless your a die hard achievment freak. That patch was really about, surprise surprise the balancing. Noticing a pattern yet?
IE July comes along, we get a new zone, and new mini games, and more skins to chase after, small living story element. And now the latest patch. Guess what the big game changing things are, surprise surprise, the balance notes. you could argue that things you do in this patch will affect later patchs but as far as content in the here in now, the balance notes are the only thing to write home about.
So in summary the second half of the month content additions have been, may: fight canach in a small dungeon, june: fight some pirates in a medium sized dungeon (that aeather blade dungeon was no where near as big as the flame and frost one or any other dungeon in the game for that matter), July: we get 3 mini games instead of a dungeon.
So honestly, what were you expecting. Second of the month patches are for balance and they throw some fluff in to keep you playing till the next big content patch. I think its great and hope they continue with this formula.
You guys must be new to the game. The second patch of the month is the balance patch and not the big content patch. The content added is just there to keep people playing till the next real content patch is added on August 6th. They dont release major content additions every two weeks because if they did then a large majority of the player base wouldnt have time to finish the content they added previously.
Go check the balance notes, youll notice quite a bit of useful things added this patch. Jump over to the ranger, warrior, guardian forum and check out how happy they are. If your playing the game so much that your managing to burn through the content every two weeks, then in about two months youll have new gear to chase down in addition to new living world content. If you finish that then i suggest making an alt and gear him out in said new ascended gear.
Welcome to the game, glhf.
Can we please not start a thread titled “New Armor Skins” unless there are actual images of said armor.

Beat him on the third try the other night. I of course heard he was hard so I went to Dulfy and watched the guide which tells you to keep your health up early in the fight and use the calway buff (I totally butchered that name) when he uses Crituque. He never onced spammed his signature move. Just like Dulfy said you get on turn inbetween.
Nice game devs. It was challenging and a fun twist. Im glad we have people like Dulfy to do the hard work first so us poor saps who have limited play time can come along and get the achievements too. All thats needed is a little reading comprehension and a moderate dose of patience. Something American society is loosing day by day
I got 3 tickets, one from a rich coffer (bought about 50) and two from the coffers on the trading post (bought/opened 2000).
Heres a link to the Cantha themed weapons:
http://dulfy.net/2013/06/11/gw2-dragons-jade-weapon-gallery/
They come out of dragon coffers which are selling for around 1 silver 40 copper on the trading post. Enjoy.

@Player Character apparently he thought the engineer was using some sort of speed hack to keep up with him. If the Engineer was infact cheating and the warrior still killed him then awesome, props to the warrior. And if he wasnt cheating, well, then the warrior still killed him. Either way props to the warrior. Id complain about people cheating even if i killed them.
I think the point of the video is to illustrate how to play the Skull build which seems to be a decent build for roaming in WvW.
(edited by Savoy.6824)
Thanks @Forgotten One.
Anybody have any Idea what trait skills to take?
What traits do you choose stylo? Im guessing this works well for cof p1. I know you said 30/0/0/10/30. Are you taking duel wielding, slashing power, and berserksers might in the strength line?
Are you taking empowered in the tactics line?
And are you running signet mastery, sharpened axes, and heightened focus in the discipline line?
also what utilities if you dont mind me asking? Seems a lot of people bring banner of discipline, For great justice, and shake it off, and signet of stamina?
Thanks
heres the build for wvw:
and heres a video:
So since the june 25th patch hit what build are people going with for their CoF p1 warriors. I know Strifes build was cool before but its a little dated now. Are people going with mace for the main hand instead of axe now since axe 1 got the small nerf or does it even matter since most enemies stand there and let you hit them?
Thanks for any help.
Yep you can get the meta without jumping. Do the race, do the drinking game, talk to the people, watch teh quaggan show, do the kite baskets. Spekks lab requires jumping so dont do that one, so does the pig iron quary and griffen rook run so stay away from those too.
This new zone is awesome, needs to stay.
Well Mr Dusk your Scholar runes dont give much less critical damage (only 4% less) and the boost to power is nice, but Im just not sure if i can take advantage of the 10% damage part for very long. Ill have to try it someday. They are a little pricey but not as bad as divinity.
@DiogoSilva thx for the breakdown. I think im still going to try it out though. Sounds like it will just take a little time.
Heres the thing DiogoSilva, nobody has seen the stat numbers on the new armor. Divinity runes if you have 6 of them will boost your critical damage by 12% I highly doubt the new armor if you have all 6 pieces will boost it less than 12%
But if you have some info pleas share. Let me know the exact stats on the chest piece, then tell me about the legs, then move to the shoulders, then tell me about the gloves, boots, and helm.
Or if you have a theory please explain why you think the 6 pieces together would total less than 12% critical damage increase. It doesnt sound very plausible to me that they would only have a critical damage increase of 1% per piece. So if its a 2% increase well then there ya go it would be a 12% total increase which would be the exact same as dvinity. My reasoning is pretty sound. See if you can find any cracks in it.
@colesy there is a little room for the trash that comes with Celestial and Divinity. I wouldnt focus a build around it but if you want a little more survivability its ok. Heres a guy that does quite well with divinity runes and yes, I beleive that if he went straight damage he would lose some of these fights.
oh and heres his build posted in the video
But if your skilled enough to go all damage then by all means go full out damage.
I would think going Celestial armor with Divinity runes would be bad for my build (glass cannon thief) as it would take too much out of my damage. So I would prefer to have ruby orbs or some other rune that increases power and precision since that is an area of focus for me. I wanted the divinity runes to give me that little bit extra survivablity but instead now I think ill go with the armor. I have time but I dont have money. Since Im also trying to level my necro and finish my guardians armor.
Somebody should do that though. Get celestial armor, with celestial accessories, divinity runes and then for the hell of it grab some dragons revelry starcake and see if it makes a good build for some class.
@DiogoSilva, Divinity runes are the Celestial version of runes. They actually do not focus on critical damage they just boost it along with every other stat. So by your own reasoning Celestial armor would be an excellent choice for dps builds because it makes use of every stat. I would argue that you then need runes or orbs that focus on the power so that you will not be a jack of all trades and still be bursty.
According to spidey the price of runes is not dropping yet though so it would seem my initial speculation was incorrect. But oh well I am still right about the armor being a trade off.
So I have a warrior longbow build and I like it in wvw as I get a fair amount of badges. But I believe my ranger roommate with his longbow build gets more. Now this is tough to judge because we dont play always play at the same time and when we do we dont always run in the zerg together but it seems that when I run in the zerg I get about 20 badges an hour and I think when he runs with the zerg he gets about 30 to 40. If my goal is to get badges should I tweak my build, finish leveling my ranger, or roll a necro?
my build:
So they are introducing Celestial armor in tomorrow’s patch. Celestial is an all stats combo, something previously only found on Ascended accessories or trinkets (or in divinity runes, which cost an outrageous 8 to 9 gold)
It takes a 125 quartz to make one piece of of the new armor and it takes 5 days to refine those 125 quartz pieces so in total it would take 750 quartz pieces and 25 days to make a full suit. That’s a sizable amount of time to make a suit of armor but its nice to have an option because before if you wanted armor with all stat combos you had to spend about 54 gold
So if your like me and wanted a zerker suit of armor with all stat combos for runes you can switch it up and go all stat combo armor and then use ruby orbs to get the zerker stats. I guess this post is sort of a public service announcement to let you know that if you like all stat combo gear, you dont have to get screwed over by the trading post to get it
@Xenon.4537 and @Anyone who wants more ascended gear. Adding more gear with higher stats is a bad idea (what i really think is that any body who even suggest adding ascended gear should be drawn and quartered. Yes drawn by a horse across a field and then cut into little pieces) As other people have said a million times before you dont need more stats.
I know you think you do because you believe you need a reason to capture those 4 camps in southsun and then kill the karka queen because right now the reward is so crappy nobody wants to do it. I agree, Im one of those people who has on interest in doing that event because theres no point. The two rares and small as kitten chance to get a precursor are just not worth it. So whats the answer you ask?
The answer is to make it worth it, but not by adding cool armor to it. Make it more epic, make it world changing. Make it go beyond those 4 crappy southsun settlements. Make the impact felt in other zones. You know like that tried to do in the beta. Then when your rockin self comes along and stops him (or the Karka Queen, or whatever, please for the love of god use your imagination) Anets needs to make the town people remember you and awesome you are.
Also Im not a game designer, I dont get paid to think of all the awesome ways you can be rewarded for completing an event so again for the love of god, use your imaginations (those of you who care, I dont care that much because I have 7 alts and they all need to be geared so even though I play tons every week I have a long kittening way to go before I finish with the current content) and if the towns people remember your actions and making stuff cheaper for you to buy from them or cheaper way point cost or whatever because of how awesome you were for saving them from impending disaster. Whatever you come up with for the reward system, dont make it more stats on the armor or weapons or trinkets.
Thanks for reading.
TLDR; Anet please, make events more fun so people will stop asking for more gear treadmill
I gotta put in my vote for Storm Bluff Isle. Youll rarely have to wait in a que even for Eternal Battlegrounds and we hold our own in our match ups. We dont always win but we keep the matches close. I also disagree that the server is in a slow slide. We dropped out of Tier one before the free server transfer ended but weve been steady ever since.
Any way we have a good team speak server and most of the people on it are pretty mature. Oh and we actually are more of a PVE server so its kinda cool that we do well in WVW when the server’s focus is more towards PVE.
@Ixen Darastix if you makes you feel any better I missed the first Southsun event. The one where the actually launched southsun and a lot of people got precursors at. Which Im totally not bitter at all about. I mean Ive only been playing this game since beta and still dont have a legendary or any hopes of getting one until they finally quit dragging their feet with this kitten scavenger hunt. Sigh. I digress.
Anyway sorry you missed this event. Again if it makes you feel any better the helm in my opinion anyway, only looks good on large races and god forbid your norn has a cool beard cause apparently the teeth on the stupid helm shave that awesome manly beard right off and leaves your poor Norn looking like some straight laced shmuck.
Make them come out in waves. Take away the invulnerability and the extra hp and have them come out in three waves. That would be a much better solution
Also they dont need more heart power. They need to do what they did with the holloween event and have several waves come out. If they had more heart power then they would be killing champions like the stupid dolls from the wintersday event. Why Anet nailed it on the head with hollween and then tried to fix something that wasnt broken is beyond me.
What are candy prices right now? for some reason spidy doesnt list them.
