@SaltyDave A lack of heart quest in SouthSun is not why that zone was so dead before it was partially revitalized with guild rush, challenge and Karka Queen loot buff. The reason it was dead was because the events there were not profitable. Also the mobs there are somewhat tougher than other places so farming was better in other zones. Follow the money, and You’ll find the popular zones. Now, they have sorta boosted the loot from Karka Queen and guess what, people go there once a day to kill her just like Teq in sparkfly.
If they dont give the new zones fun events or a way to make them profitable, guess what they will be dead too, but it wont be for a lack of those foolish heart quests.
With the arrival of new zones, will there now be more to do to obtain the “Been there, done that” title or will they not count towards it like South Sun? I would prefer a dev answer over player speculation.
Just wanna say thanks to all the devs who are keeping us in the loop on this issue. I can guarantee you that people do appreciate all the communication and you can go to reddit if you want to see it. I know you may see some of the vocal minority chiding you on the updates you are giving but keep it up cause it goes along way to killing the angst that issues like this cause. I only wish you were as vocal on other issues such as the inablility to salvage ascended rings as you are with this one.

@eekzie.5640 except with dungeons you get gold and mats that you can trade at the bazaar for tokens. Now I know your going to try to make the argument that the spvp reward tracks give out money and materials too but come on, lets be real. Those reward tracks give out about 1/4th of the stuff that a 5 min run of CoF gives out.
Oh Im going to laugh so hard if they left out SPvP again. Anet’s reward team never can seem to remember they have that game mode.

That was a really nice write up Mr. Gee and I really appreaciate the explination but at the same time I have to wonder if we couldnt have gotten a little more notice. Using this current release as an example, why would it have hurt to tell us “we have some new content coming for you before the end of the month” Something simple like that contains no spoilers and doesnt give a specific date. So we dont know if were getting potatoes or yams and we dont know exactly when dinner will be but what we do know is that the table has at least been set.
As it stands, its like we’ve been off playing in the mud (other games) and you have told us dinner is in 15 minutes. It would be nice to have time to take a shower and put on some nice clothes (farm some gold, finish up achievments in WvW, get that balthy backpiece) before dinner.

How about if they add Maguma Desert? Does that count? And what if they add it as part of a living world release and include a new dragon raid in the Tequatl format along with it? At that point will living world still suck, be fair, be good, or be great? Try not to use definitives. Life is usually gray not black or white.

When I say launch I mean the actual launch that is three months away at the least. This is just the beta for China.
So here’s an assumption so take it for what its worth. Beta for us lasted about 3 months then the game went live. I imagine we in the EU/US will get started on our next living story thing sometime in the next month or two. So will the Chinese pop in smack dab in the middle of some new story arch? They wouldnt make us wait till the Chinese launch to see the next chapter of Living Story would they?
So what do the Chinese players see when they go into Lion’s Arch? Is it destroyed for them?

Just want to chim in and say that I too have had terrible luck with loot in fractals (personal level is 45) and though I like this game mode, I just cant justifiy doing it when so many other parts of the game give me the resources I need to play the other game mode I like (WvW). I would much rather run fractals over dungeons to get my weekly allowance but its just doesnt pay the bills.
While were here, are we ever going to be able to salvage rings? I also dont have any more room in my bank for more useless ascended rings.
This has been asked for by a handfull of people. In order to get a different response other than “No” which is what they have said more than once, its going to take more than a forum thread.

All I know is I level my alts by playing dungeons on my face roll guardian and then at the end I switch to what ever alt and bada-bing, hello level up. This change has impacted me about 0%. Now well see how I feel when my guild trys to do missions on sunday how much I like these mega servers

What is the lockdown ranged shatter build you speak of sendmark? I agree PU is slow and not as much fun in spvp.

I’m not sure the point of all these threads if the above hasn’t been stated.
Sorry I didnt read all six pages but the new trait system is beyond great. Its fantastic and heres why: Theres this little thing called verticle progression. Its where your character gets stronger and stronger usually by equiping better gear. After a while equiping better gear gets old, because it doenst add any new mechanics to the game it just raises your stats by some arbitrary number. And then it super sux when the devs add in ascended gear that takes forever to get and is super expensive. Its a massive grind to craft to 500 to be able to make that crap.
Now in come traits. Traits are horizontal progression. They are good, the opposite of sux. They dont make your character stronger they add new mechanics and make him different. They give the player something to work towards if they have gotten tired of what they were doing before.
TLDR; Stupid players grind gear that gives them a stat boost, smart players look for different ways to play the game and accomplish their objectives. Dont fill GW2 with stupid people, keep adding more traits and have us work to get those instead of gear.

The biggest problem is a lack of patch notes which they could release right this second, or in the case of other patches, a lack of a release page.
Thx for the all the info guys. In my uninformed opinion, I wish they were a part of our economy. I think they may drive some staple prices down.
So when China can finally play the game will us North American players get to trade with them? Will they be contributing materials to the game that we can buy such as orichalcum?
Will this armor show up in our pve wardrobe now? Will we still be able to craft it after the 15th or do we have to get it done before. Can we craft it in pve now?
Any devs out there know or have any suggestions for us regarding ascended rings that dont have stat combos we like. What can we do with them?
So what has happened…. well basically not much. They made Lions Arch a useless zone. They failed to realize that destroying a zone is only fun if you get to help rebuild it. You missed out on some skins, and a chance to get cheap silk, thats the sum of what you missed. There are some quality of life things coming on the 15th but nothing that will make the game more fun to play.
There is hope though. I think that by creating this megaserver thing they will no longer be afraid to create new zones for us to explore. I believe in the past they were scared that if they added new zones everyone would flock to them leaving the old zones empty. Now there will atleast be 15 people in those old zones when and if they make new ones.
And I believe the next arc of the living story will do just that since it has been hinted that the new dragon will be over in the maguma waste. So if you liked the game before (basically grownup barbies) get ready for that to be better than ever.
Dang that means I have to continue my boycott of fractals. Which also means I dont have much reason to play this game. Lots of nice quality of life changes coming up but all they really do is make playing easier. Oh well, I guess theres always the next feature patch.
Any news on when well be able to do something with all the ascended rings sitting in our banks from running fractals?
I like the booster exchange merchant idea. Thats a great idea actually.

HAHA, all those speculators that bought up grapes thinking they would cash in. What a joke.
Its rude to not respect peoples time. Their content should stand on its own without hype. I believe there are plenty of kids (even some adults who are new to video games) out there who have enjoyed this content, because they have never seen or expirenced anything like this. But for those of us who have been around games for a long time this is old hat, and it would have been nice to know that ahead of time. As opposed to telling us that one of the living world patches would bring the things I listed above in my orginal post.
So after 4 living world updates we do not have a new pve zone, we do not have emergent A.I. We dont have destructable environments. No housing and no guild halls. To be fair we do have 1 zone that has been re-skinned (lions arch) and we have a new world boss that you get to stand around for an hour trying to get into an overflow for a chance at some blues and greens. Also it looks like we have another of these world bosses on the way.
Now I know, I know the feature patch coming in April is still to come. And I know they didnt promise the living story would bring new gameplay, but they sure made it sound like it would and now its over. So my question is when is my core going to start feeling some tremors around here.
Also I would like to suggest that you, ANET, be better about advertising your content. It would have been nice to know back in December that no new pve zones, game play mechanics, or player generated content would be coming out until April.

Why are none of the devs discussing the over abundance of ascended rings. There have been several proposals around these but not any comments by the devs on those proposals. Are they not helpful?

Goal of Proposal
Give us a way to switch our builds easily. I know you guys want to challenge us by having us work as a team and I get that you are trying to design content that forces us to think about what builds we bring to the dungeons but we dont have a way to change those out easily. I think you could have fractals like the dredge where you have tanky classes stand on plates and play a bunker roll if we had a way to switch to that type of load out when we got there.
Proposal Functionality
It would be best if it were a new interface piece that let us save builds and when you select your “Tank Build” if it auto-magically switched up your traits and armor. Would be fantastic if it pulled the armor from a locker, but at this point Ill settle for having to carry it around in my inventory. You can also leave weapons up to us, we can switch our weapons up, but again if you want to be totally awesome you can add that in the automatic switch as well.
If you even want to go the lame hot fix route you can sell us an unlimited trait resetter in the gem store. I know you already have a limited one there. Heck make it charge us everytime we use it like the copper fed salvage omatic does if the gold sink is that important. And then we can just swap our armor and retrait our skills ourselves
Bottom line, let us change our armor and traits without leaving the fractal so you guys can design more varying content to keep us on our toes and a fun game mode will be even more fun.

Just wanted to state the obvious real quick: We need to be able to do something with ascended gear that we get rewarded but dont need; ie we should be able to sell them, or salvage them, or trade them in for something of value. Any of the above options or all three if you want to be awesome.
Also we should be able to buy weapons and armor with tokens just like we can with accessories. Im not sure why this wasnt implemented on day one. If its against company policy can you explain why?

Will there be any compensation for those of us on SBI who have rescued several tiers of citizens and missed out on the bag rewards. Those bags have the hard to find heirlooms in them and it would be super nice to have those so I can go grab that halo potion. On SBI last night we rescued 1000 citizens. That would have been at least 4 heirlooms.

If your trying to point out that they destroyed a city for “gold and greens” then don’t use falicious statements that don’t support that argument. It makes you look like an idiot. I never said this patch was full of new game modes and deep story is, I just pointed out how incredibly wrong you were about the balance changes.
Guess reading comprehensions isnt your strong suite. They said the balance patch would come with the feature patch. Theyve said it about 10 times now in multiple places. The feature patch is coming about a month after the living story finishes. Probably on april 15th.
