The on crit CD has no effect on the on swap CD and vice versa. Different sigils no longer share cooldowns. A major and a superior are still considered to be the same sigil for cooldown sharing.
TY Khisanth! That answers my question
1st weapon set:
Axe: “on crit” sigil (CD 5 secs)
Warhorn: “on swap” sigil (CD 9 secs)
2nd weapon set:
Staff:
SAME “on crit” sigil (CD 5 secs)
SAME “on swap” sigil (CD 9 secs)
Crit chance: 60%
==
My question:
With a high crit chance I expect the “on crit” sigil to be triggering often and nearly always on CD.
Does that mean the “on swap” sigil would be a poor choice, because the chance of it actually triggering during a weapon swap while it WASN’T on the “on crit” CD is very low?
I suppose I could just count 5secs after the last “on crit” trigger, or even stop attacking for 5 secs, but that’s just silly :P
Edit: I just remembered that swapping weapon sets during battle has a 10 second cool down anyway. This should be enough for the “on crit” sigil of the 1st weapon set to have finished it’s cooldown by the time you can swap back to it (allowing the “on swap” sigil to be triggerable).
Can anyone confirm?
(edited by Scientia.8924)
Anyone know? Can someone from Anet chime in?
This is my 3rd attempt at trying to get any kind of help from support:
When I press the [Buy] button to exchange gold for gems in the Currency Exchange, the window will gray slightly, but no confirmation window ever pops up. It doesn’t matter whether it’s for 2000/1200/800/400/Custom Exchange amounts.
I’ve tried reinstalling the game, doing the -repair command line, and disabling my firewall & AV (it’s a stretch but a random person said the GS/CE/TP possibly works via port 80/html).
Does the Currency Exchange depend on anything special, like Flash or Java to be installed? I am totally out of ideas.
I am wondering if gem prices are dropping because there are a lot of other players experiencing the same problem and aren’t post anything.

Is is possible to change LShift for linking?
Currently I have LShift bound for Dodge. Here’s what happens during WvW/PvP:
1. I dodge while using a skill and the game thinks I’m trying to link my skill (ex: “[Arc Lightning]”)
2. This activates the chat window
3. Further number presses do not activate my skills but rather type into the chat window (ex: “[Arc Lightning]11112345”)
4. I die in combat because no skills are activating
It’s incredibly annoying.
If there is no option, all I’m asking is a bind option for linking under Control Options. Thanks.
Only come back if you plan on playing toons made before April’s patch.
Otherwise, you will be very frustrated with how grindy character progression has become
(ex: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Game-Updates-Traits/page/57)
No sympathy for Anet here, they knew EXACTLY what they were doing – forcing the gold-to-gems in beyond stupid oversized bulk. (Hint: If you want a good goldsink Anet, fix the trait system so creating new characters is actually fun)
The community realized their intentions 5 seconds after clicking on the Gem Store. Either Anet is playing you guys for fools or they are not playtesting anything before implementation (for which they have been accused of in the past)
While it’s good that they’re doing something about it, it shouldn’t have happened in the first place
I’ve read (and reread) everything posted and have taken it all into account. Time to start this long process, with still a lot more guide reading to be done. Thanks for the help everyone!!
Hi all,
I’ve decided this week to spend all my gold (~1300g) on starting and maxing all crafting disciplines. I have 8 level 80s, one of each profession. Having said that, I’m not doing it for XP but still want to set it up in the most logical way:
Engineer – Huntsman, Leatherworker
Necro – Jeweler, Tailor
Warrior – Armorsmith, Weaponsmith
Elementalist – Artificer, Chef (My main, I’d like to craft foods right before WorldBosses/EOTM/Dungeon runs and then do rare salvage==>luck refining immediately after)
My questions are:
1. Does the above setup look correct or is there a more efficient way (i.e. Jeweler/Tailor better on Mesmer b/c they’re more desired for dungeons completion? Does this even matter? I chose Necro since Hearts completion seemed much easier with it.)
2. Regarding Craftable-Only heavy armor/weapons, will any of those be soulbound to my Warrior, or can I later give them to my Guardian? (My Guardian is my 2nd main rare farmer, so for convenience/simplicity I’d like just low level Artificer on it for all the rare salvage==>luck refining)
Thanks!!
Often I’ll see players in PvE who appear intelligent (dodge well, weapon swap to range) but are just hilariously underpowered at their level, and I wonder if their gear is just trash or they didn’t bother unlocking (or are not even using) any of their traits
The way we choose to build our characters should NEVER depend on the generosity of other players helping us out.
I have a guild couple who couldn’t try a build they wanted for at least 2 weeks because they couldn’t successfully complete Temple of Balthazar both Sundays they logged on.
1. Yes, we had some guildies help, and it still failed.
2. These people work during the week and don’t have patience/time/energy to try multiple times in a sitting.
Also…
Anet: YOU ARE LOSING POTENTIAL $$$ / NOT PROFITING WHEN YOU COULD BE because many players refuse to create new characters under this trash Trait system. The frustration is not worth it.
Until this is fixed:
1. Not going to create any new characters
2. Not going to spend any $ on gems
3. Not going to participate in open world PvE
4. Not going to recommend this game
I will, however, continue to farm Edge of the Mists and world bosses for Scrolls of Knowledge (and rare skins, fun for me actually). The current trait system is boring, tedious, and it’s pretty atrocious how long Anet has been playing the waiting game on us.
If he’s only saying this now then it’s surely not getting changed in the feature patch.
Yeah the timing seems a little suspicious to me…I doubt they could review all the collected feedback (starting NOW?), decide on a change and then implement those changes that quickly.
Then again, if they can’t, oh man is it going to be bad when those patch notes come out September lol.
For those attending Gamescom (August 14-17) or knows someone who is, please ask Anet on camera (or if there’s a Q&A) what they intend to do about this
A simple “Nothing” answer is better than what they’ve been doing – ignoring the community and not acknowledging ANY of our feedback on this for the past months
@Ascimator.6735
1. Irrelevant point because the majority of traits are not simple+stat modifiers that are found on armor sets.
2. YMMV. Though I will say you are in the minority when compared to the other 1400 posts.
3. Irrelevant point – this is an MMO, not an offline single player game. How do you think Anet pays for all the ongoing 24/7 server upkeep and employee labor in a game without subscription fees? If they don’t retain players, they are paying out of pocket.
(edited by Scientia.8924)
Is anyone even listening at anet? Seriously. Argument after argument is laid out for you and yet nothing. It is CLEAR this was a bad decision. Just deal with the failure. Please fix it.
Agreed, they are delusional if they think these changes are good in the long term, in fact screwing with the core character progression experience was hands down the worst decision they made with the game.
The new content is a temporary fix to a problem that is causing the player base to dwindle.
Like others, I’ve left plenty of feedback outlining exactly why this system does NOT promote PvE and how players are circumventing it.
I’m done with this game and with being ignored by this company.
(edited by Scientia.8924)
Agreed, DPS is only thing people care about, because tagging = loot, dead enemies don’t damage you, dodging will solve 99% of your mistakes and condition stacks are capped.
You’d have to change all those factors before DPS takes a back seat, but don’t count on it happening.
Fix all the broken crap before introducing brand new stuff.
…Unless the brand new stuff fixes all the broken crap, then definitely!
PvE: GS guardian. What’s easier than never dying to mobs b/c of boons and heavy armor? Creating those mobs by pulling everything towards you. Talk about saving time…
WvW: Personally, I LOVE Longbow Ranger for versatility. S1: super long range attacks vs. mob and killing wall NPC/siege. S2: burst DPS. S3: Stealth escape. S4: push=fall kills and emergency escape. S5: area denial (players often think it’s AC fire and avoid it like the plague). You’ll never need to swap weapons.
PvP: Don’t care for it, especially since people can just swap to counter your build or run griefing turtling builds anyway.
By far, the most important Pro to Disease is that it punishes zerg gameplay
Anet has been fairly good at its anti-griefing measures in GW2 so this won’t happen unfortunately
A much simpler anti-zerg change would be to instead promote communication for smaller teams i.e. Correctly implement Squads and maybe different colored tags. It’d avoid a rebalancing nightmare as well
With the trait patch when they said it would increase experimentation, they were either blatantly lying (way to treat your customers Anet) or it shows how little they understand their game and how this trait patch would decrease experimentation.
Either one would be very worrying.
Indeed, and the lack of communication isn’t helping. At this stage, even if tomorrow they came out and undid the whole thing, it would still be a case of “Thanks, but would it really have hurt to say SOMETHING in the last two and a half months?”
I love the game, but despite pouring huge amounts of money into free content (which I also love), ANet are still managing to make me feel like I’m not valued as a customer. Literally paying one person to spend a couple of hours on the forum and giving some insight would fix this.
Of course the usual response is that “People will always find a reason to complain.” Well, yes they will, but that isn’t a justification to give them legitimate reason to do so.
Agreed, Anet asks for feedback from the players but screws them over by introducing a major catch to it, under the premise “well, you guys did ask for change”. The easiest implemented is usually permanently changing item/currency availability.
The dumbest part is they took the hardest ‘currency’ in the game to acquire (in that Skills Points are unbuyable/untradeable), and applied it to SLOW DOWN the most important aspect to ANY player, in ANY game – sense of progression.
Why don’t we make 4 year college degrees take 8 years instead? Students will feel MUCH more accomplished in the end, right?
If you’re going to ask for feedback, the next logical step would be to check back with the community before you finalize that change. Players kittened at the current trait system and leaving GW2 for other games could have been avoided.
Players are watching carefully what will happen tomorrow. Unfortunately no feedback up to now means we should assume 1. They’re not changing traits yet or 2. They’ll change it but twist what we asked for again for the THIRD time
Anyone who has done EOTM will have more than enough stacks of these lol
The only next gen anything this game should be on is dx11 (and even that is questionable)
You mean DX12.
Haha there was meant to be sarcasm in that post considering what had happened but yeah technically next gen nowadays is dx12
Its kind if funny that the chat filter is so sensitive but the name filter is not. I’ve seen some hilariously vulgar names – but to be fair they weren’t in English or were too phonetic to catch.
The only next gen anything this game should be on is dx11 (and even that is questionable)
Sorry can’t recommend another mouse… since the MX510 is the best I’ve ever used lol
I bound Forward to auto run and Back to jump. Let’s me do map exploration while eating a sandwich (seriously). Dodging is bound to Left Shift
I’m actually really curious what uses players have found for additional mouse buttons in this game considering GW2 isn’t inventory heavy
lol logged in gw2 while back to see whats new and saw the traits
and quit gw2
later peeps >,>I trying so hard not to…
I logged in today on my fourth day of absence from the game, took a deep breath, sucked it up… and went after just one trait… Just one… I went to befriend the Hylek in EBG. Should be simple, right? Five deaths and 1 hour 20 mins later, I FINALLY got it done because people kept killing me and recapping them and nobody would help me.
In case I’ve not kicked this horse into being dead enough…
I hate this…
I HATE IT! HATE IT! HATE IT!
It’s not a dead horse if the negative consequences to gameplay are still there.
Two months later and many guildies still actively refuse to create new toons. The enjoyment of creating new toons was what kept them coming back to open world PvE – that’s over now.
Mention trait unlocks in Lions Arch today and people are still super kittened
I think a lot of players are waiting to see if Anet addresses traits with the July 1st update before deciding to bench GW2 and play other games for the summer
It’s possible that Anet could some of the trait requirements to draw players to the new areas, but don’t count on it since that would only make dead PvE areas even deader.
Don’t expect any kind of meaningful Trait experimentation until you are dozens of hours in as a level 80 and have unlocked some. Yes it’s that bad.
Many Traits buff based on which types of Skills are equipped, so in that aspect Skills are much more important (and luckily you can unlock some quickly by capping SP – don’t waste SP on Traits)
Fingers crossed that there’ll be a trait system overhaul either this week or with the July 1 LS update. Ignoring this won’t make it go away, ANET.
^ Agreed. The July 1st update containing changes to the trait unlock system will determine whether me and my friends bother playing his game this summer, or just move on to one of the dozen other games weve bought this summer Steam sale.
Correct, Healing Power used on yourself is completely underwhelming and possibly the least helpful stat of all. But Healing Power on an ele running water support in WvW battles is an absolute godsend for everyone else.
You can always buy the ones you don’t want to traipse all over for. /shrug
This. I don’t really understand, it’s just a couple gold to buy a trait. Just buy the ones you want, is that so freaking hard?
If one decides to ‘instantly’ unlock the traits , the problem isn’t the gold. Hell my 9 year old nephew can farm the 45g in a single day. The problem is the absolute ridiculous cost in skill points (360 per character).
It’s both hilarious and a slap in the face to players that Anet actually was proud to offer this as an alternative that didn’t ‘force’ us to do it through the events, etc. way
Kids are on summer break and some have nothing to do but farm gold for the next two months.
You better believe the price for gem exchange is going to go much higher. Don’t even have a glimmer of hope it’ll go down – it wont.
Can’t tell if serious, trolling, or batsht crazy
About a little more than half a gold per boss sounds accurate for me (Magic Find 150).
There are better ways to farm for gold, definitely, but that depends on how much time you can play without being interrupted.
Players farm the bosses for other reasons besides gold though.
If you decide to incorporate it into legit PvE gameplay and not JUST farm bosses all day long, use an ingame boss timer overlay to completely eliminate downtime.
This would be a welcomed change and I can’t imagine how they could screw this up.
Realistically it’d be a gemstore only item because we all know how bad this game needs gold sinks.
Don’t care much for this personally, but if it is implemented it would only be allowable with lvl 80 characters that have completed their Personal Story since there’s no way of determining what branch you’re supposed to be following.
But by then, what the heck is the point of switching races?
Further elaborating on the consequences of this bad system:
1. Lower level zones will be MORE empty in the long run because slowly more and more players are refusing to create any more toons. Instead of playing from the ground up again they spend 100% of their time in end game content.
2. This is costing Anet real money sales. For example, my friends and I were willing to spend money on more character slots for the summer but are no longer going to because of how tedious it is to actually experience new classes.
3. Anet is losing a very important gold sink which stabilizes the in game economy. They should have remembered that a gold sink’s effectiveness is multiplied my the number of characters a player owns..
For example, if I love being commander and want to buy it for all future characters, that would have been 800gold taken out of circulation…but since I’m no longer going to make that many characters, that gold is going to accumulate and contribute to inflation.
So let’s try to determine the consequences of changing trait requirements:
1. If you remove the SP cost but raise the gold prices, gold sellers become even more valueable and sought after by players. Players continue on their mains farming world bosses instead of contributing to the actually open world experience.
2. If you remove the gold cost but raise the SP cost (which is already stupid high), it will only prolong the amount of time players are spending farming SP scrolls in eotm/wvw.
3. If you remove the gold and SP cost all together but make the open world requirements any harder, don’t ever expect to see those players again.
Unlocking traits needs to be as quick and unobtrusive as possible, because it is100% COMPLETION of all these that get players back into PvE the fastest, NOT the fact you are forcing us to be present there.
I want to spend my skill points on SKILLS. That’s why they’re called skill points.
That would mean designing and balancing more skills, eff that. Easier to put existing content behind a new artificial wall and name it a feature.
I’m talking about new players/characters for this who are going for level 80. They will simply not have enough to buy all this crap and the skills they want… meaning the road to level 80 will be nearly traitless.
This is exactly what players are doing. Power leveling to 80 in WvW/EOTM and THEN go back to open world PvE to do Personal Story.
This is because capping traits is so disruptive to the flow of Personal Story that players would rather go traitless and instead compensate with higher stats and exotic gear.
Being level 80 is MUCH more important than having traits because max level armor defense allows me to access any location on the map without dying in one hit. Access to the entire map means my friends and I can have fun doing anything we want.
If there is no incentive to unlocking traits at the appropriate level when it is both more important and faster to power level in a fraction of the time, this current system is pointless.
Make the requirements achieveable exactly when we want to do them, and not waste our time begging for other player cooperation or randomly zoning for events that don’t run on timer.
Requirements need to be quick, predictably available, and not depend on random player cooperation.
With the mega server it doesnt matter at all where you are for PvE.
Unless you happen to want the GUILD BUFFS.
To be fair whenever I want guild buffs I simply teleport to either Lions Arch, Edge of the Mists spawn, or Cursed Shore. Only takes a minute to ask where they are
Best: Leveling experience
Worst: Trait unlocking
Fix the broken stuff and annoyances that have lasted since GW2 release (like no Armor class filter in TP) before you add more stuff
Remember when Anet thought WvW would be the next esport?
(Not gonna happen unless they implement Squads and different colored commander tags)
Changes to trait system!
Just kidding, not expecting that at all.
To be honest I have no idea what to expect, since the new Living Story mechanics are still kind of vague.
The basics of Ritualist class were used to create the Engineer. If we ever see the Ritualist again, it will be totally different from GW1.
This. I loved playing Rit in GW1, but I have to admit the idea of spamming static defenses is not a good idea if you want fun, dynamic gameplay
I always thought that Divinity’s Reach would have been amazing as Lion’s Arch, although the location isn’t central. Anyway it makes sense what they did so they could change LA as they please to fit with whatever they want to do with Living Story.
No one is forcing you to read this forum, leave if you can’t handle it. Also, reread the post if you missed the point of it.
Anyway we’ll never be able to prove the guy was a griefer, and I doubt he’ll ever be punished. If it’s a public instance, prepare to deal with conditions that are out of your control.
Would it be easier to just replace ‘Unique’ with ’Only one copy of this item is equipable ’? Needs to be a little more concise though…
There is nothing ‘common sense’ about Unique being restrictive to only one equip. All it indicates is rarity.
If it related to rarity it would say “unique” on legendary or ascended weapons/armour, it doesn’t.
Funny that you talk about common sense and then make the same mistake you’re trying to put other people down for. I’m not talking about loot Rarity in that post, and wouldn’t even make sense in that context since Exotics and below don’t share the same equip characteristic.
There is nothing ‘common sense’ about Unique being restrictive to only one equip. All it indicates is rarity.
Anet has been adding dozens of tooltips in their latest patches. An additional warning should be easy to implement.
Haha agreed, I feel like the lesbian relationships in this game were an annoying attempt to appeal to what’s going on in the US, without the actual struggle and doesn’t add to the story whatsoever. Aka because..lesbians! Kissing!
