I agree with all Ventari said, they are measured changes, forcing a warrior to take 20points to get +50% crit when stunning is perfectly acceptable – think of it along the lines of other profession defining Master Traits like Deceptive Evasion and Terror. Base Condi damage is also quite high especially when mixed with burning but I kinda think all damage needs a bit of a toning down.

I understand and share Ventari’s dislike about knowing you dodged every important skill versus a zerker and losing to weak condi application – number of times in the duel server where Poison and Mug have been the most damaging attacks or Bleedng and Torment from a Power Necro. Condis should be as ineffective for Power specs as Power is for Condi – eg. watch a condi spec trying to kill an AR engi.

To begin with I am Ventari (r52) and top 50 in the leaderboards and playing PVP since release without any stops that have lasted for more than 3 weeks, so I really know what is going on in the PVP section of Guild Wars 2. And currently I became even more frustrated than I was after the so-called “balancing patch”.

1.) Burning Problem!
Whenever I check my deathbreakdown, I see that I got most dmg from burning dealing about 20k-30k dmg and then there is a far distance and I get damage from other skills, mostly conditions which is really annyoing, eventhough I am playing necro. And the very simple reason for it is, that the base damage of this condition is far too high. Why would I get most damage from burning in a duell against a hammer/longbow warrior with berzerkers amulett?? It is not as if they get most damage from the direct damage of the attacks of my scepter as well??
Solution: Let the conditions scale more (and I mean a lot more) with condition damage and decrease the damage done by it by the same amount so the damage stays the same for condition classes and is only lowered for glasscannon classes.

I don’t think a breakdown sheet should be how someone guages “OPness” but that’s just me.

You guys think burning is bad, you probably haven’t seen Torment thieves yet.

I’d love some more thief gameplay with slowmo. I’ve tried thief a little bit (your build, and a more stealth-oriented one) but I always find myself melting way too fast as soon as someone looks at me funny, at least with a Berserker amulet. Shamefully enough, I even got downed by the trainer NPCs a couple times when I first tried it…

How do you manage to avoid damage / stay alive so well?

A thief video with exactly that content will be up in some hours

Heheh that one was pretty hilarious! The build you’re using is extremely different from meta builds but you made it work well. You’ll like playing around with engineers more, there are a ton of builds waiting to be discovered.

I already said “thank you” but it doesn’t explain how awesome your videos are and how great they are to guide a player to skill and success!
Always when I see a new video where you play your mesmer I watch it and analyse the differences between your gameplay and my gameplay.

Let’s see what you changed in my gameplay:

• positioning: You explained what you do and how you choose your position in a fight. I just started to take your advices and was able to survive longer, spike harder and also to support better! (awesome)
• overview: A thing that followed my improved positioning in the combat was that now I’m able to have the whole fight in my view. A thing I really benefit from!
• skill usage: when to use which skill is a problem I’ve had in some situations. Your videos just explain it perfectly and extremly improve my gameplay.

Theese are just a few examples I could tell from my own gameplay. I think if I’d made a before-after-video I think I’d find even more improvements that I got thanks to you.

The only thing I dislike is that I always play against rank 0-20 players (rarely rank 30+) because I’m still at rank 13 (I don’t want to farm ranks. I dislike it.). Is there any way to get myself in games with stronger opponents? I don’t think it’s enough practice playing against low experienced players. Thanks to you I know how to play and I’d like to test it against better players… in a few matches I could even win 1v3 -_- I think that wasn’t my own skill but the lack of experience/skill my opponents had :<

About the rank…i guess you are talking about solo q…well i only see one way …you have to win a decent amount of times and then you will rank up in the ladder and face better players. I don’t think it has anything to do with your pvp rank since I had to play against really good enemies on an account somebody borrowed me and there I only was rank 7

It appears he only shows viable tpvp builds at the moment. I think the main take aways here are skill/play at high lvl tpvp with viable builds.

You can test other builds in hotjoin, anything works there lol.

Condi is not tpvp viable, and interrupt/lockdown really isn’t either. Phantasm could be viable, and other good mesmers have tried (saatercony) but really ins’t mainstream, and not really in this meta.

zombify i understand that as being one of the best (if not the best necromancer NA) it is hard to accept that there are other good necromancers out there as well …we have been playing with ventari in our team for over a year now and we are in the top 40 in EU for quite some time now..he has shown his skill in duels, tournaments and scrims we did
he has a good tactical way of thinking and knows exactly how to react in difficult situations (deathshroud stomping someone while fearing someone that attempts to stomp me etc etc etc) also he has a huge knowledge about all the other classes as well and how to play against them
there are some great other necromancers out there in EU as well but i would still count ventari to the top and i am sure others will agree

Ok since i sound like i come off as an a**hole, ill try to explain my view. Let me start off first by saying leader boards don’t mean anything so i would not omit that as proof. They are too bugged with the way MMR/setup is to be a solid scale to judge skill. I know for a fact most “top teams/players” dont even care for them ( SYNC included). When i ask for proof, i mean tournament proof/team proof. I dont mean to come off as i view myself being the only necro in the world hahaha. My other problem with your post is it seems you just keep promoting a ton of videos. Comes off as self promotion instead of aiding the community since you have SO many threads. Idk, that’s just me. As you will notice i have a reputation when i really do no self promotion pretty much. I let my play/tournament attendance speak for me. I am sorry but just watching the videos i feel there could be better players being shown. I am 100% for helping the community though with guides. Anyway, best of luck and i realized my previous post seemed scumbaggish

I used the leaderboard as a “proof” (even tho i know it is buggy) because i don’t really have a gameplay of ventari in tournaments on my computer which is really a shame but since i respect your opinion and i also think we can help others i will try to convince him to record footage while he is playing with the team..the problem is that his fps drop hard while using fraps (mine do as well but my computer is a lot better so i can still play)
Hm i don’t really use my threads etc as a self advertisment – what do i get from it? money? – no recognition ingame – maybe, which is nice but that’s really not what i aim for
in this post i am just promoting my solo q videos in which i am trying my best to explain everything to new players especially while using slow motion (working on every single video for about 3-4 hours in total (no joke))

his last vid was the best so far, I strongly advice any player on every skill level to see his friend necromancer playing while sensotix has edited and putted some scenes in slow motion, this is the best feedback you can get on any class while you are playing, it exacly explains in the POV of the character what he is doing.

As a reminder it takes sensotix 3-4 hours + to make this vid and this is not only feedback for the players but also for the devs .

I have to agree with aspirine… Every time I think I have mastered and tried everything about mesmer, there is even more surprises as to their capabilities. Every time this happens, I have to feel the shame of how truly amateur I am, even after countless hours of play, research and configuring, it never seems enough. I get worried about focusing on it too much, because therein lies a hidden obsession waiting to consume me.

But same happens to me..there are a lot of days where i am like: “what if i combine this trait with that skill against this class” and once it works i am like wth i achieved something (and then i am waiting for someone to give me a cookie for my work)

I also really enjoyed the thief video – I hate s/d because of how useless the offhand skills are but you make it look a lot more fun. I wish s/p had a better dual skill I usually play d/p but I feel ningyou hit the nail on the head in your interview with him about how kitten it is right now in spvp.

S/d is a lot of fun to play but annoying to play against thats why i enjoy it in my videos(muwahaha :>) yea ningyou really nailed it but i think playing backstab can still be viable with the right team support

SNIP The fact is that over 90% of top 100 leaderboard are not on alpha which is why the balance patches are not tested properly. There are only 2 top teams who play the game “CM” AND “SHAD” and i know that 9 of them are not in alpha either. I won’t be surprised if there will be no teams at all who play within 1-2 months if Anet stay at this rate of spvp development. SNIP

If there’s one thing that should give ANet a wake-up call, it’s this. There is literally no competitive scene left anymore.

My worry is that ANet is looking at their metrics, seeing that new players are flocking to sPvP and that participation is up, and interprets that as a sign that PvP is healthy, and as a validation of their balancing direction. The reality could not be further from the truth. The only reason that numbers could be up (if they even are) is that infrastructure has been added since Spring in the form of the (broken) soloQ, and new players are trying that out. The current meta flat out does not support high-end competitive play.

Rewind back four-five months to the time before the Dhuumfire patch and PAX. Back then we had Mist League, and Europe had teams like Ugly, Pish, Made in Meta, Civilized Gentlemen and Paradigm, plus a bunch of others whose names escape me right now. It was a small scene, sure, but it felt like it could be going places. Fast forward to today, and what do we have? Zilch, nada, nothing. No scene.

The latest tournament (King of the Mists on October 19) was a hilarious testament to the current high level play. Disney Channel (Helseth & Co) ran a total troll comp without a bunker Guard and still had a very realistic shot at winning the whole thing. When a PUG makes it to the semifinal, you know there is no scene.

I’m not trying to offend anyone by the above, by the way. I just hope that ANet takes stock and realizes that the current meta does not support any form of serious competitive play. There is no incentive to get better if you can recruit a PUG 15 minutes before a tourney and still wreck face. That’s how the game is right now.

Maybe as a trial run to get feedback how people like it you can take some fights from your 1v1 videos, slow them down a bit and provide a commentary. That should save some time. Those 1v1 videos have plenty of interesting stuff going on there for sure.
