Keys will continue to be useful within Dry Top (or within Prospector’s Valley anyway) and are unlikely to ever go away.
I hope you’re right. I need the costs of those goggles/scarves to drop so we need to keep opening those boxes!!
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
He’d be a great NPC for events in Dry Top!
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Sure, and their F1 can be a ranged spit attack that causes blindness.
Heheheh….yes plz

If I could hit that +1 more than once I would. Can’t tell you how many times I aspect into a fight and hit ` in hopes of swapping to my skills.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Can’t answer the first one.
But yoloswag420 is just shorthand for “I’m a gigantic bag of d.” YOLO = You Only Live Once (new age carpe diem) and swag as in swagger and 420 as in weed.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Have you tried switching back to your Personal Story?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
We use swords. Swords cut. Cuts bleed. We need more bleeds.
Things like “When retaliation that we cast is triggered, enemy receives x stacks of bleeding; ICD z seconds”
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
It has always puzzled me that we dress ourselves in the costumes of our hated enemies. Karka tentacle backpacks, scarlet backpacks, aetherblade outfits and slick packs…its like the allies winning world war 2 and then dressing as the Reich.
o.O I…never thought of that……
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
The big thing is just knowing when to use your condi cleanse, and knowing what to expect from certain classes…
^ This. I used to knee-jerk cleanse any damaging conditions as soon as they appeared. I’d cleanse 3 stacks of bleed, only to have 6 more put on immediately. If I’d thought for a moment about what was happening and the enemy, I’d have known to wait until the bleeds were all dumped, then mass cleanse.
Sometimes the poorly timed cleanse is more deadly than no cleanse at all.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Hammer is fantastic, but due to its symbol/light field every 3rd strike, some groups may not like it overwriting fire/water fields. It depends on group comp and how organized they are.
Personally, I love hammer. It’s got great damage, long aoe protection uptime, and a low cooldown blast finisher. The only thing it lacks is synergy with Blind Exposure, but if you’ve got a warrior or engi in your group you don’t need to worry about the vuln stacking on your own.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
You can gear dps/zerk and still bring support. In dungeons, you’re going to want to deal lots of damage, but also bring along defensive boons like aegis, regen, and prot. Not to mention lots of blinds and vuln stacking. Those are all support-oriented, but done without sacrificing dps.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
The only places people really hunted chests in GW were in the harder areas with high level drops, such as FoW, Ttombs, and the Jade Sea/Archipelagos.
I like these Dry Top chests because they’re not up all the time and only appear during the sandstorm, which brings along a slew of new enemies making free exploration a bit harder than normal.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Anyone know what the portal/gate that’s inside is all about? Is it involved in an event?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I actually like the Sylvari. Their mythology is the subject of speculation and wild theories. They’re young, yet incredibly curious, which makes for some great personalities: innocent, easily corrupted, eager, spacey, eccentric, flighty, noble, introspective…
The Nightmare Court is a wonderful dichotomy to the standard sylvari, and we’ve got Malykk, who could open even more doors into their mythology. And let’s not forget about dragon minion speculation. Their lack of deep history makes for some very interesting potential.
Where I think the problem lies is not with Sylvari themselves, but rather with the specific characters that have been in the spotlight, and how they are/were presented.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Written by the Zephyrites after Glint fell. Explains the aspect crystals. Thanks for the link Tamias.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Ok, I will concede 2 above points:
- too many knockbacks for the sake of knockback. They did little damage, couldn’t be avoided with stability, and were mostly there to grief you into running up the ramp again
- the aspect crystals suddenly appearing nearby, making your actual skills disappear without warning. Can say I definitely tried to do something guardian-like and instead found myself careening off the plateau.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I don’t like jumping puzzles and the aspect travel got very boring for me soon after the first time it was introduced last year.
I’m not a fan of JPs either. That being said, there’s actually very little jumping that needs to be done in Dry Top. The aspect skills are minimally needed to reach only a couple spots (aside from the actual jumping puzzle). Most of what’s there is on the ground.
So yeah, LS 2 lost me in first few lines of dialogue.
The content is not worth giving a score.
Glad you didn’t give it a score. I think it’d be jumping the gun a bit considering this is only the very first of many 2-week installments.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
It’s only chapter 1. The next chapter is dropping in a week and the teaser already shows some new areas. Be patient.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
So far, I’m enjoying the new LS2. Dry Top isn’t a huge area, but it’s only the first chapter! There’s a teaser for the next chapter and it appears to have more areas, so hold your horses.
And while Dry Top isn’t the biggest, it does have a fair number of events taking place. Not to mention it’s got more z-axis wandering than any other zone, so its size is deceiving. And it changes a bit every 40 mins thanks to a sandstorm. Chest running, events, jumping puzzle, exploration, story…it’s got a bit of everything.
My only gripe is I wish I could skip the long batches of dialogue when redoing the story instances for achievements.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Actually, I think this event has a decent combination of both solo & group play. There are soloable achievements, which is good. People always gripe when they have to rely on others to earn an achievement (can’t blame em). But there are also group events, as well as better zone rewards from the entire map working together for T4.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I did this fight last night (with a friend who brought zero utility). Ran up the ramp, ignoring the tendrils. Got knocked off a ton but that was to be expected, since it was my first time and didn’t know the fight well. The only time you need to use crystals are when he pops his shield. Other than that, just burst him down as usual.
My recommendations:
Bring reflects (for grenades)
Bring retaliation (for everything)
Bring endurance regen (for more bomb dodging)
Bring swiftness (for quicker runs back up the ramp)

Having only played Mesmer since the beginning of the year, I’ve spent a lot of time on the forums trying to improve by reading posts from the likes of you Chaos. Those you thanked have been no more or less influential to my knowledge of Mesmer. This community is full of wonderful voices: smart, sarcastic, encouraging, and clever. You’ll be missed greatly, but rest assured, your mark has been left. On all of us I’m sure.

When the patch hits later today, Season 2 will officially be kicked off. And I’d say we can finally be 100% positively beyond a shadow of a doubt absolutely certain that we can trash any extra Season 1 items once and for all.
.
.
.
Right?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
^ completely agree
The trait point condensing wasn’t necessary, but I suppose I can see Anet’s point. However, gaining a level and being rewarded with nothing feels rather lackluster.
Also, I HATE that the trait tiers were pushed back 20 levels each. Now a level 20 has nothing new to do upon leveling. And at 30 you’ve finally unlocked a trait point but it’s not much fun until 36 (!!!!) when you can finally choose a major trait.
Every class is essentially weaker until 80 throughout the entire journey.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Time gating was used for new crafting tiers/types intorduced after game launch, in an effort to keep everyone from grinding out a whole set on day 1. It was annoying, but effective in that goal.
However, now that celestial (and ascended) gear have been out for a while, I see no reason for the time gating. Celestial gear is still exotic, and so should be brought in line with the rest of its crafted counterparts.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I betcha Faolin is hiding under Caithe’s blankets.
No matter what she does, Caithe always has a soft spot <hueh-hueh> for Faolin.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Hey, I am just pointing out how everyone feels.
Clearly not everyone.
Even a cleric warrior is landing 7k 100 blades. Everyone agrees rangers are garbage, but they’re doing 8-12k rapid fires. Unload thieves, dagger thieves, … even hammer guardians are seeing 2-4k crits while giving everyone in symbol range protection.
You literally just compared a condition spec to all zerk builds. It has nothing to do with which class is played. You could say the same thing about the uselessness of condition warrior vs a powermancer. Condition builds are less useful in PvE content. That’s common knowledge. Let’s stick with apples and apples.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
If you have <80 alts, grind out 100 more tokens and buy 3 Tomes of Knowledge.
Otherwise, I guess the bags of T6 materials is your best bet. Can sell them for gold at least.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Is there a way to make money from my extra skill points? It looks like the only things I can trade them for are account bound crafting items. Are there things I can craft for a profit using them?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Engi shield is actually really good. But it’s rarely used unless you’re running a defensive WvW/PvP setup. Most condition specs use pistol/pistol. The other problem is that using kits you’ll lose the visible shield often.
Guardian’s and Warrior’s shield isn’t that bad, it’s just that the other options are generally better.
You have to make the choice of more useful and covered up by kits vs less useful but always visible.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’ve been running around events with this, my symbols dealing big aoe damage.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
The problem is that all new armor/weapon skins are either gem store only or subject to the RNG gods. I tried in vain to get 1 of Scarlet’s rifles but nope, they just weren’t dropping. And because of the ridiculous drop rates, their prices were stupid high.
I’d like to see many skins that drop like those from the core game at launch, as well as some vendor armors like we’ve got in WvW or temples.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I use clones traited to damage on death. When the zerg kills them, they suffer.
Being able to deal aoe damage shouldn’t be trait dependent. Just my opinion.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Elite phantasm could be like Engi’s Supply Drop. All of our phantasms arrive en masse (independent of the 3 illusion limit and cannot be shattered) and attack random targets in the area until their timer runs out (I think that’s better than despawning after target dies).
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
@maha: I don’t run fractals so I can’t give you examples. But reading the forums I’ve learned that there are apparently a couple fractals where range is better than melee.
Anyone?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’d like Mind Stab to be redesigned to deal damage over a larger area. As a ranged weapon, change it to channel over 3 seconds and have it deal awesome aoe damage over time. Animation of the blade could have it spinning or multiple blades.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Hammer. Hammer deals outstanding damage but also has the added bonus of aoe protection at the end of every autoattack chain.
Mace. Mace deals damage similar to sword but with small aoe heals at the end of every autoattack chain. Plus it’s got a symbol with aoe regen on a very low cooldown.
These 2 weapons basically let you autoattack while maintaining passive defense/regen. Obviously, guardian has a slew of other active defense skills, such as shouts, aegis, and blocks.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
GS is still a great weapon, just not optimal for dungeons/fractals unless range is absolutely needed. It’s common knowledge that sword deals the most damage, so that’s the accepted best choice in PvE.
Having said that, GS is still great in open world and WvW.
Plus, I believe the devs have their eye on Mind Stab because it kinda sucks so they’re planning on making it better…..eventually.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
1 & 2 made me think of this elite as a sort of roving Chaos Storm meets necro wells. I like it a lot. Good for support and condition builds.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Gotta agree with the above responses. For your own part, here’s dulfy’s gallery: http://dulfy.net/2013/02/25/gw2-longbow-gallery/

Reviver: There’s a heart in Gendarran Fields at The Bloodfields that has a lot of fallen seraph to rez quickly.
Events: I find Harathi Hinterlands to be a great spot for endless events. The centaurs are always stirring up trouble.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
AFAIK, Correct. Leaving the map zone will disqualify you from getting an event reward.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’ll gladly throw my name into this hat. Oooh the shininess!
And much love for a generous soul.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
By “Aegis (3x)” I assume you mean the passive VoC proc, active VoC, (elite), active VoC again?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
You may still get credit for the event if you get DC’d and then log back in, so long as it’s the same server. But you have to actually be logged in when the event finishes to get credit. You waited an hour after the event finished and the game doesn’t award progress to those offline.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
^ this exactly.
I like using rabid on my Mesmer due to Sharper Images and on my Engineer thanks to Sharpshooter , Incendiary Powder , and Infused Precision
All on-crit procs.
Most professions (if not all) have similar traits. I like a balance of Dire & Rabid just so I’ve got the crit % to proc those extra bleeds, burns, etc.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Facerolling baddies is fun….for about 10 mins. Then it gets old. That’s what warrior is to me. I was enjoying trying all the various weapon combos, and had to switch often to stave off the boredom. Eventually though, it all become pretty monotonous.
I’m playing guardian now (level 63) and it’s mostly better, but there are definitely shortcomings. Yes, it’s more involved than autoattacking and 100-blading. There isn’t quite as wide of a range of weapons as warrior, especially because I dislike shield, scepter, and staff. Its lack of a strong ranged option is annoying, as is its slow run speed. I really miss my constant speed boosts, swiftness, and gap closers galore that warrior has. Having said that, I can still melt faces with guardian, and can keep my noob friend alive.
My favorite classes to play are Mesmer and Engineer. Combat is dynamic and builds are plentiful.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’m posting just to tag this thread for later reference. I like the idea of helping those without fashion/dye sense create great looks. I love spending time in my wardrobe trying to create mix-n-match looks, and I’m glad to see someone else who does too, and, moreover, is willing to offer their skills to the public. Kudos.
I have no problem with the OP mentioning tips. From the sounds of it, if he/she receives exactly zero gold, he/she will still be content knowing that help was given. Regardless, it’s not tacky to express thanks by mailing a few silvers/gold as a thanks.
