Celestial gear has never been about maxing dps. For that, there’s Zerk. Celestial is about having all around stats for survivability and hybrid builds. Eles and Engis benefit from Celestial quite a bit, because there are a lot of incidental conditions on many attacks, plus a lot of aoe healing. So yes, the Ferocity change has nerfed the crit damage %. But it’s boosted everything else. More vitality, more toughness, more power, more precision, more condition damage.

PS Sometimes What is best for a game, and what will make a player experience more fun…is counter-intuitive. The Mind says " this will make things harder for me therefore it’s bad." when in fact it will make things more challenging.

Sometimes More challenging makes something more fun, and makes achievements more meaningful, and therefore More memorable. It’s Like reading a drama…. or More appropriate…a HERO legend. That is who we are supposed to be In RPG’s a hero.

Anything that makes our achievements meaningful is good. Anything that ads challenge does this. Anything that makes any part of the game a cake walk, doesn’t.

PPS I hear a LOT of players talk about how they do Not like " grinding". I remember playing MMO’s before WoW was released. And back then there was a totally different meaning to the term “grind”. Let’s just say that what many new players call grinding… back then was called…. playing.

It seems many players that play MMO’s want it handed to them on a platter and do not really like playing.

Firstly, stop comparing GW2 to other MMOs of the past. They have no relevance here since we are not playing them. It’s just as useful as comparing GW2 to Pokemon, since we’re not playing that game either.

Secondly, the changes to the traits didn’t create a challenging and more fun playing environment. What they did is limit your build options and gate ALL of your traits behind various tasks. Now, instead of experimenting with traits (which is fun) starting at 11, we have to wait till 30. So fun is pushed back 20 levels.

And challenging? Anet even said they reduced the difficulty of everything in 1-79 zones to make up for the lack of traits. So there is no added challenge, just less variety.

And the argument that you can just buy the traits if you want is invalid in my opinion because their prices are ridiculous. Each and every trait requires 2-20 skill points and 10s-3g. That’s just nuts. Way more than trait manuals ever cost. The SP costs is counter-intuitive, since you need those as you’re leveling to unlock, ya know…SKILLS. Sure, vets have tons of extra SP and tomes sitting around. But altoholics and ahem, new players simply do not.

Or a general 33% reduction in costs would be fine too I think.

I hate it. Events were always hard to find now they are even harder with them getting done instantly because there are players every 20 feet.

Seriously? In my experience, I never had a hard time finding events, but rather finding people to help me with group events or just someone else to play along with. Last night I saw people all over the place. It was great. Events were getting done, they were more epic cuz they were scaling for 4-5 people instead of 1, and it was anything but lonely.

Everyone complained about lower level zones being ghost towns. Now they’re full of life and still people complain. “Someone did my event pout pout” They’re not yours, the world is dynamic, they often chain, keep running around, join the people who just did the event you missed.

1) What you’re missing is Deceptive Evasion

2) This trait is paramount to any shatter build. Without it, your clone generation just won’ be fast enough. I understand your hesitation, using the most powerful defensive ability in the game (dodge) to generate a clone you’re going to soon sacrifice. But it’s necessary. In conjunction with Critical Infusion, the adept minor trait in the same line, you should have high endurance regen.

3) Sword is amazing. It’s got that wonderful synergy with iLeap>swap>Blurred Frenzy. As for an indicator, yes, every targeted skill has one. You’ll notice a little red line on every one of your skills that disappears when you’re in range of your target. Admittedly, iLeap’s range isn’t far, but you’ll get used to it.

4) Don’t know what to say here. You’ll need to choose the traits that support your playstyle and the focus of your build. The Illusion line also reduces the cooldown of your shatters, so that’s incredibly important. Mental Torment in Dom makes your F1 hit harder. If you find that you’re having trouble with conditions, trait for cleanse on torch or signet. If you’re having trouble with health, trait for regen on phantasms. Take traits for the traits, not the stats in the line. You can make up for that with gear.

So I played for a few hours last night with a newbie friend and I gotta say, I am definitely seeing an increase of player population in the maps. Calling out champ locations and a dozen people show up. Wandering into an event and 2 others are already there. Running down roads I’m passing other players. It’s exciting. It reminds me of how it was at launch.

So regardless of the World Boss schedule snafu, just playing in the open world feels better. And for that, I thank Anet.

With the wardrobe & transmutation charges change, Anet wanted to put a new set of armor in the gem store to entice us to buy them. They figure everyone’s going to be changing their appearance, why not make some money too. That’s the link.

Apparently, Anet felt that open world PvE was just too challenging for new players and that it needed to be dumbed down. So they pushed traits back 20 levels and made all the monsters easier in lower level zones. This, of course, leads to enjoyable gameplay and prepares a player for end-game content. /sarcasm

I’m sorta glad they did the rework of mobs <80 because many an engineer had the complaint of there being a problem with DPS at level 60 I experienced this too when I was leveling but pressed on by going to lower level zones. Since doing this it looks like it might help new players with classes they haven’t quite completely fixed yet.

Of course, now those level 60 engineers will not have access to GM traits and will be worse off than before. Cheers Anet. You made things less interesting.

^ this. Anet published a static rotation schedule for their World Events. Shouldn’t it be obvious to them that this needs to somehow be in-game? A World Event tag at the top of the screen next to the other icons we have for WvW, PvP, Hero, etc that when clicked will show us the schedule and highlight the one currently occurring. Maybe even a spyglass to click that shows the location, like it does when we click the new GM trait challenges.

Literally everyone on here thinks the push back of traits to 30 is a bad idea. No matter what everyone thinks of the new traits, their acquisition, the challenges, the costs, the balance, the bugs….everyone hate the push back to 30. I’d really love a dev response because simply saying “we want to make progression for new players easier and simpler” is not holding water for me. Or any of us apparently. Heck, even new players are more confused now since they’re logging on and have a mere fraction of what they did before.

On the contrary, I’ll have to play more now to make money so I can regear and unlock traits for all my alts.

I’ll be dinging 80 with another alt this week and am considering Soldier gear rather than Zerk just because it doesn’t seem like the trade-off of survivability is worth it anymore.

You have to visit the BL Armor Trader with each character. He converts whatever that particular toon has on him/her. Visit him again with the toon that has your cooks outfit equipped.

The premise of unlocking traits with challenges isn’t bad, it’s which challenges they chose that bother me.

Anyone know what sort of challenges are required for the Adept traits for new characters? Hopefully it’s something like “complete an event in Caledon.”

For Wardrobe and Dye unlock, will they stay unlocked even all the character in the account has deleted?
I wonder if the new character is still able to use the unlocked skins and dyes even after all the previous character has deleted.

Unlocked is unlocked. You unlock your front door, it remains unlocked even if you lose your house key.

I haven’t seen one person say the change to traits at 30 is good. Not one.

And getting 1 trait point every 6 levels or whatever makes attaining a level feel so unrewarding. Kinda similar to WoW, when you’d gain a level, get excited, visit the skill vendor only to find you had nothing new to learn. At least before we’d get some stats for each trait point and feel some kind of progression thru a trait line. All this has done is make players weaker longer, and stave off build experimentation longer. Why/how is that a good thing????

Yep, I spent a few minutes last night rolling new characters to unlock all the starter pieces. Not a big deal, but QoL. On the other hand, those without an empty character slot can’t do this.

No no, I’m getting irritated. They said a month ago to hold onto them. And now the big update and nothing. C’mon man, it’s 1 NPC. Can’t be that hard.

We’ve been talking about it for weeks since the change was announced.

Now everyone is actually playing & experimenting with the changes.

Love the wardrobe system, though it’s taking some getting used to.

The Explosives and Firearms GM traits should be swapped.

Quickness would work much better with FT & rifle than bombs and you’ll never run grenades without Grenadier.

And a the Mines would be really nice synergy with a bomb build, but otherwise doesn’t do me much good in Firearms.

This is the part of the update I’m not enjoying. Pushing traits back to 30 is a mistake. It’s a giant step backwards for any mid-level player and demoralizing.

And imagine my dismay when my level 76 Mesmer suddenly can’t use the GM trait she’s been using for a week. Gated until 80. Another step backward.

For a player with a single main toon, this update is fine. Gives the player 5 new challenges and then boom new traits. But for someone like me with tons of alts at 80 and below, it’s a lot of work just to get the <80’s back to where they were Monday, and repetitive to unlock the new GMs on my 80’s.

This update discourages power leveling alts. I have a couple of alts that don’t have any map completion in Orr because it’s always been dead. And others with very little map completion throughout Tyria. Now to level an alt you have to either run the challenges all over the map or pay ridiculous prices for traits. I was hoping the prices would be lower so you didn’t feel obligated to run the challenges. Now it’s a must or you’ll be broke. Actually, due to the SP cost on top of the gold, a new player HAS TO run the challenges because he’ll never have the extra SP laying around to buy them. Either that or run with no utilities.

Oh. I thought the dye thing was for ANY duplicate of dyes…. I have collected all dyes I have found on any character I have recently just to get those duplicates… Now I will have none…. Nvm… I better read more carefully next time.

Special gem-store only dyes: duplicates will result in getting back the actual dye back in your inventory
All other dyes: duplicates will result in getting unidentified dyes in your inventory

Screenshot your traits because they’ll more than likely be reset since they’re changing from 70 → 14 pts.

I’m not aware of any time limit to convert transmute stones/crystals. That’d be restrictive against anyone that can’t log in Tuesday.

Just log in to all your characters, open your bank, and your PvP locker in HotM. Duplicate dyyes should automatically become unid dyes in your inventory. Your stones/crystals should too. Anything you’ve unlocked will automatically become available in your wardrobe. I can’t see requiring any sort of complicated conversion. Should be pretty seamless.

Sevral months ago Chaos Armor got nerfed, from being boosted. Before it did 3 or 5 sec protection on activation and each hit on chaos armor would give a boon and one condition. It resulted in a very overpowering skill which made mesmers hard to kill.
I think it was a good nerf, but now it feels that chaos armor don’t do too much help in needed situations.

IIRC, the nerf only affects Chaos Armor received from comboing thru ethereal fields. Staff #4 does still give protection.

How do you get that many illusions just standing around?
And what are the white circles? Ally ranger traps?

Of course, there’s the detail of the syntax: the sigil says " your next three attacks." Do those clones count as your attacks, or only the single instance of pressing F1? I would think that they would not count as your next three attacks.

Just because you haven’t played the good stories for some races doesn’t mean you should just write them off. I havent played most of the charr stories (mainly because I can’t stand them) but i’m not saying don’t play a charr because they’re terrible.

I’ve played through all of them except Charr, which I’ve heard are good. Don’t presume. My opinion is my opinion. I didn’t like the human stories, and the sylvari ones were only ok imo.

So, what would you choose or recommend for them?

• What race and/or profession you think will give best story experience.
• What is your favorite race and profession.
• What race would you like to see more populated.
• Do you think some race is overpopulated?
• What profession you mostly see and what you rarely see.
• Do you think some profession/s are more needed for dungeons and/or other events.

- Avoid the human stories, they’re boring. And I think the sylvari are too. Others are pretty good. Professions have no story bearing. Pick what suits you best.
- My fav race is asura, their animations and quips are the funniest. Profession: engineer & Mesmer.
- The world needs more asura. Master race!
- Oh by far, humans overpopulate Tyria. It’s absurd.
- Too many warriors and guardians. Wanna be different? Roll an engi or necro.
- This topic is far too hot and I generally don’t acquiesce to the accepted meta because I like variety more than I care about dealing the most dps. Plus, things will change tomorrow.

Screenshots can’t hurt. Being that retraiting will be free, they may not touch them, despite the changes. But they may decide it’ll be too messy if they don’t and just reset everyone’s for the sake of ease. Personally, I plan on playing around with all of my toons’ traits tomorrow anyway even if they’re kept in-tact.

Tee gem store should only have cosmetic and QoL items in it. To gate an entire zone or section of story behind it is ludicrous and contrary to Anet’s design of the gem store. If they did it, I would feel obligated to buy it just so I could enjoy new content. That’s not good imo.

I know people are willing to spend real money for new permanent content, but that’s due to a desperate longing for it, not because they feel expansions should be gem store items. It’s the traditional view of expansions costing money. And despite Anet’s claims of “expansion worth of content” in patches, we’ve yet to really see it.

Orr is definitely tougher than the rest of the PvE zones. When I first hit Orr, I was a bit overwhelmed at how hard things hit and how much heartier enemies are and how much more densely packed they are. On top of that, you’ve got contested WPs and poisonous auras, etc.

However…

I adjusted my build, gave myself more dodges, more sustain, more aoe, more escapes, more condition cleanse. Built a little more WvW-ish than PvE. Not a lot of adjustment, but a couple trait & utility tweaks that completely made the difference.

The problem with Orr now, as others have said, is that it’s largely devoid of players. You have to avoid group events, evade countless champions, sacrifice yourself for map completion, and all by yourself. I’m hoping Megaservers will help the low population of Orr. And I hope that changes are made to DEs in general that encourage players to play together to succeed in event chains.
