Yea I’m personally a little confused here too. A torment shatterer should be condition-based imo. I fully expected to see that here, because Maim without condition stats is a strange choice when compared to IP.

What about something like this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhAQNArfWlknpUtNqxMNcrRSpBZqcg64MmmSqAUyTUOA-TZRFwAAeAARLDg4IAo4UAka/BA

Then write that kitten into the lore. Everything you said is correct. But I don’t care. I wanna go back!

Have Kormir return and bless us with some artifact that can only be used to fight the dragons if all races of Tyria come together. This artifact will ultimately allow us to defeat Mordremoth, as well as gain insight into the Old Gods, and through it, gain entrance to their realms. While we’re at it, we discover the Mursaat laying low in FoW.

I think part of the draw of UW & FoW was how incredibly expansive they were. And they were fairly open, which meant after you dealt with the first area, you could choose where to go next. It wasn’t linear and it felt like you really did get dropped off in some new horrific realm.

Guild Halls, Mail and Chat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Seras.5702

I’ve never had much of an opinion on Guild Halls. I wasn’t a part of a large GvG guild in GW so it never phased me that GW2 doesn’t have them.

However, with the emergence of the Megaservers, I think Guild Halls are important to implement now. The Megaservers have made zones busier (which is good) but it’s now harder to gather a large group together in a single zone for organized play (which is bad). A Guild Hall would be a great instanced gathering point for guild members to prepare for organized content. Each Guild Hall could have an asura gate that transports players to a zone, as designated by an event leader, so that everyone is in their own Megaserver zone instance together. It’s up to Anet to figure out the technicalities and what-not. But this could be a hugely useful tool for guild event coordination.

Also, GvG.

Underworld, Fissure of Woe, and Tomb of the Primeval Kings were my favorite parts of GW back in the day. I’d run them all the time. Sometimes duo, sometimes chest runs, sometimes full clears. They were a blast and a real challenge. You could pug them, but the players had to know the encounters and plan ahead. Each area was different than the last, so it made for a dynamic journey.

I’d love to see what’s happened to these zones in the last 250yrs. Maybe FoW is a resort for the Mursaat and our return would anger them and force their return. OOoohhh….

Lack of leveling content in zones?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seras.5702

Seras.5702

I will say that the megaservers are a double-edged sword. On 1 side they’re wonderful for more interactive play and bigger scaling events. On the other hand, such high pops (along with Anet’s poor choice to make everything easier) have led to events being blown through. They’re not scaling well and with so many people, are never failing. Downleveled 80s are absolutely trashing things, especially now that crit is scaling “properly.” Makes it harder to earn the all XP an event is supposed to offer.

The vast lore of this game spans many zones and includes a huge amount of stories. You can choose just to stay in the snowy areas if you like but the more zones you expose yourself to, the more you will see how it all ties together.

If there is vast lore, why do I still have no idea what is going on with this game over half way through my leveling experience and after completing a bunch of zones? That’s not to say it doesn’t exist (I’m sure I could read volumes of it online), but why haven’t I gotten any semblance of it in game so far?

What are the factions? Do I represent a faction? Are there factions? Is each race a faction? Is every player a lone adventurer? Who are the bad guys? Who are the good guys? Who am I fighting? WHY am I fighting? What is my goal? I could go on and on.

But that is a completely separate issue other than the in-zone content. I guess I bunny trailed a bit when I kind of figured out the lack of story cohesion was a large factor for me. I guess it’s kind of going in circles at this point if we venture into personal taste territory…

As Karizee said, the lore spans many zones. It feels like you’re not willing to venture out of the comfort zone of where the game expressly points you. It’s not traipsing all over the place, bouncing back and forth. It’s moving to a different quadrant of Tyria and beginning a new adventure there. Head to the west, into the Maguuma Jungle and behold, a new bunch of stories, new lore, new characters, new goals.

If you watched your opening cinematic after character creation, you’d know exactly what your goal is. You’re a norn adventurer, setting out to make your legacy and combat the dragons. But like our real world, there are smaller problems within the larger overarcing issues. Helping a farmer or fending off bandits or even slaying dragon minions are all a part of becoming a hero. Be bold, be brave, explore.

Lack of leveling content in zones?

Seras.5702

@OP: If you run with some food, guild buffs, banners, inherent WvW buff, and sharpening stone/crystal, etc you’ll get a lot more XP from doing your average open world content. You can pick up those things for super cheap, or craft them yourself, and gain an extra +20% and more XP for everything you kill. Really speeds up the leveling process and might keep you more in line with the concept of “1 zone per level range.”

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Seras.5702

There’s a reason there are multiple zones for each level range. Check the wiki here to see all appropriate zones. Variety and exploration make the game more fun. Also, you may find you aren’t a fan of the area you started (eg – Kryta for human) and by venturing to the other side of the map for another starter zone, discover you love the Shiverpeaks. It’s done intentionally to get players to experience more than just a straight line from 1-80 but rather feel that you’re a legit adventurer.

Exploring the major cities is also very easy XP.

You should also be doing the Dynamic Events that pop up throughout the zones. Pay attention to /map chat and join others who are calling out group events.

Don’t forget about your personal story. That gives really good XP too.

Finally, dungeons. Once you hit certain level milestones, you’ll get in-game mail directing you to new dungeons. Each path of a dungeon will net you almost a full level.

Engineer lvl 80 help with choosing an alt

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seras.5702

Seras.5702

Personally, I love my engineer. So it’s hard for me to understand your lack of love for yours. But I’ll try to help just the same…

As much as it pains me to say it: Warrior.

Warrior offers high damage, versatility and weapon variety, plenty of mobility, and less dependent on traits whilst leveling. I will say though, that I find warrior to be a bit boring. Yes, there’s plenty of weapon variety, so you can change things up often. But the actual playstyle is straight-forward and unimaginative.

I’ll also recommend Mesmer. True, roaming speed isn’t great. There’s little swiftness uptime and no speed signet. But, Mesmer offers dynamic play, good group utility, weapon variety, & high combat mobility. One drawback is that Mesmer is quite trait dependent, so leveling may feel like a chore until mid-way. But that’s just how leveling is with Anet’s latest trait changes (don’t get me started).

Guardian is another class, like Mesmer, that has no on-demand speed boost. But its group support is unparalleled and it can maintain high damage with good survivability. And similar to warrior, has plenty of weapon variety.

Unlimited Gathering Tools - Worth it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Seras.5702

The unlimited gathering tools are temporarily back on the TP and are they really worth it? 1000 gems / $12.50 US / 110g (11g per 100 gem conversion) is pretty steep especially if you decide to get all 3. I gather regularly and at most I might need to replace my tools once a week. The only real reason I can see for buying one is for the look and convenience, but its not like you won’t be regularly visit a merchant anyways. Are we just paying for that extra animation or is it it actually worth it in the long run?

You said it right there. They’re all about looks and convenience. From a purely monetary standpoint, you’ll never make up for the costs of them. If you like cool looking stuff because it’s cool looking stuff, then sure. If you like paying for convenience items, then sure.

Seras.5702

Good advice. I was up in the air with Phantasmal Haste vs. Phantasmal Strength. Not being one to crunch numbers I didn’t know which was better. My feeling with PS and Chaotic Dampening was that, having never taken Mesmer into dungeons yet and thus not know phantasm durability, I’d need to front load the damage and pump out new phantasms often. If it’s feasible to maintain phantasms without them dying too often, I can definitely see the merits of the changes you suggested.

I liked having Illusionary Membrane for some added defense in those “o crap” moments, and since sword isn’t doing much for me in this build, figured Blade Training to be a waste. But I guess sword #2 on a 9s cooldown is now my “o crap” button.

Your suggestions: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhUQNAW8dnsISBa2qGmqB1aIR1QOZxhosbaSFokdKB-TRCBwASUCaU5HgHAAO1fSpbo4+DWOCAbuIAKM/REAzCA-e

Another option would be to drop Blade Training and put 2pts in Domination for Signet Mastery. Good for more heals, more iWarlock, and more boon sharing.

That would boost my phantasms like crazy, give me reflect on focus, reduced glamour cooldown, and iWarlock on 10.75s cooldown. Chaos Sstorm with a little +boon duration food and Sig of Inspiration for a bit of general boon sharing and group support.

How’s that? iWarlock x3 should be easy to keep up. Let them hit like trucks while I bash away with sword.

Would a Sw/F + Staff Phantasm build work in dungeons, if staff is only used to maintain 3x iWizards? Using Sw/F primary to attack in melee and keep up reflects, staff iWizards + SoE could output some serious damage.

Something like this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhAQNAW8dnsISVaWkGuqB1aGR1QOdxhHJdgERKVHA-TRRDgAJKB7V+9q+DouBAzfAA-e ??

I feel like you should use staff 3, switch to sword, and stick with sword for the rest of the battle unless you explicitly need to dis-engage. Once you move to staff, you’re stuck with it for 9 seconds, and you’ll be doing very little damage during that time. Unless you’d be kiting anyway to run away/heal, in which case sword is doing no damage, I think you’re better off with just the auto-attack on sword.

So start with staff, iWarlock > Sig of Ether > iWarlock > weapon swap > 1111111 would work nicely. What about using Runes of the Warrior for weapon swap reduction?

Anet created all those feedback threads and, since then, hasn’t uttered a peep. I’m assuming that they’re reading and gathering information and brainstorming solutions. I figured a week would be long enough for them to at least post something resembling a PSA that they’re aware of items X, Y, and Z. Hopefully we’ll hear from them by the end of the month.

These changes have been pretty monumental. Most of them have been great, some meh, and some downright bad. I think it’s pretty obvious which ones are unpopular with the player-base. Yet nothing’s been said. For now, I’m focusing on the positives and avoiding the negatives until I know where Anet thinks they may go with this.

With the newly re-designed Sigil and Runes of Strength, along with Juggernaut, I figured stacking Might will be easy. In a pug group where organized might stacking aren’t present, I figure this could be very sexy, though I haven’t had a chance to test it at all. Seras.5702

Regarding thieves and interrupts…

The core of the issue is that there is 0 balance/synergy between cooldowns and the initiative system. Looking at the recent major initiative changes, initiative seems to be balanced based on what thieves are capable of doing with x amount of initiative, i.e. when thieves start spamming skill x too many times and frustrating other players, they fiddle with initiative until that particular form of abuse is no longer viable.

There seems to be absolutely no thought given to how the initiative system is completely in the thief’s control and immune to any interaction from other players. You can’t mess with a thief’s initiative, period. If a thief is very very good at managing his initiative, his skill level rises dramatically because he is 100% in control of this important aspect of his character all the time.

A simple solution could be to make PB punish an interrupted thief skill with double initiative cost, because the severity of the punishment also relies on interrupting the right skill. But I highly doubt they are going to do this, because they seem content to have initiative as an internal thief mechanic that you’re not allowed to touch when playing against them.

Which is a shame because every other class is cooldown-based, and those can be messed with. Thief traits effect initiative regen and costs, just like the other classes’ traits influence skill cooldowns. Similar mechanics, yet initiative is like an untouchable holy entity.

You guys are all missing the point. I’m not talking about speed clearing dungeons or using a stopwatch to max my dps at level 40. I’m talking about having a more complete experience. Why would you want a game to take 1/2 of what defines your combat style and gate it behind so many levels and challenges and costs? That’s restrictive to the potential; potential fun, potential dynamic play, potential for variety, etc. It’s not about maxing dps. It’s about getting used to all the traits you’ll be using at 80 & testing how they synergize together, trying things out, and not letting combat become stale. If I could click this 100 times I would. Please add new armor to the game and not to the gem store.

If they want to make money, Anet should bring back all those individual town clothes pieces from the past. Now that they can be used in conjunction with armor, they’d sell like hotcakes. That should satisfy them enough to warrant actual armor in-game.

My engineer, finally the baseball cap can see some action

Wow…I was wondering how to make the cap look good. Gonna have to try that tonight. Cheers

Lvling without traits isn’t fun.

In your opinion.

Leveling 1-11 is fine without, but 11-30 isn’t? Even though the health of mobs has been adjusted accordingly?

I don’t even notice I’m not getting traits 11-30 now.

It’s not about needing traits cuz the content is hard. It’s about having access to traits to further enrich the gameplay. Traits are the defining factor to how your build plays. If you’re not noticing not getting traits, then your playstyle must be pretty dull. That’s not meant to be offensive. But you’re clearly not utilizing your toon to its fullest potential if you don’t miss your traits.

Why the hell are you worried about utilizing a sub-60 toon to it’s ‘fullest’ potential? Everything is fluid pre-60. It’s your time to experiment. Use levels 1-30 to try out all the weapons and get a good grasp of their different playstyles. Then after 30, add in the traits for further ‘utilization’. Getting to 30 is pretty dang quick to begin with.

In short, your crying over spilt milk.

30 levels to try out all the weapons? Really? You need 20 hours of gameplay to figure out how to swing those weapons?

By fullest potential I don’t mean creating a meta-dungeon build. Other poster said he/she didn’t miss those traits while leveling. I sure miss them. I miss the added dynamics those traits added to my gameplay. I like having those traits to make my toon’s potential even greater. At 40, my Mesmer could trait Deceptive Evasion to make shattering more exciting and faster paced. Without that trait until at least 60 now, my Mesmer’s potential dropped. That’s what I meant.

Lvling without traits isn’t fun.

Agreed. That’s what I meant about the “trait situation.” I hate that Anet feels the trait progression was too advanced for apparently stupid players and had to push everything back 20 levels. I lost access to my GM traits on my most recent alt. And my buddy who’s new to the game lost access to ALL of his traits for another half dozen levels. So much for him getting the hang of experimenting with traits.

Only thing I don’t like is the trait situation (free resets aside of course).

The zones feel MUCH more populated now and running open world PvE is fun and sociable again. Changing builds on the fly to deal with a champion or to better aid a low level friend is clutch.

AI is not measured by more HP

I think everyone will agree that better AI and more complex fights are better than raising the HP. Zergs will still zerg until zergs can’t zerg. A boss attack like a Chain Lightening would certainly loosen up the pack, forcing them to spread out and maybe strategically move to various spots to avoid getting nuked.
