2500 for Southsun Survival...

Whether the 2500 point requirement is too high or not, one thing is for certain: the fact that it is usually better to die sooner than later, then follow a survivor with a string of #1 traps, suggests bad game design. The achievement only reinforces this conclusion.

Problem with the Two-Week Release Schedule

in Living World

Serenity.6149

Concur completely.

And I hate the argument that the rest of the game is boring; if there isn’t proper incentive to play the core game, then that’s a problem that needs addressing. If a friend asks us why they should consider GW2, it’d be nice if we could tell them about the amazing dungeon/fractal system that requires teamwork and never gets boring (I can only comment about PvE since I don’t PVP or WvW). It’d be nice if we could tell them about the thriving and abundant open world system. It’d be nice if we could tell them about the amazing combat mechanics (I love the dodge system, but let’s face it, most fights in this game are tank and spank of the worst kind).

I can tell them about the frequent temporary content additions, which isn’t bad per se, but when the goal of that temporary content is mainly 1) lore, 2) achievements/titles, and 3) skins, those are things that appeal to players already vested in the game. To someone who either hasn’t played or left due to the flawed PvE, none of that sells.

It’s nice that ANet has four teams working on Living Story now, but I don’t think anyone would have complained if it was two teams rotating on a four-week release schedule. The other manpower or salary could be directed toward polishing the core PvE. Unlike those who believe in an infinite resource system that ANet has at their disposal, it’s clear that they could use more help in fixing bugs and polishing the overall game. I realize bugs/bad tooltips/skill malfunctions take time to be ironed out, but when even the easiest things to address take 11 months (and counting), it’s no longer an issue of bugfixing but either lack of manpower or poor attention to detail.

(If there are issues with PvP and WvW, I didn’t mean to place PvE above them in importance, but as I said before, my main experience is with PvE. Surely, if there are issues with core PvP and WvW, they should receive similar attention.)

If we’re talking about the same thing, there was a post from a player that quoted a support rep responding to the possibility that the achievements could be completed after the event. It wasn’t a dev or moderator post, nor was it completely convincing either way. The support rep stated that once events are over, they will be removed from the game and thus cannot be completed.

While this is certainly true with regard to the more general Living Story achievements, it does not explicitly address achievements linked to mini-games that will be making a return, such as Southsun Survival during the rotation. In fact, Colin’s post that people screwed over by Crab Toss achievements being bugged could complete them at a later time seems to contradict what the support rep stated, BUT we don’t know whether that is a special exception given the bugged nature of the achievements or true for any mini-game that returns.

As always, an actual Dev post regarding this would be appreciated.

While I’m sure there are anti-GW2 trolls (just as the OP seems to be an anti-WoW troll), just because some people are unhappy with GW2’s direction doesn’t make them haters. This “if you have anything bad to say, go elsewhere” attitude has to stop. Positive opinion isn’t the only valid opinion, and if this game is to continue strong, it needs both sides voiced. Aside from the people who try (miserably) to hold the game hostage (“change this or I’m leaving”), a lot of us are voicing legitimate issues with the game that are causing people we know (friends, family or guildmates) to leave the game. I’ve been in two guilds already that have been decimated by people losing interest. We still have the more casual players popping in every now and then, but all the hardcore players who would be online almost all the time have pretty much left. I’d rather the game address some of its issues so they have a reason to come back, and only singing praises of GW2’s strong points isn’t likely to make that happen.

I personally enjoy the mini games and jumping puzzles and think it’s somewhat strange to see people who say they DON’T play them, asking them not to be added. If they are added and you don’t play them, how does that affect you exactly?

Don’t forget there are a lot of people who are “completionists”. Using myself as an example, I don’t really like mini-games or jump puzzles, but have no problem with them being in the game when I can tackle them as quickly or as slowly as I wish. The problem with the constant temporary mini-games are we’re forced to focus on them immediately, and when they’re coming at you temp content after temp content… it’s no different from a completionist who may not run a lot of dungeons being tired of all the temporary dungeons (coupled with skins and achievements). Bottom line: I think people are tired in general of all the temporary anything with skins/titles/achievements. It’s good that there’s new content, but it honestly wouldn’t hurt to have downtime between each content release so people can catch up on whatever it is that appeals to them, especially when the playerbase tends to be more casual in nature.

Candidate Trials T4

I managed to beat T4 with my ranger and a group of 4 others (we pretty much tanked and CC’d through the whole thing). However, I hadn’t beaten T3 beforehand. So now I have to beat T4 again. This isn’t right, I don’t see why A-net grouped the achievements like that. There should be separate achievements for beating T1, T2, T3, and T4.

I feel you. Did T2, T1, T3 and T4 (in that order), before discovering we had to start over again at T2. Not sure why everything in the game seems to be designed based on groups doing everything a set, certain way. This happened in Aetherblade Retreat as well, where if you either didn’t turn off the bridges (not everyone would find it necessary if all their members crossed) or if you didn’t have members too lazy or unable to do the jumping bit (thus engaging the mobs from behind before Kiel), you wouldn’t be able to progress to the final boss fight. Even if they kept the achievements as is, how hard is it to simply do a boolean check for completion of both T1 and T2, or T3 and T4? The current setup seems a much less intuitive coding design choice.

Losing Guild Chat when switching Toons

Yes, and it’s very annoying. Also, the following:

- If you quickly rep another guild for a second (to queue an upgrade, for instance) and switch back, your guild chat is wiped if you change tabs, even if you’re back in the guild the chat text belongs to.

- If your party disbands, your party chat is wiped immediately. I’m sure most people have been in a situation where the party tab indicates you have a new message, and you have to message your friends to ask if they said anything important because you missed it.

Honestly, neither feature really serves a purpose except to annoy.

If you have had and used your MF gear you got your benefit out of it. If you get a full refund, do you also lose all the extra/better loot you got?

Following your logic…

Would you have a problem if all your gear was removed? If you’ve ever used your _ gear, you got your benefit out of it. If you get a full refund, do you also lose everything that gear helped you accomplish/survive/save in time spent as well? That would seem to be your argument.

If someone purchased the Golden Lotus and MF infusion, the transaction made was the opportunity cost of not using those 50 laurels for another purpose in exchange for permanent access to the bonuses provided by the Golden Lotus and MF infusion. Whether or not players received better loot is irrelevant; otherwise that logic could be applied to any and all gear, whether MF or Berserker or Sentinel, etc., and there would never, ever be a case for compensation.

I’ve long hoped for MF gear to be removed, as it was poorly conceived in the first place, but given that it was in the game, and people made opportunity cost decisions based on their presence, it’s going to be interesting to see what ANet’s idea of low disruption will be.

Celestial gear is the least of their concerns as the MF can simply be replaced by a reweighing of the stats provided. I don’t know what the best method of implementation would be for everything else (i.e. explorer, wayfarer, etc,), but, as a start, perhaps convert all affected armor/weapons into transmutation skins + account bound armor/weapon tokens. This would prevent the loss of any skins used and allow players to select a new set of gear for a character of their choice (some players don’t have a need for another set of non-MF gear).

Runes that can only be acquired with dungeon tokens can simply be refunded with those tokens. Non-dungeon runes/sigils would be trickier as the price point for compensation would be debatable; do you refund them based on the price before today’s news started tanking their prices? Do you refund them based on the completely tanked price at the time of the patch? If the former, what about people who buy runes/sigils right before patch?

For trinkets, perhaps convert affected ascended pieces with account bound tokens to allow selecting a different trinket from the same slot category. MF infusions would be reimbursed with their laurel cost.

Remove repair costs and/or make it as profitable as PvE. =P Or have nice skins you can only acquire through WvW that can be used in regular PvE. Right now, there’s only the one Invader set from badges so if you’re not into it, there’s not much incentive.

Guys… what you don’t realize is that achievement points are serious business to those who care. I used to lord over my girlfriend that I had more AP than her, and every day I logged in and saw I had more AP, I felt better about myself. Fast forward to the change, which allowed my girlfriend to leapfrog me in AP. I know this is stupid, but now that she has more AP, I feel like less of a man and it has definitely affected my performance in, well, you know. Please change it back; [kitten] is a lot more real than you think.

(dripping sarcasm)

Seriously though, the good news is the number of people who care about the leaderboard is a very, very small segment of the GW2 population. Subtract from that the people who benefited from the change because they played GW1, as well as those who aren’t anal retentive about this sort of thing (or have already figured out that maintaining their leaderboard rank through the monotonous and unforgiving task of collecting every single daily point every single day for the next seven or more foreseeable years of their lives is not the way they wish to live), and that number becomes even smaller. To put it in perspective, there are probably magnitudes more people who are frustrated that the tooltip (or the effect) for Sigil of Blood still hasn’t been fixed. Just leave the thread alone and it will eventually die out.

What class best for +all Stats armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Serenity.6149

Serenity.6149

Different gear does not equate to bad. A player is more than the gear they wear and the weapon they use, in all honestly.

I have no issue with people choosing to run all zerker armor. If that is how they enjoy playing, cool. You’re very correct that some people do enjoy just power housing through the game play, that’s fine. I take issue when people come along and tell me that by using something else I must be bad, or stupid. Quite frankly, I am neither. I am simply different. I enjoy playing a different way, with a different set up.

I accept how others play (don’t always necessarily agree), but I resent when people are intolerant of how I (and others play) and try forcing their ‘our way or no way’ on us when we aren’t even playing with you. You do you thing, I’ll do mine. I have no desire to run speed clears…..ever.

+1

IMO builds (gear, traits etc) are best when they fit YOUR playstyle. When they bring the best out of it.

If your playstyle is “kill them before they kill you” then zerker gear is great. If it isn’t – and there are many more playstyles – then it isn’t.

Suggesting that someone is bad because they don’t copy you and your choices is extremely childish and ill-informed.

The alternative playstyle — “don’t kill them before they kill you” — doesn’t seem very desirable. I’m just teasing, btw.

I don’t care enough to go around and make people feel bad, but have you considered that:

1) For any given playstyle, there are more optimal choices and less optimal choices (e.g. if the goal is to maximize damage, then a certain stat choice would be best, and if the goal is to provide healing, then a different stat choice would be best, etc.); and

2) Not everyone is knowledgeable of all the formulas, coefficients and timings,

Clearly, some people just don’t want anyone else’s advice, which is perfectly fine, but, for instance, just because I come up with a build I like doesn’t mean it is perfect. If someone else tells me I would be better off using something else, I might agree or disagree, but I would back up my opinion with actual math. If I overlooked something, I sure as hell would want to know. So while I do understand and agree that opinions should not be forced on others when they’re not desired, I have to disagree with the notion that builds are by default “best” and perfectly optimized to each person’s playstyle. They can be if you’ve done the calculations, but they can also be suboptimal (especially if no calculations were done).

I like to mess around with different builds even when I know a particular one is more optimal, but at the same time, I have been on casual runs where the builds in the group were so lacking that the boss fight was much harder than it had to be (e.g. one CoF 1 group took a good 15 minutes on the final boss, and another was unable to dodge or kill Lupicus’ grubs at all). As much as people like to think their way is best, sometimes it really isn’t.

new one is way better, looks nicer, and it actually shows which paths u have completed in dungeons. i like it

Where does it show which paths you’ve completed? It shows the total number of paths (incl story) you’ve completed, which is no different from before, unless I’m missing something here.

if you click it to open achievement details, hover mouse over text: X/X Paths Completed

Again, how is this different from before? You made it sound like it told you which path you were missing (e.g. Story, Path 2 and 3 completed, 1 and 4 missing). It only tells you the total (e.g. 3/5), which is what it used to do.

This is such a lazy response. Just because it’s new doesn’t mean it’s perfect. Information that used to be readily apparent is now either hidden in a second layer or missing entirely. New doesn’t mean it can’t use more change.

I have to agree with the OP. While I understand the organization in the left panel (more events = more rows), the layout in the right panel is flashier but functionally inferior to the old layout.

For one thing, to be able to tell how many achievement points we have earned in uncompleted achievements, we have to either hover over the achievement or click on and then hover over. This makes it much harder to tally points in each section, especially with the category total removed. Why might we wish to manually tally our points? Every now and then achievements are bugged and it helps to know whether it’s a display issue or if we really did not get points awarded. This new layout is much less transparent than the old one.

If you bank all your money waypoints are free when you die. You could also try using a low level character for cheaper waypoints.

It withdraws it out of your bank. It would all need to be on another character. I think the purpose of this event is to correct the economy. Mat sinks and gold sinks here I come.

Ok, then put up a buy order of all your gold for something that will never sell like permanent hair style contract and then immediately cancel the order. All of your gold will now be in the black lion trading post pickup (this is how I always transfer gold from character to character most easily).

Except you need to do this before you die. Unless they changed it since the last time I tried, if you have gold on you when you die, then find a way to get rid of it (send it to a friend, put a buy order on the TP, etc.) and have no money in your bank, you cannot waypoint for free and must either get sent money or wait for a revive. Just a heads up.

Wait people take leader boards seriously?

Well if Arena.net decides that you need to play a different game in order to be competitive on the leaderboard, then nobody should take it seriously anymore. You shouldn’t have to feel like you have to go back to GW1 to stay on the GW2 leaderboard. You can’t get those achievements by playing GW2, so it shouldn’t have that big of an effect on the GW2 leaderboards. That’s been my point all along, and I’m not saying GW1 vets shouldn’t be rewarded – they already have been rewarded enough with skins and titles.

Wait, so is there still a problem? Since the criteria listed in your first sentence in true, therefore the result listed in the same sentence should also apply. Nobody should take it seriously anymore, and neither should you.

And as I stated before, “they already have been rewarded enough” is your subjective opinion, not your determination to make, and one that ANet clearly disagrees with.

I did care about the leaderboards, but if Arena.net wants to give out substantial GW2 achievement points for things you can’t even accomplish inside the game itself, then the leaderboard has lost a lot of credibility.

The point of the leaderboard is to show how much people have accomplished in GW2… not GW1, not Aion, not Lineage, or whatever. GW1 can have it’s own separate leaderboard.

Not sure if you’re the silver lining kind of person, but considering the amount of angst posted in the past by players fed up with spending their day maintaining their rank by doing every single 1-point daily before being able to play the game the way they actually want to, perhaps you should consider this a blessing. You will now be able to go on vacation in the next however many years GW2 survives for, without feeling terrible about falling behind.

And there’s no point bringing up Aion or Lineage. You may feel like it’s the same thing, but it really isn’t.

Let me put it another way for you, every achievement in the game can/ has be earned through guild wars 2 without paying money for them.

Hall of Monuments have no way of being obtained unless you pay money for them and im very surprised ANet would resort to selling AP for people who wish to remain competitive on the highscores.

You’re kinda right, actually. It was my understanding that you could no longer accrue HoM rewards unless you bought EotN before GW2 release, but if it’s still possible then implement a cutoff preventing any new HoMs being started. Problem solved. You will no longer have to worry about paying for APs.

Only noobs play zerker. Sure it works if u dodge every damage.

a) there is content you cannot have enougth doge rolls to dodge anything. If all 5 ppl play zerker – someone dies. Period. Dont talk now: blablabla u are a bad player you can dodge everything. No. You can’t. And u suck thinking you are good enogth doing it.

b) you can’t carry other bad players with zerker gear. You only opinion is to flame them hard and rage quit the party. Because zerker gear does not allow you to compensive any fails of other ppl. That’s why pros play all-stats and always did with ascended trinkets already. Period. I can carry bad ppl. You can’t with Zerker. I am the better player.

c) zerker gear is not always max dps for every class for every build. For example I finish veteran undead giant faster with rampager or even all-stats then with zerker on my engineer. Zerker gear sucks in skaling.

d) I dont need zerker gear because I dont need to farm cof. Only noobs farm cof. I own so much gold u would need to farm multiple years cof every day to reach that. Furthermore, I don’t need zerker anyways because I dont need to kill monsters as fast as possible to increase my income. GG you zerker guys still need this. Poor purse.

Wow… I don’t even know where to begin…

But throw my vote in with Elementalist, if I had to choose one to use Celestial prefix with in PvE, but I probably still wouldn’t use Celestial if I had a choice. Definitely not Guardian. It may seem like supplying a little of everything is a good idea, until you realize each of your stats is only helping you a fraction of the time. Better to specialize in one thing and do it well to maximize the “uptime” of each stat.

Straw man. The context of that sentiment was that the leaderboard competition was pointless. Getting free AP is nice because it helps with unlocking the new achievement bonuses.

Also, the one big subjective factor in all this is whether or not GW1 players were adequately rewarded. It’s equally amusing to see people assume their opinion on reward adequacy is objective rather than subjective. The trump card in all this is that clearly ANet feels the original reward was not sufficient.

I would say the Fiery Dragon Sword is more than just a useless skin, considering Jormag’s Breath is worth 150 gold and shares the same skin, but colored different. God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals is one of the coolest titles you can have. Also now, if you had any ambition of making the Guild Wars 2 achievement leaderboard, you have to go back and play Guild Wars 1 to be competitive. You should be rewarded, but you shouldn’t be rewarded that much for playing a different game.

And for those of you saying 500 points isn’t a lot… it really is. If you are up high enough to make the leaderboard, you’ve accomplished almost everything in the game already and the points are not easy to come by.

Well, this is obviously subjective, but the Fiery Dragon Sword was nice for all of two seconds, until 1) you realize anyone who played GW1 has it (its one of the early rewards), and 2) you realize that the only class you want to use sword on is your Mesmer. Also, Jormag’s Breath is worth what it’s worth because that’s how much the materials are worth. 11-50/50 were pretty lackluster.

Just face it. If the achievement points were originally higher, like they probably should have been, you wouldn’t have anything to complain about right now.

Nick, that’s not what I’m saying. I said they deserve something for playing Guild Wars 1 and being a loyal customer – the 50 total achievement points and skins is enough of a reward in my opinion.

To make it a requirement to play Guild Wars 1 in order to make the GUILD WARS 2 leaderboard is not fair. 500 Achievement points vs 50 achievement points rewarded before is a huge difference.

Well, a bunch of useless skins and a measly number of achievement points was not enough of a reward in my opinion. Oh well.

Was it even 50 total achievement points? I feel like you are overstating the amount, as, IIRC, each completed tier was only 2 points for me. The later tiers (past 30) might have been worth more though, so I don’t know.

Too Much Temporary Content Can Only Harm GW2

Unfortunately they have no reason to stop with temporary content. It’s a minimum work maximum profit model fueled by people buying into rng. It keeps the gears turning and the cash flowing. If you really want to see a change then simply dont buy gems.

Problem is you don’t have to buy into RNG to buy into the system. I haven’t bought into RNG since the beginning, but I’m still buying gems simply because it’s preferable to grinding CoF. If you assume an optimistic estimate of 10g/hour from CoF speedruns, that’s $5 USD/hour when the exchange rate is 100 gems : 2.5g. To a lot of people, unless they find CoF ad nauseum to be entertaining, it’s simply better to buy gold and spend our limited free time doing something more fulfilling. Perhaps that’s the reason why every other profitable venture outside of TP flipping has been nerfed (and TP flipping only works when you have a large enough capital base to afford waiting out undercuts, which again means either CoF or gold buying), but that would be terribly cynical of me.

‘(Feel free to sub in any Show/Book/Game/Media/Etc. if you don’t like Game Of Thrones!)’

I would like to insert ‘EastEnders’, ‘Days of Our Lives’, ‘All My Children’ or any other soap opera. They were pretty successful back in the day with that model. =)

This is the only reply so far that brought up any positive light on temporary content actually working! I can see the slogans now: Guild Wars 2! The soap opera of MMOS!

But seriously, Claiming temporary content is good because it makes people play it just highlights the point I made about creating a sense of urgancy to make the content seem more compelling. If a developer can’t make a mode that can hold a players interest then maybe it’s not that good to begin with.
I could be wrong since I’ve stoped playing WoW but I’d wager players still do Warsong Gultch and Alterac Valley, Mode that were put in 8 years ago.

Sure but WoW doesnt release new content every 2 weeks. How many players were playing Warsong or Alterac in the first 2 weeks of MoP release?

I think its only natural to expect players to try new content and if you’re releasing content every 2 weeks essentially you have new content all the time!

I mean think about it, if they’ve kept all the content released in game, how likely would it be for you to play in the mad king’s labyrinth today, or tomorrow or the rest of this week?

I think the quoted poster’s main point was more that the interest in the new content is not being driven by the content being compelling, but by its ephemeral nature. It may be new, but overall it hasn’t been very good.

You actually essentially agreed with him/her, by suggesting (true or not) that few players would actually keep playing the old temp content if it had been permanent. If the content was good, or the motivation was adequate, people would continue playing.

Not sure who two-week content releases really benefit. Casual players will hate missing out on achievements, skins, etc. , while some of the more hardcore players like myself are getting tired of the achievement/skin treadmill. I would much prefer four-week long content releases, if not some downtime in between as well. Like Vick stated, the game has basically become achievement maintenance (get your daily points, get your monthly points, finish anything else that might disappear forever). Most of the time, the temp content is terribly lacking impact and downright boring, but I do them because I don’t want to miss out on points and skins (Aetherblade Retreat is probably the only temp content I actually enjoyed). Perhaps tellingly, despite the constant new content, the main bulk of the game (at least PvE, since I don’t PvP or WvW) feels completely devoid of content. This is my personal opinion, but I don’t think I’m the only one as both my first guild and my second guild have been decimated by players growing disinterested in the game. While I’m sure this doesn’t mean the game is dying (I see a lot of love on the GW2 facebook page), I hope ANet looks beyond the growing number of accounts and notices the number of early adopters no longer playing.

You should never do Guild Wars 2 content the day of. I can’t recall a single time they have released content that worked as intended the first day of release. Expecting it to work properly within the first few days will only leave you disappointed. It sounds harsh, but it is the truth. Just give it a few days and come back to it later

I don’t know about that. I’ve never done GW2 content the day of release, but that’s also how I missed the easy gold and karma from Canach, the extra laurels received by people completing dailies/monthlies immediately after a patch, the lack of a headache from having Crab Toss achievements not bugged for almost two weeks, etc.

Of course, the first time I do the content right away, our group runs into this bug right after the jumping puzzle… lol.

And now, because I put this off till the last day, I can’t even get “Joined The Crab Toss” or a SINGLE crab achievement.

While I agree that Crab Toss should be extended to account for the fact that the achievements are currently bugged, leaving anything till the last day is a TERRIBLE idea. Get things done as early as you can, whether it’s gaming or taxes.

It is currently working again, at least for now. Go get it while you can, people!

While the replied to poster did leave it ‘till the last day, most people affected have been so since June 1st. I don’t think there should be a “don’t leave things until the last 11 days” rule, nor should gaming take similar priority to RL commitments. In fact, I’d wager most people leaving gaming ’till the last moment are doing so because they are actually getting other things done as early as they can, which is why gaming came last. :-p

Confirmed working at the moment. Won’t help most people unless they extend the activity, but at least some people will be able to de-stress a bit.

Still broken.

And regarding the support message posted by Rukral, I don’t think they realize we’re not asking them to fix it immediately ("it can take time to resolve the issue), but to let us know whether those of us still trying to finish the achievements have any recourse after the event is over. Considering this has been a problem since the beginning of June, their bed-side manner really could use some improvement from the current silent treatment.

Decided to take several screenshots to document the bug.

Screenshots:

1. Crabgrabber 88% (88/100) @ 2:07 remaining; already grabbed crab once to check for bug after daily reset
2. Crabgrabber still at 88% @ 1:27 remaining; crab grab #2 of the match visible
3. Crabgrabber still at 88% @ 0:40 remaining; crab grab #3 of the match visible
4. Crabgrabber still at 88% @ 0:28 remaining; crab grab #4 of the match visible
5. Final scoreboard verifies four steals (three of which were after screenshot #1), but Crabgrabber achievement still at 88%

Please advise, Anet.

I’m personally glad it’s closed so I don’t feel the need to keep farming the kitten place, but ending SAB at the same time as the daily reset would have made a lot more sense than having a moving target that is unknown to players until too late.

Fine Tune Armor Search, Please

On the bright side, it is very easy to search for gathering tools. You can either select “Gathering” or “Tool” to get a full list of all the gathering tools available for sale on the TP.

But seriously, yes, how nobody working on the TP interface thought it would be important to provide a filter by armor class is baffling.

Would be nice also if the TP didn’t refresh to the main page every time you open it up. You can see the last thing you did for a split second before it refreshes, and it isn’t that hard to just click once for the main page again if that’s what you want, versus clicking several times and duplicating all your filters just because you hid the window for whatever reason.

Also pretty annoying how every time you select an entry on your My Transactions page, you have to click twice to get back to your log (once on a different tab just so you can click on the My Transactions tab again). When you’re trying to check a lot of transactions consecutively, the extra click (especially such an un-intuitive one) really becomes tedious.

Guild Wars 2 Economy Review

“Goods are so badly flooded that it is much cheaper to just sell your equipment and buy new equipment instead of repairing it when it gets damaged.”

Um, what?

Goods are so badly flooded that it is much cheaper to just sell your equipment and buy new equipment instead of repairing it when it gets damaged.

Not letting that guy balance my checkbook lol.

Which part of this do you guys not understand? With a few exceptions (i.e. exotics, rares, and small pockets of blue/green gear that sell at much higher than vendor cost), you would be better off buying replacement gear than repairing it in the pre-endgame. This is compounded by the fact that it costs the same to repair both a damaged item and a broken item.

Compare:

Your level XX, fine/masterwork helm is damaged. You fix it, costing you 4 copper plus 2 copper per item level. Your net cost is anywhere from 6 copper to 164 copper.

Your level XX, fine/masterwork helm is damaged. You sell it to vendor for Y copper and buy the very same helm off the TP for Y+1 copper. Your net cost is 1 copper.

Some higher level masterwork armor pieces are actually more than 1 copper above vendor price, but the repair price is still on par or higher than the difference between TP sell order price and vendor price, let alone the difference between TP buy order price and vendor price.

When you have 80s and run dungeons regularly, it ends up being chump change to repair your non-80s’ equipment but the point still stands that buying a new piece of armor is usually cheaper than repairing it. Again, this is for PRE-endgame, as in the gear you use while leveling up, not your level 80 exotic gear.

The future of SAB

in Super Adventure Box

Serenity.6149

And to the other person that wants to quote-war me: that’s how it works, GW1 had limited edition releases, GW2 has already had the Halloween skins which were MUCH harder to get. It’s going to keep on being that way. Exclusive content is fun. It makes your experience of the game unique to what you have played.

As a disclaimer, yes, this response is not related to the future of SAB as much as it is related to the future of exclusive content in general.

That said, we should probably stop comparing GW2 to GW1, especially in regard to the Halloween skins. You say “exclusive content is fun,” and I would generally agree, except when the exclusive content is exclusive to Black Lion Chests (or other RNG-based chests acquired via the gem store). In that case, it does NOT make your experience of the game unique to what you have played; it only makes your experience of the game unique to the size of your real-life pocketbook and your stomach for gambling. Mind you, I’m okay with paying for content (I’ve been lured into spending about $200 on LoL, which I don’t even play); it’s the combination of real money with gambling that offends. All comparisons to GW1 inevitably have to go out the door.

Provide exclusive content acquired from achieving certain in-game goals, and provide exclusive content acquired from spending real-life currency, but let’s leave the gambling behind, please.

Guild Missions [merged]

So it seems to me that what all this really boils down to is the Ascended Gear.

If the carrot wasn’t BiS gear, then most small guilds would be fine with having the missions at their own pace, for their own sake.

If you didn’t have to grind out Fractals (which isn’t for everyone) in order to get a BiS backpiece, most folks would be fine with Fractals. They’d play or not as desired. Now I realize you can get a backpiece out of the MF with a recipe, but that’s so stupid expensive it doesn’t really make you feel any better about having to do Fractals if that’s not your cup of tea.

Everyone is equal when it comes to the amulets (despite how annoying the timegating is) because nobody has any particular advantage over anyone else, and the dailies can be accomplished pretty much anywhere just by playing the game.

See the difference, ArenaNet? People just want to play the game. I, personally, feel like I’m starting to be buried into an Ascended pit that I can’t dig my way out of fast enough. I think alot of others do, too.

Please, for the love of Guild Wars, stop now with the Ascended gear. We have backpieces and a complete set of accessories. Let’s leave it at that, and just get on with the business of making a really good game instead. That way, when you implement new stuff, people will actually be excited about it.

Well said!

(I personally set foot in Fractals only once, drew the possibly incorrect conclusion that they would be a repetitive grind once you memorized the fights, and left.)

The existence of the ascended gear is distorting, even perverting, gameplay both for the people seeking the BIS gear and for the players around them (just look around Queensdale at 4pm). It’s also changing my play from “go have fun” to “go grind”, which emotionally puts me back in a game I chose to leave.

I’d like ArenaNet to go back to making this the game I chose to come to, not turning it into the ones I left.

What’s worse is it’s turning into an older, less polished version of the games we chose to leave. Even though my previous MMO was a gear-grind, you could accomplish that gear-grind on the same level playing field. The carrot and the method of obtaining that carrot were reasonably linked (e.g. the carrot was BiS gear for 10- or 25-man raid progression, and your guild only had to be big enough to field the 10- or 25-man raids). Not so here, where the carrot is Ascended gear for 5-man Fractal progression, and the method is joining a large guild. The latter is nowhere near necessary for the former.

It wouldn’t be as big a problem if they didn’t make guild missions a much easier way to get Ascended accessories. Compare the following (and assume you have 8x 80s that need gearing, just as a reference point):

If you’re part of a big guild that will eventually have all five guild mission types unlocked, you will need only 192 guild commendations and 80 gold. The guild commendations would take just over 19 weeks to collect, and you can earn them concurrently with laurels for Ascended amulets (or tonics/pets/etc).

If you’re part of a small guild and aren’t able to earn guild commendations, you would have to collect 640 laurels and 800 globs of ectoplasm (market price of 240-320 gold). The much higher gold cost notwithstanding, that’s 16 months of laurel collecting, and you cannot earn them concurrently with laurels for Ascended amulets (or tonics/pets/etc).

The bottom line comparison is you can acquire amulets and accessories for all 8 toons in 6 months (6 months of laurels for amulets, concurrently with the 4.5 months for accessories) with a large guild, while the same acquisition would require 22 months for a small one (6 months and 16 months consecutively).

Considering Fractals are for groups of five, is there a specific motivation for why a team from a small guild requires 3-4x the cost in both time and gold to obtain the same amount of gear? Until there are other ways of obtaining this gear (i.e. via the Fractals themselves, or elsewhere), this seems poorly designed.

Mind you, I’m not saying ANet should cater guild missions to tiny 1-5 member guilds, but I just don’t see a reason why there should be an uneven playing field (determined by guild size) with regard to Fractals.

This also hurts the guild recruitment of smaller guilds. It was already more difficult to recruit over much larger guilds with 24/7-persistent magic find and karma boosts (or who could pump them out easier), but now…. anyone with Ascended aspirations (or even collectors of tonics/pets) will be that much more disinclined to join a smaller guild.

Same issue. Started after the most recent build update. Getting disconnected within 5s to 2 mins of logging in. I’m connected to several other things at the same time, and nothing else is affected. Also have my router logs open and no disruption to overall network service can be seen. Please check on your end; it seems like I am not the only one with this issue. Not sure if this matters, but I’m sitting in LA. My guildies who are outside of LA are not having this issue as far as I can tell.

I bought a bunch of keys during the Black Friday sale with the intention of opening up chests during the next event to take advantage of event-specific drops. Ever since the Black Friday sale, however, every event has had its own separate chest system, so there’s no point (for me) to using the keys unless something changes.

Like pretty much every other RNG-based gamble in the game, unless you’re lucky enough to get one of the super-rare premium items in a relatively low number of tries (i.e. you beat the average drop rate by a certain amount), you’re better off just buying the boosters, etc. directly from the shop. And if you do the math on the boosters, few, if any, are worth getting at all. I can’t comment on the Glory Booster as I don’t PVP, but the only Booster worth getting IMO is the Karma one. At least that one can really help save time if you’ve saved up a stash of Karma jugs. Nothing else comes close to benefiting you by the effective gold cost of the booster or key used to acquire the booster.
