Broke crocodile leading to Moto Breath shop

Serenity.6149

Was playing W1Z3 tribulation mode and because we tend to have a lot of trouble with the mushroom jumps up the big tree trunk (it took me 2.5 hours for the jumps alone when I got my shop achievement back in April), we decided to leave one person at the crocodile to keep him stunned, making it more “stress-free” as we would only have to worry about the jumps (rather than both the jumps and the crocodile foreplay). After learning the hard way that the tail can knock you off the closest plant, I kept hitting him to keep him from waking up, allowing my girlfriend to run through repeatedly, unmolested. I don’t know if this is what happened, but it seems the crocodile can “die”, after which you can no longer stun him but he remains alive for all intents and purposes (i.e. killing you, or preventing entry to the big tree trunk).

This is pretty disappointing, especially since it’s near the end of the zone, as it pretty much guarantees that anyone who has trouble with the big tree trunk will eventually bug out the crocodile after a certain number of stuns/attempts. =( =( =(

The most we can hope for is the ability to repurpose the gear for an alt.

I pretty much agree with you. I would consider that fair.

Take your time answering us ANet. I’m finding The Secret World to be a blast. You should see their awesome in-game store!

I’ve considered trying out that game for a while. I’ve heard the storyline is awesome.

I’d definitely consider it as a cheap, online single-player game. There were definitely a few things I didn’t expect and haven’t seen in other MMOs (this is subjective, obviously, but I liked the dialogue, voice acting, and the difficulty level of the investigative missions), but their support might be even worse, amusingly. Small sample size but so far I’m 0 for 2 on getting a response at all. To this day, I have bank slots permanently used up by mail that can neither be cancelled nor returned. =P

Trait tooltips
Traits will now have tooltips in the same way that skills do. This means that you’ll be able to see EXACTLY how long an effect lasts, what its cooldown is, etc. We want this system to be as transparent as possible for our players, so that they can make the best decisions when creating their profession builds.

Skill tooltips as they pertain to traits
As traits impact a skill, we’ve also made it so that as skills are impacted by a trait, the skill’s tooltips adjust accordingly. Again, we want players to be able to see these details in their builds, so that they can build their characters exactly the way they want! We’ll be using different colors to show this so that it’s easier for players to see!

I think this goes without saying. The current system where players need to test every single trait and skill in Heart of the Mists needs to go, but I have to ask… will you guys be going over all your tooltip data to ensure that it is accurate? Even if you add more information, if that information is still incorrect/inconsistent, it is still useless.

Also, please go over all tooltips for runes and sigils also. You have an ungodly number of runes/sigils that are either 1) broken, 2) vague, or 3) incorrect as far as durations or cooldowns are concerned.

Josh you are the man, I always appreciate your honest and straight forward answers.

The Arenanet devs and Community team have it wrong, they are way too strict and never give straight answers.

^ This.

As it stands, this is what that forum posting class probably consists of:

1. If it’s a simple to fix issue that is already slated to be fixed sometime in the next 12 months, respond with “This is a known issue that is already being tracked.”

2. If it’s an issue that we are unable to fix, an issue that will not be fixed within the next 12 months, or an issue that becomes moot because the Living Story event will be over before it can be fixed, then do NOT respond.

3. If you respond, even with sympathy, you create a precedent that makes life more difficult for other departments that are following these rules. They receive negative feedback for their lack of response while you are attempting to be helpful. Be a team player and maintain the blanket of silence whenever possible!

The sad thing is Josh’s interaction is exactly what we, as customers, want from ANet. Most of the time, even the pretense of sympathy is sufficient to smooth over issues and concerns. The silent treatment they’re clearly teaching in their forum posting class is only creating negative sentiment. I can only hope that there is sufficient negative sentiment sooner than later so they wake up and realize that something needs to change. Perhaps I’m not really voting with my wallet by continuing to play and buy gems, but almost every time I’ve bought a gem card from Gamestop or Walmart, the clerk has commented, “Oh, how is this game? I’ve heard great things about it,” and I just cannot recommend this game in good faith anymore. Instead, I usually shake my head and sigh, while telling them they’re better off not wasting their money. Josh did a good thing and ANet only reinforced their negative image by effectively silencing him. What a shame.

So a magic find set that cost a lot of effort and gave well over 100+ MF is now useless because you probably already have a better set for combat and all you get for your trouble is 20% magic find account wide. At least give us a recipe to forge the sets to boost us up to like 80% or something higher.

This is over-reaching and there is no point asking for this. The MF set you had cost no more effort than someone else acquiring a full berserker set. There is no reason why your “effort” should give you a 80% boost over someone else who spent the same amount on something different. The most we can hope for is the ability to repurpose the gear for an alt.

I guessed it was common sense that they only meant hitherto unequipped MF pieces.
Why would they make equipment already belonging to a character suddenly account bound? That would be an entirely different function than making tradeable pieces account-bound for the simple reason of preventing a (minor) economic meltdown by everyone buying up and hoarding MF gear to sell as Berserker’s et al later.
How you want to re-distribute your gear among your characters figures in exactly nowhere in that equation.

Your display of logic is too alien for me.

Your “common sense” isn’t very common, but let me put it simply for you.

1. They said they were going to compensate players so that there would be minimal disruption.

2. They boasted that they had us covered—that MF items would become accountbound and we could change the stats on the items.

The end result mostly benefited people who needed cheap Berserker/Dire/etc gear. MF users who were thoughtful enough to have a real set for group situations (and only use their MF for solo or zerg situations) were not covered. MF users who spent laurels on MF gear were even less compensated as they cannot even salvage their ascended gear.

Yes, it may have been necessary to change items to account bound to prevent market abuse, but at the same time, they linked that change to having us covered, which they apparently did not.

Missing player-sent mail after patch

I receive a response every 7-14 days, but the responses are frankly a little disappointing considering the fault was entirely on their end (I mean seriously, who would expect that logging in on every toon so the wallet can fully update would result in your entire mail being wiped?). It seems as though if you spent money in the gem store, you’ll probably get your gems back. If the items you lost were not gem store items, you’re probably SOL unless you kept updated records of what was in your mail.

Like Sonia, there probably wasn’t anything too important lost (though since I do a lot of market flipping, it is possible I lost something valuable without realizing it), so it’s more their inability to recover gracefully from the situation that is disheartening. The last MMO I played, even if it was player error, they were really good about restoring lost items. The only time anyone I knew did not receive sufficient compensation was when an account was compromised and the account holder did not notice until over a year later. and they STILL offered a generic compensation package. It wasn’t anywhere close to what was lost, but at least it was something. Here, I feel like we need to jump through hoops for something that was completely on them. I’m not going to threaten to quit, but I would be lying if I said my desire to recommend this game to others hasn’t diminished because of this and the many other issues with the game.

I honestly do not think this is something they will “fix” (though I wouldn’t put it past them to one day start selling items in the gemstore that allow the unsoulbinding of items). The lack of response is pretty telling.

However, I do want a response that goes beyond the poor excuse that has been offered to us thus far. It’s like yes, thank you for the clarification that the items are soulbound; I think that tidbit was pretty clear to us already. What we really want to know is 1) what went wrong, and 2) that the people behind the game we are supporting can manage good customer support, even in difficult situations like this one. ANet’s track record has been very hit and miss. You have the amazing communication from people like Gaile Gray (who responds to pretty much every post) and Josh Foreman (look at the level of interaction regarding Super Adventure Box). I’m sure there are others I haven’t mentioned as well.

And then you have examples of horrible customer service, like when the Crab Toss achievements could not be completed for almost the last two weeks of the event. What happened there? Bug wasn’t going to be fixed, so they decided not to respond to the customer concern until too late. Not even a “the bug is being tracked and we’re trying our best, but no promises.” I managed to luck out and get mine completed, but even though the bug no longer impacts me, it still left a terrible taste in my mouth knowing that this is how they deal with issues. It’s bad precedent, and it completely confirms what has been said about the company on Glassdoor.com. “Ignores issues until critical” and “poor communication” (paraphrased) are particularly pertinent here.

MMOs are a huge investment of both time and money, so customer relations is arguably more important than gameplay itself. It’s not enough to simply say “putting out a product is difficult and you should be happy with what you’re getting,” as some have stated. It doesn’t matter if it’s developing a MMO or owning a small business; everyone has it difficult at their place of employment, everyone pours their heart and soul into their work, but when things go wrong, it’s how you react that distinguishes the people/businesses that should be admired. Using Josh Foreman as an example again, look at how that guy dealt with the situation. I actually felt BAD for him because it was obvious how the complaints personally affected him and the amount of pride he had in his work, but he really manned up and I applaud him for it. That level of interaction, of customer support, should be aspired to across the board.

If you make a mistake, own up to it. Fully, and not with a canned response. Some people might still hate you for it (you’ll never please everyone), but I daresay the majority of people will appreciate a company that doesn’t hide from criticism a lot more than one that uses the silent treatment to address anything it is unable to address.

Haven’t you already got a lot of benefits from that infusion to make it worth the while – plus they gave you an option to still make it useful post-patch. You haven’t been robbed. The infusion still works, doesn’t it, so it’s just your trinket that needs rebranding to one of the now valid stat combos.

Please, stop the incessant whining over this patch… MF going account-wide was a necessary change.

Straw man much? The change to MF was a good one; the compensation to affected players was poorly implemented. Allowing affected players to actually divert their obsoleted laurel investment (i.e. character has no use for another stat set) into something else does not affect your gameplay or enjoyment of the game, does it?

Also, your argument about already received benefits applies to ANY item in the game, and is thus irrelevant. Remove the functionality of the runes/sigils you are using without compensation? Didn’t you already benefit sufficiently from however little or long you used those runes/sigils? Remove the berserker stat prefix without compensation? Didn’t you already benefit by killing/completing content faster? Remove all tanky gear without compensation? Didn’t you already benefit by not dying as much?

I think people are really focusing on those who bought gear anticipating the change and feel cheated rather than those who had a second (or third, fourth) set and now are stuck with a set they don’t need and don’t want to salvage.

For some of us, it’s not that we don’t want to salvage (even though, as you said, it’s hardly comforting as the return is very small), but you can’t salvage Ascended trinkets, so…

Yes, thanks for responding to the bit that wasn’t even at issue. Did you not read what I said that those people wouldn’t be compensated either way? The issue is with people in groups #2 and #4.

Also, it is clear you have quite linear thinking. If someone only has one character, and only needs one set of gear, therefore they won’t care if they wasted laurels/commendations? They are rich enough not to care? LOL. How about you stop speculating on how other people should feel?

Well we all can be happy, that it turned out great for you, but how about the rest of us, who don’t need another pve trinket set and will have to sell our accessories + amulet to the merchant for 5 silver, when we paid 10 gold + guild commendations + laurels for them, so yeah, there are NO REFUNDS, absolute zero, I’m not even counting my exotic magic find armor set + weapon I had to salvage, at least I got some ectos from those…

I can’t tell if you want a FULL COMMENDATIONS AND LAURELS REFUND, or to be able to move the gear to an alt.

If its the former, it won’t happen, because you already have compensation. Turn it into a second of of trinkets, like soldiers for wvw gear.

There are plenty of options at your disposal.

I like that you continue to force your opinion of what we should or shouldn’t do. People who needed a second set (and used the MF gear as the second set) on the affected character would not be complaining here. Clearly, anyone voicing their displeasure here either already has a WvW set, or has no use for a second (or third or fourth, etc) set, period.

I’m disappointed, but I don’t disrespect them. Making a game is hard. Making a game and maintaining it as well as ANet does is even harder. I love this game with all its ups and downs… I just would prefer not to be thought into believing one thing, and getting something completely different. Or in the very least, not being told WHY it has to be a certain way, and WHY it isn’t another way (at least in this case).

I was in the game development business for a brief time, and I agree, making a game and trying to constantly push out top-notch content that will be complained about regardless of how great it actually is is really hard. However, clearly communicating upcoming changes is not hard at all.

While I understand the frustrations of all the people here who had their hopes up, rightfully so, about the opportunity to respec and shift their gear around, the real morale-crusher is that Anet’s in the wrong no matter what their side of the story is. If it turns out that the MF gear behaving the way it did upon patch release was intended all along, then there’s severe disorganization within Anet, and a clear lack of oversight in what information gets passed along to us if several members of the team could feed us wrong information and nobody stepped in to correct them. If it turns out that what we were originally told was actually what was supposed to go in, but it was changed at the 11th hour, then it’s a slight to the playerbase even if it was changed for all the right reasons. It’s inexcusable, really.

^ This. The wasted expenditure hurts, but it’s nothing compared to the slap in the face that is poor communication.

There is a third possibility (somewhat related to your first possibility), however, and this is the one I’m leaning toward. I think they were focused on what to do with all the MF gear in the system, decided that instead of removing them outright, they’d allow the players to change them to a different stat combo, then decided that in order to avoid abuse (buying MF gear and reselling as Berserker gear), they’d add the accountbound tag to MF gear. They then announced this plan to add the accountbound tag. but it was never their intention to have it overwrite any existing soulbound tag. Under this possibility, the information announced was technically correct, though clearly lacking as it clearly did not examine or address the variety of scenarios presented by the playerbase. This possibility is the most likely, as it matches the stubbornly linear thinking already demonstrated more than several times in this game.

This forum is our way to communicate to the devs that we care. It is not up to you to decide from your high horse whether or not we can express our discontent.

First, I don’t have a high horse, there are no mounts in GW2 thankfully.

Actually, it is if the manner in which you are doing it is down right disgraceful and disrespectful. If you want your issue to be taken seriously then you need to do it in a level headed manner and not throw tantrums like a small child wanting a toy and then sitting down in the middle of walk ways crying and wailing.

And because you read my post how you wanted to read it and added your own words and meanings to it, I’ll let you know that it contained no ‘your opinion is wrong’, but merely ‘show some maturity instead of cursing and crying like a baby’.

Actually, when you attack everyone who has posted a complaint in this thread (and you were quite clear it wasn’t just some posts, but all), you are saying everyone’s opinion is wrong. Not everyone is “cursing and crying like a baby,” though you apparently have taken it on yourself to insult others simply because the issue isn’t important to you. Who is immature now? You have said yourself this issue doesn’t affect you. How about you grow up, ignore this thread, and let the people who want an official response to this issue voice their displeasure on the poor communication?

And in response to your other post about how we were offered refunds, allowing the entire collective playerbase the opportunity to buy cheap MF gear pre-patch to save money on Berserker gear is NOT a solution targeted at those affected by the change. You have several categories of people here:

1) People who already have all the gear they need and all the alts they need. MF gear goes to waste even if it becomes account bound. These people would not have been compensated in either case, and I don’t know that anything could be done here (I’m sure there are possible solutions, like a buy-back system, but I doubt it was ever in the realm of possibility).

2) People who already have all the gear they need on the affected character, but can repurpose the MF gear on an alt. Considering these people were going to repurpose the gear, they are unlikely to have bought a cheap MF->Berserker set for the character that was going to receive the repurposed gear, so your so-called refund in the form of cheap Berserker sets does not make sense here, nor does it apply when the MF gear in question is ascended, not exotic.

3) People who needed a lot of gear for their characters, and smartly bought MF gear for the purpose of acquiring cheap Berserker sets.

4) People who overlap #2 and #3.

Yes, people in group #3 completely benefited from the stat change system, except they weren’t the ones needing compensation in the first place. People in group #4 were somewhat compensated, though saving money on exotic gear is nowhere close to having useless ascended trinkets you spent time-gated laurels and commendations on. The savings per full armor set is the equivalent of 1-3 hours of play, depending on the player. The loss in ascended gear is a loss of a month or more in play. People in groups #1 and #2 are still screwed, with no compensation. So when you claim that we did receive compensation, do note the huge flaw in your analysis.

Just want to share a picture that shows one off the problems with the new system (love the new system though)
It is kind of anoying that you cannot transmute/salvage some jewels giving the time/laurals spend to get it, some of these jewels where Very expensive and required a long time to get the laurals needed.

Looks like the issue I have too, except that I can confirm it doesn’t matter even if the item was not equipped pre- and post-patch.

And I agree completely with the latter point; even if we were allowed to repurpose the gear… well, here’s an example:

I have a character I run fractals with who could use the amulet, but I’d want to use an AR infusion in the infusion slot. I have a second character who I don’t need AR on and could use the MF infusion, but she already has an ascended berserker amulet. I don’t think it’d be too much to ask to be able to repurpose the MF amulet for the first character and be able to move the MF infusion to the second. It would be the solution that offers the least disruption possible, and I don’t benefit unfairly either, as I’d be using the same number of laurels on my characters both before and after the change. Wishful thinking, sigh…

The lot of you need to show some maturity.

I invested in some gear too, wanted to move gear, whatever, I aint even mad.

You’re all sitting here acting as though the servers have been shut down without notice and you lost $$$ of gems or something. It’s really not that big of an issue, chill out.

And these ’I’m quitting the game’ comments are old and pathetic, stop the over dramatizing it makes me cringe every time I read one. You’re making a war out of nothing, sit back and get some perspective.

And then there’s the comments DEMANDING an instant fix within 1 minute.

“I’m a VERWY ANGWY paying customer, fix naow” – LOL!

You paid a one time price for the boxed version of the game, not for the future updates that weren’t even an idea on a piece of paper yet, you can’t demand anything. Anything not related to release content or installation or running, you CANNOT use that line for. Thank you for your understanding all you selfishly entitled people.

I’m not even going to comment on the abusive comments towards the devs who bring you a tonne of great content, albeit bug filled, regularly. Grow up babies.

While I also dislike the “I’m quitting” complaints, I don’t think your “I feel this way, therefore nobody is allowed to feel anything different” is any better. If you don’t care if this issue is fixed, good for you, this thread hardly concerns you. While expecting an immediate fix is unreasonable, what most of us are frustrated about is the lack of communication, which has been consistent issue after issue. You only have to look up the Crab Toss achievement bug to see how it was ignored and then swept under the carpet. This forum is our way to communicate to the devs that we care. It is not up to you to decide from your high horse whether or not we can express our discontent.

Well as per my other post. I’m not sure if my account bound items was supposed to be turned soulbound. I mean, they were not soulbound to start off with. I want my account bound items to be turned back to accountbound.

Just to avoid confusing the issue in this thread (which is about soulbound MF items not being made account bound), the preview stat change window does have a red warning that the item will become soulbound if you select a stat. Furthermore, if you’re wondering why accountbound gear would become soulbound in the first place, do note that aside from the two backpiece rewards, AFAIK all other accountbound gear (whether ascended gear, fractal loot, or MF gear) does have “Soulbound on Use” stated underneath.

From what I found out myself…. if you even open the “assign stats” window on an item, it soul-binds the item. I was gonna pass my Snaff’s Gyre off to my thief, but I absentmindedly decided to preview the stat selections…. woops!

This is odd, because I’ve actually previewed the stat selections several times on more than a few pieces of account bound gear (ascended rings, fractal loot, MF gear bought off the TP), and I did not experience the issue you seem to be having. Only when I accept changes does it actually soulbind, but given the number of bugs, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is a bug. Just a heads up though that, clearly, not everyone is experiencing your issue.

@Ironheart:

You said in your original post that it became soulbound after you selected stats. If that is true, then yes, it is intended and even in the preview window it states in rather noticeable red letters that choosing a stat will make the item soulbound. I’m not sure how your issue is the same as Kelnis’.

Hey Josh,

As background, I find almost all GW2 content to be too easy (e.g. world bosses, dungeon bosses, fractal bosses, etc.) when it’s not designed in a frustrating way (i.e. chain knockdowns, chain dazes/stuns, etc.), so I do appreciate difficult content. There’s no point in beating something if it’s not challenging, and I think you would agree.

That said, I have several observations from my brief play-through of World 2 (up until the frozen waterfall):

- For the most part, I felt the overall world design was quite entertaining. If I wasn’t actually trying to beat it (or to complete achievements), I’d have a lot of fun just fooling around in it.

- I was a bit disappointed about the roadblock that was the frozen waterfall. I’m sure once I acquire the upgraded candle/torch, it will cease to be an issue, but it was an abrupt end to our night. Some of us had just spent what little we had remaining (after continues, lives, etc.) on other things (like the flute) so we didn’t have enough to continue on.

- For how difficult World 2 was, I think you guys erred on the side of it being too long (or too difficult considering the length). While more content is usually a good thing, it’s not always a good thing, especially when there are so many unforgiving obstacles. I remember when I’d leave on my NES overnight so I wouldn’t lose progress, but GW2 is a different animal. You can get kicked for inactivity, you can randomly disconnect (either your fault, your ISP’s, or the server’s), or you might get random latency spikes that cause you to fail at the unforgiving obstacles. You have to factor all that into the length of your content.

- The number of guaranteed death obstacles is more pronounced due to the change in number of lives should you re-enter the game.

- A lot of the places where we died were clearly due to unfamiliarity, and that’s not something you should touch. As we get more familiar, they will become conquered obstacles, which is a good thing. The exception to this are mechanics like the bouncy platforms in World 1 and the spinners in World 2. At least with the bouncy platforms, failing usually meant having to repeat the last few steps, but with the spinners, it’s instant death. While you might suggest improving our jump accuracy, I’m not sure that’s a realistic request. There are too many places for it to go wrong, from our keyboards being wonky, to our connections, and finally to the game itself (for whatever reason). It’s simply too sensitive a jump, and sometimes even when it looks like I landed dead on and facing the right way, I get spun weakly into the abyss. Give us more control over it, so that if we die, it’s because we missed the jump or didn’t aim properly, and not because of who knows why.

- While I did eventually learn to notice the dart traps, it’s the dart animation itself which is hard to notice. I made the same mistake several times because I didn’t notice there were even any darts flying. I’m not sure if this might be because I turned my graphics down for Liadri or what, but it’s a consideration for you to think about.

- Lastly, I don’t know what your future plans are for SAB and its achievements, so this may be salient or it may be moot. Any reference to difficult games of the past is irrelevant if there are any time-limited achievements/rewards. If the World 2 achievements (and the Tribulation Mode achievements) remain accessible whenever SAB decides to revisit, then bring on the difficulty! Maybe I won’t complete it this time, or even next time, but as long as I can keep working at it, then high difficulty is a great thing. However, if there are rewards that become inaccessible after a certain time, then SAB cannot be compared to other difficult games we can play at our own pace. I know the World 1 achievements are back, but who knows what the policy might be the next time around. You’ll have to forgive my cynicism here because a lot of players were screwed out of the Crab Toss achievements for no fault of their own (achievements were bugged for ~10 days, with sporadic periods where they worked again), and while they were told they could complete them at a later time, the current Crab Toss achievements are only the same in name but not reward (and not even the same in AP). Any player frustration while playing SAB content would only be compounded by limited time rewards.

Just my two cents.

So i had an item thats not been used before but in my inventory, changed the stat and it became soulbound. I was planning to use it in a different char.

Yeah, you have to be careful with that. It does, however, warn you before you do it though. =/

Amusingly, I actually thought there would be a screw-up so that any gear that was equipped at the time of post-patch login would become soulbound right away, but I never foresaw that you guys would post one thing and (intentionally) do another.

From John Smith’s blog post:

“Weapons, armor and trinkets with magic find will become account bound, lose their current stats and will gain the ability to be double-clicked to select one of several stat options depending on the item.”

From Martin Kerstein’s thread post:

“Hey all, no worries, we got you covered.

Weapons, armor and trinkets with magic find will become account bound, lose their current stats and will gain the ability to be double-clicked to select one of several stat options depending on the item."

From Colin Johanson’s blog post:

“Our goal will be to have as little disruption as possible to those who currently own items with a magic find stat on them.”

Have us covered? As little disruption as possible? Your implementation seems to only compensate the very small minority of players who had MF gear but didn’t have a non-MF set complete. Everyone else got screwed. It’s sad that your implementation actually benefited people looking to save money on Berserker sets way more than those who were affected by the MF removal.

I think it’s time to stop boasting about how often the game is updated (especially when it’s only the Living Story aspect, not the core game, while bugs go ignored for an entire year), and start spending that money hiring devs or managers with actual attention to detail, who actually think “while this is a great idea, we need to be wary of such and such pitfalls,” and who don’t ignore the issues until it’s critical (read: sufficient negative blowback).

Wow, Anet. You led us to believe that our MF gear would become account bound so we’d at least have the option of repurposing our MF gear, and now you tell us that nope, that wasn’t the case? I’m sorry, but that is awfully shortsighted of you. You had a certain segment (players who really didn’t need another set of gear for any character) already angry about the change, and now you’re antagonizing all the players who were at least okay with repurposing the gear for a different character, and all for what? Good job.

Okay, ANet… We’ve got over 500 responses on this topic, so you obviously didn’t address this whole thing properly. Now that you’ve seen our questions and concerns, do you have any updates for us?

Considering the sudden silence after a couple quick responses, my guess is either they have no answers or they are rushing back to the drawing board. That, or they’re apathetic.

LOL, I don’t agree at all. It would be a huge unjustified nerf to those sigils. Those sigils do nothing after they’ve reached a full stack. It’s just as if you had an empty sigil slot after that. Whereas other sigils continue to do their thing. Compare the constant +5% damage sigil to the volatile +250 Power which disappears when you’re down. They’re already very much uninteresting in many situations where you can expect to go down very often, including WvW. The time it takes to build up that stack in suboptimal conditions, and the uncertainty of ever getting the full stack, is the price you pay for choosing that type of sigil.

If the stack is to go away when the weapon is swapped away, then 2 things have to happen as well:
- The stack should be back when you swap back to that weapon
- The stack should not be deleted on down.

PS: The subject of this thread should be changed to reflect its content.

While I agree that you shouldn’t have to rebuild your stacks every time you do a weapon swap, your logic that the sigil does nothing after reaching full potential is absurd. +250 power is a much bigger buff than +5% damage, and the tradeoff rests in the stack-building requirement. If someone downs soon after reaching max stats, the sigil would still be comparable to a +5% damage sigil, and if you can maintain your stacks well enough, the added power is already its own reward.

Guys got a question about salvaging blues/greens for getting mf boost consumables.
I guess using better kit will result in better chance to get these boosts.
Few ppl mentioned that salvage-o-matic will be worth buying now, what do you think?

Uh, considering most people already use the basic salvage kit for salvaging, I don’t see why the salvage-o-matic would be worth buying now? It’s not exactly a “better” kit, unless you’ve been using the crude kit this entire time. You’re not going to end up saving money (compared to just using the basic kit) for a VERY long time. If the exchange rate is 100 gems : 4g, you’d need to salvage 615,385 items before you save even one copper. To put that in perspective, you’d need to salvage ~1686 items a day to save money a year later, and I’m sure most people don’t come close to that in a day.

Salvage o Matic is not about the savings, it’s about the convenience of only taking up one bag slot and never having to buy basic salvage kits (oh, and it stays Account Bound even after use.)

Thank you for that “clarification”, but re-read his/her question. Something as subjective as “is it worth it in terms of saving space” probably would be up for him/her to decide, rather than asking the forum, yes? Not everyone uses the same number of bag slots (I use only one, two at most if one is running out), so it would be a pointless question to ask since nobody here knows his/her bag usage style.

Casuals spend the most $ on gems because they having paying jobs.

Hardcore players or players who put the hours in use gold to buy gems.

Without casuals no GW2.

how could this be true is the game sold 3.5 mil? where did that money went to?

  • Recuperating costs of developing the game
  • Wages
  • Bills – Building, Electric, Water
  • Equipment maintenance + Server costs
  • Profit

3.500.000 do i need to add anything else? Its not 500k we’re talking about but 3.5mil………… this is just sad excuses

Do you have any idea what the overhead on a business employing 300 or so people is? Do you have any idea how much professionals working on the west coast of the U.S. are paid? How much money beyond that is spent on benefits? What the costs of building space, utilities, etc. in Seattle are? What loans were taken out to cover 5+ years of development?

Unless either side is going to quote and debate the actual financials of the game and/or company, let’s not pretend either side has any idea, yes?

P.S. The employment reviews on Glassdoor are quite fascinating and worth the read.

Why cater to casuals?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Serenity.6149

Serenity.6149

I don’t think it’s a question of who GW2 caters to. If you look at the marketing for the game, you can argue they’ve dug themselves into a hole (whether that’s a bad hole, or a niche in the market is up to each person), and the hole doesn’t fit either casual or hardcore players that well.

No Endgame
- They’ve been pretty clear that they don’t want players to race to max level to participate in the endgame. How do you accomplish this? By either spreading content over all levels, or by making content available to all levels (i.e. upscaling). This is a two-edged sword, however. If you look past the marketing/happy thoughts, this also means a certain subset of players will find the game experience lacking at a certain point, unless they like the perpetual achievement grind of the Living Story system.

No Holy Trinity
- Ignoring that I think GW2 actually has a holy trinity, just with different names (control, damage and support) and poorly implemented in PVE (neither control or support truly matter), the current system makes it hard to design large, strategically complex fights that 1) require teamwork, and 2) discourage glass cannon specs and encourage support specs. Any incoming damage can be dodged (or negated via AR), and if they were to make damage spikes more frequent than the ability to dodge, the most popular glass cannon class (Warrior) starts with about double the eHP of the lowest eHP class (Elementalists) so any damage distribution that actually wards against full zerker Warriors will severely limit the viability of certain other classes. Yes, you can mitigate via protection boons, but in a group setting, the zerker warrior also benefits from this so I don’t know how they would be able to move away from the current meta to something that rewards players for playing support or control (often, in big enough fights, you won’t even get kill credit if you aren’t using a damage spec). A certain subset of players is bound to be displeased by what amounts to simply zerg AFK/autoattacking boss-level targets. The three methods GW2 has so far tried in making more challenging fights (more HP, constant knockdowns, and sea of red circles) haven’t really panned out.

Living Story
- While constantly updated content is usually a GOOD thing, it’s the lack of attention to bugs since day one that has many players angry. How can you boast about a game that is constant updated, when there’s a rather large aspect of the game that is almost never updated? If the bug support team actually replied to bug threads with the frequency of the legendary Gaile, as opposed to simply hoping the threads will fade into obscurity (cough, Crab Toss achievement bug, where there was no response to a time sensitive issue until the end of the event, and I’m not sure it was even properly resolved), THEN we can talk about how this game is constantly updated. I’m also not sure who Living Story caters to. Most casuals don’t have the time to keep up with the frequency of updates, yet many hardcore players are also displeased with the lack of attention to the core game or they feel overwhelmed by what has become an achievement grind.

tl;dr: This game is confused as it caters to both casuals and hardcores at the same time, while completely pleasing neither. The gameplay isn’t difficult enough for hardcores, but the schedule/achievement grind is too busy for casuals. My two cents anyway.

ArenaNet, you need to apply the mf% we are losing from gear to our account wide mf.

Everybody who bought or crafted mf gear bought it for the mf and not for the combat stats.

Its nice that you are giving us options on what to change the set to, but that still does not make up for what we got the set for in the first place, I am very happy with my build and armor choices and dont need a second set.

The only benefit I can see is if they turn account bound and I can use them on an alt of the same armor type.

But the mf needs to carry over to our accound wide mf.

Why? I keep seeing this argument and I don’t understand why? So that anyone who didn’t buy a MF set will be stuck with whatever low MF they have, while we have the same MF as before, while ALSO wearing full Berserker gear? Right. They just need to appropriately compensate players for the opportunity cost of acquiring the MF gear, not give us a permanent leg up over other players.

You can read a few posts up to see the rest of the conversation that I was responding to. Here’s a quote:

You’re not an official source. What the hell do you know about it?
Martin’s post seems pretty clear on this …. double click it, pick another Stat…

This is “new tech” and I’m gonna go ahead and bet all my Vicious Claws on it…
I wasn’t plannin’ on doing anything else with them.

Read it. I read ‘pick another stat’ as pick another stat combo. Not as in individual stats. Neither interpretation is the only possibility with that wording.

Like I said before, only ilr can clear up exactly what he meant.

Not that any of this really matters (so this will be my last post on the matter), but…

If you actually read the back and forth, you’ll notice that each person trying to explain to ilr has been advocating the ability to pick another existing stat combo, so if your interpretation was true, why are they disagreeing? Context is important.

Feel free to read the latest reply, which again touches upon exceeding current stat combos offered. Not meant to sound offensive at all, but it seems like you’re the only one trying to paint ilr as saying something he’s not. =P

Nope… this is just like everything else. No one knows the full details until it downloads.
If someone did know for sure, they’d also know what the new Functionality is too.

Nobody is going to give you stats that you can choose yourself. You’ll only choose the usual combinations.

Again people with ridiculous expectations. Then you are going to whine that they “said it was going to be any stats”.

We understand that, Anti. We’re not asking for special new stat combos. We’re wondering which specific established combinations will be available. Because from wording it does not sound like all known combinations will be available with this method.

Your opinion, which I share BTW, is the opposite of the sentiment that Anti was responding to. ilr was speculating about the ability to choose stats that exceed the available stat prefixes.

Non-MF runes/sigils/etc in your MF gear will stay the same, you are not losing them.

Just a suggestion:

Unbind all runes/sigils/infusions/skins in the process. If we’re being asked to change the prefix on our gear, it would be nice if we could change it without worrying about having to overwrite runes/sigils that may no longer be appropriate for the gear, or losing skins that may no longer work for the new character.

Just saying. =P

Received a response from support, but it doesn’t sound promising:

Hello,

We want to thank you for your continued patience while we investigate the situation that impacted your in-game mail. While some players previously tried the suggestion or answered the questions below, we are going to include those things in this response so we can ensure we have everything we need to process a resolution as soon as one becomes available.

First, to make extra sure that your in-game mail is not simply delayed by a full mailbox, please be sure there is space in your mailbox. The mailbox can hold a maximum of 10 mails from players and/or the Gem Store at any specific time. These types of mail are identified by a small envelope graphic. If you delete some of the mails flagged with the envelope graphic, other pending mails will drop down into your inbox. Please note that NPC-sent mails – such as those identified by a star or a heart – will not count against the limit of 10.

Second, please be sure to provide the following information:
• What is the exact name of the item you are missing?
• How many are missing?
• What is the date and time that you received the items? (Please be as exact as you can.)
• What is your time zone?

Our development team is actively working on this issue, and we will be in touch with you as soon as we have an update.

Thank you again for your patience.

I’m not sure how they expect us to remember when we received the missing mail, or the exact names of everything that was attached. I honestly don’t know how to even reply to the support request. It’s not like I was planning on having 12 wallet notifications somehow overwriting my mail and wrote down all that information. I can probably name ONE item with certainty, which is only a small fraction of what I’ve lost, and be guaranteed non-reimbursement of my missing items, or I can guess at the exact items and risk support thinking I’m trying to scam them for more than what I’ve lost. Honestly, I just want this to be over and as if it never happened—to be made whole and get back all that I lost and nothing more. To seemingly place the onus on the player to fix something that was the result of a sloppy game flaw just feels… disappointing, for lack of a better word.

1. You can’t net each 10g/day by playing 1h in average.

oh, it used to be quite possible. CoF 1 farming used to net you 1-2 golds per run from drops and such. At 10 min per run that means 6-12 golds per 1h

Now it is a little more “difficult”. You need to farm different dungeons to get the 1gp reward per path.. but then you have at least CoF 1 and HotW 1 & 2, which can be done in less than 10 minutes with a speedrun team. That means 3 guaranteed gold plus drops, I bet around 5 golds in half an hour plus WP time. I don’t know about other “farmable” paths, but i bet there are more.

And then you can farm Orr, champs, whatever for the next 30 minutes. I expect farming groups to get at least 6-8 gp an hour (being conservative.. I don’t sell all the matz).

Way too much selective/optimistic rounding in your example. =P

You’re using the best possible completion time, then using a very optimistic return of 2g loot (which implies lodestones, an exotic drop or a lot of rare drops), and finally a very optimistic return of 3-4g loot in 30 minutes of farming Orr/champs. If you used a stopwatch and limited yourself to an hour, from the moment you login/start playing to the moment to logoff/stop playing, it’s very unlikely you’d manage an average of 10g per day from your method unless you lucked out with some super rare drop, but that wouldn’t be very average would it?

1. You can’t net each 10g/day by playing 1h in average.

Well, I believe it’s possible. Right now, dungeon runs give 1-3 golds each, and some people do them in under 10 mins, so it is possible to easily get 10 g/day doing only dungeon runs, and I am not even selling the loot.

The only dungeon run, AFAIK, that people can still do in under 10 minutes is CoF Path 1, and you only get the gold reward once a day per account. Most dungeon runs are closer to 20 minutes and those only give 1g each. The ones that give 3 gold take around 40 minutes (for the best groups), if not much longer for your average group.

If you can squeeze in CoF1, Arah2 and one other dungeon in 60 minutes, that’s 5g, but since you’re running past most of the mobs, it’s unlikely you’ll net even another gold (on average) from drops. If you squeeze in CoF1 and three other relatively short dungeons in 60 minutes, that’s 4g. Neither is anywhere close to the 10g you think is possible. I’m sure there are other ways of making more money, but it’s not the way you expressed, and it’s usually not without conditions as well (e.g. a lot of capital, a lot of gauntlet tickets to minimize downtime, or not counting the other X hours needed for something to flip). =P

Laurel refund for "Gilded Infusion"?!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Serenity.6149

Serenity.6149

1. Don’t assume everyone who purchased Gilded Infusions ran the heck out of CoF and benefited from the purchase. I’m sure there are people like me who bought it as a long term investment. Would I be willing to return what benefit I’ve derived? Certainly! I’m not sure I even got 1 gold extra from using it (I have a lot of alts, and barely play any of them), but whether we’re willing to return our gains is irrelevant. Those who purchased the experience or karma infusions will continue to benefit, so why is a special exception being argued for the MF or gold infusions, beyond petty jealousy?

I’m not asking necessarily for a refund, but some of you make the idea of a refund sound like it would be so terrible. If you put aside the jealousy, you’d realize that allowing people to swap the infusion for something else would provide no unfair advantage over someone who purchased the karma infusion. We’re still only receiving one benefit the entire period of ownership/expenditure. The argument would be the same if healing gear, tanky gear, direct damage gear or condition damage gear was obsoleted somehow. Would people be arguing that you already received enough benefit from the extra survivability or quicker kills, while people who chose the non-obsoleted gear continued to benefit? It’s a terrible argument.

2. Beyond the issue of what to do for those who purchased an affected infusion, there’s also the issue of what to do with the existing infusions and their price structure. The MF infusion will probably be removed (unless they decide that’s one of the MF items they want to allow). That leaves the gold infusion for 20 laurels, and the karma and experience infusions for 10 laurels each. Clearly, something needs to change here. With the change to champions, I’d argue that the gold infusion isn’t worth even ONE laurel. Gold (or should I say, copper) drops from mobs are pretty kitten rare, and sometimes, it won’t even affect the drop. Imagine 1 copper and 2 copper drops being boosted by 20%… exactly.

3. As someone who accepted the reason why people farmed CoF, but also wanted it changed, I think it’s utterly silly that people are trying to frame this issue as a necessary one for the betterment of the game. Yes, something needed to change to move this game away from CoF Wars, but penalizing the entire class of purchasers of Gilded Infusions is merely a symptom of the latest attempt to balance the game, and not the goal (hopefully). There’s a reason why it, as well as the MF infusion, cost double compared to the other two utility infusions, so the claim that it was used to exploit dungeons is absurd, as is this “all or nothing” attitude. Why can’t we balance the game, while also addressing the huge impact the changes have had on Gilded Infusions?

I was thinking these mini-games could be unlocked as guild activities, much like guild challenges/rushes/bounties/puzzles, with a similar merit and influence cost/reward function.

Also with customizable options, like disabling KARKA from spawning or increased timer. Would make great fun for guilds to play around and do these kind of mini-games together, seeing who comes out on top and winning a prize by whoever sets them up. This goes for cool mini-games, like the Sanctum Sprinter, Aspect Arena, Crab Toss and future ones.

As much “fun” as it is playing these mini-games with random hotjoin people, the true fun would be to play with your group of friends and guildmates.

This is a great idea, especially since many guilds have merits up the wazoo and nothing really to use them on.

The issue I have is that they said they brainstormed for hours coming up with ideas for new fractals, then picked the two best ideas to put up for this vote. Now that they’ve said they definitely aren’t making the other one, that means we just lost one of the two best ideas they themselves said they could come up with.

Which.. was going to happen one way or the other, no matter which way the voting went. We were always going to lose one of the two best ideas they came up with. Just something people should keep in mind.

Hence my issue. I would have had an issue whichever of the best two ideas they had was killed.

^This. I’m not sure why they chose to do it this way, as opposed to simply having us vote for the fractal we want to see developed first. As stated before, Abaddon and Thaumanova were supposedly their best two ideas, so what does this mean for the future of fractals? It just feels odd that after Molten Facility, Aetherblade Retreat and Thaumanova Reactor are all implemented as fractal stages, their next best idea will be skipped.
