How about a system where bronze medal awards 1 bag, silver 3 bags and gold 5 bags? Bronze is obtained by spending 15-35% of your time at the event. Silver 35-55% of event uptime and gold for 55% and up.
A lot of people already gave a lot of good feedback, however I want to add something.
Using the scarlet invasion as an argument to remove loot from mobs is a faulty argument from the start, stop abusing it. Events that scale when 50+ enter can also NOT spawn champions you know and instead spawn 7 levels higher than players elite mobs… whoohohowoOWOW YOU JUST GOT LIT UP BRAHW!
This event, being the prelude to the HoT expansion should have different waves of mini events. First 10 events that spawn are simple easy peasy events. Next 10 event spawn are more diffulty, add new gameplay that needs to be executed or enemy attacks that need to be avoided. Next 10 events have never seen before enemys, doing lore stuff and say something hypey, prelude for what is to come in HoT, something players can speculate about. For the finishing touch, when the events are done a meta boss spawns but not something like scarlet during her invasion. Something like a mini mordremoth head + half torso + 1 wing coming from the ground. we fight it, need to destroy the roots of evil (heu). Optional*When the boss is defeated he starts laughing manicly and gives his evil speach and thanking players for destroying his counterpart zhaitan which allowed him infinite growth since the aspect of death no longer had a key figure in tyria >and all players move aboard the hype train<
Are you all fine with grinding now? Because this event is absolutely atrocious.
Anets no grind philosophy always only applied to ‘no gear treadmill’. Everything past that is fair game to them

Great prelude of the expansion
When other players see you with THE legendary greatsword from THE difficult boss, they’ll be in awe. I’ve seen it happening in WoW. When we finally managed to beat The Lich King and it dropped Frostmourne. We decided to give it to the best paladin in our guild. After he equipped it, we went outside of the raid and we decided to celebrate in Stormwind. Everyone was in awe and lots of people bowed when they saw our guardian walking around with Frostmourne. It was one of the greatest experiences in I’ve ever had MMOs and I wasn’t even the person who got Frostmourne!
So far as I can tell, it’s impossible to own Frostmourne.
You’ve been informed wrongly.
Besides, the point still stands. Such an experience as I described is one of the keystones of the MMORPG genre and one of the driving points that keep people playing them. It’s also the reason why many people have stopped playing GW2, because GW2 as it is now can’t really offer such an experience. The closest thing that GW2 has are fractal skins, but that’s obviously not quite the same as getting a unique named item with lore and a story behind it.
Its shadowmourne that was obtained in ICC25hc, also you got less respect for having this than wielding the twin glaives of azzinoth during BC.
Its completely useless to debate this topic from here on out. The arguments are on the table now, what had to be said has been said. Anet took a stance, legendary gear in HoT means you beat specific difficult content. Deal with it. There are enough alternatives for gear and no one will bother pampering to entitlement issues.

I’m probably speculating when it come to this but. How does raid balance gonna really works when it comes to professions?
Most boons target are limited to 5 people. So, with that you’ll have 2 guards for important survival boons, 2 warriors for damage modifier and boons (banner n might stacking), 2-3 eles for conjured weapons and might stacking perhaps.
3 Professions with 6 at least guaranteed spots out of 10men. The rest of 4 spots filled with engi, mesmer, rev, rangers, thiefs and dead last necro.
Engi and mesmer bring lots of utilities.
Rev and Ranger brings optional boons and damage modifier that probably can be replaced with food and utility consumable.
Thiefs is only needed when there is stealth.
Necro, all i can say is auch. Optional survival utility probably.Balancing is hard :/
Imo, raids should allow buffs to go to 10 man instead of 5. This will give a serious incentive to getting 1 of each class for the personal buffs they provide.
The system I describe would not force people to play better, but nor is anyone served by a player playing better. It would not force them to play different systems if they didn’t want to, but it would allow them to play as few or as many systems that they wanted and still feel rewarded for it.
I agree that every game mode should get their own legendary armor set (different looks on each set for each game mode however).
Your system however would allow people to get rewarded for simply existing. You do not draw a line on what is acceptable difficukty and what is not. You are insinuating that a silverwastes coffer farm should reward equal rewards to the highest difficulty levels of content that will ever come in-game which is ridiculous. There would be zero incentive to do anything because doing nothing already yields maximum results.

I don’t care about the ‘legendary prestige thing’ personally, but it’s definitely real, and something care about a lot. Putting it on a specific game mode is cheezy at best, and annoying. To that end I empathize with people Like Ohoni (even if I find them a little extreme).
They hate raiding and don’t want to do it but feel pressured to do so by Arenanet’s design decision — which was almost certainly the intent of putting legendary armor exclusively in raids. It’s reasonable to resent the pressure.

Well I resented grinding the gold and doing map completion for my legendary weapons, but I still did it because the looks > the effort I put into it. That decision is for everyone to make.

No one is holding a gun to your head and forcing your to clear this type of content, if you do not get legendary armor YOU DO NOT FALL BEHIND ON ANYONE. Arah armor for arah tokens (arah dungeon, now spvp too).
Living story items for living story content (and now laurels).
Fractal skins to FOTM.
Bioluminescence armor to terrible desert.
Raiding will give unique skins.
Just because the armor is legendary doesn’t mean it has actual functionality since your runes on different armor stats will have terrible synergy. The only valuable thing is the actual skin, nothing you feel nor your terrible arguments say will change that, this is FACT.
Also, legendary armor announced for raids. Ok. What will the vendors, unlocked by mastery bring us? What will beating meta world events into tier6+ give for rewards? What will adventures give for rewards?
First time I checked, legendary backpiece was fotm only, 2 weeks later a different backpiece available (also legendary) for sPvP.
Just because this legendary armor is announced doesn’t mean there won’t be different legendary armor sets for different game modes.

Daily reminder that HoT will bring a wide variety of new recipes into the game serving as material sinks. TP meta prices will change at an alarming rate! New balances will come up, all decided by the lords of TP management at Anet office (silk cloth was not a mistake!) Guild halls will require bucketloads of materials too which will serve for the new t5 gathering material sink. Precursors will cost roughly 100-400g to craft. Mark this post I called it all!!!

Imbued melodies is bugged: should reduce warhorn cooldowns by 20% but reduces the cooldown by 30%.
Also Heat Sync is OP, we stacked 1+ min quickness prefight with that in a 2 guard, 2 ele 1 rev party.
Imo, just remove glyph of storms and use those skills functionality on the warhorn. After some more time spend on warhorn, the skills are ok ish but they just dont compete vs focus/dagger.
Remove Latent stamina for a +20% dmg modifier when the player has atleast 1 attunement on cooldown.
Harmonius Conduit should also lower the waiting time before the player can use the overcharge.
Lucid Singularity should give stability, the knockbacks in HoT are pretty extreme. Overcharging attunements while solo’ing in HoT is beyond not viable, every mob does a knockback or a skill you have to dodge interrupting the overcharging.
Elemental Bastion should make Auras applied by the elementalist pulse conditions every 2 seconds in addition to their normal aura effects. Burn, chill, weakness, cripple AoE. (And not heal when they are applied).
Imo, the last 3 traits in tempest should be like:
-Reduce cast time on overcharging
-grant stability and protection while overcharging
-Overcharging has reduced effects but no longer channel.

If I never saw another game again with the trinity, it would be too soon. Just imagine how much fun Lord of the Rings would have been if all foes only attacked Boromir, while Gandalf stayed back and healed him and the hobbits, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli all dealt damage in relative safety.
You may believe, truly believe, that the trinity makes for a good game. But it’s contrived to the point where it removes everything that makes role-playing games great.

That’s also not how MMO’s work. Open world is grindy and repetitive to keep casuals playing. If they run into a challenge where they are making no progress they quit. Instances like raids are for more intense people who like content to be extended by challenges.
How is farming 8 million experience for the last part of a mastery not a challenge where you make no progress? Oh wauw, my yellow experience bar increased by 15% after spending 4 hours doing events today, Im really getting somewhere…

It looks like Anet is artificially prolonging the replay time of HoT and lobotimizing its player base by using ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE GRIND WALLS TO LOCK AWAY CONTENT.
Don’t get me wrong, the elite specs are funs, the maps look pretty darn amazing but doing those meta events 10 times in a row and spending hours a day for a week just to get the last tier of mastery is beyond mental. Also, which lazy person couldn’t make a jungle outfit for lord faren?
We will have more than the meta events to level with come launch of HoT (story and so on) plus we are only seeing pieces of the first map and the night events they said are not the ones they currently have in the game. Yeah, it’s time consuming, but that’t what I have missed about the game. Something that feels grindy so that when you finally get it, it feels great knowing you have made it there.
After I finished my first legendary (twilight) I felt EMPTY, there was no accomplishment, there was no skill, there was no pride only the memories of a garbage tier grind.
Just pointing out, the experience you get everywhere like 186k exp from a dungeon path or 23k exp for a skill point in tyria DOES NOT APPLY to heart of maguuma masterys. Only those boring events and kills grant experience towards that.
And if Anet needs to gate exploration behind grindwalls so people wouldn’t finish within a week or 3 then it is fairly obvious the challenge wasnt high enough and the hard too reach areas to easy to reach.

Specializations
Were they fun? – Absolutely. Both reaper and herald are great for solo’ing in verdant brink, the skills are seriously fun to use to the point where I would main them. Tempest was a bit difficult to use due to the disruption in rotation and the recharge timers are pretty obnoxious. Berserker was pretty meh tier, currently getting 3 full adrenaline bars takes more time than actually killing mobs and out of combat rage just evaporates while you look at it. Played s/d daredevil in pvp and it sucked for me, group fights are one big cluster of AoE and even daredevil doesn’t have enough dodges for that. Did a /point laugh at dragonhunter, that thing is just sad with those pathetic auto attack animation and arrow speed.
Did they Change how you play your profession in a meaningful way? – Reaper feels like a different class from necromancer to me, huge plus. Revenant is too new for me to say anything about. Berserker didnt change much for me at all, just burst skills charging faster than normal…. wooptiedoo >.>
Tempest attunement overcharge have pretty solid AoE attacks for 1 handed weapons but doesnt add much for staff users. daredevil is just the old acrobatics thief so yeeeaa…..
dragonhunter is just sad, bow just destroys the awesomeness of guardian, attacks need to land faster and with more impact.

How is the difficulty of the new hostile mobs, and are they fun and exciting? – They are quite challenging but not to the point where I can’t deal with them in zerk gear. those smokescales are fine but when grouped in packs of 3 (yes it happens) they get out of control with dmg immunity. Fighting 1 mob at a time is fine but 2-3 gets you destroyed, it’s also difficult to cleave because they kite a ton. The difficulty is exciting yes.
World
With the Opening of two new outposts, we are adding in a bunch of new events. Are they fun? – NO
Do the new events bring you more into the world? – NO, the events don’t the masterys do.
Are the new events challenging, meaningful, and interesting? NO, NO, and NO!
Massive zergs destroy challenge.
Seriously just make a reward track just like in sPvP where completing events progresses the track for actual rewards (for each map a different track).
interesting? its like im in a video game tv soap seeing a deja vu 24/7. The events are all things we have seen before, no new elements, no surprises, been there done that… all of it. Ok the lord faren came as a surprise but that red thong destroyed it, could have been more you know.

Is the mastery system providing a meaningful area of progression? – Yes and no, yes they are fun to use and allow for new layers of world exploration, truelly expanding on the experience. No, as in your philosophy of the journey is the goal does not apply well here. The journey =/= grinding out masterys, it should be: the journey = the exploration. Colin with his huge smile saying:‘’no attunements needed for raids’’… ye and what do you call locking out exploration behind the most atrociously boring grindwall ever?
Do you care about experience and mastery points? – In the current beta I’m starved for experience and have mastery points I literally can’t spend for days. But seeing how we have exp boosters in the gemstore it won’t change even though it is an abomination/atrocity/enjoyment kill that forces braindead grinding.
Does it provide a good framework to add more masteries in the future? – Masterys are a great way to progress characters, just the requirements to unlock the masterys are beyond reason.
Do you want to learn as many masteries over time to overcome challenges later in the future? – I want to be able to unlock masterys when they become relevant, not after I have cleared the same content for weeks just to be able to progress a little further.

That being said if you can grind out the whole mastery track in a weekend then it is probably not grindy enough.
The insanity is strong in this one, endgame content =/= grinding out masterys. Endgame content is using those masterys.
This beta turned me ultra salty like the text below can show, masterys are grindie as hell. If the only way of maxing heart of maguuma masterys are going to be events and killing monsters I won’t be bothering with that entire jungle ever.
Not at all, I enjoy lobotomizing myself trying to get to tier 2 of gliding in the current map. Also I don’t have bouncing mushroom yet and being in the current zone that is just like bliss because it’s not like there are any hard to reach places and the zone isn’t maze-like at all. The thing I enjoy the most of how HoT exploration is locked behind an experience wall. To me it makes so much sense that killing monsters, doing events where I kill more monsters or collect salvage parts, mine/herb/log materials makes me better at gliding… its like super logical totally wauw. Exploration totally sucks anyway, I only want to do endgame content, grinding out masterys is endgame content, using those mastery is no longer endgame, L2P.
Will there be a celebration hat in the gemstore when HoT is launched? It was there for free for a short period of time on GW2 release back in 2012.

Scarlets headquarters raid:
-start in sewers due to infiltration with ellen kiel, marjory and co. there we find the unstable chaos ooze, this guy wields all 6 types of dragon magic and the room is also filled with items corresponding to these magic types. The ooze changes colours to the current magic he will be using, party needs to lure ooze to the opposing magic in the room. ooze explodes at 75/50/25% into 10-50 smaller oozes, these oozes need to be pulled to the correct magic to stabilize it. During the fight players periodically get unstable magic debuff and explode (full carnage, no rez) + deal raidwide dmg if they aren’t at the correct magic beacon in time.
Scarlets defense line: Holo security fight -adds/laserbeams/etc etc
Scarlets laboraty: Mix/match between tyria’s races which becoming monstrositys. The combos we saw in scarlets hideout under durmond priory which where crossed out.
Scarlet’s luitenants: Krait boss, molten boss, aether boss.
Scarlet’s resurrestion chamber: A big tree in the center of the room with 100s of scarlets hanging from it, some incomplete others not. We deactivate the machinery controlling the tree, scarlet wakes up and we get to kill her over and over untill satisfied.
Gaile, please, I need a GW2 HoT hat. It’s a matter of quaggans and skrit!

100-250 prestines for a skin for fake prestige… hahahaha you guys are insane.
I lucked out to get a GS skin on my lv28, I saw a post here before about a guy still not having his GS skin after 2 years and someone with 1600 pristines still not having the dagger skin while I at roughly 400 pristines total got the dagger 3 times. Are you actually trying to justify that the luck of getting a desired skin equals 100-250 pristines? How many mindloops did you go through to make yourself believe this lie?
20 pristine relics for 1 skin is fine, also Im at 15/19 skins unlocked. If people get them in a less punishing manner than I did Im happy for them. Just because I went through a hellish farmfest for the skins (with a beyond broken system that I wanted to be fixed since fractured patch) doesn’t mean others should suffer the same way. I actually made the juggernaut because the hammer skin won’t drop for me.
The new legendarys will most likely beside the collection items also cost normal t6 materials simply because the market needs a sink and legendarys fill that role. For the new legendary backpiece Im assuming we will need t5-t6 leather/cloth/ore and infuse that with the dark balls from salvaging ascended as one component (personally stockpiled 100k+ of both leathers). Also keep your ore for ascended salvaging, its totally naive to think you will get deldrimor steel or bolt of damask out of those things instead of lump of mithrillium etc because the stuff we salvage now also doesnt give us bolts or ingots. got 4k of silver/plat ingots and 2k gold ingots simply because Ive got too many rings. Got 5 stacks of exquisite chrysocola jewels as well since they are dirt cheap while containing an ecto if I had to craft it myself for JC 400-500.
I bet you can make the fight harder without making the bosses giant hp packed marshmallows which get a crusty caramel icing after the patch. Make em steel wool marshmallows to stay with the analogy. And I mean… We have new skill tech and stuff for the specs ingame or at least we will get it. It’s only fair for bosses to get some goodies too. Imagine a boss with slowness pbAoE to counter melee burst stacking for example~ Good stuff!
To me it looks like you are a bit dishonest with yourself. Adding more abilities to a boss to increase it’s difficulty I understand, but if you don’t improve the HP bar with that bosses will still melt to 25 might/icebow 4 which makes all the extra abilities useless. A hard bossfight should atleast last over 1.5 minutes and that just won’t happen if the HP bar is made for starters.
And what the hell is up with people and their sick mindset of locking out entire playstyles for their own fantasys. To counter melee burst… pff, now you’re just embarrasing yourself. If anything, there should be more counters to playing ranged right now.
Here comes your first daily reminder that this Legendary backpiece if for FOTM players. Im also here to inform you that FOTM will drop a boatload of ascended (garbage) rings so the new crafting material will come easily when you are busy filling out your other tasks in order to get the backpiece.
Would be nice to have gold skins for lv51-90 difficulty scale and xxx colour for 91-100, for prestige purpose ofcourse.
Every difficulty level in FOTM from 1-100 will have it’s own personal fractal map (island), ok this will be different but nothing of real value has been lost but doing 4 maps like we do now will have a lot more zoning into dessa’s lab and back to islands than before. Also it cheapens the leveling progress to 1/4th of what it is now.
Raising the difficulty scale to 100. huzzah finally but I do have concerns abouts the required agony resistance that comes with those levels. A massive pay-wall from lv69+ would suck.
Giving more thought to group composition and build diversity with increased thoughness/precision at lv50+ has me concerned. Currently a full set of ascended gear is roughly 400g, depending on the armor class etc. My main problem is that even though we can now swap stats on ascended gear by using the MF (which is a huge boon, ty for that) it’s still a high cost mechanic that also destroys runes in the progress. If 1 gearset is practicly required for xx levels only to have us swap back to a different gearset at xx+1 level would be a huge blow to (my wallet) the FOTM experience.
Just a suggestion, wouldn’t it be more fun to see more abilitys/phases on a boss at higher levels instead of just increasing their toughness/precision/condi dmg which will simply force people into range? Congratulations, you survived a 15k hit with your pvt armor, now get a 2nd hit for 15k and grovel in the dirt like you are supposed to do. Although you want to create more viability for different builds, the way it’s discribed on the new pannel gives me the impression that this is not the way it should be taken to.

That fractal weapon skin crate at the vendor, is this a one time purchase? Because I can’t help but feel that whatever happens to fractal skins, it will devalue its rarity. But ok Im not losing any skins so this is just me being bitter/salty at spending over 6 months of doing 30-40-50 difficulty scale and still not receiving the hammer/warhorn.
The fractured patch, in all honesty, felt like Anet spitting in our faces. Had to be said and Im faily certain lots of players will agree with that.
The new weapon skins for prestige, Im ok with that and I need to let my bitterness/saltyness go. The current skins are so rare that they are worthless. A total newb could do a lv20 fotm en get a highly demanded fractal skin in his first try while others have farmed 2+ years and never have gotten it.

As OP already said, new map completion system will give more crafting materials + the new legendarys will use different crafting system than the current one.
Personally expecting the current legendarys to be the legendarys of gold and the new ones the legendarys of playing content/being skilled.

Imo, make LS1 accessible through the FOTM instance. Dessa found fragments of history flying through the mists blah blah. That way the story can progress in the open active world, changing over and over while FOTM has portals to old maps (servers) with LS1 active.

Race changing just need to happen, after several years of playing a race I just want something else for that character of mine and Im not deleting 3 year old characters or characters with map completion.
Overall I’m not overjoyed with the new LA.
Imo the best part of the new LA is the jumping puzzle with 4 keys. Really shows of gorgeous architecture (love the windmills).
Fort mariner + fractal portal spot are also a sight to behold.
I also like how the new mystic toilet is a sinkhole barfing players out when they reach the center, very representative of its function.
I dislike the grand plaza and trader’s forum, the open space with a lack of npc/players just feels empty. Also the sea creature buildings is a bit of a let down for me, as if I’m visiting seaworld or something.
I pointed out that the new jumping puzzle showed how gorgeous the new LA is but the downside is that you never really visit these parts for it’s functionality since there is very very little to do at those houses.
At the postern ward you have like 5-6 guild npc’s but they feel extremely out of place, as if they are private server NPC’s vendors . Could atleast give them a desk/workshop or something, feels very wrong/out of place/non-immersive considering the closed building behind them.
The dungeon armor/weapon vendor also feels very private server like with the selection menu.
My friend also made a purchase with iDEAL (Dutch way of payment), he hasn’t received any mail at all so far. He does have screenshots of his successful payment.
So I made a 2nd email account in order to purchase a 2nd (digital) copy of GW2 because a friend of mine is going to start playing gw2 and I wanted to make a fresh start with him for fun. Somehow I messed up writing down my password for the email account and with the not so real name/age that I gave during the creation of the email account (which I didn’t write down on paper) am not able to make a new password. So in short I now paid 10 euro to get an authentication key for a 2nd account which i can’t access ever, how screwed am I?
Ofcourse I will buy the expansion when it’s released.

Fractal level increase from 50 to 80, new fractal maps, fractal armor, fractal weapon box?
When is lv500 jewelcrafting coming and will we be able to make cool amulets with it like those poly-luminescent and preserved queen bee items (which can’t be crafted and dropchances are so low I’d might as well win the lottery)?
Are the existing legendarys going to get a final improvement? It’s just dumb to have a weapon like bolt to have such a cool electric aura and frostfang to have nothing, twilight aura to be nearly non existent and some legendarys to have no footfall nor aura at all.

I liked it, the hardmodes were pretty hard for me but doable after practice.
But…
As an ex-sylvari with a completed personal story line, my hatred for trahearne grew even further which I thought was not possible (that arrogant, AFK’ing leacher weed telling the new sylvari are ‘secondborn’ just ugh).
It also made me wonder why caithe loves Faolain. I mean, faolain is simply a horrible person (‘these animals / caithe I attacked this centaur first but THEY turned on me, save me!!’) and if saying dearheart to caithe is all it takes to get her love then really….
Others already said it, the replay value was poor (I only did it for the achievements and the pantaloon skins, won’t revisit it ever). The ending was poor as well, personally I hate cliffhangers and the only thing I hate more than a cliffhanger is a cliffhanger after a cliffhanger. I mean, oh gosh now wynne is running away AGAIN while we are with 8 plants surrouding her, c’mon caithe, let us RP-walk to where she ran off to and confront her.
