as a power shatter, 15 in domination, that will go well with your weapon set up. clones using sword will stack vul same goes with your normal attacks and with diversion you’ll stack even more. GS #2 goes well with stacking vul as well as giving you might…along with illusion trait line grandmaster minor trait you’ll stack vuln and have might when you shatter with diversionl…then just mindwrack for big damage. if surviablity if an issue get to know the F4 skill. i don’t know how many times that has saved me and that CD for it is not bad at all. PvE mobs should do no damage a shatter mes played right.
did they change the way sigils work earlier this year? i remember reading that sigils do not share same cooldowns now or have priority over the other. that makes precision even more important to have
dual wielding GS superior, all other changes inferior
welcome to the brotherhood/sisterhood. you’ll have to do some digging in the mesmer forums for tips and tricks. we can’t tell you how to play the profession, only you can decide that. there are some wonderful builds posted in the sticky and in the forum from various members of the community. try them all to get a feel of how you want to play…later on you’ll find a build and make adjustments to traits that you feel fits your playstyle. to start, i recommend you reading Lyssa-s-Grimoire-The-Ultimate-Mesmer-Guide…you’ll build a good foundation of understanding just from reading that…after that try a shatter build like osicat’s shattercat for hands on training…then test out a condi build like the infamous blackwater or the clone factory. i do not recommend using blackwater or clone factory as a first builds because i believe you will not truely understand the core mechanics of mesmers and you will not use those build to it’s full potential…maybe except clone factory cause it’s very mindless…although it is an easy build to play…you’ll will not get the chance to understand mesmer’s profession skills, the F1-F4 skills. after that…the lockdown builds to help you better understand the importance of timing and reading your opponent…and finally…maybe if you still like playing mesmer and have not gone crazy…you’ll have come up with your own build…maybe the invincible build. so think of it like this…the archtypes…F1-mindwrack-shatterbuilds-power….F2-confusion-P/U or clone factory builds-condition…F3-diversion-lockdown builds-crowd control…F4-distortion-your future build-invincible…yes they are out there…never die cause attacks don’t hurt them…except from retaliation nowdays since they change distortion from being invuln from damage to just evading attacks…isn’t evade like a thief thing? *sigh @ anet…i’m going to lay down again. never seen osicat cried out before…osicat always gives tips, playstyles and builds but never cried out for change in a skill or mechanic…anet must heed the cries of all melee mesmers now. i think pyro suggested a long time ago, to get rid of leap’s pathing and just have a clone spawn next to the target with the option to swap. like how iwarden is summoned…have the clone summon the same way..heck the clone doesn’t need to attack or even follow…it just needs to be next to the target when casted so we can just swap and apply that 1-2 sec immoblize and we can blur frenzy ourselves to death if they have retaliation up. i need to lay down…for a bit
try using the 180 degree turn key binding if backstab is giving you trouble. it’s under options/key bindings. when thf stealths and you feel a backstab coming…hit the key in odd intervals to throw them off. 50/50 chance of them landing backstab. i have to agree with calavel.6249…that lotus strike is a pain and is what really kills people with it’s long duration. along with thf’s fast attack speed…they can perma poison you while going back in stealth…waiting for either a backstab or heartseeker to finish you off

we need dual wield GS. Offhand GS skills 4 and 5…4 being backstab but with range and no req to be stealth…5 can be like decoy but instead of a clone you summon izerker and stealth caster. all in favor say “AYE”

careful with using feedback with the build strategy i posted. i believe if the targeted zerg has retaliation up…feedback will count both range and the confusion damage towards you
place veil infront of your zerg after stacking and right before the push to get a preemptive strike on enemies and their zerg. most players uses veil selfishly though and when they do it’s mainly defensively…to run away. does veil have a cap on how many players it can stealth? if you want to turn your glamours into something more offensive utility then 20/0/0/0/20 with the key traits: confusing enchantments in domination, dazzlin glamours and blinding befuddlement in illusions. you’ll have 30 points left to put where ever you like. works great on zerg play. good luck
initiate with the utility dazes/interrupts then the shatter dazes/interrupts …boom…boom…boom intervals…the mates rushing in to finish a player that is totally on the defensive now with only a dodge key to use…so satisfying and so rewarding. takes a bit of finesse but i think it’s because of DE being in 99% of the current builds out there (kinda like the frog in the well philosophy and i’m still hooked on that shatter bursting with DE and just got off my IP addiction thanks to shattercat heavy). i highly recommend everyone to play with builds that does not include DE to develop on personal playstyles

2k mug, 9k C+D, 9k backstab with 1500 toughness and the thf didn’t even bothered to stomp me…he just ran way…probably because a friendly neighborhood warrior came to help me back up. happened to me a few days ago…not even phased, nothing has changed really…no sarcasm and ty to the warrior that came to my aid.
builds and playstyles, it’s like the ying and the yang…the balance between the build and how the individual player plays it. this is a contest and a fun one within the mesmer forums. it’s not about the best builds…let me explain, some of us can play the guitar better than the piano…some can play piano better than guitar…but in the end we all make music…what about those who can’t play music? how would you know if nobody builds guitars or pianos? maybe some trumpets…or a flute…i’ve seen people make music using bunch of beer bottles filled with water and hitting trashcans. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8_Ts5fMVho

blurred frenzy will get you unstuck for mesmers. i’m not sure about ele’s. the bug looks like a syncing problem between client and server? just my assumptions.
at the mystic forge you can also promote or demote ascended mats from fotm. if you by chance have an extra shard you can demote it for x3 vials. recipe is the followig for your case. 1 shard of crystallized mists essence, 1 master salvage kit, 1 mystic coin, 1 pile crystalline dust. GL
if i can get 2 defenders out and summon a phantom from weaponskill and have restorative mantras with mantra of pain, try to survive until the signet goes on passive…hmm…i need to lay down for a moment
Evidence for recharging the attacks, not the summons: After the warden change, phantasms in general appear to move to attack range before cooling down. That makes this ability much more effective.
Or maybe I imagined that change, dunno.
happens to me all the time with all the changes in mesmers and theorycrafting going on in the mesmer forums i don’t know which is which and what got implemented or is still a concept? mesmers forums does the most theorycrafting compared to any other profession forums….if they want to argue ask them what is their meta? anyways i want to stay on in line with my thoughts and not start to ramble about the other profression. after reading everyone’s post on wether it’s a sumoning thing…this signet might work well along with the insperation trait line, shattered conditions or restorative illusions. i can see it freeing up our IC addiction and maybe…just maybe deceptive evasion as well. only one way to find out…i know a lot of you are itching to play around with this new signet, 4 more days…4 days of theorycrafting…if i keep reading the mesmer forums my mind get overstimulated and end up with a nosebleed from all the points and ideas floating around…floating in the forums like purple butterflies…going to be a lot of interesting battles especially within the mesmer profession…teh brotherhood
just a want to point out to anyone that haven’t played around with blurred inscription, the distortion happens after the casting time
hmmm…this signet is like a puzzle piece and everyone is trying to make it fit into their current builds. maybe we can figure something else for it and maybe new builds. we might see something like new mesmers running runes of dolyak and eating mango pies…it could become a trend? let us welcome our future new mango pie eating brethrens ! one other thing…1 sec casting time with that signet over our heads…could be trouble…should add a chat bubble along with it that reads "CC me now guys !! "
depend on what build youre running with and how you want to weigh it. think of the law of equivielent exchange and entropy. normal attacks with soldiers vs normal attack with zerk , damage is not to far off from each other. what you loose from using soldier is crit% and crit damage. what you gain is a larger health pool and physical attacks deals less damage to you. do you want to gamble and see if you can finish your opponent before he can finish you off or do you want stay longer in the fight and see who will make the first mistake and have their guard down. if you wvw i would recommend them for shatter builds using dazing/vul stacking and phantoms builds with runes of centaur…travelers for the luxury of %25 speed and all around goodness. since the condi nerf…soldiers feels like standard issued gear for wvw, everyone should have a set. when spvping for the first time mesmers starting gear is soldiers. only one way to know if you like them or not. get the set and go play wvw.
nice build and playstyle. it would be pretty COOL if anet gave us trait where clone deaths gave you chill like crippling dissipation does cripple. chill is such a good condition…maybe a little too good…
1) most definately. i usually frontline ZvZ as a mesmer.
2) the most effective frontline fighting for me is be at the head of the zerg next to the commander and lay down etheral field when both heads from the zerg collide. i find that null field works the best. i usually run torch off hand. i will stealth in lay down null field and have prestiege grant 5 members chaos armor. hammer guards i find like to intiate with hammer #2 blast finishers so its good team play. it is real pretty to see bunch of purple bubbles, the zerg glows for a few seconds. when chaos armor ends i blur frenzy for the evade and by this time the tail of the enemy zerg caught up to the head so i end up hitting a lot of them already. then i either decoy out or blink out for cd and rotation or help downed players in the back. but mantra of concentration might be a better option because the only time i fail at intiating is when i get CC right off the bat…usually from static fields and/or line of warding which makes my prestiege go off before i can cast null field. the second stability from mantra would be perfect for getting out after you burst/buff/debuf for the team and wait for your cd’s.
i want to test this out with defender and disenchanter along with runes of resiliance. interesting. hope it gets the green light for the next update.

i was working towards a 3rd legendary but got a weapon chest drop instead. i don’t care how my toon looks as long as the stats are there. nowdays i just spend it on my girlfriends cause i like it when they model new mixes and matches of gear for me.
this happened to me last night in 33 FotM @ the same boss fotm as OP. i opened fractals from the start. when we got to the boss fotm we had 2 members voluntary leave after a few tries ( <3 they are friends of mine that wanted the group to find 2 others that where better equipped, so that the rest of us would have a higher chance of success <3 ). we soon picked up 2 pugs…fought the bosses and failed…one pug that just joined leaves the party and the remaining 4 including myself got kicked back out to LA. the party was still intact minus the 5th. there was no vote kicking going on the whole time. hope the info helps.
interesting. i didn’t think you can over 10s with confusion. hmmm…thanks everyone for the info and testing. i’m going to do a bit of researching tonight and if i come up with anything that will make confusion more viable with out adding more condition points i’ll share it with any data i have collected. i don’t usually show data but it will be like a flame kittenant shield for me…just incase for those flamers.

that’s a name i haven’t heard is a very long time. nice to know you can use confusion on him, i usually try to use the troll, putting my coin on the troll and taking bets from first time running EXP mode pugs lol good times. now i believe troll is no longer there though since they reworked AC. i haven’t done AC since the rework and heard one of the bosses shoots a laser beam from it’s mouth…howling king?
But since the Vengeful Images nerf they’d have to rebuff it to make it viable for a slot too and I don’t think that they’ll do that.
that would make someone happy…someone that uses idefender…but retaliation got nerfed in general and vengeful images got a double whammy when they added a CD to it. it’s almost like anet is discouraging bunker builds that uses retaliation. the same goes for bunker builds that uses blind also…when they changed how blind work and added CD of blinding befuddlement…i saw no more rainbows…just dark clouds…and when it rained…i cried for the very first time to hide my tears in the rain ( T ^T)
wvw and geared berzerker with rings already? i would recommend soldier’s stat trinkets over knights but since you almost have full zerker from head to toe…just get athena’s ashes and the magijestcar journal because if you get anything else…sooner or later you will get zerker trinkets down the road

you all are wrong. 0/0/30/20/20 or 0/0/20/20/30 bunker build is the only way to go guys. let the build do all the work for you. minimal effort for effective results.
i think everything is going to be ok pyro. everything is going to be ok.i once had a build similar to your immortal mesmer but instead of going retaliation, this one went for blind and confusion…well…you probably can figure out the rest and the state of it’s build. i sincerly hope you update your build some way some how…bunker builds it can tell you alot about the player that’s my belief. i leave the forums to all you scholars. gg
PU works and is a staple for just about anything if you needed survivability, just depends how many stealth skills you want
i agree. the reason i would not use torch with PU is because i would miss a lot of fire fields that mates set up. the fields would end before the blast usually
If Mirror of Anguish and Illusionary Invigoration are receiving cooldown reductions from 90s to 60s.. then why isn’t Desperate Decoy slated to receiving the same reduction?
honestly…if Desperate Decoy got a CD reduction you will see this new build floating around and it will be named troll-spec mesmer….we will be no better than a thief

scared…like when shattered might gave 3 stacks of might per illusion. shatter mesies were doing 4k per clone with mind wrack. ooo the QQ it caused….even a few fellow mesmers cried out “NERF ME ANET YOU MADE ME TOO POWERFUL” now when anet does something to the profession it’s hard to tell if it’s a buff or nerf or maybe call it balancing depending how you look at it.
i swear iberserker was different. i remember it would whirl further and quicker before anet “balanced” GS and iberserker started miss almost all it’s attack during it’s pass…hilarious if anyone remembered..i think it took anet a few patches just to get iberzerker to do any damage at all .nobody used GS for the longest time…some maybe forget how good it was when the game released and new players coming in at the time had to deal with the bugs when GS got “balanced”. pretty sure about a year ago around this time of the year

i could wrong but before they changed illusionary elasticity, i swore that staff clones attack…not the clones inital chaos wind but when it bounced for a second time…sigils would proc. i could be wrong though and it was my attack that bounced back and proc. chaos wind looks like a ball being bounced around and it was difficult to tell which came from myself or the clones when all you see is a bunch of balls being bounced inbetween you and illusions…what say you pyro?…know if the bounce from a clone is that clones attack or was it registered as the players own attack? i apologize if what i’m saying seems to be garbage…actually outdated garbage because they changed the trait to only affect the players attack awhile ago. i’ll stop spreading garbage on the forums and wish everyone farewell and happy theorycrafting building debating…whatever you all do on the forums
