Need help picking a Condi Perma Regen Build

This is something I’ve been using in PvP. Easy enough to use in WvW too.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQRAsY3fjMq0yaHL2sQ1aABhaVA0uGu3u29QcDf9JrIVsA-TJhHwAPLDI4kAge/BAPBAA

  • Oakheart Salve, Rejuvanation and Healing Spring cover for perma regen
  • Survival of the Fittest and Healing Spring for condi removal, EB can be used too for even more removal if needed
  • Keen Edge works well with survival traits (cooldown and SotF)
  • Traveler runes have movement speed and a bit of boon/condi duration
  • Geomancy and Hydromancy sigils for on swap conditions
  • Lynx for more bleeds, Wolf for fear

I chose settler’s amulet for the healing power. If I were going to change my runes to krait, I would use a rabid amulet instead and put 2 points into Skirmishing picking up Sharpened Edges and Tail Wind for the swiftness on swap.

Incredible survivability both between the regen and condition removal. The amount of condition pressure you can put out is really good. It can be tweaked several different ways to meet your needs. Try preloading sharpening stones (30s to use) and using axe 2 for 10 bleed stacks.

Maybe another round of grandmaster traits that could be useful into creating new metas would be useful.

Burning enemies heal you? Yes please.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Litany_of_Wrath
Takes in account also condition dmg and retaliation.

Too bad I cannot make it work for me, the block from shelter is too darn good and especially when u block a nice burst and your might go up to 20+ from valor.

I wish the devs will revisit Litany as they said in the past that the cast time could be reduced even further but they haven’t adjusted it, and it’s really a shame because no one is using it. Also, even with a reduced cast time, it still won’t compete with Shelter imo. Having 0 stab in a medi build, using Litany = dead

Yeah I’ve always wished that LoW could be a viable option. I think these changes could help make it more useful.

  • Instant cast time
  • Cooldown reduced to 25s (20s traited)

As it is now, there’s really no reason to take it over shelter. The blocks can be too valuable to not take, and if you were going to take anything else it would be SoR. By lowering the cooldown and cast time LoW would gain the advantage of being a quick heal. The other three heals are on long cooldowns (30s/40s/40s) and take some time to use.

It certainly is a high risk/high reward heal by nature. If you can dish out the dps you will get good healing in return. While I don’t think those two changes would break the heal, I do think they would give more synergy in meditation builds.

Or Anet could just give it stab by default again. Never understood why they changed this. Every others professions’ elite transformation gets stab, Guard is the only one that has to trait for it.

By putting it on a trait instead of by default, they don’t have to go back on a previous change and admit it was a mistake. Stubborn balancing just digs the hole deeper, missing the opportunity to make things right and kicking the can down the road.

It makes it seem that we’ve gained something new rather than what we should of had all along. Even more, if it’s changed again in the future it will just take from our resources of available changes.

Beyond the ranger’s base HP (I think around 15k), your HP is directly based on your vitality stat. For every 1 vitality you get 10 hp, so 100 vitality would be 1k hp. You can play with your gear or traits to raise that. Toughness is good against direct damage while vitality helps with conditions (as they ignore toughness). A healthy mix of both is usually ideal in a train depending on your role.

If you use mace #3 and focus #5 together, mace #3 block procs first. Works well to cover shield of wrath to get the burst in, plus some try to destroy the shield but eat mace burst instead. Would work even better if mace #3 had a stun on hit but I digress.

We have only 1 piece of official proof and that is arenanets own statistics, its a bit old but thats the only proof anyone has.
And it supports the argument that Guardians are wildly popular, the most popular profession infact.

Further proof is in the ToL comps, if you want to bring high-end spvp into this. I dont have the exact statistics on the 2nd ToL but i did run the exact class picks for the first ToL. Guardians were the most popular profession, so popular infact it averaged out to more than 1 guardian per team on average.

Do i know if Guardians are massivly popular on all servers? no, i dont. But i am very familiar with the meta of WvW, Hammertrain. Hammertrain has been the staple for a long time now, and Hammertrain is an overwhelming number of Guardians.
But you’re right, i havent played against the lowest ranked servers in a while, at best servers in the top9. Frequently.
And they all, atleast try, to run Hammertrain. With Guardians being a very popular choice to say the least, amongst these servers.

And all of those guardians were bunkers.

Nerfing meditation guardians based on “a lot of guardians in all game modes” is quite silly when they don’t even represent those numbers and aren’t viable to take any roles.

That being said, I think a fix to lightning whip “stow weapon” bug/exploit would be a good place to start. Without nerfing intended mechanics, some of the over the top sustain could be shaved.

Warrior and Necro are the only professions with this kind of “earn ressource through combat”, so either both should have their ressource full at the beginning of a match or none of them. Since every other profession can use their class mechanic from the beginning, imo this should be equalized.

I’m okay with warriors having a full adrenalin bar at the beginning of the match. By the time you make it off the platform it will have decayed.

Of course you can’t you’re already in a match ?! The UI even tells it.
If you were in the Heart of the Mists, the “Custom Arena” button would be the equivalent of the old “Play now” button.

the old version, you click “Play now” and it automatically puts you into another match right away.

Now you have to go back to HotM, and then join a match. so there is 1 more loading screen.

This is probably something they didn’t want us doing for one reason or another, and is working as intended. It makes it harder to browse for wins and promotes staying in a match instead of surfing. Sounds to me like it’s one of the changes to discourage 4v5s.

Sounds to me that it isn’t working as intended. I still see many 4v5.

Ah, of course. I stand corrected. “Designed” as intended, whether or not it’s “working” is yet to be seen.

The many problems I find with Guardian

- Yes 3 reliable source of switness. And? You can have perma switfness, where is the problem?

The problem is that none of those three sources of swiftness can be worked into a meditation dps build. All three are centered on bunker type skills (shouts, staff) where swiftness uptime isn’t as important. Sticking to your target is crucial for a melee dps build.

Sure, it works fine in PvE if you’re running from mining nodes to use staff and 2 shouts for swiftness alone, but in PvP or roaming WvW there needs to be a source with more synergy. Access to swiftness or movement speed through traits would be ideal, as all 7 other classes have some form of swiftness/movement speed in their traits. Even a low duration high application (like 5s of swiftness on crit) or a conditional movement speed (like warriors) would be better than nothing.

That a WAY better point that what OP said. I can get behind that. I don’t play medi guardian, i play bunker guardian in sPvP, so this problem never occur to me.

Thanks man. It’s refreshing to see someone who mains a support guardian be able to understand the needs of a meditation guardian. Far too often it’s a split for resources considering the lack of potential buffs coming our way.

meditation guard is largely devoid of counterplay to the point where it’s obnoxious. not a single one of their extremely powerful utilities including their elite has any counterplay whatsoever, they are all instant cast.

a complete condition clear that grants them a complete counter to any condition nuke while giving them boons ( a la lyssa runes pre-nerf) and also is a stun break, a teleport that inflicts burning and inflicts damage and is also a stun break as well, a single condition clear that aoe hits for 1k that’s on a 16 second cd, and a 2 second invulnerability; all of these things healing for 2k each and granting 4.5sec of fury. you also have sc/f’s chains of light, a 2 second immobilize and 3x vulnerability inflicting skill which suffers from a lack of counterplay as well. it has no practical cast time (only 0.5sec, near instant), it has no projectile to dodge, and it has no noticeable animation to tell you it’s coming; it genuinely has no counterplay.

not a single one of these things can be interrupted, knowingly countered, or effectively prevented other than simply forcing them to be used and getting lucky with predicting them or something along the lines of that- and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing on it’s own, but when that applies to almost everything you do, it becomes a problem.

Meditation guardian’s bursts are telegraphed and easy to dodge. The most damaging skills (whirling wrath, shield of wrath, mighty blow, etc) are simple enough to avoid.

As for the utilities, judge’s intervention can be anticipated if you’ve ever played a meditation guardian. It’s usually used with a burst so if you see a whirling wrath or mighty blow start, chances are they’re going to teleport to you. After that the meditation guardian is very weak to CC as the only other stunbreak is on their full cleanse.

As a thief, you have access to a ton of immobilizes and basilisk venom that can shut a meditation guardian down. Once contemplation of purity is used the meditation guardian has no way to deal with either conditions or CC. Panic strike and devourer venom work well against medi guards.

Try using deadly arts more when playing them. The poison, weakness and immob are the keys to countering a meditation guardian. Try playing it more to learn it’s burst rotations. Careful of binding blades because it’ll pull you while in stealth.

Listening to advice given by those who main classes is usually more effective to countering it than complaining on the forums.

I wouldn’t just camp greatsword. Starting the fight in longbow can get some early dps in with RF and such.

If you’re using LB with GS you can use hunter’s shot to gain stealth to hide the animation of maul. The stealth can also hide SotH and SotW before you use maul. With the first maul in using HS, I’ll use hilt bash to set up the second maul. Use swoop to reposition yourself to swap back to longbow and repeat.

guardian was my second level 80, i’ve played plenty of it in PvP and PvE. see attached image.

as someone who has seen both sides i can readily say that medi guard is one of the easiest things you can use that rolls with zerker amulet. arguably easier (or at least more effective) than power ranger.

I don’t see why people think that because they have a level 80 of any given class it means that they understand the profession well. All it shows is that you’ve killed monsters and finished quests. Perhaps swapped at the end of dungeons, used tomes of knowledge or crafted to 80.

If you truly know a class, you would know how to counter it and wouldn’t be on the forums making OP topics.

Runes and Sigils Limit Build Diversity

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Shanks.2907

Shanks.2907

You can carry various gear and weapons to swap on the fly. The only thing that is factually restricting your build diversity in this respect, is your willingness to use/fill your inventory. Thus, you can be accused as the problem just as likely as the runes/sigils load out. They cannot simply allow you to swap them at no cost. Otherwise what is the point of allowing them as drops to sell?

If you made things work like PvP, which is one of the worst ideas I have heard in a long time, we have no need for a trading post, no need for a player driven market, and no need for half of the game to exist. Once you have one of everything you want, what else is there to play or strive for?

If the drops for runes were rebalanced, I think the market could still do well. If runes were unlocked for characters only and not account bound, there would still be a reason to continue buying them. In fact I think people would buy more runes because it’s not throwing money away when you change runes. Instead of just one or two sets, one might like to have many to choose from.

It works fine having extra exotics with different runes and sigils, but it’s not as practical when you’re using ascended/legendary gear. I can change the stats on bolt, but not it’s sigil when I’m changing from guardian (berserker) to my ranger (rabid). I can’t take my ascended gear from dungeons (scholar) and roam WvW with it (traveler).

The only thing limiting/creating build diversity is ANet.

That is not true. Throughout the games history, we have had “metas” change completely between updates. There have been times in which builds have changed entirely, and Anet changed nothing to create that. Players affraid to experiment in serious competition, outside of the “meta” is as problematic as anything Anet does or doesn’t.

Past metas don’t matter, build diversity is up to ANet. The best builds shake themselves out and become meta over time. What was previously meta that still is not, is so because it’s not as effective as the current meta builds. The more time that passes after changes that ANet makes to balance the more build diversity shrinks, because players get better at managing risk/reward those builds end up becoming the most used.

I think the current system of runes and sigils further reinforce the meta. If you’re going to spend hundreds of gold on your gear and put runes on it that cost 50+ gold, you’re going to want to put the “meta” runes on. There’s less room to play around with your build because you’re locked in.

Runes and Sigils Limit Build Diversity

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Shanks.2907

Shanks.2907

The April feature pack opened up build diversity by being able to change traits on the fly. No more having to go back to town to reset them for the next content. Bosses in dungeons could be traited for individually.

However, runes and sigils cannot simply be changed on the fly. They are bound to your gear and have to be either overwritten or salvaged to change. If you’ve put scholar or strength runes on your ascended set, it’s unlikely that you’re going to just throw away tens of gold each time you want to try a new build.

So, what I propose is something similar to how PvP handles runes and sigils. On the equipment screen, there will be a place to select your runes and sigils. Similar to how minis are bound, new runes can be bound and selected at any time or sold before binding. Maybe it takes 6 to unlock the rune to keep the numbers the same.

With this system, you can further customize your build for the content you’re about to play. No need to be stuck with some expensive runes that can’t be swapped or needing to buy a new set of the same gear just to use different runes.

Thoughts?

against thieves’ shadow refuge, i activate my bubble and they get knocked out!

Another good way to get a thief out of SR is binding blades on greatsword. The projectiles track through stealth.

But, if you’re using two 1handed weapons, torch is the superior offhand in a meditation build. I’d also drop all clerics gear, meditation builds are more focused for dps and not support. The healing power doesn’t do jack for the meditation heals either. If you’re using right hand strength (15% crit chance) you can focus more on valkyrie gear for the extra vitality while still retaining your damage.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQRAsd7flsApaolDxbI8DNR8gY9nWbqKw1/CmD-TVCEABLq+DBPAADOBANp8DQlg5s/Qb6HA4IA8wBBgUARsMC-w

Pack runes give 175/125 power/precision with ~50% uptime on fury/swiftness. Can be swapped out for traveler runes for more consistent movement speed at the cost of dps. Fire/Air sigils on sw/f for the dps and bloodlust/energy on sc/t.

Hope that gives you a few ideas to work with. Your focus with a meditation guardian should be on dps while working a bit of survivability in. The valkyrie gear works fine with this build, but might not have enough crit chance with 2handed weapons or if you took the 6 points out of radiance.

DC: No compensation for the 4 men-team?

in PvP

Posted by: Shanks.2907

Shanks.2907

Instead of punishing players so hard for d/c, an actual 4v5 system is needed.

The option to just deny any rating for the game because it turned out 4v5 punishes far too many players for the actions of one. It leaves room to be exploited to either avoid a rating loss for your team or to deny the opponent’s gain. In cod, “dashboarding” was used to avoid losses and if you had host, would give everyone in the game a loss. And it was exploited CONSTANTLY.

Now, if the system were created properly, a way to keep one player out to continue the match would be ideal. Simply put, when it becomes 4v5, the 5 man team gets an option to volunteer to sit out until there are even numbers again. This will prevent organized teams from losing a key part of their comp. Whoever decided to sit out, should receive max rewards/rating and maybe even a bonus for their inconvenience. If no one volunteers, whoever is out of combat will start and will be rotated in on deaths.

Sitting out to keep teams balanced isn’t punishment. It’s good for both teams to have a fair game and retains the fun instead of a lopsided boring 4v5. Instead of a system that only discourages 4v5, one that fixes the problem itself seems better.

Why conditions fail in PvE and why condition guardian is terrible are two different things. I doubt many of the people who are vocalizing for condition guardian want to use it in PvE.

I don’t get why there needs a “thoughtful system change” to continue guardian’s “burn only class concept” to make condition guardian viable. It would be sad if that’s what is really holding this class back, just useless shackles of what we should be.

[Guardian]Condition Suggestion

Shanks.2907

Just to revisit …

I think traits like Amplified Wrath are the PROBLEM with conditions on Guardians. Why? Because it’s amazing … tell me any of the typical condition classes wouldn’t kill for a 33% more condition damage trait.

I don’t think the issues with condition builds for Guardians is a profession problem so I don’t think it can be addressed with a narrow focus on the profession itself. It’s one of how conditions are implemented in the game. Perhaps if cleansing wasn’t all or nothing or if condition damage wasn’t a ‘flavour’ of damage and more of a ‘meal’, it would be more prevalent.

The implementation of conditons in the game doesn’t hold back the other 7 classes from having viable condition options. Guardians have access to one damaging condition out of five, an issue unique to guardians only. That is a huge lack of spread that can’t offer any condi burst or cover for the 33% burning damage.

Add bleeding on an auto attack, a 3-5 stack confusion/torment skill and maybe a 5 stack bleed skill and condition guardian would be looking pretty good.

/inb4 conditions don’t fit our class concept.

And if you can get some swiftness from your team or stack it prior to fights, runes of the pack give a great dps boost (175 power/125 precision) along with ~50% uptime on fury and swiftness. Fire/air sigils on sw/f for even more pressure.

There’s quite a few combos worked into it. Leg specialist with savage leap sets up flurry well, then swap to 100b on immobilize. If they break out of it hit whirlwind in their direction followed up with an arcing slice if they’re under 50%. With burst mastery there’s enough adrenalin to follow up even after a flurry. I prefer shield over offhand sword for the shield bash > final thrust combo.

I’ll also use bladetrail (gs throw) to proc leg specialist before using bull’s charge to try and give it a bit of extra reliability. Seems to connect more often if the target can’t move.

Rage sigil on gs to get more 100b hits in, fire and air to supplement sword auto attack. Pack runes for extra precision and perma swiftness/fury. Last stand for extra stability. Bull’s charge can be swapped for signet of stamina/dolyak if flurry is enough to set up 100b or if you just don’t like it.

Whenever an arguer cannot defend his position with evidence, facts or reason, he or she may resort to attacking an opponent either through: labeling, straw man arguments, name calling, offensive remarks and anger.

That’s a logical fallacy. It contributes nothing to a discussion and looks pretty bad when trying to defend using it. It actually hurts your argument, taking from both your position and your credibility.

This. If you play actively, the ranger has no target to cast RF on. Stealth is not an “o-shi-” card. If a ranger initiates RF before you stealth, you got outplayed.

this is an embarrassing argument. there is no such thing to getting “outplayed” by a build that can effectively burst you down within the use of two skills all while being out of range. this is simply overrewarding someone for being able to press #2 at a distance while supported by AI.

stealth is as good as a reactionary mechanic as it is a precautionary one. the only thing that completely voids this are ranged channeled attacks, which has absolutely no reason for doing so. particularly on ranger, this tracing mechanic alone drastically undermines the existence of sic em’ entirely as mentioned earlier in this thread.

That’s funny, I find it more embarrassing dying to a RF ranger when a thief has a stockpile of counters. Stealth as a reactionary mechanic is a crutch, don’t go admitting that’s what you use it for.

I think Ragnar’s suggestions would go a long way. Hammer is quite clunky as is and could use some help on the auto attack. The target can just kite away while you’re laying down the symbol and avoid 1/2 your damage. Mighty Blow is the only reliable damage on the entire set, though the utility is always useful.

I’d also like to see the light field on the symbol removed, it’s a major hindrance in PvE.

You guys mean condition applications, not ticks right? The latter would destroy stealth.

Why not just have all superior runes that pop out of the forge be soul bound? It would allow some gambling to get yourself an expensive rune, but wouldn’t shock the economy much as there’s no way to make money off of it. It might even lower the costs of the higher priced runes.

The only legitimate complaint about adding the telegraph to the attack was ANet didn’t stick with the theme they’ve used on all other ranger telegraphs and use an animal aspect.

+1. I thought it should have been an eagle spirit arrow for the tell, no wind up. It would of made it easier to dodge from medium-long range, but still effective close range like it’s name implies. It would of solved the issues of setting up a SotW RF from long distance.

Instead, they just recycled pin down and sped it up a bit.

That point of this thread was to address the issue of the small portion of the community that refuses to let people play how they want.

People that join Zerk only LFGs without the proper build and gear? This thread was made to address that issue.

People that join “All Welcome” LFGs and attempt to kick someone for not playing how they “Should?” This thread was made to address that issue.

Not sure what you’re saying here. Do you think it’s an issue that people of different gearing aren’t allowed in a zerk only group? Why should a group that wants to play their way be effected by someone leeching a run in soldier gear? I would say it’s the one in soldier gear who refuses to let people play how they want.

I don’t think rangers are in a good enough place to warrant only a nerf (PBS tell) on a patch where every other class received some sort of buff. Would of been nice to see the shortbow get some love to help build some diversity. Dropping the flanking requirement would have certainly pulled many rangers off of longbow.

I do think the tell was appropriate though. It looked too much like any other shot on the longbow. Can always use hunter’s shot (stealth) to set up a PBS > RF anyways. Can even pop SotW while in stealth so it’s not so obvious what’s coming.

A buff on another weapon though would have done way more to fix the “way too many rangers using longbow” issue over giving a tell to PBS. Any changes short of nerfing RF into the ground won’t get results.

i’ll tell you this Stealth is not a Reactive Damage migration, its a Active Damage mirgation , if you play stealth reactively you’ll loose out because of that said lack of blocks or Protection.

play stealth Agressively not Defensivly and you’ll be good the rest is knowing when to stealth before the attack happens.

Now PBs has a wind up to the cast. (kneeling shot ) you can expect a RF right after or a Barrage + pet f2 look the kneel and Stealth ether before or Right after make sure if it is right after do it instantly, or you’ll be the target of the Rf channel.

using stealth as a reactive damage miragtion goes against the idea of stealh , making yourself untargetable.

This. If you play actively, the ranger has no target to cast RF on. Stealth is not an “o-shi-” card. If a ranger initiates RF before you stealth, you got outplayed.

I haven’t gotten a chance to try it since patch, but since I read the upcoming changes I’ve been thinking about it. This reminds me to give it a shot tonight. < lol bad pun

It’s an axe/mace rifle build. With the changes to mace #4, you can get 22 stacks of vulnerability. A tremor sets up killshot nicely with a straight line you can pierce through. Throw axe can set up an eviscerate timed well with leg specialist. Signet of stamina to cover unreliable cleansing with CI. Burst mastery and sharpened axes to keep adrenalin building quickly.

Looks good on paper, but that’s as far as I’ve taken it.

Zerker Medis- rune/sigil choices

Sigils I generally have air/fire on my sw/f and bloodlust on my secondary set. Rage works really well for GS, otherwise I use hydromancy. I’ll swap to bloodlust/hydromancy when going for the stomp to get the bonus and chill them to delay their down skill. Maybe leeching or energy if I’m using scepter.

Pack runes for the extra dps. 175 power 125 precision, an extra 50% fury on top of what you get from meditations, and ~50% swiftness up time which medi guardian completely lacks. Sometimes I use traveler runes for consistent movement speed but you take a hit to your fury uptime and power/precision.
