My issues are with the mask and the bow too. I had to buy a makeover kit for my thief to feel like I didn’t waste 700 gems on the outfit.

And then another makeover kit for my engi to keep the male/female ratio intact.

Err, you were saying that deployable turrets does allow odd turret placement ON surfaces, which a dev testified to be intentionally. Thank you for pointing out the obvious.
That has -almost- nothing to do with hanging turrets midair. Last time i checked players are not able to hover, so I guess even tho the dev commented on a thread, discussing oddly placed turrets, he was more focusing on the DT trait, than on mid-air floating turrets that players physically DON’T can place themselves on…
Please link the the thread in question so I get a look on the actual post from the dev, because “Ages ago some guys discussed this with a dev, and they were totally agreeing on this one being allowed” is not a phrase I’d like to risk a ban over.
Meanwhile: watch your language.

Yeah, I’d wait for an official response before utilizing it. If it smells like an exploit, it probably is an exploit.

However, threads like these usually spread the exploit (though minor in this case) rather than sending it directly into bug fixes (though you did both). I wouldn’t be surprised if you find midair turrets for a while.

Surprised it hasn’t been deleted by a mod. Shows how often they frequent the engi forums.

I like the looks of a few of them. The warhorn and torch are interesting, and I really like how the staff compacts when stowed. Besides that, nothing really special.

You’re right though, the phoenix skins looked terrible. They had gaudy effects, and just looked cheap. There’s a fine line to what looks good and what doesn’t. The tormented skins, for example, looked so good because they were simple and refined. They had good curves without an excess of effects.

I was really hoping to spend my tickets I’ve been hoarding but I don’t think I’ll get anything besides the staff.

Well, that’s a ton of HP. Could get it over 30k with guard slayer in WvW. A sentinel weapon would give you an extra 500 HP too.

Condition cleansing looks good between purging flames and virtue of resolve.

I’d consider dropping wall of reflection for stand your ground. Dropping a hallowed ground in the right place can be clutch, changing the tide of the battle. Wall of reflection too though, so there’s nothing wrong with running all three consecrations.

An energy sigil on both weapons would work well for dodge heals like archon suggested. I’d also consider sigil of renewal for extra healing on swaps.

If sustain is an issue, you could drop force of will (4k HP) for AH. Less health, but should help keep you alive.

What a well thought out post, Ralkuth. I think if that was the OP instead of simply bashing SoR, this may be a better conversation. Most people are arguing against the original poster himself and his attitude and not about shelter/SoR.

It creates a sense of hostility that makes people defend what they’ve been using all this time, instead of giving them solid information to make a better decision. No one wants to be told how to play, especially when it’s in a condescending tone.

Yeah, this outfit is nowhere near the quality of the ancestral outfit.

I think being able to hide your shoulders would go a long way on this outfit. It’s not as simple as enabling it though. The outfit was probably designed to be one skin, and so it doesn’t break down into shoulders, gloves, chest, etc. It only breaks down into head and body.

It’s a shame, I don’t think I’ll be using it often. Looks good on asuran males, though I don’t see my warrior running a ninja outfit.

solution is to make karma items salavge to produce karma, and wvw items salvage to produce badges.

That’s actually not a terrible solution. What I had in mind was just make the salvage table zero materials, and only give the rune/sigil back on salvage (depending on kit used).

Though, it’s not like this is a new problem. I even made a thread before the wardrobe patch went live about the workaround (transmutation crystals) being lost.

perc stat to crit chance.

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Shanks.2907

Shanks.2907

Well, critical chance is built on a sliding scale. The more points you invest into precision, the less worth it that it becomes. Generally I aim for 50% and focus on power. A crit isn’t going to hit hard if you don’t have any power to begin with. On top of that, fury adds a constant 20%, whether you have 10% or 90%, so it’s good to utilize what access to fury you have.

And yes, your ferocity (crit damage) is used every time you crit. But, if the power isn’t there in the first place you’d just be multiplying a lower number. It really is a balancing act to find the most effective gear placement.

And as for myself, I generally don’t worry about which stats I get from my traits. It’s more of a bonus if it adds up nicely. The backbone of your build is in choosing your traits carefully, and arbitrarily throwing points into lines based on stats alone will do you less good in the end. Use your gear to determine your stats.

I always keep shelter on hand, but I do think it could use some tweaking on interrupts. In PvP there might only be a handful of unblockable stuns, but PvE has tons. Like tequatl’s waves for instance.

I get that it has to go on full cooldown after because you were blocking and got something from it. Maybe the heal is given in the middle instead of the end, or split the heal up into three chunks over the block.

In my opinion it sucks, but the benefits far outweigh the risks. A well placed shelter with a dps build can stack up some serious might.

Opinion on my AH build?

Shanks.2907

Purging flames works well for condis. I would add one other type of removal, perhaps absolute resolution (4 in virtues “IX”) that removes three on use, which you can recharge with your elite. Pure of Voice works alright if combined with trooper runes and 2+ shouts. You could also put in contemplation of purity (turns all condis into boons, 60s cooldown) for an emergency cleanse. I usually try to take 2 out of the 4 methods in a zerg build.

Hallowed ground also works well with AH. It provides a lot of stability over time, so if it’s placed well it can keep you standing up. I’ll swap HG out for CoP if I need more condi removal.

And you really don’t need any healing power, at all. AH scales horribly with healing power, maybe an extra 10-15 hp per boon with max healing power. You’re better off with vitality on PVT gear or precision on knights.

For zerg use. Tag and damage as many enemies as possible. When people start dying, spam virtue of justice (recharge on kill) giving 3 might stacks to allies, 3 vuln stacks and a blind each use.

It definitely rides on the zerg, but can give some great support and damage if played well. You can use two staffs and swap to get sigil bonuses. Make sure to map the AA, VoJ and auto loot next to each other because you’ll be spamming all three.

I really like where the sword is, and adding bleed even if through traits could throw it’s balance off and result in nerfing.

What would you think of giving an bonuses to groups between 10-15 people to discourage large zergs? Here’s how it would work:

Commander can form either an open platoon or a private platoon. (private platoon by invite)
Commanders of platoons will only be shown to other commanders on map. (and platoon members)
Commander can chose from different bonuses to give the platoon.

Bonuses could range from carrying extra supply, to increased attributes.

Of course, there would have to be some sort of measures to creating platoons and zerging them together. Possibly cancel out the bonuses when coming within a set distance of each other. Now the bonuses shouldn’t be so overwhelming, but enough to have an impact.

There are 6/8 classes with access to the 25% movement speed buff through traits or signets. If we shouldn’t get the 25% movement speed bonus at all, why is it available through runes?

There is no mechanic that has limitations on runes for classes. No one said Guardians can’t have speed buffs (we have one on the staff remember). It’s about implementation and that particular implementation does work in the class concept because it’s a skill that provides support to the team. A virtue speed buff does not.

Cripple/Immobilize or controlling other players movement; this is the way to address the deficiency without breaking Guardian concept.

Not talking about swiftness here. Only the general 25% speed boost. If it’s something that breaks the class concept of guardian, then they screwed the pooch making the 6th rune bonus a speed boost.

The point is that rune aren’t connected to the concept of the profession, so where the runes give a flat speed boost or an increase through some other mechanic that increases movement speed is moot.

I don’t see how the profession concept is ruined by providing a non-profession related item that could compensate. I do see how the profession concept is ruined by providing compensation through a uniquely profession related element. Maybe that’s academic and a little diversion from the topic but I think it’s a subtle distinction worth making. Profession concepts aren’t corrupted by gear choices.

So you clip out the quote TWICE where I agree with you about movement speed not belonging on virtues, and then place your whole argument on movement speed ruining the profession concept? I’m not sure why you’ve even quoted me in the first place. I was only making a simple point to begin with, but if I’m going to have to spell this out I will.

Runes have to be made with all classes in mind. Especially in PvP, runes are introduced that won’t compromise profession mechanics. Take the runes of perplexity for example. Adding confusion to a class like necromancer, would of ruined it’s very balance. And yet, the runes of the traveler haven’t broken the guardian yet.

It’s not that it should be limited from guardians and mesmers, but rather that the bonus on runes should never have been made in the first place. And now that they are available, there’s no reason why 2 out of 8 classes don’t have natural access.

And well, I won’t disagree that the 25% movement speed doesn’t belong on virtues. It’s a nice idea but sounds like wanting two things and just lumping them together.

Personally, I’d either like to see it as an elite signet, or a adept major trait in radiance.

A Designer's viewpoint: Condition Caps

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shanks.2907

Shanks.2907

So If I read that correctly, as say bleed, stacks, everyone who adds to the stack deals damage as if they applied the full stack? Of course based on their own condition damage modifier.

So lets say if 1 stack of bleed ticks for 10 damage/sec, than 25 stacks would tick for 250 damage/sec. Sor for 5 people in a dungeon, each one applies bleed, than each person would deal bleed damage of 250 dam/sec for a total 1250 dam/sec. Now if everyone was using a condition build the bleed dam/sec increases to say 200 per tick for a party total of 25000 dam/sec. Which is faster than the current beserk meta dps builds, and thats JUST bleed damage in a 5 person group. Bosses would melt faster than a snow ball in hell. Add that to a world boss, and they quickly become puddles of goo without even trying, as bleed damage would be in the hundreds of thousands per tick. It would be a disaster.

To Fix the current problem with caps would either to raise/remove them and have a personal stack limit so one person couldn’t have moor than 25 stacks, or figure out a way to only have the conditions of the highest condition damage apply. So if you are running a power build asked do incidental bleed, your bleeds wouldn’t apply unless you were geared/traited for condition and/or bleed damage.

I don’t think that’s where the OP was going with this. His idea was that if there was a full stack (25 bleeds) that each one after would increase it’s intensity. But really, it’s far too roundabout and taxing on the system.

And I think your math is quite off. For starters, the bleeds don’t tick for 10 damage a second, ever. Maybe in queensdale when you’re just starting. Also, each person more than likely will not be sustaining 25 stacks of bleeding themselves. And I’m really not seeing how you got to 25k dmg/s from a party of 5. That sounds more like 25 stacks of 25 stacks of bleeding.

It will only do as much damage as the build can put out. It’s not different than a berserker doing it’s damage. The reason why there is a cap on bleeding is not because it’s overpowered in PvE, but that it’s a lot of calculations to make. There’s duration and condition power mixed in from multiple sources.

I think this is the wrong way to go about it though. An elite signet with the 25% bonus would be much better, imo.

And a “crippling” 4th virtue would be nice.

A Designer's viewpoint: Condition Caps

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shanks.2907

Shanks.2907

Easiest solution in my mind would be:

When bleeding hits 25 stacks, it becomes a new condition “hemorrhaging”. This wipes the bleed stack down to 0, but taking the total damage of the 25 stacks and timing it out over 10 seconds. This is a good solution for two reasons. Individual bleed counters don’t need to be calculated lessening the burden on the system. Second, not all bleeds are equal. Some may be 2 seconds with 0 condition power, some may be 8 seconds with 1200 condition power. With this, you’re only outputting the intended damage of your group’s builds. No different than how a group of berserkers stack their damage.

This is a great way to promote build diversity in PvE. And I don’t think it would effect WvW or PvP at all. Firstly, it’s easy enough to have a split and leave the player cap to 25 stacks of bleeding. But besides that, even if the second stack was started it’s on long enough timer to be cleansed. And you’re probably going to be dead anyways if a group got 25 stacks of bleeding on you and other conditions covering it.

Staff question

in Guardian

Shanks.2907

It’s generally a support weapon only (and a very good one at that in the right builds). The highest potential fit damage is probably in a permeating wrath build. Just auto attacking and running through zergs or large events can let you burn all the things. But, then again, you can do that with most other weapons also. Staffs auto just make it easier to tag.

Thank you sir. I think I will focus on healing toughness and vitality with sigils that have to do with group support and healing.

Just because it’s a support oriented weapon, doesn’t mean you need to use healing power, toughness or vitality. The support it gives with empower (might stacks, small heal) and the swiftness symbol work just as well in berserker or knight gear.

It all depends on what you’re using it for. In open world events, a berserker setup is probably best. In WvW, you’re going to want either knight, sentinel or soldier gear. Healing power will do very little for you with it’s terrible scaling.

Race Makeover Kit

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shanks.2907

Shanks.2907

Really don’t see it happening. It would be nice, but its unlikely.

As the above poster mentioned, Personal Story would be a major hurdle. Though I’d be okay with a complete storyline reset if that were the only issue. Another issue is that it forces people that REALLY want to play another race, to roll another character. Which in turn means more $$$ for character slots.

I would also be worried over too many people going Human main with a kit like this. We’re already at a point where ArenaNet is putting more time on improving human armor, skins, hair, etc. They’ve admitted as much. So imagine players that know it and just want to be on the only race ArenaNet cares to create good armor, styles on? I know it wouldn’t be everyone, that many would switch to races other than human, I’m just worried that too many would turn to the majority.

Personal story is a non issue, really. Just reset the progress, as it’s a different race.

If priced around 500 gems for a race change, they’d easily make more money off of that than on people rerolling and buying an extra character slot. You only buy a character slot once per character, but you can change your race multiple times for a single toon, making more $$$.

And really I think it would go a long way to alleviate the overpopulation of humans. I myself have more humans than I want and would love to diversify. I just deleted my level 80 warrior for an asuran a couple weeks ago. I can’t do that on my main (human guardian) because of map completion, but I would buy a race kit to change it. I’d also change my ranger’s race too because I’m certainly not going to level another one.

Deitus, I would take Obal and Rangersix’s suggestions. They put support into context for gw2 and how it can be used. Your support comes from your traits and active play, not on the gear you choose. In PvE, you shouldn’t need more than knights gear (if you’re unfamiliar with the content) to keep you alive while still putting out some damage. WvW on the other hand is completely open. You very well might want soldiers gear to survive longer (with vitality and toughness).

And I’ll throw this out there, but healing power is one of the least useful stats. It scales pretty terribly, and you would get more survivability for WvW from other stats like toughness and vitality.

It’s unfortunate, but that’s what happens when you let someone else play on your account. Lesson learned, hopefully.

It all depends what you want to do. That soldier gear will be good for WvW, so don’t throw it away. Try and save up some money and if you want to deal damage or join zerker groups and buy the berserker armor. Until then, you can do world events and join “play as you lilke” dungeon groups.

Just make sure not to spend the money you’re earning and buy the gear you want. You can also do CoF dungeon runs and use tokens to buy exotic berserker gear. Shouldn’t take you more than a week of doing AC 1/3 and CoF 1 once a day along with world events.

Make sure you buy level 80 gear though, it makes a difference. Weapons too. Use buy orders instead to get it at a lower price.

Exactly. This kind of trait works better with guardian virtues than it ever could on warriors burst skills. Burst skills are rarely useful so keeping the passive dmg is always best. Guard virtues are almost always useful and used, so having a dmg mod to make you really think about whether you need to cast the virtue or not is a nice addition imo.

Have you ever played warrior? Sure, greatsword burst is garbage but the rest are pretty kitten good. Hammer, longbow, mace, sword and axe are all useful. Especially with cleansing ire. You can cleanse up to 6 conditions every 8 seconds! Throw burst mastery in there and you’ve got yourself OP mechanics.

“I can’t count how many times I jumped into an outnumbered fight timing shield of wrath explosion with JI and then Leap of faith and seen 2-3 enemies instantly downed , and if not definitely scattering like ants with low hp and long burns on them.. Which of course then prompts GS 5/2.”

Not sure what level of skill those opponents have or how glassy they were but versus the people I play, that is impossible. xD

If you’re jumping into a group already engaged in a fight, Shield of Wrath can do some massive AOE damage timed well with Judge’s Intervention. Even in 1v1 it’s pretty obvious that it’s coming but still quite effective. I usually get 4-5k damage with it.

Here’s something like I use.

Completely focused on dps. Besides my burst combo, the sword AA does some serious sustained damage. Works great in team fights with the cleave and the survivability is decent considering how focused on dps I am. I’ve got a full condition cleanse with contemplation of purity that’s usually all I need in a 1v1 as the fight doesn’t last that long. I’ll use smite condition for damage more often and some fury, though it is handy to cleanse an imob on low CD.

My burst combo is: Shield of Wrath > Mighty Blow > Judge’s Intervention > Banish > Zealot’s Embrace > Flashing Blade > Smite Condition > Sword AA.

Combining Shield of Wrath with Mighty Blow on a Judge’s Intervention can do about 10k in damage. If you can pull off banish or zealot’s embrace it’s easy enough to AA them down with sword. With fury up the sword hits at 86% crit chance (51% base, 15% from Right Hand Strength and 20% from fury) and with the 30% damage multipliers and crit damage that’s a lot of damage.

Sigils and runes are generally left to preferences, but I really enjoy runes of the traveler. It really helps to stick to your target with sword AA. I also take berserker amulet for max dps. Anything less isn’t a dps guardian and more like a hybrid.

Scepter also works really well instead of hammer.

Chills and Sigils
Great that you traited for the hammer chill. I really want to make that work.
But you added 2 non-stacking sigils (energy and hydromancy). Unless ANet changed this, sigils of the same type don’t stack (including on-swap). I LOVE sigil of energy (use it in every other character) but here I was thinking to do:

Staff : Sigil of Hydromancy (on-swap) + Sigil of Blood (power!)

Hammer : Sigil of Ice (30% chance on hit – not crit – Chill 2 seconds, 10s CD) + Sigil of Chilling (20% chill duration to pump Hammer crit chill to 6-7s).

And then some of the runes that add 30% chill duration like Superior Rune of the Ice

Cheers

After the patch on swap sigils work together. Energy and hydromancy work well together.

Give rune of the traveler a shot, works wonders for me. I feel so dead in the water without them.

15% damage for a grandmaster is no where near OP. Don’t forget that you have to sacrifice other damage multipliers to get 6 in virtues and 6 for meditations. I think it’s pretty spot on, and it’s not a permanent bonus either. Reminds me of the burst damage trait for warriors.

This is high risk/reward. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQNAsdSlsApaodDxcI8DNR8gY9nWbqKw1/CmD-TpQaQA99HAlBAA

You drop 4 from virtues and lose a bit of condi removal, and you lose the 5s of vigor from 1 in honor. But, you gain 10% damage with sword, 15% crit with sword and 10% damage on conditions.

Burst combo is: Shield of Wrath > Mighty Blow > Judge’s Intervention > Banish > Zealot’s Embrace > Flashing Blade > Smite Condition > Sword AA.

Works pretty kitten well.

And before anyone gets into the point of denying this i suggest to look at the forums and realize the 80% of the posts is around this theme, its the root of the frustration of the 80% of the players, that do bother about the game to the point to look at least the official forums, and wish to see others opinion. So its not rambling chant.

This is so daft …

If you want to make up some fake wannabe statistics, at least try harder to keep them somehow realistic.

87% of all statistics are made up anyways.
