This is still really bugging me. I really liked how my character “felt”, and had grown accustom to the way it was for over a year. They look really weird now, and it does NOT suit light armor characters AT ALL. I literally don’t even want to play my human characters as much now because I just take notice of it immediately and can’t get past it.

They literally look like they’re running a sprinting marathon in a dress and boots, it’s just plain awkward. Change it back pleeeeeease

My next contribution is a piece of concept art I found floating around the internet a few days ago and I liked most of the design. Another light armor set (can you tell my main is currently a mesmer lol)

Someone said it may be from a game called Magna Carta. Whatever the case, I think it would be neat to have something similar, it’s stylish and fits the setting of GW2. She’s not naked, but it’s still really feminine and fantasy-like and could honestly work for medium armor, too.

I know this is incredibly radical, but please bear with me. What if they made… more non-tench coats for medium armor classes?

((Please pardon my sarcasm. But really: I’m a girly girl, I’d like some more girly-girl choices. Excluding unboob and S&M get-ups.))

I know what you mean lol. I really love corsets & skirts, don’t necessarily have to be naked to be sexy etc. But there are indeed an over-abundance of coats.

You’re gonna have to convince them to rehire whomever they had create the armor for all of GW1.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Assassin_armor

That would mostly be Kristen Perry, she still works for ArenaNet on GW2.

They had another guy by the name of Hyojin Ahn who departed from ArenaNet upon the launch of GW2. he appears to be responsible for our T3 cultural armor designs as well as the Orr temple light armor, etc.

I’m creating this thread here for now, because the most people will see it and I want to include as many people as possible in the discussion. The purpose of this thread is to share ideas using art (concept or otherwise), or other pictures to share what you want with the community, and ArenaNet developers alike so that they may potentially draw inspiration from our ideas & also get a good sense of where their player-base stands on the types of looks we want for our characters.

PLEASE keep the discussion civil, and open minded as many of us are bound to have different tastes and opinions so please be respectful

Everyone is welcome to join in the discussion, you do not have to post art if you don’t want to, but please do be constructive and descriptive.

We cannot expect everyone to be a deeply talented concept artist who wants to openly share their own works in our conversation so please don’t be shocked and bewildered when we post art and designs from other games & forms of media as a source of inspiration. I think it goes without saying that you are more than welcome to share your own pieces with the community as well if you wish to.

My first contribution is an idea for a mesmer-friendly set using concept art from AION’s bard class.

Yep, this is pretty much an outrage. I would of never expected this garbage from ArenaNet, and that’s me giving a fair assessment of the laziness & cheapness of these armor skins.

I hope nobody buys them. ArenaNet doesn’t deserve our money for that.

Many of us have put in the time and work to afford T3 cultural armor sets. Now they’ve cheapened it. I mean, you really couldn’t be bothered to just design new & unique armor sets as you have been doing? Really? Seriously, don’t bother putting new armor skins on the shop if THIS is what you’re going to do.

While ya’ll are at it, let me x-mute my T3 norn cultural off my ranger and onto my human thief, since you severely kitten the ranger since I got it.

I want an ArenaNet comment on this situation. There are A LOT of angry people rampaging about the game over this. Do those of us who spent 120g for cultural’s get refunds? Probably not, but they had promised that they would never do this, in fact I’m sure if we spend enough time we can find the posts where developers have stated that cultural armor and how it’s acquired would remain the way it always had been. Now, I know you could say this isn’t the cultural armor, and it’s different because you added ugly particles to it. Either way, same armor model. Couldn’t bother to actually design unique and new armor skins to compliment whatever you were trying to do here?

Please, don’t bother re-skinning old armor sets and selling them to us in the gem shop. Now that you’ve done it to 1 of the culturals, I guess you’ve got to spend the next 3 or 4 updates doing it to the rest of them to make it “fair”, instead of giving us new & original sets we would actually be happy to buy.

And while we’re at it, let me at least xmute my norn cultural t3 off my ranger and onto my human thief so I won’t have wasted 100g on a class that became kitten and don’t have to buy it with real money in the future on the gem shop. an ugly version with fire on it for that matter.

I was so surprised by the laziness that I didn’t even realize the light is t3 cultural. Wtf? If you were going to do that then why didn’t you do it for the other T3’s? Not that I think T3 should be attained in the shop in any way shape or form, but still. This is disappointing me.

I would rather they never, ever try to sell me armor skins I can get in the game, for real money. Like, ever again. I’m a huge supporter of new armor skins in the gem shop, always have been…But I want to see new skins, not the same ones I can get in the game with ugly effects added to them. If you’re going to design armor with effects added to them and sell them to us then fine, but make the skins unique and original to go along with the effects.

This is lazy tbqh.

what if the emperor isnt evil and has just lost all his power to the real evil ppl – the ministry of purity, just because usoku is evil doesnt mean the current emperor is

This is very true.
Zhaitan and the DSD have prevented more recent contact to Cantha, so it’s entirely possible that their attitudes have changed.
Then again the current emperor is a very recent descendant of Usoku and so it’s likely they would have been raised with the same ideals. It will be interesting to see where they decide to go with the storyline.

Often times a child does not agree with the methods of the parent, this is something that pretty much turns out to be the case every generation to some varying degree, who’s to say by now the descendant on the throne isn’t actively working to re-establish connection to the rest of the world? Maybe for the first time in known history Cantha has an Empress, and maybe she’s not straight out of her mind like her predecessors have been. Maybe she’s not even descended from Usoku at all and after the Dragon calamity, the line of Usoku was wiped out and replaced with the closest family to the throne all those years ago. I would find this to be a compelling situation in itself.

The possibility is also there that there is nobody on the throne, and that would be part of the 1st living story there, to find who is best fit to assume the throne. Or simply, the monarchy does not exist anymore due to all the crazy that has come from it in the last 200-300 years.

The possibilities are endless, and while I do hope Cantha reserves a lot of it’s structure and thus keeps a lot of it’s cultural & imperial feel, I’m excited to see what they come up with should they actually add it.

Why has female running been changed?

One-handed weapons are clipping through forearms by just standing still. By the way, I like the new animation.

I prefer the old animation, especially with respect to the other issues it seems to have caused.

What is missing is understanding what was wrong with (aside from anecdotal evidence) it that they felt the need to assign money, a modeler (modelers?) and time to changing it, causing other graphics issues in the process? Was there performance issues? Is it the cause of the lag some people experience in big events? Was it impacting the economy somehow?

I would think in the spirit of collaboration, they would have a forum somewhere indicating possible changes, why they are thinking of making them (the why, always missing is the why with them), and give us a chance to weigh in. If I end up being in a 10% losing bracket, I would concede, and take my money elsewhere.

Which, I guess is on me. I should have been more wary about spending $20 on two armor skin packs to outfit a new character I created, supporting the company’s efforts to provide more skins through the gem store, knowing that at any moment, they would make a drastic change to how a character model that was wearing that clothing looked when wearing it.

I don’t know, it makes me sad. I don’t enjoy spending time in the world with my characters at all, they feel broken and look odd to me. Hopefully my $20 goes to something useful, I guess.

I don’t know, I like being tomboyish. I’m tired of the girly animation like female norns, no offense.

You might like being tomboyish, but what about everyone else? I certainly didn’t make my character with the intent on her running like a man. I get what you’re saying, but the bottom line is that most people made their characters over a year ago, and like the way they felt, preferences on being feminine or a tomboy aside. It’s a shame that we cannot toggle different running styles, but honestly my female human mesmer looks ridiculous in her mesmer dress & running like this and I’m willing to bet a majority of people made female humans because they liked the feminine-ness of them compared to the other races which are overwhelmingly “tomboyish” already.

So with all of this in mind it would be cool to carry on discussing around this area in much the same form as Nike has. Specifically brainstorming on top of the foundation of known systems and functionality. I do also want to point out that someone mentioned (sorry i forget who) the ability to potentially build forts etc and then gain new events, goals and rewards from them by protecting and nurturing your land. Wouldn’t that be awesome!?

Chris

This. Would. Be. Amazing. This was something I was just thinking about while out in Kessex and Queensdale. We spend all of this time fighting centaurs, playing back and forth with specific spots, it’s very drawn out and boring at this point. I feel like the world has changed very little on my 5th character. I love fighting for, and effectively eradicating the Centaur or Bandits from a specific spot…But only so many times. If we could as you say, nurture the land by building up the fortresses & settlements and see a real substantial growth take place then it would feel very worth spending a lot more time out there tackling the conflict head on.

In Ascalon, and outside in the Fields of Ruin…We see humans finally expanding back out into these regions with tiny settlements, Seraph with small fortifications….A year and some later they haven’t changed and this is prime real estate for expansion, growth and development. That’s what a living world is, and if you/we could do this then I could not honestly think of any game presently, or even in the near future that will likely touch this level of innovation.

South Sun, we left the settlers there at the mercy of the Karka Queen and her minions when we saw the fireworks of Dragon Bash go off and haven’t really spent much time there since. What ever happened to them? I would love to go back there and help them build up the Isles & make real, genuine settlements there. Even if specific parts can be built up extensively and then decay over time without upkeep, or eventually get destroyed without the proper defenses in a major event that could take place after X amount of time (I would make it a long term timer, not short term because who likes seeing all their hard work demolished in a day or two?)

I know this is all extremely broad and probably unrealistic, but one can hope. Tyria is a very deep and complex world, and even if we could get some of this type of content then the game would be much better off for it.

The Ascalonian ghosts were meant to symbolize the GW1 playerbase and gameplay. It’s ANet’s way of “putting them out to pasture.”

Not necessarily the case. They have said time and time again they’re working on many projects both broadening the current game world, changing it in already existing “vanilla” regions as well as pushing out to other places. They will be doing things that bring people back to, and rotating between new, and old regions. Ascalon is a perfect opportunity for this. Look at the continued expansion of humanity out into the formerly Ascalonian regions with new settlements & fortresses being built with the help of the Charr a la the treaty. The Charr have little use for the region on their own, the humans have need for expansion as more and more humans gravitate into Kryta, overcrowding it. There’s a lot of potential story and content to be developed and played over the years in this region. I don’t foresee Ascalon being a human-only region anymore but probably more of a jointly built up and governed place between Humans & Charr.

I’d like it to be a direct continuation of both GW1 & GW2 in story/setting…More sandbox/sandpark style gameplay, though. No more RNG garbage, no more ascended headaches….And of course, being able to tie our characters across the games together as ancestors/descendants for the story.

An engaging storyline with actual decisions to make that impact the world around the player (even if they utilize an advanced form of phasing)

I have to agree Hyperion, I’m getting a little bored of this living story thing because it never seems to ramp up into any big epic conclusion or open up the world much at all. It’s achievement farming which is fun for a couple of days, and then nothing really new after. Nothing that lasts, the only time that happened was when we got the new Isles which we’ve abandoned twice leaving settlers there with an incomplete settlement as they get relentlessly slaughtered by karka over and over again. And then the other time was the Captain’s council election, and we’ve yet to see an appearance from Kiel or really anyone from that series of updates all this time later.

Ultimately, we’re just flippantly skipping around all over the place instead of any truly cohesive plot. We see tiny connections here and there to sew them together, but nothing overly concrete. It’s definitely time for them to examine larger, meatier, and more significant updates. Where are all these updates they’ve mentioned several times over the past year? The ones that have been in development but are a secret that can’t be revealed yet? We can’t get any information at all? I want to go back to the iconic places from GW1. That’s Cantha, and Elona. I want to see the Isles of Janthir, I want to find out what happened to the White Mantle, I want to see really significant plots play out instead of fleeting moments that get jumbled in together with the other fleeting moments we’re experiencing.

There really is just not enough tying the two games together. They share the same world, some of the same cities, some of the same bloodlines/dynasty’s (IE: The Queen) etc but there’s little else making it a true sequel. It’s only been 250 years, not 2,500 and honestly you would think it were the latter at this rate.

The Prince outfit would make a great armor skin. The Executioner could, I guess if you’re into that look. It’s pretty depressing, because they’re really really epic looking and you can’t even wear them in combat. I hate this whole town-clothes thing, and there are many people who feel the same way. If they dedicated all of the team that designs the armor/art for this game to new skins, they would have lot’s of new skins regularly in the gem shop and outside of it. I would pay for the Prince armor as an armor skin. But I don’t feel like buying any of it if I’m really only going to wear it once a year for 10 minutes.

I am guessing Anet has been hiding the fact that they will be opening the gates to Cantha on April 28, 2014.
We have all been told it wont be but lets be honest, we all know its coming just 6 months to wait now =)

GW2 is famouse about the failed high expectations. You should just forget Cantha and be happy if they bring it some years later.

Um, what? This doesn’t really add anything constructive to the discussion on Cantha in GW2, it just adds unnecessary negativity. GW2 is not famous for failed expectations outside of the frustration with Ascended items when compared to the original “vision” of the game. But that’s another topic altogether. Several developers have stated their desire, and plans for Cantha content in the future, and that was months ago. We just have to wait and see how they go about doing it. It’s getting to be about time that they start to open new regions in the game, as it’s reached it’s 1st year post-launch.

I would fight for Ascalon, although at this point I don’t think either race would find it worthwhile to do so. But the fact of the matter is, humans are in desperate need to expand again, the Charr are not and the war on Ascalon was a matter of principal than a matter of necessity all those years ago. I think the only people we’d be fighting would be whatever is keeping it infested with ghosts, there’s no reason why the Charr & humans can’t both equally claim it and rebuild it together. In fact, i think that would be epic to take part in.

I just want ascended armor to be attainable outside of crafting, I think the crafting thing is a lazy design approach. I would rather do actual entertaining content and attain ascended gear than sit at a crafting station, and spend weeks upon weeks getting materials for a piece…Too boring and grindy. Bring back the old philosophy that made this game popular initially, because this approach is the polar opposite of what this game was promised to be, and originally was.

I primarily WvW, and do the living world dungeons or stories. I know that a massive portion of the games populous is basically the same way at this point, so it really only makes sense that they would be made attainable through these methods in addition to the dead-end crafting method.

Will Ascended items become unbound?

in Crafting

Posted by: Shanna.4762

Shanna.4762

I do not want to craft for items, I absolutely hate crafting with a passion. I enjoy many other aspects of MMO’s but crafting has never and probably will never be one of them. Crafting to me is like watching paint dry, it’s painfully, agonizingly boring. With the introduction of ascended items that are account bound, I am being forced to do something I would probably rather stab myself in the face than do for any extended period of time, or become increasingly more obsolete and unable to compete with the already 10% total damage increase from ascended weapons alone. It’s quickly turning this game into a hugely gated, irritating, tedious process that’s very quickly pushing me out, and many others too. If ascended items are not trade-able, or purchasable by any other means than crafting with the introduction of ascended armor, than I am absolutely saying goodbye to this game once and for all and will not look back with other games such as ESO, and WS coming out next year.

I’m definitely on board with people wanting to see the forest de-petrified, and the jade sea melted would be pretty neat as well although I’m curious what they would be doing to bring us to the Jade Sea at that point. I think it’s vital that Cantha keeps it’s oriental culture both visually and structurally. Whether or not they’ve advanced or not makes little difference to me. I just wanna go back and I want to go back to the places I loved from GW1 and for at least a chunk of Cantha to be unchanged.

in Clockwork Chaos

lol, even if she dies it is still boring story. She is not a major character at all, I saw her twice in human story??

She is a major character in the entire timeline & story though. But she’s the Queen, and thus holed up in the Royal Palace being that. If she died, I dont think you understand how significant that would be. She’s responsible for a vast majority of why humanity on this side of Tyria isn’t borderline extinct, a big portion of why the Orders responded during the personal story (Whispers in particular seem to have a very strong sense of loyalty to her), she’s responsible for the Charr treaty, which is allowing humans to venture out into what was formerly Ascalon for the first time since the searing and establish settlements, and Charr to venture into Kryta and other human regions to work together. Really when you look at the big picture she appears to be one of the most significant people in the overall game world & lore right now.

Also, her role in the game just got bumped up a few notches by having two updates and living stories centered around her. I hope we see a lot more of her in the future, especially in Act 2 of the personal story whenever that comes out.
