This is quite common. Comparing maps is grueling as I’ve done it before to finish explorer achievements lol, but I’m at the same count for Shiverpeaks…It’s got to be things that are very hard to see. Look for areas on your map that are “water colored or smudgy looking” still.

They’ve said a few times that the world over all will change, certain zones may get destroyed, or altered via building, major events, etc. New zones will of course be coming, and also new events probably across the board for all of the above.

I don’t know about world bosses, I’m assuming probably at some point.

Old zones will also be part of what gets altered over time when they get to it in the living story though. I think it was the EUROgamer interview a few weeks ago where they (ArenaNet) talked a little bit about this stuff, but they have talked about it several times in the past. Orr is one example, it’s already undergone a moderate adjustment…But it’s supposedly due for a revamp, and now that certain events have come to pass in the story timeline we can only guess how it may change : )

They’re also working on re-vamping old dungeons. I’m too lazy to find and quote all of Colin’s responses to questions such as these, they’re all over the forums though. <3

Home Instance Question

I definitely want housing, I don’t know if I want it in my home instance though. I guess it would make sense to put them in there, but I dunno. I kind of would like a more robust system and one that’s more out in the open somehow, maybe Wildstar-like ….:)

The home instance has been under-utilized, though…Not enough changes seem to occur over all…I think this was partially due to deadlines and time constraints, though. Sort of like how human characters were supposed to be able to choose their cultural origin and have parts of their story reflect that more extensively. That’s on top of the social class part.

Yep, I hope she still works on new armor sets for GW2. I really want the (original) outfit Countess Anise uses, also in the Mesmer preview video from pre-launch. Countess Anise’s version is nice, but the original is much prettier…I want that for my mesmer like yesterday and since it was in the mesmer video, I was sort of expecting it was an option. silly me.

Too Much Temporary Content Can Only Harm GW2

Shanna.4762

I wish people would give ArenaNet the chance to actually show us what they’re doing for this type of content. It’s obviously gonna be very big, they’ve kept millions of players happy with the temporary and permanent-lite content in the interim while improving the very core features, etc. Colin has said the living story teams are just a part of their whole development team about what seems like 900 times, and a big chunk of them are working on permanent content. Imagine what that will be like when it’s ready, considering it’s been in development for a very long time. I have a feeling this allows them to deliver content now, and have a very strong stream of permanent content without huge gaps between releases in the future.

I’m getting tired of these threads popping up, there’s only about a million of them at this point. Find one that exists and keep it running, like I and many others have with the Cantha thread in my signature.

We’ve already talked about Said’s theories on “Orientalism”. We do not really need to go back to that in my opinion. They are theories, and this is a game that is being sold to a very vast demographic of players from ALL walks of life and that includes Asian’s of all kinds.

I play with many Asian players, and they’re highly diverse as to their heritage & cultures that all get along quite nicely, and then of course Asian players from the UK & Australia and the USA, etc. Almost every one of them that I talk to has brought up, or joined in on discussions on Cantha in and out of game, some of which have posted here on this thread. Cantha is not Asia, Cantha is a mythological/fantasy region & nation based off a very broad spectrum of diverse Asian cultures and they understand that, and have never even once brought anything up about that being an issue. I very highly doubt that in any meeting ArenaNet has had with NCsoft, that they brought up Said’s theories on Orientalism followed by slamming the book on the round table and saying “NO, CULTURAL INSENSITIVITY!”. It sounds as though it was an issue with the mixing of Asian architecture’s from different regions COUPLED WITH being in a district of a Western themed city that that literally towered over the Canthan District, which is something that politically, may be deemed offensive and could have been hard to pass censors in China at one point. Now, we will probably never know the exact truth on this matter, we can only gather from what we have been told by Josh Foreman and any other developers who have commented on the issue.

Many developers at ArenaNet seem very keen on bringing Cantha back with GW2. It’s been years and years since that discussion originally took place. It’s important to note that NCsoft had slated Blade & Soul to launch in NA/EU roughly around the same time frame as GW2. B&S is a game that is EXTREMELY entrenched in Oriental mythologies and basis, and NCsoft may have been worried about direct competition between the two games if GW2 carried heavy oriental influences too early on, as well. Since then, B&S launched and struggled in S. Korea, and has been pushed back here til next year at the very earliest (this was confirmed by NCsoft themselves) and because of the gap between releases the two do not really face the competition they would have otherwise had.

So there’s that. I still see no reason, in fact I see even less reasons for Cantha to be excluded from this game and I stand by my earlier statement that the only thing that would be culturally insensitive with this, is if they did indeed leave Cantha out of the game, thus giving their Asian players the short end of the stick for no real good reason what-so-ever.

Uh…LOL

Well, I guess I would want them to be independent of NCsoft first…

1) The rest would go to funding more permanent content development such as new dungeons, and new types of content on top of the living story thing.

2) More sandbox content, I would like to be able to build a house, and for trade skills to be a fun part of game play as well as for it to mean something more than it currently does.

3) A Cantha expansion – This would be a must

4) Further optimizations to the engine & client are always welcome as I know there’s people who struggle with this somewhat.

5) Hiring someone who knows how to make really stylish armor & gear for both genders, as well as imposing gear. Not that I don’t think the people that are already there can’t do it, but we’ve yet to see the armor live up to a lot of the concept art. It’s either too bulky, or too masculine (for girls), etc. This should not be rocket science but it seems like it is sometimes.

6) Many new hairstyle and face options for all races. Improved hair physics

Honestly, alot of it has to due with your dye scheme. You have to play with it a little bit otherwise yeah, when you preview them they look horrible. They all are quite nice, though. They could do better but it’s only 800 gems for 1, and if we want them to release more armor skins they need to do well as I think that’s why it’s taken so long for them to do new ones since launch.

I agree, I would like to see upgraded versions of the best GW1 skins in the gem shop, there’s no reason why they couldn’t make some extremely beautiful sets for the gem shop and thus make armor skins a very, very big selling point. But we may never see anything like that if these don’t sell well.

Idea: maybe they could put it up for a community vote, between two or 3 different concepts that we would like to see in the gem shop

If you people are wondering why NCSoft destroyed our beloved Canthan district and did not display any of our continent, it’s because of Blizzard. When Guild Wars 2 was going to be released, Mists of Pandaria was released with an Asian style. The Devs did not want to look like they were copying Blizzard, so they got rid of Canthan District.
We most likely will never see Cantha again.

That has nothing to do with it, at all. The reasons for this were explained by Josh Foreman many pages back. There’s decent chance we’ll see the district rebuilt through a living story, or something. But NCsoft was rumored to have been concerned about too many asian themes being used in GW2’s launch, as they had anticipated Blade & Soul would be launching in the U.S. relatively closely after GW2. That hasn’t, and won’t be happening as that game is a good year – year and a half away from our market still according to NCsoft, and so I think that concern is gone and ArenaNet can do what they want.

They need to make money, armor skins make money, people want to buy armor skins and they also don’t like having to wait a week or two to have a full set for the look due to having to farm dungeons all the time.

Portugal, Spain, maybe southern France, Italy… Greece too maybe.

When I listed Austria I wasn’t talking about the aesthetic of the people, but the architectural inspirations of some of the buildings you see in Divinity’s Reach, particularly some of the interiors. I was grouping it in with the rest, though. But yeah.

Hum…I don’t get it, they’re allied with Inquest and there’s Norns and Charrs among the crew…knowing that Cantha does not exactly see other species in a good light right now, I wonder what make you think they’re canthan. Of canthan origin maybe, logical for Pirates from the unending ocean, but actual Canthans?

Canthan’s as a whole have never been Xenophobic or racist against other species as they’ve co-existed with other species for centuries upon centuries. It was the last known Emperor like 200+ years ago who became Xenophobic eventually and forced the issue. We do not know what’s happened since then, and for all we know when that Emperor went, so did the Xenophobia and that would be a most likely situation, as he would of only ruled 1 generation, if that.

As for the Sky Pirates being Canthan’s…In one way it would make sense. The ocean between Cantha & the northern part of Tyria where we are would be very dangerous, even after Zhaitan’s death as it’s recent and would take time for that mess to die down completely. So they would probably travel by air to reach where we are right now, if they wanted or needed to.

On the other hand, they don’t look particularly Canthan aside from the names we’ve seen, and of course Marjory although she’s from Divinity’s Reach as far as I know and thus probably only of Canthan heritage like a big chunk of DR, but not from the mainland which would explain why her name is Marjory.

It’s possible that this is more of a prelude to Cantha, or at least a Canthan element being brought into the game over all, rather than being a full on Canthan related situation. I have a feeling that when we do see Cantha, it will be a long time from now. I hope I’m wrong, but at the same time a Canthan presence would be very welcome in the interrum.

More armor skins in the gem shop – This could be thematic, based off the current update or “era”, or updating GW1 skins into this games setting (Cantha ones would be welcome)

More armor skins from new dungeons

New hairstyles for all races, new faces, more asian/oriental hairstyles & faces, a lot more Sylvari customization options such as hair and face options

More Sylvari armor skins – this needs to happen, as most of the current ones are really bulky and hideous.

More GW1 tie-in’s to this game both in-game & gem store items

An additional character menu or system where we can select our characters heritage, for races that have different cultures such as humans, I want to make my Canthan & Elonian descended characters literally flagged as such – idc if this is from the gem shop or not but I know a lot of people have talked about wanting this for a long time.

Different movement or sheathed weapon & animation options – Minor, but it would be cool if dual blade options could be sheathed in an X on your back, rather than on your sides as that looks really dumb a lot of the time.

New Emotes – there’s not enough.

Player Housing – you could sell novelty furnishings etc in the gem shop, or specialty houses if you ever add player housing…Which would be awesome.

Ascalonian Reclamation

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shanna.4762

Shanna.4762

Well, nobody is safe in Ascalon. It’s full of ghosts and a bunch of rubble. But I agree, if the day came where it was reclaimed…I don’t think there would be a Monarch unless it was Jennah, simply because she made the treaty happen and she is the figurehead & leader for most of known humanity right now. Many descendants of the Ascalonians are returning there and starting up settlements, which would be the only reason that there would be a Monarch in Ascalon once it was reclaimed, if there was ever going to be one. It wouldn’t make all that much sense to confuse the situation with two human Monarch’s running around after the one has already put so much work into the whole thing and is already the one that most people are looking to and loyal to.

That being said, I really think a reclaimed Ascalon would ultimately be for all the races and therefor it’s leadership would be governed by a council of the races leaders, or their viceroys/representatives. Or it could be left to be it’s own entity as a City State…

Ascalonian Reclamation

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shanna.4762

Shanna.4762

I think eventually we may get there, why not? I think it would be an epic living story to reclaim Ascalon & rebuild it for all races….There are some settlements out there that humans have begun to build now that there’s a treaty, and Charr who are helping them so I don’t see a reason why not…And if there is a new Monarch of Ascalon, it will probably default to Jennah as she’s the Queen of pretty much all humanity right now since we have absolutely no idea what’s going on in Cantha or Elona, and she’s the one who got this treaty to happen in the first place. But I don’t see the traditional Monarchy taking hold in a reclaimed Ascalon autocratically. Maybe leaders of all the races would have a council, or round table of sorts where each of them is equal to the other. Even if Queen Jennah is on the Ascalonian throne so to speak, ceremonially – for Ascalonians, and as the “middle-man” since she did get the treaty to happen after all.

Ultimately, it seems that Ascalon means more to humans than it does to the Charr…It was a matter of principal for the Charr from the way I see it, more than a matter of necessity or rightful ownership, or even actually wanting it.

I would be much happier if the helmets didn’t cause bald head syndrome like every single helmet in the game.

New Armor Sets

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shanna.4762

Shanna.4762

This will come from the very depth of my heart and I will be honest about this: – Fire the entire team who are responsible for appearance (armors & outfits).

The design team who are responsible for armors designs have done a horrific job on producing prestige wears. People have complained for very long about the lack of prestige gear for combat. I sound harsh but this is the truth. There are a few SET PIECES of gear that are the exception but that is all. Anets design team need new and fresh designs from other people than people responsible for the current in game armors. I mean that. I feel I have no prestige at all. Everybody looks the same. Even the new armor coming the 25th looks horrible. I want awesome armors. Armors that shine or glow in the dark. I want neon dyes. YES! And I want my gear to thrill and excite others to get the exact same appearance as me. Not run around in my horrible outfit for combat.

To sum this up:

1) New armor design team. Preferable a Korean or just plain Asian team. They know their stuff!

2) Produce more armor designs. ALOT! I know it is time consuming modeling them to suit every race but you are known for creating a breathtaking world and throw out new content for it every month so this should not be a problem.

3) New armor design team.

I don’t think that’s necessary. Look at the concept art for the gear in this game, most of which we don’t have. They know to design amazing sets, and in a few cases they already have. I do agree, and so do many people that they need to really put more effort into new armor sets/skins going forward, 10 months post-launch and they haven’t even added a new set to the gem shop.

Look at GW1 armor sets, though. Many of those sets, in particular the Canthan/Factions sets were incredible for their time. But the aesthetic of Guild Wars has never really been about neon, glowing, and laser light shows out of our shoulder pads (although that would be entertaining for a little bit). It’s always been more about elaborate, and ornate design and this is something that they haven’t done a great job at so far except for as you said, a few sets. Firing the team isn’t the answer, though as I think they’re fully capable of bringing us amazing sets that suit the setting we’re in. Remember that this game takes place at the beginning of an industrial era. We’re moving from the old world into the new one. The steam punk theme is perfect if it is done really well and I personally feel like this is a good start. They may not be the greatest sets as we can tell from a couple pictures, but we have yet to customize them with our own dyes and such and this does not mean they are the only ones coming in the near future.

If you feel that Lady Kasmeer’s armor is skimpy, then I think you are a bit too conservative to be able to enjoy a fantasy game like this LOL. She’s covered up pretty good, but the armor is very form fitting. There’s a huge difference between scantily clad, and form fitting. We do not have enough of the former, and honestly I actually think we do not have enough of the latter, either. Of all the linked images, they reuse the same base models several times, this does not count as variety by any means whatsoever and honestly a few of those gettups are hideously arranged so it’s a really bad series of examples.

I’ve never in my entire time playing games complained of female-friendly armor, or scantily clad armor and most people I have seen that do tend to be much older individuals who can’t seem to accept that the demographic of these games when it comes to aesthetics are almost always going to be geared towards a younger more liberal crowed.. Many games lack a wide abundance of appealing sets for females & female characters on both fronts. Many of the armor sets are clunky, coat-ish, plain, hideous, or all of the above on female characters, especially when you get into medium & heavy armor sets. In my opinion, realism and the expectation of realistic equipment in a video game is extremely boring and the fact that it’s such a passionate thing for some people sort of depresses me. This is not real life, therefor I do not and should not expect it to resemble that. Otherwise there would not be magic, dragons, teleportation, or 90% of the combat animations that are placed in this or any other game.

Also, Guild Wars is famous for very stylish armor sets. Not boring & bland ones.

And to whoever linked that reddit post, that’s all fine and well, but until it’s confirmed by a dev tag on forums or on the GW2 official site, take whatever you see in-game with a grain of salt.

These little teases with jade weapons, Canthan NPCs, Pirates, etc. are really either very misleading, a ploy to give us our “Canthan Fix” or may actually be leading up to something.

I don’t think they would tease us to give us our Canthan fix, without making it abundantly clear that it’s all directly and completely Canthan, we don’t know for sure if it has anything to do with Cantha or if there just happens to be two Canthan characters involved. So I do not believe that’s what they’re doing. While Cantha itself may be a very long ways off (for all we know, anyway) they can still involve Canthan’s in the game, ongoing story, and world and develop content that brings the culture as it is today into the whole scheme of things.

I’m conflicted on the what the new characters mean, and I’m skeptical about Margory having anything to do with Cantha because of her name, even though she definitely looks Canthan. Mai on the other hand makes me think it totally is Canthan due to her name, but then she looks nothing like one….I don’t understand that face choice if she is in fact Canthan.

Marjory is really beautiful.

Haha just thought i’d see what people were saying about her!! I had to print screen her too. She’s stunning. Honestly wish they would release faces like that. The amount of work that’s gone into Guildwars2. We need more faces and hair!!

ppppplllllzzzzzz….

I know that won’t happen, since she’s now a primary character and they all seem to have unique faces? But I want it so bad for my thief…lol…

[Spoilers] Is Mai Trin...

Marjory is gorgeous, Kasmeer is too…But Marjory definitely has the best female face in the game by a loooooooooong shot. WTB, although I know that won’t happen.
