I would love this, actually. Largos are a very intriguing and mysterious race. I would not be surprised if they were actually what became of the Orrian people after it sank, due to the Vizier’s magic?
Why do we think it’s Lions Arch??
Asura do not need bikinis, thank you very much.
Nobody’s asking for that, just feminine versions of the gear. O_o
Disappointed. More, and more with each coming update as they give us less, and less actual content and more, and more continuous farming.
The royal pass again because logging and/or zoning into Lions Arch and only Lions Arch nowadays is atrociously long anymore.
Trivia
Asura in Buddhism is the name of the lowest ranks of the deities or demigods of the K?madh?tu
That’s straight from the official wiki. So I guess that.
Since Asuran genders are pretty much identical physically, why would there be different outfits for females? That wouldnt be very effective.
This isn’t true. Voice and ear structure differentiate them at a base level, and obviously their faces are a pretty sure indication. They also (according to the wiki) function similarly to humans in terms of what’s going on with reproduction, etc. Their society just happens to not put an overbearing emphasis on male to female differences in position or equality. They’re highly evolved, and so they are assumed to be beyond putting stereotypical gender roles on each other too strongly. You do however see many married couples through out the game, and they do appear to carry their relationships quite similarly to the humans as well. It’s mostly the society thing as to their reasoning behind the lack of gender defining outfits, but I do agree I would like to see more feminine options for female Asura rather than just the male version. I’m not saying “skimpy”, as I hope to avoid that altogether LOL…But yeah, feminine would be nice.
The Norn are believed to have descended and evolved from the Kodan. There are different theories, but the most commonly accepted one in the lore is that they’re an offshoot of Kodan who eventually separated from the rest of them, going to a different part of the northern regions and evolved into what they are today, resembling humans. This is for whatever the reason is why they can shape shift, though.
There have been conflicting backgrounds on them by developers in the past, and in both games. In GW1 there’s a character who was the offspring of Norn & human, but then a dev came on here a long time ago and said they can’t reproduce and then somewhere another said perhaps it would be possible. Whatever the case, they’re not “just tall humans”.
They emit more body heat than other races do, especially in motion. So this is why a lot of their clothing/attire is rather skimpy/lacking complete and total coverage. The more physically active they get, the more heat they emit and this is why they prefer the cold regions. It’s not nearly as cold to them up where they live as it is to the other races.
Omg I actually love this idea lol
No I think they would of just found a way to connect to that instead, or they would of just connected it to something outside of the fractal.
Glad to see this is still going very strong, and that the demand is as high as ever for Cantha to return. I’ve been feeling sort of depressed lately with the game because we’ve not really seen the world open up much since the lost islands were found, and even then we’ve just sort of left it there and aren’t seeing it grow or change much. So at this point I’m hungry for just about ANY new region to open in GW2, and of course Cantha is still at the top of my list. I’m glad to see Angel McCoy said something about it, hopefully devs continue to join in the discussion.
I found this earlier today, it sums up how I feel.

This armor.
Maybe if we post this enough, we’ll get it!
Apparently I’m not allowed to say that I find the game boring right now, even in topics that are asking for the communities feelings and opinions on the game lol. Like, I can’t put it any “nicer” then that. I feel like it’s really gotten boring so I’m just going to say it again. As much as I hate to say it at this point I’m not really enjoying these “lite” updates we’re getting as they don’t really ever seem to add anything substantial to the game that entertains me for more than a day at most which is also quite frustrating.
I like her as a character, I’m bored though and tired the constant catastrophe’s that always lead back to her but never truly get resolved in the end, because we’re gonna wake up next week to yet another episode of Scarlet hating the world. There comes a point where the lack of a resolution becomes exhausting and boring for people. I don’t mind her being the main antagonist in the game as I think she’s fantastic. But surely we can find other types of content rather than catastrophe after catastrophe.
Also, how much crap must the humans have to go through in this game? Everyones always trying to invade and destroy our space, kill our Queen, or any other number of annoyances. At this rate, humans wont exist anymore in GW3. Let’s switch it up.
Sociopolitical Diversification: Player housing, Guild Halls, and Faction Alliances leading to new game play opportunities, rewards and content.
Hero Recognition: Unique Skins, Titles, Rewards, followers and NPC reactions/opportunities based on the players individual feats in the world of Tyria regardless of how he/she chooses to play the game.
These two are extremely important to me, because they give the player a much more rounded sense of accomplishment in the game world over all, rather than in one or two specific areas limited to gear and itemization.
Currently, I really feel too little connection between my character and the game-world. I don’t feel like either the game world itself, or the live community of players in the game have absolutely any idea of each other’s accomplishments or impacts and are therefor not even thinking much about it. In the end, we’re just sitting around bored after we do our typical activities for the day.
Earlier on in the thread I talked about wanting “faction alliances” in a sense, because it could nicely bring you back to the core decisions you’re making with your characters and also introduce new decisions to make. I talked about the fact that when we created our characters, we made all these choices from the start but really only seemed to skim through them in the first 20 levels of the game. Everything after that is relatively the same as the next character, and we never really got to explore and learn anything about them outside of that, which then the story itself basically got hijacked by Traehearne and his wyld hunt to cleanse Orr etc, I could go on ranting about that particular situation but I won’t lol.
One of the examples I gave was, my first and main character in the game is a human mesmer, she’s a member of the aristocracy/nobility and joined the Vigil. Being able to do missions for “factions” joined could be very interesting, and even potentially converge at different points which could offer a more diverse experience while playing by making the decisions we’ve made since the start have more of an impact on our experiences. I’m a massive fan of story, lore, and also of political intrigue. So as a human noble, being a part of the Queen’s court would be a really exciting thing for me on my main, and being able to work up my rank within the nobility, thus granting titles and other prestigious rewards over time would be really fun. The same goes with my Order choice, where I could choose to specialize in a specific “area of expertise” within the faction (such as diplomacy, or battle). The possibilities there could be with other races and different options provided also seems more limitless and diverse as well.

I hope so, I’m getting extremely bored. I almost wish they would go back to a longer release cycle for updates so we could maybe get much bigger and substantial updates than we are getting. A lot of people I’ve been playing with on and off since launch are really starting to feel the monotony at this point.
-snip-
You don’t have to be royalty to be eligible for the crown in Ascalon. Adelbern himself was just a common war hero that the people elevated to king over Barradin. Apparently all you have to be is Ascalonian. And a descendant of Doric probably, which Wade is.
Isn’t Samuelsson a war hero?…
not a Fringe fan obviously…
No…although I did find out finally where I saw that face before. Let’s just say I was more than a little ashamed that I could remember the commercials for Dawson’s Creek.
Oh god…that Paula Cole song is now stuck in my head.
Help me…
Perhaps, but I am speaking more about Queen Jennah is more closely related to Kings/Queens of Ascalon past than Wade Samuelsson would be. Also, historically there have been similar systems that evolved (or maybe devolved depending on your personal point of view) into purely hereditary monarchies such as Sweden.
I do think it would be interesting to see either aspect of either a unified Kryta & human Ascalon under Queen Jennah, making it the first time in many centuries that the human Kingdoms were a unified “empire” if you will, or the ascension of Wade Samuelsson to the restored throne of Ascalon and a tight alliance between both independent Kingdoms. Either direction could make for really interesting story and timeline events to play through.
Just the way they’ve set it up thus far shows so many signs toward it being a reunified human empire under Queen Jennah, rather than the other option of separate and independent Kingdoms when you take into account what’s going on in the game (the merging/hybridizing & recruiting of the Queen’s military to the Ebonhawke military in that region) and an extremely tiny role that Wade Samuelsson plays in the story overall…Along with the Wiki page update of the Queen being named regent of Ascalon per the treaty. Maybe we’ll have to choose one direction, or the other similarly to the Captains Council thing, or maybe it will just happen and be out of our control altogether. Either way, I want to see a reclaimed & resettled Ascalon…I don’t particularly care which direction it goes in after that but “Wade Samuelsson” is a terrible name for a King…..King Wade of Ascalon…LOL..
The original Sylvari weren’t really very popular from the sounds of it in earlier stages of development. I guess they seemed boring at the time. I love my Sylvari characters but I do think it’s important to remember that there’s likely other mother trees in other regions of the game, so perhaps we will see the “original” design make a return in the future? I know I would still like to have that option, anyway.
Tsar Nicholas II was not a popular monarch at all, whatsoever. He was honestly quite terrible at the job, even self admittedly. A lot of his best decisions came at the behest or advice of other members of the family, most notably Czarina/Empress Alexandria (his wife). But he was quite famously arrogant and stubborn while also lacking any true skill at diplomacy, and most of the time made the wrong choices. If his father had not died when he did then Russia would have likely become a constitutional monarchy a la the United Kingdom, but Nicholas II was against it and had to take over at a young age so by the time he made any motion to move towards that direction it was too late. Also, the Bolshevik’s were masters of propaganda and Lenin made promises to the people that the imperial family would not be harmed, and were being moved for their protection, so that once the “new era” had settled in they would be placed back in with a more controlled influence, instead of being an autocracy. Once it was quite obvious they had no intention of any such thing, the people actually turned on the revolution quite quickly and even joined militia’s formed and organized by Imperial loyalists to try and rescue the Imperial family from Siberia.
It’s not all cut and dry/black and white as “we’re tired of you, your time is up, goodbye.”, and we don’t honestly get a sense of desperation strong or dark enough in Kryta for me to really think this is the direction they’re headed with the story.
There are many monarchies that have survived the test of time and served as a genuine boon to their societies and economies, as is the case of the UK & their commonwealth nations.
If you look & listen around Kryta & Divinity’s Reach, there are a lot of citizens that don’t trust Minister Caudacus and even don’t particularly care for the ministry. Minister Caudacus is an elitist, and quite blatantly so. He, and the ministry actually appear to favor the well being of the elite over the prosperity of the many. Queen Jennah is egalitarian, so while situations out of her control may be constantly straining it seems like the people themselves are quite happy with her overall. She is one of the only remaining secure/constant structures of human society and culture, so I find it unlikely that anyone would support a Ministry or Caudacus takeover of Kryta at this point in time.
The events surrounding this living story become increasingly “international” if you will, with each update. Less centered in Kryta itself where it technically began, and has now become a problem in every region of the accessible world. That alone doesn’t really show me any indication that a shift of power is happening any time soon with the Krytan kingdom. Of course, I could be wrong and you could be right but I really just don’t think that’s going to happen. I really think if they do anything like that it will be relatively similar to GW1 where perhaps if the Minister does make a coup for the throne, we will be actively working towards removing him from power as he is quite clearly an antagonist and restoring the Queen or her family to their rightful place as they really haven’t steered us wrong yet and it would absolutely destroy any genuine connection to GW1, and the game already severely lacks that as it is. Again, most of these events are things that are far out of anybodies control. We’re dealing with very advanced enemies that appear to have almost every advantage against us and NONE of the other races nations are any better than the human nation at preventing any of these catastrophes. I think we’re beyond the point of pointing fingers at any specific person except for the specific antagonists.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Minister Caudacus was in on Scarlett’s attacks, even funding them. It’s already basically been coming out that he is doing this with the Centaur’s and anarchists/bandits to try and make the Queen look more ineffective than she really is. So I think it’s more likely we’d be dealing with him as an antagonist we PREVENT from taking power, rather than someone who actually does take it and forces us to be depressed and disappointed for the next year or two.
Eh, I’m kind of bored of SAB at this point. It’s fun to have, and it would be nice if it were just brought back ontop of another content release, and not as the primary theme. I’m really only interested in the goings on of the world of GW2/Tyria.
Why so much hate for Queen Jennah? She is anything BUT a failure, there’s no way that she would be seen as one given her many successes regardless of the Watchwork situation which undoubtedly could be pointed at somebody other than the Queen, too as it’s not like she’s the one who created them. People aren’t going to just forget the treaty, or the fact that the pact even came to listen about working together partially because of her, or the part where the Order of Whispers is extremely pro-Jennah and part of their job is to ensure the continued success of her reign. Or going back to the treaty, and the fact Ebonhawke would probably be in shambles by now and instead Charr and Humanity are helping each other re-settle the Ascalonian region.
Then you get to Minister Caudacus, who quite obviously is a very vile and evil man and by now many people would be very aware of this, especially following the story in CM and then the Order of Whispers where you find out just how vile and horrible he can be. Queen Jennah on the other hand is egalitarian and extremely popular so while I think your thoughts are interesting, they seem very one sided by disregarding all the successes of Jennah’s relatively short reign (she did, after all accomplish a lot of this in her late teens and early 20s). People just don’t operate that hastily against the very foundation and structure of their society without just cause. Not all that many monarchies have been disbanded because their nation was invaded, especially when the leadership has been quite successful and popular to that point. And you would have to take all of this into account, not just things that are largely out of her hands over the last 6+ months.
What I CAN see happening is Minister Caudacus moving for a coup against the Queen and possibly taking over against everybodies will in a sort of dictatorship, and then we have to fight back and remove him from power, restoring the Queen, or at least somebody of the royal family back to the throne should she die or something.
Also, I’d like to point out that this event is supposed to take place across ALL of the Tyrian region, not Kryta alone.
(edited by Shanna.4762)
Krytan’s are inspired by a host of different cultures. Mediterranean Europe is the primary influence, though…This has been stated by a developer before, and I also believe it is in the Wiki. So basically Greece, France, etc.
It’s important to note that this game is taking place 250+ years after the 1st game, and the other human cultures have largely immigrated to Kryta in that time, and assimilated into Krytan society for generations now. So you see a LOT of Ascalonian (inspired largely by Britain), and then the Canthan (Asia), Elona (Egypt/Africa), and even some Orrian (Middle Eastern) depending on where you look and what npc’s you talk to or over-hear in Divinity’s Reach.
Queen Jennah is Regent of (Human) Ascalon – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Jennah? This has to be a mistake. If not its should be reversed since that honor belongs to the Duke of Ebonhawke – as per a recent post of mine.
Also for convenience: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wade_Samuelsson – clear states Samuelsson’s lineage – thus rightful current claim to the Ascalonian Crown. And thus he is the title holder – King of Ascalon as per events of GW2!
Actually not really. Don’t forget that the Krytan royal family is descended very directly from the same King that the last King of Ascalon was descended from, so this would actually give Queen Jennah presidence over Commander/Duke Samuelsson. It’s important to note that he is not titled “Prince”, or “King” which pretty much indicates that while he could be descended from Kings of Ascalon, the fact he does not hold a Royal title or even a royal style for that matter, he probably isn’t descended from the last King or royal family of Ascalon directly.
Even when royal families become “formers” they still typically keep some of the titular honour’s as a means to keep track of who would be the legitimate claimant to a restored throne in the future. The fact he is just a Duke of Ebonhawke and only a Lord in Kryta could mean whoever his ancestor is was illegitimate and/or married out of the Royal family, so on and so forth. So ultimately Queen Jennah is more directly related to the last King of Ascalon than he is likely to be.
And if that wasn’t enough, the fact that the Monarchy of Ascalon was effectively abolished when the Kingdom was obliterated would mean that a restored regency/throne of Ascalon would more than likely go to the Queen anyways, even if she weren’t so directly related to the last King because she’s the one who made the treaty happen, work, and sustain. Along with getting Ebonhawke re-opened as a result, and helping them expand back out into the Ascalonian region as you see through the hearts that take place there. None of these things were accomplished or even attempted by Wade Samuelsson in the story. One of his dialogues is “Jennah is our ally, but not our Queen.” if you’re playing a human character…Well, looks like that changed with the treaty, and with more and more of the Ebonhawke citizens realizing what the Queen has effectively done for them and becoming supporters of her, I doubt we would really see all that much resistance to her being Queen of human Ascalon. Many modern day Krytan’s are also Ascalonian’s, and their families would be very loyal to her.

I still really just wanna see more “stylish” and “long” options. The ones from the sketches are pretty awesome, and would be pretty epic to have. And seeing pictures of the original sylvari design kind of makes me sad, I really love the way they looked LOL. I like how they literally looked like children or young teenagers and had some somewhat more relate-able appearances. I know it’s extremely wishful thinking but I hope one day we get sub-culture options for characters, and maybe the 2nd pale tree’s Sylvari take the original design. I love my very planty looking person but I think I’d really like the option of the other design as well lol.
A relatively off topic question though…What about the other races like humans & charr, do we post suggestions here since this thread is very active with the developer or should we make another post in those respective forums? I haven’t seen the same activity in the other threads about this type of thing in their forums so I was just curious
(edited by Shanna.4762)
I love Scarlett. LOL
I don’t know why some people are assuming that Lord Samuelsson is a rightful King of Ascalon. The monarch of Ascalon is descended from the very same person that the monarch of Kryta is and Lord Samuelsson’s claim that he is descended from Kings of Ascalon could mean anything. He could be descended through illegitimate means, or his ancestors simply could of been married off further, and further away from the Crown whereas Queen Jennah’s ancestors have remained very directly connected and this would actually make her a much closer relation and thus a far more legitimate claimant to the throne of Ascalon.
I really don’t believe Lord Samuelsson has been a particularly wonderful leader, either for that matter. The people of Ebonhawke are a divided bunch who don’t really seem to have much of a positive opinion about him. He is not the one who managed to negotiate a truce with the Charr, and thus negotiate the (albeit) tenuous alliance that now has Charr & Human’s helping each other in re-settling and expanding out back into Ascalon. These are the accomplishments of the Queen, Lord Samuelsson hasn’t even really kept order in his own city which is now directly connected to Divinity’s Reach through the Asura Gates, and the Seraph have been filing into Ebonhawke and already have set up a base of operations recruiting from Ebonhawke, training them, and helping them maintain as much order as possible and reclaim the land outside of the city. The Seraph are the Queen’s branch of military, and there are just as many supporters of the Queen which would presumably be growing in number as the only victories and successes are being seen from the Queen’s actions, not Lord Samuelsson who appears to just stand there and gloat about his supposed lineage.
Also, Queen Jennah is officially the Queen-Regent of Ascalon according to her Wiki page.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Queen_Jennah
When you get down to talking about who has the more legitimate claim to the Ascalonian throne, I think it’s hard to argue against the victor being Queen Jennah.
What the people of Ebonhawke specifically want could be another matter entirely, but the Queen has a great many supporters both in, and outside of Ebonhawke so I don’t think we’d be seeing two separate Kingdoms so much as a sort of merging of the two. Most of Ascalon immigrated to Kryta, many of them would be very prominent Ascalonian families and the acceptance and support from Kryta would not go completely ignored by any of them that remained in that region.

Yea I can’t find any of the other posts about it that had the item code. I like this mask tho it looks pretty.
I really just wish progression wasn’t stat or gear based. I love acquiring new skins and all, but I really honestly don’t care if I have +2 stats or not, yet I feel inclined to get ascended gear so that I can be really well prepared for WvW and the content I like.
I hate crafting, I loathe it. Having Ascended armor & weapons only truly acquirable through crafting frustrates the ever living heck out of me, and much of the WvW crowed to be honest with you. Being forced to do a type of content that we absolutely do NOT like is frustrating. I’m not saying ascended should be super mega easy to acquire but there should be more avenues/options for acquisition outside of crafting it. It’s account bound anyways, so you can’t even sell it so it really has no market viability in any way shape or form.
I’m tired of having to worry about additional stats, it’s an exhausted method of progression in MMO’s and not what this game was advertised to be about at all. Especially coming from experience in GW1 and this whole “manifesto” thing that was basically thrown out the window when the game launched.
Give us other forms of progression to pursue, go back to the skin acquisition method in some form rather than stats progress. Let us work towards prestige skills, unlocking new weapon types for classes (such as dual pistol mesmer) or something that’s really fun & different.
Giving us factions to join and do quests that are very story driven, or progress/rank driven through jobs within said factions would be fun. You could start with the orders, giving us order missions with a diverse variety of types like espionage, diplomacy, war/combat. Do more with our personal selections such as (using human as example)
Nobility – Queen’s Court // Ministry Guard
Streets – The Underground // Something Else Street-like
Etc, so on so forth. Each one can have different ranks to acquire that come with titles. For nobility you can start out as a Lord/Lady, work your way to a Baron/Baroness, etc and even allow avenues within each sect to converge and allow for more freedom of like a “poor person” to climb to the middle class, and possibly even a lower tier of nobility under the right circumstances (but obviously limit how far 1 character can go with multi-factioning, and obviously if someone were to stick to one primary sect/faction they will be able to attain the highest rank possible whereas if you’re from 1 of the others, you can only get so far inside another one.

I just don’t want any new armor skins (pretty or not), that are not in already poors game features (+ 1 years…) ,end game, rewards…
I don’t want more cash-shop-ONLY-new armors.Or BLK weapons skins-ONLY.
No more ugly ascended armors/weapons crafted in a money sink way, too…
I want to have fun, and get hardly/longly news skins on best-stats-stuff wich MUST be easy to access, like GW1…..And why not selling them TOO in cash shop, for those who got more money than time or patience.
Less LS, more skills, more usefull rewards, more professions, more pvp/gvg/hoh/AB mods…and that’s all.
If we fairly get that a day, maybe i would spend and support game devellopement…On a game that i have already payed, with basically the right to get for free, all stuff inside it, in other way than with a CB ONLY. ( Gems price get an infinite Hyper-inflation…)
We are not all cashcow or korean, we are sometime aware customers.
Like/ Dislike speech is off.
I agree that it would be nice to have new in-game only acquirable sets (I mean, we have ascended now and it’s heck of a pain to acquire, and they’re mostly hideous). So I don’t think people trust ArenaNet’s approach to gear acquisition anymore. Armor Skins are a huge money maker for most MMO’s that have an in-game shop so I don’t begrudge them selling armor skins on there at all for that. But whatever the case I really do hope they put more effort into making genuinely attractive sets in the coming future.
same here, but this is nothing new from GW2 when it comes to them decorating lions arch.
I know, I want more Lyssa. So bored of Dwayna and Grenth themes everywhere.
These are really pretty, as well. I found them on pinterest. Stylish, but different.
PS: Good hairstyle idea as well in the first one. I love the sorta gothic harlequin mask/paint too.
I know I posted the 3rd one somewhere above, but I think the art style fits in with this set so I posted it again.
(edited by Shanna.4762)
I saw this and really liked it.
I’d like to see some Middle Eastern influenced armour, along the same lines as Saracen or Bedouin styles.
I would, too! I hadn’t really even thought about this but Middle Eastern armour can be gorgeous and would really fit the more Elona-inclined players.
I just want some honest to goodness pants for light armor. The viper top would look awesome with a pair of pants of similar material to the top.
Also, maybe some decent boots with heels, my mesmer is displeased with the lack of decent heels for her outfits.
Yeah, mine is too. Lol. The more heels for light armor, the better!
My first contribution is an idea for a mesmer-friendly set using concept art from AION’s bard class.
Slightly offtopic but you can make something which looks like that in game.
I can’t recall anything for the female from the top of my head (although I think the temple (Armageddon) top looks kind of like the female’s).
For the male, Aristocrat top + Inquest pants should look something like that. I’ll find an old screenshot which has it on…
Eh sort of…….But I really like the sleeker look of the one in the art, combined with the frilly skirt lol.
Ok here my armor ideas armor skin that not based off another mmo

Yes i can do this all day…….. Im a big concept art fan and a digital media and 3d animation student
Here some good links for ideas
http://cghub.com
http://conceptartworld.com
http://www.conceptart.org
http://www.pinterest.com/antonsde/character-design-concepts/
Wow those are some amazing ideas! I’ve been browsing when I get the time on pinterest at different concepts and designs that aren’t from other games (that I am aware of) for the sake of variety.
I came across a page that had some really nice ones and I’ll post more from it later but in the mean time, this one is kind of cool to me.
I wish some of the art Devs would post in some of the armor topics so we could talk to them. =/
They do good work, I’d just like some feedback on whether or not it is possible that they might take some of these ideas into consideration.
I agree! Kristen Perry does sometimes post here and there on topics such as these so perhaps she or any other developers may join in our conversation as all are of course welcome to do so.
There is a possibility that this animation, at least in it’s current form is a bugged version of what they were actually trying to accomplish. That being said, they look like they’re in an awkward slow motion full sprint and it looks ridiculous. I didn’t see anyone really complaining about the old animation but I do see people complaining about the new one both on the forums and in game. That should say something to the dev team…
I don’t think they are running low on idea, I think they are running low on time because they have bitten off more than they can chew after promising new content on bi-weekly basis. If they can admit their mistake and slow down on the quantity of updates,i think we can start to see improvement in the quality instead.
There’s nothing wrong with bi-weekly updates it’s how they’re doing them. If they did one update that is only content/pve and then two weeks later did a pvp/balance update then it’d give each team more time.
you have a good point there
Also, it’s important to note that there are separate teams for separate projects in MMO’s and not everything is tied together hand in hand. The art department team that designs armor skins probably isn’t on the same deadline/schedule that the content developers are for the bi-weekly updates, etc.
I love many of these ideas so far! I agree, I would love for them to re-visit some of GW1’s best armor skins and bring them into the game on the gem shop, even if they updated the looks just a little bit to fit into the setting being that it’s 250 years later…Just not too much! That’s what they did with the first set of skins that were available at launch, and there are so many great sets (some of which are linked in this conversation)
I would also love to see skins that are maybe influenced by the aesthetics of the gods. I know they’re sort of-ish doing that with one of the ascended skins (i think it’s the light armor)…Even though they’re not my cup of tea lol.
Many people have requested my next attachment since launch, and we’ve never seen anything about it. I would buy this in two seconds, probably twice over (one for pvp, one for everything else)
Thanks for listening.
+1
This animation is absolutely horrendous lol. There HAS to be a better to achieve whatever they were trying to achieve with this, without this animation.
The minstrel doesn’t have music note footprints?! Wow, missed opportunity there. Le fix, Anet?
I like the hairstyle on the female Aura in the 3rd link, and would actually like some outfits to be feminine on female Asura ¬ just copy/pasted versions of the male skins. So I like those too. Nice find!

Yea, well, they fixed the bug with 2 handed weapons, but it looks like the new “tough guy running” animation is there to stay. You play a toon for 1 year, you kinda like everything about it and then, out of nowhere, some censored censored gets in and changes things about your toon, which no one ever asked anyone to change. “Stupid kittening book” indeed.
Pretty much. It’s really horrible, and irritating a bunch of people because I’ve seen people talking about it in-game ever since it happened. It’s just one of those things you don’t do without at least talking to your player-base about it beforehand. Any developer in previous MMO’s that changed character models or animations didn’t ninja it in like this.
Heavy norn t3 cultural with blue fire. Only fair right?
rofl. yes.
Some other armors I would like to see.
omg the last two lol they’re so pretty! Especially the 3rd one…for my mesmer….
Reinassance Era type of skins. Like Granado Espada. That game even had a community contest for designing new armors and stuff. The first pic I posted was the grand prize winner of the said contest. Although their armors will greatly benefit Humans and Norn and Sylvari to an extent but might be very tough to make Charr and Asura versions.
Oh that’s where that set is from! I think that setting fits GW2’s setting pretty nicely as well. Thanks for sharing.
Well, since so many are extremely angry about the armor skin fiasco with the most recent update where they’ve cheapened and removed the exclusivity of T3 human cultural light armor, one might get the impression that ArenaNet is running low on ideas & creativity or direction for new armor skins to add to the game & gem shop.
I’m creating this thread here for now, because the most people will see it and I want to include as many people as possible in the discussion. The purpose of this thread is to share ideas using art (concept or otherwise), or other pictures to share what you want with the community, and ArenaNet developers alike so that they may potentially draw inspiration from our ideas & also get a good sense of where their player-base stands on the type of looks we want for our characters.
PLEASE keep the discussion civil, and open minded as many of us are bound to have different tastes and opinions so please be respectful
My first contribution is an idea for a mesmer-friendly set using concept art from AION’s bard class.
I am sorry to say this but you accusing Anet of not being creative and I do agree with that to a point, but then you’re posting armor from other games. That has nothing to do with being creative or getting fresh idea’s for upcoming patches. I think that our community can come up with something very nice and stunning that’s not copied and pasted from other games.
Nice. Pardon me (and other people, for that matter) for not being a good enough drawing artists to be able to accurately depict the types of skins I would like to see in game. Excuse me for using art from other resources as a source of inspiration, as almost all concept design is inspired by previous works through out history. And please, excuse me for starting my own topic, and involving the rest of the community to bring about what types of armor they too would like to see in the game using whatever means they feel most comfortable using.
If somebody wants to donate their own unique artwork to the topic and/or Anet, then that would be fantastic. I’m sure we’d all love and appreciate it, but since that currently is not happening, and I’m not going to hold my breath that it will…We’re going to use what we can. There’s nothing wrong with posting art from other games or other types of media to inspire, or get inspired by. It’s simply sharing the styles & imagery we like. We’re not literally asking them to copy & paste these exact pieces into skins in GW2.
As for saying ArenaNet isn’t creative. I didn’t say exactly that, what I said was one could get the impression they’re lacking creativity & direction on their armor skin designs. That’s not saying they really are, but the fact they copy > pasted skins you can already get in-game into the gem shop with fire effects sprinkled on them does not leave anybody with all that much faith, either.
