nah she won’t die, we may be made to think she died. but she won’t die. she’s too powerful just to be taken out that easily. in fact I kind of doubt we are with the real Queen Jennah most of the time she makes an appearance. She doesn’t need to be physically present she can just have an illusion of herself sent forward so a successful assassination wouldn’t really make all that much sense right now. However, it is possible that the real Queen has been kidnapped, but more likely that she will just make a major announcement that pertains to a future update which very well might be the biggest one we’ve had in the game so far. Perhaps one of those updates that have been cooking on the “back end” Colin has talked about before?

I’m really speculating that she will announce either a war, the official victory against Zhaitan and the recovering of Orr, or that she has received contact from Elona. Whether or not she dies, I dunno. I have a feeling an attempt definitely is going to be made but I don’t see the Queen being taken down very easily because she is a mesmer after all there really is no legitimately good reason for her to not use an illusion to give the speech to the public while being in a safely guarded space herself with the people she trusts.

neither should she be overestimated. She has proven inefficient in defending herself, relying on the Charr delegate who is under enough pressure not to give reason for Rytlock to shout at her as it is.

We are assuming that was in fact actually the Queen and not an illusion of her. She’s supposed to be an extremely powerful mesmer, so I kind of doubt she will just die like it’s nothing, and that she doesn’t utilize her abilities when necessary.

I don’t think the Queen is going to die, if she dies in the future it’s one thing but right now I don’t really think it would make much sense and would take a great deal of work on the rest of the game to reflect that. Also, there’s still a lot they can do with her character so it’d be a bit of a waste.

Kristen, for faces I think a lot of people would love to see both very abstract/strange faces and very pretty & relatable faces, I know that personally I see a lot of people talk about wanting both in-game. But I suppose more people may want the pretty faces because Sylvari are being seen as a sort of dryad/nymph race with a natural beauty much like a lot of Dryads/Nymphs you see in various mythologies whether this is intended or not, because a lot of people tend to try and draw things back to what they are used to.

That being said, my request would be to stay true to the vision of Sylvari that you & your team at ArenaNet have pursued – whatever that may be. A lot of the faces are too similar and ultimately don’t change all that much with the sliders so you can easily tell what preset was used, more so than with some of the other races. People also use the same ones too frequently because they are prettier to most people, so I guess the more “pretty” faces you have then the more variety we’d be seeing in the game I guess?

I’m hoping she announces her wedding to Logan, or somebody and has a baby because there needs to be an heir already. Hopefully a girl who will become Queen Salma II or something. Tehee.

I hope she doesn’t die. This will make me angry as they haven’t done enough with her yet.

^ Except that a developer on the art team specifically asked people what hairstyles they’d like to see in the future, a while ago…Like in the Sylvari forums I think it was. So we will get new hairstyles eventually!

I enjoy this update more than some of the other ones, and I’m glad to finally get more content focused on the Queen. That being said, I hope that we do see a much greater amount of content that will cause physical changes to the world. I was hoping that South Sun would at least partially become a stabilized town/settlement, maintaining the events outside of the settlement somewhere, perhaps because as it stands it feels as though we left the settlers in a very bad spot and there’s no sense of finality to that.

I want to see the evolution & growth of the world, the Ebonhawk people’s new settlements outside the city growing and participating in building…Maybe some parts of Orr recovering, perhaps finally getting to the root of the centaur & bandit problems plaguing Kryta & The Queen’s reign currently. All of this could be done through an event-style process with a much stronger emphasis on story development to go with it, less running around collecting baskets & this and that. More actual content to play through, and dealing directly with these things.

More dungeons of the traditional nature, just different things to do in the game at all times, permanently.

We still want to have some content that can happen each year, our holiday festivals, Super Adventure Box, Zephyr Sanctum, and the new Queens Gauntlet are all intended to be content that will regularly return. The goal of having these in our portfolio of event content that can occur again each year is they allow us the opportunity to easily build on something we’ve already completed as themes for some of our releases for year 2.

Yeah, and the Queen’s Gauntlet can very easily be separated from a Jubilee. It’s the inaugural event for these games this time.

from a lore and role-playing perspective, i think i would rather see players outside the arena boycotting this event. if Queen Jennah is so irresponsible with her coffers that she can’t afford to operate this new monument to herself for only two weeks a year, maybe she isn’t fit to rule.

Quite frankly, I don’t think ANY ruler should waste money on a celebration for themselves. And every single year? Really? I mean, Jennah could put that money to good use, like pushing the centaurs away from DR’s doorstep, hiring more people to keep the bandits away from the farmers and from the water supply, rebuilding that lady’s vineyard… And that’s just Queensdale.

Why are you assuming it’s going to be every year? Have you not read that this marks the 10th anniversery of her on the Throne and it is her first Jubilee. It’s a Jubilee, it’s a celebration thrown not only by the Crown but by the Nation & It’s people.

I see absolutely nothing irresponsible about this. And this has nothing to do with money, or funding and quite honestly I don’t believe that Kryta is impoverished what-so-ever as you see very, very little signs of poverty through out the entire region. A lot of the fault for the lack of support in Queensdale is due to the Ministry’s failure to act, and Minister Caudacus disbelief in equality regardless of social status. The Queen is a notorious egalitarian, as in she believes in equal opportunity for all her people and subjects, and her policies reflect her belief in that (just look her up on the wiki). This is a festive celebration of the Queen’s reign thus far, and all it’s successes as well as a commemoration of the perseverance of the human people & culture through the difficult times that have both preceded her succession/ascension to the throne, and dominated since.

The bandit & centaur problem is very likely linked directly back to the Minister, by the way. The Queen has done everything she can that I think any of us could think of to try and overcome these conflicts so if you want to speak from a lore perspective you might want to listen to the NPC’s including at the ministry, the Queen’s supporter’s in the ministry push to send more and more support out into the region to deal with these problems, the Minister’s supporters in the Ministry are constantly trying to reel in support from outside the city, and couldn’t give two kittens about the common folk. The Vineyard is a great example of this, the Minister is the one rejecting aid.

I very much believe that Krytan’s have absolutely every right to celebrate their Queen & culture’s continued steadfastness and that the Queen would be completely right to throw a celebration for her people that celebrates their traditions and the structure of their society, even though it’s not actually she herself who’s throwing it. It’s a institutional tradition, cultural tradition, etc.

This game does cover shades of gray, but it’s also only been almost a year. They haven’t done as much with the characters as they probably will in the future. Queen Jennah needs to be one of the characters that we really learn about and deal with more often in the future. Killing her, especially this early would be a huge waste for everyone and everything and wouldn’t make any sense right now.

I also don’t want another power struggle of choosing between who will lead, yet. We’ve just done the exact same thing with Lions Arch, we don’t need to do that again for a very long time.

No, I do not hope she dies. In fact I would be pretty kitten ed if she did. Members of the ministry on the other hand? I would not be opposed to that.

I don’t want the Queen to die, at all. Nothing that happened in the lore prior to GW2 was her fault and I don’t see any reason to blame Queen Jennah, and only Queen Jennah for that fiasco, and had she died it would of been disaster for all races. In fact, she has done a great deal to protect, preserve and drive man-kind and even the Charr’s continued prosperity which has been a massive benefit to the entire world. Without her, the Orders would not be able to function as effectively as they currently do, either and therefor the Pact may very well have never been possible between both issues.

That being said, I really like her as a character, I want to know a lot more about her and I would be really, really angry if they killed her off. The Ministry, on the other hand…I would probably not mind so much..That would be both intriguing and tragic at the same time without having to destroy our (humans) Queen. Seriously, that would be a dumb thing for anet to do.

Why are people blaming Queen Jennah? She didn’t know about the trap and correspondence had been a mess for a while by then, and it was a desperate situation that would have left Kryta & Humanity without their leader and a succession crisis considering she was very young and had/still has no heir. The repercussion for choosing against Jennah would have been felt for a long time, and possibly ended in all but the total destruction of human kind when you think about it. The Charr treaty, and all the other threats faced by the human race and other races now face.

Also, I doubt they will kill her because she’s a major part of the human story and for new players who would miss the whole assassination thing in the future, it would be extremely confusing.

As for the bandit’s working for the Ministry, I doubt it. Because there are points in the human story that detail the primary sect of bandits, and they are anarchists. They hate both the ministry & the Queen. One such bandit can be convinced to abandon the anarchist movement, sort of.

On a personal level I would be pretty angry with this. I really like Queen Jennah and I would very much prefer see her in the future, handling the things going on in the world in the way she does and learn a lot more about who she is as a character as well as how she faces the challenges in future storylines in GW2. They have not done enough with her yet, and after this they still probably wont have done enough with her. I know there’s hints that there’s another “possible” claimant to the throne should Jennah die without an heir, but that person would be very far removed and not as directly connected to Queen Salma and other such ancestors as Jennah is. This is a very great opportunity to create a very memorable and important character for the IP, with further development and for any future GW games to meet the descendants of Queen Jennah would be really neat.

The Queen’s Jubilee is a festival worth celebrating, though. So I approve of this update.

Jubilee is a perfectly applicable term for the 10 year’s mark. It’s really up to the country, culture, and institution of Monarchy in said country. Kryta celebrates it every 10 years, obviously.

I’m more concerned with how she has no heir yet lol. Girl needs to get busy!

Nobody knows whats going to happen with Cantha, yet. We’ve heard they’ve shelved it and also that they’ve changed their mind and Cantha definitely will happen one day and everything in between.

Yes, the Canthan District is gone…According to one dev lore-wise it never was there in the first place, but then there’s NPC’s in certain story quests that there is a Canthan district somewhere in Divinity’s Reach…It’s all very, very, very confusing and honestly the only true complaint I can express is that ArenaNet has failed miserably at streamlining this portion of the lore and integrating it into GW2 in a way that is clear. When you have developers saying one thing, the game saying another thing it’s a bit of a problem

But please keep this thread as constructive as possible, don’t go around calling people things because they’re passionate about Cantha and obviously vice versa.

Maybe a Canthan District will come about in Divinity’s Reach one day, they could put it in the water with a bridge connecting to the rest of the city, or on another level/tier of the city that we can’t access yet so that it’s not being “towered over” by the rest of the architecture…I dunno, there’s plenty of ways around these issues.

I wish you got an infinite number of skins, it’d be nice and I do think that more people would purchase them that way, but even still I don’t think that will happen any time soon. Maybe as skins get older or something, I dunno.

On a side note, Im so glad we didn’t have to wait til the 6th for the new skins! Soooo glad cause I really wanted the medium one for my thief, so thx Anet for not making us wait :>

yes, but what about adding it to the game and no gems involved? You know, how it used to be in gw1? Why is it that every time an armor is added its automatically has to do something with gems? wtf

Free game makes money how? That’s right, you wouldn’t have any new content without those gems.

Hmmmm lets see, it sold over 3 million, it already has BUNCH of gem store items and no a single new armor was added since the game came out that isn’t on a gem store again. Even if they had no gem store, the 3 mil games sold alone made them a tones of money for new content but nope, gem store is in the game, has a tone of overpriced things in it and they’re making boatload of money over their 3million initial sales.

They need to continue to build profit as an ongoing thing, box sales are great and all but eventually sales decline for any game, and/or the shelf life diminishes so they become cheaper and thus not making as much money for the company. The gem store has lot’s of items in it but nothing really makes money like armor skins in ANY game with a shop. You don’t have to pay real life money to attain these things, you can build up your in-game gold and transfer them to gems. I know the ratio sucks, but again they have to make money and personally I have no real problem at all with shelling 10 dollars out for an armor skin I want, in fact I prefer it because now I don’t have to be mixed & matched for weeks or months to complete a look. Nobody likes that, so it’s nice to get it all there and work on the rest after you’ve got the look.

They will eventually add skins that are attained in-game only, just not yet. I’m pretty sure the ascended armor will be in-game only and have a unique skin to match the weapons. I’m sure there will be new stand alone dungeons that will have new skins tied to them as well one day…But if you want the game to continue to grow & prosper so that we get new content, new armor and weapon skins, etc then I don’t understand why you would complain about this. I could see it if they also charged a monthly fee, but they don’t and these skins are not armor with stats, they are just skins that can be applied to any armor of any value or level. Seriously, though. It’s 10 dollars. 10. So they’re not even over priced, in fact most games charge 15 dollars for armor set skins from their in-game shops.

I am curious what the Magitech one is from, because the other two are novelty based off characters in the game…Magitech is either from a character we haven’t met yet or just made up because they don’t have a medium armor to share yet.

Can’t please everyone. I think they all look pretty good on both genders, the style may not be to everyone’s specific taste but that doesn’t automatically make them awful or ugly.

They fixed it at one point a couple months ago, but it’s bugged again.

Not all MMO’s are CPU bound. This one is, though and that’s why a lot of people have performance drags on GW2 since it doesn’t utilize GPU’s nearly as much as it should. I kind of remember FPS being better at launch than it is now, though lol. These types of things take a great deal of work to overhaul and correct and they did release an update a few cycles ago that dealt with optimizations and said more would be coming at a later date..So it’s just a matter of time I think.

It’s going to be from the gem shop most likely. They’ve only added 1 set of armor skins (the steam punk ones) since launch and it’s been almost a year since they’ve launched the game. Considering these are themed after characters or something, I would say the gem shop is a safe bet…Probably in the next update.

I like it alright but it has the same problem as all current medium armor, your armor is your coat and nothing else, it covers everything and there is no opportunity to individualize your character by mixing and matching.

I offered up a suggestion on how this set could be improved, although as I have said as well I like it…But yeah, I’m tired of trench coats let’s get creative here…The rest of the set is amazing but the trench coat thing just frustrates me. Medium armor should be very stylish and not need coats to accomplish that. When I think of a thief or roguish type of character I think of somebody who is charming, good looking, stylish etc just as much as I think of someone who’s all shrouded in mystery with their coats. Let’s give the other type some love here

For those who don’t want to spend 10 dollars for 800 gems…The gold to gem ratio really, really, really stinks…But ArenaNet has to make money somehow, and this is one of the best ways for them to do so. I’m sure eventually there will be new skins available via in-game means as well but remember that it’s almost been a year since launch and they’ve only had 1 set of skins added to the gem shop. Most games have a dozen or so added to their in-game shops by now so they’ve got some catching up to do!

Until there are a lot more achievements to get across the board this is about right. I’m at respected achiever, and I don’t foresee myself being anywhere above that any time soon.

The collapse replacement not being Canthan disappoints me only in the fact there’s no real district or area that truly represents Cantha. So everyone who was Canthan in GW1 is left out in the human capital right now which really stinks. I’m interested to see what the Royal Terrace will end up being, but I hope that a more present representation of the Canthan’s in Divinity’s reach happens.

mm..-.- so no Canthan district in divinity’s reach then? why are there npc’s and quests that say it was, or that there are Canthan sections of DR then? I find it hard to believe lore-wise that Canthan’s would just forsake their culture to live in DR and not decorate their section to represent that…Especially when the others didn’t.

Hopefully whatever replaces it is awesome, then. But I won’t lie I am disappointed.

the medium is great aside from the trenchcoat part, if they removed the coat looking part (bottom half) of that on the sides, and left the bags and the back part that hangs down, it would look better. but aside from that it’s a much better design than other medium pieces

really hoping they are new additions to the gem shop this time as well as they need to fill out the variety of options in that shop.

Yes, the Krytans are white and caucasian. The Krytans are mediterraneans. They look like the French, Italian, Spanish and Greeks. Brown-dark haired, brown eyes, light to dark skin. I should know, I’m French (from Quebec in Canada) and we all have pretty much that, brown hair and brown eyes. I don’t recall us mediterraneans being Black, Asians or Indians.

It’s not just the British and the Nordic countries, the blonder hair and lighter skins that makes one “white and caucasian”. We are too white and caucasian.

Except a lot of people really just hate crafting, it’s not fun to a lot of players especially not the way this game does it… Which is a bit of a train wreck tbh. So forcing people to craft so they can get the best gear is not the way to go about this, they will end up angering a lot more players than they end up pleasing.

It’s GW1 concept art. Unfortunately a lot of the GW1 concept art never got displayed very prominently. It exists in the back corners of the internet mostly xD.

Ooh, okay. Well honestly at this point I’m pretty sure we will be going to Cantha eventually, just going from what I have heard by the developers lately when it comes to going back to the iconic places from GW1.

The Tengu were purged from Cantha in the Winds of Change. All Tengu now exist in Tyria alone, more specifically secluded in the Dominion of Winds.

Actually, we don’t know if they were totally purged or not. And we don’t know if they have gone back since then, either. They mostly just keep quiet about that type of thing

Not many have surnames, I think there may be one or two but I think it’s also up to the Sylvari as to what naming convention they utilize for themselves, much like everything else about them is typically up to the individual.

Yep, new hairstyles are a must and there’s rumors that they are coming. I saw an old person NPC with a face that I never saw before in Divinity’s Reach the other day…An old woman.

Separatists & Bandits.

Because of the treaty between the Charr & Humans, the region outside of Ebonhawke belong to the humans for settlement, but the separatists are causing a ruckus and making it hard for settlements to thrive. This is something I’d love to watch unfold and deal with in a living story or something.

The bandits on the other hand, seek to dethrone Queen Jennah and remove all forms of government. They’re anarchists and profoundly irritating..They are far more than just rabble & common criminals, though so the theory that they’re actually part of the White Mantle in some form is a strong possibility.

I dunno, I still think it would probably be possible despite what the developer said a long time ago. It might be very hard, and thus very rare to conceive a child between the two…But I dunno, I just would find it hard to believe that being so similar that it would absolutely not be possible, ever.
