God for a Human Elementalist

in Lore

Honestly I think the best way to view it is to base it on your characters personality, and approach to their abilities. For instance, if you were a necromancer, it is easy to just link them to Grenth as their patron, but as it was stated before, humans revere all of the gods. So said necromancer could worship Kormir, seeking truth and hidden knowledge, and be a scholar, who studies necromancy and hones their abilities through study, and knowledge, because while humans tend to believe their abilities come directly from the gods one way or another, most of the other races don’t necessarily worship the gods at all, and yet they still are able to be a necromancer, or an elementalist, mesmer, etc. So it really all just depends on what you envision your character to be like, and who you select as their Patron could simply come from their familial background/heritage, or it could be for the sake of their abilities. I don’t think it is intended to be that just because you are a certain class, that that should be the deciding factor in your choice. Also, life happens, so maybe your characters views changed at some point lol. And yes, I know this is an older topic, but it’s a topic that I think many players have a viewpoint on, and questions about.

Well I am really hoping Kormir reappears and isn’t crazy. We’re going to the Crystal Desert, and we’re dealing with a god, so now is their chance to make Kormir shine. Not to do so would be a huge missed opportunity.

I think it depends on what role, if any, the other gods play in the story. It’s possible they could be benevolent and helpful, it’s possible they don’t reappear at all, and it’s possible they’re all messed up. I’m looking forward to finding out, and I am interested in how humanity responds to it all, culturally.

I don’t know if there’s a quick solution but you need to end up with 3 in a row so putting one in the middle of them ends it. Just keep messing around until you get it, unfortunately.

Yeah, I’ve been doing that, but when I hit the one in the middle, it re-lights the two on the side, and vice-versa forever and ever.

Queen Jennah: Tyrant?

in Living World

Posted by: Shanna.4762

Shanna.4762

I honestly think it was intended to play out as a royal/political intrigue plot that has been brewing since the beginning, and while we’ve heard about Jennah’s ascension to the throne, and the power struggle between her and Caudacus for a long time, this was used in part as a vehicle to move Jennah’s character forward and show that she is a power to be reckoned with.

I also agree with the poster above who talks about comparing this to Great Britain and how it’s not the same thing, and people shouldn’t think about this through real life, and modern eyes. Many monarchies in history had elements of democracy in their nations throughout history (ancient rome/greece/scandanavia), but with the monarch holding the ultimate de-facto authority. We know through a description of the government in-game that the ministry does hold power as an element of check/balance, and is actually an institution more recently introduced during Jennah’s reign. We know that Jennah is described as an Egalitarian who has pursued lot’s of reforms to try and improve the lives of the people of Kryta, and we know that she’s supposedly one of the, if not THE most powerful mesmer currently known. I’ve seen a lot of people talk about how they feel something is “off” about her, and I personally chalk that up to a lack of direct development and involvement of her character in the active storyline until this point, as well as a lot of people aren’t really aware of how she has ruled this far and how benevolent she has actually been. Nothing about her rubs me the wrong way, I don’t think she’s evil or a tyrant, and she was completely within her right to dissolve the ministry when she did, given the circumstances. I do think she knows a lot more than it’s let on to believe, but one should expect this anyway. She is the Queen, after all, and in this world (Tyria) that truly holds A LOT of weight. I think she is one of the more polarizing and interesting characters in the story for all of these reasons, and I really hope we get to see a lot more development of her character going forward. She is one of our only real ties to GW1 through her lineage, after all. She is Queen of Kryta, effectively has become the Queen of human Ascalon (as per the treaty, and her lineage), and her royal lineage also connects her to the rulers of Orr. I think she will, and should have a very large role to play going forward.

As for the popular Lyssa theory, I have mixed feelings about it, but I do think that would be pretty amazing to see lol. Her, or Anise.

Less Outfits, more Armor Skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shanna.4762

Shanna.4762

Nope, there’s a reason why they do outfits and they are technical reasons that make total sense, plus outfits have proven to be more successful with the player-base than the armor skins were.

With Armor Skins, they have to commit about 9 months to complete each set because each individual piece must not only be designed, but they must also put a skeleton for each component so that it will work with each race. There are 3 armor-types (Light/Medium/Heavy) and 5 races to tailor each piece of each set to. With outfits, they don’t have to do even remotely the same amount of work, they can do all of it in one go, for an outfit that can be worn by anyone despite their class, which opens them to a much greater variety of themes for each outfit. Also, you don’t need transmutation charges.

All in all, I am much happier getting a new outfit, to add to the variety and diversity available in the game, on a more regular basis than waiting the better part of a year for a single Armor-Skin set that may not even be usable for my favorite character due to class.

What really needs to happen, is better outfit designs and they have improved tremendously from before. Look at Marjory’s new outfit for instance.

The Return of Human Gods

I really would like to see the return of the gods in some form or another as well, they are interesting and having them as these sort of nebulous beings that watch but do nothing is boring. Especially after Kormir ascending to godhood in GW1. I think a lot of people really want a return to the plots and stories from the first game because they were so good, and so far the stories in GW2 are definitely not as good. I believe we MAY see some stuff relating to them with the current LS plotline, so here’s hoping.

New playable race - good or bad idea?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shanna.4762

Shanna.4762

The only one that makes sense to me is Largos. Tengu would be neat but I think it would take a lot more work to bring them back as a playable race, and they would almost have to bring us back to Cantha afterwords otherwise it would be a wasted opportunity. They may have to wait til GW3. Largos are much more human-like and would be more feasible if you’re looking for a new-comer that would probably perform well in popularity, and would need very little background story, although exploring their civilization would be important in some form, at some point.

Honestly, though I think I would prefer they just stick to the races they have now. I would like them to get back to the Human element of the game, because that’s what made the first game so special and interesting in the first place. The human civilization’s are colorful and extremely diverse in comparison to the other races which are all relatively uniform and lack any genuine diversity. I want to go back to Cantha, and Elona, I want to expand on the Ascalon plotline and see where the newly agreed to “Human Ascalon” goes, and the cooperation with the Charr to rebuild the region. There’s a tremendous amount there that I personally believe would be far more interesting now that we’ve kind of reached the limit of the Sylvari story (for the current era). We could go much further with the Asura, and the Norn as well, but we already know which of the Elder dragon’s is next, which takes a Norn focus out of the question. Bringing more playable races into the equation would come with a certain amount of expectation that they be a focus, and there is a lot of demand for GW2 to go back to the origins more to re-establish the connection between the two games.

Next LW episode

in Living World

Shanna.4762

Umm well I disagree, I think the new Episode had a lot more actual story content than previous episodes did in just one episode. The way it was presented was better, as well. But ultimately I think the update cadence is what it is because they’re actively developing the 2nd expansion, otherwise we would probably be seeing more episodes, quickly.

Give us armor skins instead of outfits!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Shanna.4762

Mike O’Brien just reiterated that armor is the most expensive asset we have in the game. It takes huge amounts of resources to make them work, for 5 races, two genders, 3 weights, and with dyes, mixing & matching, etc.

Regardless of whether people are willing to pay (and not everyone is), they aren’t going to manage to release that many more armor sets per year. In contrast, outfits are easy (fewer designs, no mix & match), so they can release a lot of them.

Except they never look good; they should take an example of other games.

No they don’t look good, the outfits and armor in this game are behind in the times, just not appealing at all most of it, and most of the outfits are copies of things we already have in the game just changed around a little bit and none of it is attractive.

Uhm well thats a matter of opinion, and a lot of the outfits actually do look good, and sell really well. Many are really ugly, yeah and even ones I really like have certain things about them that can be awkward to me, but ultimately I think they’re improving A LOT. Look at Marjory’s new outfit in Season 3, and I can’t wait to see what Kasmeer’s new one is.

I like the pristine, open, and organized city and I want it to stay that way, but it definitely could use a little more color and be a little bit less “featureless” in some areas.

Thank you ArenaNet, you should know that you make an enormous difference, and positive impact with your approach on this. Things like this really do make a difference in the long-term, and we are finally seeing the long overdue shift in our society towards acceptance, and inclusiveness. New Lion's Arch Design

in Living World

Posted by: Shanna.4762

Shanna.4762

I actually really love the new design, though I do agree some areas feel a bit sparse, but I think it’s done on purpose to accommodate the player populous & community (on blackgate, it makes it feel significantly more spacious which was desperately needed). Old LA was way too condensed and claustrophobic between the garbage everywhere, and the significantly smaller scale of the design with the original city which was designed to feel taller & stacked, rather than wider in many places. I feel like this could be adjusted by adding more wandering NPC’s, especially those that look like sailors (although, given the new direction of the city post-destruction, I think it is correct for it to move away from being a pirate haven, to being more organized and clean so the NPC’s should reflect that as well as maybe more civilians with their caravans full of stuff moving back into the city.)

Countess Anise, just who is she really?

in Lore

Posted by: Shanna.4762

Shanna.4762

Honestly, I think Countess Anise is mostly who she says she is. She may not truly be young and beautiful, because mesmer’s lol and I remember a little factoid about how she was Queen Jennah’s companion growing up, before she was what she is now.

A companion in aristocratic societies are usually a friend brought in to an heir or heiress of something to be a confidante since they live a gilded cage lifestyle, and companions are usually older than the person they are there for. So I honestly don’t think Countess Anise is anything like a sylvari disguised as a human, the most likely scenario is probably a much less sinister one. If anything, I think the Anise/Jennah switch up is most likely out of all the conspiracy theories.

On the subject of the locket revealing who the heir to the throne is, should the current sovereign die heirless: They revisited the subject a little bit during season 2 of the story where you are helping the Durmand Priory find the locket, and you can ask who it is but the magic on the locket was in a weak state so they had to get it back to the priory and let it recover before using it. I feel like in this subject it’s alluded that your character (if human) is the heir to Queen Jennah, if you connect the “dots” so to speak from the beginning of your personal story all the way to season 2 (I think it’s the same despite your social class, but as a noble your family has been very, very close to the Royal family since the day’s of Queen Salma). Your race gives you different dialogues with everyone if what’s going on is important to your race specifically, such as the locket, or the crown of Ascalon you’re trying to deliver to Queen Jennah as per the treaty after Rytlock uses it for the ritual he disappears in, and then everyone comforts you that you’ll get the crown back once we find Rytlock if you speak to them.
