I inherited this display name from my wife at launch. She was unable to sync her gw1 stuff at the time so she bought another account and gave me this one. I asked three years ago to have it changed and was told to be patient.
All they have to do is add an option for display name instead of using the account name. It’s not that kittening hard.
Account Name and # = used by Anet for whatever reason they need to use it for.
Display Name = Just a name linked to your Account Name and number and is what shows up on your forum posts, in your friend list when offline.
Character name= self explanatory.
LMFAO!!!
I’d actually like to have the ability to change this as well, my user name was made during beta when it wasn’t very clear that this would be a permanent thing that everyone could see lol….
no I like how they’re doing it now.
Being a little opportunistic here. The following link takes you to a GW fanfiction I am currently writing. Cantha is featured as a major player against Kryta and other nations/factions in a distant future in it so I believe you guys might be interested
As always, I hope ArenaNet can provide further and more direct responses on this topic. Thanks.

Nice, thank you for sharing
To be fair, they’ve responded a few times and even talked a little about it in developer chats, but nothing concrete on the issue. I think it’s important to keep this discussion going for both veteran and new players of both games. Even if we don’t get Cantha in GW2, perhaps it will change things for the next installment of the franchise (GW3) etc.
I loved Cantha, but there are REAL social (and now economic) concerns here that will prevent it from happening. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that part of the “agreement” with being able to do a Chinese game included NOT doing any Canthan content (that is potentially offensive to some oriental cultures).
Not gonna happen (and I’m not happy to say that at all).
Agreement with whom?
I have a hard time believing Anet would give up Cantha in exchange for release in China. If anything a good representation of east asian culture would make Cantha very attractive to Chinese players, in the same way that I as a Swede enjoy Norns, despite not drinking alcohol.
Yeah, they’ve included more “Canthan” themed things for China’s release actually. The rumour I think they are referring to is about NCSoft & ArenaNet not coming to an agreement on having a uniform design for Canthan areas or content because Cantha was a combination of different oriental cultures and they didn’t think that would go over very well with the Korean audience. It’s a controversial subject, because many Asian players have been requesting Canthan content right along side everybody else so it’s possible that either NCsoft had ulterior motives behind that situation, or that it didn’t really happen at all.
I primarily play humans….>.>
Happy to see this thread still going strong!
I think it’ll stay that way for a while. I think most players want to go back to Cantha, and I’m hoping that since the expansion brings us to Maguuma, our next expansion will take us south across the sea to Cantha, and we will go full circle all the way until we reach Isles of Janthir north of Kryta.
I don’t think they will, they kinda hinted that the pact where going to the crystal desert before Mordi showed up. So they’ll probably head that way. Then have to deal with Joko, then we’ll have Elona’s help to fight Jormag. Then we can head to Cantha from Istan, fight bubbles before fighting Primordius.
I would be very excited to go back to Elona as well so I wouldn’t be too disappointed with that, but still…Cantha was a real big staple for me with the first game.

I think we need to see incentivized WvW so that servers can look to their communities to participate in WvW for a more balanced population presence.
Weekly rewards for 1st-3rd place, and these rewards should be substantial and worthwhile.
I think we could benefit from getting some actual fashion designers to design the armors and costume, then let Anet make them. After this most recent Daydreamer’s Finery for females, with high heels over thigh high sock, it’s obvious some outside views are needed.
I agree with needing fashion designers to design armor and outfits, but high heels and thigh highs are awesome if done properly (I am taking fashion & design, now!).
The problem I have with the Daydreamer’s Finery is that the skirt part on females is too bulky in the front so the two long side straps in the front on either side of the center one could of been significantly shorter, and I feel like it didn’t necessarily have to be a complete two piece, it could of had a couple connecting points that still retained the midriff. I think this would give the outfit a more balanced appearance. Aside from that the rest of the outfit is beautiful from an artistic standpoint, and their attention to the smaller details is spot on with that.

I like both, I prefer outfits.
I would prefer armor skins be attainable in game like they’ve done with the Silverwastes, whereas Outfits are in the gem shop. Eventually, if they do enough great outfits, people will be wearing tons of different ones so the “clone” problem will fix itself….But they need to really try and make great, stylish outfits and some of them have been the total opposite of that.
I also want to see Istan and Elona, I hope we get more of the original lore incorporated into the game via living world + expansions in the future.
Cantha will always be at the top of my list though.
The other gods outfits.
I kinda wish the front of the skirt wasn’t soo bulky and busy, like if the two side straps weren’t there it would look better (in the front, on either side of the one in the center)
The Gods Outfits!!!
1) Dwayna
2) Grenth
3) Lyssa
4) Melandru
*They’ve already done Balthazaar so there’s a good chance we’ll see these others soon! I’ll post Balthazaar at the bottom so people can see how it’s exactly the same as the outfit in-game.
I like single piece outfits. I liked the other way, too but I prefer this because I don’t need to constantly transmute and fill my inventory with alternatives anymore unless I get bored. I would prefer they keep doing outfits, and then make individual armor skins earned in-game like the silverwastes sets.
lol I forgot about these animations which tells me that it’s been way too long. I would definitely like my animations back, though.
Traditionally, even “today” human mesmers are regarded as trendsetting fashionista types, with an almost uncanny beauty/physical perfection because they’re blessed by Lyssa.
However, the question has always been….Is it an illusion?
It’s terrible, I know. I’m on Blackgate and it almost never goes off full, they have to just keep trying and eventually they will get in, it’ll take a while tho
I finished my Elementalist which is Sylvari specifically for this reason. I’m just glad Anet finally made a hairstyle I like for them (the new pigtails one), and the exemplar outfit. because I don’t want to wear plants.

Since the treaty, and the goings on with the Dragon’s, Pact, etc…Divinity’s Reach has become more of a melting pot as all races appear to be immigrating there similarly to how they have moved to Lion’s Arch…It’s predominantly a human Kingdom, and probably (hopefully) always will be, but watching other races integrate themselves with human society and custom’s is a really interesting prospect.
Also, Queen Jennah is now Queen-Regnant of Ascalon as per the treaty (check wiki), so both Charr & Humans are resettling in the Ascalonian regions jointly. You see the Charr helping human settlement’s and vice-versa in the region and the joint endeavor to rid Ascalon of the ghosts. So it makes sense that we would see both races in each other’s cities. For the time being, the past seems to be further and further buried as the tasks of the present day seem to be never ending. Common goals are usually the best way to build bridges and mend fences with previous enemies.

If Evon won, not only would we have had Lion’s Arch rebuilt, but we’d also have tax reform, universal health care, and racial marriage equality.
Kiel should definitely stop writing threatening letters to Mordremoth, and instead focus on helping the immigrants to LA get a fair shake.
Bull Crap!! Did you listen to Gnashblade complain about having to donate his tools and resources to rebuilding LA when every one was relocated to Vigil Keep? The guy is flat out nasty, selfish, and inconsiderate of others. He’s the bad guy, and bad news to everyone else.
Pretty much this.
I think Kiel was the right choice, I also think it’s time for Kiel to appeal to the other government’s of Tyria and seek for the abolishment of the Captain’s Council. I remember the NPC who explains the council and how it operates…Too easy to corrupt. Evon would be a nightmare as ruler, Kiel could be something awesome with the right support.
Divinity’s Reach was the primary donor of supplies to help Lion’s Arch in the events, so perhaps Kiel should seek an audience with Queen Jennah on the subject
I want LA to be fixed, but I don’t want it to be anything like it was before, or like it is now. It’s time for big, sweeping changes for the region, otherwise the catastrophe’s will seem pointless in the end.
Well to be fair, I seem to recall Kiel calling for more defenses in the city but the rest of the council was like “meh”. So it’s not really her fault. Let’s not forget she is not the sole ruler of Lions Arch, she is part of a council.
Maybe she should be.
There’s plenty of new outfits coming to the gem store soon.
WTB this. I’ll donate too. Can we kickstarter or indiegogo capes for gw2? LOL
I was thinking that they could make armor skins based on dragon champions, kinda like the Shadow of the Dragon armor skins but with the Shatterer, Claw, and Tequatl (maybe the Great Destroyer too). Also the skins would look different depending on your armor type like the Carapace/Luminescent armor.
I love this idea, too. These types of things could be acquirable in-game by doing the Dragon events, or something related.
Cantha. For sure.
I sort of prefer the outfit method, but the lack of control in customizing them can be a little frustrating. If they added more toggles like toggling off belts, and added more dye channels then it would be a superior system imo. Also, as it stands there’s only a few outfits that are worth having right now.
That being said, I enjoy having new armor skins added with ways we can get them in-game such as the new carapace armor sets.
Here’s more idea’s for armor skins/outfits
Nice bump, I almost forgot about this thread. Looking through now makes me wish some of these sets were really in the game.
I’d like to see White Mantle armor from GW1 still. There’s quite a lot of designs though in this game I like, I just wish I could get my weapons to match up (it’s difficult to enjoy sword/shield on a knight, for example).
Yeah, I agree. I know I’ve suggested it in the past but I would really like to see a modern iteration of outfits or armor skins based on the gods of the world, as well as weapons. We have the back pieces, after all. Also armor/outfits that match up with each class a little better to help give more signature appearances for people, although the new Carapace armor’s are really good for the most part, and I’m glad the medium armor has finally started to drift away from trench coats. I love the carapace medium armor, I feel like medium armor should share similarities with light in this way because the classes that would use it would not usually be looking to be bogged down by heavy coats and stuff.

According to… Ree, I think it was… Jennah’s in a similar situation to Elizabeth the First was in English history. She’d like to have Logan as Prince Consort or whatever the Krytan term would be, but her current political situation is such that it’s not practical to claim a commoner as such. On the other hand, for a reigning queen she’s starting to get pretty old to be unmarried and without an heir (she’s been reigning for over ten years – we don’t know what the age of royal majority is, but this implies she’s in the vicinity of 30) so it’s possible that she’s putting the succession at risk in the hopes of engineering circumstances by which she can have Logan: such as Logan doing something sufficiently impressive that nobody can call ‘favouritism’ were he to be granted a patent of nobility.
Which, incidentally, also explains why she keeps pushing him to go out and be her champion rather than sticking to her as a bodyguard like glue – he’s not going to do anything that will allow her to push a patent of nobility through while sticking at her side 24/7.
(It’s also worth noting that, while it has been retconned since, the Queen’s Jubilee LS occurred when ArenaNet was still claiming that what was happening in the LS was simultaneous with, rather than happening after, the Personal Story. So the details there have to be considered in the light that it was written with the assumption that Logan hadn’t buried the hatchet with Rytlock and helped kill an Elder Dragon at the time.)
She became Queen really young, as a teenager. So she’s actually in her mid 20’s.

Here’s more idea’s for armor skins/outfits
(edited by Shanna.4762)
I wouldn’t mind if it’s done right but I would actually prefer to have my characters portrait on the forum instead.
These. Things inspired by them, they have a mesmery feel that I need. And the last one is from promo of GW2 mesmers prior to launch.
I want a “new” Lions Arch, too. I don’t want it to be what it was before, it needs to look significantly different…Otherwise, what was the point? Perhaps under the new leadership, new ideas for LA could be incorporated. New architecture, new uses for the pirate ship theme, more opulant palatial buildings to show off the perseverance of Lion’s Arch and the wealth of Black Lion Trade and most importantly, the hustle & bustle should be doubled or tripled with NPC’s wandering around living their lives…Because it’s a port city, and I’ve always felt like it seemed as though nobody actually -lived- there.
That being said, I actually would prefer new cities to be built, as said above in Maguuma, as well as the rebuilding of Orr in the future. (I really, really wanna see a restored and healed Orr. Badly. One day.)
Yes, feature packs have become my most looked forward to updates because they address and improve the base game functionality and streamline features, or add new ones.
Re-Requesting this: If the image will upload this time -.-
We don’t know if the Emperor is, or isn’t Xenophobic because it’s been hundreds of years. Who knows what the current Monarch thinks, perhaps all these little Canthan inspired things popping up are a sign that the current Emperor/Empress is keen on opening Cantha up to the rest of the world again.
What gave you the impression Usoku died after two-hundred years.
It’s been 200 years. Lol. Anything could of happened in that time, Cantha may be completely razed for that matter, or it could be doing perfectly well, or stayed just about the same. Who knows. It’s a perfect opportunity for ArenaNet either way even though I’m hoping it’s stayed relatively the same in some aspects. Like I don’t want it to lose it’s oriental theme or anything, and I would still love for Kaineng to be there as this gigantic sprawling Metropolis.
“Anything could’ve happened”. Usoku may be well over two-hundred years old, loyal officials claiming that through sheer patriotism he will not perish until Cantha has been stripped and healed of evil. He’ll not suffer interlopers from Tyria disrupting his fragile hold on whatever secret power sustains him.
Maybe we’ll (in-game characters) start discussing going there after Mordremoth is put down and the rest of Tyria is explored (Orr cleansing a plus?).
I would love to see Orr cleansed, we started the process about 2 years ago in the time-line, so it would be neat for them to periodically update parts of the maps into being cleansed. I know it’s probably unlikely to happen like that, at least without a living story bringing us there for it…But either way it would be epic to see our efforts there brought to fruition and eventually for Orr to be given a new purpose after the cleansing is complete.
As for Cantha and the Emperor, I could see a really interesting political intrigue story-line there when/if we get there!

So I don’t know if Kristen Perry is still monitoring this thread but here goes my late input. I just started a floral design course last week and I was already thinking of random hairstyles for sylvari, then I saw this thread and got super super excited. To address something mentioned earlier first:
As far as conventional beauty standards and ‘uniqueness’ go for faces + hair, I think customization should be about giving people the option to make what they want with what they /like/. By all means though, keep them looking like trees and plants. I’ve just always been one for balance and I’d even use both typically pretty and abstract faces myself.
If I had a say in hairstyles, I’d personally like to see some kind of thick bodied curls. I know curls are usually shafted in games because it’s seemingly labour and processing intensive, but I like to think there’s a way to make it work with textures and layers. I’m not an expert though haha. In any case, I’d really like something like this:
(The ferns if kept could remain green for neutrality and the flower, pink pearl grevillea, could possibly be a dye-able accessory.)
omg, this is beautiful.
Something like this.

yes please!!
Just because Asura don’t have breasts doesn’t mean they can’t still wear the feminine version of clothes, just look at the ancestral outfit. It’s far, FAR more suiting. Sexy is not the word I’d use because they look like 6 year old girls, but definitely feminine and girlish. This has always been one major reason why I never played an Asura until recently because I don’t like that the girls had to wear the male version of armor.
This subject has been going on since the launch of the game because people have always been disappointed in this. With the fact that some of the newer costume outfits now being the female version, they’re obviously trying to do it where they can, they will probably never go back and do it for older skins but hopefully for everything in the future they will.

I love outfits more than individual armor skins I need to transmute, but being able to toggle parts of them would be nice. Like the ceremonial one is awesome except for the part where I hate poofy pants.
I think Countess Anise & Canach are too humourous for the Countess to be a traitor. If she is, that would be sad. And if so, the Queen is supposed to be the most powerful mesmer there is.
Reabsorbed into the Kingdom of Kryta, captain’s council abolished because they’re failures and that system of government is basically set up for failure as it would be all too easily bent to bias, then rebuilt as a multi-racial hub under the joint observation and guidance of Queen Jennah & Captain Kiel who is made the immediate political leader under or next to the Queen for Lions Arch and it’s immediately surrounding region. Connect it more to the rest of the region. Considering it’s in an otherwise Krytan region except for the city itself this makes the most sense.

+1
Need this armor for my mesmer ever since I saw it in the mesmer video pre-launch. It’s a combat set in the video, so there’s no reason why they can’t work on turning into a light armor set.
I think it was removed because it was low resolution or not up to some quality standard, and I think it was only ever on NPC’s from what I remember about it. But yeah, it would be nice to see it completed and put in as an option.
