They’re jerks. I understand they’re trying to protect themselves because they’re insular and paranoid due to their long history of issues with other races, but still. Way to just murder everyone who even comes near a wall.

Yeah, I agree that not everyone has to like this armor style, or the next but I do appreciate that they’re trying to get creative. I think the armor designs themselves are gorgeous here, I’m not a conservative person by many means so I’m not bothered by the illusion of nudity. But again, I think of the blue part as a magicy type of armor, and makes us look statue-esque on purpose, I can appreciate this and more control being given over the blue portion would be fantastic. Or turning it off when you toggle off the helmet or something…I’m repeating this because I know now that they’re reading the thread.

I don’t want ArenaNet to get all conservative and boring on us because people worry about how “sexy” the armor is but what they’re seeing as sexualization of the armor, I’m just seeing as art depicting the form of the characters while keeping it actually covered. It’s the same as form fitted armor, except here we have a magic type of cover. Before, people were complaining that they were too conservative and making ugly armor skins, now some people are complaining that it’s too revealing when in reality it’s not actually revealing anything but gives the illusion of it. They cannot please everyone, and that’s why they shouldn’t try. Go one direction with one set of skins, go another in the next. And that’s what I believe they’ve been doing.

The artists/Anet have done a really superb job with these skins (I’m not overly partial to the heavy one personally, but It does look great on the right characters). And I want to let them know I do appreciate the effort they’re putting into giving us stylish and different armor skin choices rather than just being boring and unimaginative with all of it.

It’s all about choice. If you don’t want to dress skimpy, then don’t. If you do, than by all means go for it. I wish people would stop trying to dictate what’s acceptable for everyone because they themselves are conservative. There have been a couple of armor skin releases that are not very skimpy, and some that have been…What’s the big deal?

When it comes to the Zodiac Armor specifically, I think the blue skin thing is intended to be magic armor or something, and not actual skin. It’s more statue-esque in nature, it’s art. Let it be beyond allowing us to customize it better to suit our characters

I really have to stress again that I think the armor designs are gorgeous and exotic. I wish we were given more control over the blue skin thing, even if we could just dye it (which I think would be a huge selling point, tbh). I want to be able to toggle my helmet off, and not have a blue body so that it matches my face more. We could accomplish that just by dying the blue skin part to better match our characters colors while maintaining all the fancy cool zodiac effects. That, or an alternate version without the blue, or toggle helmet off and the blue skin goes away and they slightly censor the chest pieces on girls if they absolutely have to due to conservative people (which I think would be a travesty and a mistake tbh, but whatever). Really, the aritsts/devs did a phenomenal job on the armor design this time as far as I’m concerned (and you can tell from my signature) that I’m not always the easiest critic so I really would like to at least let them know that as I have a feeling some of them are quite frustrated with all of the criticism’s on their gem store skins.

Shanna.4762

Voting for Kiel was the right choice, I’m actually starting to see more and more of why this is the case imo. The thing about Evon, is that he was not very well known, except for the fact his character has always been questionable and sketchy. Who’s to say Evon wouldn’t have bought out to Scarlet if he were elected? Who’s to say he didn’t help fund some of this nonsense to exact revenge? He wanted to abandon LA during the attack, he didn’t want to lend his aid post-attack…Kiel is giving him an opportunity to work his way up, not buy it. And I think that might be the direction the government of Lions Arch (council, or not) take in the future. I think she’s going to make a push to decrease corruption due to wealth…Whether or not she is successful, or goes overboard all remains to be seen.

But, they were warned by Kiel. Evon didn’t truly warn them directly he just went on a rant a long time ago which was easy to dismiss at the time. Kiel made a really huge push to prepare Lions Arch, it’s citizens, and the Lionsguard while petitioning the council to take action as well. They didn’t listen, and therefor I think the council should be abolished and Ellen Kiel made de-facto leader/regent for the time being while changes are made to the structure of the government in this place.

I agree that I don’t want the armour itself changed, I see nothing wrong with revealing/sexualized armor in a video game. If you don’t like that style, you don’t have to use it. Same as real life, if you don’t want to dress a certain way then you don’t have to..Doesn’t mean the next person shouldn’t be allowed to.

my only request has been that the blue turns off when you toggle off the headpiece, or that they release an alternate version so I can switch and have my normal skin showing when I want to because I prefer my character’s face/hair/etc to the helmet.

Purposeful severing of ties to GW1?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shanna.4762

Shanna.4762

Honestly, I feel more patriotic towards Divinity’s Reach because it’s so much a part of what we helped to build in GW1. So between the two cities I think LA is the correct choice. DR is becoming a melting pot of races, and a far more interesting city to boot as far as I’m concerned. LA has always just been there, so it’s like we might be saying goodbye to an old “friend”, which is tragic in it’s own right but not so devastating that I would want to throw in the towel and be done. If something happened to DR, I would be angry for so many more reasons than just the fact it’s tragic and horrible as that would truly be a severance of the connection to GW1.

Humans as a race have endured far too much as it is, the fact that humanity is relentlessly against the odds at this point is becoming a fatigued and exhausting point in the overall story and situation. What I really want to see is the impact and fruits of the Queen’s treaty with the Charr, and for all of us to band together and finally deal with the threats to humanity once and for all and to really truly overcome it all for the time being (in this area of the story).

I think Lions Arch would be rebuilt again if it’s destroyed here. Maybe not in GW2, but possibly in a potential GW3. It’s a City that is no stranger to upheaval, destruction, reconstruction, and change so I don’t really see that changing within the franchise…Ever..

Anet to step the “F” up on your armor designs. I don’t want to feel like a medieval warrior when im playing a fantasy game. Where is the logic behind wearing realistic looking armor fighting non-realistic creatures…? I want to feel like the strongest, most kitten guardian there ever is. But shiet, with my armor looking like crap and my dps sucks because I like the support role i PvE I don’t feel like im even participating in something anymore….Get your stuff together…fast!

LOL That guy’s armor is huge. I definitely want to see more variety across the board. Heavy and medium armor in particular suffers from “bleh” syndrom tbh. I agree with you, I don’t really go for “realistic & practical” armor in my fantasy games where I’m fighting dragons and entire armies of mole people.

I run fractals a lot with my friends, and yeah the dredge fractal is tedious and annoying as other’s have stated largely due to the time-sink encounter. I prefer Fractals to be quick and challenging rather than drawn out and boring. Also, a title achievement would be nice considering how often I run them it would be nice for the fractal runner achievement had a title associated with it at x number of completed fractals. Something prestigious and cool, not silly.

For more drawn out PVE experiences, I really want new dungeons away from fractals. New storylines, achievements, etc but I guess this wouldn’t be the discussion to talk about that in.

I wanna see the captains council collapse due to their failure to act, and for Kiel to swoop in and take total control as she’s the only one according to the living story that’s trying to do anything about it. A new unlikely partnership with Evon would be lovely to watch play out over time, as well. The Admiril is still around in his giant mansion, I would like to see him take a larger role as well and maybe be reinstated to some level of authority rather than being a ceremonial figurehead like he currently is.

As for dying…The head captain guy, Magnus…Haha…I don’t want Canach to die, because I think he is intent on eventually reversing the damage he did to Southsun Cove, so he’s a necessary pain in the you know what to keep around for the time being.

I think it’ll probably be razed, at least the wooden portions of it. A lot of it is a shanty-town, so if it was set on fire it would probably burn down completely and only the buildings made of some type of stone or brick would be standing, and I think that’s what will happen to Lions Arch.

It’ll probably become a contested area full of events, and things where we have to retake it at some point, but I doubt it will look the same afterwords. I don’t think it’s a nail in the coffin connecting to GW1, as I feel like there’s already very little connecting the two so far so if anything we may stand a greater chance getting back to the roots and foundation of the Tyria we knew after this living story concludes. One can only hope, but I don’t think I’ll really miss Lions Arch in it’s current incarnation and the LA from gw1 is mostly under the water.

Shanna.4762

Queen Jennah probably has a really significant “pull” in Lions Arch, as it is still within Kryta and the two governments appear to be quite close allies, helping each other where they can. But LA is more of an independent city-state for the time being since it’s re-establishment but I have a feeling that’s going to change in the coming months. In the living story, Kiel is the only member of the captain’s council taking Scarlet’s threats seriously, and rallying the defenses and handling the logistic’s to the best of her ability but in the last story-instance it was said that the Captain’s Council is going to remain idle in the issue.

The government and structure of Lions Arch and it’s immediate surroundings are probably going to change, or shift away from the Captain’s Council as it’s central authority. That’s going to be my theory, Kiel will probably attain primary governing power and it’s possible that it could be re-integrated with the rest of Kryta on some level as it connects directly to it but Queen Jennah would likely still only hold a significant pull there and little more. I agree, though that if it were to be returned as a territory of the Crown and thus be under the Queen’s jurisdiction then I see really no reason what so ever as to why that would hinder or derail racial equality, or why it wouldn’t remain a multi-cultural hub. The Queen is famously known to be egalitarian, she believes in the equal rights and pursuit of prosperity for all inhabitants under her rule regardless of their race or class/caste/whatever. Divinity’s Reach is already becoming a melting pot as you can see Norn, Asura, Sylvari, and even Charr wandering around openly and freely and even titled as a citizen/civilian. This is largely why she is seen as a very popular leader even outside of her accomplishments.

When it comes to Ascalon, again they (ArenaNet) are saying she is in fact the Regent of Ascalon post-treaty. If you go back to Ebonhawke, Commander Samuelsson no longer mentions anything about being descended from a royal ascalonian line and instead has been placed in the farms talking about getting old and wanting to retire to a quiet life. He does not even seem to be married, or have any children as he never mentions anything about his wishes for the actual future of Ascalon. Some of the NPC’s are talking about increased support, and trust in the Queen by the people of Ebonhawke and going through those zones there are both human and charr settlements being built and a joint effort to rid Ascalon of the ghosts. The goal appears very much to be that the Charr & Humans share the region in a mutually beneficial agreement to both cultures/societies, instead of fighting over them. Many of the Charr are remorseful for what happened even if the accomplishment itself is a proud one from a pure “accomplishment” point of view for their race. I foresee Ascalon being a region of two separate nations. The Charr, and the Humans as it is rather large and we could potentially go into the deeper regions of the Charr homeland and eventually reclaim that for our allied Charr.

Dear Anet,

I’m an avid GW2 fan. I’m not usually on the forums because if I’m thinking GW2, I’m in game.

But I’ve hit a serious snag. I’ve got this character, in game, that I designed at launch. I love her, she’s pretty cool and pretty tough to boot; she’s a mesmer, and man, light-armor class girls get all the cool armor – right?

Nope. She’s been untouched since I made her. I’ve debated multiple times re-rolling her as a male character. I can’t find a single cute, girly armor for her. And the reason for this is:

She’s an Asura. And all the Asura armor is sized-down male armor. All of it is masculine; there are no cute skirts, no cute tops, everything is for ‘little boys’. Which might be ok if you’re playing a tomboy character, or a warrior, but she’s not: she’s a FEMALE. And she wants female, feminine clothing. I want feminine clothing for feminine female characters. Human, Sylvari, and Norn females get a variety of armor that ranges from ultra-feminine to gender neutral, but Charr and Asura get stuck with the male version of armors. Nor is it just light armor – Asura and Charr are stuck with male armors, regardless of class.

Despite this, their ‘bathing suits’ are pink and ultra-modest. Treated like females, but not given female clothing.

I understand that the Asura and Charr models don’t have breasts like the females of other races have, yet the lack of feminine clothing for their races is extremely frustrating. Going through the armor, mix-and-matching, trying desperately to find SOME combination of armor that might look cute and feminine – something fitting a white-rabbit Asura with a love for pink – and finding nothing but masculine armor is depressing, and more than that – limiting.

The female models of armor already exist for human, Sylvari, and Norn Races. If male armors can be cut down and reshaped to Asura (or resized for Charr), it is possible to do the same for female armors. I know Anet is full of talented, amazing programmers and designers who CAN do this. Isn’t it time to offer a range of male AND female armors for the Charr and Asura races?

Some armors I’d dearly love to have female versions of for Asura would include Cabalist, Feathered, Armageddon, and Aetherblade. Just – something, anything, that gives more variety and versatility for female Asura and Charr.

LOL! I love that picture. Seriously, I agree with you 100% the Asura females need pretty feminine armor options. It’s always boggled my mind that even when the female version of an armor set isn’t particularly based on “sex appeal” they still get the male version.

A subscription wouldn’t work in GW2, I don’t mind the gem shop because It’s optional so I can buy as much as I want, or never and it doesn’t really hinder me not to. I get to pick and choose where/when/how/why to spend my money and I like it that way rather than sitting on a subscription that I may or may not get something out of each month that justifies it for me for a long period of time.

Would I enroll in some sort of 5-10 dollar VIP program that grants purely cosmetic perks?? Possibly. But that would probably enrage the gw2 player base at this point if they did that.

I really resented the fact that my personal story revolved around him and his wyld hunt. I’m glad he had his mission to cleanse Orr and I was glad to help, but I feel like that should of just been few chapters in a story that should of revolved around me more.

I don’t want living story to replace personal story, though. Because I really don’t feel like I know the living story characters on the same level I know the ones in the personal story because there’s no real presentation of dialogue with them other than a quick click-through menu that I have to read.

But, my main is a human noble mesmer, and I know next to nothing about her personally because I had to deal with everything else going on. I don’t know the Queen, Logan, Countess Anise, Lord Faren, Minister Caudacus, or any of the side characters as much as I believe I should. I don’t know anything what so ever about my past, or about my family other than they’ve worked closely with the royal family for generations in an extremely mashed together and rushed summary. I didn’t have to make many important choices for myself or anything that truly revolved around me, and was more making moderately important choices for Trahearne because he said so.

I found all of this underwhelming, frustrating, and disappointing. Especially coming out of SWTOR which for all it’s faults at launch it at least delivered a far more compelling series of personal storylines that revolved around my character being at the center of everything. I hope that if they do return to personal story, like I very much hope they do, that they will return to our characters origins as well as elaborate a great deal on pretty much everything directly relevant to our characters personal lives so we don’t feel as disconnected from them as we currently really are.

Personally, I think that looking at some of the armors from GW1 would be a start. Kurzick and Luxon Heavy armors were quite nice. There are also some very nice medium and light designs among the GW1 armors.
- I also think that concept art from GW1 and 2 hold some yet-to-be-implemented armor sets.
- The ideas posted here which are basically concept art from other games will not fit the GW2 scene (though, I would think you mean it as “something like this, Anet”).

I think some GW1 skins should definitely be added into GW2, possibly even updated a little bit to match the fact this game is 250 years later so long as they keep the same basic styles.

And yeah, the concepts from other games and such is very much a “something like this” type of suggestion in direction for potential new sets. Not an exact copy, but something that fits into GW2. Some are more of a departure than others are though. I think that GW2 offers a much broader opportunity for more varied styles than GW1 did, though as each campaign had a relatively uniform design as you went on. In this game you see more variety even within the same race such as the differences between T1-3 cultural sets so I do believe they can push for a greater variety without disrupting anything.

I think “Personality Packs” would be great. I get pretty in-depth making my characters. I kinda make-up back-stories and everything. Everything from their look to their name is cohesive, in my mind at least. Sadly, I have no control over the most important thing of all, in a game that shows my character interacting with others with voice-work, PERSONALITY! I know there’s the built in dignity, ferocity, and charm aspect, but I would like to choice a personality from the character creation onset. I would want a personality pack to provide a full blown personality option for any kind of character. This would include both mannerisms in dialogue, stylized dialogue, and a fitting voice.
For example: I made my male Asura engineer to be kinda kooky looking and his name is Tinker Gizmo. I envision him as a engineering genius in a cooky, unstable, twitchy sort of way. So I would love an option like “Crazy Personality” where his eyes would kinda go buggy and twitchy when talking and he would go off-tangents in discussion and his voice would sound well….like a cooky asura’s would (versus regal like they sound now). I also want a true “Ferocious” personality where my character actually shows anger, yells, and almost pushes the boundaries of “good”. I made my female Sylvari elementalist named Ignacia Bloom. I envisioned her to be basically ‘consumed’ by fire and very hot tempered, but the dialogue prompts and scenes just don’t convey that in any way. While I don’t mind the voice for the female Sylvari in this particular case, I just want her Personality to be different.
Another aspect that can be changed depending on the personality you’ve given your character, outside of voice and talking style, could be the emotes. If a character has a “Crazy/Maniacal” personality then they could have a goofy/maniacal /laugh /threaten, /dance, etc.
I know this would be quite a bit of work with both voice-overs and animations, but it would be something I’d spend money on very quickly to make my character that much more ‘unique’ to me.

Edit* – oh and another thing I thought of that could be ‘improved’ through a personality pack could be new idle standing animations. The animations your character does after standing still for so long. There’s lots of stuff you can do there to ‘show off’ your character’s personality in a way that OTHER people see too!

Edit 2* – This would be a feature that would be available at character creation, so it would work for any future characters you make. There could also be a one-time-use pack, like a make-over kit, to apply to an existing character. The account wide one would be quite a bit more expensive of course.

I am in favour of having a function to have an option to give your character a more functional armour. Looking at e.g. the Phalanx armour skin I would love to have the same heavy plated design for my female Norn guardian. You could also have the same option for male characters to have some more skin showed. Like Honor of the Waves armour female armour has exposed arms something like that could also be possible for male armour.

Yeah this is something that I think should be an option, out of fairness. They tend to completely cover male characters, and sex-appeal works both ways!

Whoa, why wasn’t this made!?!?!?

anet pls

NO CAPES!

I saw an interview with Mr. Colin where they said capes were a work in progress a long time ago, don’t know if this is still the case but it probably is. I know I would looooooooooove capes, with all the back pieces they put so much effort into that capes would be an eventuality.

@Orpheal, those are really really good. I would die for that 1st light set.

I think we just need more variety overall. I always prefer “sex-appeal” over “practicality” in games so long as it’s not outrageous/beyond ridiculous, but what constitutes as outrageous and ridiculous to me may not be the same as someone else. I’m quite liberal, so I’m not really ever offended by sex-appeal in either direction. I prefer skirts to dresses just like I prefer corsets to coats, and heels to shoes. Armor can be very stylish without being too skimpy, but a lot of the time a little bit of skimp is required for style. Figure hugging, etc.

I’m not sure that 99% of the armor in this game even qualifies as Skimpy or having sex appeal, especially by Terra standards for example.

also, I bolded that part of my post on accident, just meant to have one word underlined and bold, but I was too lazy to fix it, and still am. To clarify anyways, there isn’t really much of a problem with any of the armor in this game. Heels and Skirts, and breastplates that don’t even cover the breasts…. woopdee friggen doo! Each armor class has plenty of fully body covering armor, and not actually that many revealing armors, even compared to GW1.

The only thing that gets me (And what was the originaly point of this thread) is that some of the female armor looks so much different than the male versions, its like two entirely different people had a different vision for it and designed the two sets differently….why? Why even bother to name it the same when it obviously looks nothing like its counterpart?

and also also, So long as the game stays the way it is now, and the characters actually look like they are wearing clothes, and it doesn’t devolve into what Terra looks like, I think the armor in guild wars 2 is fine.

Yeah, I think you see that in particular with gem-shop items more than with sets acquired through game content. I think they’ve started doing that because when they initially tried to make them similar to each other, they didn’t really cross over very well to the other gender so one gender’s version was “meh” or “ugly”, while the others was decent or attractive.

I agree they could come up with some more uniform designs that are similar enough to each other that you can tell they’re the same set, but I don’t really want a “mans” clothes on my female character.

I think part of the problem is that while there’s a lot of “covered” armor for women, a vast majority of it is hideous and are accompanied by not being complimentary of the female form/figure.

I like this one, it’s from a concept art somewhere. I think it’s skimpy without being ridiculous and could fit a mesmer/light armor class very well, as well as possibly medium.

Uh, I just went through all of that in my PS, I don’t need to go through that again. I hope they leave Zhaitan dead instead of making all that effort over the span of 80 levels mean nothing.

Also, I’m really tired of undead zombies. Time to move along and let Orr heal.
