Wintersday Jumping Puzzle Thread

We already know without a doubt that there will 100% be a jumping puzzle for Wintersday.

Here’s how we know: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/media/videos/ (look closely at the image for the latest video).

So, topic discussion is going to be as follows:

-Difficulty of the jumping puzzle.

-Achievements tied to the jumping puzzle.

-Title(s) for the jumping puzzle.

-Rewards for completion.

-Norn/Charr blocking jumping puzzle progression (just kidding ;P)

From the limited image, it looks like large columns surrounded by spiraling stones floating mid-air. There’s distinct ground below them, as seen by the trees (barely), so falling could cause death…though that mist/snow could do a magical ‘teleport’ back to the beginning.

Another thing to note is the snowmen. Not the large ones, but instead the tiny ones spread out on different columns. These could be objective blocks that trigger some AoE frost condition or something of that nature; then again they could throw snowballs at players to knock them off the columns as well.

Edit: Courtesy of Massively.com

The first activity within the snow globe is the Winter Wonderland jumping puzzle. The developers are predicting that players will not find the puzzle easy, but it is meant to be “less frustrating” than the maddening Mad King’s clock tower. Players will still be going through in batches together. Unlike the clock tower jumping puzzle, however, Winter Wonderland starts off with three different paths, which should help the problem of visibility significantly. The path is wider at some points, which means that players will be able to spread out a bit and worry less about tripping over each other or missing a jump because a gigantic Norn or a Charr with oversized pauldrons happens to be nearby. Like the Halloween puzzle, this one is effectively timed: Players will continually be taking frostbite damage, which will erode their health over time.

Edit#2:

The puzzle is a blast. I’ve completed it and encourage anyone looking for a challenge to try it out.

The reason it’s private is that they have to distribute the link/media to all MMO websites prior to posting it on their website. They did the same thing with the Lost Shores and Halloween videos. I don’t expect the video to go live until later this evening.

Speculations:

1) Minis in the forum of reindeer, snowman, and a Grawl grench…maybe.

2) Lion’s Arch still being the most important focus of the entire event, and the small visits to the other cities by Tixx being insignificant at best.

3) People complain that they missed the event, and so want the rewards to last 2 weeks after it so that they can obtain them (whether these being people suspended, banned, or “on vacation”)

4) A rare/exotic weapon and/or armor set that few obtain, yet everyone wants, and thus the “fairness” crowd will push their way into claiming that everyone should have it equally and that holiday items shouldn’t be rare.

5) Holiday Joy and Cheer will be ruined by complaints, hate, bad attitudes, and spoiled selfish behaviors.

Just bought the game,,all servers full ?

supposedly they’re full not because of the amount of people currently online, but the amount of accounts tied to the server.

Yes, and WoW’s 10 million customers are including trial and “free” accounts, as well as those that are past canceled and expired. Well, that one actually might be true…

But, no, the servers aren’t based on “accounts tied to them”, they are actually players playing the game at that time, of which there are a lot of them.

Have to buy bag slots for every toon?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

Thats… alot of money, why? O.O

….or a lot of gold depending on how you look at it. Each bag slot is $5 worth of gems, or 4g worth of gold. But, even if you fill it with the generic 8-slot bag, it’s still cheaper than crafting/buying a 18- or 20-slot bag when going from a 15-slot bag.

The question of “why?” can be answered by ways of A.Net making some money. They have no monthly subscriptions. So, to off-set, they have things that people can spend money on ‘if they so choose’. The bag slots aren’t a necessity because the basic 5 are plenty enough. But, if a player wants more, they can either get 3 new bag slots for the cost of a monthly subscription ($15) [and it’s permanent, mind you], or you can gather up and farm the gold to buy it with in-game currency without ever spending a dime.

Guild exploit

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

What stroked me the most is the request to represent the guild 100% of the time. To achieve that goal the guild leader and officers use different tactics. Some slaves would be bribed (25 ectoes per head), some – kicked from the guild. Neither guild leader nor officers could explain why they require 100% representation (generally speaking such request is against ArenaNet rules, as well as the guild owns rules, published on the website), but seeing how the guild is managed it is not a secret to anyone: the slaves must serve the masters, so masters would have a stable source for their wealth and legendary weapons.
The guilds as ArenaNet implemented them today can create opportunities for some players to take advantage of gaining value (loot, experience, karma, etc) over other players. That’s why guilds like I described should be called “exploits” and deleted, and people who use this exploit – banned from the game. I think ArenaNet needs to take a close look at this exploit and make some changes to remove such possibility.

1) It’s not against A.Net’s rules for guilds to put in a requirement of it’s members to 100% represent. Some guilds are open to multi-guilding, others are not. If you don’t like your guild’s choice, you have the FREE WILL OPTION OF LEAVING THE GUILD.

2) You cannot gain Karma for another person. Period. They have to earn their own Karma by doing their own game play. Loot is volunteered from one person to another, that’s it (again, a stage of FREE WILL). The only thing a guild can gain other guild member is Influence, which is used to get guild upgrades, banners, and such things. So, the only huge benefit that they can obtain is personally using buff banners to their own gain without other members using them. Which again… if you don’t like your guild’s choice, you have the FREE WILL OPTION OF LEAVING THE GUILD.

3) Nothing in your entire post(s) is considered an exploit. Sure, if guilds were using the labels of “slaves” and “masters”, that might be crossing a huge line which can get a renaming and/or a temp-ban. But, the rest of it is simply politics within the guild’s self-governed structure into how they operate. If you don’t like your guild’s choice, you have the FREE WILL OPTION OF LEAVING THE GUILD.

The only thing here that I can see as an issue, is that the Original Poster lacked the free will to leave the guild within 1 week of finding out it’s structure.

Do longtime players get free items too? (Wizard Hat; Merged)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

From the model style and type, they look to be the same item. Yes, I’m talking about the absolutely 100% free hat given to everyone who did the last event part of Halloween 2012 in GW2, or talked to the annoying costume guy that stood there for 2 weeks after that.

Even without that into consideration, us players who were there from LAUNCH have the Celebration Hat. This hat is a one-time item that shows that we were there at launch. No, these new people don’t get it, neither do people that started 1 month after launch, or going to start 6 months after launch.

And finally, let’s not forget the free Devil Horns from Halloween as well. Those that were in the store, no Gem cost or nothing. Again, something that only those that were already subscribed in the game and playing during the Halloween 2012 event could have obtained.

So, let’s consider the entitlement call of “loyal fans”:

-*- Fans from Launch: 3 free costume hats.

-*- New start-up players: 1 free costume hat.

So, I’m confused by all the fuss that’s saying that A.Net “has no loyalty to it’s fans” and “we deserve it!” claims? What gives?

Brand new. Coach me.

Found a website with $40 digital download keys and jumped on it, been waiting to play this game since before launch. As I type the game is downloading.

I played WoW for the past 3~ years(quit mid-cata) and I was there for SWToR’s decent launch, stuck around for about a month before it got very meh.

Whats the shakedown around here? Pro’s / con’s, etc

1) Forget everything you know about WoW.

2)There’s no safe “auto-attack mode” as a mob can down you in 1-hit (see Ogre smash). So, you must dodge, dodge, and ever keep moving while attacking.

3) The personal story is interesting, and characters memorable. Make your choices in it wisely though.

4) Run from every undead chicken you see. Just run!

5) Have fun.

Congrats Arena.Net!

Yes congrats for being the top video game choice in a news magazine. Its really too bad about the VGA and not winning a thing …… Maybe next time

And yet Time’s choices have more sensibility than that of the VGA’s.

There’s some flaws with the VGA choices as well as their current set up:

1) DLC has to either be changed to “content expansions” and include expansion packs to MMO’s just like the DLC for single player games, OR…there has to be a Game Expansions section added (I’m talking about head to head to head Storm Legion, Riders of Rohan, and Mists of Panderia).

2) Borderlands 2 has only 4-player online co-op, yet it won the “Best Multi-player Game”. Honestly, with it having ONLY a co-op, it shouldn’t even be in that category and instead replaced with yet another shooter…or another MMO, or something with real multi-player in it.

3) Best Downloadable Game is redundant to Best Indie Game, thus they should be merged.

4) Best Driving Game should be under Best Individual Sports game, another redundancy.

5) If they have a “Best Graphics” section, they need a “Best Artistic Design” section as well. Journey would have won that, or many other more “artistic” games than just graphically enhanced games.

Overall it seemed to be the same ol’, same ol’ from the VGA’s. More than anything it seems like a flashy chance to get some actor, nearly unrelated to gaming in any way possible, to stand up on stage and push bad jokes. This year, Samuel L. Jackson pushed not bad jokes, but instead crap puns and references to his past movies. Only really great thing of the show was the live musical orchestras that played video game music during interval parts.

Being on Time Magazine’s list as top #1 game of 2012 above Call of Duty, above Halo 4, above that joke Boringlands 2, and other games only says how great the game really is. But it doesn’t need an award to say that, as it’s known already.

P.S. I’m sure Time factors in things like value of content vs. costs (minus subscription). After all, it’s mentioned in the guy’s spot that Torchlight 2 is better than Diablo 3 because it’s same gaming style at 1/3rd the price. That’s beside how fun the game is, how the combat is so interesting, that going back to anything else is nearly impossible, and how explorer friendly the game’s world is.

One Time Events: "Life's Not Fair."

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

Before you post in this thread, I’d appreciate if you read this original topic and continue past just the title. Thank you.

Okay, one time events. This has split the community between those “with lives” outside the game and those that can participate. If the event is something like that of the opening cinematic from the Mad King, many really don’t care at all about it. But if it’s something with a tangible in-game reward, those that have other obligations are furied by it.

This brings up the “all-or-none mentality” that everyone should get something presented in-game on an even ground, or it shouldn’t be present at all. This isn’t exclusive to one-time events, as seen on The Clocktower in how many who just couldn’t complete the jumping puzzle tried to make every excuse or suggestion to A.Net so that it be changed for everyone.

That all-or-none mentality is not a selfless way for people to try to get others to participate, but really a ploy for themselves to get something that they are blocked from obtaining. All in all, this is a selfish attitude.

An experience from other MMO’s tells me that not everyone is going to be able to obtain everything in the game at all. It’s impossible, improbable, and it’s like chasing your tail (if you have one).

To pull away from the topic of rewards for just a bit, I’d like to instead point towards the actual reasoning of this game: To have Fun. Developer Colin Johnson says it best… http://www.arena.net/blog/is-it-fun-colin-johanson-on-how-arenanet-measures-success

More than just having fun, being in an ever changing living game world, it’s the experiences that drive great memories. Visiting Southsun Cove I can point out the rockslide we caused to stop the Ancient Karka, the steam vents we busted open, and finally his body ever encased in a volcanic rock grave on the edge of a lava pit. These aren’t just landmarks; they are things that us players caused and participated in.

Some likes those memories and joy them so very much; some just care for the ‘pot of gold’ at the end of the rainbow. Yet if either or both of these groups miss an event that has each entwined together, it’s considered to them to be unfair. And now we hit the topic title basic: Life—-is—-not—-fair. I’m sorry to say, but missing an in-game event is not the end of the world and shouldn’t have special exceptions or changes just because some are going to miss it. Whether you can’t buy Super Bowl/PAX tickets because they’re sold out, or you missed the great New Year’s Eve party because you had to work a double shift, no exceptions or changes are going to be made for accommodation.

I’d like to end this post with a Thank You directed towards A.Net for making a great game with enjoyable, memorable moments. Please, keep them coming.

I would like to point out something in this thread that some people may or may not factor in:

Some people left the event 1/2way in because of boredom, didn’t like it, or whatever reason. They “might” see themselves qualifying for a reward because of general participation, but they volunteered to leave mid-event and shouldn’t be rewarded. Impatience shouldn’t be rewarded, period.

Also, another thing to consider is that those that participated in events that started very late in the evening on overflow servers aren’t open for reward. Those events, as the developer’s said, technically weren’t supposed to be running. The ‘main event’ started at noon PST and ended nearly 4hrs later. So, to say that you were going to get the loot and the servers restarted, which was very late that evening, means that you shouldn’t have so it’s not really a lose and not deserving of reward.

P.S. Even if only 1/4th of the people that missed out due to LEGITIMATE REASONS (during the initial run of the event only) get rewarded here, it’s still a very good “+” for A.Net. Most every other company wouldn’t go out of it’s way to satisfy customers, but instead say “we’re sorry, won’t happen again” and that would be the end of it.

"You did not meet the requirements"

Hey,

I’ll cut this short. I’ve been to the event from start, got dc’d before the boss was down and wasted 3 hours for nothing; sorry, I did not have fun at all. Sent a ticket just after the event was finished and been answered (or delayed would I say) to this day.

Today I’ve been told that I didn’t meet their requirements to receive the rewards that reminds me of a joke. I’d really like to know what the requirements was.

Anyways, here’s both the answer I got and a proof-like screenshot I got while I was in the event.

their answer, http://i.imgur.com/b522Z.jpg

and the proof or sth,

Here’s what I can tell by looking at that photo you provided as your “proof”: You’re on an overflow very late in the evening and just about to hit that dreaded ‘Server Will Reset’. I know this by the quoted people in your chat log, even without a proper timer showing it on your map.

The events running late into the evening was a bug that wasn’t supposed to happen, nor properly run. The real event, the only proper one, started at 12pm PST (i.e. noon) and ended roughly 3 hrs later, depending on the server/overflow. That was the one-time event that was qualifying for rewards as well as the only one meant to happen, others later were bugs only.

Lost Shores event disconnect solution? [merged threads]

What about the people who were doing the event on overflows when the new build was released? I know a lot of people couldn’t make it / couldn’t finish the event because they had to leave early, but managed to join an overflow later in the night. Will those players be rewarded as well?

Probably not because those people shouldn’t have been doing the event at that time. It was a bug it was still running in overflows that late. The original event was one-time started at noon (12pm) PST and ended around 3hrs later. If people missed that one due to life obligations, while it does suck, it’s not on A.Net to award them. Their only current obligation is to those that got disconnected during the original event while at the end of it when trying to loot the chest or during sections of it.

I am dissatisfied with the bugs

The Question: Why are you here anymore?

The Answer: Because you feel like spreading hate and misinformation about this game.

And even if you’ve played more than 5hrs of the game, which is believable, you should not get a refund. You had paid for the game, understanding that it’s a live online game with ever changing aspects (bugs and all).

NEW reason for weapon swap/slot for Elem/Eng

in Suggestions

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

The argument over a miniscule two inventory slots is moot. Instead the major focus should be that gameplay is kind of weaker on an Elementalist compared to a Mesmer or a Necromancer. Each of those can switch from a close-range based weapon to a long ranged staff mid-combat, which is very useful. However, an Elementalist cannot, which is very disfunctioning when going from a dagger+dagger field op to staff wall siege.

Part #2 of the The Big ’Ol WvWvW Wishlist

54) Borderland lake siege boats (“seemingly expensive” with 4 cannons and makes use of the water)

55)Armory (Environmental Weapons) Upgrade/Barracks Upgrade ( the first of which provides defenders with EW’s that are only usable in the keep’s direct area, while the second spawns a small armory of NPC’s when the doors are breached to defend)

56)NPC’s move to defend Lord (all the stationary NPC’s at the objective move to the Lord when under attack, acting similar to a Dynamic Event with the Lord being the trigger of their movement)

57) Remove enemy tag when they die (so that there’s no excessive tags on screen?)

58) Change enemy tags to only server (nothing else, just server name)

59) Uniform gear (everyone wears the same thing based on profession)

60) Additional targeting icons/multiple targets (“target the ducky!”)

More to come as this post will be edited frequently.

I wish it wasn’t as easy to attack towers/keeps in this game. You can’t even get on the walls anymore since a few AOE classes totally lock the walls down and because of the obstructed bug you have to get right on the lip of wall (speaking as a warrior who uses a longbow if I am defending a tower) which means you’ll be pulled down any second and get insta burst down. This is leading to people not even bothering defending IMO.

1) Already under #36.

Equal badges/bags for support specs! My Warrior/Thief/Mesmer/Ele all get 3-5 times more badges than my MAIN character, a full heal support guardian. Specially if Ascended gear is going to be based on kill credit or drop in those bags.

1) Already under #45.

Badges need turned into currency, not held item. Also autoloot badges at least.

Portal needs cap and timer to space out enemy invaders coming through, personally though I don’t think anyone should be able to go through but the caster.

Some of you are saying lake is useless, maybe we should be able to build siege boats/platforms in water? Comes with four cannons and trebuchet, but super spendy or a capturable objective/event.

I think it would be a nice addition for a armory and barracks upgrade. Armory would provide player-held anti-siege/zerg weaponry only usable within keep. Barracks would simply spawn a small anti-zerg army once the enemies attack a keep.

Currently, npc defenders are very weak and… dumb. Your castle lord is being killed, get off the wall! All remaining defenders need to organize and run into interior walls once outer wall is breached. Also could they have a organized targeting system? And one last thing for defending npcs…. Stealth demolitionist. I think it would be cool if an upgrade could spawn these fellows that stealth and attempt to drop bombs on siege within borders.

Sentries need to show when enemies pass nearby on map, right now they are currently pretty useless besides showing, “hey, they are probably going to take this camp, which is going to fall as fast as that sentry.” Also be nice if you could purchase watchtower or some other sort of similar functioning upgrade.

Keeps/Towers fall to fast- That part is really all your fault if it falls. If they took longer, then that would be an incredibly boring siege of invaders blow up defenders with AoE for twice as long. I really just think walls need redesigned to benefit the defender and not invader. Murder holes and other sorts of stuff need added.

1) Already on there under BoH changes.
2) Already on there mesmer portal.
3) Added
4) Added
5) Added
6) Already up there under sentry upgrades.
7) Already up there under defender LoS fix.

I’ll add to this.

Something to promote people to stay defensive and give defenders of towers/keeps something to do while not under siege and otherwise sitting around waiting for an attack to happen. (It can get boring to keep ticking away siege weapons)

I’ll need more clarification on what you’re wanting here, please. “Something” could be anything, even Costume Brawl.

1. hide enemy tag when they are dead. All you can see when there are a bunch of enemies are red tags, but only the alive enemies should matter. Maybe an toggle-able option.
2. shorten the enemy tag name: show only the server
3. if clipping is due to too few info coming from the server, just give the same uniform to enemies (perhaps per class) just as in PvP. We don’t care what specific piece of armor the enemy uses.
4. allow players to assign different icons to targets, either for their group or for themselves (without the need to be in a group)

1) Added (though a problem with this one is that it might not be able to do a separation between enemy and ally, and the allies need to see that tag to see who they can rez)
2) Added (but it would also defeat the purpose of Achievement titles, which show, and the whole defender/attacker is more of a lore thing based on who’s homeland it is).
3) Added (this straight out would never happen, as you’re talking about removing customization in the game, which even sPvP has.)
4)Added

For me, all I really want to see happen is:
(I play GW2 for the WvW. No dungeons and no SPvP)

1) Fix the dam culling already
2) Badges automatically go into your inventory
3) Little more frequency on the badges (killed 50 this morning and got no badges, even spiked about 15 of them)
4) Better rewards – right now they suck because of the horrible badge RNG and the “oh look, bags of loot all around my dead body” factor

I could care less about the rest. WvW is the worst grind in the game when you are going for WvW gear via badges.

1-4) All these are already on the list.

-remove downed state (or remove the skills and make it 50% health on default)
-Guild ranking and player ranking among your servers please
-Need better rewards because if i wanted the gears, i can just do dungeons for the same stats. Invaders gears don’t necessarily have the best looking skin.
-There should be some new designs for new terrains around the map to make open field battles become guerilla warfare.
-There should be more then one person manning the seiges (except golems). These are some really heavy artilliries.. Can one person srsly one man a catapult, ballista, or treb irl?
-Eternal BG and BLs are fine but I feel like it’s time for new WvWvW maps (replace em or add em, it doesn’t matter).
-It’s always about capping. Why can’t there be another way to earn points? Such as a map exclusively for Deathmatches or something like that. I was always neutral about capping but it gets really repetitive eventually. (which is why i dont touch spvp)

7) I’m sorry, but I can’t rightfully add this one. It’s not a WvW situation at all. World vs World is defined and designed about map-capping domination of the world you’re a member of. A deathmatch type mechanic doesn’t fit into this system at all and would be only fitting in sPvP. Thank you for the other wishlist ideas though.

To clarify #33, i’m asking for BoH to no long be an object, and to become just another variable like karma. That way no worries about auto loot, and it becomes the defacto PvP credit. Similar to Wow Honor points, just a variable on your bar.

1) Added (but the reason I personally love it as a physical Account Bound item is that I can get a stockpile of them on my main and use them to buy gear for one of my many alt characters. If it was a currency like Karma, it would be character bound and non-transferable, making this an issue.).

1 more than one set of stats for wvw gear
2 options such as invite to party accessible by clicking on someone’s name in chat

Issues with the Guild System? Post here!

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Siphaed.9235

@Siphaed:
In GW1 a Guild leader is demoted automatically in favour of another officer if he is absent for a long time (more than 2 month). If there is no other officer the rank of guild leader can be pushed on a normal member through this mechanism.
I guess that such a solution would be sufficient for your current problem.
On the other hand, this is not the “suggestion” forum and your problem is not necessarily to be seen as a bug.

I don’t know. I very much see it as a bug that a Guild Leader is the only person in the entire game that can alter a guild leader status and not even the game’s GM’s can change it. That’s very sketchy and very buggy.

GUILDS: Voting System Needed

in Suggestions

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

It’s funny how they call you a troll for speaking logically against them. I will give a personal example of exactly the kind of situation something like a vote system would cause.

During my LOTRO days I was an officer in the best guild on our server. Our guild leader was an active MP in the area currently deployed in Iraq, so our leaders right hand was in charge for months.

Now before joining this guild had been solely PvP but had interests in the limited endgame available. So by chance one day the leaders of my previous guild decided to merge our guild into theirs to assist with those goals. We wanted PvP and they needed our endgame PvE experience.

Myself and my old guild leader spent months up to the early morning hours helping get a DKP system in place, figuring out strategies and needed gear, and of course the many trial and error runs. We were successful though, as a guild. We progressed quickly through the dungeons with myself as raid leader most nights and minus the who gets what loot drama it was a lot of fun.

Well now our leader comes back stateside and wants to come along the runs, who wouldn’t? So we now have a full active guild again with him home and he’s coming along learning all the new stuff. Low and behold though once he gets his gear he wants to take over leading the raids against the final two bosses and says we can continue leading what is essentially trash mob runs.

Needless to say we were pissed, and as officers we made it known we were pissed. Many times we tried to discuss a fair option or come to a compromise but he wouldn’t have any of it because he was the leader and it was his guild. So at this point I waited for him to screw up, I wanted a reason to make him look bad after stealing what my friends and I had worked so hard to achieve for “his” guild.

I caught him spying, essentially what server transfers created for WvW here, and I blew his cover for the other side letting them know who he was on that toon. As you can imagine I was demoted quickly and I stopped playing the game for over a year.

If there had been a voting system to usurp power I would have used it out of spite more then anything and I believe that to be the greatest cause for concern with this idea. I’m not the same person I was then, I’ve become much more laid back after seeing how pissed off I could get over someone half way across the country, who by the way ended up destroying his own guild anyway. Now I run my own guild here with happy members that just want to enjoy themselves and that’s all I ask of them, it’s just a game.

There should never be a system like this in a game, it’s a social aspect that everyone has the ability to remove themselves from and that’s the only real way to handle it.

Okay, you guys really need to stop on with the stories of a guild leader leaving because they said they would (your situation) or some hypothetical situation of Hurricane Sandy. This isn’t the case or reason I brought this suggestion at all. This is a guild leader with absolutely no contact in or out of the game for 2 straight months. NOTHING. Didn’t say they were leaving or anything at all.

Also, as you might have wanted to read my other posts, you’ll also see that this guild leader didn’t make anything at all. He was democratically voted in by us after the original guild leader stepped down due to real life issues; a guild leader who was honest with us and did the proper thing.

And yet again if you guys would read my other posts you’d notice that this guild was not just built by one guy person. This guild was built by several people dedicating their time and efforts to make a long lasting pre-launch guild that would continue on for a long time.

Finally, I’d like to point out that your determined argument of “always have the option of making a new guild” just shows a stance of a lack of care for a guild. We, as a guild, have a built a very nice niche community of like minded players who have made a name for themselves. That name is the banner in which we run under, where we place on keeps and castles alike. The Influence we have stockpiled, which is some 100k, is valued based on our guild’s accomplishments. To abandon all that is NOT an option as we care for these things, which you people seem to very easily dismiss.

I’d like to point out that a guild is NOT the guild leader’s to do with as he so fits. He may be lead because we’d made a somewhat unanimous decision for him to lead for one reason or another; but NOT own all rights and every inch of the guild WE THE MEMBERS built.

To give situational information: The guild members polled together 100 gold for a Commander Seal for said abandoning-leader. Each of us that got the collector’s edition, the completed our personal stories (on multiple characters), captured keeps, and so on dedicated OUR Influence to this guild. The guild symbol for our banner was vote-picked, the website designed by a different officer, the recruitment video by another, and yet another hosts our VOIP client. The current leader is only leader because the original leader had some real life issues and was courteous enough to inform us and voluntarily stand down.

But, I do see where some people would be upset if the voting system could be enacted whenever and for whatever reason to give possibility of mutiny. I do then like the idea that someone else had that this kind of voting system would only be enable if the current guild leader is MIA/hasn’t logged in for a month. This would ensure fairness that he could be given ample opportunity to contact the guild (from outside the game means or inside), as well as give fairness to the members to make a new leader if they so choose.

No.

I created a gaming community over 10 years ago on various games. We ended up mostly playing GW1 and WoW. We quit WoW shortly after Firelands (2nd major content update in Cataclysm expansion) and during that time they added a feature like this.

When we quit the game as a guild, there was an understanding that those who remained who do so just for the guild perks (I wasn’t going to kick everyone who had gotten max rep with the guild so they’d have to start over) and that the guild was never going to be playing it again.

What’d they do? They added a feature to usurp guild leadership in the event that the guild leader is inactive too long. So now I had to go back and kick everyone because I wasn’t going to let someone take over what I had built and use it for their own means. If a guild leader decides to quit and doesn’t tell anybody, I realize that sucks – but there are plenty of other guilds you can join with active leaders without stealing something from someone else.

If I was deployed to Iraq, for example, my guild would understand – but I’d come back with someone else leading my guild? And be lucky if I logged in still even a member of that guild? No thanks. If there is a tyrannical leader, you have the freedom to shove it in his face and leave. Let his guild die with his poor attitude.

What nerve and GULL do you have?! All I hear is “I, I, I, I, I” in your entire thing. Well guess what…a guild is NOT A GUILD OF ONE! Community built guilds created prior to the game’s launch take a lot of people to make. Our current officers did wonders from making recruitment Youtube videos to designing the website, and even set up of the VOIP server. Oh, and you think all that comes cheap? Every month guild members donated through our website prior to launch so that we’d have funds for such things.

Also, there was no “we” in this situation of him quitting . If you’d bother to read the original post, our guild leader ABANDONED US: no words, no contact, no nothing. We’ve tried reaching him by every means he’s provided both in-game and out, but to no advancement. So it’s nothing like your example of your entire guild deciding to split.

P.S. Guilds aren’t there to server the leader, as your tone so puts it. They’re there to bring together like-minded players to enjoy the game and build a bonding friendship throughout the time. Guild leaders are there to SERVE THE GUILD through leadership.

P.P.S. To kick everyone out of a guild and delete/disband it just because some people want to continue on where you give up…well that’s just as bad as a guild leader stealing everything from a bank and splitting/leaving….it’s just demonically selfish.

I would like to add more to that wish list.

33) Make BoH drops apply to a credit field much like karma.

34) Increase BoH drop rate so dedicated WvW players do not have to touch PvE content.

35) Give rewards to those in support roles/positions or boredom. Examples would be trebbing, escorts, support kill credit, spotting.

36) Give a spotting option that replaces the automated crossed swords (similar to BF spotting, then fades after x seconds.), basically players should be able to flag enemy units on the map and get credit. Would make scouting a big part of the meta.

1) Confused by this one, may you please clarify it if possible?
2) Added
3) Added (but on that note, there’s the issue with Yak escorting which is why they removed it early in the first few weeks of the game: people stop fighting and just escort Yaks the whole time. Also, I’m not so sure about rewarding supporting such as healing or what not because this game has made it viable for everyone to heal themselves and just keep damaging/fighting enemy. Trebbing part I can agree on because someone who’s been trebbing a wall for 30 minutes should get Gold rank when the keep is finally taken).
4) Already on there for removal of swords, but added the player marker idea.

Great ideas guys, keep ’em coming.

Serious oversight on Total Transformation Kit

That’s actually very funny, but yes – quite an oversight given that this is using the account name.xxxx (4 numbers) method for ID instead of character name itself.

Alternatively it’s intentional and they’re making a shop item for the name change bit.

Ya, I figured it may be intentional to suck some more money out of you but in all honestly, why sell a pack to change gender and then make you buy another pack to change your name. That is just Ludacris, pun intended. If thats truly their master plan, then just make the Total Transformation Kit a bit more to include the name. Though, I think they just screwed the pooch on that one, because it makes litterally no sense at all to have them seperate.

“To suck more money out of you”….did you really just say that? Here’s a fitting clue. Total Character Makeover is less than $5 total, or FREE if you use Gold-to-Gem conversion. In WoW, a single Appearance Change costs $15 and a name change is $10 without an option otherwise.

So,…it’s actually cheap for this game…or completely nothing if you farm the gold (2-3 days worth of “light” farming).

So I don’t see this as an oversight as the OP thinks it is, just that they have yet to include the character name-change options.

There needs to be some in-game way of guild members to demote/vote out their Guild Leader if he becomes inactive or tyrannical. Otherwise a guild rebuild would lose name, influence, reputation, and so much more.

Greetings X,

I’m very sorry to hear about the issue you’ve been having with your guild. I’m afraid we simply do not have a tool that will allow us to edit guild ranks and memberships just yet. We’d be unable to remove the current leader right now.

The only recommendation I could make right now is to post feedback for the developers to see directly if you feel a feature to modify guilds should be implemented in the game for guilds to self-govern. The best way to have your feedback or suggestions for Guild Wars 2 reach someone in development is to post it in a public forum like the Official Forums (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions), Twitter (#!/GuildWars2), Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/GuildWars2), or on a Fan Site. The more people who view and comment on it, the more likely developers will take notice.

If you have any other issues or questions, please let us know.

Okay, I’d really LOVE your suggestion of getting him to leave the guild if we could just get a hold of the guy. As mentioned in the ticket, he hasn’t been seen or heard of in 2 months and has not responded to any contact method we’ve tried. So, is there not a way for you guys on your end to kick him from the guild, essentially it would do the same as you said in that his rank would change. If he ever returned, we’d certainly get him back in…but it’s like right now we’re getting shafted by his total lack
of care and absence in the guild. It’s not changing the ranks or anything, you’re just kicking him out of the guild, something I’m sure you have a tool for. Please, consider it. thank you.

Hi there X;

We are very sorry to hear you and your guild ran into this issue, with your guild master. Right now though we don’t actually have the tools that would allow for us to alter your guild’s roster on our end of things. We would help you out in a minute if we could, but right now the only way to get this resolved would be to ask that player to leave the guild, then re-invite him so that he would be in the proper rank. Other than though there would not be a way to affect a character who has been given the rank of leader. You could do as you mentioned and form a new guild and have everyone transfer to that one, but we would not be able to transfer the name for you right now. Again I am very sorry that we can’t affect more to get this resolved for you right now. I would certainly be more than happy to help if I could, but we simply haven’t been provided with the ability to make any changes like this yet.

Hello,

I’m from X on X server. We formed our guild long ago prior to the game’s launch (originally was on X, but transferred our guild over a month in). As of around 2 months ago was the last time our Guild Leader logged into the game (or our guild website). We’ve tried every means into contacting him, which of no avail, he’s not responded to PM’s, emails, nothing. We’re hoping that nothing serious has happened, but as the same time we think that he’s just abandoned the game and our guild.

Our guild leader’s name is/was X. The current issue is that by the game’s set up in ranks, there’s no way for us as a guild to move him from being the guild leader and get one of our other Officers ranked up to leader as we want to. So is the dilemma, because we cannot do many things we want to do without a solid leader position set up.

So comes to my request from the GM’s of the game:
1) Would it be possible for the GM’s to de-rank our current guild leader X and replace him with a few of our current officers (multiples was our decision to prevent something like this happening again).

2) If #1 isn’t possible, would it be possible to just change our Officer’s rank to allow them to change the rank of those above so that we can manually set X down and others up? Basically it’s a request to change permissions of our Officer rank within the guild since it’s buggy that we cannot do it that way.

3) If neither #1 or #2 is possible and the game’s systems don’t support this (for who knows WHY it wouldn’t considering how well set Guild systems are and all this is would be a bug fix), then would it be possible that IF we had to reform our guild within the game through solid leadership, that we can get the X name right back again so that we don’t loss that?

Thank you for your time.

Tipping players for help

It’s very generous for players to tip others for helping out, but I generally decline and/or return tips/gifts for such things. It’s in my best interest, and the community’s, that those around me in-game feel helped and enjoy the game and people around them. If they didn’t,…if the community was a bunch of rude “I won’t says” that tells everyone who asks a game mechanic question with reply ‘Alt+F4’, it would cause people to leave the game.

If they left the game, we not only lose population, but also they tell everyone who asks about the game that the community is full of a bunch of rude trolls and not worth their time.

Since Winter’s day Thread is not up yet, which is weird on not having this open and available so we can freely discussing but this is what’s bugging me.

Quote: Tixx arrives in Lion’s Arch in his massive airship toy workshop.

Like, I don’t even know how to accept this really, Guild Wars Style. I am just lost and confused why it exist and how does it work with the lore?

I understand its an Asura and all but really… a Golem airship? Would had accepted giant floating cube or a regular airship but a golem?

Just being a nerd but… magic can only go so far and so does fuel. On top of that, wouldn’t having something that big would give leeway to the dragons into shooting it down, since the energy required to keep that thing a float and running would match that of a small nuclear bomb.

Also… why is an Asuran making Toys? Usually Asuras are all witty and snotty about being smart and a superior race, yet its making toys? Which lore wise, would be toys suited for a complex Asura child to play with. No other race would understand the toys Tixx would make.

/Opens Presents /receive “Mathematical entries of dimensional portions calculator”.

A human would had been better for the situation, if anything go Norn if that desperate. Really getting tired of Asura this and Asura that content updates. The race isn’t all that interesting.

Edit: Not sure why link went bad, posted the main page, from GW2 Twitter.

I’d say that your racism against the Asura stems from an inferiority complex.

P.S. Only the Asura were smart enough to put the research into uncovering the history of the Mad King, or the mystery of the Karka.

P.P.S. Both events had humans, Quaggan, Hylick, and other races participating as well. It’s just Asura are the initial “brains” behind the operations.

Most of my suggestions are based on the problem I have with towers/keeps being way too easy to take. There should be a lot more strategy involved (supply starvation, cutting off defenders, requiring more siege weapons than just rams + superior number of players, hitting the fortification from multiple sides simultaneously, etc).

  1. Limit AoE damage on battlements to siege weapons only giving the defenders at least some advantage (currently attackers have the advantage, which is backwards).
  2. Double boiling oil and cannon health.
  3. Adjust the LOS check so players don’t have to jump up on the ledge of a keep wall to hit attackers on the ground.
  4. Allow players to drop off the supply they are carrying at a tower/keep (to speed up upgrades and resupply).
  5. Allow Yaks to keep traveling if the supply depot at their destination is full. This should include moving through keeps to the other side. It is so frustrating when a tower near a supply depot needs Yaks, but they turn toward a keep (which is full of supply) and then go poof when they get there.
  6. Agreed on removing the downed state in WvW. It gives an unnecessary advantage to larger groups of players. Having superior numbers is already an advantage in itself, don’t make it that much harder by having to kill them 2 and 3 times over just to score a victory.
  7. Allow players to repair siege weapons when not in combat.
  8. Remove the expiration time on siege weapons. If need be implement a cap on number built within a structure to keep from having it become too fortified.
  9. Make the projectile arc for catapults adjustable so they can be fired over walls (both into and out of the courtyard).
  10. Remove road sentries. They serve no purpose.
  11. Buff Yak escorts so they actually stop solo players from killing the Yaks.

Okay, here’s what I’ve got….

1) Added ( though this kind of immunity to specific damage types is nearly impossible to program because abilities like Fireball is considered AOE due to splash and would make defending also way too balanced on their side. It’s taking the scale and instead of evening it out you dump everything from one side and the other side just sinks.)
2) Added
3) Added
4) Added (though from a single perspective that a whole server could go from supply camp to supply camp in circles just draining them, to then teleport back to their spawn and rush to their Keep to get it up would be crazy. It just encourages flipping for the sake of getting supply and nobody would care about Yaks or their supply lines on that style).
5) Added
6) Already on there (though I entirely disagree with this stance and the downstate is part of this game’s combat mechanics and it won’t go away any time soon)
7) Added (don’t see this happening as damaged siege gives progression to one side or another, also it prevents build up of say 5 siege golems that keep going because after a Keep take they teleport to spawn, repair, and go to the next objective 100%. balance would be thrown off)
8) Added ( but again, like above, there’s a balance thing. Not only that, but each siege item is an asset on the server that has to be rendered in. If 50,000 pieces of siege stayed without decay or destruction, it would crash the server.)
9) Added (but, to cause a more heightened fire would cause a shorter fall. Catapults and like siege are based on set physics, you have to take from one to give to the other.)
10) Added (I disagree with this one. Every time a sentry dies, moves, or flips….well, he served his purpose by telling us exactly where the enemy is , with or without swords. Also, these are soloable by single players, which is why A.Net added them in the first place as they had said so.)
11) Added (those escorts get the same +2 level buff that camp guards get when doing the 2nd tier of upgrades. It’s a matter of people actually investing in those upgrades. However, I think Yaks are such easy targets because nobody guards supply lines, which is not a game issue but a server communication issue).

Baby steps. I think the problem is that devs are prioritizing fixes before making changes that will also require fixing. So my wish list is small compared to the OP.

1) give us better tools to coordinate large amounts of gamers. For instance why arent there options for simple things (simple being relative to other games) like formation of raids. In my opinion this would give a positive experience in commander efforts to coordinate.

2) take out useless space in BLs. Cause seriously who cares about the huge body of water in the middle of the map? Take it out or give it a purpose please.

3) mobs in wvw are dumb i agree. At the very least dont allow ppl to rally off of a pve kill.

4) i couldnt help myself… Take out the whole downed aspect.

Baby steps..

1) Already there under Commander tools
2) Added to the list
3) Under “less PvE”
4) Added to the list

Welcome to the Big ‘Ol WvWvW Wishlist. A stacking list of items that WvW players want for their gameplay enjoyment. Note that some of these may clash with each other, and that they are polar request that will split between those that don’t want and those that do. However, the list will continue…

1) Removal of the AoE cap

2) Some sort of limitation to Mesmer portals (working for party members only?)

3) Golems ability to attack keep walls.

4) Nerf X Class (this applies to all…so just fill the X with the class you hate the most).

6) No more [orange] sword flags

7) Buff to supply camp guards (+2 levels isn’t a worth upgrade, but making one or two of the guards champions would be much more rewarding and detrimental to rush tactics).

8) Faster Yaks

9) Slower Yaks (really? okay…)

10) A reward chest at Keep/Garrison/Stonemist lord kills.

12) Direction + altitude based ballista (instead of target based)

13) Per map based bonuses for objectives owned (monetary/gold find only)

14) Another jumping puzzle like EB’s.

15) Spike trap upgrades for objective doors.

16) Fix/patch against stealth-trolling cap prevention.

18) More item skins from the BoH vendors.

19) Better power upgrade to superior/omega siege

20) Squad UI for commanders (see everyone in the squad on the map, kick people from squad, invite people….like a party)

21) Magic find/gold find boons for squad members and commanders

22) Guild Labels at objectives (though a guild’s banner flies above it, if the NPC’s had some mechanic that said “this keep is owned by ‘X’ guild” so that it’s also a recruiting tool as well).

23) Mobile squad spawn units (A mini Asuran Matter Reposition Relay [A.M.R.R.] able to deploy and destructible, something a commander can set somewhere on the map for 30 minutes, costs 1-5 gold, and allows for everyone in that squad to spawn at that point *assuming not under attack)

24) Upgrades for road sentries

25) Guild Lords (Keeps/Garrisons/Stonemist where a guild can claim would have said guild the ability to spend Influence to upgrade the Lord into a Guild Lord Champion, making them have more HP, hit harder, and overall a harder to take objective).

26) More PvE

27) Less PvE

28) No PvP in the Stonemist jumping puzzle

29) More PvP in the Stonemist jumping puzzle (“Allow me to kill allies with those traps”—)

30) Buff X Class (this applies to all…so just fill the X with the class you play)

31) Remove lake area in Borderlands (“this area is useless”….though that would make quite a few sad Quaggans)

32) Remove downstate (riiiiiiight….)

33) Make defenders on battlements immune to AoE (due to attackers having a strong advantage….though this is conceptually impossible).

34) Double Oil and Cannon health

36) Line-of-Sight fix for battlement edges (players have to stand on the literal edge of a wall to get a clean shot at the enemies below, even with seeing them clearly prior to taking that suicidal position)

37) Players supply objectives. (giving players the ability to drop off the supply they carry at a keep/tower so as to supply it like a yak currently does)

38) Extended, longer Yak paths (basically allow a Yak to go full circle instead of between two tiny nearby points so as to supply multiple locations)

39) Allow for repair of siege out of combat.

40) Everlasting-siege (until the siege is physically destroyed, it wouldn’t have a timer)

41) Extend the curvature of the siege (catapults on the ground are able to fling over a wall).

42) Remove road sentries

43) Yak escorts need more power (make the two guards have more damage or more CC style knockdowns, knockbacks, and stuns to defend the Yak better)

44) Increase drop rate for Badge of Honor (make it more rewarding considering that neither Karma nor XP gives currency towards WvW gear as BoH’s do).

45) Increased Support Rewards (for trebuchets, Yak escorting, healing/booning allies)

46) Player spotting options. (i.e. if you see a player and press “r”, it would beckon that player to allies for 5sec, or continuous if in combat).

47) Individual and Guild WvWvW Ranks

48) Harder to traverse terrain (something like forest, maze-like canyons, and such making for guerrilla warfare)

49) Change Treb manning requirements to 2 or more people ( because loading and firing is more than a one man job).

50) New WvW maps.

51) Make BoH a system currency instead of physical item (to help reduce bag clutter with stacking limits of 250, and also to not lose out on bags lost)

52) Additional stat-blend sets for WvWvW (adding more choice for players to buy with their BoH besides Power/Toughness/Vit gear).

53) Bug Fix: Right-Click chat box invite (the only option showing now is “report” when trying to right-click someone’s name in chat)

A) Price is not “too high”. The item is up there in price related to the relative uniqueness as well as rareness of the pieces.

B) Not everyone in the game should have their cultural T3. If you can’t afford it, either drop it completely or set a long-term goal on it.

C) I do yet agree they might be better off being exotic, though it would still be an issue for someone who doesn’t get the right stat mix that they wanted.

“We don’t make grindy games” that’s the part of the manifesto they broke.

Yep. FOTM violates the spirit of the manifesto as a whole and that specific bit of it. I don’t see how anyone can even try to argue otherwise.

Now maybe the manifesto is wrong. Maybe people want a gear treadmill. But that is very clearly not what the game was marketed as and originally supposed to be.

This. +1 sir.

Also, honestly, can anyone here say they repeat a dungeon over and over for any reason other that they need the loots?

Don’t get me wrong a couple times with friends and the “lulz” is cool. But anyone really keep hitting it up just for the “fun”?

And if the answer to that question is yes, if you couldn’t run it with your friends, would you still consider it fun?

My answer is for sure a definite “YES!”

The dungeon design is great fun, unique, and challenging. I’ve ran level 3 around 7 times with guildies and friends alike. I’m up to level 7 now, but I keep going back to the lower ones for others in my guild because progressive gear is …well, it’s not required and doesn’t matter.

If I couldn’t run it with guildies or friends…how did that question even get in there? You honestly think they’d design an aspect of an MMORPG to exclude guildies/friends? That’s what would make people not play the game at all, if they couldn’t socialize.

“Our games aren’t about preparing to have fun, or about grinding for a future fun reward. Our games are designed to be fun from moment to moment.”

This. In the Manifesto they are speaking to people who understand vertical progression (treadmills) and horizontal progression. With vertical progression the gear grind is preparing to have fun while grinding for a future fun reward. But, I agree that you would have to understand what they are talking about to get “no vertical progression” out of the Manifesto. Their problem now is that a lot of us understood what they were saying, just as they understood what the said at the time, and are disappointed that they could so cavalierly jettison the design philosophy and promises they made.

Your interpreting it your own way in the same sense that an NRA member would say that “right to bear arms” means that everyone can own a bazooka.

That whole quoted statement was from a section about the game’s combat called Rethinking combat. The point of it was to explain that the combat was to be fun, explaining how player can max out their abilities early, get all weapon unlocks from the get go, and have fun in the game from level 1 instead of waiting for the fun to start at level 80.

Guess what? A level 37 player can go into the Fractals of the Mist with a bunch of level 80 guildies and have FUN! Ya, I know…crazy, right? I mean, to have a level 37 go in there and you’re all having fun killing cultists and freeing a giant Colossus. It’s unheard of!

…but it’s not just the same game repeated again. We took this opportunity to question everything,

Sure during the beginning of the BETA’s (something that is a test for adjustment and ever changing content), Exotic gear was the highest. But, as with most MMORPGs, this game will change in a live environment.

Legendaries were mentioned to always have the highest tiered stats. I understood this to be that say they launched an expansion with new gear tiers and new levels, Legendaries would change to match that. Even if they didn’t, by being a look and having Transmutation Stones, a player can only expect to use those and apply the highest stats to a Legendary weapon (that’s my own expectation of logic here).

Because ArenaNet (sort of) held a hard line against all VP with GW1 — no VP ever, year after year — and it wasn’t that fun. It was stagnant.
- Mike O’Brien, November 2012

I am very interested in how you can combine horizontal and vertical progression (progressing in two different directions?) for the same content… I believe it can not be done, and instead you can only create a very slow, very bloated vertical progression.

I’m out. I haven’t requested refunds, and so I will keep an eye on GW2 over the years just to see what happens. I can’t see me ever coming back to “catch up” with the treadmill.

Mister Mike O’Brien does not speak for me. I never felt GW1 was stagnant or not fun due to no vertical progression. On the contrary it was liberating to be able to do anything without the pressure of wondering if my gear was good enough.

I doubt I’m the only one that feels that way.

/agree 100%

And if both of you feel that GW1 is fun and GW2 is not fun…well they haven’t shut down GW1, so I suggest you get right back to it, right? This is GW2, not GW1. It’s an MMORPG, not a CORPG that GW1 was. This game is different and it’s own beast. Enjoy it for what it is, don’t try to change it into something it’s not.

Several times over the past few week since Ascended gear was announced, people claimed that Arena.Net ‘violated them’ and broke the Manifesto. They’re claiming lies, claiming that the Manifesto should be “amended”, and have the gull to request refund for a $60 game they’ve played for nearly 3 months now (if you /age and have played more than 100hrs, you’ve gotten your money’s worth for sure and deserve no such refund).

So, what’s this stone tablet document that people seem to bow to? What is the Manifesto? Well, there’s two of them:

Video Manifesto:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKtGxVj3msM

Blog Manifesto:
http://www.arena.net/blog/guild-wars-2-design-manifesto

Out of both of those Manifestos, I find that neither of them once state “No vertical gear progression” as people claim. They both promise a fun game (check), different style action-based combat (check), and a more unique approach on questing outside the norm (check).

So, I’d like to see a stop of the lies misinformation on this forum: ones claiming that the Manifesto told them absolutely no vertical gear progression. Those lies misconceptions are nothing but manifestations of people trying to push their own expectations and interpretations of the game upon others. I’m sorry that Guild Wars 1 never had gear progression and this one does, but right from the start the developers said they were making a true blue MMORPG and not just another Guild Wars stamped with the number 2.

Why is there an AoE limit of 5 targets?

in WvW

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

Sure, when AoEs stop doing more damage than single target abilities, I’m game for that.

Many of those “AoE’s doing more damage than single target abilities” are channels that require the caster to stand there for the full cast, out in the naked reach of the enemy, to get it off. Meteor Shower takes 3.25sec of channeling cast….a Mesmer with Focus #4 can pull the Ele off to both interrupt and get them into the group to kill (so can a Thief with Scorpion Wire, and an Engineer with Magnetic Pull off their Tool Kit utility). Not only is that one thing, but it’s also random hit inside the radius of the effect, where the ‘ball drops’ is where it damages…which is more of an RNG system with the spell than anything.

Even without consideration of that one spell, other AoE’s have issues of a delay result or are channeled as well. Dragons Tooth hovers there for a while and it’s an obvious “take a step right to avoid”, same goes for dropping the ice shard from the sky. A Ranger’s longbow ability is the same issue as Meteor Shower.

Because new school players are too big of kittens to accept proper resource management as part of play style. We don’t wanna wait, or conserve. We want is all now.

So instead of a power or mana limit to curb your AOE form being a permenently unstoppable force you have cooldowns and target caps. Note I’m not talking a Wowesque theoretical mana limit I’m talking a DAOCesque hardcore power limit.

But the problem with this games is they were mechanics to drag out the fight: artificial limitations against the player. What I mean is would you rather be in a fight and keep fighting until the enemy is dead (or you are), or would you rather cast 2-5 spells then head to the far back behind the front line and sit and drink water/eat food for 30sec-1min? To have to do 5 minutes -1hr of prep before actually doing something in the game that’s enjoyable is not fun, it’s work. This is a game and not work.

Defending is stupid atm. Attackers have more of an advantage than defenders… Attackers can actually hit people!

Well, maybe that’s it. It’s that attacking trumps defending and it’s becoming nothing more than a circle-flip. Raids, zergs, or whatever you want to call massive blobs of players keep going in circles capping points and going to the next and so on and so forth.

Nobody defends much unless the point is fully upgraded, because that seems to be an obstacle that slows down the enemy (basically added hit points to doors and walls). Mortar upgrades are junk on towers as it’s a single mortar shot that never has the right position to hit the door (i.e. rams). Oil hasn’t been useful since week 1 because everyone and their grandmothers know to range attack an oil before dropping a ram or pulling up a Golem to the door (only every once in a great while will newbies get slammed by forgetting this golden rule).

There are a few suggestions that might make this a bit better for defending, as well as counter zerg-balls:

1) As said in the OP, the cap on AOE is a BAD THING! That should be removed. I know this counters it by saying that a group of 30 will most likely have more AOE than a group of 5….but, that group of 5 will still be able make the ball spread out, get them to move about,….it’ll change tactics on the field.

2) Wall outcroppings. Think of a half-circle section about 2x the width of your average Norn hanging out 2ft off the edge of a tower or keep wall (every 6-12ft spaced). Yes they’re just as vulnerable to enemy attack as current walls are, but they have the added benefit of giving defenders a position to attack from.

3) More keep and tower arrow slits. A select few keeps and towers have arrow slits near their gates. These act as line-of-sight gateways for people to do attacks from. This again is something that is lacking in quite a few areas of WvWvW.

4) Raised siege towers + ladders. Somewhat of a stretch here, but think of a tower that is single mounted siege, 4-10ft higher than a wall, reachable by a ladder, and pulled back into the courtyard of a keep/tower. One to put either a single ballista or a catapult that would reach part of the outside sectors of the fortress it resides in (now, I say part because pressed against a wall and a small cascade out beyond it will still be out of LoS).

Something needs to change to make defending more appealing and have people actually do it. What this game is turning into is a ring-around-the-rosy that Warhammer Online was all about (flipping and flipping more behind the enemy).

..and I’m not the only one thinking this. It’s become a complete zerg fest and is nowhere near what it was made out to be.

Scenario #1:

Group A of 5 players attacks a tower with a single ram. Group B with 25 players sees orange swords at tower and swiftly gets there. Group B wipes Group A with ease, where as Group A barely did 10% damage to the door.

Scenario #2:

Group C of 30 players quickly builds 3 catapults on the side of a tower aiming to the wall and start to attack. Group E of 5 players is trying to defend said tower and while heading there the tower already flips. Group C heads to supply camp before Group E even makes it to tower. If Group E attacks tower, see Scenario #1.

Those are common scenarios, but without the semi complexities of setting up a single Mesmer who does a portal drop 50yrd out, sets up group/self stealth, and then rushes into the middle of a group of siege defenders and pops the exit portal. All of a sudden you go from defending it with a few arrow carts and Ballistic (an easy tactic to stall the enemy, though not slaughter them), to a pointless defense that gets wiped in 30sec or less.

Anti-zerg mechanics such as AOE is not really AOE at all…because of a lock on 5 players. You can’t make people scatter when you hit only 5 of them out of the 30 there; it just doesn’t happen. Siege isn’t scary at all unless you have a bunch of it…but you have no time to set it up before the zerg rolls over the place.

Things need changes. Zergs need to …die.

Opinion: Orr and Southsun Cove are player unfriendly

I really wish they had made Ruins of Orr and Southsun Cove more player friendly.

i hate these two maps, why couldnt they create these maps more Solo player friendly ?

In Orr players are perma stressed by perma attacking mobs and in Southsun cove the Mobs hit so hard that a normal equiped player dies in 2-3 hits….

Orr needs a revamp, less mobs more exploration without permanent fleeing from mob crowds. Its no fun there..

not more to say … that was all….

To do that is to change the lore of Orr…..that’s not happening. Orr was a great nation that sunk to the bottom of the sea, killing all it’s inhabitants during the Charr invasion.
