OP:
I’m sorry you’re having such a hard time completing this content, but that does not define it as “a flop”. That’s the same mentality that has labeled the jumping puzzle, the bell choir, and the snowball mayhem ‘a flop’; it’s just a few people have trouble one way or another in completing it.
All this content added for the holiday has been very successful. And roughly 90% of it is purely ‘fluff’ for holiday weapon skins, mini pets, transformation tonics, and musical bells. Only has the chest Tixx rewards currently in Lion’s Arch is character-effecting by providing expanded bag slots (15 slot bag), yet the back piece he has is still cosmetic in nature.
To direct on specifically the Toypocalypse, it’s very enjoyable whether or not it’s rewarding. Rewards do not fuel gaming, fun does (well, it used to but with this current generation is all about “phat lootz”). Toypocalypse plays much like a tower defense game with many twists and turns and is a good break from day-to-day dungeon crawling, WvW, or sPvP.
So, again, I’m sorry you’re not having fun, but that doesn’t mean that other people aren’t having fun nor does it mean that the event is a flop.
My best method is to build 3 “fortresses” that contain 3x catapults, 2x ballista, 3x snowmen, and 3-5 walls. They’re at the north, south, and west sides. They destroy all mobs rather quickly, can target each other’s sections if they get over run, and distract mobs away from the yaks.
I was informed that the Musical Mechanical Orchestra was supposed to be playing Winsterday music. However, when next to the thing I find that it’s not playing music of any time at all. I’ve relogged and changed my setting to no change. This saddens me.
Is it possible that this can be looked at and fixed soon for the Wintersday enjoyment?
Anyone else experiencing this?
Like Snowball Mayhem and the Bell Choior, the Toypocalypse is an activity. They are using the same systems, and these systems do not permit joining by party. Unfortunately due to technical limitations and time constraints before the holidays, we cannot change it. We understand that this is not ideal for people who wish to play in the same party and who are finding it difficult in random groups. We will be adjusting the “Toypocalypse Cancelled” achievement so that you will need to keep only one gift dolyak alive. We do not have an ETA on when this change will be live. Thank you for your feedback. We have been listening, and we will take your comments on board for future game updates.
Why is this needed? In a pug on my 2nd try I successfully kept all 5 yaks alive. Sure, it takes a few times for people to actually understand what’s going on,….but don’t change it after people can’t get it on their first try in the event’s first day live. Honestly, that’s just giving in to complaints. I know of 3 other guildmates that successfully got it today as well, again all pugged up.
The behavior is correct in that your character was killed while in combat but the team talked it over and we’re not happy with the golem going away as a result. We’ll get a change into an upcoming build so that if you’re in a golem when you DC the golem itself won’t be destroyed but will instead be left behind as though you had exited it.
It would make more sense to have the penalty kick in under the downed state as that would cover both DC’s and legit kills.
No, it wouldn’t. There’s been people that ran into my kill-squad of 5, and they turn, get hit 3-4x, go to 10% HP and DC right there. So, people are DCing prior to even getting in downstate just to avoid a death. I’m glad the system kills them no matter when they disconnect…though I think that destroying a golem should be done as well just on principal.
The event is less about getting “powerful items” and more about getting “fun items”. For example, everything you do of the three mini-games (jumping puzzle, bell choir, and snowball mayhem) gives you items that you can exchange quantities of for unique weapon skins, snowballs, and consumable bells.
Even doing the instance of Tixx’s airship give you rewards of piece you can either make non-combat mini pets out of or non-combat endless tonics.
So, the point of participation: Have fun and be jolly.
“Tis the season.”
They’re not solo content. I’m sorry, but you should bring a friend or two to fight them, as the devs have commented a few times. This is very much true when you’re in the lower level areas without higher tiered gear, all skills unlocked, and all trait points (stat perks) unlocked.
Pardon the caps but, ITS SO CUTE
Definately way better than the quaggan.. Arena Net needs to make a real one like the charr plush… must have
I too agree that it’s cuter than a Quaggan, and I was so sad that we had to kill them and their nests at the control room. :’(
However, a plush wouldn’t be distinctive of the game itself because a Griffin is common mythos across many other games and lore of many nations. A plush of a Quaggan is more defining of Guild Wars 2 because the race/species is unique to it (just as the Charr are).
Here’s my tips (and video to help visually).
1) RELAX! The game is about fun, and if you’re a nervous wreck you’re not going to have fun.
2) Ctrl+Shift H, hide your GUI. You can relax by hiding your UI so that you see neither the timer or your HP. Those two artificial weaknesses cause huge “OMG!” moments and stress people to no end. So, by hiding them it’s just you and the puzzle.
3) Take your time at the candy-cane sticks. I’ve seen so many people (and have done it myself) over-jump this section. It’s not the normal distance of the snowflakes, and you cannot just “skip” one of them either.
4) Stay right at the Q-Bert presents. The right side is the near last section to ‘pop’ and is the safest path to go up. You’ll all end up starting in the middle from the peppermint to the blue gifts, so sticking right is just a good idea (middle is suicidal!).
5) Hear the snowman, see the snowman. If you don’t have audio on this puzzle, this part is going to mess you up. The snowman gives an audio whistle right before he starts blowing. If you miss this, you’ll get blown right off, so time it right.
6) Move just after a snowball, but no later. If you don’t time the snowballs ‘just right’, you’ll find yourself under one. Also, avoid the red circles that follow them, because those give you a freezing slow condition that will just mess you up further.
Well, that’s my tips. Good luck, have fun….and, you will be all right.
“Oh my! I’m not brainstorming. I’m having a brain hurricane!”
I like that one, it’s quaint. Also, it’s not as repetitive as the one in Lion’s Arch. Every time you pass him he’ll say “Your attention please.”, this is especially noticeable if you go from the bank to the auction house over and over again.
Are you sure it’s a ventari one? The model icon is the same, but the item is different. Scroll over the item and make sure it’s not the case, as I almost thought this but clearly got the soldier one (because I’ve used it since then).
Alright, “Citizens!”, we have yet another very vocal shouter in Lion’s Arch for an event. Last time it was that gate keeper near the Fractals, but A.Net shut him up finally. This time we have Festive Lionguard shouting to everyone to give him attention.
So, has this caught your attention, Citizens? Please inform us.
Love this,…HOWEVER, therere’s the problem that the thing…..it consumes the frame. So, head’s up for anyone doing this:
FRAME CONSUMED WHEN YOU MAKE ENDLESS POTION!
I’m going to bump this thread up to the top of this section and throw my hat in the “thank you very much, A.Net” pile. The event, though with some minor faults, is overall fun, exciting, and a great merriment.
I’m very giddy about the jumping puzzle too, as it’s architectural design is far more appealing on the eyes than that of the Clocktower. The video didn’t disappoint in it’s delivery of gaiety to ‘most’ of the players of this very enjoyable game.

Are you familiar with the magical flute from WoW? There was a flute item, considered a rare item to obtain, that would absolutely drive people insane because it caused everyone in a certain radius to dance when played. People would troll others by mailboxes for hours on end, funny as it was.
But “that charr” is Rytlock, who is a main character of the game.
I’d buy a Quaggan plush, but my pipe dream is actually a Zojja or Snaff plush.
How can you have a Snaff plush without the associated Zhitan chomping down on his body? ;P
But yes, the OP’s idea of a Quaggan plush is a great idea and I definitely want one. “Here, Arena.Net, take my money!”
(edited by Siphaed.9235)
I’d already started a thread about this earlier today here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wintersday/Mystery-Wintersday-Box-Not-Dropping/first#post1011027
And the same results: Nope.
I don’t think anyone in the entirety of the game has seen one of these things drop yet. It’s come to my attention that it looks like they don’t drop at all, which would either be a bug (hopefully), or they flat out lied in the patch notes (hopefully not).
It’s not a bug. The developers hinted at the mobs coming from the presents getting harder each time more and more as the mobs change. Tomorrow should be the Charr miniature soldiers, which certainly have to be a nightmare to deal with.
I’m only assuming that once Tixx reaches Lion’s Arch, the boxes will contain a mixture of all the toys together. That will be when the real fun begins.
P.S. I don’t think these boxes are by any means meant to be soloed by a single person. They’re like micro Dynamic Events for several players been 3-5 estimated. They’re not hard for a group set up, because that’s their design.
I’ve spent nearly 30 minutes searching and cannot find anything at all. If anyone know where this magical “chemny” or “special tree” or “building that’s already destroyed” is, please screenshot and post it. This is nuts. Thank you.
Because it’s not that cold in the city. The snow is being introduced artificially through use of Asuran machines that Tixx deployed a week before he arrives.
It’s great that we get minis through the holiday (though very cheap that we can only create “2 free” and the rest we have to buy from the gem store); however I’m upset that we still have no Polymock arena going for this game….we still have no Shooting Gallery….we still have no Moa Racing.
Why is it that of all the mini-games we’ve had added to the game since launch, a whooping 1 of them has been permanent while the rest have be ‘holiday specific’ temporary?
—Costume Brawling: Permanent game feature.
—Reaper’s Rumble: Halloween only.
—Inquisition: Halloween only.
—Snowball Mayhem: Christmas/Wintersday only.
—Bell Choir: Christmas/Wintersday only.
Oh but look, we have an infinite version of the consumable bell that can be enjoyed as a musical instrument year around. Too bad it’s a “very rare drop” that barely anyone will have. The ONE item that might have brought a permanent musical mini-game play to the game….and it’s not obtainable by any other means than a very seldom hitting RNG system.
What irks mean the most is Polymock, which was described as using minis to fight in a pokemon style battle arena set up by the Asura, is yet to be in game or any word of it.
Even worse yet is the way they’re releasing these minis into the game as such that it’s giving a very horrible image that Polymock will never be done pre-expansion and we’ll never get to see it in the solo release version of this game. Some minis are super rare, but that doesn’t mean obtainable only by going swimming into the lava pools of Mount Malestrom, or deep into the cave of the Karka nests, no…they’re “rare” because of an RNG system that makes people have to spend anywhere between $10-100 to get certain ones (all account bound, mind you…so you cannot buy from other players), and then others require finding multiple of the rares to combine and make a super rare one.
So, will we ever see Polymock this side of 6 month mark of the game’s life cycle?
Will Polymock (if it ever exists) cause a revamp of the mini pet system?
Sourced meat: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Game-Update-Notes-December-14-2012/first#post998477
patch notesRare mystery Wintersday boxes will have a chance to drop throughout the world. They will also be available in the consumable category of the Gem Store. They will contain gifts available in-game, plus a random item only available in the store.
Boxes will contain one to five gifts, plus one of the following:Common: a Wintersday dye pack, a gingerbread snowball mortar, or one of three unique Wintersday transformation tonics.
Uncommon: One of three new festive miniatures; a snowman, a festive golem, or the toymaker’s Infinirarium.
Rare: The festive fur cap, and a claim ticket for your choice of winter wooden weapons.
Very Rare: Infinite self-style hair kit or unique Wintersday baby quaggan miniature. The Wintersday baby quaggan miniature can also be crafted in the Mystic Forge by using any combination of miniature snowmen, infinirarium, or festive golems, and 50 enchanted stuffing (available in-game). The “mystery Wintersday box” is available in consumables for 100 gems each, or 10 for 800 gems.
The Black Lion Chest has also been updated. Check the items section of this update for more information. More items and sales will become available over the course of the Wintersday festivities, so be sure to keep an eye on the Gem Store.
~Evon Gnashblade
This is what the notes said for how the Rare Mystery Wintersday Box is/was supposed to drop in the real gameworld instead of just being cashshop item. However, it doesn’t seem to be the case.
I’ve yet to see a single one drop, and not one of my guild members have seen one drop either. I’ve asked around Lion’s Arch and nobody else seems to gotten a dropped one as well.
So, the question to the playerbased forum goers: Have you obtained a Rare Mystery Wintersday Box from a drop (not from paying 100gems for it)?
P.S. When is the last time ANYONE has seen a dropped Blacklion Key? No, not one obtained through a map completion or story completion, I’m talking an actual drop.
They will continue to change throughout the week as Tixx produces the different toys. There’s also a random chance to see a toy (or skritt) from an earlier day. I’m sorry that these are currently too difficult, have you tried tackling them with an extra person or two?
They’re right on the difficulty, please don’t change a thing. In fact, in EB I ran through a crowd of JQ that were fighting these toys by some gifts….ran through and stole the gifts, downstated a JQ, and then died by them all turning on me. But, it was funny
So 10 Ugly wool sweaters = a Giant wintersday gift and that gift gave me 1 ungly wool sweater…..
Working as intended?
Random, but definitely intended. I bought only one, and it got me 3x Bells, which are really cool consumables that allow me to do Bell Choir anywhere I choose for a short period (I suck at it though). So, it’s really…lottery man.
if anything the developers did listen a little to the “cant see yourself cause of the mob” complaints, I am finding the white cross on the boxes make it easier to see where I am. But I am still failing at this.
To those who have done it or found it easy, congrats, but some of us are having issues with it and even watchign the youtube vid shed no light on why I am getting defeated at the end even though I was doing the same things the guy in the video was doing.
At which part is the end that you’re referring to?
If it’s general defeat, you may have run out of health. The “timer” this time is represented by your health constantly depleting due to frostbite from the cold, and the only solution is to get into the warm safety of the chest room. There’s many of times I’ve gotten there to the end and nearly lost because I had 300HP left and that was it (once I failed and died on the presents with 0hp because of it).
Or, are there other areas that are defeating you? The snowballs aren’t the only problem near the end, as there’s a sneaky Asura that’s throwning ice shards down that path too (represented by red rings that can be dodged out of …but do not dodge off the cliff!).
Also, notice how there’s a snowman right after the Q-Bert style presents that you have to watch visually and listen audibly because he blows wind to try to knock you off before you’re no the peppermint log to the snowball roll.
If anyone’s getting an issue with the Q-Bert style presents, just remember to stay right (as I did in the video). The right side is the slowest to ‘pop’ before they all disappear and it’s the easiest to climb.
Hopefully those tips help people having some trouble with the jumping puzzle. And have some fun. If you don’t find it fun, don’t try it. It’s not required and it’s better to skip it for something fun than to torture yourself into something you don’t like.
P.S. Remember, this jumping puzzle is about getting presents to the children safely. Think of the children!
There seems to be an element of entitlement from some people in this thread, as if not having the skill and patience should give the same rewards to someone that does not. Computer games don’t work that way.
In fact, the risk should match the reward. And in the case of the clocktower, it was defiantly appropriate as you got an 80 exotic for completion for a few hours work.
Personally, I found it fun and I’m really looking forward to the next challenge. And I’m quite happy to see that they’re addressing the problems which are unrelated to personal skill (other players blocking the view) which should make the whole thing more enjoyable.
Agreed on all accounts. Good post. +1
I agree as well on that they’ve kept the challenge, but gotten rid of the congestion. It’s also insane that people demand it to be rewarding to them just because they cannot complete it from one reason or another. The thing is fun, enjoyable fun.
And the jumping puzzle is freakin’ awesome! Super sweet and 100x better than Clocktower!
A countdown would be lovely, but if they’re not willing to give us a start time in the first place, then what chance do we have for a countdown? :P
Countdown would read as follows…
5:0:0:2
(S:O:O:N)
It works….
So, finally A.Net publicly shows it’s trailers to the masses to try to obtain more customers. What’s that? You haven’t seen any commercials on it? Oh, that’s because there is no commercial for it.
Instead we’ve got a short right before one of the biggest movies of the year: The Hobbit. Yep, just before last night’s Hobbit movie premiered at midnight, one of the preview trailers happened to be one running for Guild Wars 2. What a great option that’s far better than any commercial could have been (though running it during Spike TV’s VGA show wouldn’t have killed them).
I did proceed to update the original post with some information about the new jumping puzzle from Massively.com’s preview:
—Still timer timed.
—Still grouped/batches of players.
—3 separate paths that can be taken, so less congestion.
Well, good luck and see you all in the dead pits below ;P
Oh man this is funnny…..there’s “no resource nodes”, but he neglected the following:
WvW features holiday-themed siege weapons, like ballistae that shoot candy canes. Presents will occasionally fall from the sky from Tixx’s marvelous airship. Try not to let them hit you on the head, but once they’ve landed, you can interact with them to get stuff. What sort of stuff? You’ll never know unless you open one up! There will also be snowmen scattered around the world, waiting to be assembled.
So, instead of WvW players going for candy-corn nodes, they’ll instead be chasing after falling presents and building snowmen. Hahahahaha…..
As an Asuran Elementalist who can’t stand the cold against my beautifully flowing ears, I’ll use Fireballs and Lava Fonts to melt any snow the rest of you try to conjure up. Sorry, I’m just that warm-hearted.
No, there’s no resource nodes. Something else will take the place of ad-hoc, holiday content on the go. There are new crafting recipes, but the components for those will come from the rewards gained by playing any holiday content.
Azjenco, I’m saying that there will be new crafting components specific to Wintersday. To get them, you play Wintersday stuff. Activities, events, etc.
We took a very different approach to Wintersday crafting than Halloween. There’s a lot more recipes and we made some of our unique skins considerably more easy to get.
So, from my understanding, speculation, and interpretation of what you’ve just said: none of the Wintersday craftable items will use current existing items, but instead will have specific Wintersday materials.
Based on this new information, I must immediately overreact:
1) SELL EVERYTHING! (No reason to try to ride prices on items now, they’re going to tank within this 24hr period prior to the patch where everyone will find this out for themselves).
2) As soon as Friday’s patch happens, grind my rear off on the new content to farm out the Winterdays materials and sell high immediately prior to a market bloat at the end (i.e. what Halloween had on candycorn).
3) Spread a rumor that there’s a double-secret recipe that includes X amount of Y to artificially increase demand for a limited time so that people would buy into it while I make a killing profit (j/k, I’m no Martha Stewart).
Okay, there’s a big elephant in the room…and it’s guarded by the Champion Karka. That permanently placed Rich Orichalcum node has single-handedly killed the Orichalcum market for profit miners and market speculators alike.
Some of us consider that a good thing…
You consider it a good thing that the market on rare things is becoming flooded and “not so rare” because of a major oversight on certain usage? I would say it’s a horrible thing.
As mentioned in an earlier post, the price of Orichalcum also reflects on the price of crafted goods. The cheaper the ore gets, the cheaper the crafted items get and the less profit that crafters can make as well. Exotics dip so low that they might border on the price of a vendor offer, and then it’s considered too far, but that brink is coming…
Here’s what some people in this thread aren’t understanding when they say “a character slot is 800 gems, it’s not worth it…” and all that jazz. A player gets 5 character slots per account off the bat. If a person dedicates 99% of their time to a single character, that leaves the other 4 as open wasted space that never get leveled up. However, with being a bunch of level 2 characters, they can now exploit this farming method to obtain 5x their normal orichalcum amount than that of their only one level 80.
In all technicalities, based on how they designed Orichalcum picks, a level 2 shouldn’t be farming end-game tier materials; this is also why every reset the nodes change position, because it helps to prevent character-park-camping of specific node locations.
That is why I suggested in the original post to level-lock the Orichalcum so that nobody below a level threshold (be it 40, or the original 60) is able to yield Orich out of it. This is how it’s originally designed and how it should function. If a person levels 5+ characters past the threshold to farm, to play, to whatever….kudos and they can have it because they put tons of time into multiple characters, but a person should not yield these kind of valuables when they’ve got nearly no time in the character at all…it’s almost as bad as botting.
Haha, I don’t think game changes should be made because a specific individual’s means of profit has been reduced.
If you’re thinking it’s only an individual’s means of profit, that’s a one-track minded thought.
First, there’s the economy of the game itself. Orichalcum, just like Ancient Wood and Ommnomm Berries, is meant to be a rare crafting material specifically designed for high-end items (not even rares, but exclusively exotics). To flood the market with this rare item is to decrease it’s value, as well as decrease the value of every item related to it (crafted exotics).
Yes, I’m effected by this form of revenue being decreased, but so is a large chunk of the community. There were multiple websites and blogs dedicated to make new Orichalcum maps of Orr because it helped others keep up the lucrative market, ….yet with SSC having this node, and people farming it at a guaranteed spot with 5 different characters (1 x level 80, 4 x level 2’s), that gives them far more yielded Orichalcum than ever from a single Orr run on one character. So, many of these sites have stopped posting the maps, given up on the market of a supposedly rare ore because it’s sank so low.
P.S. As someone else in this thread already said, it does seem like a bug/exploit and has been reported. I’m hoping by posting in this thread it will get the word spread out.
Okay, there’s a big elephant in the room…and it’s guarded by the Champion Karka. That permanently placed Rich Orichalcum node has single-handedly killed the Orichalcum market for profit miners and market speculators alike. How so?
Currently there are “special picks” either from The Black Lion Trading Company or from a renown heart guy in Bloodtide coast http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crusader_Patrick. These picks, unlike Orichalcum Picks, are not level locked and can be used by even a level 1 character. Both these picks are also account bound so dumping them from a main level 80 into your bank to supply your alts isn’t that difficult either.
Now, unlike Orr, getting to Southsun Cove is relatively easy for any level 2 character just by going through the Asura Gate from their capital city to Lion’s Arch. From there just take the ship from the docks to SSC and they’re there. And, it’s just a trick of using movement increasing boons, abilities, and stealth (usually Thief alts are used) to get to the node and wait for a very casual other player to distract the Champion while the low level mines the ore node.
Some ideas to fix this clearly exploited/broken situation to re-stabilize the Orichalcum market:
1) Make all picks that mine Orichalcum level 40 and above for the “special” ones and level 60 for the normal ones as they are now.
2) Make Orichalcum nodes themselves locked to where a character below level 60 cannot mine it. This lock would still allow those “special picks” to be used on all other kinds of ore, just not yield any Orichalcum.
3) Soulbind those Masterwork Picks sold by the heart Karma vendor so that they can’t be passed by a level 80 to a level 1 character.
Any other solutions could/would be appreciated. But there’s got to be a way to cap this leak sooner rather than later.
New Speculations to add:
1) All Dolyaks in WvW are turn into Reindeer for the event’s length.
2) Candy-cane nodes everywhere in the world! Yay!
3) The “toys” are polymocks and Polymock arena will open up (crosses fingers)
4) Snowmen are going to become evil and attack Tyrian citizens.
5) People will still ignore the world around them and do “LFG FotM Lvl ??”
What do you mean, “killing things”?
List of non-killing activities:
-Snowball fights.
-Jumping Puzzle.
-Music Bell Choir.
-Initial toy drops from Tixx.
The only thing that includes/requires killing from what’s been revealed is the Toypocalypse, which is just fixing a bunch of broken toys (by breaking them!).
I just want to know if this event will have a reward worth playing for. Like the lost shore. Thats all.
I’m going to say “no”, just so that you’ll not play it. I really don’t know if there’s a reward or not, but if that’s your only motivation then by all means don’t join in the holiday festivities.
I’m glad that A.Net never announced the rewards for the killing of the Ancient Karka, as the only people that participated were those wanting to actually do the event (though some expecting a large reward were there, they just had no idea).
So, with this event, I instead ask that if there is any such reward that A.Net again not tell anyone and that only those that participate for the sake of it would get it.
P.S. When I hear of people not wanting to do anything unless they get “uber rewarding loots”, it only makes me think of Scrooge.
Dear Mr. Toymaker Tixx,
I’d like to officially request you cancel your Windersday toy deliveries this year in Tyria. None of the boys or girls have been good enough to receive the gifts you were planning to rain down in the cities. This has been a year of many evils: vanity, selfishness, hate, and disrespect for players and developers alike.
To bring examples of this on the table, I’ll start with both disrespect and hate towards the developers. This came with the Ascended Gear announcement and has yet to cease. There have been many names and hateful terms thrown around towards new, free content for the players that it’s all astonishing.
I wonder if they’d been happier if the Fractals of the Mists cost $5 in Gems? But, seems like no matter what, there seems to be hate for the new dungeon and the new gear. Even the new lands (Southsun Cove), there are still huge gripes about it either being too hard or useless space, or other issues of complaint. Very few rejoice on the newest real estate of Tyria.
Oh, and let’s not forget the fight endured to push back the beasts that had invaded populated areas. I weep for those that lost their lives (and lighthouses) in that faithful day that the Karka invade; yet I cheer for those that were able to take the fight to their lands a few days later and defeat the Ancient Karka beast. Regretfully, all this seems to be missed by the shouts about “unfair treasures” and people wanting nothing more than shinnies (I’m thinking there might be a Skritt plague infecting the Tyrian population at the moment).
And now we have a recent event of most unfortunate news. In an attempt to boost the numbers of heroes in Tyria, developers have offered a generous Holiday promotion of giving a digital upgrade to regular status newcomers, as well a mystical Wizard Hat (mystical because it disappears instantly when the wearer enters combat). Instead of greeting these newcomers with open arms, Tyrians raised pitchforks towards the developers about them not getting said hat, or that nary 3-months prior they’d paid “$20 more” for that digital upgrade.
“T’is the season to be jolly.” has yet to reach the ears of Tyrians. The streets run rampant of misery and dismay. It seems as if the Skritt, Scrooge, and the Grinch have all teamed up to infect the population with greedy, selfish ways and terrible attitudes.
Although some of us would appreciate your yuletide cheer and generous spirit, it seems as if Tyria is undeserving of it. Though if you’re still planning on coming to Tyria, please be prepared to haul a lot of coal into the streets to pass out.
Sincerely,
A very concerned Tyrian.
We’re sorry about the confusion, all. The items will be available when the Wintersday game update is live. We’re having our team correct the web page text so it’s clearer.
As much as I appreciate you actively working on things, why apologize to the very few that don’t get the obvious in a typo?
The big banner at the top of the page reads:
Wintersday
The Wondrous Workshop of Toymaker Tixx
December 14 – January 3
To not understand that all the content there contained within the details is meant for the 14th and no sooner is to mean that they have some educational flaws. It makes this thread a waste of space on these forum, a waste of your time to come in here and answer it (A.Net guy), and just an all around sense that the community is that dense to not understand things.
Sheesh, what’s with the racism towards the Asura? I’m sorry that you other races feel inferior to our obviously superior intellect, but that’s just the way the Eternal Alchemy designed things.
I’ll answer a few thing to clarify what and why things are the way they are (I’ll try to simplify them for the bookahs reading this):
1) The Consortium was originally founded by Asurans, however they since expanded and allowed non-Asuran races to join. That is why the lead members of the Consortium are/were Asuran, because they founded it.
2) The V.O.E.D. (that’s “Very Old Energy Detector” for the bookahs out there), was created as an invention for the Snaff Prize. This is what was used to find the magical energies related to the ghosts of the past that told the story of the rise and fall of the Mad King. How else are the other races going to talk to ghosts? The Charr would probably just fired guns trying to kill them as they do at Ascalon.
3) Giant airships may be using “some” tech and design off of the other races, but the real key is the power to how it runs; which is purely Asuran tech. Also, the toys aren’t just simply ‘made-by-hand’, they’re created by a toy making machine. There’s no other race that could make such sophisticated machines to make that many toys for Tyria than an Asura.
*Note: As for the Sylvari, most of their entire reasoning for being in Tyria revolves around the Elder Dragons. They’re a young, somewhat foolish race that is abstract to the world around them. A Sylvari solution to the invading Karka would probably have been to try to hug them.
*Note: Charr are a warring race, it’s most all they know. The only reason they even stopped fighting with the humans is because of the peace treaty that Queen Jenna set up. That and they nearly blew themselves up in their two campaigns against Ascalon and Orr. To believe a Charr could hand out gifts to anyone, especially humans, is laughable at best.
*Note: Bookahs….er, Humans….are on the brink of extinction due to their foolish mistakes in the past. It’s so bad that their human gods have abandoned them for who knows what dominion and they’re close to starting a civil war because of a split verdict on the peace treaty with the Charr.
*Note: And the last race to pick on is the Norn. Honorable as it may be, these giants of the frozen north are very primitive. They mostly wear furs as clothing, worship animals in the wild, and live in huts made of wood and more furs thrown on top. There’s just no way they could deal with the complexities involved with developing toys for all of Tyria, let alone distributing it (unless they pray to some thousands of birds to carry them everywhere, but where’s the fun in that?).
The question was not really answered there. The dev post in that thread states that if you miss a day in a city, you will be able to replay that cities event on a later day.
It may very well be the case that the playable city events are unrelated to any “participation reward”. For example a city event might be a game in which you have to build snowmen in an instanced zone, while the other team has to prevent you from it. The dev post states, that if you miss the specific day, you will still be able to play that event on a later date, when all of the events will be enabled to play for everybody from lions arch.
Whether there will be any item rewards for having been present in a city for the actual visit was not revaled. You only think you have the answer, because without having the required information you assume that if any item reward will be handed out, it will be in form of a reward for that cities “event” and thus conclude that if you can replay that “event” on a later day, you can also acquire the reward on a later day.
That however is pure speculation.
Be a skeptic cynic all you’d like, but it was answered. Those day-events will repeat when Tixx lands in LA, just as the Halloween events were repeatable all the way until the last day. And, with them being repeatable, people were still able to get the book(s) with them. There’s no indication that “you’ll be able to repeat them ‘for fun’, but not be rewarded”, because it sounds ludicrous just saying it.
Are you guys really that oblivious? It’s clearly a typo and the “today” is meant for the 14th. Nothing related to the Wintersday patch is going in until the 14th. This kind of incapacity for comprehension of things is just astounding. I’m honestly not trying to be rude at all, but obvious things are very obvious.
Thread question answered here:

Just watch for dev posts in this section, as most questions on Wintersday have been answered already. Enjoy.
Think of Left4Dead, but with 5 people defending against waves of evil toys in a toyshop floating in the sky. That’s what the description says, that’s what I’m banking on. There might be defensive devices that players control, turrets they set up, and so on for the like. It’s all in the defense of a toy-making machine that the evil toys try to take over.
Possibly a Tower Defense game?
P.S. Giant evil stuffed teddy bears. Yes, please make it so.
To clarify things, as the original poster, I absolutely LOVE jumping puzzles and their difficulty/challenge.
During BW#3, the EB dungeon dark-room jumping puzzle was broken and none of the light sources were properly providing lighting. Did the entire thing pitch black, twice.
As for this jumping puzzle, I’m really hoping that the Snowmen do as I’d speculated in either giving a frost aura or throw snowballs at players. This adds additional elements that give to the challenge another step. However, I must as new speculation.
From the new screenshots and description given, I’m seeing something like players carrying a stack of wrapped presents as they jump in an attempt to no drop any. Not sure how that will play out, or if that interpretation is correct, but it sounds wickedly fun.
Hello Guild Wars 2.
Since I logged in on the game i was verry surprised,
The graphics where good, no quests and stuf and a verry good comunity-based gameplay. But a little problem for me was; i couln’t be a healer.
Healing yourself, yes. Others, no.Before i start playing this game i played World of Warcraft. I liked the game but became sick of doing quest after quest after quest.
De good side of that coin was healing. EVery race could heal (like we can do too) but in a different rate. you got Healing Over Time healer, Instant healers, or Area Of Effect healing. I really liked that (not that i want go back) and it’s a shame everyone can heal himself so they don’t need supporting people like me to help them (other than killing the enemy)
Actually i hoped Arenanet had something to offer for every player, onfortunatly not for me. I am not complaining about leaving the game (when that was the case i would have left without saying that) but i just hope Arenanet will think about this.
Yours Faithfully,
I hate to be “that guy” but I would like to point out that you should research your product before buying it. Guild Wars 2 was said time and time again to have gone away with the “holy trinity” and everyone would have their own heals. The developers has said there is no dedicated healer, no dedicated tank, and everyone can do damage.
I’m sorry you expected otherwise, but those expectations were falsely place. A.Net will not change this, because of the way they build the combat system of this game as well as their stance against the Trinity.
If Guild Wars 2 was a movie…..
It would have to be a saga spanning several parts:
1) Destiny’s Edge gathering, training to fight Zhitan
2) DE’s fall, the death of Snaff, and the coward human running away.
3) The build up of the armies of the Pact, Trahern shutter, and the airship armada that invades Orr.
4) DE’s gather back again, through their trials facing their own ghosts. This includes defeating the Nightmare Court, obtaining the Foefire blade, killing the Inquest guys, defeating the Flame Legion, and helping the Koden.
5) Zhitan’s fall (in great battle glory better than that of LotR’s 3rd movie ending).
6) The death of Trahern. (audience cheers, votes it movie of the year and for an Oscar).
