Monthly SLOW Phases like F&F was?

Hey folks,

The Southsun Shore stuff will not be like the previous Flame and Frost stuff in regards to how time-spanning it was. We’re a separate team than that one, and we have been working on this content while you all were playing F&F content.
Our story will last a month and then be over with, and as a result is more condensed. We’ve been listening to the feedback on F&F, and tried our hardest to adjust where possible. So our temporary content will last just the month, but we are making some permanent changes to the island that will persist after the living story bit is over.

Thank you so much for the answer. Holy cow, you developers are awesome in responding to the players and their feedback. Never have I had experience with any other MMO team that has not only listened to it’s community, but communicated with them in such a way that you guys do. Again, thank you so very much.

Yep, speculation is now put aside:

The new Asura Gate is going to Lion’s Arch by direct connection. It’s possible that no more boats will go to Southsun Cove.

GW2 expansion - 1Q Ncsoft Conference Call [merged]

Here’s what we can guarantee about:

~~THERE WILL BE NO EXPANSION IN 2013!~~

Why do I say that? Because they already have planned and set in motion the entire year’s worth of Living Story and content releases related to that and the current game. With that road mapped out, and the fact that the game won’t become 1-year-old until nearly Q4, it’s easy to deduce that there won’t be an expansion this year.

Possibly not until Q4 2014 at the very earliest.

Living story doesn’t have to stop only because an expansion came out you know.
That being said I believe that the earliest possible date for it might be the end of 2013.
Why? First of all – holiday season, Christmas is a very popular time to release new games and make a profit. Secondly this comes out:
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/692/feature/7331/How-To-Train-Your-Dragonkittenml (replace that “kitten” with s(dot)html)
has the same combat style as guild wars 2, questing system includes both regular quests and Guild Wars 2 hears, their PVP system matters – players fight over land, the ability to build their own buildings and set their own rules. It can be an actual serious competitor to Guild Wars 2, therefore releasing an expansion pack at the same time as this MMO would make sense.
Now however I do say “the earliest”. There is a possibility that we won’t see any expansions until at least 2014.

First off, the real link is here: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/692/feature/7331/Dragons-Prophet-How-To-Train-Your-Dragonkittenml
The game is called “Dragon’s Prophet”

Secondly, it’s not anywhere near close to being a competitor to GW2 as it’s more along the lines of Pokemon with Dragons.

Lastly, you have to understand that although the IGG (that’s “Instant Gratification Generation”) likes to instantly demand an expansion after a game’s been out for 6 months, 3 months, 9 months, or whatever the case may be…they’re not going to get it. Content takes time to develop.

This game is only 9 months old and there’s no way in the world that they’ll have an expansion within the 1st year. Right now, it’s in CONCEPT PHASE. What’s that mean? It means that they’ve scribbled some ideas about what should be in an expansion on a piece of paper and a white board. That’s it.

May is month 5 of a 12 month year, which would mean that they’d only have 6 months at the most to make, test, and market an expansion to meet your “earliest holiday 2013” ideal. Not. going. to. happen.

Sure the Living Story stuff won’t stop while they make an expansion, or launch one. But right now they’re trying to focus on stabilizing the game’s content and fixing the holes that were left when priorities changed during the pre-launch crunch. Take for example how Polymock was put on hold. If they don’t launch that as ‘free content updates’ and try to sell it as boxed expansion content, they’ll have a riot on their hands. Not good business. A.Net knows how to do good business, so don’t question them and try to push an agenda of super fast content for some reason or another

. Sit back and enjoy the content we have now. The game is good as it is now. Have you played everything of it, gotten your Legendary weapons, leader-board top 10, and Rank 2,000 in WvWvW? Doubtful.

https://d3b4yo2b5lbfy.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/c6129Living-World-Pivot-Point-1.jpg

That’s how. See, that’s the far South-East encampment of the Consortium where they’re building one of their resort spots. In the last few patches, Golems have been gradually working on building that Asura Gate in the background. According to that picture, it looks like it’ll be complete with The Secrets of Southsun patch. Where does it link to? 10-to-1 bet that it’ll link to one of the batches of in-active Asura Gates inside that cavern area in Lion’s Arch.

But why, if it already is connected to Lion’s Arch from a ship?

I like that you’re only able to get there from taking a ship. It’s the only place in Guild Wars 2 where the only way to get there is from taking a ship.

Well,…..here’s the reason: It’s cheaper.

For the Consortium, it costs far more to have a ship travel to Southsun each and every time. This is because they have to pay for the ship crews, Lion’s Arch docking fees and so much more. In the long run, it’s cheaper just to have them contract the Asura for a single price of the Gates.

Also, that’s still just an assumption that it will link to Lion’s Arch. For all we know, it could be another experiment by the Consortium agent that developed the Gate into the Fractals of the Mists.

Downscaled Content is Far, Far Too Easy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

I find that downscaling is exactly how it was designed for and shouldn’t be changed. It puts the player level at the content level, but doesn’t change the fact that speced players at max have more stat power behind them as well as more through gear.

It’s still a far, far greater system than other games like WoW where your level is consistent throughout and basically makes old world content obsolete 100% of the time. Even quests 5 level below you are obsolete in that game…that sucked because I had many dozens in my log that were out-leveled.

New Race or New Class?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

What’s with the Instant-Gratification Generation (IGG) spilling over into MMO’s lately? This game is less than 1 year old (will be 1 year in August) and we have 5 fantastically flushed out races and 8 very unique classes. Like most other games, this game will not have a new race or class provided until at the very least 1.5-2 years into the game. These demands are becoming slave-driving against the developers.

So, please, stop asking. If you don’t like what we already have…..go play something else.

Siphaed.9235

Will this story chain be slowly ‘dragged out’ into several 1-month phases like the F&F story line was?

As much as I really enjoyed the Flame&Frost content, even I must admit that it was slow coming to climax. Even the bloggers and gaming news sites mentioned onto how slow the approaching events led up to the bigger parts and how the beginning was just too minimal.

~~>Building signs for refugees = boring. I’d rather be beating 1,000 polar-bears with the same piece of wood rather than using it to build even one sign.

~~> Invasion area = small. The areas were the portals opened up for the Molten Alliance to take over was incredibly small. That was an invasion? The bandits in the zones around Divinity’s Reach have more military push than that. I recall the close of the 1st Beta where The Shatterer flew over the zone and dropped crystals that infected players by the 100’s. It became a true invasion of a whole zone that this one just didn’t live up to; this invasion being only small sections of two maps that never fully effected the whole of either map.

~~>Investigation = too long and unorganized. The one major aspect of this event that should have been shrunk down to a week at most would have been the Order of Whispers secret drop locations part. It’s basically a “go here with this object in your bag”. The Guild Trek missions have far more going for them. It was also mishmash where there should have been a single location to start and that location gave clues to the next location and when that one is found the next one would give the following’s location and so on. This is true Order, true use of a Whisper chain.

~~>Climax = shortest part. I love the dungeon. It’s cool, it’s exciting, the boss is the best thing I’ve fought since Vexa from Vexa’s Lab (also a two-phase boss fight…kind of says something ‘wink, wink’). But, it’s also only existing for two weeks and no more. Building signs for refugees and digging in the snow/dirt lasted longer. This shouldn’t just be a slight irritation on the players, but also the developers who clearly put far more work into that dungeon rather than a few signs and dirt mounds. The most developed content should get the most spotlight.

As you can see, I have my feedback for the Flame&Frost. I know this isn’t the F&F event, but this feedback should apply to the future content such as The Secrets of Southsun. Crab tossing, for one example, is being said to be temporary and removed once the content related to it is gone. Will this be gone in 2-3 weeks while a “build an anti-Karka fence” objective stays for 4-6 weeks? That’s what I’m concerned about. That’s why I wrote this very long writeup.

People with mult 80s kittened by Laurel limit

First off, let’s point out that Dailies and Monthlies are ACHIEVEMENTS. Because of this, there’s no way to allow them to be done multiple times repeatedly because it would exploit the achievement system that’s set into place and designed.

Secondly let’s point out that the only Ascended gear that is out of the Laurels is the Amulet. Ascended gear is only around 5-6% different than Exotic gear. It’s not that much of a matter on those other characters that small amount on a singular item slot out of all the other item slots.

Thirdly, I also want to point out that you cannot be playing all those characters at the same time unless they’re on different accounts (if that were the case, you’d be able to do all the dailies on each account, rewarded each separately, and this whole thread would be moot).

Fourthly, (long list) there’s the point that certain things in this game are being designed so that players focus on a “main” character and that alts, while useful in their own aspects, are secondary play without the perks of the main. These changes include things like: account bound JP chests, account single-rewarded Molten Forged Gauntlets, character bound WvWvW ranks.

So, in closing: We can’t get everything, all the time, handed to us on a silver platter. Want everything? Good on you, but you’ll have to work the time to get it. Not instantly, but long term investment.

Crab Tossing? A new mini-game?!

The game draws inspiration from the crab guild challenge but plays a bit differently. There’s achievements, titles, and prizes for participants and winners.

Crab Toss will only be around for the duration of living story events at Southsun Cove. But don’t be too sad, as far as activities go, you might have a very exciting year ahead of you.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

/cry
/weep
/sadface

Why….why must it leave? I love these mini-games because besides Guild Missions that are set as basically guild-progression required, these can be scheduled and done on a weekly basis in a fun and fashionable style.

Also, how come there wasn’t a mini-game for the Flame&Frost event? How easily it would have fit into the game if you’d made a “Whack-a-Dredge” game or something on that line.

P.S. Any hints on the future of the “very exciting year”?

P.P.S. Any comments on the potential return of Hunger Games?

Suggestion:
1. Make a WvW lobby area (you select lobby from the same drop down menu where you sellect the wvw area to enter)
2. Have the entrance to the JPs in the lobby area (all of them).
3. Have crafting, banking, siege sellers, etc NPC’s there
4. Have the trainer…this is WvW, blah blah blah explanation stuff there
5. Have cool maps on the wall and a table top wargames area
6. Have the entrance to a dueling field and a gvg field/area/whatever

They have a Lobbing area….incidentally it’s called LIONS ARCH!

Edit:

Please, stop with this GvG garbage. WvW is not nor ever going to be a place for “Guild vs Guild”. It’s “Server vs Server vs Server” content and that’s how it’ll stay, because it’s there to promote Server partnership amongst your server’s guilds, not conflict them against each other. Now, if they do ever add in GvG content, expect it to be in sPvP only.

Will Southsun end in a Group Dungeon?

in Last Stand at Southsun

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

You guys can talk MMO this and that but at the end of the day Guild Wars never required a party outside of PVP. H/H. Maybe we should see the return of henchmen.

Then again maybe if there was a way to group properly across servers and in general then maybe no one would mind grouping.

I would like to see hearts and a meta on Southsun. Then maybe a dungeon.

Hate to break it to you, but this isn’t Guild Wars. This is GUILD WARS 2! This game is an MMORPG, that game (the original) was a Massive Co-Op Online Game (developers coined that phrase).

“I would like”, “I want”, “I….I…I”.
————-

That’s what I constantly hear when it comes to people who complain about group content. What about what others, who’s goal is to truly play an MMORPG with others, want? What about the design of the developers and what they want to achieve?

It would seem to me that those that are very anti-social, like the OP (who mentioned no friends list, no guild, and refuses to group with people) has no sync with the ideals of the design of this game or it’s future. To that I say “best of luck in whatever game you choose to play in the future”, and then he can quietly leave this game; but please do not come in here and demand they change the content that they’re trying to make many of people happy, with how they’re trying to design THEIR game, and asking for it to be changed for your own self. Isn’t that a bit selfish?

Will Southsun be ending in a Group Dungeon?

I would like to know so that I don’t waste my time with the content. I have no desire to complete a single player chain; only to beg 4 other players to run me through a dungeon.

Forcing people to party to complete a dungeon is just wrong, especially after a long chain of soloable content.

A) Being on Southsun Shore, it’s more than likely that the lead-up-to-climax content will be group content. This is to assume that the creatures of Southsun Shore that are “going nuts” are the Karka and floating tentacle creature, of which usually require grouping to defeat (those guys HURT!)

B) Even if the pre-content is solo content, that doesn’t define the content to come after it.

This is an MMORPG. What’s that mean? MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER ONLINE ROLE PLAYING GAME. This is not a single player game (like Skyrim or Bioshock). This game is designed and meant to be played with interactions with other players; to be sociable, if you will.

If there is group content/dungeons, or what have you, then you can refuse to play it. Good on you for choosing how to play the game. However, the many hundreds of thousands to millions of other players will quite happily enjoy the new content with GUILDMATES, FRIENDS, and PUGS. Because people on your server are not your enemy to despise and look your nose down upon; instead they are fellow gamers who enjoy the same pastime as you do.

I’m annoyed to even see it announced when Bar Brawl (which has had achievements for months) isn’t in the game yet…

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Bar Brawl completely replaced by Costume Brawl? And reasoning behind it was that CB could be done anywhere in the world, even outside a dungeon entrance waiting for more group members; this is while BB could only be done within the confines of a specific bar not even within the area that most population traverses towards.

Please, stop asking for them. I understand you haven’t been on in the last month, but every week we see at least 1-5 threads about raiding. This is not a raiding game. It will never be a raiding game. If you’d like a raiding game, there’s WoW or the superior Rift. Take your pick.

However, this game is what it is and isn’t what it isn’t. It is a cooperative play PvE, sPvP, WvW, exploration partial sandbox-partial rollercoaster game of fun things that the player can pick and choose to do however they’d like. It is NOT a raid centric jump from one raid to the next for rare, low drop items that help boost stats to lead to the next raid of same flavor, but different paid scheme.

THANK YOU!

I have to say a much appreciated “Thank you” for finally adding another mini-game into the game itself. It’s very negative that we only have two total in the game right now -Keg Brawl and Costume Brawl-, so positive light must be shed on additional ones.

The Q:

Will this be a permanent addition? Or something temporary?

I’m bothered in how we’d lost the Snowball Fights, Reaper’s Rumble, and Lunatic Inquisition after their short existence within the game. Though I’m sure they’ll return with their respective holidays once again at the end of the year.

P.S. Any indication that we’ll get to see a Hunger Games event return to the game once again? Would love to see it set as the main thing to do for the anniversary of the game’s launch date.

don’t care about those that like it by calling them “carebears”).

They arent removing it, they are moving it.

And it has no place in WvW. Far to many PvE players taking up spots just to get Badges without having to fight for it aswell as a shot at a precursor.

Well, that’s why they made the chest Account Bound instead of character bound. That change from this last patch a week ago is what really changed things around and made a difference. Because moving it will still have PvEers and what not going into it to “farm badges” and get a shot at precursors; but having the chest change to account bound makes it unfarmable (it’s a word I made up).

That’s also what was the impetus for removing the crafting stations. The more time people spend in the maps not playing WvW, the longer the queues are.

I take it this means you will be removing Jumping Puzzles from WvW aswell… you know, people jumping around not doing WvW… Just to “earn” badges without actually having to fight or contribute. Taking up slots.

Now that would have a far greater impact of removing deadweigth players from WvW than removing crafting stations, while being a far smaller bother to your actual WvW community.

I wonder if we can even do that… :P The EB JP is coming out for the May 14th release.

What the [blank] is wrong with you guys? This was niche content, sure, but it was something that many enjoyed. It still was PvP content, was fun, challenging, and added a sense of adventure. The JP’s in the Borderlands are so far out of the way that people rarely participate within them, leaving no real PvP usage of them at all.

You misunderstood. EB JP will get its own map instead of counting into EB. My guess is that they build some flair around it (grubs, worms, maybe a part of the living story or a duengon).

But I created this thread because of a different issue: There is no bank at 6 out of 9 BL spawns. The citadel spawns have the crafting stations, but well…
The blue spawn on the red border doesnt even have a normal merchant with salvage kits and stuff. This is like 4h work for a programmer, but still nobody fixed this issue.
An issue that is imo very important.

Except Anet thinks WvW isnt enough of a gold sink and wants us to buy bank acces thingys from the gem shop.

I did misunderstand and kind of jumped the gun on that rant there, but the wording he put in front wasn’t clarified and basically made it seem like it was being removed completely.

As for what your issue with “banks lacking from WvW”, …..isn’t that the reason for the Bank Upgrade for keeps and garrison? They’re there if your server works to hold the objective, pay for the upgrades, and escort the Yaks towards it. It’s a matter of your server working to get those services earned, not just automatically having them.

The crafting NPC’s should be removed. I say this because right now in the Guild Vendors there’s Guild Crafting Stations available for people to use if they’re deployed. These can be used at keeps and garrisons if people desperately need/want to do something of that nature in WvW and have the will to spend the currency on it. But, if you’re going to be crafting at all for extended periods of time, that’s when you should leave WvW entirely and go craft in one of the 6 BEAUTIFUL CITIES OF TYRIA instead of taking up a WvWvW slot.

It is, essentially, another WvW map. You can still fight each other, it will behave exactly like the JP used to, except you will be removed from EB so someone who wants to come in to fight for objectives will not be kept from playing by someone running the JP.

So then a proper way to clairfy it would be “we’re splitting it’s map rules to be it’s own separate map”, not “we’re removing it from EB”

Jumping Puzzles was your guy’s unique flair to this genre, something that is clearly presented with every holiday event (Mad King’s Clocktower, Winter Wonderland, Super Adventure Box). But now you’re removing one of the most active PvP jumping puzzles because it took a few players away from an otherwise stagnate fight of “cap camp, cap tower, hit door with ram, repeat..”.

Okay, so you’re basically removing more WvW content (by “more”, I mean to reference the missing Orbs), ….

And what do we get as a replacement? Traps? REALLY?! Not even good ones. Ones that remove supply and take away Stealth (of which only two classes have it as far as I recall). Where’s the idea of spike traps to replace the spike traps that are going to get removed from EB JP? How about flame traps to replace the flame traps again from EB JP? Animal spawning traps to make up for the upcoming loss of the EB JP arena room?

This change,….this just makes me lose faith in this game’s uniqueness as it pushes more toward mediocrity. I am saddened by this (and I really don’t care that those self-proclaimed ‘hardcore WvWers’ don’t care about the JP, want it to be removed, and don’t care about those that like it by calling them “carebears”).

Outfitter? You mean the NPCs selling PVP weapons/armor? If so, did you check just south of the home-point spawn location on Red BL – they were the last time I saw them (this was on Sanctum of Rall’s borderlands a few weeks ago).

I do wish banks were more accessible in WvW, but those are one of the few useful perks from upgrading personnel at a Keep. That said, IIRC, the banks were removed because people were queuing up for WvW just to access their bank, causing longer queue times.

That’s also what was the impetus for removing the crafting stations. The more time people spend in the maps not playing WvW, the longer the queues are.

Well, if this is the case, are there any thoughts in the ArenaNet HQ about removing/moving the jumping puzzles that often are the reason map/team chat is filled with “mesmer at the JP?”. The siege is useful but at this point in the game you shouldn’t need to be spending so much time in the JP to be able to afford siege.

No, they won’t be moving or removing it. They’ve instead changed it so that the reward (i.e. chest) is Account Bound on a daily timer. This means that people aren’t going to log-in/out 5 or more times to rush characters in there to get the chest over and over again. Just a quick run of the Jumping Puzzle to get the chest for siege and loot, then back out to the fight.

If there’s a Mesmer that’s willing to sit in the Jumping Puzzle for 30 minutes -porting in several dozen to nearly 100 allies to get siege for the war effort- then best to them as they’re still doing something for WvW (instead of organizing bank space or crafting a new pair of boots).

Why Map Completion should not include WvW

1) It is a PvP area
2) There is no way to walk into WvW from other zones. You must use an Asura Gate.
3) All PvE exploration can be completed solo while WvW requires groups to take points.
4) If one team remains first for weeks, other teams will have a hard time taking their points to get the exploration.
5) WvW is separated from PvE just like PvP is but we are not required to get PoI in PvP

This is in no way me crying that it is to hard to get these points. I just think that having WvW required for a PvE achievement seems flawed.

…..and everyone with an Exploration title, with a Legendary weapon, will say that it’s not impossible and to just “suck it up and do the content if you want the reward.”

“It will never change. Just deal.”

JPs and chest rewards

All jumping puzzles have chests at the end. The question you have to ask is: “Are you at the end of the jumping puzzle?”. Many have ‘fake endings’ where you think you’re done, but you’re not.

As far as the chest reset, it’s a 23:59 timer. So, if you did one yesterday at 1pm, you wouldn’t be able to do again any time prior to 1pm today. Hope that helps.

About that "unofficial dueling"

in WvW

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

I’m sorry to those that like “fight club” (which wasn’t all that great of a movie anyways), but you’re wrong in what you do and it is somewhat against A.Net’s rules/policies of conduct.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-conduct-breaches-outcomes/

Engaging in PvP match manipulation, disrupting a PvP match by not actively playing in good faith, or any other form of PvP griefing, exploitation, or abuse

Okay, so you’re not manipulating scores because you’re not exchanging kills or spiking. That’s not the issue.

The issue is that you’re not actively playing in good faith the real designed participation of WORLD VS WORLD VS WORLD (i.e. SERVER vs SERVER vs SERVER). The designed aim of this content is not 1-vs-1 ‘duels’, but active participation with your server to engage and defeat the other server through combat and map control. Also note that these duels do happen during long queues (I’ve personally seen it many times) and that itself is an interruption of the other player’s fun for your server who want to participate in real WvWvW and cannot, or those that want their guildmates into the server, but cannot due to duelists taking up slots.

The last thing to look at is exploitation, which you many not realize that you’re doing. How? You’re communicating with other members of the other servers though Guild Chat (or sometimes party chat, where you can actively invite someone from the other server to your party..they need to fix that). It’s not too bad just to communicate, but when you’re talking to them about stomping “interrupters” and killing people that are messing up your ‘duels’ while you actively communicate to them that you’ll not interfere with them doing that stomping…..that is exploitation. That is something that can and should get you suspended and ultimately banned from the game.

Additional Note: sPvP is built around dueling. I’m sorry if you feel that “it’s not the same because I cannot do X build because no stats like WvW”, but it is far more balanced and set properly for that content. In about a month or two, custom arenas will be open to EVERYONE equally and thus you’ll be able to set up your own personalized guild duels there away from other people’s content.

Flame & Frost: BROKEN!

Server: Jade Quarry.

Currently in both the Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau, the events related to the Flame and Frost are broken.

=>Dead Drops: Not existing.

=>Dirt Covered/Snow Covered Mounds: Not there.

=>Refugee Signs: There, but cannot be interacted with.

=> Dead Refugees: There, but again cannot be interacted with.

Because all these are broken, they cannot be completed. This is bad for those of my guild who tried to do these to get the cool Gauntlets (that I’ve be lording over them in how I’ve already gotten mine). This needs worked on soon because of the limited time frame.

I believe they have said they are doing living stories in an attempt to give the game a more live feel. If something good sticks around too long it becomes stagnated. However, when it is taken away before this can happen, you are left with your nostalgia. There are indeed pros and cons to this tactic, but this is simply how Anet wants to do things. They are experimenting with what works and what doesn’t. If it doesn’t pan out as planned you can expect them to stop.

I think a better question is why do we have to go through 6 months of beta testing for them to have something not pan out.

It’s sort of difficult to get an idea if something will work or not before they do it at least once. This IS their living story.

In all honesty it shouldn’t be a hard decision. Add a dungeon people can do for years or add a dungeon maybe if they are lucky half the people currently playing now will see.

You tell me which one would be better for the longevity of the game.

The latter, because people would keep coming back to experience content that will only be around for a short period of time. Rather than knowing it will be around forever and they can come back at any time. And that is essentially something you must have in a B2P game. Content that entices people to keep coming back.

That right there should end this thread. That’s exactly right and gives good reason WHY people should come back.

If the dungeon was to have come in and stay, why should I log in this month when I could log-in in August and have the same thing? No reason to, right? I’m not paying monthly, so it’s no money lost. But, by having temp content A.Net gets people to log in to the game, and word of mouth about how AWESOME THE DUNGEON IS people then get friends and fence sitters to purchase the game too. Customers.

Unique items after may 12th?

Simple answer: no.

You’ll still have them if you’ve got them, but after the 12th you’ll not be able to obtain them if you haven’t got them (or bought them off the trading post).

Many of the things though come back…like Halloween and Christmas content. That we’ll be seeing annually. What Anet is doing, at least in part, is building a library of things they can use.

It’s a very different idea for an MMO and I disagree with the poster who said they’d rather not go through six months of beta testing to see whether or not something will pan out. If everyone thought that way, the industry would be even more stagnant than it is now. Trying new things is what drives the industry forward. Without it, we’d all still be playing pong.

Only this isn’t a new thing. WoW and Rift have recurring seasonal events too, as well as chapters of the story as it unfolds. This whole “living story” thing has been around since WoW tried to do phased instances in WoTLK, it didn’t work out well then, I don’t see how this is going to end any differently.

Every time Rift unlocks a new raid or dungeon there is a 2-3 week event coinciding with the release of it. Only the raids or dungeons stay around forever after the event ends. This isn’t a new idea, and the GW2 version of it is poorly done.

Not even. Phasing for WoW was basically instancing off the open world, separating friends who weren’t on the same quests, and was still a static part of the world (do the phases of Cataclysm at it’s launch and it’s the same if you did an alt character today).

The only closest things that can be compared to the LIVING STORY in GW2 from WoW would be the opening of AQ and the opening of the TBC gate. One time events that are never played again, change the world in some slight way, and give the players a memorable experience (also if you were there for TBC’s gate opening, did the events, you’d get a unique Fel Tabord that you cannot get again, ever..another comparison to this event in that the Gauntlets have the same limitation of most likely not being able to be obtained ever again).

Rift’s events -that’s if they haven’t changed since the first 8-months of the game- consisted of “go kill Dead minions, go close Death Rifts” or whatever rifts related to the content that was launching. That’s not all that interesting, has almost no story context to it save for the tiny bit that’s stored up into the dungeon only. On the other hand, every event that Guild Wars 2 has had EVERY EVENT has had a well woven story tied to it through actions in the game that lead up to it: beached whales and warning signs for the Karka thing, the melting of the water fountain and the ghost stories for Mad King, the airship visits lore and snow for Wintersday, and the refugees, signs, invasion portals and micro story instances for Flame&Frost. Context to the content.

New non-cash shop armor sets? When?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

And I’m talking legitimately good armor sets that you DON’T buy on the cash shop. Braham and Rox’s items would be perfect items to actually obtain by doing this Molten Facility thing and yet you guys punish the people actually playing the game by putting them on the cash shop. What does Arenanet have against having armors that actually take some skill to get? I don’t need a gear treadmill but please give players some incentive to play the game instead of putting everything you work on in the cash shop.

If this is going to keep up I don’t see much of a reason to continue playing, why should I still be interested when I got the dyes and armor sets that I wanted months ago? I would like to see you guys progress with the Ascended gear with actual armor pieces that are visible and not trinkets that just add numbers.

The weapon skins are UNIQUE EVENT RELATED that are COMPLETELY OPTIONAL amongst the dozens to hundreds of skins we already have in the game ALREADY ADDED IN CONTENT FOR FREE. They gave us all the unique skins related to the Super Adventure Box for free, even the Gauntlets from the Flame&Frost.

And when push comes to shove, they’ve got to make some of the content cost if players want it, because they have to make some money to pay for the TONS OF FREE CONTENT that they give us besides the MASSIVE GAME UPKEEP that they do.

But ignore all that and please, continue complaining that you want everything for free or you’ll rage quit. That’s sure to get some attention…….

First let me start off by saying that I absolutely loved [almost] everything about this patch. The F&F content is great, the balance changes were much needed, sPvP is booming, and WvWvW is now partially balanced. However, there is one tiny thing that was Nerfed during this patch in an unlisted change that has me slightly irate.

Though we’ll have to wait until Custom Arenas are out of beta and publicly usable.

And what do you mean chase us? Looks to me that we’re chasing them all the way to their keeps and towers…..

30 April Patch Notes

Siphaed.9235

No. It never happens with A.Net. They release the patchnotes AFTER the patch is released to the servers. Why? Because that way they know that if something cannot make it within the patch, but is in the notes, they can quickly edit it out of there prior to releasing said notes, so as to not upset, confuse, or befuddle the player base. Just the same in reasoning, but opposite usage, is that if something extra makes it within the patch but isn’t in the notes, it too can be added in there.

WvWvW jump puzzles.....REALLY?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Siphaed.9235

OK, so I mind my own business not paying attention to the ‘enemy’ in trying to figure out a jump puzzle and I’m griefed daily for it? Listen…I know this is WvW but its bullkitten I can’t try to complete something fun because there’s always someone attacking at all times. No one has the common courtesy to not grief you I guess, I get it but its still lame. Maybe I’m alone in this, but I’m about done with this aspect of GW2. As a matter of fact, I may be about done with the whole game. Thanks for Gw’s ANET but part 2 is kitten

Which jumping puzzle are you referring towards: Behind the Waterfall or Eternal Battlegrounds? The former is in every borderland and the keys of one can work in another. So, you’ll just be able to go to a different map if one is being camped.

As for the EB jumping puzzle, that one is kind of tricky. See, it’s more of a ‘group’ thing to do. And trust me in saying that you want to have a Mesmer, Necromancer, or Engineer with you. Each of those classes have a nice little pull that they can use to get enemies off of the high-end spots and down to the death pits below.

As for the PvP aspect: Enemy players are not your friends. They’re there, preventing you from getting that shinny chest at the end of the puzzle. Why? Because there’s siege blueprints inside. Denying you those blueprints is helping their server win at WvWvW (though some people think otherwise, it is just known fact).

Excuse me if I’m wrong, but don’t they have skins related to the Flame&Frost even by the Black Lion Chests? And aren’t those random enough for me to despise them because I’ve opened over 20+ chests and haven’t gotten one of them…yes and yes.

The failed aspect of F&F, must read.

in Flame and Frost

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

Must read what? The improperly spaced paragraph(s)?

As for what you think is “failed”, it’s not really. These characters are introduced as pawn pieces to drive the story. I’m sure they’ll eventually be added in for future content. This is to say that Braham being Eire’s son is a big deal, just as Rox being a semi-apprentice to Rytlock is as well.

Take note that this isn’t the “final mission” of those two NPC characters, but instead it’s that of the player’s. We the players have been doing missions like saving villages, destroying periscopes, killing members of the Molten Alliance, finding lost trinkets, and even translating spy drop messages. This will be our final fighting push against the Molten Alliance as we raid (not in the instance sense, but more the police bashing down your door sense) their weapon’s facility to destroy their creations.

New dungeon temporary or permanent?

in Flame and Frost

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

This has been asked 100,000 times. It’s limited time, temorary. Once the F&F content is gone, the dungeon goes with it.

Is it required?

in Living World

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

When the storyline for Flame and Frost ends, the Flame and Frost content will go away.

Why?

No, seriously, why?

Why remove content some/many enjoy and many haven’t completed, especially forced-group content that some people will have trouble getting done in limited time?

Why?

Because it’s called “Living World”, not “Static World”. Once a story ends, it’s gone, the story is ended. It’s the same reason that the Ancient Karka can no longer invade Lion’s Arch, because we killed him back in November and his body is laying encased in a lava-hardened shell at the bottom of the nest in Southsun Cove; the same reason why the Lion’s Arch fountain is whole and Mad King isn’t popping out of it any more. This game has living parts which come, and then go. If you miss it, too bad.

inspired by dontain ^^

ps sorry for bad english

That doesn’t get them extra money. All that does is loses them money by giving away stuff they’re trying to make money off of for free. Why would they do that? I mean, they’re currently doing that now for the SAB for those that want to farm it for select things (Zommoros crystals and Super Fun Boxes, for example). That’s basically good charity towards the players on some things, but the rest is staying the store to sell it. Your methods and ideas….that brings them nothing; no new money or anything. You’re basically asking them to shut down the Gem store. Why?!

Hello,
just to say I appreciated to be able to do the instances in solo.

I had like to see more of this (solo instances) and even applied to the original dungeons. Or even better, adapt the difficulty based on the number of team members (be it 1).

Imarion

1) No.

2) Not going to happen.

3) Social game, some grouping required.

4) Dungeons = groups :: Dynamic Events, Personal Story, & Hearts = solo content.

5) Wasted development time to try to make group based content balanced for individual play (balancing mobs, in-dungeon puzzles, rewards, etc.).

6) MMORPG = Massive MULTIPLAYER Online Role Playing Game. MMORPG =/= Massive Singleplayer Online Role Playing Game. (That’s why there are single player RPG’s such as Skyrim, The Witcher, Mass Effect, and so on. )

Please, stop asking for raids.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

Raiding does not have to be attached to gear progression in the old mindset (addition of stat gain) but instead can be rewarded with visual gear progression (ANet’s basis of the game, anyways).

The holy trinity, while a good basis of design from a raiding conceptual standpoint, is not required for creating a raid scenario. We already see this in open world bosses (although a bad example, because 100% of them are a complete faceroll and nearly impossible to wipe on).

Appropriate rewards on a downscaling system? You are kittening high. I have never got ONE piece of good loot from doing low areas. EVER.

At the end of the day, I paid my 60 dollars to this company, so who are you to tell me what or what I shouldn’t want in the game. Just because raiding is in a game doesn’t mean you have to do it, AKA it’s optional. Just like every jumping puzzle, every dynamic event, every legendary weapon, and every dungeon in the game.

Since so many people are asking for it (hence you had to make this thread) don’t you think it would be in ANet’s better interest to satiate their customers?

The answer is a flat faced: NO! Just because a kid stops his feet, shouts, and cries, that doesn’t mean that his mommy should buy him the candy bar.

A.Net has a set objective to the design of this game, a set audience that they’re aiming. Neither of those have the idea of Instanced Raiding in mind. If people want that kind of thing, good on them….they just have to go to another game to get it. It’s not in this game, nor is it expected to be. To continually request the game change it’s design an absurd, rude gesture that’s equivalent to spitting in the developer’s face.

So yes, you paid $60 for this game AS IT IS. You did NOT pay $60 to try to dictate how the developers create the game.

P.S. Yes, to those that have tried coming out with the Merriam Webster Dictionary, I know this game has raiding. I was referring to the continued requests to add in “Raids”, as in the 10,20,30,40-man group instanced fights against 1,000,000,000HP mobs for ‘phat lutz’. And what I would refer the Dragon Generals as…not so much “raids” as large-scale Dynamic Events (same goes for the Priest Temples in Arah).

Please, stop asking for raids.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

This game is not raid oriented.

This game has no tank, healer, DPS set up “Holy Trinity”.

This game’s ‘End Game’ is not designed around gear grinding for micro stat changing piece after piece.

There is no ‘End Game’ based on how this game is ever evolving with it’s Living Story and how a level 80 (max) player can still experience all the lower leveled content, with appropriate rewards, based on a down-scaling system.

This game has tons of content for players to enjoy at max level with the list to include*: world exploration, jumping puzzles, WvWvW, sPvP, dungeons, Fractals, mini-dungeons, economy trading, Keg Brawl, Costume Brawling, dynamic events, guild missions, and more. *(Mentioned is permanent content, not including this month’s SAB each other month’s Living Story content).

So, please, stop asking for Raiding or ‘End Game content’ based on your definition of what that may be. This game is not about that in the least and will not change it’s direction just to appease to the crowds that like that sort of thing. There are many, many other games out there that have their exact goal to be Raiding as to what the players aim for; you’re more than welcome to go play one of those game. But this game will still be here, still be what it is, and still be enjoyable to those that want something different.
