I doubt that will be the case at all. Instead, I’m thinking that the content patch will be 50/50 split in player support of one candidate or another. This is similar to what they did for Secrets of Southsun, which did the same thing when players either supported the Refugees or the Consortium.

The over all choice of candidate and the outcome of what events follow, are already set in motion and won’t change based on player interaction (nor will anything else within 2013, a mapped out plan already set way back in March).

Do you realize they did sell this game in Hong Kong?

I know they sell pirated games at street vendors in China as well. My point? None of the retailers in Hong Kong are “official”. A.Net has yet to launch or ship in China. Just because some businesses imported it to that country to sell to people, doesn’t mean that the product creators support that.

What A.Net HAS done in that region was the Closed Beta between May 2nd through May 9th, which was supported by regionally set up servers.

This is a competitive event. There is certainly no harm in helping other players, but to let people win in a competitive is absurd. An achievement is only an achievement if you achieve it. If you need to have it handed to you, whats the point?

^You stole the words right out of my mouth. An achievement is something that is achieved, is indeed the best way to describe it.

But, more to the point is that this Achievement also comes with a Title. Isn’t is absurd that someone goes trotting along showcasing a title -the same title you worked your buns off to get 1st Place for- without ever really earning the thing at all? This is some person who is, with lack of a better work, unskilled at this particular part of the game; yet this person is getting the reward (achievement point) and fame (title) for something they should not have.

Anyone familiar with people who kick party members on the last boss of dungeons/fractals, only to invite their guildmate to come in and get credit, rewards, and completion for daily (or whatever)? Ya, this is very similar in case. ….very, very similar.

Zero – The O in MMO stands for you need a decent connection to the internet. It’s like you’re complaining about how quiet the opera is with earplugs in, or acting confused as to why it’s so hard to pedal your bike with flat tires.

And Sylv! You should not be playing these games if you’re disabled in such a manner. Diabetics shouldn’t slam carbs, either.

This thread dumbfounds me.

This is very low and greatly disrespectful! Does it say on the box of the game that if you have problem with their fps network or eye issues not to play this game? Games are for every one and I totally agree with this person. Their network not being that good. My friend who play with me is from Europe and the lag for her is horrible I can even see her having spike lag movement on my side and remember when Karka decided to invade Lion Arch… Anyway you sir or mam should consider learning some manners and respect toward other people situation. One day you will have health issue like everyone and think how you will feel if someone tell you such a think toward something you want to live and have the right like anybody else.

YES!, It does state on the box…

“Broadband Internet Connection Required”
(which is clearly a ‘stable’ connection, and this game isn’t distributed or supported in Hong Kong , an area the OP is in)

And on the installation manual it reads:

* Photosensitive Seizures
SEIZURE WARNING—Please read before playing the Product or allowing your children to use it.

Some people are susceptible to seizures or lose of consciousness when exposed to certain flashing lights, flashing images, or light patterns in everyday life.

Such people may have a seizure while watching television images, playing certain video games, or when exposed to certain light patterns, flashing lights, or flashing images. This may happen even if the person has no medical history of seizure or epliepsy, or has never had any seizures. If you or anyone in your family has an epileptic condition or has ever had symptoms related to epilepsy (seizures or lose of consciousness) when exposed to flashing lights or patterns, consult your doctor prior to playing.

Symptoms of seizures include: dizziness, lightheadedness, altered vision, jerking or shaking of the extremities, loss of awareness, confusion, twitching, disorientation, or full convulsions. Convulsions can lead to other injuries by causing an individual to fall off a chair and/or strike objects nearby.

If you experience any of the aforementioned symptoms of a seizure while playing. STOP PLAYING AND CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY. Parents should ensure their children are not experiencing symptoms.

Precautions to take during use:
* Avoid playing if you are tired or have not had much sleep.
* Make sure that the room in which you are playing is well lit.
* Rest for at least 10 to 15 minutes per hour while playing the Product.
* Do not stand too close to the screen.
* Sit at a good distance away from the screen, as far away as the length of the cable permits.

With that warning (which is NOT a copy-paste, but a read off from the actual physical manual), and the one about the connection, …oh, and want another additional informational piece: https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9184/kw/region

There will be 3 major regional designations for the release of Guild Wars 2:

Europe: Defined as Western Europe and Eastern Europe. Players in these regions connect to the European datacenter.
North America: Defined as Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Players in these regions connect to the North American datacenter.
Other: Players in countries not listed above will connect to the North American datacenter.

With all that….there should be no point to this thread at all. I’m sorry, but this is a VISUAL VIDEO GAME and it’s played ONLINE through US SERVERS.

Precursors: Why so rare?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

Given that the remaining overall investment of a Legendary item still ranges between 300 to 500 gold, why is it that a Precursor is still so very rare to cause the excessive price hikes?

Wow that’s a long question. Sorry about that. But, it’s still my point. For those that have been playing this game since November of last year; and recall the “handout” of Precursors during the Karka event. Don’t you wish that would happen every month or two? It flooded the market with them, yet still had enough rarity were it was averaged 40-200g each one.

Cost for Precursors run right now between 45g (for a Focus that nearly nobody uses) and 700g (for something like The Legend). But, most average about 250g price.

And because this price, they’re current a monopoly being manipulated by those that have accumulated large amounts of gold. See, those who have/had a Precursor worth 400 gold can -and have- sink nearly 1/2 that back in to Mystic Forge to pop out another one to sell again. This is a never-ending cycle.

My general stance is that A.Net should forgo their plans for “Scavenger Hunt” and just increase the drop rate of Precursors to that of other world dropped exotic weapons. Same table and all. In fact, many have completely abandoned Legendary weapon on the eve of Achievement obtained Zenith weapons. For those people, Zeniths have a more ‘legendary’ look than many of the Legendary weapons and a far, far, FAR cheaper cost too.

The stupid things we do in game.

Begging for Mesmer Portals in JP's

Hello!

I just had to endure two people crying for a mesmer for their JP for the better half of an hour.

Mind=Blown

When I questioned why this guy was so eager to complete this JP he replied with “For the achievement, so I can get skins and gear”.

/facepalm

A completionist that wants it on a silver platter.

The reason I’m posting this is so I can A ) Share this thorn in my eye and B ) So I can pose the question, isn’t this incredibly counter-productive? On one side you’ve got the developers and they’re faulty for letting this happen and on the other side, the players in question that would rather fuss and cry for an hour over doing the puzzle themselves.

That’s been going on since launch. It really bugs me and I have been very voicturous on my server about people that are just going in to the puzzle to be ported, without any real effort at all on their parts.

But…
You want to know what really is mind blowing?

 • People during the new Sanctum Sprint begging/demanding that the 1st Place person “hold back” and allow others to cross the finish line to get the achievement so “everyone can get it”.

Really?! I mean, COME ON! It’s a race. It’s very poor sportsmanship to throw the race just so someone can “win” it, when in reality they aren’t winning anything. If they can’t get first place, then tough luck. They haven’t achieved anything, so an Achievement should not be awarded.

What with all the jumping puzzles , not to mention characters and dialogue straight out of a Bugs Bunny cartoon.

What happened to evil , dark things .Enough of the candy floss for kiddies please , lets get back to what this games about and stop making it disney-fied.

1) They’re trying to mix the updates on and off about being both lighthearted and seriously toned. F&F= serious, dark tone; SAB = fun, light toned; Southsun = serious, dark again; Dragon Bash = fun things (though still overall serious tone, AND a Quake-style mini game too); Sky Pirates = very dark (started with a murder!, sheesh); Bazaar = light toned, fun, but still has dark parts (mainly the artifacts that more or less summon demonic creatures).

2) Jumping Puzzles and the like are far more mature than mindless killing. This is because they take keen hand-eye coordination and patience, something that’s completely lacking in the young generations.

3) It’s a video game, it’s about things that are fun and enjoyable. Seeing someone’s guts torn inside out in a dark, gritty way is NOT enjoyable; racing in a throwback to Mario Cart against other players to the top of a mountain IS enjoyable. But, to each their own….

No Zenith Gear for Engineers

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

According to dulfy’s latest update there will be no Zenith weapons available for Engineers. No pistols, no rifles, no shields. I understand this is just in the first 3000AP, but why should literally every other profession have access to a Zenith wep at only 1000AP (and another at 2000) while we are left with nothing? dulfy also has screenshots and video of apparently every weapon, including pistol, rifle, and shield from her beta. How many AP do I need for those?

The problem with dedicating a weapon for an Engineer is that 9 times out of 10 an Engineer isn’t using said weapon. Engineers more or less use their kits all the time. Those kits replace their weapons. It’s the same reason why, as an Engineer, it would be foolish to go for a Legendary weapon.

Too much focus on Mini-games

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

Why so much focus on minigames? My problem with minigames are:

 • They’re not so mini anymore. They’re taking the spotlight AND entire maps just for them.

Mini-games have always taken entire maps since the very beginning. There was Reaper’s Rumble, Snowball Fights, Inquisition, Dragon Ball, Crab Toss. Each has it’s own instanced map.

Sure the Sanctum Sprint is larger than those, but it’s also a giant race. A small race would be bad.

 • They are taking resources that could go into the ACTUAL game. And that’s a fact either you like minigames or not. While mini games crop up left and right, the rest of the game is mostly neglected, especially the open world.

Most of the models in Sanctum Sprint are used in the Zephrum and Cliffs area, so that was an easy transition. And, it uses the same mechanics as those with the addition of a few more (traps). Overall, it’s not that much extra effort to make it in addition to the main show.

This goes same for the Belcher’s Bluff, which is using an already existing mechanic from the Whispers story line. All they did was add a few NPC’s to the game, some lines of dialog, achievement points, and make the mechanic permanent. Bam!

Oh, and other aspects of the game are NOT being neglected. They added a whole reward system for Achievements, added new WvW Mastery types, added a new sPvP map, quite a few balance changes, and even dungeon tweaks (to close exploits). All in this same patch.

 • They’re usually clunky and have rough edges.

Sanctum Sprint is very polished and not rough at all. The only issue I’ve had was a few times that the #3 lightning aspect wouldn’t flip to trigger when standing on a pad near a retrieving spire. That’s it. The rest of the time, it’s a smooth, fun thing to do that I wish was in more (it’s a throwback to Mario Cart!).

 • They’re usually not fun.
<See above where I say it is fun.>

But, that’s a matter of opinion for YOU. My guild has a blast in these mini-games. Everyone loved Dragon Ball, but only the AFK players ticked us off (a community fault, not the game). I enjoy the mini-games, which are fun, and am only eagerly awaiting the return of Reaper’s Rumble in a couple months when Halloween happens again.

 • Even if they were polished and fun, this is not the game I paid for. I want a “different MMO” not a a lame attempt at other simple gaming genres

If you want a different game, by all means GO PLAY A DIFFERENT GAME! That’s not being rude, that’s just going exactly by your own words. You paid for Guild Wars 2 of what launched with the box (1-80, personal story, WvW, sPvP, and Zhaitan). These Living Story updates are FREE CONTENT made by the developers for the enjoyment of the player base. You don’t pay for them, you’re not making them, so you have no say for them to stop or not.

*On an added personal note: I love that they try to incorporate non-combat patches every so often beyond just these combat-heavy ones. S.P.o.T. was all-combat about defeating Aetherblades, same with Dragon Bash on it’s defeating the minion holograms (and even Dragon Ball was an all combat mini-game). Bazaar of the Four Winds is not about combat in the least, it would seem, as instead players are finding cargo drops (without mobs in them…yay!), crystal hunting, finding kites in the world, racing each other, watching a pompous Quaggan breath fire, trading old crafting mat stockpiles, and just generally having a good time. There is some combat stuff such as the Artifact mobs, but that’s optionally random.

Too Much Temporary Content Can Only Harm GW2

TL:DR Section Below!
<clip>
TL:DR
Video Version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5SIPOg_sLQ
Temporary content, reguardless of the quality, would be better off being permentant so as not to alienate new and returning Guild Wars 2 players

I’m sorry to have to say this, but “new and returning GW2 players” should be second class to current, ACTIVELY PLAYING Guild Wars 2 players. Why? Because those are the people that are going to be spending $$ on the Quaggan mini-pack (guilty), the other Gem Store items, and play the content as it comes out.

Hypothetical-Situation:

Should someone playing their first day in WoW automatically get Blizzcon pets from every year for the past 5 years, as well as TCG items, tabards from the opening of BC? Or, should that person just see others who were there, who attended, who earned those by playing at that time, and envy them? Not only envy them, but make it a goal to strive for other event-based items that they can obtain to tout about in the future, knowing that others who see it won’t be able to get again.

So do you see my point? These one-time temporary events, which give a very interesting and lively story, are a reward to players who currently enjoy the game that A.Net continually produces for THEM, the ACTIVE CUSTOMERS. Those on the sidelines aren’t getting anything just as those not visiting Disneyland aren’t able to enjoy the rides, like those that didn’t attend a Y2K party won’t get the tee-shirt that everyone else did. Static games are single player games. MMO’s are living things. This one, GW2, is the liveliest of them all; so lively that events can be missed.

Overly Sensitive "Political Correctness"?

Siphaed.9235

There are a number of arguable practical reasons, like that there’s a second definition of “outmanned” that involves the other party being more masculine rather than more numerous, and that the game isn’t human-centric, but with that said…

Why was this change so important?

If it in fact isn’t an important distinction, why not err on the side of trying not to hurt people’s feelings?

It’s kind of illogical to state that the wording doesn’t matter in a thread complaining about a change to it. If it doesn’t matter, then who cares? If you care, then apparently it matters on some level.

That being the case, isn’t sensitivity generally preferable to insensitivity, especially when it’s an easy change?

Because if they changed every tiny thing that hurt some person’s -or group of people- feelings, it would leave us with absolutely nothing. Everything would be censored and we’d see nothing but a big black bar….oh wait, that might offend someone, nix the black bar. Just leave a blank space instead.

The base definition of man:

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/man

c : a bipedal primate mammal (Homo sapiens) that is anatomically related to the great apes but distinguished especially by notable development of the brain with a resultant capacity for articulate speech and abstract reasoning, is usually considered to form a variable number of freely interbreeding races, and is the sole living representative of the hominid family; broadly : any living or extinct hominid

That’s what the definition means when you say something like “mankind” and “human”. It an overall broadened term towards all on Earth, no matter sex, race, creed, religion, or whatever. We are all man. It’s the fault of other individuals if they interpret a singular piece of a word, and decide to take it out of context to read it as something it’s not.

Outmanned = There are more of those bi-peddle enemies than your team. There’s no definition of sex within that statement, nor should some be thinking it’s “politically incorrect” when they read it out of context (i.e. wrong).

Overly Sensitive "Political Correctness"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

Why are people overly politically correct?

 • The Outmanned buff has been renamed to Outnumbered

Why was this change so important? I know as of late there have been states that have changed their constitutions, to even the US Government changing many law bills so that words with “man” in them are changed around.

What’s next? Are we going to replace the term “mankind” with “peoplekind”? How about “humans” just being completely replaced with “Earthlings”?

Temporary content, achievements, and OCD

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

I quit last year sometime after the Karka event, I’m back and I noticed I missed 4 or 5 temporary events that I can’t complete the achievements for. From what I heard Anet does this to bring players back in.

So, what’s the point? Collecting achievements is about completeness but I’m unable to complete them in the first place. I could even go back to GW1 and start grinding achievements for Hall of Monuments in GW2.

This is very discouraging for new players and returning players, does anyone else feel the same?

1) It’s nobody’s fault but your own that you missed those events. However, this is no different than real life when an event like a rock concert is missed, or the Jannet Jackson showing nipple at the Super Bowl (Achievement: Wardrobe Malfunction), which are one-time events that will not happen again. If missed, they are tough luck situations.

2) GW2 is unlike other games on the market. Living World does not mean static world. These bits are a changing story that comes and goes in new chapters. However, after those chapters are read, they are burned (so to speak). Some of the charred pieces remain such as statues, monuments, and world landmarks, but the meat of it is ashes from which the next chapter is born like a phoenix.

My opinion is that I disagree with you. I love this game. I like how it’s so unique and different than every other clone out there on the market. Those other games can have their additional raid every 4 months, 3 additional dungeons every couple of months, and the emptiness of content that’s less than 6 years old. This game, the older content keeps getting refreshed, traveled, and enjoyed. This is stacked upon by the very fun Living Story content.

A commemorative mini is my vote. The mini would be a Quaggan (choice of pink or blue) that’s wearing a birthday hat and blows a horn every so often.

And all of Lion’s Arch is going to be in decoration, with Charr pinatas around every corner for people to bash in with a stick.

Those asking for “precursers”, get real. It’s an ultra super rare item for a reason, as are Legendary weapons. To ask for handouts is just…it’s just….wrong.

100% guild rep VS part time rep.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

My wife and I have our own private guild to share bank space, and I have no desire to join another guild, so my opinion may or may not matter to you.

When I am working at my job, I have to do what my bosses tell me. There’s a direct supervisor, another supervisor who oversees several lesser supervisors, the head of the office, etc. They get to tell me what to do, and in return I get a paycheck every two weeks.

When I play a game, I’m there to enjoy playing the game. I paid for it, and no one is paying me to play the game. Therefore I am going to do what I want, and that includes group activities. If a guild requires me to do something I don’t want to do, then I’m not going to be a member of that guild.

Boom! Fantastic, and to the best description ever on why most guilds are major pains in the rear. A guild should just be a group of like minded players who ban together to do like minded things within the game. They shouldn’t be serving commands of a guild leader (boss), supervisors (officers), and whatever else for whatever reason.

Worse off are those guild leaders who feel the need to be condescending to members, treating them like children who can’t think for themselves. Usually those are the screamers when it comes to a VOIP server at any event that has a margin of error, failure, or unsatisfactory outcome. And, both those guild leaders (if they’re not the same personality anyways) will always blame the members of the guild for failure instead of honing up to their own responsibility.

There are some fun guilds in this game though. Guilds that have pantsless parades, holiday potion runs, random costume brawls, and the kind of fun stuff that’s beyond tedious grinding of CoF for some coin.

Scrapped. The real, truly dedicated players actually play the game, thus more resources dedicated to something within the game is better than something outside it. Something like this may come down the line far, far from now, but it would seem that they mostly rely on 3rd party ones made by players though the API releases.

Lifetime account

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

Other games have offered lifetime membership for around $200. They had subscriptions then moved to a F2P model. When that happened they gave their members the equivalent of ‘gems’ per month to equate to what their sub would have cost. For example, if GW2 cost $15 per month to play, a lifetime member would have been given $15 in gems per month for the life of the game.

If you could pay $200 now and get $15 per month in gems for the life of the game, would you pay it? It would take just over 13 months to start seeing a profit from your investment but from there on in you’d be better off if you were a regular gems purchaser.

It’s a silly idea. Basically every game that’s offered a “lifetime subscription”, that I’ve seen, has either gone completely Free2Play or has gone bye-bye (shutdown). Most of the time, especially when it comes to STO and Champions Online, what they’re doing is giving the Lifetime subscribers those same benefits as subscribing. Even in their “F2P” state, they still charge for things that would more or less be an essential feature of the game. Those who got the Lifetime perk are getting what they’d get normally from the game via subscription, while everyone else gets a watered down product that won’t allow for everything without more $$.

GW2 is a completely different beast all together. We players get most everything out of the box. The gem store is convenience and fluff items only. Do you want more than 5 character slots? Find, cough up the gold or pay a bit to support the game…but pay it once, not every month either. Same for if you want mini-pets, extra boosts, or flashy town cloths. All fluff, no core. Those other games sell features like character customization, class creation (see Champions on Archtypes), chat access, mail access, and even resource gathering. That’s what they’re giving those Livetime subscribers…access to core features that are locked out to F2P gamers.

Your scenario is a moot point and wouldn’t work. Because it’s basically asking for free stuff beyond 14 months from a gem store that helps support a far greater content update cycle than those other games that went for the quick-buck choice. As above, the gem store in GW2 is way different than what those other F2P convert games are selling in their stores….they’re selling the basics of the game, GW2 already did that when you buy the box, the rest is fluff.

Thank you for your time and effort put into the Live Stream, but I do feel it was bit for not. The wiki page wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World_versus_World explains it all in one for newbs, so does the in-game pop ups and NPC’s right near the WvW portals.

Most of the people that went into the Live Stream were WvW vets who had expected some mention of what’s to come as far as changes. There are several issues with WvW that need directly addressed with either a “Yes, we’re looking into changing/fixing this” or “Nope, working as intended”. Please inform Colin, or whoever is doing the State-of-Game at the end of July that we WvW players would like answers to many of the questions (posted above) that are bugging us. Thank you.

When we decided to make Guild Wars 2, we wanted to make something unique and different; we didn’t want to make the same MMO you’ve been playing for all these years. As a live game, we want to continue to build on that goal, to take the core concepts that inspired GW2 from the start and see if we can push the boundaries and explore even further what they can mean in the MMO space.

1) What was the design decision behind an AoE cap, and do you feel that decision needs to be reversed as a way to deter “zerg” tactics and make small groups as useful as you’d mentioned they’d be in the beta of the game prior to launch?

2) What is the point of “water gates” on certain keeps (Bay, South & East Eternal Battleground keeps), when none of these are useful tactically because siege cannot attack them? Are there plans for underwater rams or other siege to be able to attack these points?

3) Will there be any adjustment to time-synched waypoint ‘flash mobs’ to Keeps and Garrisons for defenders? (e.g. when someone is dead inside, and on TS, they can read the “Defend Your Land” dynamic event timer, and inform the other teammates to spam the waypoint when it’s on the last 5sec, and it gets everyone in within the split few secs before it flips the timer over back again)

4) Are there any additional maps currently in the works, and if so when (broad scope) are they expected to be player-ready?

5) In PvE I can kill 5 world bosses in about 1hrs play, racking up 5 rare items. In WvW, we can take a tower and possibly a keep in that time frame (not counting the 4-6 supply camps and field skirmish battles), but maybe see 1 rare item if lucky. Are there any plans to fix the disparity in loot to make WvW more like PvE other than Rank Chests?

6) After the addition of WXP to the game, players (and commanders giving the map orders, especially) have been far less inclined to defend anything, but instead go on a carefully planned route that circles the map, hitting up not only camps, small (undefended towers), ignores larger targets, and hit every NPC DE on the map (i.e. Warg, Ice Worm, Harpy, Centaur). Any plans to remove WXP from the PvE mobs in-game? If not, any changes to discourage these “farming routes”?

7) What, if any, are the plans to improve Commander status and/or encourage more than just a single one on the map?

8) Any plans to expand the weather nodes effects beyond just random lightning strikes against the enemy players and siege?

9) Why doesn’t Spread Shot, a rank gained Ballista ability, arch downward like all other Ballista shots?

10) It’s been around 8 months since Orbs have been removed, and we know they aren’t coming back, but has a suitable replacement mechanic been devised or even worked on?

Yesterday I got some 20 Ectos out of just 9 rares. Awesome luck! Just…awesome!

using black lion or master’s salvage kit ?

Black Lion. Have had quite a few stacks from daily bonuses (yay!) as well as one from a chest that an alt got a key for. Masters is a less chance every time I use it at about 1/3rd less Ectos compared to Black Lion ones.

Design Philosophy: Then and Now

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Siphaed.9235

I really like alot of things about Guild Wars 2.
I believe it managed to successfully stand out amidst the concept of MMO.
I particularly like the style of the world, art and UI.
I like the semi-targetless system and dodge.

Still, alot of it feels unpolished, but I won’t get into details here.
Instead, I want to voice my concerns on ANet’s current design philosophy, comparing to their claims in the Guild Wars 2 Manifesto Trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35BPhT-KI1E

Everything ANet said in the Manifesto was spot on what I wanted to see in an MMO, but they seem to have gone the opposite direction on some of it.
a) “Guild Wars 2 takes everything you love about Guild Wars 1, and puts it into a persistent world.”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35BPhT-KI1E#t=0m48s
I greatly disagree here. Apart from the world, Lore and nomenclature of game systems, most of GW1 is gone.
GW1 was greatly renowned for its extreme customizability.
You could effectively build your equipment exactly the way you wanted; you could play around with builds anytime; there was no gear treadmill and no one missed it.
There was very little randomness in combat.
There was no trash loot – everything was either useful for crafting, or for collectors.
Your superiority over someone else was mostly defined by your skill and strategy, not gear.
GW2 threw away alot of great, solid concepts from GW1 to – apparently – meet halfway with popular MMO standards.

b) “In most games, you go out, and you have really fun tasks – occasionally – that you need to do, and the rest of the game is this boring grind to get to the fun stuff. I swung a sword, I swung a sword again, hey, I swung it again, that’s great. We just don’t want players to grind in GW2.”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35BPhT-KI1E#t=1m26s
Isn’t that exactly what we do when we get to max level?
We repeat the same content endlessly for the sake of obtaining certain items.
In fact, isn’t the Magic Find stat proof that you intend players to grind?

c) “As a structure, the MMO has lost its ability to make the player feel like a hero. Everybody around you is doing the same thing you’re doing, the boss you just killed respawns 10 minutes later. It doesn’t care that I’m there.”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35BPhT-KI1E#t=1m46s
Isn’t this precicely what happens throughout the whole game?
The same enemy, boss or event repeating every 5-20 minutes?
The process of retaking or defending a point should take longer, last longer and be alot more worthwhile.

Furthermore, the personal story makes you feel like something of a hero for a little while, but in the end the true Hero is Trehearne.
He’s the one who does everything worth mentioning, and then just tells you “he couldn’t have done it without you.”
I didn’t feel like a hero at all in the last half of the personal story.
—-

I think the game has a great potential and I hope ANet keeps up at full steam.

1) What you, personally loved about GW1 isn’t exactly what others loved about it. Though I must counter your points, first in saying that GW2 is extremely customizable thanks to transmutation stones, skins, and just a lot of set pieces for each armor class. The equipment and/or spec can be built however you want it, to suit whatever you want (effective or not). There’s very little randomness in this game’s combat, it’s mostly skill/movement (though crits are random, but that’s every game). Trash loot = coin. This is also an MMO, not like GW1, which was not (even the devs have said that), so trash loot is a given. Gear isn’t a measure of superiority in this game. Not sure if you know it or not, but this game has a gear plateau that caps off, where everyone is even (and I’ve seen level 60 characters beat level 80 Exotic decked ones in WvW, so..ya).

2) Um, not sure if you’re paying attention, but the Living Story isn’t the same content. There’s new content every two weeks. And no, you’re not just “swing a sword”, there’s many other things to do and go about participating in; if a player is just swinging a sword at the same mob over and over again, that’s their choice, but not their only option.

3) Back to what I said in pt#2, the Living Story adds new content to complete every few weeks. Besides that, there are literally hundreds to thousands of Dynamic Events in the game’s world that players can participate in (but I guess you’re wanting to only do the ones with “phat loots”, which is hypocritical of pt#1) Also, if you’ve noticed for WvW, they’ve added and are adding a lot more Mastery Ranks and other features to help flesh it out so that control and fights last far longer than it has in the past.

4) Everyone hates Trehearn, EVERYONE. There’s not a being alive who likes that selfish twig. But, the personal story isn’t the end-all for PvE, as seen by the Living Story (with characters like Rox, Marjory, and Canach).

Is GW2 moving away from PvE?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Siphaed.9235

Whenever you see any streaming interviews or updates by Anet, it always seems to be focused on WvW or PvP. The recent major nerf to rangers was done because they are too strong in PvP, so those in PvE got hit hard (no, I don’t run a ranger, just the easiest example).

The recent state of the game on Twitch glossed over PvE, as will the upcoming discussion. The upcoming one is on WvW.

Other than the Living Story content (which contains major WvW and PvP changes) it seems like everything is focused away from PvE. Any class balancing seems to be geared away from PvE as well.

I don’t have a problem with WvW or PvP, but Anet, if you are going to change things to fit that, please separate them from PvE so we who prefer it, can play OUR game, without worrying about our professions or playstyle. I went from other games that did worldwide PvP to GW2. You say you want to make it so that we can play together. That we don’t need to compete with each other unless we want to. Then you go and focus so much on the PvP/WvW/esports idea that you force us into builds and actions that suit THEM, rather than us.

If this game is going to go to PvP/WvW while forgetting PvE, many of us are going to be looking in other directions. And that is sad, because it is such a great game.

This thread is entirely /facepalm material.

-Super Adventure Box, anyone?

-Secrets of Southsun, anyone?

-Dragon Bash, anyone?

-Sky Pirates of Tyria (/ Aetherblade Retreat), anyone?

-Bazaar of the Four Winds, anyone?

-Living Story, hello?

All the content updates have been mainly focused on PvE, with the WvW/sPvP stuff as sort of side-updates. They’re updating all aspects of the game. The reason some of their FRIDAY Live Streams are focused on PvP/WvW lately is because their MONDAY Live Streams are all about the new PvE content (see the last two as great examples).

Long term we’ll absolutely be adding more activities as well, but we want to make sure we’ve got loads of stuff to do at level 80 in PvP, WvW, and PvE

8 months after and we still dont have ANYTHING new in PvE except a new JP and fractals…

And the NPC brawling guild that wanders around Tyria….

And the Skritt Thief that also wanders around, stealing things….

And the 6-13 new Dynamic Events on Southsun Cove…

And the daily Laurels system…

And Guild Missions, including Rush, Trek, Puzzle, Bounty, and Challenge…

And Moa Racing…

And (coming Tuesday) Belcher’s Bluff….

And (coming Tuesday) Achievement rewards system…

And Living Story chapters at a constant, no-gap rate…

Might want to look up what “don’t have anything” means, because it’s a false statement when you paired it with new PvE content.

Can we please have less "Particle" Armor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

I want the option to completely remove particle effects when you customize armor since all the new armor seems to have it all over the place, it makes it so its almost impossible to combine with other pieces of armor which IMO is one of the reasons I bought the game: Customization.

Why have all new sets of gear if its impossible to combine with the older gear? It simply does not make any sense.

COF Armor would be great for example, if I could either color the fire to green or blue and then get the option to completely remove it. So would the dredge armor.

Citadel of FLAME is fire gear themed at the Fire Legion. These “particle effects”, as you so call them, are fire…red fire. Changing their color won’t make sense. If you don’t like the set, there are many others out there that look differently and some don’t even have particle effects/glow at all.

What problem you have is that you got the CoF set, which in my opinion looks as ugly as a Skritt’s behind, and can’t seem to combine it with anything to make it look good. That’s more or less a problem with that set, not the new gear pieces or particle pieces.

Why is everything a “treadmill” to people?! Gameplay is FUN, not some “treadmill” that you think is just something of repetitive steps. If you aren’t getting enjoyment of it and find it to be a “treadmill” as you describe, then please stop playing it. Clearly you find it to be a tedious task that isn’t enjoyable. Video games are about enjoyment. Right now, GW2 is the most enjoyable game out there for me (and I’m not alone in that assessment.

So, find what’s fun in the game, cut out what’s not. If it’s all not fun for you, JUST STOP PLAYING! Simple.

Temporary content working against GW2 [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Siphaed.9235

I would much rather wait 3 months for 3 different dungeons than have 12 different Living Stories that are temporary and doesn’t add anything new to the game when they’re gone.

Then this game is not for you. Period. If you don’t like it, move to a different one. This isn’t a game that adds dungeon after dungeon after dungeon, raid after raid after raid, and add more power creeping gear to those.

This game is about it’s world Dynamic Events, and the Living Story, which are essentially Meta Dynamic Events that are on-time. In fact, this is what many fans asked for pre-release while the game was in production; that is something that A.Net said they wanted to do. Not just keep adding and removing one or two Dynamic Events per zone, but instead having a larger Dynamic Event that’s participated by the players during a set time, and never happens again. That is what the Living Story is!

I have to quote this again:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/living-world-in-guild-wars-2/

Final Thoughts: Hello (Living) World

When we decided to make Guild Wars 2, we wanted to make something unique and different; we didn’t want to make the same MMO you’ve been playing for all these years. As a live game, we want to continue to build on that goal, to take the core concepts that inspired GW2 from the start and see if we can push the boundaries and explore even further what they can mean in the MMO space.”

You want something like another MMO has. That’s fine, but GO PLAY THAT OTHER MMO. Don’t demand that GW2 change what it is to something it’s not just to be like something else.

Temporary content working against GW2 [Merged]

Siphaed.9235

Please stop with the temporary content!

You might be thinking “We are keeping old players in the game.” but that way you are also “locking new players out” and “sending quitted players away”.

A player who left sometime near launch and is thinking of rejoining, will dreadfully realize that “not much content have been? added (besides pvp stuff), despite the gigantic patches”

A new player who is thinking of joining, will be told “There was a lot of story behind this the latest content, but you have to read about it on a wiki to catch up”.

In this forum we are all GW2 players, so it’s hard to get to that mindset…
…but the idea of Temporary content can actually be an obstacle for people in the process of deciding whether they should join/rejoin the game.

Also, its a big pain when for whatever reason you are in a situation that you can play for a long period of time. (exams, vacations away from home, job, being drafted for military service, being temporary occupied with a new other game).
I’m currently struggling to keep up with all the temporary stuff wille studding for my exams, getting ready for my 2 week travel in Germany and playing Dragons Dogma on my PS3, and if for whatever reason I have to stay away for some long period of time, getting back won’t be an easy choice for me, since I know there won’t be much new stuff to come back to…

Your opinion is wrong. Sorry, but it’s true. The developers, who know best of the game, find that the Living Story temp content updates are helping the game and pushing it forwards with it’s own unique thing in the MMO genre.

They won’t stop it because some random forum poster demands it, and are even increasing frequency as mentioned in yesterday’s blog post.

Edit: After further reading your post, I’m going to say that you’re completely wrong about the “only things being added are PvP”, because that’s a contrived statement of falsehood.

Things added permanently within the game:
-Southsun Cove (with about 13ish Dynamic Events) and 1 jumping puzzle
-Karka Queen World Boss
-Guild Missions: Rush, Trek, Bounty, Puzzle
-Daily Laurels
-Aetherblade jumping puzzle
-Mini-dungeons
-Traveling NPC brawling guild
-Skritt Thief (traveling as well)
-Moa Racing (dammit Moot!)
-WvW Ranks
-WvW Ascended items

All this is BESIDES the Living Story events that are constantly happening in the game. That’s right, CONSTANTLY, as in “if a player leaves and comes back, they’ll come back during the active, happening Living Story and will find that as a change in the world”.

More event-exclusive Back Pieces? Really?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Siphaed.9235

Why for the Bazaar of the Four Winds are we, the players, getting the crack at yet another event-exclusive backpiece?

I have a bank tab dedicating roughly 1/2 it’s space to backpieces. There’s the Book of the Mad King, the Gift Bag from Wintersday, the Flower from Southsun, the Tentacles from Southsun, the Wings from Dragon Bash, another set of Wings from Dragon Bash, a guild backpack. The only one I’m missing is the Jetpack from F&F, which was drop based and I was never lucky enough to get (but no, I won’t pay over 150g to buy it off the TP).

Flame&Frost provided players with the event-exclusive Molten Gauntlets. Dragon Bash provided the event-exclusive Dragon Healm(s). Why are there not more of these to be seen during events, rather than another backpiece to choose from out of the dozens already there?

Bazaar of the Four Winds is about a floating air city, right? Why not do Icarus style shoes exclusive for the event? They’d have moving wings on each side that had a bit of animation to it (or not), and have a glitter, golden look about them. Fits the event perfectly, and it’s not another backpiece. However, it’s clearly too late to make this change, so consideration into other events might be best.

Am I alone in this? Am I the only one who is kind of tired of collecting tons of event-based backpieces?

I have a hard time getting into Living World events because they kinda feel tacked on to me. I’d be a lot more excited to try a new, permanent, difficult, and rewarding dungeon.

Hmmm,….I’m wondering if at all you’ve done the F&F Molten Weapons Facility, or the recent (and still open) Aetherblade Retreat? Because both were difficult and rewarding. AR is very, very difficult, and the rewards are at least 1 rare at the end, 1 gold, possibility of the Monocle (I so want!), and whatever the mid-boss drops. I’ve also received 3x Jade Weapon Tickets from all the coffers that have dropped for me in there (2 on one run!).

i dont want to see any living world events.. instead i would go 100% on rewards dungeons permanent content.. etc.. what the people is asking anet everyday.. and they keep ignoring.. stop this living world stuff.. if that is necesary to fix and get the stuff we need and want.. nobody would mind… really

Ya….they’re not going to “stop the Living World stuff”. A minority, which have no interest in something new but want the same-ol’, same-ol’, are the ones asking for those other things. They have no understanding that GW2 is NOT like other MMO’s, and will not be (see my post above, which is a direct quote from the developers).

If you don’t want to see the Living Story, which will be constant, then I might suggest to look for your flavor of fun else where. This flavor of fun isn’t going to try to “New Coke” it’s customers.

~Snip~

That should suffice to say, more or less shut up those that keep asking for raiding, gear progression, and the same features/content from other MMO games. If they want that, great on them, but there are choices out there that has what they want. This game, GW2, is going to -as the developers such as Colin have said- progress with the Living Story and do it’s own thing. I love it. I enjoy it. I HAVE FUN! GW2 for the win!

I disagree. Anyone who has purchased Guild Wars 2 (Including people who buy/bought Gems), is entitled to an opinion about the direction of the game, or lack there of. (People who were banned should not have a say)This includes armor, raids, and maybe even content similar to other MMOs, they should be allowed to.

ArenaNet has also stated they welcome suggestions, as long as they are constructive, and respectful to others.

Actually, they don’t. They pay no monthly subscription and are not “entitled” to anything other than to be able to play the game as it is when they purchase it, with all the content that’s labeled on the box. All these Living Story content updates are FREE, as in players haven’t had to pay a dime to play them. That is the direction of this game as outlined by Colin in the blog post (so you can’t really say “lack there of” just because you don’t like it).

Once again I must point out that the developers are not wanting to, and will not try to, be like other MMOs on the market. They don’t want to create WoW2.0. They don’t want the very mediocre dungeon treadmill attached with a spotty power creep. They want GW2 to be the best at being it’s own thing, with their own set of goals and creativity. If you* don’t like, if you* can’t have fun with it, if you* can’t enjoy it, and if all you* do is complain about how it should be like ‘X’ game instead of how it is., then just log out, uninstall, and don’t play. Such a simple concept. But, demanding them to change their game to your liking for no other reason that to be like every other game out there is rude and just spitting in the face of ArenaNet.

*The “you” is not the person I quote, but more of a general to the many who try to change this game to something it’s not to push their own agenda rather than going out and finding what they do enjoy.

I am very very very curious about what is in store for rewards since reward is the engine of this game it seems. Id like more reward for exploration, finding hidden caves, waterfalls, chests, etc.

Achievement rewards going into the game next week on the July 9th patch. But…. there are many explorable rewards in the game currently. These are not only the jumping puzzle chests, but also the mini-dungeon chests too. Even without those, in random places in tents, up in bandit tree-forts, down in skritt tunnels (not Skrittsburg), and other places in the game I’ve found many chests and loot caches. I’ve even found some random mobs that ask me to save them and they become a unique vendor afterwards, or to fight them and they give me a cool prize….the whole game already has those exploration rewards right now. There’s no arrow to follow, just need two legs and the ability to move.

13)“I want this to be a niche title”

14)The Buy-to-Play model

15)If I don’t like your content, I won’t like it years from now

16)Playing for fun. YOUR fun

17)If you cared about GW2 you would criticize it

13) A.Net caters to their audience for what they want to do. Be that niche, it’s fine. Requesting, …nay, demanding them to change it around to cater to players of other games already in the genre with features already in those other games is selfish and entitled.

14) A bit late to complain about the business model, right? The game is 9 months old, and it’s kind of already set. This game won’t be going subscription any time soon. The Gem Store seems to have plenty of support from the player base in purchases from the constant updates from A.Net that coincide with their content updates to the game.

15) I don’t understand this point. Is it another rant of hardcore vs casual in that we should ‘embrace’ a revamp of this game to cater to a very low population to make it like other games in a sense of….entitlement to that group of players? This game is what it is, content will not change to be what you’re asking for it to be (hardcore raiding, item progression, super-dooper uber rare skins that only 5 people in the entire game can get). It’s just not going to happen.

16) Wait…. I’ll agree to say that those who aren’t having fun are “doing it wrong” is incorrect. Instead, I’ll show them the door and say that there are many choices out there that they can go to that will be their particular flavor of fun. This game, however, is OUR Flavor of Fun. Us, the GW2 players who dislike gear grind (85% of other MMOs out there), who enjoy exploration (less than 20% of MMO’s have systems for this), who enjoy what this game is based on Living Story, on flat-stat plateaus that make everyone balanced, with skill based combat and action.

17) I figured this post was going to lead to a hug on another MMO. Didn’t expect it to be Wildstar, but by your point-to-point obsession with gear grinds, uber-rare drops, and raids, I should have figured as much. Incidentally you mention that “Wildstar is catering to all types”, yet from everything that I’ve seen in developer videos and such, it would seem that Wildstar is trying very hard to cater most exclusively to “the 1% hardcore raiding crowd”. Well, good for them, that’s their audience. This game’s audience is everyone who wants whatever they want, save for the hardcore raider. This game (GW2) is NOT FOR THEM. Period. Exclamation point! This game is for the PvEer who likes a progressing story arcs instead of 1 new raid every 3-6 months to grind through, the WvWer who wants to have big fights in large crowds over control of towers/keeps/castles/camps, the sPvPer who wants to do some skilled and balanced fights where gear isn’t a factor, the explorer who wants to find new random things in the nooks and crannies of the world, the completionist who wants to be top in Achievements earned for everything, the casual player who logs in 1hr a week to chat with friends on the weekend while running a dungeon, and more. Just. Not. The. Hardcore. Raider. No, not going to happen. Not now, not ever.

8)Fractals gave Guild Wars 2 meaning

9)WvW doesn’t encourage teamplay

10)Endgame is a goal, not a time-sink

11)Why shouldn’t I choose the competition?

12)Quitting only exacerbates the problem

8) No. Fractals gave GW2 additional content in the form of short series of dungeon “wings” in the form of time-portals through mirrors of Tyria’s past. Ascended gear was an obnoxious addition that dragged people out of other content because those random numbers on items were a measure of their self and thus they had to have more. Only when Ascended gear was added to Guild Mission, Dailies, and now WvW is it fairly even that people can FREELY CHOOSE THE CONTENT THEY WANT while still getting the top gear that’s within the game. After all, that’s what the developers originally wanted with this game (manifesto).

9) WvW does encourage teamplay. You may just not be a team player. Find a good guild to run with and it makes all the difference.

10) The whole game for GW2 is …the game. Sure there’s a Level Cap, but there’s no “end-game”. The game continues, it doesn’t ever end….heck, even when hitting level 80 a player still gets Skill Points from XP gained, still leveling, though not leveling…it’s just a cap on stats (clearly for balance reasons). The rest of this # is biased ranting saying that there’s no rewards in Tyria (huh?) and that everything a person does is a “task”, not an adventure (I’m guessing that’s perspective of someone who just doesn’t seem to have fun).

11) {Rant about how this game is “dying” with nothing constructive] PASS

12) People are making the suggestion not to “don’t like it, leave” as a rude condescension, but instead of a brutish way to push off what should be a polite suggestion. It should read “If you’re not having fun and not enjoying the game for what it is, best move on to something that you would enjoy more.” But it’s said in a brutish manner because instead of doing just that, people such as yourself try to demand that the game that other people enjoy should be completely altered to something different to appease yourself. It’s rude and totally selfish to do, thus they are a bit defensive when it comes to that.

1)Praise doesn’t help…

2)and neither does whining.

3)Guild Wars 2 is following trends, not the manifesto

4)Reward is crucial

5)The best rewards should be the hardest to earn

6)Invest in the future, not in the Living Story

7)Hardcore content = longevity

1) But adding temporary skins, consumable fireworks/funboxes, and minis DOES bring A.Net money for the larger, “free” content updates for the game. It is a long-term business model because they’ve already done it for GW1. It’s worked for them so far, sorry that you’re incorrect.

2) You call it “whining”, others call it constructive feedback. Players have stated what they want, A.Net listened, and things changed. Simple and works.

3) Temporary content, which is a living, breathing world of Meta Dynamic Events on a bi-weekly basis is exactly what was outlined in the manifesto (another thing you’re incorrect about). RNG, or random drops, random pick ups, and so on is something that’s been a keystone of MMO’s since their conception, since the days of MUD’s, and since the days of 6-sided dice tabletop RPG’s (R.I.P. Gary Gygax); more over, there was nothing in the oh-so-holy Manifesto that says that the game wouldn’t have a background RNG based system.

4) Your offense to the Mystic Forge is the same as to random world drops, a key that every MMO out there has/had. WoW is notorious for it (or was, not sure how it is now). A person finds an awesome item adventuring and wants to sell it. He doesn’t magically get 500g, he gets it from someone who unfortunately didn’t find the item but had the coin, so they buy it. Coin trades hands from one rich guy to the next, and the system sinks 15% into oblivion (75g gone forever).

5)The best rewards for this game are shiny weapons that have sparkly effects. Most are Legendary, some are just really uber-rare Exotics. They are all hard to earn, especially the Legendary ones that require you to invest heavily into every part of the game (minus sPvP). So….moot point?

6) Living story IS the future of this game. It’s been known for quite some time (6 months ago during S.O.G. blog before F&F kicked off). You only assume that A.Net is shortsighted, which is quite rude by the way. If attention was paid, you’d know that they have already planned out a full years worth of content updates way back during the last phases of F&F. The whole Living Story is one big Meta that will lead to a player nemesis being revealed and conquered. It’s good chapter content that has a very interesting story. The rest of your demands are nothing more than rants about Guild Halls, which is content that is what? A random hall for your guild to meet in? Why can’t they do this at one of the dozens of bars in the 7 major cities in Tyria? Progressing PvE story content….or….random instanced, completely useless rooms for guilds? Which should be worked on….

7) What proof do you have to provide for your “fact that GW2 is losing it’s player base”? Do you have access to A.Net’s and NCSoft’s corporate accounting numbers, player charts, and information? I thought not. This game is casual friendly, nothing wrong with that (and you’re wrong about casual games not lasting, as there have been many, including the hat-friendly TF2 for a long time). Hardcore content is there in the form of WvW rank progression -which titles the player, beyond just increasing WvW skills- and Legendary weapons. You may not see them as hardcore, but that’s opinion based…my opinion is that something taking dedication and still 3 months to create in a video game is hardcore..casual, good luck getting it even within 9 months!

A question about racist comments

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Something I have noticed that I find a bit odd.

If I or most people I know see someone in game call another by a racist name we report it and Anet responds with a ban.

and this is the way it should be.

But GW2 is FULL of racism and nobody is bothered by it infact most people laugh at it.
examples.

Take the Asurans for example

“Bookah” is a large, loud, bellowing, and dumb imaginary creature that the Asura used to frighten their children. Since their surfacing, they use the term to refer to those they view as inferior beings, which to them is almost everyone who is not an Asura.

This is a derogatory term that they assign to the races they deem beneath them.

also several people in the game seem to have adopted and accepted calling Sylvari “Salad Heads”

Even members of the lionguard in this latest living story use it.

“You think salad boy can make good on his threat?”

The char and norn both have been known to make other racist comments against humans and other races

I Still have difficulty on how to react to this. On one hand I tend to wish to say its a game and its their culture. but on the other it was created by humans and is thereby an extension of ours. If I was “magically” transported to Tyria I would no sooner call a sylvari a Salad head than I would call a ….. and this is my point I even refuse to pick a race and term to use in an example here. but yet I fear the day when I watch my own toon call someone a name in some cut scene.

“Bookah” is used in lieu of the term “idiot”, just as the humans in-game would use the term “Skritt-head” for the same use. It’s somewhat derogatory, but in no way racist if it’s not used directly against a singular race (well, ‘Skritt-head’ maybe, but not Bookah). In fact, you’ll find that from time to time the Asura within the story arches will even call other Asura a bunch of Bookahs.

Salad jokes are tossed (smirk) around because the Sylvari are basically walking, talking salads. Some are made like bark and trees, others are made like bushes and weeds. They don’t reproduce physically or other, they’re “born” by way of the Pale Tree that grows them, thus they are plants. Being that they are less than 25 years old at most, they are also very young and naive about the world around them. Many of their race express a natural state of obliviousness, and ask so many questions to the point of absurdity. This is why it’s easy to make jokes about the Lettuce-heads.

Also, I would say that this game’s issues are less “Racism”, as you so call it, and more “Specism”. Each of the so called “races” are not a race based on their skin color, national creed, or what have you, but instead are a bunch of different species. These species are: Super intelligent mole-like creatures, Humans, Giant anger-filled cats, human-like Giants from the north, and walking talking vegetables.

I had a Kevlar earlier today in Aetherblade Retreat. This one starts the final boss of a group that hasn’t a clue what to do, before even having a chance to utter the words “here’s what to do”. Then, finding Mia immune to damage, Kevlar decides to lead the others to killing Horrik, not once, but twice! The first time I was like, “don’t kill Horrik, Mia just rezes him” and “kite Mia to to blue, she loses stacks of shield, she then can take damage”. And he continues to keep killing Horrik. Two others join in on me basically yelling at this guy to get off Horrik, and this continues though the first phase.

Oh, and the cannonball run? The one which was explained to go to separate corners to split up the fire and just dodge the rings in your corner area. This Kevlar decides to run from corner to corner to corner, kitting cannon fire directly to all the other members of the group, who were doing fine dodging the rings without added pressure. Needless to day, this group wiped 3x on this boss, then Kevlar of all people said “I’m done with this”, leaves…..and he was the instance starter, so we’re all kicked. G-Kevlar-G

Raids and housing coming to GW2!

The article doesn’t necessarily mean “player housing”. It was a mix up with the translation related to the discussion of Guild Halls. It was meant to say that it’s exciting that they’re being implemented as a guild house method of a place of collaboration for the guild. There’s no mention in the article for player housing at all.

Aetherblade Caches - What's the point?

Am I missing something crucial here but aren’t those just normal chests?
So what’s the point of having to visit all those tedious JPs again? Just for achievements to get a boring mini that is yet again just a smaller version of an existing npc?

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I am playing a mmo so I am basically killing time I could use to, I don’t know, save the world or feed hungry children. But “run to the other end of the world, again, and get an achievement” feels like killing my time with a rusty spoon…. covered in cotton wool….

F.
U.
N.

You don’t have to do it unless you think it’s fun. If it’s not fun for you, don’t do it. Simple concept.

For me, those jumping puzzles are fun, doing them once, twice, even 30 times. The EB one, to get the cache there, was the best because I did it with a group of 6-7 guild members who had a somewhat blast killing SoR players, trying to guide poeple who have never done it, and watching so many fall deaths. It was an experience unlike any other….

The reward? So what if it’s “just a mini” to you. That mini in my bank is a reminder of this event, a reminder of my fun times, and a reminder of me kicking Horrick’s butt after he shot a cannon at mine.

New loading screens and sPvP map!!!

1) NOT Dragonbash. Has no teeth, instead lanterns. City is also covered with balloons instead of dragon-kites. This seems to be a carnival themed event outside dragon bash. Also, notice the center shows a man on a horse fighting a lizard of some kind, could be a dragon but could be something else. (Any source for this “loading screen”?)

2) Looks related to http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wizard%27s_Tower more than anything. I see no artistic indication that it’s related to the Aetherblades or current events (no Inquest reds, no Steampunk armor on either, and no white lightning). Again, this’ll need source and related questions to be answered first.

3) This one looks more legit than the other two and as mentioned above is looking to be the Skyhammer sPvP map that was data mined over a month ago.

Chop-It-All Axe =/= Trio Complete
New! Chop-It-All Logging Axe

The Black Lion Trading Company is pleased to present the Chop-It-All Logging Axe! This beauty completes our trio of infinite harvesting tools; it’s another example of the Black Lion Trading Company’s dedication to improving the lives of Tyrians everywhere!
There’s a problem with that Axe being claim to a completion of trio of infinite harvesting tools by the BLTC. It’s not. See, the BLTC has made the infinite Molten Pickaxe and the Chop-It-All Axe, but was completely one-upped by the Consortium when it came to the infinite harvesting sickle.

Just saying….BLTC made look to be fools for claiming that they have this trio when they’ve only provided 2 of 3

Guild Wars 2: A MMO Unlike Any Other

Temple of Lyssa is probably more like the Raid style battle people are thinking about, and probably twice more interesting than actual raid content in other MMOs. Let’s not forget that WoW raids have been toned down a lot in the recent half decade, and is pretty much equivalent to the Claw of Jormag fight.

Did I forget the Temple of Lyssa? I’m sorry. I tried getting as many listed as I could. I didn’t even list Ancient Karka as an expired, one-time-only raid. That itself, though laggy a bit, was a very interesting 2 and 1/2 to 3hr multiple phased event of very epic proportions.

The thing about these events I listed is that people just recall the boss and nothing more. Each one of these has many steps to them that includes such things as minion spawn, objects to destroy, and other odd mechanics that do require cooperation (verbally known or otherwise). ~Ex. During the Karka Queen’s first show, many people had to be told were to stand to avoid her jump-stomp of death, had to be educated that when she was still shelled players needed to egg her with her own eggs, and so on. That’s a raid experience, from both sound and feel of it all. And that’s just her fight, there’s still the four dynamic events required to even unlock her, which again requires communication amongst the players/server, as well as coordination (especially with her on a 10 minute timer as soon as she spawns).

I wonder why the new dungeon doesn’t have explo tokens for the gear?

Because, the dungeon is for the mini, the Monocle, and the potion. Not for new gear. They also want the new gear to not just be dungeon gear…anyone who either wants to pony up the $$ for gems to buy it can, but also anyone who wants to have earned 36ish gold can also obtain it that way, from any play experience that they earn it from (excluding sPvP).

This is a BTP game. Anet needs to make some money from the gem store. To make new content, pay their bills and give NCsoft a cut. It’s this or more gem store RNG boxes.

Most mmo’s don’t add any major additional content until their expansions. That are not usually released in their first year.

IMO you have this partially correct, the new content being worked on is for other NCsoft titles like Wildstar not GW2, some to pay bills, most to the NCsoft cut. RNG boxes are the spawn of satan/NCsoft.

Any proof to your wildly crazy accusations? Because right now they sound like the ranting of an Area 51 + Bigfoot + Ancient Aliens believer.

Money related to Guild Wars 2 is divided up into production costs and profit. Now, production costs goes to new content, employees’ paychecks, and even possible whiteboarding for an expansion. The profit side, those that don’t go into those things, is what’s called “NCSoft’s take”, which goes to their Yearly Earnings report as good money for their company (and stockholders get happy).

BUT…..the content for Guild Wars 2, and it’s consistently hardworking developers, gets paid for. Don’t assume it doesn’t. They don’t work for free, and the money is not funneled into a completely different project with completely different developers. If that was even remotely true, they’d walk out of the offices instead of standing in front of a camera singing the Dragon Bash theme song….
