Oh no, did I vendor my Bifrost for?!?!

It doesn’t matter what bags you use, when your bags are full the items goes to the last available spot, no matter what it is or wich bags you have.

With something that valuable, you’d at least take the extra two seconds between a weapon swap to put the item in an Invisible bag.

Also, if you have your swap weapons in the invisible bag, your weapon puts where those weapons were. Theoretically, if you were wise enough to already have them in your Invisible Bag, your Bifrost would go directly there in the swap (where the available spot would be.

Things come to mind…

-lack of oversight
-impatience
-inattentiveness
-poor judgement
-bad luck

You cannot sell legendry weapons to vendors. Support doesn’t fix accidents by the player.

Check your bank.

Really?

Okay…so another one comes to mind: troll. Because either the OP deleted it (which requires a confirmation and in extreme cases a typing of items name), or he left it in the bank.

Guild Wars 2: A MMO Unlike Any Other

PvE Questing: Non-traditional dynamic events and Hearts sprinkle the lands in which players choose which to complete when and where. There’s no hub-to-hub track of clear definition, with exploration highly encouraged. Each section of the world has it’s own flair and unique events that characterize it. There are no “!” or “?” like in other games. A completed heart is rewarded by a letter in the mail with coin attached, no NPC to return to; dynamic events follow suit with coin directed deposited to the player, XP and Karma added in as well.

Raiding: There’s a lot of people that define raiding by what some other MMOs do in having an instanced zone with high HP bosses, quite a lot of “trash mobs” (also high HP) and a limitation of 10, 20, 30, or 40 man groups {there’s also many times a weekly or several-day count timer were completion cannot be done again within that cooldown period}. Guild Wars 2 has raiding in it. The raiding is provided in the form of open world bosses throughout the world that anyone (appropriate level, of course) can come and participate with other players. They reward participants with a once-a-day chest with a rare or greater item in it, plus the boss chest too.
—-_ Guild Wars 2 Raids: _—-

-The Frozen Maw
-Jungle Worm
-Shadowfiend
-Fire Elemental
-Karka Queen
-The Claws of Jormag
-The Shatterer
-Tequatl the Sunless
-Temple of Grenth
-Temple of Balthazar
-Temple of Melandru
-Cathedral of Zephyrs

Content Updates: Much to the controversy some see it as, GW2 pumps out temporary content updates every 1-3 weeks as part of the Living Story. These are chunks of story, mini-games, world events, achievements, and even possibly a dungeon within a month’s time. These content updates progress a story -however cheesy- and make the game feel alive through it’s progression. Other MMO’s? Be lucky if you see content patches every 2 months, maybe 3-6 is more likely. None of this is including balance, bug fixes, and the usual tuning of the game.

Cost: GW2 launched in August 28th 2012. That’s nearly 10 months ago. Initial cost was $60 (dropped to the now $50). That’s it. Against a subscription AAA title, which would cost $60+(15x(10-1))=$195 for those same 10 months of game time. Sure there are constantly added fluff items in the Gem Store that helps fund the bi-monthly content updates that have been rolling out.

What’s the point of all this?
Guild Wars 2 isn’t like other games, nor will it be. Raiding is already in the game, and it’s A.Net’s take on it, not a copy of other game’s raiding. Content updates are FREE for a non-subscription based game, temporary or otherwise. Gem store items help support the game’s constant updates, so some stuff will be added there and not to the game directly. Other things won’t be changed to fit what other MMO’s have.

TLDR Version: This is not a clone. This is not <insert other MMO here>. This is Guild Wars 2. It is it's own beast. It is fun. Deal with it.

Guild Wars 2: A MMO Unlike Any Other

Guild Wars 2 is not like other MMORPGs out there. Sure on the most basic aspects it is, but major parts of it are done in it’s own way to carve itself a different piece of the genre’s giant pie (the piece with more flavor and more fun).

Resources: In most other games, resources are limited to one person looting it and then it goes away. Server limited to 1 spawn on a timer. GW2 decided to have players not compete against each other for resources and every node can be mined by every player in the zone equally.

Mob Tagging/Rewards: Someone hit the mob, it turns grey to everyone else and only the initial first-hitter gets credit for the kill. This is how most other MMOs do it. Not so in GW2 which has everyone who help kill the mob get credit based on three tiers of participation: bronze, silver, and gold. Rewards such as chests are available to every participant, just like coin, and even drops (though that’s still a system RTD generator thing).

Trinity: GW2 there is none. There’s no pure healer, no pure DPS, and no pure tank. In a 5 man dungeon, you don’t need to be “LF1M Healer +9,000 Int, link gear”. A group can successfully do 6 Fractals with 3 Rangers, 1 Elementalist, and 1 Mesmer. In other MMO’s, it’s all about getting a healer, getting a tank, and the rest fill in for damage. A standard, generic fantasy trope.

Gear: Guild Wars 2 has flat gear Tiers. This means that all the gear in a single Tier (say level 80 Exotic) has the exact same stat allocation unlike other games that there might be a single exotic staff from a boss that has 15% higher stats than all the other exotic ones, and the next dungeon does another stat increase, and so on.

Factions: As mentioned in some of the other points above, this game does a lot to prevent trying to pit other people against each other on the same server unless it’s in sPvP or WvW. That being said, there’s no factions and all the player races are all working together against the bigger evil (the Elder Dragons).

(s)PvP: Quite a few MMOs out there have gear stats influencing PvP in one way or another. Be that specific stats created for PvP beyond the normals, or just regular. In GW2, stats are based on spec and runes/sigils only, but they’re even. There’s no super top-tier gladiator set to own everyone who doesn’t have it.

Open World PvP: Another somewhat anti-grief mechanic. Open World PvP, also known as World vs World, is put into separate maps that is separate from normal PvE gameplay. This way those that want the PvP risks can fully without need to make different server sets, without need to set artificial zone restrictions. For other games, Open World PvP is a rule set for a server that’s also defined by labeled friendly and contested zones.

5 Ways People Take MMOs Too Seriously

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

5: The smalltime hero:
Elitism is, sadly, something you see a lot of in MMOs. We’ve all run into arrogant top tier raiders and PvP gods who view anyone with less than a hundred thousand kills as beneath them. But it’s understandable to run into these types when pushing through a game’s hardest challenges. Sometimes, a little bit of snobbery is required dominate the toughest content and most skilled opponents.

What’s much less understandable and much more frustrating is when that elitism makes it into the rest of the game, when people start viewing easy dungeons and simple group quests as something that can only be done by the best of the best.

Ironically, the people who give into this kind of elitism are often the least accomplished. Somehow, with no raid kills or significant player versus player wins to their name, they’ve still managed to view themselves as the pinnacle of gaming perfection, and they have no problem treating anyone who fails to meet their ideal of perfect play like something they scraped off their boot.

It doesn’t matter that the content they’re running could be facerolled by a half a dozen brain-dead lab chimps. It doesn’t matter that their own play is sloppy. It doesn’t matter that the real experts would laugh at them for taking things so seriously. In their own minds, they are the gods of gaming, and all should welcome their scathing “advice.”

4: The anti-carebear:
Some people like to PvP. Some people love PvP. And some people allow PvP to consume their souls, until there is nothing left of them but a bitter shell of a person who can only measure the worth of someone by their ability to gank people as quickly and brutally as possible.

Even if they play a PvE-centric game, these people will behave as if the entire universe revolves around player versus player content. In their eyes, all PvEers are spineless carebears without the strength or the skill to play the game properly. If any feature doesn’t contribute to their ability to gank, it has no reason to exist and should be stricken from the game.

These types have long since lost any capacity for fun. Winning or losing is all that matters to them. They don’t play their class because they like it; they play it because they heard it was the most overpowered, and they’ll level a new character the moment another class can beat it. They apply the same logic to race choice. They pick their server and faction based on whatever has the highest population of skilled PvPers. Every decision they make is only to further their kill count.

Like so many kinds of people on this list, these rabid virtual gladiators have let their passion run wild until they’ve long since ceased to get any joy from it. They hate their teammates for sucking, the enemy team for not sucking, and the game for not letting them faceroll everything with a broken class. Even their victories are but a brief respite from their endless frustration.

I’ve actually met people that fall into both those categories together in this game. It would be players in WvW who consistently belittle PvE players and even scream at them for entering their content.

There are many of them asking PUG players and people that aren’t in their guild to leave the map just so that they can “free up the queue for our guildmates and real WvWers”

Those same feel the need to also ask for specific classes running specific specs that they deem is “correct”. Thinking that no other build is useful to their way of playing the game and will drag down the overall server effort on that particular map. Running with them (possibly one of only two commanders on the map) is something strictly forbidden because it will drag them down in some unfathomable fashion, so be prepared to be screamed at if you do.

Oh, and if you’re actually following them under the initial class/spec requirements that are met, they then require to be connected into their TS3 channel so that barked orders can pierce your eardrums repeatedly. As an added bonus, they can somehow magically see your computer screen to see if you have the commander center-targeted the whole time like a good-ol’-boy.

P.S. I, myself, partially fall into category #3 for the Story nut. However, I enjoy the surprises and rather hate when A.Net ruins them via achievements, Facebook posts, and News blurts on this website. I try to replace every curse with “Skritt”, “Bookah” or variations of them to keep it RP and clean. So, all those Skrittheaded bookah elitists in the Mists can go impale themselves as I enjoy the game in a casual, fun way.

AMD (Quad) CPU = FPS Issues?!

Quick spec look:

Processor: AMD Athlon™ II X4 635

Memory (RAM): 12.0 GB

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560
—Driver: 6.2.9200.16384 (most recent)

OS: Win8 64-bit

Okay, so WvW really is a pile of Skritt droppings on my computer when it comes to fighting large groups. Of course I don’t run it on high (insane!), but I try for a medium because low makes the game look like smeared dung. However, the game almost completely locksdown and becomes a slide-show under any major fight (garrison, keeps, major tower fights, etc.).

I need some tip to fix this.

As for what programs I run during the game, keeping it minimal with just GW2, TeamSpeak3 (for guild comm), Pandora Desktop, and FRAPS. I try to close down any browsers I have open, make sure things like Steam is shut down, and nothing else beyond those mentioned and the OS itself are running.

P.S. Please don’t tell me to “Overclock”, one of the worse tips that can be had.

Dead on about the title of the event. Dead on about the context of the event. Data mining at it’s finest.

P.S. You’d think that when the developers release an image related to a “secret” upcoming event, that they would remove the name related to said event in the image title so as to not give it away.

WvWvW: Need ORBs to Return

in WvW

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

Orbs will never come back in the form they had as they simply were too easy to hack around. With that said, we are definitely working on finding a suitable replacement for the best parts of the orbs, while avoiding as many of the downsides as we can. It’s not simple task though, so it isn’t as simple as deciding to do it one day and finishing it the next. Our goal is to get a new and improved version out when we can, but we can’t say yet when that will be.

Thank you for your response. And it’s great to hear that you’re working on an alternate. However, it’s been a while….a long while. I know “Rome wasn’t built in a day”, but Orbs were removed on November 1st. Since that time we’ve heard nor seen a spec of what might be worked on as a “solution”.

And other people have found alternate workarounds those Orbs as they were, such as requiring a wall/door of outer and inner sections of the facility holding it before the Orb Shrine becomes vulnerable in the first place.

But, the issue is that the Orb added central objectives on the maps and allowed for an obtainable goal that gave your server a justifiable reward for going all-out in a siege for the shiny ball. Now? Now it’s just random roaming zergs.

So, exactly what solution are your guys working on to reduce the random roaming zergs?

Forget Moa Racing, We have COWS!

Siphaed.9235

Okay, so moa racing is popular in being a HUGE money sink that’s draining the wallets of Tyrians everywhere….well, okay so it’s just in Lion’s Arch. But that’s about to change…

In Diessa Platteau we’re going to see Cattle Racing. Not a joke! It’s already partially set up, but currently disabled for some reason or another.

The question on my mind is: Will there be any other additional PERMANENT mini-games to be added to the game that differs from betting/costing players in-game currency?

Currently there’s cow-cannon betting, moa racing betting, and now soon-to-be-in is cow racing betting. The only non-betting games of fun are Costume Brawl, Keg Brawl, and rock’um robots (in Metrica Provence, if you even count that one).

Does Anet play the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

Has anyone ever seen some one from anet actually play the game. Most of the time they talk about what is in the best interest of us or what they think would be more fun. But it seems to be going in the wrong direction cause everyone keeps complaining. I all most wonder if they even play there own game. I mean i wonder if they are satisfied with how it turned out.

Does everyone think that Anet or NCsoft or who ever makes the decisions is creating better content that the gamer actually wants or just easy filler to appease people cause they promised they would give us new stuff?

Are you freakin’ kidding me?! They do a 30min-1hr Live Stream every Friday of them playing the game. (Check their YouTube channel).

Most of the devs are members of the same guild on SBI server. I’ve played with a few in Dynamic Events, sPvP, and WvW when that server was my home.

As for people “keep complaining”, that’s because they’re a very vocal minority. You cannot please all the people, all of the time; you can please some of the people, most of the time. And right now, what they’re doing as far as the direction of the game and what’s “fun”, I think it’s brilliant.

Nameless weapons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Siphaed.9235

It’s not really a “glitch”, as it is .dat file mining. See, every item in the game has a “code” related to that item. That code can be typed in chat in sequence to reveal the particular item. Sometimes the code of an item is added to the game w/o a name because the item isn’t completely finished yet (and the name is sometimes withheld to prevent spoilers to those that do .dat mine).

The code is something like [&AgGuqQAA] and it’s for a new steampunk looking shield to be released in the content patch on the 25th. If you replaced the “u” with a “v”, you’d get a pistol. “n” is a new mini pet. “q” is a hammer, “t” is a mace, “r” is a scepter, “y” is a rifle.

Siphaed.9235

It might still push other servers over the top. I say, instead of stat boost, an increase in exp, karma, MF and Wxp (kinda like the ones you get when you’re outmanned).

This.
Make them bonuses you would want but not things that change the game. Could be anything from a lot of Magic Find to increased WXP.

Encourages fighting over them but doesn’t cause major imbalances in power, only rewards and if you’re holding it, drawing that attention, I think the reward should be all yours.

It is called “Orb of Power” not “Orb of Experience” nor “Orb of Magic Find”, I’m just saying that it giving a side a small (food buff) boon is not a bad thing.

WvWvW: Need ORBs to Return

in WvW

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

Orbs bring further imbalanced to matchups that are already not balanced. Playing on NSP and having about 15% of the WvW population of DH who we are playing against, I would not want to give even more of an advantage to the side that is going to win 100% of the time anyways.

Now in balanced tiers, where all 3 servers are equal, orbs would be a nice twist. But until the WvW tiers balance out, orbs are too volatile to bring back.

They’re a single goal that is fought between 3 sides. If two sides don’t own it, they fight against the side that does to obtain it. That’s where it becomes a more enjoyable, tactical fight instead of just a circle-cap run that it currently is now.

As I’d mentioned above, the stats of the Orb (singular) is that equal to a food buff. If you have a food buff and they don’t, you’re on even terms. If you have two or more orbs, it’s still only a slight increase by that of only 75% of the first Orb.

I’m just saying that when the orbs were in play, beyond the hacking/glitching/exploiting, the gameplay was far more fun because it was a singular objective on a spread map with several secondary ones. It helped advance a more tactical team play than what’s currently out there. IT WAS FUN!

WvWvW: Need ORBs to Return

in WvW

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

Okay, I get why they were removed. There was hackers able to fly through the map with the things; there was Mesmers portaling through the walls; and there were environmental weapons that exploited around keeps. That’s all been cleared up, right?

The orbs also had an issue with them being super powerful for the winning team. A team could cap all 3 orbs and essentially own all 4 maps for the entire matchup against the other servers. Though this is partially due to the other two servers not partnering up to take out the commanding server, yet instead they just gave up all together.

Enough of the negative,..just enough. Let’s look at the positive aspects of them. When there was an orb in a keep, that entire owning server’s presence on that server was to defend that keep at all costs and obtain surrounding structures to support/supplement that keep. The other two servers presence on that map was to consistently harass and attack that keep (whether in unison or individually).

Trebs, catapults, and various other siege was used by literally the 100’s in single invasion attempts. Supply camps never stayed supplied…never. A supply camp was constantly drained to constantly repair buildings, build siege, and help back up whatever objective was your team. This was done through volunteered and assigned supply teams/trains, which kept moving over and over again (not giant zerg balls).

Even when it came to transporting the Orb(s), a team did it in ways that wasn’t so much a zerg as it was multiple team efforts. Different groups would be clearing the roads in front and behind the orb carrying group. There would be siege preparations setting up on where the orb was going, based on the inevitable strike against it by the other chasing servers.

Suggestion related to orbs: Reduce the buff of the orbs by 2% HP and 50% Stats per additional orb owned. Right, so the single orb is a flat 5% HP and +50 Stats, the second orb owned would give another 3% HP and +25 stats, and the third orb owned would give an additional 1% HP and +13 stats. (equates to total of 8% HP and +88 Stats, which is like having two extra food Boons).

It’s a bit over sensitive and will nuke words that are not considered profanity.

For example acts o f (kindness) without ( ) = acts okittendness.

Because the filter is able to read those letters in sequence: F(ef)-K(kay)-I(eye)-N(inn)

See it?

That’s not the filter being overly sensitive, so much as it is that short term phrases for the whole words themselves are set to filter to avoid being nasty towards one another.

There are such ways to express one’s hate and dislike towards something without swearing up and down like a drunken sailor. I’ve learned that as I try to ween myself off the devil’s tongue that all too often curses my mouth. A person could mean the same of saying “She is such a horrible person” instead of the very crude “She’s a <insert noun curse word here>”. Same thing is meant in both, but the former has better context than the latter.

The content related to this event and it’s spread theme haven’t yet revealed itself. If you notice all the Marriner plaques placed all around the city of Lion’s Arch, they’re not yet interactive. I’m guessing they’re going to be linked to Tuesday’s patch.

There’s also a sort of shrine next to two graves over on the far side of the bay on a rock island outcropping next to the old windy house there. Again, something that seems to be related that hasn’t be revealed.

This was already confirmed in a leak. They will attack and disrupt Dragon Bash.

Also, expect huge changes to Death Shroud.

I think a different thing attacks and disrupts the Effigy burning during Dragon Bash. I mean, that’s on the 18th (this Tuesday) and the update related to S.P.o.T. is going to be on Tuesday the 25th (1 week later). I’m sure they’ll be related, but is it definitive that they’ll be the direct ones to interrupt the event? Or will it be someone working for them instead (like familiars from Blade)?

So yep, that’s another thing to add speculation of the Sky Pirates of Tyria. (And yes, I know they’re called “Aetherblade” based on previous .dat digs, but they can still be called Sky Pirates in the update label).

Are we going to have Sky Pirates of Tyria as the June 25th update?

Let’s see what we have linking the things together….

https://d3b4yo2b5lbfy.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/ba60dSPoT_ReleaseWidget.jpg

That image is the widget from the Release Page related to June 25th “coming soon”. The widget name is “SPoT_Release”. Every widget has been named related to it’s event by name of said event. So that’s where we get the assumed name related to the S.P.o.T. that’s in it.

But why sky pirates?
Take a good look at the image provided. That’s a female swashbuckler in what looks like black leather clothing that Emperor Ming ordered (save her, Flash Gordon!).

But there are other links to my theory.
In this thread here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/dragonbash/The-Mysterious-Rock-Formation/first a poster by the name of Anhellbro said he’d gotten images from his friend related to the “mysterious rock formation” that was hinted at in the last patch notes.

That is a SKY SHIP! Notice the Asura based tech engines, the wings, the flaps, and the fact that it’s 100+ft up in the air.

Am I crazy? Or…..or… have I uncovered an awesome update coming in a few weeks?

Tiered Events: Secrets vs. Achievements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

Where to start? Okay, how about that I LOVE this game and how it’s content actually feels like a living, changing game world from month to month. It’s almost like a book with a new chapter each month to experience…. But, every chapter seems to have spoilers directly on the title page of said chapter.

Achievements are spoilers that some people do not want. Those that actually like the secrets of what’s going to happen next hidden away until it happens are having it kind of ruined by achievements.

Take for how “Secrets of Southsun” wasn’t so secret when the first section released with small parts, yet everything was known about Canatch, his robot, and even the Crazy Queen Karka. All this weeks before each of them actually hammed.

We have the same issue with the current Dragon’s Bash in that we well already know that something bad is going to happen during the effigy burning. That bad something is going to leave players to a trek across Tyria to investigate the incident, another fun fact we know thanks to the achievements.

Now back in October and November, each of those events were preset to happen as part of the monthly achievements and even had event achievement sets. Both of them were also hidden behind a series of “???” until the event actually happened. That’s what made it so magical and awe-inspiring when the unexpected happened.

Am I alone in wanting the “??” back for achievements not yet achievable until such time as the event triggers live on the game?

Little worried now… Always looking for event bargains(selling the dragon coffers early when they were 10-13s when event went live knowing they’d go down) and thought this was another new thing. Didn’t ring any bells immediately after first and only attempt (4 or 5 forges when they were 1.8g), then kinda made no sense after checking pet price history, then realised it was Wintersday all over again, but worse.

Pulled all my orders and really worried now. Made a big loss on it so hopefully I don’t get in any trouble from this. Should’ve followed the saying “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is” and stick to normal trading

To those who did it way more times, they should get the appropriate justice though.

See, that’s totally different though. Just like Candycorn, Snowflakes (legit drop ones), and even Karka shells. Any time a new item is introduced into the patch that can be farmed quickly, if you sell high early on, you can buy back stock that you need when supply increases and demand decreases. That’s normal economy play of the trading post (made around 5-6 gold flipping Zhaitaffy on the first day). It also requires quite a bit of math work on the buy-low, sell-high method to avoid a lose with the 15% house take.

What’s not normal is taking something that is worth 6 gold and is a somewhat common, although still rare drop, and turning it into a 70-200g ultra-rare (exotic) drop. That’s clearly a mistake. In fact, the notes even notated that these event minis were for forging with each other to make the Colossus. Why would they so easily make some ultra-rare that’s been around since launch?

Closing this loophole in the forge only made the people who abused it more gold.

Anet screwed the pooch on this one… Big time.

People who tooled out dozens of these things and held onto them (which any smart marketmaker would do) now have a stockpile of pets that are once again worth an obscenely overpriced value that they can trickle their stock into the market for repeatedly.

Genius.

They have a way of tracking almost anything and everything. You know the whole Bigbrother scare in the world in how the governments are watching your every move? Well, in this VIRTUAL WORLD, everything you do leaves a digital trace code that can (and will be) tracked just for cases such as this (and even account restore, or other security reasons too).

My point? The guy that made 10+ Jack-o-lopes and has them in his bank right now thinking he’s safe….is not safe. What he did was already caught on the digital camera in the Mystic Forge, recorded, and sent to the development team. They’ll see the frame-by-frame of his guilty act and he’ll be banned because of it.

A few have already hit it, so I’ll mention it again:

“IF IT SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT USUALLY IS!”

P.S. If other people think that “they shouldn’t be banned for A.Net’s oversight, it’s a A.Net’s fault”, you really need to read up on your User Agreement. It states that you are not to take advantage of any exploit in the system, introduced unintentionally or otherwise.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-user-agreement/
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-rules-of-conduct/
To quote it directly: “You will not exploit any bug in Guild Wars 2 and you will not communicate the existence of any such exploitable bug (bugs that grant the user unnatural or unintended benefits) either directly or through public posting, to any other user of Guild Wars 2.”

A little courtesy goes a long ways.

In my zone I try to link the near by way point or POI and say something like “in 30 sec will trigger”. However, I’ve been getting that one person with a Greatsword who runs in and activates it and kills all the mobs. This is AFTER I mention “wait”, " more coming, please wait". They just say, RUDELY I might add, “first come, first serve.”

I must agree with the OP on this one. I would have just liked to see the Candcorn return from Halloween. That was based on a reskinned node mechanic for mining….and it worked because those are player specific nodes that everyone can hit equally without any stealing at all.

The very least that they could have done/ should have done is have had the mobs pop out and players fight, but also have a holographic gift box pop up there that could have sit at that location for the next 3 minutes. That way everyone can equally get the node even if a selfish individual snagged up the kills.

It’s not a jump puzzle. It's a preview of the next living story arc, the Aetherblade airships. Check reddit for the dat mined info about the arc.

We can agree to disagree. But my data, which is me standing by a rock that kept magically teleporting me back 3ft when I got closer to it (claustrophobic rock?), I would say that the information shows that there will be a jumping puzzle of some kind soon in the game. My data will not be broken by posted information that I choose to ignore about someone doing something they shouldn’t (data mining) for the sake of spoiling it for everyone else. For same on people finding out something that I don’t know about, will completely ignore, and treat like Bigfoot.

I don’t believe it will be a jumping puzzle. Don’t get your hopes up.

Are you sure? Did you see the image? That’s a steam-based jump pad, exactly like those in Dragon Ball. If that’s not for a jumping puzzle, then what’s it for? Is it an advanced security measure from a facility that flings invaders up into the sky and outward towards the open plains of Tyria? …..wait, that sounds just as cool as a jumping puzzle. Either way, there is some jumping involved.

Focus on the gem-store bad for the game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Siphaed.9235

A lot of guild-members got a mini pack that had 3 Holographic mini’s in them. The reason they got it because they both 500 gems somewhere between the release of the game and this was ArenaNet’s way to ’thank’them for the support.

Now I do not buy anything from in-game stores. Thats why I buy a B2P game and not a F2P game because of this sort of things. And F2P games that are doing there best to get people buying stuff from there. Hate that, so I go for a B2P game. (To bad GW2 is now also doing that more and more.. but that was expected as there is still no expansion announced. B2P games should run on the game and expansion).

Anyway, in stead of buying stuff in the gemstores I do want to support ArenaNet and so I buy the collectors edition. You know, the one that cost 105 Euro more then the normal game (how many gems can you buy for that?). But not you are smacking all those players in the face. What paying more for the game but not buying gems… You get nothing.

So my questions.. did you just forget about those people and will they still get it? Would be nice.

As a Collector’s Edition owner, I’d like to chime in on this one.
>I currently have a 1.5ft tall Rytlock statue on my shelf with a tin box case with an etched map of Tyria as a backdrop behind him.
>On a shelf on the other side I have a white-painted wooden frame print of what I can only determine to be the Durmand Priory.
>Four other prints are in custom frames in different sections of my walls.
>My desktop contain the music of Guild Wars 2 (more than just those in the CE, but still those too).
>In-game I’ve got a mini Rytlock in my bank, I’ve given my guild 2,000 influence through a commendation, and every character that I have already or will create in the future have a rare starter ring and a 5-day bank access from anywhere in the world.

Did I get my money’s worth from the Collector’s Edition? Yes. Does A.Net owe me anything beyond that for “paying more”? No.

As for this GIFT (something they were not obligated to do at all), it was done for those who have continued to support the development of this game’s additional content by purchasing stuff from the digital store. That’s CONTINUED SUPPORT. The box was paid for by the box purchase, the additional content was paid for by gem store. And thus the minis were a gift to additional content purchasers, not box purchasers. Thank you, have a nice day.

I know there’s a jumping puzzle, so when do we get to see it?

“A new rock formation now appears in the Gendarran Fields.”

I’ve found that rock formation. It’s in the south middle area, just east of the water falls. And it’s got jump pads that were model introduced with Dragon Ball. This only concludes that it’s a jumping puzzle of some kind, shape, or form.

Please BAN the exploiters!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Siphaed.9235

Okay, so there have been two exploits that have come up with this new patch.

One has already been discovered and has caused the Moa racing to be disabled. That was were apparently the Summon Lightning Hammer skill for Elementalists was stunning the moas mid-race, so that other moas would win (fixing the race, essentially). Those that were doing this should be banned. It doesn’t matter if it was an in-game oversight, something that couldn’t really be foreseen with ‘reasonable’ internal testing. They knew what they were doing was wrong, they did it anyways.

The second exploit is something my guildmates pointed out to me for the event known as DRAGON BALL. This exploit is that MANGO PIES can be eaten during each match and the boon will be usable to give a player +70 Vit, + HP regen. This is against the mechanics of the match and makes it nearly impossible to kill a player who has this buff. Again, they know they’re exploiting this (as most every boon is disabled during sPvP games and mini-games alike).

So, A.Net, will these exploiters be banned permanently or for 72hrs or what? Those with the Moa racing were exploiting something that other players spent currency on as well as something that gained them (the exploiters) more currency. That’s ECONOMY MANIPULATION! The dragon ball thing…that’s just mini-game manipulation, though they did manipulate their changes at Dragon Coffers too.

Capital cities defences

I think Divinity Reach defenses got a little problem: Do you remember the vista at the giant hole in one of the districts? At this part the wall got a huge gap there.

Yeah, someone should fix that someday.

Okay, time to way over stretch your meaning of what you’d said……

“Today, in a forum post, developer Anthony Ordon confirmed that GW2 will be seeing a major structural change to city Divinity’s Reach. In particular, the district that formerly was known as the ‘Canthan District’ -currently nothing more than a giant sink hole- will be fixed. The destroyed wall will be rebuilt and the sink hole area to be rebuilt in one of two ways: either a platform area built with structural supports above the hole, or just to rebuild the area around the hole and the wall around that.

Although the post made no mention of turning the sink hole into a dungeon related to the catacombs underneath the city (read Ghosts of Ascalon for source), there was no denying of it either. Speculation is still there that the players will see another ghost-based dungeon zone sometime in the future. The dungeon would also have water-based sections and fights because, as players already well know, the sink hole is partially flooded with water.

We’ll have more information as it comes. Attempts to contact developer Anthony Ordon for further clarification have not been answered at time of this post."

Dragon Bash: Acct Bound Weapons Tickets, why?

Siphaed.9235

Because RNG. Rewarding a lucky few to make a profit on the BLTP would be bull crap.

And yet it works in other MMO’s, for years and years it’s worked.

In WoW just a short month after TBC expansion, I’d found a very unique, epic rifle recipe. The recipe required cap-level Engineering, insane elemental drops (air….bleh!), and an item that only dropped once in a 5-man Heroic dungeon where it was rolled for and BoP (at the time it was BoP, later changed to be able to be sold or traded). That recipe allowed me to make 2 rifles for guild member Hunters, and a 3rd rifle that I’d sold for enough gold to buy the flying mount training and mount itself. But, for a while I was the go-to person on my server for that rifle because nobody else had found that recipe drop yet.

Looking at it from the perspective that EVERY SERVER IN YOUR REGION IS CONNECTED, then you must realize that if these were items to sell as Bind on Equip only, the prices would reduce greatly over a short period after they show up on the market. This is because more will be available than if it was just your server’s market alone to be measured.

Also, if you’re not rewarding players for playing the game, chance or no, then why should they play the game? Most do it for the carrot on the stick, whether they want to admit it or not.

People in this thread keep harping on the RNG when that’s not what this thread was made for. I understand RNG, it’s a common element in many MMORPG’s. Without it, everyone would have everything and there would be no special snowflakes…., only person that partially understands the question of ACCOUNT BOUND seems to be:

They’re RNG dependent because ANet has become greedy beyond belief.

And they’re account bound because every time they add limited edition weapons that can be sold, the majority end up being hoarded and sold for ridiculous amounts of money long after the event, and it does serious damage to the economy.

How so does it harm the economy, though? Adding more rare items gives players more things of medium value to spend their gold on. Right now all the event rare items fit the medium expense pricing range, while the lower range is plagued with normal materials, generally crafted exotics and the like. The highest ranged prices are awarded to precursor and legendary weapons.

It’s best that they’re hoarded to be taken by others and sold to those that want them, rather than people getting them that don’t want them and can’t get rid of them. A chance to buy them off someone who has but doesn’t want them, that’s all I ask. But….account bound, why?!

Dragon Bash: Acct Bound Weapons Tickets, why?

Q: Why are the Dragon Bash weapons that are in the chests going to be provided by specific account bound tickets -like the F&F and Southsun ones- and thus making the weapons account bound (i.e. not able to be purchased or sold on the BLTP)?

>Halloween weapons: Able to be traded, sold, and bought (and crafted with nearly 200g investment).

>The Lost Shores weapons/armor skins: Able to be traded, sold, and bought.

>Wintersday: Basic ‘wooden’ skins were free through in-game earnings, but the special sparkly skins could be bought outright from the Gem Store for a set specific price.

And when F&F came around, it switched to a crazy ticket system from the boxes that are RNG. You know, I don’t mind the RNG. I’ve played other MMO’s before where their entire premise of “End-Game” is an RNG system (WoW raids comes to mind).

What I do mind is that after 2013 started, A.Net decided to not want players to trade the weapons they luckily get from the RNG system.

Take for example on how I’d bought 10 keys to unlock chests back in March , because I want some of the unique items that come out of those (such as the unlimited AH item). Had I gotten a Molten Weapon ticket, I would have been stuck with something I did not want. Couldn’t give it to a guild member, couldn’t trade it, couldn’t sell it. WHY?!

GW 2 in WoW

Siphaed.9235

When people complain about the game not being “dynamic enough”, I cringe a bit.

First, let’s have Merriam-Webster look at it:
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dynamic
Definition of DYNAMIC
1 also dy·nam·i·cal
a : of or relating to physical force or energy
b : of or relating to dynamics (see dynamics)
2 a : marked by usually continuous and productive activity or change <a dynamic city>
b : energetic, forceful <a dynamic personality>
3 of random-access memory : requiring periodic refreshment of charge in order to retain data

Obviously 2a is the best fitting definition because most of the rest relate to energy and even the one about RAM does too (in an odd way).

So, how are the GW2 Dynamic Events not “continuous and productive activity or change”? Many times they change the NPC’s in the area, adding a unique vendor, cleaning out a certain camp of mob spawns for a time, setting up a friendly front camp, spawning a unique boss, or what have you. What’s interesting about these Dynamic Events is that they’re not static, always-there quests like in WoW (or the up coming Wildstar), where an NPC just stands there with a ‘!’ above it’s head.

That’s what makes DE’s dynamic is that they either randomly show up to change things, or in many cases are triggered by something that the player does (like talking to an NPC, picking up an object, killing something they shouldn’t have, etc.).

ON TOPIC of the video: I’d give it a 4 out of 10. Why? Because they way over emphasis hate into GW2 and show too many flaws in their script.

1) First off is that the NPC’s that run up to you asking for assistance do so as part of Dynamic Events that almost always involve action (like the farmer who has ninja-bandits stealing his livestock in Queensdale and you’re asked to help fight off the ninja-bandits….they were ninjas, right?). Only on the Hearts are like ancient quests where they have mundane tasks like watering cows or picking apples or whatever; and even those have multiple tasks players can perform, which also have action fighting as one of those.

2) The part about the loading screen is completely out of context to the game related to it. Notice that WoW’s graphical settings were optimized very low so that it would allow for near-seamless content. However, GW2 is optimized for high-end and medium end machines built within the last 3-5 years, and it has HD settings that make it’s painting looking art style just eye-watering beautiful. Do note that WoW has a load screen for every continent, every dungeon, every raid.

Any interesting videos on GW2 out there?

Old and clunky game system

Siphaed.9235

The good old days where you did not have to aim any of your skills? The lazily mmorpger days where you berry had to think or even move your hand?

You most had been born 10 years ago b/c my old days of mmorpger it took 6 moths to a year just to hit lvl cap and if you die you would lost exp and dlvl. Took 1 to 2 years just to complete 1 gear set and the game wasn’t explain 2 you, all ability and spell had no explanation you had to figure it out.

IF you ask me your generation of MMOplayer are being fed with a silver spoon.

So dont confuse me for asking for the game to have convenience over being lazy

I’m totally confused. You first come in here complaining that this game is “old and clunky” because it doesn’t allow for easily set up multi-specs, gear set swapping, and instant-change of character lay out. Then you do a full 180 and insist that players of these current-generation games are being “fed with a silver spoon” because they’re too easy….. Right, so you’re not making any sense with your argument.

If you’re looking to do a comparison to a game like say Rift -set up multiple Soul tabs to swap between- the game is built that each class can have multiple roles to play from. That, like most of the other MMO’s you most likely lump into that category of having this feature, is because those games are designed around the (UN)HOLY TRINITY known as Tank, Healer, and DPS. GW2 is not designed that way, as there are no specifically defined roles of that style.

Guild Wars 2 not doing well, True or False?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

The problem with the population is that MMO gamers have a trained one-track mind: “End Game”. That’s their ‘goal’ for a “real game” experience. They encompass the entire end-game thought into raids, dungeons, and anything that seems to ‘progress’ their character through more stats, higher gear scores, and the lot.

Although the game WoW didn’t pioneer Raiding, Dungeons, or gear progression, it did popularize it to a point that it’s programmed into consumer’s minds.

The point of that rambling? Well, it’s because Guild Wars 2 has a different style of “End-Game” to where there’s lots to the game that’s playable, yet people don’t understand it. Their brains literally don’t comprehend ‘fun’ without the pre-programmed aspects from games like WoW. Things like having WvW conflicts for the sake of server pride…unheard of… sPvP for bragging rights of winning instead of the next Tier of PvP gear….crazy …. exploration, jumping puzzles, and experiencing the game’s world because it’s there to immerse one’s self in…unbelievable! Doing story content that changes month to month to live an evolving digital world….no way!

I honestly think that the there needs to be Reset Button pushed on MMO gamers, so that they stop with the one-track mindset and play a game for the fun of it instead of for the “shinnies” of it. Right now they (the gamers) portray more as Skritt rather than rationally thinking Asura.

EB-Jumping Puzzle RUINED by split

Siphaed.9235

Who’s very bright idea (sarcastic) was it to put 3 Way-Points right next to each other and have a near instant spawn in tkitten JP?

This is a matter of really poor design. See, in the old design the JP required someone Way-Point out to their normal EB spawn or their Keep if it had a WP. After they did that, it required a bit of travel (roughly 10-30sec) to the portal and then some additional seconds to load the JP.

What that meant was that if your server wiped some other group, you’d have ample time to move through a portion of the jumping puzzle before they were able to reach the JP again and are able to fight you again.

The new design? Doesn’t allow anything close to it. People just die and spawn, die and spawn at a near infinite rate. This is a never-ending spawn camp that for some reason attracts players to just stay there forever.

Possible solution: Immunity Buff within the entire area of the spawn platforms, the whole area below them, and an additional 10ft leading to the stairs, cliffs, and out cropping.

Whatever the solution is devised, please find one soon. Tkitten JP used to be a fun place that was a great PvP distraction from the monotonous player-vs-door siege play. Now it’s just trash.

Thanks for adding to the problem. It’s these reasons why Anet will never get rid of stupid things like RNG chests. Because people keep buying them up.

Go ahead and buy more. Don’t expect anything though. Don’t you love when they lock new content behind RNG (or lottery if you want to call it that)?

Excuse you, but you’re wrong. They add this new content to convince people to purchase it to help pay for the FREE CONTENT. The content that was added to the game in the way of new Dynamic Events, story lines, extended locations, free back-slot items, new mini-games, new WvW items, and more. All these things are free and paid for by the Gem Store items; because without that Gem Store we would not have monthly content updates.

As another to look at it, as an adult, understand that you’re still getting far more for a $1 spent in the Gem store on chests than you are getting in putting that $1 in a slot machine for a single roll with the outcome of 0.

P.S. I know I’m going to get slapped with “but why don’t they just sell the weapons directly on the gem store for a set price? I’d buy them that way.”. So, I’ll explain it as this: Part of being in an MMORPG is becoming a unique individual by way of look, style, and play. If everyone was able to obtain these weapons equally, nobody would look unique and they’d have no rarity to them. (i.e. see how everyone in L.A. is right now either wearing a flower or tentacles on their backs).

The developers made an exact comment about this during the Beta Weekends when the NDA was lifted for that footage.

Basically the answer is: No.

Why?

Because it’s not your game, it’s theirs. Sure you’re playing it. But you’re still asking to make money off of their property., which isn’t right.

Now, a show like Bog Otter’s, which is 80% him in front of the camera, and 20% showing certain aspects of the game (new gem store items, new gear, new story lines, etc.) is okay to monetize because it’s mostly him and not gameplay. That’s the major difference.

Update on Arrow Carts in WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Siphaed.9235

Siphaed.9235

Greetings WvW players!

We are aware that there has been a great deal of controversy about the recent changes to arrow carts. One change that is happening in today’s build will be a reduction in the amount of damage arrow carts do to siege weapons. While we believe the damage to players is in line with what we want it to be, we do think that we overshot a bit on the range of the arrow carts once they have been upgraded. We intend to change the arrow cart upgrade line to bring the numbers more in tune with what we intended the whole of siege weapons to be, but we felt that it would be unfair to make that change until we were able to provide all players with a reset of their spent World Ability Points, allowing people to reallocate them however they choose. To that end, we will not be making the adjustment to the range of the upgraded skills until we are able to implement a one-time reset of said points. This will make it so that everyone who upgraded arrow carts can decide if they still wish to put their hard earned points into that spot, or spend them elsewhere after the change. This reset is a special event because we feel it is unfair to make changes to lines once people have put points in them. Hopefully this explains the method behind the madness and we hope you continue to fight the good fight on behalf of your realm!
Cheers!

Devon Carver

Now I call that entirely a bunch of bull, right there! As a mastery in Ballistas, even with a measly 50% damage reduction for arrowcarts, they still currently max-range my ballista and destroy before it’s deployed properly by supplies. That’s totally, 100% SCREWED UP!

Why wait? Right now it’s not “unfair” to those that decided to spend their points, as they’ll get more points in the long-run anyways. Right now it’s completely UNFAIR to everyone else that has to deal with this clearly, ADMITTEDLY outreached ranged that’s far beyond the intended range.

And 50% damage reduction to siege? Really?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! So instead of destroying siege in 30sec, it’ll be destroyed in 1 minute? Why not 80% damage reduction like what was done to player abilities when hitting doors so that Rams became useful….do you not recall that?

It maybe an evil, but a necessary evil to balance the servers because ARROWCARTS ARE NOT ANTI-SIEGE DEVICES! They should be doing minimal damage to siege at best. A trebuchet can take 300,000 arrows hitting it and still fire it’s load to the enemy…because it’s wood, and the arrows just barely stick into the wood…..NOT FLESH (i.e. personal, which is what an arrowcart is for).

there is nothing to say that that poster is actually official, and the writing doesn’t sound like the consortium’s usual legalese: “our medical experts will be happy to ignore you if the need arises”? like hell the consortium would say that.

plus, it just looks so unprofessional, light blue comic sans writing? not even the consortium are THAT evil. (plus, they want to make southsun a relaxing tropical resort, not a kids pirate adventure land)

sorry, but I’ll have to call BS, snarky as we can be about ANet, I don’t think any of us think they’d make concept art or release materials THAT godawful

Are you sure about that?

See…it’s in-game in New Krytan. They just translated to English and repurposed it back onto a similar poster. These posters are scattered all around the camp in the South-Eastern most tip of Southsun Cove.

Translate it yourself if you feel you don’t trust me: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/New_Krytan
