I’m both intrigued and concerned about the league system. My concern does stem from the idea that winning servers may be stacked, but really, it’s been like that way for a while anyway. If the winners’ rewards are really worth one or even two transfers, that’s a problem, but it sounds like the rewards you gain throughout the season might be more important.

I do not understand the “sky is falling” mentality on the forums right now.

The finisher is like a trophy you pass on to the next winners? I like that a lot. Cool execution.

We’ve received two reasons from arenanet for ascended gear:

-bridge the time gap between exotic and legendary.
^^This is hilarious. If you are someone that simply wanted BiS gear, and had no desire for a legendary..then with exotic you had BiS gear. You werent going after the legendary. I also find this logic double-edged…to bridge the time gap. Well, we’ll be spending ectos and time garnering the requirements for ascended weapons and accessories…ectos that could have been used toward your legendary. IMO, this slows down the path to legendary. Silly. Its meant to bridge the gap. But it really just made the gap wider.

-Ascended gear is meant for fractals. You need Agony Resist to withstand the lazy mechanic the devs throw at us in fractals. Dont need ascended anywhere else in game. Funny, because fractals are quite abandoned right now. Same maps since November. I rarely see anyone looking for a fractal group anymore. Everyone is off doing invasions or some other dumb LS achievement.

Thanks, I hadn’t heard these specific reasons. I find the first fascinating because there isn’t just time between exotic and legendary but an enormous dedication to all aspects of the game. If ascended gear’s in the middle somewhere it’ll be interesting to see exactly where.

As for the second, I don’t buy it because they’re removing MF and so could easily add an agony resist stat without adding a new tier. I know lots of people who love fractals. I just don’t see how this is necessary.

To put it bluntly, ArenaNet went with a CMYK color scale to base their tiers off of. At launch, we had Cyan, Green, Yellow, Orange, Purple. They were missing one step between orange and purple so they added Magenta tier.

It was never about stats. It was about OCD. Now that we have both the primary and secondary colors of the CMYK color wheel, we’re good. No more tiers.

I like this explanation more than anything else I’ve read.

I’m curious about the purpose of ascended gear and weapons. They’re not necessary in PVE because we’ve been managing it with less for a year. They’re problematic in WvW for various reasons. So what is the purpose? Is it to give people more crafting, for the people who enjoy that? Is it to prepare us for a level 80+ area (seems unlikely if no expansion, but I don’t know)?

I’ve read the latest blog post. It says the new crafting materials “send players out into the world and make our existing content more rewarding.” So they want to give us reason to explore again. Is that it?

3 months!? Good god no. Please no. The switch at the end of the week always draws people back in to see what the new matchup is like. And at the lower tiers we’ve had some matchups that would make 3 months feel like 3 years.

OP, I play on your server and your look is renowned in my guild. We love running with you in wvw. I hope you can find a way to keep your look, because it’s amazing.

I love the idea of a cyanide pill for skill 5. I hate sitting there in pve watching some stupid centaur hit me with a wet noodle taking 2 hp at a time. Killllll meeeee.

However in wvw it must still give credit to your enemy and rally others if relevant. There should be no way to get around this, and there’s no reason to.

From what I’ve read, people most wanted the infinite tools and Rox & Braham’s weapons, especially the quiver, so this is good stuff. Thanks for the info.

One thing is, do we think Scarlet is completely done now? We have her short story to show her history, but like people say, it doesn’t actually reveal her plan. Her invasions don’t reveal much either, though she does seem organized. Are we assuming we’ll never see more to her plans, and that this is it: chaos? I wonder. I wish I knew.

The problem is, they don’t. There is barely anything negative about the Sylvari, especially no conflict. Or can you give me a valid source of anything ingame that alludes to this conflict?

The first thing that came to mind is Gixx (I think that’s who it is?) the leader of the priory, and his reaction to Magister Sieran. Regardless of how irresponsible she is, his reaction to her is over the top racist. A lot of people in-game and out don’t mind throwing around the gentler “salad head” term.

I agree with the person who says Mary Sue is being overly used. A Mary Sue was originally a character written in fanfic that was unbelievably perfect because it was the author’s fantasy, for example in my mind I’m Kirk’s best friend, Spock’s apprentice, and McCoy’s lover. If I wrote that character it’d be a Mary Sue. Lately the term has been used to describe any too-perfect character, which isn’t right. If a character has no flaws, it’s a poorly written character, not a Mary Sue.

Sylvari are difficult to like because they’re new, overly chipper (Sieran), given a lot of credit for nothing (Trahearne), and their whole existence is threatening (the pale tree, telepathy, etc.) Personally I like the conflict they bring to Tyria.

Konig pretty much nailed it I think. One thing I’d add is that my necromancer never actually kills people expressly to make them minions, and any minions she makes are cobbled together from bits, almost like she had organ donors. It seems necromancers are more about using dead stuff and disease in a useful way, than creating undead armies by force ala Zaitan.

I think she’s neat: a sylvari, so very young, intelligent and ambiguous enough to blow past every race’s interpretation of success and genius, finally learning enough that it drives her batty. I wouldn’t want her as a real life enemy, that’s for sure.

If it works for you OP I’d say its a pretty good explanation for how the personal story goes toward the end. I didn’t see it that way, but anything that justifies the story is helpful, because it is a little problematic to say “It’s all about you” and then introduce Trahearne as they did.

My interpretation was that he’s a figurehead, someone who doesn’t necessarily do everything he’s given credit for but has to stay there in Orr to be seen while my character (and others of importance) are allowed to leave and fulfil other duties or basically just get to live our lives. If I was the commander I wouldn’t be able to hang out in Lion’s Arch, putter around metrica province, complete living story stuff… whatever. Trahearne as figurehead gives me freedom, and my brothers and sisters at arms support that because they know if they insisted I stay in Orr from level 60 on or whatever I’d feel utterly trapped and resentful, dragon menace or no.

Actually my explanation kind of has overlap with yours I think.

My guardian has recently become my very first heavy armor wearer to get to top level. And I don’t know if it’s because I’m playing her a lot or adjusted the sound balance without realizing, but I’ve just noticed something:

She clanks.

The armor clanks when I walk, run, jump. This is marvellous. I’m blown away by the attention to detail and it’s cool she has her own “thing” since all my other characters wear cloth or leather.

Yeah, I think they’re gorgeous. I’d love the rifle one, or the shield. Good luck OP, hope you get one!

Hmm, did Anet say they didn’t like zergs? I’m really interested to read that if anyone knows where.

I’m wary of things like “So if you karma train and take 5 towers but loose also 5 in the same tick you don’t get anything” because sometimes it’s all we can do to keep flipping towers as a bigger server tears around our map trying to paint it green. It would be nice if we could defend, but defending with six against sixty is very difficult when your supply has been cut off.

I’m glad it’s not just my server. The shinies are so shiny in pve right now it feels like we’ve lost everyone, even those who don’t think wvw sucks now, is dying, etc. I’m putting a lot of nervous hope into tonight’s announcements.

I’m not actually sticking up for them, but your analogy needed to be fixed.

They’ve been putting things back and forth between and account and soulbound lately, eg. the Queen’s Gauntlet tickets that have changed twice already, weapon skins, etc. It seems like they’re trying to work out what’s best. I wouldn’t worry too much about this as it’ll likely change later if it isn’t good how it is.

I only invite to say gg… or to unnerve people who don’t know who’s joining their group. I like it.

It’s true there’s a tonne of childish behaviour in wvw. I’m not sure you’ve mentioned any of it though. The things you’re mentioning are just playing the game, albeit in ways that annoy you.

This made me think: could you imagine the note comes up, “Scarlet’s minions are attacking the Eternal Battleground!” Suddenly every bl has a queue as every person in Lion’s Arch tries to get into wvw. Especially the people who’ve never been before. Especially the pve commanders! It’s funny enough watching full zerkers fight against crown pavilion champions. This would be marvellous. I’d pop popcorn and sit on a keep wall. Hee!

I know you didn’t suggest this OP but it’s where my mind went.

Mine is gone and I submitted a bug report in game but I knew this thread was going on so I didn’t open a support ticket. Does anyone know if that’s necessary? I don’t want to not get it back because I wasn’t vocal enough, or something.

I’m so glad for the end of culling. I feel like there were all these ghosts around me before and now I can finally see them. Wait, that sounds more creepy than anything. Well—I like seeing them. I love the crowd.

This animation surprised me too OP. I don’t mind the initial movement but I’m confused by how she locks into place totally still for the end of it. It makes no sense, like she’s suddenly frozen. I’d like a little more movement then so she still looks alive. The other fighting animations are so fluid and realistic (well, within game-type reality!)

I understand some people don’t like the colours or find them painful. I also understand that there have been multiple “hey don’t you care about the colourblind people?!” threads on this forum and this addresses some of that. So whether I love the colours or not, I’m happy it helps people and I’d rather learn to deal with it than say some other people aren’t even allowed to play the game.

Yeah, it is a money choice, this is true. I think they’re trying to address it lately with extra drops and stuff, it’s just unfortunate it’s happening at the same time pve has became so much more lucrative. I’m hardcore wvw and even I’m having trouble keeping my focus off the shinies.

I thought they went for an interesting halfway point with at least one part of this event: the shoulders. After defeating Scarlet you get a choice of a stack of 40 thingies or a few boxes with a potential drop. If you save enough thingies you definitely get the shoulders, so if you don’t like rng you go that route, whereas people who don’t mind random can go for the box reward.

Jeez guys. The events are happening every hour for a couple of weeks, but you missed the first so it’s bad game design? Owch.
