Okay you played TESO why don’t you write about it on the TESO forums and give them feedback about the game?
Mostly because he is saying “I played this other game but darn it felt good to come back to this one.”
Yes, exactly.
I also didn’t want to bring up another game and start a specific debate/comparison, I just felt good coming home.
No, I think the gem store is great. It isn’t pay to win, and it doesn’t make it feel like a free to play game supported by a billion microtransactions. It’s good.
Pigeons are doves! Just doves with mangled feet and dirty feathers. But doves! Honest.
Nice screenshot.
I was playing a certain game’s beta this weekend, spending hours trying to figure out if I was having fun or not. When it was over I logged into GW2, and it felt like coming home again. <3
I get about 8 in London UK so I’m confident the EU servers (or at least Blacktide and Deso) are closer than the US. I get ~112 to the NA servers. Curious that it’s so high for you!
This video shows the route to get that vista, and most of the others: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYcjCjQYK5Y
Heal O Tron to the rescue! (speculations)

Heal o Tron will become Optimus Tron and sacrifice himself to help the heroes kill off Scarlet. His unlocking the Matrix of Rata Sum will light our darkest hour.
Then Optimus Tron backpacks will be available in the Gem Shop later, as a way of Evon honoring his actions.
Whatever happens, if I don’t get a SomethingTron backpack soon I’m going to cry.
I can’t be sure, but I think that person in your chat is saying they’d rather you killed the mobs so they rally off the mob death. It’s a reasonable way to do it, since it tends to be quick and doesn’t risk your own life.
I’ll res downed, but ressing totally dead people usually results in my own death, so I tend not to unless it’s safe. I’m happy to say I’ve seen a lot of good in this event so far, with people being ressed, and people sharing AOE heals as we run for the exit at the end, so I don’t think the community is totally rotten yet.

If you find Heal O Tron near Vigil’s Keep and follow him for a while you get a little reveal about what might come: it looks like he has an idea about how to stop the miasma, and since he’s wanted by the law, he goes to Evon Gnashblade for parts.
“Infection can be counteracted by subaether harmonics in a localized energy field”… then he asks Evon for a combat chassy and an energy amplifier. Oh Heal O Tron, don’t do anything stupid!
(Edited because I’d thought it said mobilized energy field at first.)

I just broke up a duel outside one of the tower on the EOTM map. I didn’t mean to, but I don’t tend to read map chat when I’m fighting, so I missed my ally telling me they were dueling until I’d almost killed the enemy.
I’m not here to debate whether dueling or interrupting duels is ok or etc, but it did make me think, and I wanted to point out some of the awesome places there are for dueling on this new map. The one that comes immediately to my mind is just south when you leave Frostreach’s keep. It’s a tower you need to jump to get to, but the jumping “puzzle” is super obvious. You’d definitely not get interrupted if you wanted to spar with someone, and the terrain is a lot of fun.
If anyone else wants to post their favourite found dueling places, please do!
We are at the beginning stages of overhauling our cinematic tools. It’s still very early on, so you wont see anything big for quite some time…In the meantime, you should see a gradual improvement in the quality of cut-scenes as the cinematic and writing team strengthen our collaboration efforts.
Cool, thanks for letting us know.
I like the shield. It’s very fairy tale, which doesn’t suit every character, but it’s very cool. I keep expecting the wicked queen’s mirror to show up in that pink glow.
I really like her too. I find she gives Braham a lot more character by association, also. Kudos!
What about your favorite Non main NPCs!

I feel really sad for all the creatures that have settled in LA and started to call it home. There’s a blue hylek near the bank who’s just happy to have a new place to live. Aw.
I’m not convinced it’ll happen, but this isn’t a terrible theory. The scratch is a bit of a Chekov’s gun.
Hmm… I’m not sure I agree. In some of the personal story quests they skip to cutscenes here and there and it’s extremely frustrating to be fighting and suddenly pulled out so they can show me what’s going on over the wall, or that there’s a dragon approaching. Claw Island is particularly annoying for this. Though I see your side of it OP, I’d rather stay in control of my character, get to walk around as the conversations take place, take a seat, turn my back, take a screenshot… I like being a part of it that way.
Those Aetherblade ships could fly over that Tengu wall… hmm, they might have a reason to help us out. Ooh. Ok, I don’t know if this is remotely possible, but now I want it.
I didn’t find it to come out of nowhere. Like most relationships I’m not a part of, I noticed it at a certain point, and it was happening just a little bit before I noticed. I’m not bothered, because I much prefer this to the “Will they, won’t they?” type of storytelling, where characters argue at each other as everyone else goes “Oooh, look, they lurve each other.”
I logged in to sympathize with you because sometime my ele says things like “Behold the power of fire!” and “Air!” and stuff, and they can grate on you when the other aesthetics are so good. But then I read your next comment.
So the developers don’t listen to player feedback at all, they do very little to improve their game, and you get an infraction for mentioning this fact. Yeah, I don’t think I’m going to play this game anymore.
So it seems like you’re already done here.
Yop, tested it, and if you WP in first fall, there is no fall damage, but if you wp after (in second fall), you take armor damage.
That’s interesting. So if you can be very quick, you can avoid the cost. This seems like one isn’t intentional.
If any devs are reading this, my feedback is to make it the same, ie take away the armor damage in both situations, since there’s no apparent reason one should have it.
(edited by Sitkaz.5463)
If you fall and are not in combat, you usually have enough time to WP…
I’ve tried this, but my armor is still damaged.
Throughout the game it seems pretty standard that your armor is damaged when you die in a fight, but not from falling damage. But in the edge of the mists, falling off the side of the thing causes armor damage that needs to be repaired.
I know it’s not a huge cost, but I wish it didn’t. I don’t mind if another player knocks me off, but if I’m just exploring and fall, it makes more sense for it to be like usual and not have the cost.
It is probably there to discourage people (or entire zergs) from just leaping off the cliff the moment they see a group heading at them.
Ah.. this is a good point. I just wish it didn’t discourage exploring the map, too. I guess once I know it as well as I know the other maps it won’t be such an issue.

I read the new blog post about the upcoming changes when Edge of the Mists is introduced and my jaw hit the floor. Then I actually laughed out loud.
the button will indicate the number of players already in the queue and allow you to join the queue for the map. Once you are queued, your position will be updated in the UI screen so that you can see how many players there are ahead of you
the right-click context menu that may be used for party invites and other social functions will now correctly show more options than just “report”
This is just… it’s just awesome. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Yeah, some people will say “It should have been that way since launch” etc but the point is it wasn’t, but it will be now, hooray, hooray hooray, huzzah.
I ran the game client as an administrator and it seems to be downloading at a much more reasonable rate. Try this, guys.
Anyone know how big the new patch is? Usually my updates take seconds to download. This one is at 35mb and counting, slowly downloading, says 0%. It’s like it’s downloading the whole game again or something.
There’s a lot of discussion about how to remove zergs from wvw because they’re the worst thing in this type of gameplay. I submit that they aren’t. Big mercenary guilds are the worst.
I started playing on Blacktide when we were something like 24/27 in EU servers. I had no idea wvw could be any other way. I ran around with my small social guild. I was told we used to be number 1 once upon a time, before “all our big guilds left.” BT has a few other issues, such as constant sniping between English and Polish speakers, but when we all shut up it was pretty fun. And there are some excellent commanders (Azrael Shan, Vidar, I’d follow you guys into hellfire… and often did.)
Then Bt War came along. A serious wvw guild that did training etc, they recruited with the slogan DON’T GIVE UP ON BLACKTIDE WVW! They recruited a lot. I joined them temporarily, until I was told I had to always represent, and I didn’t want to permanently leave my small social guild of friends. Although there were still a good number of skilled pugs, Bt War became huge.
And just before wvw season 1 started, they transferred to a higher server.
It wasn’t that we missed their commanders, because Azrael, Vidar, Mrok etc were still with us. But they’d recruited for people who really cared for wvw, and then ran off with them. Apparently this is pretty much the same thing that happened to send us from number 1 to number 24.
I stuck with BT through season 1 because like I said, our commanders are great and we have a lot of skilled pugs anyway. New blood coming in to get achieves was also a help. Like me previously, they had no idea it could be any different and they fought, and we did okay. We came in 5th when we could have done much worse. We could have done much better, of course. A lot of that new blood drained away when the achieves were over, and when they realized what tier they were in. When the season ended it became obvious there were too few dedicated wvwers left to be the server we were before Bt War took so many. Probably it’ll recover, eventually, until another big guild does the same thing.
I stayed a while longer and eventually even the few people in my social guild I liked to wvw with transferred, so I did too. I went to silver tier, wondering if it would be so different. I’m thrilled that I can now play wvw more often with more people, but I see some of the same things anyway. On this higher tier server it doesn’t destroy us, but it still has an effect. Big guilds still leave on a whim and depress the population. It doesn’t matter what happens behind the windmill, or in OS, or whether that group of 20 can still wipe that blob at 7pm on Thursdays. The commander starts to bleed the pugs they have, meaning less coverage, fewer battles won, and more fairweathers fleeing the field.
tldr: When morale plummets the server suffers, and guild transfers take big chunks out of communities, which destroys morale and makes wvw suck.
Thanks for your replies, guys. The person who signed up the guild has gone AWOL so I think I’m hooped for now, but when he’s back I’ll see what we can do.
Oh man, Sitkaz, you startled me. I saw “Canada isn’t on the list” and thought we’d somehow dropped it from the registration options. Which would be incredibly rude of us, towards our marvelous neighbors to the north!
I’m glad you got the answers to your question, and wish you well in your move.
Haha, then I really would be complaining! But nothing so bad. And thank you.
Ah my post overlapped with your Farming Flats. Thanks for the reply.
Okay, I’ve done more digging and I’ve come up with an answer. I guess I jumped the gun asking but maybe this will help someone else, or it can be deleted!
My answer is: I must use an EU billing address, so an EU credit card, to buy the game here. If I play it here, it’ll check I’m in the EU, but I can buy gems with a Canadian credit card.
My guild got into the Edge of the Mists beta test, and everyone has received their invite and details except me. I’ve checked my spam folder thoroughly and I suspect either me or the person who entered all our details into the form must have messed up my email address.
Does anyone know if there’s a way to check or fix this, someone to contact to confirm, or am I just out of luck and won’t get to try the beta?
I’m living in the UK and will be moving back to Canada. I was excited about the holiday sale and thought I’d get another copy of the game with my Canadian credit card so I could start clean on an NA server.
Unfortunately since I’m currently in the UK the drop down list does not show Canada as an option and the form refuses to allow Canadian information for me to use my Canadian credit card. Is there any official way around this? Is it intended?
Thanks for any assistance.
Edited to clarify: I realize I can just buy an EU version and choose a NA server. My problem is using my Canadian funds for the game rather than my UK funds. I don’t mind paying the extra cost for VAT etc, but I want to ensure I link the account to Canada, not the EU.
Related to this, does anyone know if payment methods for gems are based on where you bought the game or where you are at the time? I know I can’t use my Canadian credit card in game right now to buy gems, and I assumed it was because it’s an EU copy, but maybe it’s because of my IP?

Excellent question. Maybe better for the guardian subforum but I’m interested in the replies.
Sorry to bring up such an old thread, but this has recently been changed to a more noticeable sound and text on the screen and I’m really happy about it. Thanks!
I like the one in the wvw borderlands. It takes a bit longer but I can keep an eye on the fight as I go.
They can’t make those finishers permanent, or they’ll have every wvw player stacked on 3 severs and no game.
I like the idea of a statue, op, or something else like that as a little tribute.
It appears the wvw reward dolyak is very different than the mystic forge gem one. It’s smaller and it’s a mini adult dolyak rather than a calf. I have it and I’m still tempted by the christmas cutie.
That’s kind of interesting. I mean yeah, we need more detail, but does anyone know if a dragon can ever incarnate as something that doesn’t look like a dragon? Do they always awaken as the same creature?
I think the real problem with the chest wasn’kittens contents but our anticipation of it, and our expectations. We knew about the mini, and we knew there were “rewards based on server performance.” Then we carried this mysterious key around for a while, sometimes weeks, and it got built up in people’s minds. Sort of a Christmas morning fantasy that could never live up to our imaginations.
I don’t understand people who thought we’d get ascended weapons. That’s totally off the scale. I do understand people who thought we’d get a unique weapon skin or something, because of the special key. But actually the chest was more in line with other achievement chests, except for the little detail of us wondering and imagining about it for so long. The key was just a way to show we’d done it while we were waiting for the season outcome, but we gave it more weight than that.
Lesson learned, anyway. We got a mini, a title, a tonne of AP, and a little bit of loot where otherwise we’d have gotten nothing. The ascended materials were a nice touch, not unlike the meta reward for Fractured. The rewards weren’t unacceptable at all, we were just expecting more.
Yeah, I adore my little dolyak too. So cute!
Depending on your local area in real life, it is likely socially “questionable” to wear this outfit out on the streets to say the least. You would get a few looks to say the least and even more cat calls. That said, the attire’s risque nature is hardly quantifiable. You can’t measure sexiness, inappropriate content, or any abstract concept objectively. It’s determined by society. A group of people rather than the individual. So far, all the participants in this thread SEEM to think you are being ridiculous, and frankly, you are. The clothing is clearly liked by the large and varied community who play the game. I could cite every post in this thread and then go into Lions Arch for a half hour and spot hundreds who shelled out the money for this particular tier 3 alone. Many nationalities, genders and alignments find the armor suitably tasteful despite it’s inclusion of underboob. Most of those who would shake their head in disapproval in real life, aren’t even part of the audience. You claim that people are offended. Please cite some examples. Bring some people in here who dislike the armor besides yourself. Then you are representing a part of society. Then we can have a intelligent discussion on the pros and cons of this armor, social decency, and free will. Until then all your opinions are simply that.
I loathe the armor. There, now you can have an intelligent discussion. Apparently.
Wonderful news for all us altaholics! Thank you!
Strangely enough, the bottom of it looks pretty great matched with my sylvari cultural T2. Heh. I’m worried it’ll be taken away now, because it seems pretty clear a lot of people are, ah, not happy about this at all. Understatement?
I have my wvw season 1 achievement now, and my Veteran of the Mists title is the one I’m most proud and pleased with in the whole game. This is because I spend most of my time in wvw, but this is the only wvw title I have so far. I’m looking forward to the rework of the other wvw achieves so other titles are also possible.
It makes me think a few things. First, I hope the title for the second league season is different somehow, because it feels special that I’m playing through this, the very first season. It actually surprised me that the title wasn’t “Premier Season Veteran” or whatever the meta achievement is actually called. It would be disappointing if every season has the same title reward.
I also wonder if this achievement might be a good thing to link in to wvw commander tags. People complain that 100 gold doesn’t mean you have any experience at all, so maybe asking that wvw commander tags (not PVE commander tags, of course) require this achievement would be worthwhile exploring.
(Edited to clarify it’s wvw titles I’m interested in, not pve)

In threads like these there’s always someone patiently explaining that it’s like this because “mostly straight guys play the games.” Like some guy standing at the door to a strip club saying “We only have the strippers because for some reason only straight guys come in here…”
My bone pick has a lovely sucking slicing sound when it’s drawn that I was sure was unique. You don’t hear that?
The difference in many things can be put down to personal taste, but the choice between making ‘a solid chunk of metal armor’ versus ‘a sexy slice of metal across your naughty bits complete with high heels’ is a whole other issue, and actually has a lot to do with the choice between giving a warrior a full or open helm. I’m saying: the female armor here probably has an open helm because otherwise the rest of the open parts would seem that much more over the top.
(edited by Sitkaz.5463)
Welcome. You probably aren’t used to reading that because most of the response to you guys coming into wvw for the achievements has been negative, but honestly, lots of us (people who’ve been playing wvw for a while) are happy to have new comrades.
I do have something I’d like to say as you join the fight.
Dying is part of wvw, much more so than in pve. You aren’t a bad player if you die. You are if you run away at every chance of a fight, though, so practice getting used to dying, and as you practice you might find you die less. There has been a rise in running away since the league season began, and I suspect that’s about a lack of confidence rather than sheer jerk-heartedness. I’m pretty sure most people run a lot when they begin wvw. It can be terrifying to have other players attacking you if that isn’t what you’re used to. But we need to watch each other’s backs, and it’s depressing to be the person who thought they were in a random 5v5 and then turns around to find they’re left 1v5. Also, if you’re running you’re not fighting, and that gives enemies a much easier time taking you out.
Of course, sometimes you should run. If you’re in a 1v5, run!
People might disagree with me, but I think the point about letting yourself die is one of the most important to know when you’re diving into wvw. And I do mean my “welcome.” I’m glad you guys are giving this game mode a chance, because it surprised me way back when I found out it was actually my favourite part of Guild Wars 2, and now I can’t imagine the game without it. You might find that too. Good luck, have fun.
