I personally think that daily is a very anti-casual mechanic because it creates a urge to login everyday to do the daily, which feels like a chore/job. While I know that no one is forced to do them, the reward offered is quite a bit, which would make people do them just to keep up with inflation and what not.
That’s not to say that the daily doesn’t have any benefit because it do. It helps people with little play time to keep up with other players.
So, why not remove daily, add weekly with more generous completion requirement? This would ensure that casual who miss a day or two can still get the full weekly amount and without affecting the more dedicated players. Additionally, I would also suggest to lower the monthly completion requirement to better accommodate casual players. Partial completion should yield rewards too.
What are your thoughts?
I noticed that there is a 30% off GW2 promotion going on, and I thought its a great chance to buy one for one of my friend as a gift. However, i do not have a credit card but i do have paypal, which is an accepted form of payment. But every time i select paypal as the payment method, the 30% discount is automatically removed. When I click on credit card method after i click paypal, the 30% discount also disappears. Any known fix/workaround to this?

I do not believe that the items or gold will reappear. But… can you let me know? I’m certainly interested if things don’t work as I believe they do.
Sure, i will let you know the result once the agent restored my account. But i do hope your wrong tho.
My account recently got hacked and I lost all my gold and items and banned. I submitted a support ticket and support unblocked my account and offered me a account restoration. Of course, i took the offer but i do have a curious question.
What happens to the items and gold on the TP?
I remember having a lot of item on sale on the TP(which of course, the hacker harvested) and if my account was rollbacked, will those item i originally put up on sale, suddenly be on the TP again?
Being a rather poor person myself, I’m quite glad that the overwhelming majority of people said no. It goes to show that the MMO market really has changed over the years and hopefully for the better.
i think a lot of times people are overreacting at the cost of paying a monthly subscription for an MMO. Folks pay 15 dollars for a meal at their nearest restaurant or grab that crappy Mcdonlads value meal they shouldnt be eating for 7.99 or whatever i is. but complain about a $15 subscription. If you eliminate the unecessities and bad habits then $15 is really nothing. This is PER MONTH. People are ordering pizza every weekend or whatever and spend much more on a weekend for food/fun than a subscription cost
That’s how I used to justify spending hundreds on WoW too. Then I realize that video game(virtual good) =/= food (essential goods). Also, there’s a lot of f2p or b2p alternatives but free 2 eat alternative doesn’t exist for food…
If this game was subscription based, would you be willing to pay to play this game monthly? Why or why not?
Do you think GW2 would have flopped if it was launched as a subscription game?
Can’t Gems be won trough paid PvP? If yes and if the amount is big enough that the price of the tickets don’t pay for the Gems won, my answer is no, the expansions should be paid with money only.
I think total ticket gem cost is higher than rewarded amount.
Programmers, designers, graphics artists, music composers, play testers, quality assurance personnel can’t be paid in Gems. So no. I’d rather give them money for them to be able to continue to work on the game.
Gems does not appear out of nowhere when u convert gold to gem. It comes from another player converting gem to gold.
Facts:
-We understand that gem could be accumulated by exchanging gold for it.
-We also know that these gems that’s being exchanged directly comes from another player and is not created out of thin air.
-The digital deluxe could be purchased with gem
So, should expansions be purchasable with gems and do you think that it will?
Is it possible to upgrade uncommon to rare in the MF? If so, how are the odds?
Expansions will not be here for 3+ years.
What makes you say that?
Guild Wars Prophecies was released on April 28, 2005.
Guild Wars Factions on April 28, 2006
Guild Wars Nightfall on October 27, 2006
and Guild Wars Eye of the North on August 31, 2007
That’s three expansions within about a three year time span, the first of which occurred one year after the game’s initial release.
Common sense dictates that expansion will not come out within 3yrs. First, the game director already confirm that they are NOT actively working on the expansion, they dont have a dedicated team on it, they are using all their resource to push on new content monthly. They already have the first 6 month planned out in new content, and more to come in the future, suffice to say that they will focus on the original game for at least 1 year. Next, Gw1 cant be compared to Gw2 in terms of scale, a massive game like Gw2 is going to require more time, and needed at least 1.5year of dedicated programming to meet the quality we expect, and then addition time for internal testing, betas, etc. Even when they work on the expansion, they will most likely still push out new content every once in a while = more delay in the expansion.
Expansions will not be here for 3+ years.
I said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s a free freaking country and I fought for it to be that way…so how can anet tell me that my thread needed to be removed?
I don’t like the PvP system in this game so what?
A noob can get all the gear and stats from just logging in? Really? I don’t about you but everything good in this life comes from working for it, not getting a handout!
a few problems…
1. You didn’t fought for what you thought you did. It might be a “free” country in retrospect to the government but Anet is a private entity and unless required by law, it has no obligation to make the benefit of “free democracy” within its property.
2. You chose the wrong game. This game is design around skill base competition in regards to pvp and not gear base. If you enjoy pew pewing people who simply doesn’t stand a chance due to gear, then there are plenty of MMORPG out there just for you. You get to show off look, not stats.
No, expansion should add more option or limit your option.
But we wont see an expansion for at least 3 years.
I think merging all servers in PVE, creates a much more thriving and living world that people would want to engage in. It allows you to fully experience the world, while meeting tons of new people you would otherwise never meet. So i whole heartily support this idea.
Would you guys want to see all servers merged in PVE only? Why or why not?
I don’t get it. what’s the problem with level 39 fractals?
Agony = 1 shot U, i believe.
Couple reasons.
1. The new patch encourages people to go out and explore the world once more, = less sitting in LA
2. The patch increased the drop rate of T6 bags = more supply
3. The patch is 1gb+, a large amount of consumer has yet to login
4. A large amount of investors that contributed to maintain the stability of market has allocated their resource elsewhere, which is why many markets crashed, and if i correctly assume the market they invested in, then their wealth should almost doubled.
Many market has apparently crashed, as we are now entering global market recession…
Help restore the market by being a consumer and investor today!
This update is like multi-Gigabyte, WTF, do the dev not know how to optimize coding?
Two things:
First, Al Lowe (a former Sierra Online programmer) said a long while ago that he would often be working on features and alterations right up until the discs went for printing (and sometimes during the process itself). Sometimes, a feature has to be removed at the last minute.
Second, I’ve been an EVE Online player for several years; the biggest fiasco CCP ever faced occurred when they promised features they were unable to properly deliver; two hundred people lost their jobs because of the negative backlash from upset fans.
It’s better that ANet doesn’t say anything until they know they can deliver.
Source for the EVE job lost?
When I first bought this game, my expectations were high. I expected a polished AAA title MMORPG that will hold my attention for years to come. Not only was my expectation met but ANet goes waaay beyond that and exceeded my expectation! They made something greater and so grand that it surpass the ideal MMO I had envisioned. They made a market simulator!
Thank you ANet
It was probably an exploit™.
No, its not. gimme my aoe back
Yeah, this topic took up lots of pages, having a thread for just that would be so much better.
Tonics, bells, and other novelties like that are just for fun. They don’t have any practical use in the game, nor do they give anyone an advantage in the game. I don’t know what you mean by “realistic usage of their gathering tool,” though. They aren’t attained through gathering.
Okay, what about permanent banker, merchant, TP contract? They are practical and they are not priceless. The price assign to an item is base on the realistic amount of use they will get from that item through their entire playing career.
That’s a fair point. It’s still theoretically an infinitely priceless item, but as far as this is a conversation about practical matters, you’ve got me. We don’t live in Theoretical Land.
Well, if we want to get technical, even in “theoretical land”, you are still incorrect. Something is priceless only when it can’t be measured. As long as something is measurable, it is no longer priceless. In this case, it is not priceless because time is not infinite, nor is the lifespan of this game.
In a bulk sum, perhaps. But, the design of an unlimited-use gathering tool is still to provide an unnecessary convenience to the rich, as if their time were more valuable than those who have a hard time letting that amount of money go. People who have 10g (or presumably, 30g for a full set of tools) to just throw away like that don’t need an easier time in this game. They have their gold to get them by, and can probably just buy whatever they need.
This is a rather weak argument. I sincerely doubt at the pricepoint of 10g, it serves as a convenience to the “rich”. Even under such assumption, how exactly does this impact the ability of the lesser financial player to mine? Are we to suppose to do away with gem because it provide an unnecessary convenience to the player with the deeper wallet with those boosts, BL Kit, bag slots, bank slots, etc? It serves well as a luxurious, item and a gold sink as it in no way negatively impact any player from their current situation.
If that’s true, then there’s no reason for this tool to begin with, since they wouldn’t need it.
You know, there are people who have alts who they just park in front of rare or high-demand gathering nodes. They log in, harvest, send to collectibles, and log out. We don’t need to make it simpler for them to do that.
There are plenty of people out there farming, and they are far from rich and would certainly buy this item. I’m rather confuse, you seem to hate capitalism but at the same time promotes capitalism. You do realize that those players doing that contribute to the decrease of the overall price of crafting items right? Which, in general, benefits the majority of the players in this game.
I’ve skimmed the argument that a 10g perma-tool would act as a gold sink.
This is false.Gold-sinks are suppose to last long-term, where as this would be a short-term benefit.
Over time, the mats you gather would far outweigh the cost.
There ARE people have used gathering tools over 25,000 times. I know people who enjoy farming to this extent. Notably: One of them farmed 5000 candy corn during the halloween event. And that’s only in 6 months. In 2 years, this suggestion would pay for itself and become a contributor to inflation.
Every once in a while, some guy eats more than their moneys worth in a buffet, but the majority don’t. In the grand scheme of things, the restaurants generally profits.

^ mind explain??
The game/server does not act base on nothing. It acts base on the code set by Anet and the logic of the coding in regards to the mathematical formula of real life. So there’s obviously a logic error somewhere in the coding but the math still adds up. Its just that the displayed math(what we see) is incorrect.
I whole heartily agree, there’s honestly no reason not to. The technology already exist, why bother with guesting?
Trust me, the math adds up. At least in the coding. The perceived math does not add up.
We can disagree about what and how many gold sinks there must be in the game, but it seems strange to me to try and pin down a numerical cost that would “make up for” an infinitely-useable, unbreakable gathering tool.
If it’s unbreakable, and useable an infinite number of times, the proportionate cost of the tool is not 10 gold or 25 gold — it’s infinite gold. Such an item would be absolutely priceless.
Having to maintain your gathering tools provides a gold sink that is small, manageable, and consistent. It’s required of all players equally, and allows for the same amount of everyday material acquisition, at the same rate for everyone.
An unbreakable gathering tool utterly cuts off this gold sink, for the purposes of providing a convenience for those who are skilled enough to farm or manipulate the economy, or those who are able to play more often. It is a reward for simply scraping together a large lump sum of gold — and once that lump sum is spent, the maintenance costs are lifted from those players forever. Essentially, it is a tax cut for the rich.
People who can generate mass quantities of gold at any one time do not need to be more highly rewarded, and they don’t need their play time to go easier than other players who are struggling to get by.
Lol, what are you talking about? Of course its entirely possible to “pin down” an numerical cost on an infinitely usable gathering tool. The endless toymaker tonic or the unbreakable bell is on the TP, are they priceless? No. Why? Because of their realistic usage of their gathering tool.
10g = 250stacks of pick = 25,000mines. That is probably more than an average person would ever mine in this game and the cost of 10g as a goldsink would as a result, surpass the goldsink of individual one time use picks.
Fyi, the peoples whos economically savvy arent the one out there gathering…
Careful guys, this might be an “exploit”.
This was simply a case of bad PR and management in the part of Anet. The line between legitimacy and exploitative has been further blurred and a atrociously harmful precedent has been set.
Hope its not scrapped.
Who reads the TOS? Did you?
What if i’m not good with English? You can’t agree to a contract to which you don’t have the capacity to fully comphrend it. It will be deem voided.Don’t make me laugh.
What? Should someone be bound to a contract that they don’t understand?
If they agree to it, absolutely.
Obviously your understanding in law and common sense is lacking. How does one agree to something, in which, they don’t know what that something is? Do you seriously expect a “contract” written in spanish or chinese in which the person “agreeing” to it simply does not have the ability to understand it to hold up in a court of law? I suppose with your reasoning, it comes as no surprise you agree with ANet’s decision.
-Law student.
If I was drunk when I agreed to the UELA, am I bound to it?
Yes, unless Anet made you drunk against your will or knowledge (such as spiking your drink or something) and you signed the UELA, then you are bound. Or you might be bound anyway… someone correct me on this?
If it can be demonstrated that he was indeed drunk and that affected his judgement or capacity to comprehend the terms of the agreement, the contract will not be valid.
Look, I worked a company that was designed around people being dumb enough to not read ToS agreements. Many people simply didn’t read it and agreed to it anyway, but some of people that called in were french Canadians that didn’t speak English for crap, and guess what? The ‘I didn’t understand it’ argument didn’t fly. Simply put, these people should not have been agreeing to things they don’t understand.
Real world experience > law student experience.
It seems like you do not understand what you are talking about…
Now, i want you to think about who the ToS is for. In case you didn’t figure it out, its design for the court and to cover their behind if a dispute were to occur.
What you’re saying sounds a lot like your company upholding their policy and taking a stance in ignorance to the law. Should this french speaking client of yours file claim in court, it would be a case what lawyer would call “slam dunk” because its obvious what the outcome would be. Assuming the person legitimately doesn’t speak that language.
Yes, you shouldn’t agree to something you don’t understand, but who’s to say they understand they are agreeing to something? Or better yet, why should the person who insist in its validity of the contract present a document that the other party may not understand in the first place?
Common sense > “real world experience”
I find it hilarious that people are supporting this act of ANet without fully comprehending the consequences and precedent set by this. I suppose, when the same people supporting Anet get retroactively permanently ban from an unobvious “exploit”(if you would even call it that), they will start to understand how their tolerance/support to this unprofessional act of Anet, directly led to their ban in the future.

I was hacked before too and when i checked the connection, my ip was the only one… Course, according to Anet, they were not compromise and is 100% the fault of the user.

Same reason as Dyes… They hoping you would pony up another $5000 in gems to convert to gold to buy another one for 1 addition character. In other words, it makes them more money.

This game is so badly optimized, they should optimized it first before experimenting with Dx10 and Dx11
Quote from news
The cuts are so deep you’ll swear I took a greatsword to the prices!
Character expansion – 800gems reduced to 600gems (25% discount). Yup, very deep.
Hey everyone,
I got this idea where there should be a item in the BLTC every month that cost X gems(eg;250gems), the item will not be identified and unknown until the start of the next month. When you choose to identified it at the start of the next month, you will have the option to choose between one of the two item of that month, which will be exclusive that month only and will no longer be purchasable on the Gem store. It could be anything… Outfit, minipets, tonic, hats, toys, etc
The not identified item and identified items should also be tradable, so people who missed one of them or liked a specific one should have the chance to get it.
What’s your thoughts? Would you buy one of these?
You won’t know until they drop the hammer. Anytime you profit, you run the risk of getting ban for exploit due to ANet’s vague interpretation of “exploit”.
Less than 200 Total Bans
So,John Smith, being an economist, would you mind expanding on why this flake salvaging was an economic exploit, leading up to the terminated accounts?
I just want to know why this was an economic exploit to understand and avoid what constitute as a exploit in the future.
Thank you
Not worth buying. The market is just stablizing from that “exploit” that resulted in excess ectoplasm as ANet would call it. Buying now would cost you 27s a piece, and would only break even at 31-32s. Ecto hasn’t been that price for over a month.
Traders such as myself increase the value of your gold. Every time i trade, 15% of that gold is out of the game. That is useful.
