ermm…this is bad.
we run two guild missions per week, one on the morning and night for different timezone.
at the same time, it also happen to be before and after reset, the friday and sunday.
so it happened to be sceduled such a way that if the person cant make it on the weekend sunday this week, he can try to make it on the weekend on friday next week.
now with this change, it is impossible to find a schedule that can make both mission fall on the weekend while at the same time before and after reset.
I think some of this is because classic RPGs did their RP while doing something (planning a raid, recruiting a party, exploring a haunted woods). In MMOs, the RP seems to be consigned to the sidelines and basically exists only for itself, not as part of the whole experience.
I think that’s because in a MMO, you can’t really RP and fight at the same time. You can between fights, but during the actual fight if you stop to type in some witty one-liner or something, you’re going to wind up with a centaur hoof someplace unpleasant. In PnP RP, you can mix them both freely.
well, actually you can RP if both sides are on the same ts3 and then talk whatever through speech but i wonder who will do that :O
like every skills and classes….anet will super nerf it later on
So you’re saying my thought process is logical? I can live with that. And you can maintain a relationship with multiple guilds at different times a lot like you can 500 people at different times. Do you think the 50 people you see in prime time are consistently the same you see during off hours? You’re still maintaining relationships with different people.
linear thinking is a systematic step-by-step kind of thinking and many people call this way of thinking logic
while non-linear don’t follow the step-by-step thinking and many people call this way of thinking creative and innovativecreating a community, relationships aren’t something you write from A to Z, in a step by step manner. theoretically, you can do certain things in certain ways but in practice, it doesn’t work perfectly so. a community isn’t compose of just logic but also human factors like behaviours, thinking, culture, emotions etc.
a guild can be built by luck, got lucky and recruited a good group of nice people who are repping and not only that, also contributing to your guild. a guild can also be built by hardwork and bad luck, recruiting bad group of people who don’t bother to rep or even when they do rep, they don’t bother to contribute and create troubles instead, filtering through different kind of people to get the right people. a guild can also be built by backstabbing another guild and taking their members away, even if is a small portion.
Exactly. It is why I offered an alternative multi-guild option for having active players at all hours when you only offered a 100% rep option. I created an alternative using my creativity. I’m sure others could create more. Creativity doesn’t have to be an abstract thing, many breakthroughs are developed through creative use of logical thinking.
Not before you disagree the rep rule, that doesn’t sound alternative to me, more like, I want it this way, it has to be this way.

there is no one answer to everything because the world is such a big place. non-rep guild can be successful with the right situation, right timing, right members, right places but that doesn’t happen for every guilds in every regions.
by not accepting and disagreeing with certain things even if these things are logical in another perspectives, you are limiting your views to just a few perspectives like everything is this perfect in this world.

mega server was introduced in the later part of the game
thus, honestly speaking, is either your guild is in a dying server with very little ppl to recruit from or ur guild was formed after the mega server implementation. most likely a dying server?
u know…..
that is still linear thinking……logical….step by step….
thus i made a logical reply to u
i also already expected you replying me small-medium size guild while ignoring the word relationship.
by joining that many guilds, it get really hard to maintain that level of relationship since relationship need to have consistent interaction. i wonder how is it like to join 5 different timezone guilds. do you know? u wanna test it out?
it is a matter of linear thinking vs non-linear thinking
im not saying non-rep is not possible, my guild was never a full rep from the get go. we only implement it later. so, again, im not saying that it is impossible to build guild with little rep enforcement, again, i even mentioned that any small/medium sized guild that enforce rep rule are sub-standard guilds. this also include small/medium sized guilds that tried to make rep rule like evil cult rules, those are sub-standard guilds as well.
however, the point is many people are very focused in linear thinking and not considering any other perspectives. then, i noticed quite a number of people trying to make rep rule as some kind of evil existence. yes, there are a lot of bad full rep guilds here and there but it isnt fair to group all those successful large guilds together with them.
now, the question is, what is a large guild? it is not just mere total numbers of people you have in your roster but rather your overall activeness of the guild that spread across multiple timezone, not just one single timezone. it is easy to create a single timezone guild, i’ve been through that but to sustain a multiple timezones guild is where things start to get complicated.
Well, about non-linear thinking why not just join multiple lax rep guilds who are active in different time zones then? You get active population throughout the day and still have the freedom to rep whoever you want. Not saying it’s better or worse than your way but assuming a single 100% rep massive guild is the only way to play with people at all hours seems like linear thinking to me.
obviously, your thinking is linear as it is. yes, i agree, logically you can join 5 guilds which then combine up to 2.5k people. logically, that is one way anyone can do it. but let me ask you this, are you going to personally know all 2.5k people? is it even possible to make friends with 2.5k and sustain those relationships?
Ok, guys.
First I want to thank you all for sharing your opinions and going deep on this topic. I’ve learned a lot just by reading these few posts.Second I want to make clear why I stated I felt the game encourages people to stay in one guild:
I felt this because rep transform into relevant currency (Influence). This means having someone rep has a concrete, cold numeric value for guilds, and so guilds would naturally compete for that. 100% rep requirement is a logical result of this system.
Now I see there are also other aspects behind rep: advertising, ease to make activities on the fly, control the space available in the guild, number of faces on chat, etc. I can understand much better now why our guild leader consider this so important, and that is not only about influence.
Sadly, understanding it doesn’t make the system any better, because there is a huge inconsistency in its core.
The system reward guilds for having people to passively rep, allow guilds to arbitrarilly put 100% rep rules, and allow people to have multiple guilds. Problems are inevitable. One of these 3 should go.
I know the 100% rule “is up to each guild to decide”, but I see it like commercial monopoly: law watch over and discourages it, because it is nocive for the economy. If Anet were to actively combat the practice I probably would support them.
Other possibility is to completely remove the option of multiple guilds. This would be difficult because the extremely diverse playstyles the game offers. I think no guild can offer all of them, even a really big and organized one.
The last option is to stop rewarding currency for passive representation. This, I think, is the best option, because then guilds would try to get players to actually DO specific, concrete and time-limited things, instead of trying to rule over the whole time the players are connected.
Third I must mention the 100% rep is problematic not only for players, but for guilds too:
There are a lot of people that doesn’t understand what rep is. Agreeing to a 100% rep rule doesn’t make sure people actually observe it, less when they don’t know what they are doing. While I choose to investigate thoroughly before making any choice, most players I know would simply break the rule whenever they want and eat the warnings later. This means the leaders have to be constantly confronting people. Also there is the recruiting issue: of the last 5 guys that ask me to enter the guild, only one choose to stay. The other 4 don’t like the 100& rep rule, so they left asap. While it could be true that the ones who left were “not fit” for the guild, I think the guy that stayed do so only because he doesn’t really care about rules. So which is worst?
What Im trying to say is rules too strict tend to not be respected, and that is worse in the end.
Personally, I feel my problem is bigger. I was almost prepared to judge my guild leaders as the baddies on the movie and left for good, but now I see their standing (if “monopolizing”) is totally legit.
My ideal solution was to convince the leaders to soften the rule to a 90% rep, but they stayed square in their “rules don’t change” policy (Wich they have the right to do).
So, for now, I will wait. if the incoming changes make the currency less associated with dumb time and more with specific activities, maybe they relax the rule. If they don’t, I think I will have to say goodbye.
Thank you again for your opinions, and please, keep the words rolling.
technically, most large 24hr guilds i have seen are 90% rep but often call themselves 100% rep because it is troublesome to educate the gw2 newbies about things that they don’t really care about. however, the 10% rep are only for very specific type of guilds because 10% is actually quite a small amount of rep time.
i doubt you are in one of the 24hr guilds but rather those typical 500 roster guilds that use 100% rep because it is easier to manage their roster.
gw2 isnt a hc game so much people dont care about the rules as much as breaking it has zero consequence, creating drama also has near zero consequence.
in hot, anet is planning to give cross chat to guilds and ideally, this cross chat theoretically should work great if the users use them genuinely and sincerely but in reality, all the guilds must be prepared to have one annoying type of people joining their guilds which are people who join to use the guilds as form of LFG.

a lot of ppl are saying guilds are enforcing full rep rule because of influence
honestly speaking, new guilds or even small/medium size guilds that enforce full rep rules for influence are sub-standard guilds because they have to resort to such things to get influence to build their guilds. also, because of them, ppl led to thinking that even the old large guilds enforce these rules for influence
large guilds enforce full rep rule because of space. theres only 500 space and 500 space isn’t a lot if the guild is a 24hour guild. imagine having tons of ppl joining ur guild with very little intention of repping and end up hogging ur guild space while not contributing anything to your guild. your 24hr guild will fall apart within a month.
also, most large full rep guild allow you to rep personal bank and world boss guild like tts. some nicer one will also let you rep other kind of farming guild like for dry top and silverwaste as long you not un-rep for too long.
If said people only rep while they play with said large guild they are contributing to the guild. And any perceived social contributions they make will only be when they play with/for the guild anyway so there’s even less reason to enforce 100% rep imo since any massive activity they do together will have them overflowing with influence anyway.
And if they allow you to rep for other activities then they aren’t 100% rep now are they.
i dont think you run a large guild before.

toxicity…trolls
gw2 itself already has a lot of dota/lol-like kids, so it has nothing to do with f2p, the proportion of these kids are the same through out.
TS…
you will see those during the early days of the game when it is extremely fresh, everyone are discussing how to conquer something and set a time to do it to conquer it.
now, 3 years into gw2, most old players are bored and used to the game, the game is actually very easy to conquer.
if you want to be part of those experience, you might want to join a newly launch game or a hardcore game. gw2 is causal game so the discussion part dont really last.
the only schedules we have in my guild are for guild missions, some large scale event like sw (used to do temples but well, after mega server we stop doing it becoz is juz hard to find contested temple at a fixed timing), wvw and meeting. nothing else.

how u identify active guild?
Please moderate WvW section, the LFG post should be in LFG, no1 move them since like 2 weeks ago.
true….rather have ebay than nsp
db sea still as big as ever
3am central is ocx timing
gratz for being the top bandwagoned destination
given that influence is becoming useless in HOT and there are guilds with huge surplus of it
it did be good to allow guild to pay members’ transfer through influence while abiding to the server status.
i still have glory booster
yet another thread that havent been moved to LFG
wvw forum is neglected badly
when u see this thread havent move to LFG forum, you know just how much attention this forum is receiving
conversation? doubt so, very unlikely

they wont, the lore isnt that good in gw2 =X
ermm…..
i think anet knows that the lack of new contents will result in loss of playes
the announcement of hot release date has bought back some players, so to keep the trend going, a small event to keep people interested.
commitment never was once rewarded
so they hav less work but apparently, they not good at having less work.

A summary
We are a old guild and have been around since launch, under another name but was reformed to the current due to new leadership. We are mostly filled with working adults and university students.
Comparing to other similar sized guilds or some of the old guilds, we have been active and though we might have some ups and downs due to players quitting, we never once gone inactive.
We started our current guild with the sole purpose of longevity, inorder to last and not go inactive. Our leader simply tired of joining guilds or multi-gaming community that will go inactive after awhile base on his past experiences in MMORPGs.
If you are looking for a guild that will last, whatever you contributed will not simply go to waste after awhile, a guild that is always there and always has someone to do something with, come and join us.

i am confused when u type pvx and wvw becoz pvx include wvw….
so when u mentioned pvx do u mean pve?
a real pvx will indicate their home server and a large guild will have a structure to keep things under control
well it is true that large guild can attempt to abuse it by multi claiming in different worlds but i wonder how much of a exploit can that be. it will take a really large guild with amazing structure to sustain multiple worlds of wvw
i think troll guild which claim for the sake of claiming is more worrisome.
it is open secret that anet is lazy when come to bug fixing… if the bug is not game breaking, they will put it the least priority and when those bugs accumulate over the years, the numbers will get big enough to be of concern.
since launch, i never once had someone logon my account from oversea….
how did others got their account pw and mail known?
Hi there,
Yes, it is a typo ._.
Unfortunately no, we have yet to find guilds that fill up that timezone because that timezone is actually the EU timezone, specifically timing like UK’s. Also, most EU guilds are in EU servers.
Hi,
I noticed that when you are tagged up, the “Invite to Party” and “Join Party” options which you usually see when “right click” on that person’s name disappeared.
this isnt a problem, the server is full and thats all there is to it.
when a CS or BF or TF2 server is full, are you gonna complain or simply wait for a slot to appear? t1 most likely wont be open for at least a year. Its hardly comparable, CS servers being full are those logged in at that moment, the WvW analogy would be the map caps not the server status. I think there might be a problem when HOT launches cause the new BLs are huge and with FA being the test case for what constitutes a full server the server caps might be too low.
if you put it strictly on wvw cap, then the next thing people gonna complain is the long queue. ppl will always find things to complain.

dont let the free accounts spoil the current server status!!!
Wait i think it would help most worlds they would just get in the way of the say top 9? ranked worlds.
if you have majority of people who can’t whisper cross chat or use map chat, not sure how much that will help. yes granted, it will boost the base population but theres a limit to quantity over quality .
(edited by SkyShroud.2865)
dont let the free accounts spoil the current server status!!!
and now we have lots of free acounts flooding wvw and increase the pop size
lol…10-men…….
i was expecting 20-men raid…
At this point, all “Full” servers are going to be balanced.
Oh, really?
Yeah until the pop across tzs is even it will never be balanced.
given enough time, it will be “balanced”
mainly because these servers will be locked and thus no new players will enter, the old players will slowly quit one by one to point that the server will unlock itself when the population dropped. personally, i think it will take a year to fix itself.
2. it doesnt happen in all pvp games, it only happen in recent years. mmorpg community used to be much more friendlier and filled with much less dota/lol-like players.
wish i had experience to command but i don’t sorry no help here
Thanks for the consideration! ^^
lol, who cares about stable 3-servers match up…thats what make wvw even more boring and stale
i rather have 6-servers rotation match up, the more the merrier, 9 or even 12 servers rotation matchup….
to put the glicko back to place just need to start another wvw tourny to mix up some matchups and drain the glicko from each other
Tournaments do very little for “draining glicko” because all servers get to face each other. The only real effect tournaments have had on glicko is the creation of glicko cliffs between leagues.
it is exactly because servers get to face each other, it will allow them to drain glicko from each other.
those who are similiar in strength will have their glicko drained by the one with the lowest glicko. that is to say if YB is truly a T1 material, then, JQ/TC/BG will lose glicko to YB if the PPT come up as equal. this apply to all the servers.
right now, the glicko already stabilised and thus is already out of the “learning” stage.
I think you misunderstand. Because all the servers get to face each other, any glicko that was “drained” gets returned. You cite YB facing JQ/TC/BG. FA and SoS would also face those servers and most likely lose glicko to them. Tournament matches are not determined via glicko so there’s no real gains to be had. The better method would be for Anet to increase the match-up variance.
Nope. The glicko has past its learning stage and thus already decided the tiers glicko range. That is to say if YB is indeed a T1 material, then it is a T1 server within a T2 glicko range. So, if BG/TC/JQ were to match up with the other T2 servers excluding YB. They wouldn’t drain as much glicko as YB due to their glicko difference. The system is already expecting BG/TC/JQ to dominate them. However, if the T1 servers are unable to dominate YB then YB will gain huge amount of glicko, pushing itself to T1 glicko range.
