I gave it an honest effort. we organized, planned, split into groups, got good players into turrets.
We gave it everything we had and only got to 60% after 4 tries. 3 hours of playing and I have a total of -5s to show for it.
I am done with this event until it is either nerfed or moved to an instance where we can get rid of the hordes in blues.
My servr as well. We did about 5 tries. Crystal desert here. 69 percent was the lowest we got. 68-69. I was even able to get 50 people in ts. Its just a fight that wasnt tested before hand.
For the first few attempts, I thought we were doing something mechanically wrong, but even then, it ultimately comes down to us having nto enough time or him having too much health. Its insane. 40 people dpsing him for 5 minutes only get his health down 8 percent. Thats a joke.
I do. Especially seeing 80 organized people only able to get teq down to 60 percent with relatively good playerskill. The fact that raw dps from 60 people only takes out about 40 percent of his health should tell you there is something seriously overpowered with this boss. Earlier in the day I thought it was just a bad first few attempts, but im acc starting to think that this is the biggest flub Anet has ever come across. Lets be honest
Bg, Jq, had a fully organized group only push 50 percent. thats with very good organization, numbers, and player skill. Well what about overflow? This fight is not at all what Anet intended it to be. Its certainly not casual, which I dont mind, but it requires the organization for 80 people that you would usually require for 25 in another MMO’s raid. If thats the case anet, then just make it instanced!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously. You can only go so far with open world raids, they can only be so difficult. You will never content surpass a certain difficulty because that will require a high level of communication and organizatoin. Something you cant do with 40 people you dont know and arnt communicating with.
Anyone whose attempted this fight several times will realize that it almost completely depends on 6 people. 6 out of 80. What type of logic is this by anet? Im not usually critical but after 5 attempts its pretty obvious that you can’t do the fight without the turrets. So basically, if they wanted to, 6 people could come and troll an entire fight. I can completely foresee this happening in the future.
I dont understand how anet couldnt foresee this.
CD’s 5th try. We were much more organized this time and we split the dps into 2 tightly stacked groups of about 30. however it didnt work as we intended, as that many nametags on the field completely blocked anything below us. I dont mean to whine but I can barely see the red circles on the ground because of how faint they are, along with the fact that they are partially covered by the water. Its something anet needs to look into in the future. Anyway, the entire right zerg wiped due to this issue, and then regrouping took us about 3 mins and it lost us a good chunk of dps. were still not sre about the strategy we need to use. Stacking is good in theory but the poison is extremely powerful and creeping when it comes up.
You can turn nametags off…
I tried that when I respawned and its still pretty difficult to see the rings. If they were brighter it would help.

4th try fo crystal desert, 73%. Were trying food buffs, banners, empower, turret buffs. we even have around 50 people dpsing him consistently. but we hve no idea how to get more dps.
i love it. wvw players are too jaded at this point to reallly appreciate the work put into wvw.
The timer freezes when the ‘Defend the laser’ event starts (with it’s own timer). If you succeed it, Teq becomes vulnerable for a period of time (takes more damage). If you don’t, you get a tidal wave to the face.
As soon as the Defend the Laser event is over, the timer to defeat Tequatl unfreezes.
Thats correct. Apparently TC got him to 10 percent, but that was a random map chat comment. What I still cant figure out is why we can have 50 people dpsing him and not get his health down fast enough.
Its was only our 3rd time fighitng him but to be honest this actually feels like a raid. We have a very heft group of people who will come and wait and hour before teq to split up, organize, and buff up. The first two attempts weren’t good and we only got him to 90 percent. HOWEVER, on our 3rd attempt we got him to 75 percent.
Whenever he reaches 75 percent, the timer stops. We had it stopped at 11 seconds left. We almost succeeded in saving the mega lasers but hte north battery got hit hard and we failed with 5 seconds left. The coolest part though is that if you fail it, he summons a huge tidal wave that downs a ton of people!! Its like the tidal wave in the trailer lol. The fight is pretty epic I have to say, it really islike an 80 man raid. I think this is a step in the right direction. Because it gives large communities a sense of teamwork and especially progression, like raid progression.
No. And im ok with that.

Pretty much ever since anet ever put any hard content in this game, there has always had to be a huge backlash from the community when encountering hard content. We absolutely knew people would do this with SAB before trib came out. The devs warned that it was only meant for those who were willing to try so hard. They consistently warned this, and we still got a large response from the kittens and casuals. I pretty much completely foresaw this response from the community with teq.
(edited by Moderator)
Im not sure if thats sarcasm or not :o.
I really hope you’re not trying to make fun of me i am very ill and gw2 is one of my only forms of entertainmaent and i cant enjoy the game with hard bossts like this
its meant to be hard, if you cant do it, then dont go. sorry, no easy way to say it. the game caters to both casual and hardcore players by offering both difficulties. there is casual content if you want that, but teq is meant to be hard because the playerbase has demonstrated their skill.
I was fine as well.
Actually, it looks like the bosses may be getting bigger updates to their fight mechanics than we thought. There is a picture of the megadestroyer on reddit somewhere and he looks completely different, new model, which may suggest a new phase. This gives me hope that the bosses will have significant upgrades to their difficulty.
I highly doubt it. They are probably just refined to be properly scaled and new mechanics. Nobody has time for all the bosses in the world if they take 15 minutes to complete.
But they should be that challenging. They are “world” bosses. Their elite status should be preserved by notorious difficulty. World bosses these days are farmed like dogs xD
On the Teq Rising page, it mentioned that all the world bosses will be getting revamps to make them more challenging and fun. So will they all be difficult like teq? Or is teq the shining jewel of the world boss revamp?
So I just read the patch preview for the new teq rising, and it said “Each borderland map in WvW has been redesigned to include five new Ruins of Power”. So does that mean the 3 bl’s will all be different or even slightly dif in terms of design? I think it would be really great if they were. it would bring great diversity to the bl’s.
Bobby!!!! Youve broken my gw2 players heart!!! I wanted in game lore books for soooooooooooooo longgggggg

I would buy the infinite coin with you. Grind gold if you need to. Because I don’t see anyone doing this by simply continue coins. If they do, they are the most pro player and I have respect. Ive probably had +200 deaths now. I was almost done with zone 2, and then I dced and have to restart all over again. Im pretty kitten ed but oh well. It may be more fun if I bring a friend along.

Everyone who critiques tribulation mode seems to forget the immense amount of warnings from the devs, about how not only was it hard, but it was insanely hard, and unfair. A lot of the comments complaining about the difficulty acted as if they thought it would be an explore version of the regular zones, which isn’t true at all.
Im only halfway through World 1, and I think its done rather nicely, because there are some very psychological aspects to it. The main being that the devs who made it seem to be one step ahead of you at times. In other words, whenever I recognize the spikes that lay ahead of me, and I try to avoid them by going to the right, the devs have already recognized that train of thought and put another obstacle in that way.
The mode is obviously more than spike traps. For instance, with the jumping boulders, there are a lot of times where those obstacles require to to complete the jump within a very small window along with very good precision. Like in World 1 Zone 2 after the first part of the zone, there is one jump in particular that took me about 50 trials because you have to stand on a small rock, jump forward onto a boulder, then immediately dodge jump forward while turning left at the same time to get to leaf across from you. Along with the fact that monkeys may be trying to hit you at the same time.
There are plenty of situations I have seen like that which test your jumping skill ability, but also your mental strength. Anyone who played old Nintendo games will remember that repetition and rage are very common but also implemented because of the mental strength required by the players. I think too many people are mistaking this for bad game design because they arn’t used to this level of difficulty.
Its obviously not for casual players, so if you only have an hour a day to play, then its not for you. Anyone who goes through without an online guide(youtube) will sure be in for hell, because it can easily take hours.
“We announced precursor crafting earlier on in the year, but I cant say much about it, though it’s still something we’d LIKE to do…”
^
This is the nail in my proverbial coffin. Broke me’ heart.Starting to wonder if I should just give up forever on ever getting a Legendary. Which probably means I’ll be playing less unfortunately = /
I wish Anet would give us something more on this, just a ray of hope in what seems like a black pit.
Thats not true. Colin said in an interview just a few days ago that precursor crafting was coming in 2013.
I agree with this 100%. I work about 48+ hours per week and i have just enough time to finish 1/2 Achievement categories. I have like no time to try anything else since the content will be gone FOREVER since it’s never permanent. I really liked this game but the past year the decisions have been god awful and different then what i expected. I may give the game another month but if i feel like im falling behind i simply just will stop playing.
I was able to keep up and i loved it but now i feel like im the turtle in a rabbit race
Hey, guess what, you represent the minority. The very very small minority. Id also think you must not know much about the decisions being made in the game by the devs, as stated in the interviews. If you don’t have at least 5 hours or more in your week to play the new content, then maybe you shouldnt be playing games.
I like RNG in this situation. Please don’t screw it up. Lets keep it. Its fun to have RNG in these situations because if you do get the reward, it feels special!! And if yo don’t well it gives you something to come back for.
And if too few get it the event dies as not enough show up to complete it. So which is more important a few feeling special or the event remaining populated? I think the latter.
That won’t happen. If people don’t get it, it gives them incentive to come back and keep getting it. A lot of people will work at something like that. This community has too many people who want to get a fitting reward on the first try. It doesn’t work like that.
I like RNG in this situation. Please don’t screw it up. Lets keep it. Its fun to have RNG in these situations because if you do get the reward, it feels special!! And if yo don’t well it gives you something to come back for.
IT LOOKS AWESOME!!! THANX ANET!! Also, Teq has a chance to drop ascended weapons
:):):)
Back in november, when fotm was released, some people actually really liked it. Do you know who did? The hardcore grind community of gw2. Because they got to do cool content, hard content, for rewards like rings.
But…but then came the horizontal progression casuals. Who did have fair arguments because they had to play the game through strictly hardcore pve to get a ring. So to create horizontal progression, Anet had to use a method that was applicable to all players. That was laurels! Because everyone can complete a daily, whether its pve or wvw. Casual or hardcore. Now you could simply obtain the same cool items but in a less cool way.
Now we are here. Ascended crafting. Nearly all the mats are obtainable in very farmy ways. Go kill certain champs, or go do jps, cap towers and camps, or even kill world bosses. You can even buy some of the mats needed. But now there is one big problem. The way that we obtain Ascended weapons is too farm heavy!!!
Instead of introducing new content, say a new dungeon or series of missions to obtain the required crafting materials, Anet had to do this. Because it caters to both hardcore/casual and pve/wvw. Well you guys asked for it. Its kinda sad, because there is also a large part of this community, hardcore players, who would actually love to do a new dungeon that is of liadri difficulty, and be rewarded with items up to that rank, say a really cool skin, or even ascended stuff. A lot of people, hardcore mmoers, dont stay in gw2 long enough because there is no content like this whatsoever. You know why?? What happens if you implement a cool skin thats obtainable through a very high skill level dungeon?? The wvw and casual folk swarm to the threads!!! Because they can’t obtain it and don’t want to try hard enough for it.
So pretty much either way, you will get complaints. You will rather make the casual community mad, or you will make the hardcore community mad. Back in november, anet was able to please the Hardcore community of gamers, but received cries of agony from the casual. Now, with the new ways to obtain ascended gear, Anet has failed to please the hardcore community.
The only foreseeable thing that will please hardcore folk is the tribulation mode in SAB. Only certain skins can be obtained from this super hardmode. But I predict that only a day in, we will see loads of complaints onto the forums(from the casuals) because of the difficulty of the content. We saw it with Liadri. We will see it again.
I think you’re all overreacting, since I don’t know whether its gated per account or per character. GW2 isn’t in the gear treadmill stage yet, so no reason to call it that. It will be if we get another gear type after ascended though within the next year, but I doubt that. The only gear type we’ll get after ascended is legendary, but that won’t be this year so no worries.
Some people like gated content, or just don’t mind it at all. The forums are the only place ive really heard complaints. In game, I dont see any complaints from people. Only goes to show the difference between the two communities.
Most non braindead people play the game to have fun. Not as a way to replace their jobs grinding gear in order to have fun.
I play WvW 90%+ of the time, I didn’t even participate in the deadeye gold farming that much. I lost out. I don’t complain about it because it didn’t negatively affect my PvP performance by not doing it.
I complain about Ascended weapons because it means I have to farm champs in those awful champ rotations all day. Hoping that I get exos or ascended drops in WvW on a t5 server is akin to hoping god turns my morning kittens into gold. Just so I don’t hold back my team by not having the best gear available.
You make this sound worse than it is. In wvw, you already kill champs. There is no requirement for you to farm champs like TC does in Orr. Also, you can get exotic weapons simply through buying them with badges. And if you play wvw a lot you should have plenty of badges. And if you make money in wvw, then you can buy them off the TP.
You make it sound much better than it is.
In WvW, you kill champs only if/when you take a tower. Exotic weapons can’t be bought with just badges; you need gold as well. Where do you get that gold from? The amount of money you make in WvW is insignificant compared to PvE, which means TP prices are a much higher percentage of your wealth compared to a PvE player.
Then go play another part of the game that makes money.
So, hm, first we get this stuff put in to allow crafting as opposed to RNG drops in a dungeon like it was with Rings and Fractals . . . (with an option for world-wide RNG drops from what I read) and it’s a complaint it doesn’t drop in dungeons?
When it was dropping in dungeons, there were complaints about no other way of getting it . . .
I’m going to just sigh if, in two months, we see a dungeon or event which is specially made to drop Ascended gear because people want it easier, then people complain about the crafting update being useless.
^THIS. It just proves that the GW2 community is spoiled and can’t completely be satisfied. The forum community is this way at least. The only thing I agree with is that there doesnt need to be time-gating for an entire account. It needs to be separate per character.
Or you know they could just have stuck to what they said they were going to do from the beginning and made only cosmetic grind not BiS grind. They could also have implemented it the way it currently functions with exotics which allows you to craft, do dungeons, use karma and get the items directly. It keeps in line with what their initial stated goals were for the game, what they are implementing now does not.
I know you’re afraid of a gear treadmill but I think you’re speaking to soon. Ascended has been the only new rarity introduced since november and I doubt we will get another rarity. I heard somewhere that the Ascended rarity will only continue to change in certain ways, not have a new rarity introduced. Perhaps the Ascended rarity actually has some purpose to it (lorewise)

AFAIK, when you reach a craft level, you can craft any weapon/armor under that crafting profession provided you have the materials.
Example: You can craft weaponsmith orichalcum weapons as soon as you reach 400 weaponsmith.I am interpreting this as:
it will take 2 weeks to max a crafting profession(say weaponsmith) to 500 and say you are using greatsword & sword/axe, you’re done right there as long as you have the mats, you may craft all 3(they are all under weaponsmith). Now you need another 2 weeks to max your huntsman and another 2 to max artificier, so depending on what weapons you use, it may take 2-6 weeks to finish your ascended weapons.Of course that means you will also need huntsman500 for your speargun or artificier500 for your trident.
If they make it time-gated and it takes 2 weeks for 1 weapon, then arenanet has lost a customer, a fan and a possible investor.
If it wasn’t time gated, you’d complete it in a day, get your weapon, and then complain about a lack of content.
I still don’t see a good complaint. Maybe its just because I don’t mind grind or working towards something even if it takes a month. Again, I’ll say, part of the reason we can’t do a really cool instance or dungeon to obtain a certain item is because people will then come and say they are being forced. Making something obtainable through universal materials which are obtainable through pve and wvw will please both parties.
If we had a really cool dungeon, like I said, every PVP and WVW player would complain and threaten to leave.
The best way to solve this is by having the gating separate for alts. They need to do the same with dailies. This way, people can get laurels on multiple 80’s a day because they are separated. The account wallet gets in the way of this though.
So for one of the mats that is time-gated. Say I craft it on alt 1, now the timer is up. Make it so it does not affect the timer on alt 2, 3, 4, etc.
They simply just need to make ascended items available through multiple avenues like they do with exotics. The direction they are taking with this will simply further increase the importance of farming and having gold. Quite disappointed with Anet.
exactly what I want. Thank you
I don’t know if its RNG though. I don’t remember hearing that. I do know its time-gated though. And mainly because it gives us something to work towards. You know there are plenty of people out there who play 12 hours a day and who would be done crafting all 5 of their ascended weapons for chars in about 2 days.
1. It is RNG.
2. So? Gear should not be content. Gear should not be time gated. Especially in a game with horizontal and not vertical progression.
I don’t think she said that in the stream, that it is RNG.
“Only 2 weeks.” =-/
Not all that acceptable.
The whole Ascended gear thing has always alienated a certain portion of the userbase because it works against the way they play the game. I have personally tried to get this message across, and to offer ideas on a course correction so that players like me won’t feel ignored or alienated, but there just hasn’t been enough progress on the developer’s end.
And I really want this discussion to happen. Don’t get this off-track or closed or ignored due to conspiracy theories and bad behavior.
I don’t think its against the game at all. It is very farm heavy which I don’t like so much, but I do like the emphasis on crafting. I think its inline with their game philosophy because of its horizontal progression.
Well it’s still a huge money sink hole and not worth it.
1. You need to get from 400 to 500 with T6 and their prices are on the rise right now
2. One of the ingredients is gotten by salvaging level 80 exotics and has only a rare chance to drop.
It’s just simply not worth it. I’m tired of time gate and I’m tired of RNG. Why can’t we have karma and dungeon tickets like we used to? Why can’t we get new dungeons to earn ascended items in?I had this same complaint because I feel like the aim or horizontal progression in the game is creating this lack of content(dungeon) for rewards. I think it would be cool to have a series of missoins where we are sent back in time through FOTM to the crystal desert or the deldrimor dwarves area to receive the crafting mats. But then the WVW players would complain about being forced to do PVE.
what my problem is is lack of guaranteed reward.
At GW2 vanilla: you pay tickets gotten from dungeons, buy your exotic gear
GW2 now: for ascended you salvage exotics for a chance of a material, then you do jumpnig puzzles for a chance of a different (why different by the way, why couldn’t all give the same materials that way allowing the players to play how the want?) material, then you can buy one of the materials and then you have to run meta chains in orr for another chance of another different type of a material.
I brought this point up before. Why not introduce multiple ways of getting ascended gear? Why make it a time gated grind dependent on RNG?
I don’t know if its RNG though. I don’t remember hearing that. I do know its time-gated though. And mainly because it gives us something to work towards. You know there are plenty of people out there who play 12 hours a day and who would be done crafting all 5 of their ascended weapons for chars in about 2 days.

log in cuz theres new content every 2 weeks or new experiences in wvw everyday. WoW makes you log in every day because you paid for it.
True, new content is nice. The new content I have seen is just “Zerg Here” instead of “Zerg There.” There isn’t even a story in the content, you have to read it on the website.
There is, I promise, its just not always implemented in the nice way. The Living Story is currently the best bit of lore I think. Beyond that, learning about lore from different zones is rather difficult and you have to dig hard.
Lindsey mentioned this in the video, but I thought I would as well. A lot of comments I saw worried about grind and what not and how it was going to take them a month or more for their asc weapon. But she explicitly said it would take two weeks to get a weapon.
I honestly don’t see why its such a big complaint at the ascended crafting if its only 2 weeks. Amulets can take a month!!! If you don’t obtain laurels through achievement chests.
5) Picking a Norn was a bad idea
While my guy looks awesome, and it seems fitting that the Asari mage I am guarding (my wife’s toon, until she got bored at level 18 and stopped playing) only comes up to my knee, I can’t see half my screen. Makes jumping puzzles way harder than it needs to be. And I am sooooo slow! I think all characters have the same base run speed, but because my guy is so freaking tall it looks like he is just plodding along. Playing my wife’s toon travel just feels faster because those little legs are pumping away. I wish I could get my guy to run.6) Personal story is lackluster
Again, this might be because I picked Norn, but YAWN! I haven’t finished it yet (current quest is level 67ish) but I don’t really want to. Aside from being a boring story line (honestly, since the level 30ish quest I haven’t read any of the text and just skip the cut scenes since they are so boring) and being really weird that there is a dramatic fight and then everyone stops for a standing, face-to-face conversation while the others just stop and wait, it is BUGGY!The last quest I did I had been playing along for ~25 minutes, and then at the end of yet another cut scene that I skipped I was spawned in a wall. I could not move, I couldn’t jump, couldn’t /dance out. Nothing. Even googled for a solution, but couldn’t find one. So I had to WP out of the instance, and redo the WHOLE THING! Even knowing what to do this time it still took about 30 minutes to finish (because the waves of attackers take way too long to spawn, 30 seconds down time between waves that don’t even damage you or require cool downs? Really?). I have no interest in finishing the story.
7) Crafting – why bother?
I started crafting because it was a daily quest. I did armorsmithing and weaponsmithing. Both are ~100. But since I was playing in scaled down areas my blue gear 20 levels below me was still working fine, so I didn’t need to make any new stuff. And collecting mats to make your own was too slow, and it is cheaper to buy finished products than make your own. So I just stopped crafting, hoard mats, and whenever I have more than I can stash in the bank (250 of each mat I think) I sell the other stuff. Saves time, makes money, and gets me better gear faster through the TP. Why bother with crafting?8) Group dungeons
My favorite part of other MMOs has been the small group dungeons. Raids are great, but the amount of hassle to get them organized wasn’t worth it usually (Karazan being the exception. Loved that one). SWOTR failed me when I got into a pug for heroic version of whatever the hardest raid was on release, and we cleared the whole thing in under an hour. Those things are supposed to be hard! A pug clearing it so easily is just stupid.GW2 fractals are supposed to be hard. So I hear. Haven’t done one yet. I have only done one dungeon at all (the crypt or catacomb or something. whatever unlocks at level 30). It was fun, but quite easy (which one would expect since it was the first one to unlock). I have not done any others since there is no reasonable way to find a group. You can use 3rd party websites (totally absurd to even have to consider that option!) or just spam LFG everywhere, but no one wants to lowbie dungeons, and no one wants new people for harder ones. And no one is doing dungeons anyway since the LS farming is so insanely profitable compared to any dungeon at all!
And, I always played a tank in other MMOs. I think I am going to miss that.
9) PVP
Fun, but meh. Never been my thing.10) WvWvW
Haven’t tried. Seems like a mix of PvP and zerging. Sounds uninteresting to me.Conclusion:
Was fun to try, but not really sure why I should log in when I get home today. Farm for armor skins? Do a jump puzzle? With all the games in the world it seems like I ought to just try another.Or could reactivate WoW and pour money down that drain again….
log in cuz theres new content every 2 weeks or new experiences in wvw everyday. WoW makes you log in every day because you paid for it.
lol how bout just go along with it.
I saw a post on reddit about a newcomer to gw2 who was somewhat confused about the lack of lore. Again, when I first came to the game I felt the same way. I think this is because DE’s cannot communicate in depth lore. But the truth is that the guidl wars universe has a ton of lore. Its just a matter of implementing it better through the content that needs to take place. I’ll give them a chance on their ambitious plans for DE’s next year but im pretty skeptical on how they can do it.
And once they make the WvW achievements more attainable, you’ll move on to whining about the lack of especially ‘difficult’ and ‘prestigious’ WvW titles like this one.
Hmmm, well I can’t say that I would “whine” I am just stating an obvious failing of this portion of the GW2 world. However if they can add titles for such things as say, “respected achiever”, what is the problem with adding a respected yakslapper title?
As for the achievements, you could just make it so that instead of getting say 10 achievement points for 50000 kills you could get at least 50 for such a milestone! If it is possible to get this same amount for doing 16/16 easy achievement in PvE, I for one cannot see the harm in upping the rewards.
Although these titles might not be considered as “prestigious” if done in tiers I can see no harm in showing to others what you have achieved thus-far. The same goes for the “milestones” in our achievement points offering a title, even though 5000 ap’s isn’t much I see many many players touting that particular one.
edit: clarity and spelling
Last time I’m saying this for a good bit. We are going to address this system before the end of the year, ideally, and make it more in line in terms of numbers and rewards as the rest of the achievements in the game.
End of the year will be to late. When do the other games launch? ESO etc (ps beta is awesome).
Bailey give him some respect, seriously. Im sick of all the comments on here casually slapping around devon. Out of all the devs I think I see him comment the most. Hes being honest with you guys when he says he can’t put and exact date and thats the responsible thing to do. Would you rather have him lie and then be disappointed with a rushed product??? I can imagine changes to WvW are much harder than pve because of the balancing issues, especially like the changes to a map, or even building a new map. Id expect balancing to take months and testing.
Anet mentioned that they want to go back from instanced content and open up such things for all players. Recently seen in the Queens Arenas where players fought in non-instanced domes where other people could watch above a huge zergfest of the farming-community.
As for the new invasion-events: I don’t feel that these are a big step forward in the story-telling department. They feel more like a big zergfest. It’s nice that they are trying to break up zergs into smaller groups, but somehow players don’t see the point in splitting up since the bigger the zerg – the more champions spawn. Losing the event has no real consequences and is not much different from winning the game.
1. It’s really awesome that Anet listened to us players in giving us a permanent event which is here to stay.
2. it’s nice that it directs all players to specific non 80, non 1-25 lv. zones because those zones are rather empty otherwise
3. I feel a bit stressed that those events are on a timer, it’s more like: rush with zerg from A to B to C and ignoring the world around you.
4. I don’t like the visibility of events on the map. Why did they do this when clearly they stated that it isn’t good to have players see events happening far away. Travelling without the use of waypoints can lead to the experience that the event is over once you’re there.I also miss quests from other games. Not the kill 10 boars quests but some with heavy storytelling. Some DEs already have nice chains which tell stories (like the dwarven artifact chain in Lornars Pass) but these are only limited to very little background lore, short dialogues and sometimes feel a bit unfinished. (what about the secret order of whispers message “31 254 13 56”)?
please more of storytelling-events
When exactly did Anet say they wanted to do more instanced content? Cuz id really like that.
If you think there is no storytelling in DE’s, I’m afraid you haven’t been paying much attention.
Some DEs are pretty straight forward and don’t have any lore background, it’s true. Sometimes, it’s just a random attack on a city, like in Harathi Hinterlands for example. However, in most cases, DEs and most specifically chains of DEs have a little background story. In Frostgorge Sound I think, or one of the other snowy northern zones, there are events that feature the influence of Jormag, its minions spreading its corruption and the player stopping it by killing a veteran or a boss. The story is related through the dialogue, which you should pay attention to.
In pretty much every single DE, there is at least a small piece of dialogue. Granted, it’s no genuine scenario but it is present and it definitely tells a story – the “thickness” of that story varies depending on DEs, but the concept exists nonetheless and is widely featured in almost every zone.
What I wish would have happened is for LS to have more of an impact on the DEs of the existing zones. For example, a unique reaction to Scarlet’s invasions from each DE of each zone involved, instead of DEs overlapping as if nothing was happening. It feels out of place, and I think it would greatly improve LS and its impact, although I love Scarlet’s invasions.
But they still have there limitations. Look at Meta-Event DE’s. Those are chains and the closest things to chain quests. But again, they have there limitations. Because of the fact that they are on a cycle and the story behind the DE has to make sense so it can be completed frequently every 10 minutes or so. Like the Gates of Arah.
The entire Meta-Event makes sense because it demonstrates the back and forth(trench like) warfare between the vigil and the risen.
YOU CAN NEVER have a DE be used for a story that is one-time only. Like the death of a specific NPC. It just wouldnt make sense for that specific DE to be locked in time, on a loop, while the rest of the world progresses. THIS IS EXACTLY what the devs are doing with the Living Story Dungeons. They didn’t make sense to be stick around as an instance locked in time. Therefore they are adding them to the fractals of the mist.
This is exactly what this entire post is about. They can bring back missions/quests and implement them through the FOTM system because DE’s cant do them.
I don’t see what you guys are talking about. They havent ditched DE’s at all. The invasion events were an enormous stepforward for DE’s. They event said this was only the beginning and they have ambitious plans for the DE system in 2014. The point is that the very core of the game echoes because of the emptiness that DE’s can’t fill.
I think periodically releasing mission packs in updates that target lore from different parts of the world would be amazing. I don’t mean ones that you can buy if the gemstore if Anet could manage doing that xD But some time of system where you go into FOTM and play through a series of interesting storylines that tie into different parts of the world.
There is the living story which I like, but beyond that, a lot of the content seems really dry in terms of lore. Im just trying to demonstrate that Anet can’t take this DE route forever unless they make some big changes to it. Its not that they are bad, they worked really well with invasions events and I like those. But there are plenty of things they cant do that I listed on my OP.
