The only reason I question whether these are actually “new” weapons and by that i mean new models, is because the last photo on the march update shows a bunch of guildies wearing guild labeled gear. So im thinkin the new weapons are actually just new guild weapons? the ones with the logos on them? I guess I wanna get this clarified so when I tell other people I dont misinform them

So I couldnt help but get excited when I read “Extending guild missions isn’t limited to just content. We aim to improve rewards as well. To that end, a completely new set of weapons has been commissioned and made available at the Guild Commendation vendor.” So….does this mean they are brand new weapons, never in the game until now? or is it just some of the weapons already in the game but obtainable in a different manner?

Hate to say this, but not much there really peaks my interest. The Flame and Frost story line has been a huge disappointment to me, and this ‘living story’ just doesn’t seem to exist. Sounds like there might be some good additions for WvW, finally, but I don’t play WvW enough to be excited over it.

Man, I hate to be THAT guy who just complains. But, meh. It is what it is.

Oh, and the addition of three new bounties? Great.. now my guild has to try to find 18 bounties before we start the guild bounty mission. We are not that big and have a hard time finding half of them now.

I had to point out this is like the 15th time ive heard someone cry about the flame and frost. What was the disappointment? They said both months would be teasers? they have followed through, there is no disappointment. A lot of people have complained about flame and frost because they were too lazy or too ignorant to read up on it more.

Just a quick question:

Do you talk to scouts?

Of course lol. But do you see the point im getting at? Compared to gw1, this game is very void of lore, or at least the way it expresses it.

Why no mounts?

in Suggestions

SkylightMoon.1980

I think mounts would be cool. I certainly wouldnt agree with the premise that players dont want mounts, but they wont necessarily be disappointed if there arnt any. However I think its another area they could expand aesthetics. The riding broom is technically a mount, its just at the same speed as walking. But its cool, and after buying one I kinda hope they bring more of that into the game. At least a horse xD In an interview with Colin Johanson, he said that there is really no point adding them because of waypoints. Thats true, but the point is because of aesthetic value, its cool, its fun. You might as well say having different colored dyes is useless for that same reason. I think Colin said that as an excuse because Anet really doesnt have the manpower to spend on those types of things, sadly.

The superficial nature of Dynamic events

SkylightMoon.1980

Lately i feel the game is getting stale. I really love the game, I probably couldnt go to another MMO because of it. Its not secret that Guild Wars 2 really struggles with endgame, but it is also apparent that anet is trying to do something about it. But I think one of their biggest mistakes, that they must fix, is removing quests. Ill tell you my perspective on it. I really am someone who enjoys lore. I wanna learn more about each zone, and the history of it. I wanna know its significance. Right now, I can grasp no significance, or very little in each zone. As much as I search and talk to npcs, it is still very apparent that without traditional quests, there is a struggle to immerse the player in the lore and history of each zone. Anet apparently thought Dynamic events could replace that, however they were wrong. Dynamic events are great for spontaneous interaction with the world. Its exciting to go into a zone and see a dragon appear from nowhere, or defend a location from a swarm of enemies. Thats one thing that brought me into this game. However that only satisfies the living, breathing aspect of the game that continually is active. I say its superficial because of how short-lived it is. It looks and feels very fun for a few moments, but its dry very quickly.
I just think bringing in quests, or some type of more involved mechanisms to each zone would be good. Only with the purpose of doing justice to the lore, because right now I dont feel dynamic events do that at all. I know that guild wars has lore, and plenty of it, but I have to search practically everywhere outside the game of guild wars 2 to really get a grasp of it. I wanna learn about the past, not so much the present. The living story is great as well, im sure they can take it to new places, but that still wont do justice to the history of the past in guild wars.

One thing I noticed today, as I was completing the lost and found achieve, and obtaining the last two items, is that the refugees gvie dif dialogue afterwards. I went back and talked to all the refugees. Refugee Kirk, the norn, said he planned on moving to southsun cove with some of his own. I think thats kinda cool, it could turn into a new storyline in southsun cove. One of the new refugees that appeared today, refugee fivel is his name I think, said he plans on regathering a force and planning his next move. I think against the flame/dredge force. There are 7 npcs, each with interesting stories, and I really hope, probably hoping too much, that these individual storylines play out.

There is a refugee item in diessa, and wayfarer. A logbook, and a ship in a bottle. Sadly, I turned the two items in, completed the achievement, and no special reward That chieve took 3 weeks lol. Hopefully we somehow get credit in the end, I really was hoping for something cool :/

My opinion on the state of the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SkylightMoon.1980

SkylightMoon.1980

I cant fully agree. I think the guild mission system is fun. I am a progression type player and its a progression type system. Ye, technically u could unlock guild bounty instantly, but not guild trek or any of the others. Having a whole lot of money to spend only gets you so far because of merits. Plus, most guilds dont have that money. My guild of 500 people just now got trek, and we had to spend nearly all our influence. To reduce the build time of guild trek by 25 percent it cost 125k influence which isnt feasible in the eyes of anyone. My entire guild who is 20 percent active, casual and hardcore alike, really enjoy guild mission. The guild commendations are the best part. Some rewards are kittenty but others are worth working towards. Plus you stated laurels as if they were a grind to get? Seriously I think you have no clue of the true meaning of grind. Playing other MMO’s I can tell you the grind in this game is very little compared to others. The only serious grind is for legendaries which isnt for everyone. The one thing I think this game needs is more lore immersion. Dynamic events do very little justice to this games lore. There is so much lore and yet I feel kept in the shadows without a traditional questing system. Tasks are nice, but a superficial replacement and they could do better. Make a further quest progression after tasks that is optional, so the people who really do want to know more about that part of the zone can.

The Living Story - far too vague.

I suppose I could take it a step further and ask how I was supposed to know that there was a camp of refugees in LA… I think at some point we’ll get to the idea that there was a key yellow * that I should have looked for/talked to.

lol yur making a big deal outta this when it doesnt need to be. My god if you put in a little effort you would find its rather simple. I mean, first off, the new camp is in LA. There is a star marking it on the map. LA is one of the most popular spots in the game, I have a hard time believing you didnt overhear or even notice in the corner of your eye a new star on the map. There are 5 or 6 npcs to talk to there, they give you a little viewpoint of whats goin on. If you bothered during the Jan update, youd see each week new npcs showed up in the refugee camps. They would give you some snippits. Initially it was vague, week 2 and 3 suggested dredge and flame legion, but no direct connection between the two, and the last week finally confirmed their alliance by an npc. I think it would be unnecessary for a herald to send you mail each time a new npc showed up, or a new snow-covered object was found. If you’re too lazy to search, then thats ok, plenty of other players arnt. Finding the refugee items takes like 15 minutes. Just go to a zone and ask mapchat and chances are they will know.

The Living Story - far too vague.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SkylightMoon.1980

SkylightMoon.1980

I disagree. The point of the living story is to see the world evolve and make permanent changes. By the end of this I think we will see some permanent changes to the area. If you actually take time to delve in you can see possible narratives playing out. There is the dredge/flame legion alliance which we still have more to find out about. Plenty of npcs to talk to and get an opinion on. The consortium have stepped in and are acting rather sinister. I think the consortium business could split off into another storyline buiding up southsun cove some more.

Posted by: SkylightMoon.1980

SkylightMoon.1980

I have to disagree with most of you. I think the storyline is progressing fairly nicely. For those who are disappointed with the lack of content, I can only blame your ignorance. Multiple devs said January was just a prelude, and Colin even said before the Feb patch that you still would see small things progressing but the big storyline content wouldnt hit until March and April. I can already see mulitple narratives playing out. First, the main one, is the activity between the flame legion and dredge. The second is the suspicious nature of the Consortium. I think it could be an opportunity for this small branch of the storyline to progress into Southsun cove and we would see changes there as well, maybe even have upgraded events and lore in the zone. Another one I can think of are some npcs. The dead merchant, and his bodyguard came in Jan. The bodyguard has disappeared in the feb patch. Perhaps anet didnt feel it served a purpose, or perhaps there is something more mischevious in the nature. Another interesting one I liked, a tid bit, is how in Diessa plateau, an npc talks about how some cubs were killed when he escaped the attacks of the flame legion. There is a cub in Lions arch in the refugee camp that specifically talks about escaping as well. I think they are talking about the same incident. It would be cool to see a reuniting between the cubs and the older fellow I think. Give it a rest on the criticism. The Living Story has kept to its word in my opinion. Weekly we saw small changes to the camps and npcs in Jan. Lets see what happens this month.

So twice in a row, my guild was fortunate enough to encounter half baked komali. The guy is a tank. The first few seconds of the fight he loses health relatively fast. Then at bout 75 percent he pops a fire shield and takes absolutely no conditions, blasts fire damage in circles, and has about 25 stacks of might. Anyone know how to get it off? We had 20 people on him and didnt kill him in time. There has to be a way. Do you think dragging him into the fire would help? I really havent figured this out yet.

Dude stop crying, honestly. Small guilds have their benefits too. They are a tighter community. Big guilds usually arnt, but they have tons of influence. Even in a guild of 400 people I only see 60 active, and I know about 10 of them. Thats it. You make it look like your the victim and its annoying.

I figured an interesting side story to begin would be the grawl hitching a ride with the Consortium on the way to Southsun Cove, then beginning their own lifestyle there and beginning worship of some new creature they find, specifically the karka. Then southsun cove could develop more because of it.

Ive spent most the day in orr. The first thing i did was go to straits of devastation. But immediatley I noticed the risen mobs looked odd. They looked likethey did pre-jan patch. Remember how they were small, like the plaguebearers were about our size, then after the jan patch they got much taller than us. Well they were tiny like us again when I went there. So i figured it was just straits of devastation. But the I went to Cursed shore and it was the exact same thing, mobs like the plaguebearer are tiny again. Has anyone else noticed this? The abominations are the same size tho which is good.

Zhoqafa, a raiding experience

SkylightMoon.1980

Id heard a lot about zhoqafa on the forums. Ive seen it mentioned numerous times in connection with final rest. So I decided to give it a try. For the first few events oft he chain I had to solo. My guild was too lazy to help and it was rather disappointing. Only until the first escort mission came up did I find help. Another joined. We did well until we were stopped in our tracks by a champion risen abomination. kitten that guy is hard with 2 people. We failed, we got 3, we failed. I found 5, and we ade it to 75 percent health in 4 minutes. Luckily 3 passerbys joined in. And then another three. Soon enough we had about 12. Now things got exciting, and we were only haflway through the chain. The chain continued along until we encountered another Champion risen abomination, which took another 6 minutes. In all id say with 10 people the chain takes 40 minutes. We killed the eye of zhaitan and all was joyous. The chest spawned, and I was rewarded with a lovely set of blues. Not final rest sadly. But I came away realizing that was pretty kitten fun. It was one of the closest things ive seen to a raid in this game. Somewhat of a mini raid but still. with 10 people it still became somewhat challenging.

I really hope to see more of this in the game. As far as I know, and as far as ive researched. There arnt many long, brutal chains like that. I hope for their to be more. It seems like a great substitution for raids! The open world experience definitely substitutes the instance raid well in my opinion. I just want more of it, more chains like that. Id really encourage you all to go try it out!

Devouring the Brand(Meta Event) - Bugged

SkylightMoon.1980

Im on the crystal desert server. About a month ago I went to Iron Marches to check out the meta events there. The wiki page is not very informing about the meta event so I had to find it out myself. Back then when I went to do it. I was in the meta event status “Sentinel Whiptail is searching for a powerful ally in Lamprey Grottoes.
Protect Sentinel Whiptail while he finds and tames a siege devourer”
I escorted him through the event. And then it bugged. He stayed in one place at the camp, not moving, even though it said a new event started. So I waited for a while, it didnt work, then I left.
Again I came today, about a month later, and it was on “The Sentinels at Brandwatch Encampment are preparing to assault the Brand.” I was excited and I went to the location northeast of the Glorysteps. I am supposed to protect Sentinel Whiptail while he does the event. However, even tho his devourer is near the waypoint northeast of lake desolann. Sentinel whiptail is back at the camp near glory steps. Its like hes stuck in place. Hopefully you guys can fix this for me. Thanx. here are some pics

Small guilds need to stop complaining. If you decided to start a guild in the last month, which is late in the game, then thats yur fault and its not a smart move considering how difficult it is to grow when so many big guilds are out there. One thing that is currently not understood by all the community is that guild missions and unlocking them is intended to take months. Im quoting Colin on that one too. Its a new type of progression system. Bounty is the first one, obviously. It gives you a reason to gain influence, and spend it. It brings more purpose. If you don’t like progression systems then you probably shouldnt be playing an mmo.

Will Guild Missions need a levelled Guild

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SkylightMoon.1980

SkylightMoon.1980

Yeah I agree with concerns here, it does seem a little unfair but on the flip side maybe this is what we need. Surely a focus of Guild Wars 2 is to being a strong guild? This kind of thing would give players a reason to seek out other players to join their ranks.

Quite the opposite. This practically kills casual guilds, encourages people transfer from smaller to bigger ones, and discourages everyone from joining smaller guilds. It also runs contrary to the original suggestion that this content is aimed at both smaller and bigger guilds – it isn’t.

Dude thats not discouraging people from joining small guilds. People don’t usually join a small guild over a large guild anyways. So don’t place the blame on this. Small guilds constantly spark into existence, usually by noobs, and its usually late in the game, like now. They also usually only last a few weeks anyway because of the slow member recruitment.

Will Guild Missions need a levelled Guild

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SkylightMoon.1980

SkylightMoon.1980

Why are some of you complaining so much? Ye, it caters to some more developed guilds more than others at first. It gives guilds a reason to rank up their stuff. You could make an argument that any type of content benefits certain types of people. Its like saying Explorable gear isnt fair because it caters to level 80’s. This is an MMO. You cant expect ease of access to everything. The progression is necessary for the game.

Plus, most of the small guilds nowawadays have just started out anyways. Which is not very smart knowing the game has been out for around 6 months. You have a very low chance of recruitment. Plain and simple, people dont want to join small guilds of 50 people or less, even if it is active, you only see around 10 people online at most. Its much more preferred to a lot of players to join a large active guild where you regularily see 30-60 people online at once. Thats just the dynamics of guilds so don’t complain about that.

" Veteran Karka have Champ level HP and can kill 20-30 players with a single attack, and Champion Karka have Legendary x2 HP, you’d think you would know why Southsun is underused." Vince thats a gross exaggeration. You only need about 5 people to kill a veteran karka. That may be true about the champion karka where the rich ori used to be but I dont think they are so cruel to make us face him again.

Prove it. Have you been hit by the Veteran Karka rolling attack? It downs anything it hits. If that thing lines up right it can floor 20-30 players.

Champion Karka have Legendary level HP. When you ‘defeat’ them they shed their shell and regenerate their entire health bar. Young Karka do upwards of 15k damage with their spit attack unless you block, dodge or reflect it.

It’s not a gross exaggeration. Why don’t you go back to the Lost Shores feedback thread and tell all of those people that they were grossly exaggerating when detailing exactly what I just said in their posts?

Because ive killed a veteran karka. Go do it yourself its not hard. Last time I was in Southsun cove, me(warrior), another warrior, and a thief downed a veteran karka ourselves. I think you’re getting veteran and champions confused.

They are scaled, and bystanders will be rewarded for helping (just like every event in the game).

This response is not 100% accurate, yes you may get karma but you may still be locked out from chest events since they are based off the amount of participation.

Lol I think he knows what hes talking about he makes the game actually.

Final Rest - Current Theories

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SkylightMoon.1980

SkylightMoon.1980

With how low the drop rate is, and the likelihood that it’s a group event (so the Anet employee would need help from the community or from quite a few Anet employees) makes that not a real viable idea. The best Anet could really do (without revealing more about it) is to attain it on the test servers.

That would prove nothing though, since the test servers have frequently had cases where something worked fine there, but then faceplanted on the live servers. I think it’s reasonable to suspect that this is a case where everything looks perfectly fine on paper, all the numbers in the flowcharts seem to be in the proper place, and yet for some inexplicable reason the thing just doesn’t work on live.

I doubt Anet wouldnt notice something like that. The reason being that if it does srop from a major/popular boss, grenth, melandru, teq, etc. then id think anet would realize something is seriously wrong with the stats since collectively the players have killed each of those bosses at least a 1000 times since release. They did say the drop rate is very low but I doubt that low. Id still guess its in orr, just a much less popular legendary boss, like the one I suggested in the zhoqafa chain. The reddit user I had seen mentioned something interesting. He said during the final part of the chain where they meet the eye of zhaitan, he says something like “you have disturbed my FINAL RESTING place”. Along with thr fact that the people in the chain mention searching for something valuable

Final Rest - Current Theories

SkylightMoon.1980

So, after reading a reddit post, posted about last month this same time, im rather convinced the home of final rest is zhoqafa catacombs, at the end of the chain where you kill the eye of zhaitan. There also may be a good reason why it hasnt been obtained yet. The area is 70-75 and final rest is a lvl 80 weapon meaning only 80’s could pick it up, but, most of the 80’s wont be in that region farming. Straits of devastation, let alone zhoqafa, is a lot less popular than malchor, and finally cursed shore. It does sewm odd that a higher level weapon would drop in a lower level area only, but if its true it may explain why it hasnt been obtained yet. Like I said, the majority of the few who did complete the event chain were lvl 70-75’s.

I know right. I really think this could turn out well if they implement the right types of missions. I would think a mission having several steps to it would be fun. Like the main objective being “Take out this Bandit Leader” except we have to assassinate a few small leaders before hand, maybe gather info from them like finding out his location, and then once we find his location we have to fight our way through the camp to get to him.

Guild Missions

SkylightMoon.1980

So im really interested in the upcoming guild missions. The Feb page said

“Join your fellow guild members to take on an entirely new category of content! These missions, designed for coordinated group play, include everything from bounties to group puzzles to cross-country challenges. You’ll need to work together to complete the missions and earn new Guild Merits, which can unlock cool upgrades and rewards. It pays to be in a guild!”

So lets start the speculation. Ive really wanted more pve/team content so this will be nice. It says bounties in their. Do you think bounties like head hunter bounties? Maybe the guild is given a mission to take out a certain champion target in an area. That would be pretty cool in my opinion. It sounds assassins creed like lol. What I hope the guild missions wont be are quests given that basically tell us to do stuff that is already available in the world, like events. If the mission was like “Go and kill Tequatl”, that would seem a little boring in my opinion because of how often guilds get together and do that. I really hope it is something new and by new I mean new types of objectives or twists on old objectives.

What do you guys think?

The only people leaving this game are the same people who arnt satisfied with any other game they play.

they are doing events tho. i mean the flame and frost prelude is part of an event. it says we will be helping out the refugees from wayfarer foothills and diessa plateau. its still a story event but its part of a larger tale encompassing several months. i just thought theyd make a video to accompany the prologue of this story.

With all the other events in october, nov, and dec, they had videos anet made associated with the event. Will there be one with Flame and Frost? If so will it be coming soon, before the 28th? or later in feb?

Ye but there are plenty of small details you dont notice. I cant visibly see the detailed face of my character most of the time, or his suddle animations. but whenever i do its cool to stop and look and be like oh cool. they should add more recreational professions i think, not just some that aim towards gear progression. the professions should still be rewarding. i should mention, by profession i dont mean warrior, guardian, etc. i mean cook, blacksmith, etc. I just think adding recreational, rewarding professions would add more to the rpg element of the game.

Hi guys, first post here. As a frequent gamer what thing that can really make a game are the little details. GW2 certainly has them. The occasionally corny jokes churned out by the npcs; the peculiar items laying around the world that you can pick up, like a charzooka, plasma ball, random rocks, and there is plenty more i cant list; plus i love the small details added to the graphics, however i think they could go farther.

One thing ID LOVE to see and I think the community would enjoy as well would be the visibility of trinkets and rings. I know they are so small, but just the small glittering site of the ring you purchased would be cool I think. Its one of those small details and I certainly havent seen many other MMO’s do it. Perhaps small details could be added to distinguish rings, like color, transparency, luminosity.

Why stop there though? The true beauty I think that attracts people to MMO’s is the freedom it allows. But why conform to certain rules harbored by the typical MMO? Why not take it farther? Push the limits even more. I dont know if you will do this in the future but an expansive market of casual clothing would be interesting. Perhaps event allow small aspects of customization beyond color array. A guild symbol perhaps? Adding trivial customization to armor would be cool as well. Perhaps a small logo or symbol somewhere on there. Or an optional crest along your sword.

Perhaps professions that have never been done before as well. Archaeology had been done and WoW, and really im not trying to push this into a WoW cookie cutter but the game has soooo much lore. Perhaps you could add a recreational historian profession. Going amongst the world talking to different NPC’s. Solving clues and what not and piecing back the history of different parts of Tyria, kinda how we had the quests for the mad king book where we sought out different npcs from riddles. That would only be on aspect of the historian though. A progression and reward system would obviously be implemented as well.

I really think this game has a chance to shine, and first impressions of the game blew me away and im well pleased with the content that has came out so far, I just think that you should continue to push the limits of an MMO, expand on the freedom and take risks MMOs never have before. I really hope you take some of these suggestions into consideration, I honestly think theyd be fun in the game.
