Rev IS arguably stronger than mesmer. Their burst isn’t that threatening anymore now that people can tank/dodge most of their stuff. I’d even hazard a guess and say they’re back to their pre 6/23 state.

I don’t even have a mesmer on my account :P. Just speaking from my experiences on DD and DH vs them.

I only play DH and P/P DD so I’m generally speaking from experience. I farm full trap DHs with my DD. If they aren’t full trap, then their trap burst isn’t that threatening. If I force the shield virtue, I just BP > bound and wait it out. If he turns around, I follow up with sneak attack to spam blind and a small burst. The sneak attack itself melts through w.e aegis he’s current enjoying. I’m honestly shocked that a thief with as many games as you still refuses to acknowledge the possibilities and would rather cry nerf than take what’s there.

So using your skill with little to no CD (referring to unload, rapid, etc) and force him to burst his 70s CD skill to block for 3s. Cluster bomb is slow, but the guard is literally running in a tight circle picking up aegis (shouldn’t be that hard to land vapor blade in such conditions either). Not that difficult. Due to the stationary nature of two of LBs most powerful skills, he usually can’t pick up aegis AND attack without you knowing what’s up and dodging.

You have to remember that unlike every other class, guard has no escape skills and requires these blocks to survive. DH gave guards a 600 range leap and that’s it.

How about unload and rapid fire? Or warrior’s rifle flurry? Or engi’s nades? D/D ele’s fire auto hits three times (we won’t count that since it requires you to hug your target). D/D else’s water auto, on the other hand, hits twice per toss (one through and one when it returns). Mesmer GS is ezmode for breaking aegis. Thief’s cluster bomb, when detonated, hits multiple times if you aim it right and can be spammed. Every class has, more or less, one viable option for breaking through aegis spam.

On average, 3 attacks every 1.15 seconds. For the 11 aegis to be broken, we’d need 4.2 seconds to break the aegis. Realistically speaking, the aegis doesn’t all land in the same spot, so if the DH is hellbent on gathering all of the aegis, he’d eat a couple autos in between every few aegis pick ups. Assuming marauder, you’re doing about 1k autos (1.7k with crit). If he grabs the first three which are removed on 1.15s, he gets to eat another 2k damage (two autos) before the next. This is assuming all you do is auto and not try to CC him in between aegis pick ups.

What’s the net result here? He did nothing but waste 4s of everyone’s time and come out with less HP.

Except aegis can easily be burnt by an auto attack? You see him running around in circles trying to pick up fragments? Just auto him each time. He can’t attack while he has his back to you. If he’s sidestepping, he’s not using true shot so there’s no serious risk of burst. Aegis was only powerful on the base virtue since you could pop it immediately to react when you needed it. These DH sources of aegis (aside from the on CC) are very obvious to the attacker. Also, the aegis from base guard doesn’t get added onto DH.

LB5 doesn’t pull. If you see him drop the trap (very obvious bend over animation) make some distance and avoid that spot. If he hits you with the tether (which is still kinda bugged), break it by making distance. Also, you usually want to dodge roll over the point to check for traps. I’ve done it. Ive seen people do it, idk why the rest of you guys can’t.

Use your range to fight back or pop your invuln and charge in? Unless you have a ton of CC to force the DH (or whoever is sitting on point) for the decap, there’s really no point to confining yourself to that super small circle, especially vs a spec with so much aoe.

Shield of wrath: 36s CD untraited.
Shelter: 30s CD
Renewed focus: 90s CD (72 when traited, which is usually the case).
Virtue/shield of courage: 70s CD. Both apply aegis, latter blocks projectiles for 3s.

What is this about blocking every 10s?

I love P/P daredevil, but I find trickery to be useless on a ranged build. Why buff your steal, which teleports you TOWARDS your target, when you can take something else? I prefer acro over that for all of the vigor, hard to catch and don’t stop, but you could take DA instead for damage. I also take unhindered over bound because it synergizes with acro for 14s of swiftness on dodge and the super powerful ability to reposition yourself.

Also, I’m wondering if a jump Dodge done with bound could scale certain walls/cliffs? If so, then I’ll consider it better than unhindered.

Guard traps and Ranger traps

Ranger traps are condition based, DH traps are damage based. You can’t compare apples and oranges.

I don’t think the problem is the damage. Is the utility you get from them. Dragonhunter has a stun-breaker, most of their traps give boons on trigger. Dragonhunter has 2 instant cast traps rangers are all .5 seconds like the remaining Dragonhunter traps. The only trap that rangers have the provides some utility is the spike trap with the knockdown. When Dragonhunter traits into traps they get the same 20% cooldown but Dragonhunter gets a daze where rangers get a cripple (man if rangers got a daze the synergy with the daze train would be 10/10). Also as mentioned no elite trap for rangers.

Healing spring and spike trap a in good spots, give the other traps a bit more utility. Maybe make the cripple on trigger a bit stronger in some way (add another effect or change it to daze). Give boons on trigger of ranger traps: might for flame, protection for frost, resistance for poison, stability for spike. Add an elite ranger trap (or make new survival and use entangling roots as a trap, it kinda fits well as a trap and is also good for conditions like traps). Make one of the traps a stun-breaker.

It’s nice to see that traps for Dragonhuters feel more like traps, if you can ‘bait’ someone to run over them they are going to get punished for it and they will be rewarded. Would be nice to see some love for the existing traps (ranger and theif) to feel this way as well.

Note traps might need some sort of on point balance in the future because it’s easy to force someone on your traps when they have to run on them to capture a point. However if they make them balanced on point they will be relatively useless elsewhere in the game. Then again you can say the same about regular AoE abilities and capture points.

^sounds like legit suggestions for the ranger traps. I’d make a pulsing cripple trap elite for rangers that applies the prot/resist. Have frost grant regen. For the poison trap, give it a special effect that turns all healing the enemy does into extra damage so they can’t just panic heal and keep smacking away at you. Its about time anet started pushing their own boundaries and started giving classes more special effects instead of just giving everyone the same kitten with different twists.

I’m not complaining about traps but i wanted to correct this: if you activate the bladed prison trap, porting out will result in you taking the damage once, that still hurts.

But the damage on that trap is hardly worth all of the QQ. You take, at most, assuming marauder amulet, a 4k crit. You’ve ported out, taken 4k and now he’s stuck firing his ridiculously telegraphed true shots. GG

You trigger it, you teleport out of range. GG. I’ve done it on my thief and I’ve seen countless others do it man. Hell, I’ve seen people dodge roll right through the point before engaging me to clear the traps. There’s nothing that can be done if you’ve got the reaction time of a potato.

It isn’t a matter of nerfing elites or buffing base. Its a matter of design. Elites don’t just have brute force and nothing else. They’re more complex. They’ve got more/better mechanics to tinker with. They’ve got more flexibility. I say elites are fine. Base needs a total overhaul.

Had your targets….idk….figured after the first death not to stand on point vs you and focus you with ranged pressure, you would’ve went down even easier than a thief. No shelter, no RF, no focus, not even PF for some condi cleanse while you burn targets. Everything and their grandmother couldve destroyed a garbage build like that lmao.

I’ll agree that the aegis is kinda dumb. Our virtues line has an aegis on CC trait and that has a whole 30s CD. Maybe they should just remove the aegis entirely and drop some extra protection on it (like 2-3s). Not to mention that it also procs stab and even more aegis after the CC, so a follow up CC is usually out of the question.

Its what separates good guardians from bad ones. The attack itself has so much beautiful potential. The blind, I believe, is a crutch they tossed out to give the worse players something to crutch on. It may not hit as hard as true shot, but firing it off, deflecting something like a mirror blade, hitting the mesmer AND tossing a blind out? Amazing. That, I believe, is how guardians are meant to be played, attacking and defending simultaneously

1. I’m not crying about trip (or DD for that matter).

2. I totally agree that the ton of reveals arent fair, but stealth isn’t as important to thief as blocks are to guardian. Thief has SB to escape if things get hairy and they’re revealed. Guard has…nothing but a blind or two.

I do better as a DH than a medi, and it’s so much more fun aswell :P It just sucks that the pull on the spear is longer than the actual virtue and you can’t know for sure if its ready or not before using the spear.

Whats up with bow #3, it feels so weak and lackluster. Sometimes i dont even know why i use it. I’m not saying it’s good or bad, but there’s no feel/power behind the shot.

It has two parts. Projectile destruction and blind. If you destroy a projectile with the shot, its damage doubles. It, it my opinion, embodies everything a guardian is meant to do, which is attack and defend simultaneously.

Kinda because they lack stab and make for an easy target to focus? If they’re in their avatar state, they have 0 offensive power and can only spam daze and their natural convergence to try and delay you. Outside of the state (which actually takes a lot to top off if you aren’t a cleric/settler amulet), they’re just your average everyday ranger.

I main sPvP and never understood why people cared about tracks when all they did was sPvP. Its not like the armor applies to you especially when all you’re here to do is PvP. I, personally, did all the tracks once just to finish them all. Never really cared about what track I was doing after that. The only reward from PvE, as far as I can see, is the skins, since PvE is nothing but jumping through red hoops anyways. Let them keep their stuff guys :P.

Necro transfers condis, guard converts condis, thief cleanses in stealth, warrior has resist, rest of the other classes have normal condi cleansing methods that are common in most builds (aside from mesmer). Its not that difficult. The longer condi duration doesn’t make the condis hit any harder than they used to, it just means your dumb kitten gets rekt if you can’t cleanse those 1-3 conditions in 10-15 seconds (although I doubt they’re ever this high).

…poor damage? No aoe? Carefully consider how to kill veterans? Are you using a level 1 weapon in arah? I rolled around for an hour or two last night with just the longbow and new virtues and was literally crapping out damage like I just had a meal from taco bell.

Every attack you do with the LB is an aoe, brother. The auto bounces, 2 and 3 pierce, 4 and 5 are full on aoes. My true shot only lagged behind my WW by about 100 points of damage, but I didn’t mind much since I was chilling at a very comfortable 1200 range. I took on THREE veterans last night + about 2 normal mobs with DH, so I have 0 idea what you’re talking about.

If you’d like proof, I could gladly try my hand at soloing it if you’d like. Add me, I’ll be on in about 5 hours.

I finally tried it and instantly forgot why I was salting back during the initial announcement. Give it a try, OP. There has to be some sort of entertaining alternative using your new spec.

CoP, smite, and VoRx2 isn’t enough cleanse? I wonder how every other class survives. Bunker guard usually run pure of voice and trooper runes, no? Read animations and avoid the obvious condi applications. For the ones with little to no condi application, then you use your cleanses. You seriously need to look at yourself and your build if you can’t bunker vs 1 person o.o…..

Playing Skyhammer/Courtyard/Spirit Watch is not fun. Plain and simple.

It isn’t fun because troll mechanics could sometimes keep you from winning or give you a win you don’t feel you worked for. I understand that mentality in ranked, but you shouldn’t be so serious in unranked. In fact, some the most BS deaths I’ve experienced happened to me in skyhammer and they provided me with the most lols I’ve ever had in sPvP.

Cuz dragonhunter doesn’t fire arrows. He fires godkitten ed lasers. No need for aim when you can just blast everything with lasers.

No, it is not possible to use elite specializations in PvP if you do not own Heart of Thorns.

Yes, elite specializations are far superior to normal professions, and have no drawbacks whatsoever.

No, you cannot choose to join matches with other players who do not own the expansion.

As a guard main, DH comes with no drawbacks. Sure, you lose virtues and team support, but you gain so much for yourself its ridiculous + a weapon that actually functions at range.

Best anet could do without segregating the community so hard would be to make matchmaking balance out the amount of elite users with non elites, like 2-3 elites per team.
