Let there be an account age threshold. If its a practice mode, then its a practice mode and newbies shouldn’t be facing dragons. At the same time, if a dragon wants to practice, practicing on keyboard turners accomplishes nothing, golems and duel servers would serve that purpose better. The whole concept of just jumping in makes no sense when the game mode is STILL structured PvP balanced around 5v5s. If, for instance, you’re in for a terribly imbalanced match, let there be a 15% buff to stats for every missing player on your team, going all the way to 60% if you’re the only guy. Since its hot join and not even unranked, there shouldn’t be any objections to something like this.

But if your hiding in stealth all day, you’re not getting kills. If you aren’t getting kills, you aren’t going to win. Camp stealth all day if it makes you happy, but that’s just sad and boring.

Also, a suggestion to add on, what about having random power ups all over the map. These power ups spawn at random locations. This will be done to avoid bunker and ai builds just camping a corner. Trap builds will have incentive to scout out prime locations and booby trap the hell out of them. The buff lasts long enough to be able to stack with a second power up, but expire after half the duration of the second has been used up.

Turrets dont move. Spirit weapons expire. Ranger spirits dont move. Ranger pets are a class mechanic (and they’re still weak). Clones do nearly no damage and are basically body block fodder until the mesmer decides to shatter because of the removal of on death traits. Phantasms literally attack one every 5 or so seconds. Both clones and phantasms are ez kill too. Banners don’t move and only apply buffs. Elementals expire. Rock dog and bird are rune bonuses, take them on your minion mancer too if you want. Idk much about the tablet, so I won’t comment.

List of things that necro minions do. Like spirit weapons and turrets, they have secondary functions (a command skill). They’re also mobile, which automatically makes them better than banners, turrets, and ranger spirits. Unlike clones and phantasms, you don’t need to kill your minions as your primary source of damage. If you want to talk about ranger PETs, let’s talk about how death shroud is 10x better than their garbage pets.

Hit it right on the nail. The issue is, I think they intended for you to be forced to trait for precision, otherwise this would be a clear cut choice for people wanting to use something like soldiers but wanting to still DPS. Imagine if bunker guardians could take this amulet and still deal good damage. We’d have the bs sustain meta all over again.

The list of mesmer things to be fixed has already been narrowed down quite nicely. As you said, its PU, CS, and blinding disappation. All of these need a simple number tweak and blinding disappation needs to not hit through and evade. Its quite simple really. Balancing D/D ele, on the other hand, not so much.

Well, if the engi isn’t bad, he isn’t going to make approaching him easy. Once you’ve burnt steal, if he isn’t dead/close to dead, you’re going to have to escape. As most people have said, your role on a team is to cap points and +1 targets. If you want any chance to best him, I generally recommend forcing the gear shield and/or elixir s if he has it. Once those are down, get to work reking. You generally want to dodge roll when he puts a turret down, because that is usually followed by a knock back with some decent damage. Dodge the magnets. Bring a condi cleanse or two when/if you get hit by the burning burst. If its a marauder engi, avoiding his damage just got 100% harder for you, although that does mean he is a tad bit squishier.

I’m not complaining lol. And I HAVE played other professions (only really got into depth with guard, but that isn’t saying much). I was just hoping to see if I could toss out a line and pick up a few choice tidbits from other players and perhaps even help out other people who are too afraid or just don’t care enough to wade through the general toxicity and condescending nature of this side of the forums :P. Also, looking for advice on how to beat better players than I am is kinda how getting better works, unowatimsayin?

That logic, in and of itself is flawed. I suppose mesmers should throw up a thread on why power block doesnt do over half of its tooltip on theives. You know why mesmers don’t make a thread like that anymore? Because the answer from every person would more or less be “because theives work differently”. I’m sure if you want to apply that logic, you should out fighting to make sure theives finally suffer a CD increase on their weapon skills when interrupted by a power blocker now.

Now, I’m sure everyone has experienced the 6/23 patch. Some people have changed up their builds. Some people have changed entire classes. Some people loved the crap out of their new toon. Some people starting crying bloody murder. Most of us who’ve been rolling around the forums lately have come to witness ridiculous amounts of ragesaltkittenQQ, some justified and some…not.

Now, my intentions for thread is call all tournament/class aficionados and maybe even anet to come discuss the current hot topics. I’m fairly certain this won’t stop mindless QQ, but I’m fairly certain that this should be able to assist our more knowledgeable and level-headed players in finally making sense of this and maybe, in turn, getting the ragers heads on straight.

Before we begin, I’ve currently begun running around with a marauder engi and am currently loving the absolute crap out of him. I’ve been rocking a ridiculously beautiful win ratio (in unranked, cuz I’m still not confident enough to run into ranked and potentially ruin a serious player’s time). That being said, I’m not having much trouble with mesmer (yeee lock on), but I do know I haven’t even begun to witness the true pros at their class, so I’ll reserve my judgement until then. As for D/D ele, I generally tend to gank them and hope for the best. Fortunately, not much can stand up to a free casting engi, especially if its already occupied

ALRIGHTY, ZA HOT TOBICS:

-Mesmer. How do you better players tend to deal with them? How do you formulate your tactics when you know the enemy team has a mesmer that isn’t crap? Assume the usual mantra PU sword/torch + GS build.

-D/D Cele Elementalist. Same questions asked for mesmer. Assume water/arcana/fire.

-Rampage. Now, this isn’t really an issue for anyone with eyes and ears, but people still bring this up from time to time. What are the best tactics to stop the “unstoppable” juggernaut.

-Burning. Again, same deal with rampage. A single cleanse and memorizing burn stacking animations is usually all that is needed, but people just drool over the numbers and their minds go blank.

I think that about covers it.

Oh and if any ANET employee feels like answering, dropping any ETAs for future plans (as far as you’re willing to allow) would be fantastic.

Tbh, I think anet needs to start solidifying class roles. If an ele wants to bunk, they should be able to bunk/support/CC without DPS. I mean, this issue exists in a similar capacity with meditation guardian, except they’re usually locked down into direct damage with little CC options, which is manageable. You either specialize or become a generalist to the extreme. Such a basic concept, but I believe an experienced player/anet need to come in and finally set the forums straight.

Roll around duel servers. You’ll eventually find a PvP centric guild. There is a guild affiliated with aspectgg (or some kitten like this) that deals with all skill levels you could join (I’ll probably update with info tomorrow if you’re interested).

Thing is, you have to understand that every game mode has an endgame. For PvE, its all that fractal and speed running crap. For WvW guilds, its….WvW. For sPvP-centric guilds, its tournaments. Get to know some people and aim for e-sports or just stick to solo-qing.

Same argument people use when the complain about guardians blocking like crap while they roll their faces on their keyboard expecting to win. Same argument people use when they cry about them refusing to take mobility and then getting kited by half the classes in the game.

Point is, some things deserve nerfs -cough-immortald/d-cough-, but moa countering ONE build is not one of them.

Imagine dueling party members over drops, or for over world events. That would absolutely amazing. Honestly, what I think the reason is is that anet doesn’t see PvP that isn’t happening inside of the sPvP arenas as actual PvP. They even called WvW players as PvErs making the slow transition to PvP. Any game that isn’t in a tournament isn’t given much thought.

For the people disagreeing with the OP, it doesn’t exactly have to be a fractal track. I’ve finished and repeated so many tracks now that it just bores me, and I only have around 700 hours. Imagine what the guys sitting on 2-3k feel about any kind of PvP reward.

I picked up S/F. Played it for a while. Loved it. Didn’t do well at it. Played marauder static discharge engi. Never looking back ever again. If you loved S/F, engi is your next move OP.

Now that its been mentioned, my money is on stances of some sort. Thing about engi is that they’re so diverse in what they can already do, it’ll be hard to figure out what gap could be filled. Maybe this’ll be a bunker of sorts?

Woah woah woah. DONT burst his SoW? That’s terrible advice. Amplified wrath has a 1s ICD so just by auto attacking, you should proc two stacks of burn at the very most for about 2-3s. If he’s a power guardian, that burn shouldn’t be that big of a threat. Leaving the power guardian to have his SoW burst can (and will) do an unholy amount of damage. In sPvP, with around 10 might stacks and marauder amulet, my guard’s SoW burst for 6k. Im fairly certain you DONT want to try tanking that in WvW, what with its inflated stats. If he’s a burn guardian, you’ll most likely see him open with torch instead of the usual SoW > JI > WW combo.

Except you can’t name any viable 1v1 response to mesmer, can you? Its the same issue with D/D cele, except you can’t face tank 2-3 people. The specs I listed were strong. Mesmer is beyond that. You may not want to admit it because you feel that it would detract from what little accomplishment you feel you’ve derived from the game. With my particular spec, I don’t have much issues facing mesmer in terms of spec strength vs spec strength, but I still find it rather saddening that you’d be willing to defend this cheese. I mean, its so easy that I literally rolled a mes, jumped into PvP and racked up 10 kills and 3 deaths using the meta mes build. The only other spec that I ever found such ease with was pre patch ranger. You could call my targets bad, but they can’t have been anymore clueless than a dude with less than an hour on his toon.

Just FYI, I’ve been running a marauder engi recently.

Different coloured phoenix stomps would be absolutely golden. A black shark, a blue phoenix, a golden dragon. Regardless of what they do, they need to implement actual goals now. I’ve ran out of tracks and don’t even care what track the system assigns me to now.

Mesmer is really good right now with several viable builds. Take domination, dueling, and a greatsword and you’re all set, the last trait line is just for either some extra support/sustain/survivability. The condi shatter builds are also pretty decent with carrion too. Don’t play the faceroll mantra builds though, it’ll keep you from getting better since the stunlock mantra won’t teach you how to shatter at the right time and it’ll probably get nerfed anyway. Playing mantras would just make it harder for you to learn how to be a good mesmer.

Look at you and your edgy self. I don’t know if it occurred to you, but people play games for fun. Another platform exists where you get to try hard and go for the win, although I’m not sure I’d be capable of simplifying it in terms you’d be able to understand. Sweating over using the most powerful triple S rated builds isn’t what maaaaany people define as fun. Also, that website is full of kitten.

To answer the OPs question, elementalist probably deserves most of your time. Their best build is the strongest in the game, hands down. Their other builds are men and aren’t really discussed much. Mesmer is also a good choice since practically any trait combination works. Ranger, on the other hand, is a free lunch for 99% of builds.

Are we going to forget the fact that shelter can keep you alive vs a whole team of focus fire while litany would require you hit everyone for it be to comparable? Or that shelter synergizes with other on block traits? Or that litany requires healing from ONE condition that can be easily cleansed and your pitiful precisionless attacks?

Also, freely repositioning is just not a part of the guard’s description. Hard to NOT be in the middle of the fight when all of your gap closers drive you closer to an enemy.

Some specs just have it easier vs other specs. That’s just how it is. Should burn guard cry about necro returning conditions? Should ranger cry about being unable kite thief/war? Should zerkers cry about all of a guard’s blocks? Also, you’re a power shatter. You shouldn’t be dealing any conditions worth anything to begin with and even then, you should be able to quickly finish him if you’ve dealt all of your respective vuln stacks.

I find it ridiculous how you find any ground with which you could stand on to base your complaints upon, considering the fact that you’re a mesmer.

Are you not an engi or mes? Get to cleaving the minions. Once the minions are down, take your time reking the necro if you can neutralize, since they don’t really deal much damage on their own.

That’s the thing though. Well played mesmers are veeeeeeeery far and in between. The rest if them are kittenters who end up spamming mantras and crutching on stealth. Personally, I give up. I’m going to run elixir s and join them in the stealth kittenry.

Woflineer’s juggernaut build works nicely. The pulsing stability makes it nearly impossible to be locked down unless they burn all of their CC in one go. If you decide to run lock on instead of streamlined kits, its kinda GG vs them if you don’t mess up.

Also, mirror blade on its own isn’t too powerful. Sure, they could burn it on your block to have a shatter ready and waiting for when your shield went down, but they’d be wasting MB for nothing lol.

Well, the idea behind the build was to set myself up with the most possible CC and burst.

I know of the more generally used engineer builds and know of the kind of healing you can get from blowing up your turrets in the water fields, but I felt that I had to play more cautiously with them out. With AED, I get that nifty daze on my toolbelt, and some insurance when I KNOW I’m about to get bursted down. This also has served me really well with AMR and, coupled with gear shield/slick shoes’s toolbelt, has allowed to escape many encounters I, honestly, should’ve been rekt in.

I looked at alchemy and elixir s, and while they were quite powerful (nothing beats a good ole invuln), I felt like they were quite crutchy and didn’t synergize well with the utilities I had in mind. Thanks to lock on and AED, I don’t need to worry about getting stealth ganked, unless I’m +1ed where in which case, they’d probably be able to down me without stealth regardless.

Also, 1v1ing is exactly what this build shines at lol. I’ve gotten into a few fights vs burn guards (which should’ve been an insta loss for engi), where I would whittle their HP down to half (by this time, their burn has gotten me dangerously low), I would then promptly activate AED and then throw a hail Mary. The result is usually a dead guard, but its sometimes a dead me.

As for kinetic battery, I generally tend to burn it on my moa potion (nothing sweeter than that IMO). Because of my general lack of vigor, I was really considering adrenal implant, but again, being free to burn my moa in a 1v1 and then being able to either burn it again or have it ready immediately to burn twice in a team fight (deal closer) is so very sweet.

My only issue is, funny enough, against rangers. I’ve been looking for ways to pick up some kind of projectile reflect/destroy, but I just can’t seem to let go of what I currently have. My fights with them usually start out with me gear shielding through RF, tossing my ram toolbelt, and then the good ole magnet > crowbar combo. If I pull everything off right, they wouldn’t have a chance to use SoS, but they’ll still be nuisance nonetheless.

That is until you fight a non-kitten mesmer/thief. Then you realize “golly, I really should be playing my guardian to his strengths rather than playing him like a warrior”.

Without shelter, you have VoC x 2 (assuming RF) and SoW along with 4 blinds (assuming radiance sw/f). That’s 5 blocks and 4 blinds, all of which can be removed with a total of 9 of any kind of attack. Of course, no one is going to throw all of their damage at a guardian at once, because they’re assuming shelter, and you wouldn’t burn all of your defenses at once, especially vs another burster. Mesmers can literally melt through that with their GS auto while kiting with ports until all of your crap is down. Thieves can do this as well, but its a little harder to not be burnt to a crisp. You wanna face a zerk warrior with LESS defenses? Lolk. D/D ele is always out of the question, regardless of heal. Engi is meh. Necro depends on if they have any of that transfer bullkitten. If they do, GG.

I get that people are bored of running shelter, but there is absolutely no way there would be any heal that tickles the bottom of its feet, let alone match it. I guarantee you if warriors got a heal with a block tied to it, they would never stop using it. The moment people know you don’t have shelter, welcome to necros world of being focused non-stop.

I play marauder engi and I generally don’t have issues if I can get the jump on them. If I can’t, I run away until their stab is gone AND then get to reking. If a team mate is present, I let the team mate run in while I nuke from afar without any problems, making sure to CC any skills that would give us any problems.

Considering the fact that warriors can match our rifle damage (if not exceed it, even without KS) with a decent amount of CC, I find it rather odd that the range isn’t the same.
