Got it – I understand what you meant now. But the article was the point I was referring to – that the systems could be adjusted and it would definitely be more engaging. Anyone else have thoughts on the article?

I kind of just browse over it.

I used to think the same way the author does. But after a while I reailize I can do anything in pve to make 10 gold per hour.

If you dont’ think 10 gold per hour by doing what ever you want is good enough, I have nothing more to say.

Obviously you can do boring stuff like spend all your time killing candy corn or opening a ballizion number of wintersday gift.

But if you found that fun, go ahead. I’m already making really good money by playing anyway I want.

Well, but you AREN’T playing how you want…you’re just farming…and nobody really WANTS to farm…that was kind of the author’s point.

Btw, for those that don’t want to read the whole article, the author put a TLDR at the end:

“Conclusion (a.k.a., TL;DR)

The loot system of Guild Wars 2 is so abysmal because of the decision to attach nearly everything to the Gold Standard. Everything can be turned into gold, and acquiring what you want is just a matter of getting the needed gold and going to the Trading Post. This is a direct consequence of the maxim “Play How You Want.”

The knock-on effect of this decision is that the most efficient gold making in the game drives the market’s prices, especially for extremely rare items. People who want those items feel compelled to be efficient, and stop doing what they want because it won’t get them what they want. Or they don’t, and never get what they want.

There already exist in the game places where the Gold Standard doesn’t hold true (chiefly by using Account Bound on Acquire), and there’s a high emphasis on the exclusive aspects of the area.

Taking those ideas and implementing them as a “second system” for extremely rare, Gold Standard-based items would reduce the complaints about the unrewarding loot system, as well as increase satisfaction about what does drop.

The main difficulty of such suggestions is that it would require a philosophy change on ArenaNet’s part, as well as create some unavoidable economic upheaval as the new systems re-balanced around the player base’s desire to do things the old vs. new way.

I think these negatives will be more than outweighed by the positive press and reaction of players who have quit the game on account of never feeling rewarded."

I have one idea. Make those players pay 100 gold for getting the map completion for 1 map (would be 400 for all maps). This would be a gold sink for the game.

I like to kill pve players in wvw, but I also dont like them rallybotting in my team. Would solve 2 problems with 1 change. Elevate the player skill in wvw and remove gold from the economy.

Or better: half the gold in their account.

When will we see any sort of meaningful improvement to the WvW gamemode?

It seems like it’s taking forever for the Anet development team just to implement the suggestions from the last CDI on how to improve the Stonemist battle and harmonize rewards between WvW and EotM.

Does Anet have a team making new content for WvW?

Sounds like people are convinced nothing will happen. There are only two options to significantly change how fights/zerging works right now:

1) PPT alteration possibilities (use your imagination)

2) “Requirements” for logging into WvW (would require removing PvE elements)

Neither of them are likely – but they would certainly change things.

This is something that comes up from time to time – OP’s original solution and all. Let me give you the tl;dr:

1) When leveling a character, go STRAIGHT to WvW maps to do them first – this way, you can get the Vistas, POIs, and Skill Points your server is closest to relatively easily

2) Check back every week (reset is Friday/Saturday depending on your global location), which usually includes a change in section of the map your server holds – I recommend checking every Wednesday/Thursday

If you do those two things, completing WvW maps is a relative breeze, at least compared to doing PvE first, then WvW.

Edit: Also, during the week (usually Wednesdays/Thursdays), most servers are lighter on volume of people playing – as opposed to weekends.

It would mean they were at the one ticket price far longer than most sets.

All I’ve seen is them being raised on 5 tickets in the same patch that introduces the next set.

I very clearly asked when they would be raised.

While I don’t think that WvW equipment should be split off entirely from PvE, I would like to see a “WvW build” saved so that when you log into WvW it automatically swaps in your favourite WvW build and equipment so I don’t need to spend a couple of minutes each time changing my weapons, armor and traits. :P

Yes, but I don’t see how a WvW build save would work WITHOUT mirroring the PvP set up. It really needs its own system. Again, I think this would result in people that come to it staying longer, and even increase the draw to WvW.

He means for example: I have a power build for my guild raids (zerg-busting) and i have a condi build for my solo roaming, its a pain to have to switch out all the gear, traits, skills etc every time I switch ‘game mode’. It would be a cool (and a lot of wvw players agree) to be able to maybe save it as a tab on the equipment section of the hero panel ‘power’, ‘condi’ and with one click of a button switch build completely.

I COMPLETELY agree – like profile saving in GW1…which has been requested uber-many times. But the point I’m making is that I don’t think you can “activate/swap” from one profile to another WITHOUT having a separate system in WvW…unless you’re talking about implementing the profile system across both PvE and WvW – which would be great.

But again, just having a profile system wouldn’t attract more people to WvW…because the profile system would presumably be across both PvE and WvW. I guess I just don’t know which would be more difficult to implement: a profile system or mirroring the PvP set up style to WvW. But if players were able to tinker with builds in WvW the way they are in PvP, population, I believe, would increase.

I think that separating WvW builds from PvE would do one of two bad things. Either it would introduce a new barrier to entry, if game currency was involved, or it would invalidate significant player investments, if current gear became PvE only.

Great thoughts – but I don’t really understand HOW it would introduce a new barrier. PvP has had its system since launch…albeit the layout for selecting everything changed (HUGE improvement imo). I’ve noticed that there are TONS of WvW-only players…and since they have a handle on it, they kinda down-play PvE except for the skins. So, my point is, make it quicker to find the build you want in WvW, and introduce new players to it faster, just like PvP (I would never have done PvP if it didn’t have the system it does).

Here, I’m a failure story. I have played the game since launch with a break or two in the past six months. At most I think I had 300g, but that involved having excess gems from purchasing things like infinite pick axe or other temporary/seasonal items.

On average I hover around 50g in my pocket. right now I have 20g and it does not move very far.

I do not farm to any huge extent, I salvage everything as I am still farming mats. I upgrade full stacks to higher tiers when capped out on lower level mats.

I salvage yellows for ectos and bank or use them myself and I save exotics to try to mystic forge on the off chance for a precursor.

I have gotten a few random exotic items I was able to sell for short term boosts in gold, but nothing concrete.

I have “tried” to play the market. Flipping I fail at and investing never pays off, so I fail at understanding how to do it….buy low sell high? I use gw2spidy and look at trends, I buy low and sit on things but after a week or two I give up and sell it back to break even or minimize loss.

So I either need to farm for hours and do large community events, or I need to learn how to trading post better….or both

Majority of my time is spent in spvp and theory crafting builds.

Am I the average player, or is everyone else way better off than me?

Nah don’t worry, I’m exactly the same. I think at one time I had little over a 100g but then I reached lv80 on an alt and due to having to gear him up I got back to around 20g.
On average I also hover around 50-60g or so.

That’s why I never even bothered trying to craft a legendary. It has always just seemed like an impossible task for me.

You guys are pretty much the average players – and there is NOTHING wrong with that. I think what I’ve learned in the last two years is that you CAN get what you want out of this game. But most people don’t actually DETERMINE what they actually want first – they just assume “the best” must be what they want. Do you REALLY want a greatsword (for example) that you can select “Giver” stats on? Then why would you craft a Legendary? I use two Ascended greatswords: a Berserker and a Sentinel. And it’s pretty much faster to swap between the two than it is to select from the Legendary stats.

The only Legendary I crafted was the Flameseeker Prophecies. It’s a shield, and isn’t all that useful except to look at and take screen shots with. None of the other Legendaries look anywhere near as cool. And functionally speaking, I’d rather have the two Ascended greatswords that I can keep different sigils on for TOTALLY different purposes.

I have all Ascended. MUCH cheaper and faster to produce relative to Legendaries. Personally, I think everyone should be awarded a precursor at every 10k or 15k achievement points. This would actually HELP the economy for both the “wealthy” and the “poor”.

For those that currently think a Legendary equals progression, perhaps you have not thought through what you want out of this game.

Hey Anet,

I LOVE WvW, but playing a lot lately, I’ve noticed two things that could be modified to increase the love for more hard core WvW players:

1) Instead of random Ascended Rings dropping, have an “Ascended Ring Ticket” drop that people can go to a vendor and exchange it for the ring they want.

2) Auto-loot everything dropped from a slain enemy into Inventory with the exception of 1 open space so that the player doesn’t get encumbered.

I only made two assumptions:

1) Reordering the AP rewards isn’t as easy as switching around a table for those that already have the rewards (if you’re going to do it, you have to back out the rewards people have already achieved and let them “re-choose”).

2) The “right-sizing” solution is possible without reordering. This is where I’m thinking about the implementation of rewards and the wardrobe.

I think what you’re getting at in the rest of your response is that these are straight data-mined, not confirmed items. All I can come up with in response is, “Why would they put something in code and then not release it, particularly when it relates to items many have already acquired? (gloves, helm, pauldrons)”

Let me try approaching this another way: would you rather they focus efforts on revamping the AP reward structure, or focus efforts on additional content that will include additional AP accumulation?

Restructuring the ap reward mechanism is simply moving some numbers and letters around in a data base. It shouldn’t take some one more than a few minutes in a day.

And you’re still over looking the fact that we’re getting less ap now than we did during living story season 1. I don’t have exact numbers but I would guess that for all 4 parts of season 2 released so far we’ve received less ap than we did for just one single release in season 1.

I’ll concede that we are getting less AP now, that’s just true. But I’m not arguing that. And I get what you’re saying: AP accumulation, since it has decreased, is a trend in the opposite direction of where it needs to go. And perhaps reordering the rewards is easy, but I suspect it takes more than one person a day, considering what you’re talking about is reversing out rewards already provided (I went with the Radiant armor, but now that I see the full Hellfire set, I’d actually change).

But what I’m getting at is this: I’m certain there’s a solution to this that “right-sizes” the current reward structure that doesn’t require them reordering and backing-out the rewards. It has to do with AP accumulation. I won’t be surprised if as a result of this thread in fact, Anet moves forward with an adjustment to AP accumulation (previously and future), if they didn’t have it already in the works.

I don’t think this company has let me down. I enjoy the game and take it for what it is. If they change the ordering of the AP rewards, I’d actually be fine with it. But HOW they make the change (reordering and backing out rewards vs increasing AP accumulation) is as important as WHY they make the change (listening to complainers vs thoughtfully considering their current structure). You’ve made good arguments, so I no longer think you are just complaining.

I’d REALLY appreciate it if a dev would weigh-in on this. In fact, I’ve been keeping the argument going so this thread doesn’t disappear. Without any meaningful back and forth, these threads die the death of lame new posts.

You are just basing your “reasoning” on wishful thinking, that is currently not consistent with facts.

It’s not wishful thinking, and it is consistent with facts. The entire AP structure was started without having the reward system in place at the beginning. When the reward system was implemented, they incrementally provided rewards. The wardrobe itself was a HUGE revamp of their approach to armor and transmutation. If those two examples alone don’t give you clear indication of what this company is doing, then you are just trying to argue for argument’s sake.

Therefore it follows that the content will come, but people just want to complain rather than realize programming can be adjusted, and not necessarily the way they prefer.

You dropped the “not necessarily the way they prefer” part. That was a significant aspect of what is going on in this discussion.

Let me try approaching this another way: would you rather they focus efforts on revamping the AP reward structure, or focus efforts on additional content that will include additional AP accumulation?

Have you even read this thread? The spacing of the armor pieces being 3k ap apart has nothing to do with it. It’s the fact that you need 33000 ap before you can finish one set. Followed by 36000ap to finish the second set. And the fact that it is currently impossible to do so.

Try reading the entire thread before making your argument please.

I’ve read every post. I don’t think you understand the difference between argument and complaining. Your complaint is entirely based on current in-game AP accumulation, with no regard for what Anet is most likely going to do in the future. My argument is that Anet has a plan, and that plan requires an increase in AP accumulation. Therefore it follows that the content will come, but people just want to complain rather than realize programming can be adjusted, and not necessarily the way they prefer.

If it means nothing, what are you complaining about? You really need to think about what you are actually writing.

Everything I read in the responses point to impatience and “how impossible” to achieve these currently are, which is entirely “now-oriented”, but I plan to keep playing for a long time. Eventually, I’ll get them.

But even if they changed the system, people would complain about something else. Even if they fixed everything on everyone’s list, people would still complain.

Convert Badges to Dungeon Tokens

SonOfJacob.7396

I’m actually split on this issue. I liked BOTH of the below quoted points because I can understand both sides. For totally selfish reasons, I really would appreciate it if they DID port the dungeon track system to WvW as they have in PvP and I think it would even out the playing field for hard core WvWers that hate PvE (just like the track does for hard core PvPers that hate PvE). But again, I totally get why this could be considered unfair:

I’d much rather see more uses for badges, and a WvW reward track just like they added the PvP reward track. Perhaps with some unique skins as well as the dungeon and region tracks.

No! I think equipment should stay specific to each game mode. I don’t think it’s fair for someone who does not run dungeons to have access to dungeon skins. WvW and PvP need their own skins acquired through those game modes. I want to look at a player and know that they worked their butt off for a skin unique to pvp, or wvw. Why not special world boss skins looted from the boss? Why not wvw reward tracks for hero weapons and new armor skins?

Why does everyone feel entitled to have things they don’t want to do content for?

What I don’t understand from some of the people posting here is the complete lack of openness to any sort of change – even something that would still be in their favor. Are you afraid of losing the goal to work for? Is that it?

Asking for something like this is based on an “I really want it and don’t want to wait for it” attitude. I respect your thoughts, but I disagree with your conclusions. Again, I have 14k, have played pretty much every day since launch with dailies and doing the living story and pursuing what I can to get APs, but this game isn’t my life.

I’m good with waiting 3 more years to achieve all the armor pieces for both sets. Mostly because then it will actually mean I worked for it – rather than Anet pandering to some “give-it-to-me-now” rabble on the forums that will just have moved on from the game in three years anyway.

I do this world boss daily with a success rate of around 60-75%. There are plenty of guilds that do public runs of this. You just need to join them in a TeamSpeak and taxi onto their map. It’s more involved than Tequatl, but that’s the point. You put in more effort to overcome a harder challenge. You must work with other players in an organized setting to beat Triple Trouble.

tl;dr: don’t change the boss, but maybe have it drop more than just two gold, a bunch of masterworks, and a chance at a mini and crappy ascended armor

Oh, I’m with you on HOW to do it – it’s just the WHY do it is questionable. I’m pretty sure more than half did it for the achievements and never went back.

Right now it’s impossible to get players to stay around on a non-main instance because they just give up and leave knowing it’s impossible to do thanks to the absolutely ridiculous scaling.

I 100% agree. I had to join TTS guild to do the achievements, then leave it – and doing the achievements is all it’s really worth doing – I’m still surprised so many people keep re-doing it. What a wacky and counter intuitive structure to a group event.

I wonder if the population of game play falls enough, will they change it then?

[Suggestion]Unlockable stats on ascended gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Throw a completed Ascended weapon with an inscription with different stats into the mf, and you unlock the ability to change to those stats. Seems like a fair compromise to me.

Expanding on this “idea” a bit, would it be so horrible for a set of MF recipes that allowed for ANY equipment to be converted to another stat set? I’m not talking about something cheap and easy, but a path of some sort.

I was thinking if you put, for example, an ascended Berserker GS and an ascended Sentinel GS in the Mystic Forge with like five Crystals and an Eldritch Scroll you could make a GS with the ability to swap between these two stat combos (when out of combat of course).

The current system is akin to a high school team playing a college team playing a pro team in many matchups. We can spot the high school team a ton of points but the game itself is still going to suck for them.

Fair point. I think this is the quandary the devs are in: how to achieve fairness across tiers while at the same time rewarding the servers that score the highest. There’s got to be a concept to resolve it before it can be programmed…so far, I haven’t read one that fully encompasses this.

[Balance in WvW] Who likes 1 vs Zerg?

At least that’s the concept. Rewards should follow effort. Hard should be worth a lot. Easy should’t be worth much at all. But you need to make sure that the smaller force can’t game the system by deliberately not challenging attackers to make their attacks easy (that’s what makes this hard to do right), so rather than look at individual encounters, population levels across all the WvW maps, as a measure of the potential challenge an opponent represents were the two sides to clash directly.

Makes total sense. Thanks!

Is there any way to get armor sets without having to buy or make them everytime a change is made? I hope that is not the way the game is and that I’ve just been doing things the wrong way…

1) Dungeon runs for tokens
2) Edge of the Mists for badges
3) READ THE WIKI

Because i wanna level them up through WvW but that would mean that i might not get ascended chests.

I’m REALLY hoping you mean leveling them in Edge of the Mists…not one of the actual WvW maps.

Players move around all the time, including to/from SoS.

It’s not just that. Players are leaving the game.

But apparently not the forums.

I’m surprised Anet doesn’t divide up the rewards based on weekly performance. Whoever takes first place that week of the three get’s a first place reward. At the end, the server with the most first places/most points gets additional rewards. The reward system COULD be set up so that lower tiered servers have just as much a chance as the lowered tiered ones. Not sure if this is the right direction.

My thought is: who do people play more as, a Warrior or a Necro? And, is there a reason for that?
