I think it’s funny that this entire thread is completely subjective and yet each person attempts to argue from a position of objectivity, and particularly on what Anet “should” charge for an expansion.

They are going to charge $49.99 for the next expansion, with higher prices for extra stuff. There won’t be a “$20 version”.

Why? Because that’s how much those things sell for – or do you not live in the real world?

As I recall, this is what it was:

—> 8pm EST during Daylight Savings (Spring/Summer/Fall)
—> 9pm EST during non-Daylight Savings (Winter)

If you change it back, it will solve one of two problems. (About 60% of the population loss)

The other problem is that you took away the old borderlands. (About 40% of the population loss)

I only say it’s a problem because of people complaining about the new ones.

1) Automatically send any looted mats to collections.

This is a QoL that should be done without your golem idea.

2) Automatically salvage looted gear with my choice of salvage kit. I would want him to be customizable in that I could adjust settings to salvage white gear with X salvage kits, blues with Y kits, or just salvage everything with a salvage-o-matic if I prefer.

The logic is clear, but the time required to program and test this would be far more than you think. Also, it would increase the number of support tickets they already have because people will invariably misuse it.

3) Automatically sell junk as soon as I interact with a merchant (has anyone EVER not sold junk immediately?)

This is a QoL that could be done without your golem idea.

4) Automatically sell green runes and sigils left over from all that auto-salvaging. This would have to be a toggle as I’m sure lots of people love to gamble them away in the MF.

I’d prefer they put a tick box users can check to “opt in” within the F11 panel to determine whether or not to consider the lowest level runes/sigils/crests as Junk. This would go quite well with your 3rd suggestion above.

5) Automatically buy harvesting tools (picks and axes) from merchants if my inventory of said tools falls below a specific number of stacks AND equip those tools when I run out.

The logic is clear, but the time required to program and test this would be far more than you think. Also, there isn’t any ROI for Anet. It takes virtually no time to maintain these tools.

6) Automatically use luck

I’d prefer they put a tick box users can check to “opt in” within the F11 panel to determine whether or not this function is active. I’m specifically thinking about individuals that are either already at 300% and/or those that are using luck for crafting.

TLDR: I don’t want a game that plays for me. However, you have some interesting QoL ideas, but they need refining.

Gabriel here. This is the only answer that matters:

I’ve spent quite a bit of real-world money on this game. I wouldn’t have done that if this had been something they had done from the start. If they added this as a “feature”, I would probably bring a lawsuit against them. This is not an exaggeration – you underestimate how much real-world money some people dump into this game.

3 words, Evolved Jungle Wurm! This event is long past needing a change. There’s 3 mastery points associated with this event alone, yet pretty much since it’s introduction people have shied away from the event and now, you scramble to even get enough people to run 1 head, that may not be the one you need. Unless you’re on a scheduled guild run, which many people don’t even know about and those that do still don’t even bother because let’s face it, it’s not really a success unless all heads die and even a scheduled run doesn’t guarantee full sucess.

I’m against this being nerfed. It’s the only map-wide event left that requires a little effort and coordination to complete.

Just curious: do you run this every day?

The only reason I ask, and I’m not being snarky here, is that perhaps you are arguing against nerfing content that you don’t even do, and now is a LOT more difficult for the vast majority of players.

I’m not SAYING it should or shouldn’t be nerfed. I’m specifically asking you to express why what you’re saying has any weight – specifically if you don’t do the content daily.

Just did it last night. No, I do not run it every day.

Cool – thanks for taking my question the right way.

Also curious – did your map complete the entire meta?

That follow up is specifically intended as to understand whether or not the OP’s point has any merit (at least, from my perspective).

I understand where you’re coming from. You don’t want to have your manly, Bearded, Norn (assumptions!) With a Unicorn (Rain)bow. You have plenty of skins to choose from to keep up with your manly image. You don’t need to have a Legendary.

Funny thing. I’m a dude that only plays male characters. My wife LOVED Rainbow Brite when she was a kid and of course those cartoons are on Youtube.

Well, when they came out with the rainbow unicorn finisher, I thought it was HILARIOUS! You can kill someone by jamming a RAINBOW UNICORN up their backside. I don’t see why people don’t think this is funnier (probably I’m just a bit unique).

Well, I made a male Norn druid and named him “Rain Bowbright” and his pet Twink (it’s a thing – I’m just doing this because I’m going with the theme). I’m working on the Dreamer and the Bifrost. Totally going to be a Rainbow Unicorn druid. LOL.

Ok, that was over-sharing. Apologies.

Two reasons why this won’t happen:

1) Liability. If you don’t know or understand the term, or how I’m applying it, then go Google it.

2) Money. They aren’t going to spend money (ie, time and effort) on something that people can acquire for free elsewhere that does EXACTLY what you are asking.

When the last time you felt thrilled in PvE?

SonOfJacob.7396

TLDR: I get excited by content, not drops. I’ve never gotten a precursor from a drop, and most people haven’t either.

I used to get thrills from the loot drop in PvE in other MMORPG…The one and only time I got a precursor…was about 2 years ago.

This is a bit bait-and-switch. I seriously don’t expect thrills from a video game EVER in drops. I expect that out of content.

When was the last time you actually felt thrilled playing PvE?

HoT. The gliding is seriously the best thing this game has added since launch. When they announced it was being added to core Tyria, I actually had DREAMS about it. Not kidding about that.

I got introduced to WvW and never looked back.

[/quote]

Totally understand that – I love WvW too. Anyone that doesn’t do WvW and thinks they’ve achieved some kind of “end game” is completely unaware of some of this game’s BEST content.

Sick of the Gem Store

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SonOfJacob.7396

SonOfJacob.7396

Well a better game means more people who will buy the game or stay with the game to buy expansions.

Well, problem with that idea is that it simply won’t do anything to increase new purchases of the game…So for someone looking to pick up GW2, announcing that gem store items are now in-game rewards would be completely meaningless to them, because they haven’t even gotten to the stage where it’s even a concern to them.

As for the effect on existing players, I don’t think it would be a positive one. On one hand you’ll have a bunch of players who did buy the outfits/wings/skins with money demanding refunds (which they probably won’t get), while on the other hand it’ll make a bunch of people who weren’t planning on giving ANet money for the goods happy. To put it crudely, cheesing off the customers who are more liberal with their credit cards to make the more frugal of us happy seems like a really bad way to make money.

This is EXACTLY why they shouldn’t and won’t do it.

If they suddenly change it, customers would be significantly less likely to spend money in the gem store.

That’s the opposite of what they want.

How financially stable is ArenaNet?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SonOfJacob.7396

SonOfJacob.7396

Hey, this is Gabriel. Since Anet isn’t stupid enough to answer your not-thought-through questions, I’ll have a go at it:

  • How does this game make money?

Sales

  • Is it primarily through the cash shop?

No

  • Is it through the initial sales?

Yes, if by initial sales you include:

A) Purchasing the original game any time before HoT
B) Additional sales OF HoT
C) Other sales of the whole game post-HoT

  • A bit of both?

Nope.

There are so many complaints everywhere on the forums and yet minimal progress is experienced.

Opinion, not a question. And it’s a very biased opinion because I just don’t agree.

  • How many people are employed at anet?

“Over the years, ArenaNet has grown to 250+ employees”
Source: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/ArenaNet

  • Why does it take so long for them to do things?

Loaded question based on a biased opinion.

THAT…and it’s software development…which I’m guessing you really don’t have any insight into just how complex that can be.

There are so many people unhappy with the game I’m just trying to understand why or how the game can tolerate such bad PR.

More people happy with this game than unhappy with this game. All the complainers go to the forums. Not so many people happy with the game come to the forums because it’s a cesspool of kittens complaining about stupid crap.

And whether it is even in the financial interests of the company to spend money fixing things.

Here’s the info you need to READ AND UNDERSTAND before you assume whatever PR you are referring to (I’m guessing just the forum’s kittens posting their daily rounds of hatemail).

http://global.ncsoft.com/global/ir/earnings.aspx#none

Based on the income Anet has and the fact that their business is based on the concept of “going concern”, yeah, they have a vested interest in fixing things.

But because they are highly profitable, they’re going to do it in the priority THEY see as most income-generating.

Legendary vs Ascended

Hi,

I find very disturbing that Ascended and Legendary weapons have same stats. When i make sword that costs over 3000 golds and takes a lot of my time to make and then i see sword thats worth around 50g and week of playing with exactly same result… I don’t have legendary myself but i think it’s quite unfair. Legendary should’nt have same value as Ascended beause its LEGENDARY.

Thanks.

This. But I still like my suggestion because it’s elegant and convenient…for both players and programmers. OP responded and made a good point that converting the trinket system to amulet-only would open slots for things like auras…and I’d also like to throw in a slot for the halo, and while we’re at it, how about using one of the defunct slots for tonic.

Better suggestion:

Combine ALL stats for trinkets into a single PvP-like amulet and make that the only slot for stats. Then make jewelers able to craft amulets only. Then leave a back slot open for back skins only.

All problems solved. They really should have done it this way from the beginning.

I could use a gold eater.

I have so much of that stuff because its so easy to come by and i have very little to spend it on.
It would be great to be able to feed it a couple of gold every day and get account bound mats and currencies in return.

I’ll be your gold eater SRS. In return, I would be your slave.

Players as gold eaters arent good for me because i can only send 500g per week, thats only ~25k gold per year i can get rid of that way. And everybody who offered me this, couldnt keep up their end of the bargain because when i told them to send me account bound mats and tokens in return, they didnt.

Slaves defeat their purpose of existance, if they can simply refuse to do what they are told.

Yeah, I won’t be your slave. But I WOULD spend your gold.

I’m totally fine if you send me only 500 gold per week.

To me legendaries are the g’dam-I-‘m-bored-let’s-sink-a-bajillion-mats-out-of the-game content, not the end game.

100% with Nike here. People that think that Legendaries are the end-game content in GW2 are the ones that are LEAST satisfied with the game. HOW many people have Twilight?

What is end-game in GW2? Honestly, it just totally depends on what you’re going for:

1) Skins
2) Achievements
3) Story
4) WvW
5) PvP

Personally, my goal is super long-term…and includes but is not limited to the full sets of armor/weapon skins for these two:

They put items in the game knowing the strain it will put on the economy, if they had planned a little differently, this could have been so much better.

Better for Anet or better for the player saying it could be better? John is balancing for YEARS of game play, not months. And he’s not balancing it for players so much as the requirements he has to get the in-game economy where he determines it needs to be.

Likewise, seeing the devisation they caused, they can now make little adjustments to even the balance… and that’s all I’m asking for.

To use a word like “devastation” regarding an economy in a video game explains why some have this expectation for something that is not realistic while balancing for years, not months.

So what IS the point of precursor crafting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SonOfJacob.7396

SonOfJacob.7396

TLDR of this thread (which is the TLDR of so many) is that some groups of people don’t like how the economics of supply and demand work and some people accept it for what it is. Understanding the economics of it is key.

The meta TLDR of this thread is that in order for an economy to actually exist in a manner consistent with how people actually OPERATE in any system (video games, the real world, stock markets, etc), supply and demand is the only process through which that system can maintain and balance itself to any reasonable level.

If you don’t understand the above two points, or simply don’t like the fact that the balance means very very few wealthy and many many poor, it’s impossible to explain it to you, unless you actually study economics. Even what I wrote above is actually insufficient to explain it, as many economists will tell you (and on some levels not even accurate, but I’m trying to communicate the gist, not the exactness). Supply and demand is just one way to operate an economy, but none of the alternatives sustain and balance themselves as reasonably as this one.

Many people appreciate you John, even if economics is drab, and we may only barely understand certain concepts. Now the haters of economics might vilify me by way of justifying their lack of either understanding, or lack of appreciation for what you are trying to accomplish. Much love to the Anet fam.

TLDR meta of my post is: it’s a game. Play it to get gold or play it for fun or don’t play it. In any case, you have choices. And as Neo observed, “The problem is choice.” Realistically, though, many of you just find it easier to try to argue a complaint and troll the forums instead of just moving along.

World Completion Trasnfer?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SonOfJacob.7396

SonOfJacob.7396

Just wondering if anyone else feels the same way.

Based on the responses, no.

Are there any plans to make World Completion transferable to other characters?

I can pretty much guarantee there aren’t any.

Something as simple as, if you have that account trophy, go to an NPC in LA, talk to them and pay a fee, 10g, 20g, whatever, and it instantly gives map completion for that character as well, without giving any of the items like Gift of Exploration.

At least you are accounting for the market.

All the current system does is force you to play a character you don’t particularity want to…or forces you to explore the whole world again.

This is a very correct observation and is by design. If your suggestion were made into reality, people would be able to play the game through with ONE character and open it up instantly for ALL characters. That translates to less time played, which EQUALS less income for Anet.

I like your thinking, but the net result is that it hurts Anet WAY more than the convenience is worth giving it’s customers in benefit. It’s like reducing the cost of weapon skins on the TP by increasing ticket drop rate…yeah, it makes it more enjoyable for many more players, but it means everyone would be walking around looking quite similar. Let’s face it, those Super Weapon skins and Fused Weapon skins are pretty much the best in the game, which is why they are astronomical in price.

The rant behind your rant is about Legendaries. So my short answer is “No – no one actually ‘likes’ the way drops work in this game”.

Legendaries are lame anyway – it’s FAR more strategic (and easier AND cheaper) to craft multiple Ascended greatswords/whatever for different purposes with different Sigils and do a quick swap than it is to change the stats from the drop down on the Legendary itself (and with the Legendary, you are locked into the same Sigils).

Anet keeps the economy the way it is because they make real world money through it.

Just curious, why do the Deathly Shoulders cost so much?

They dont look that cool compared to other shoulders on sell, but the cost is super high.

The supply/demand is technically correct. But it’s really because people are dumb and spend ridiculous amounts of gold on collections like the wardrobe for ugly skins.

I must admit, I love filling out the wardrobe – very addictive. I even have almost every mini – and I’m working on all the armor – but I’m not THAT desperate. To me, they’re actually WORTH like 2 gold. But that’s because they ARE ugly.

Transmutation Stone Rip-Off

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SonOfJacob.7396

SonOfJacob.7396

There seems to be some confusion.

- A skin you purchase from the BLTC does NOT get automatically added to your wardrobe if it’s just an individual skin (back item, head item, etc).

- A skin you purchase from the BLTC DOES get automatically added to your wardrobe if you buy a whole armor set (head to toes) AFTER you open the chest it comes in.

I noticed the fact that it didn’t give you a transmutation charge and you technically “lose” the charge that goes with the skin, but because I did, I put about 40 skins on an alt mule at the moment.

It would be REALLY nice of Anet to change the system to unlock the skin in the wardrobe and give you a transmutation charge. That way, skin hoarders like me could acquire the skins and not feel like they lose a charge if they just store the skin.

On the other hand, PvP is a quick way to acquire transmutation charges for free. So, it’s not that bad.

I dont see the correlation between a science fiction movie form the 80’s and a mmo in 2015. Other games already have this kind of stuff, so why does anet dont have them? Afterall this game is way to “click heavy”

Agreed. Hopefully this is coming. It really was a HUGE quality of life improvement for armor and weapons.

Actually, derailing the topic might be helpful. The moderators can lock it and I can reference it in my signature with the other helpful links.

All nice and well, but these kind of quality of life features should be standard in games anno 2015.

Look, when BTTF came out, we were promised flying cars by 2015. 30 years is a long time. Why haven’t they been able to come up with that?

1) Download this and install: http://www.autohotkey.com/
2) Paste this into a new script and save —> WheelUp::Click left
3) Mouse-over stack
4) Scroll up to consume stack(s)
5) Close application when done (important to gain back normal scrolling functions)

I’ve read here on the forums that people quote the devs saying something like “one mouse scroll wheel movement equals one click” or “one button/one action”. I’m sure they’re probably right. Hopefully they will sticky this post so others stop bringing it up.

This, by the way, is the same kind of problem they had with LFG before they had a tool for it in game. There was an external website people would use. Hopefully, this is on their list to address with the HoT expansion.

Good luck,
