Make the ladder one world wide ladder. The problem of coverage will sort itself out.

If you make one world-wide ladder, you are merging the datacenters. That forces people to contend with intercontinental latency.

I don’t know how else to make this any clearer.

The lag is not bad, at all.

So basically you propose giving everyone a latency disadvantage to make up for your lack of community effort to attract guilds that expand your coverage.

Your guilds on SBI don’t seem to have a problem with latency from EU/Asia. Do they? In order to match coverage, someone would have to take a latency hit.

If the region locks were removed. If all servers were on the same ladder system, then the top few servers would go from being about coverage, to being about skill because the best players would flock to the server they could get on, and once all regions are covered, skill takes over.

There is no region locking in GW2, I don’t think you understand the term correctly. Your proposed solution is exactly how it works today. Guilds that care deeply about WvW can transfer to any server NA or EU and compete there. Once all the regions are covered, skill takes over.

The difference between merging the servers and today’s system is that one forces everyone to play with suboptimal ping. The other allows those, who care about WvW enough, to stomach higher latency and participate as you suggest, while still allowing those who care more about latency to play on a regional datacenter.

This is why I say the GW2 is the best of both worlds. It can’t solve the problem entirely, but it offers the best options for players to choose.

It obviously doesn’t solve any problems. The separation of EU/NA servers makes only technical sense. Not from an actual pvp/competition sense. It encourages the most dedicated guilds to make sure they always have a coverage advantage, and then everyone else just gets to suck it up because of the regional differences.

if this isn’t fixed WvW will start to suck and fewer and fewer people who up. I don’t want to run around on empty maps.

Arenanet needs to merge ladders, and let players sort themselves out in one bracket, as opposed to the 2 different brackets that will be dominated by the one or two servers that get the coverage to stay on top, while trying to court other guilds over.

This system is messing with the natural flow of what could be a great system.

How is it that the Oceanic and/or PacRim folks are able to participate and enjoy the game without precious regional datacenter advantages?

I’m not saying there are no challenges… only that there is an elephant in the room.

Exactly. This is why Habib’s point makes technical sense, but then really doesn’t. I don’t recall ever hearing an Aussie cry “oh it was lag”.

Say they instituded the lock right now. Draconian locks that solved people moving.

Guess what? Coverage > all.

NA guilds in EU upset the balance there.

Vice Versa.

Because of the distcintion and separate ladders, people aren’t moving en masse, and the server with the most coverage wins.

This is going to cause burn out and apathy. Players just won’t play any more since (generally, I will still run around an empty map hoping for pvp) all their work will be for naught since coverage > skill.

The regions wall needs to be torn down. Players understand the latency, but the state of WvW will continue to suffer until the regions are removed, and more EU/NA guilds are joining each other servers.

By no incentives you mean not enough pve reward incentives? I won’t disagree with that, although a-net did recently increase loot drops it seems. Making a lot more money.

The main incentive should be fun however. In wvw, fun while taking part in big fights.

Except with no one showing up because they’re farming in pve, big fights will start happening less and less.

They are aware and the post from Habib admits there’s no change at all in the works. So what are you referring to in your post.

The developers are wrong in this aspect. The health of the game demands that they remove the distinction, throw everyone into one ladder, and then let the coverage sort itself out.

Guilds will move and sort themselves appropriately, otherwise the game is going to suffer wvw burnout, and lose pvp credibility (something no mmo to date has survived (Rift, SWTOR, Warhammer, Conan)

Full servers, yet you have the outmanned buff in wvw. Why? Because there’s no incentive to stay in WvW. None. All the best stuff comes from farming level 80 content, not scaled WvW content.

Even when farmnig near towers with boosts on them (which aren’t nearly large enough to get you to where you can actually benefit from them near farming areas, why doesn’t Quentin Lake buffs extend into hylek?) the drops/rewards are insignifant compared to what people can get in pve, so players go grind in pve, instead of grinding in WvW waiting for battles to form.

My Fix:

When you own the merc camps, make escorting the merc camps an event. If the mercs make it to the supply camp then you get a reward (equivalent to the pve rewards)

This goes for Dredge/Hylek/Ogres as well as Quaggan.

Make the drops better! Higher chances of rare drops, rare materials from wvw. It takes a long more to kill a player than it does to kill a mob. Farming is superior in level 80 zones, it should be superior where the challenge is greater.

Keep the code in where if someone kills a player they get a level appropriate drop, but if a level 80 kills a level 80 then the chance of a lucrative drop should be seriously increased, it’s inadequate at the moment.

Give the incentives for people to go get into WvW. The hard core population needs all the rest of the server to get into WvW and stay in there. A larger portion is just giving up because the gain just isn’t what it should be.

Facing EU guilds and fighting with EU players (thanks for the correction on the datacenters) it’s hard to believe that latency is a factor. Sure in sPvP it’s a huge factor (and only at the top tier of players), but in WvW it’s not nearly the factor that you might think it is.

The ladders need to be merged. The designations can stay, but the “global 24/7” wvw needs to sort itself out. Coverage is key, and players are going to do this themselves. Already upsets are forming when mass guilds transfer from one region ot the other.

Let’s stop with all and make 24/7 WvW a reality. This will only strengthen the game in the long run.

Right now WvW is determind by coverage, because the different time regions are not being equally represented because of the separation of servers.

Merge the servers, the coverage will happen, and WvW can become a 24/7 game of skill. Not coverage.

Exactly. The Karma Prices would need to be about 500k per in order to match the effort involved in getting the badges per piece of wvw gear. Hell even make a set of gear cost karma, the 42k karm afor temple gear could be applied to wvw gear.

Why does everyone want everything to be easy? Work hard for it and you might actually enjoy the fact that when you have it you feel like you achieved something.

I have farmed atleast 1000 badges in a month of WvW. I’m still farming and don’t mind it at all, I don’t even want the set though…

Working hard? You can get better gear faster. There’s no working for that. And the models suck, so no one is buying it for “prestige”.

I have brought this up before and I’m bringing it up again.

The EU/US distinction needs to be removed. Since the data centers are the same, the separation at the moment only leads to more imbalance then their needs to be. Remove the name, and then guilds will more freely distribute themselves out to the servers for WvW and allow for more servers to have balanced coverage.

Separating the lists was a bad decision, and it’s time it was corrected. If you want a 24/7 global game, then you need to set your game up as a global game.

Also now with the server balance issues mostly solved, it won’t be that big a deal. if people are farming dolyaks enemy zergs can quickly take them out, but it’s a great deal better than having people being absolutely useless doing a raid in wvw.

So we have trains of bots “escorting” them again? No thanks.

And what’s wrong with Grub? It takes 10 minutes to kill. Is that really gonna ruin your entire day of wvwvw?

Besides that it’s fun training it onto people attacking your towers.

When people are willing to lose fully upgraded towers and supply camps, or people have it on farm to where they take up map space to wait for it to spawn, yeah it’s pretty much a waste of space.

At least people were doing something kinda for the server. Havnig the Grub in WvW is an absoltue waste of space in every way shape or form, and does nothing but hurt the server.

Bring back dolyka farming, or get rid of the grub. There does not need to be a raid boss in WvW.

When are the badge gear prices being brought down. Virtually every other form of exotic gear is far easier to get / farm than badge gear, and the badge gear really isn’t that great.

You mean flame sword and tornado are great against horrible opponents?

Try those against anyone decent and you’ll be dead shortly. They’re both worthless.

Elemental is “okay” but doesn’t really seem like an elite skill in pvp. For pve its fine. I’d rather have another utility skill than the elites we have for pvp.

For WvW. That’s all I do. I don’t do spvp or pve. But for WvW An ele passing out their FGS before a portal bomb = so much damage and destruction it’s amazing.

The Flame Sword is absolutely amazing in WvW. As well as the tornado… oh wait so is the Elementals.

You people are all forgetting the Chaos Storm. It alreayd can be placed on walls. We already have a staff aoe skill. Sure the Chaos Storm could be larger in area, but the greatsword phantasm is NOT the answer.

You already have the ability to hit the top of walls. Still no valid reason GS should avoid LOS.

About the LoS issue they can ‘fix’ that when they stop ground targeted AoEs from being able to hit the top of walls and AoEs in general being able to pass through the keep doors, or they change GS’s ground targeted attack into a good ground targeted attack.

No. They need to give all phantasms the ability to ignore LOS or remove it from the GS phantasm.

It boggles my mind this has not been addressed or explained. Why is the coding for the GS Phantasm SO different than the others. Was it an oversight? Or intended?

Why should they remove it from Berserker just because the other Phantasms don’t have it? How does Berserker having it but the other not hurt anything?

Berserker has it because we don’t have a powerful AoE to throw up on walls like every other class. The others don’t because it would be OP if we could create a stream of illusions to run around the walls shattering and phantasming everything. Though personally I think Warden should be able to ignore LoS too.

You think it’s fine, because you probably run around full time with your Greatsword out. What about people that don’t use GS. Why should we have to also carry one with us incase we need to abuse this mechanic.

What other ability ignores LOS like that?

Yeah. I think I’m going to finish leveling my Necromancer. My Mesmer is a WvW Tank (Confusion Bomb) Build. The survivability with spike damage is delicious. I guess I want something that’s super tanky and desctructive in a wvw situation.

I’ll level my necro and guardian and see what I can do with them.

If it weren’t for the fact the berserker ignores LOS I would never equip it. Staff/Scepter/Focus all the way.

The only time I equip the Greatsword is to abuse the fact it’s phantasm ignore’s line of sight. If they nerfed that, I’d never equip a greatsword again.

What is the intent of the Grub? The Champion Mobs? Why put these farmable Champions into WvW? This is encouraging people looking for drops to take up queue spots, so they can go farm the Champion for whatever reason people farm these things.

Please remove champions from EB. Remove them from all maps. They are nothing but a nuisance to WvW play.

That’s my gear/spec.

Amazing in 1vX as well as 1v1. It’s not so much a “condition” build as it is a confusion build. Setting up the “confusion bomb” on someone, then turning all the rest of their damage against them.

The staff is incredibly tanky, and using the #2 to escape as well as getting all that extra regen/protection stacking from #4 is just awesome.

In group fights 6+7 +F2 = 6 stacks aoe confusion. Does great to weaken enemies.

Can solo Supply camps relatively quickly as well, being able to handle the scouts so effectively (wardens can basically solo a scout)

His attack speed was lowered. Was he really wrecking face? The Berserker does infinitely more damage, and seems to last longer.

What was I missing? It hardly seems worth having the warlock out most of the time. More so even now.

Perma Stealth Thieves are thieves who never exit stealth (ie: never attacks), therefore, aside from stealth revives, are useless.

Semi-Perma Stealth Thieves are the ones who only stealth with Cloak and Dagger when their stealth wears off (so they’re revealed for about 0.5 seconds every 4 seconds). If a single weak attack every 4 seconds is giving you a problem then you should really look at what you’re doing wrong because they’re also being useless (Nobody’s going to die to a CnD every 4 seconds)

It doesn’t feel like my Focus wall is pulling them any where. Does any stealth come with some sort of stability? Lots of times on ledges I’ve seen thief to stealth on a ledge, I focus pull them, and they are still on the ledge…

I’m seeing more and more of these thieves are able to basically stay perma stealthed while taking out siege, stopping supply camps, killing players. visible long enough to do a little damage then back to stealth.

What is the counter? I’m sure you thieves that do this have been countered. Instead of keeping that a secret causing a nerf, broadcast your counter so then people can say “you’re bad learn to counter” instead of “nerf thieves”.

how about make claiming cost a certain amount of guild influence to dissuade people who just want their emblem to be seen?

you cant make it so expensive that small guilds cant claim tho. i too am a member of a small guild, but we have art of war lvl 4 and want to claim to give buffs

That is a wonderful idea. Costing influence would certainly be awesome.

claiming just puts your emblem on the flag. any guild can upgrade if they really wanted to support their server.

It does more than just puts emblem on flag, it allows your guild and your guild only to activate 1 or more 12hr buff that your guild spent influence on unlocking. Which can and does many times help decide the fate of that tower. I have seen people log into WvW and run tower to tower that we own trying to find one that is not claimed just to claim it and leave WvW without helping take or defend anything not building siege or nothing they just want their guild emblem seen. It needs to be changed how I dont know but one way would be to allow only guilds with buff to activate claim towers or keeps. I know I am in a small guild we always have the buffs to activate. We may not be able to upgrade the tower or keep to 100% every time but more times than not we do or at least get t3 walls and t3 weapons and every time drop at least 6 arrow carts 2 catas 3 balistas and depending where a treb. <we do this to every tower not just the ones we claim.> The ones we claim you can tell because team mates start calling them fort knox. Usually because we have enough siege every one on our server can man something with a few extra pieces.

Pretty much this. Guilds claiming, then doing nothing for a tower, is ridiculous. That was the point of claiming a tower. Now, there is no point unless you have the buff.

Random guilds tagging and leaving does nothing. Let the guilds who stay and build, and defend a tower, get to claim it. Not random guild running by…

Please give us some advanced warning before patches.

Advance notice is a horrible idea for wvw.

If they give advance notice, then players can amass golem armies, and then the moment servers come up zerg all the things.

The people that take the objective, are already rewarded in item drops, experience, cash, and karma.

Then often leave on to the next objective.

There needs to be more incentive to stay, and defend (beyond points) and those that claim are for the most part not doing that. They just claim and leave.

I am tired of guilds claiming towers/keeps/supply, and not defending/upgrading.

In my opinion. Whoever upgrades an objective the most, should have claim rights to it. Whoever spends the most gold should get the option to claim it if they choose.

Also the Claim option should not even be available until after an upgrade is purchased. And then make the claim option available from the Quartermaster.

Updated to the beta 12.9 catalyst drivers, and now the fps are 8-14 . Still not playable, but an improvement. Anyone else actually playing beyond “Yeah your’e technically playing but not really”?
