@Raf, I never said I couldn’t make an engineer work – the issue is why should I even have to do that due to the “devs” ineptitudes? It should automatically work as shown in the nice little propaganda movies we were shown before we bought the game. But I’m from an older generation of gamer where I ACTUALLY EXPECT to get my money’s worth and not have to “make” a toon work with bubble gum and string….

No, what you are is an entitled gamer that believes that because of whatever justification you’ve decided in your head, you should be able to play any class regardless of skill.

Engineer is a high skill profession. It has a much higher skill curve than any other class ( except perhaps ele) and because of that you see people on these boards who can’t do certain things as easy as other classes complain.

Engineer is a very competitive, capable profession, regardless of what you believe. It plays exactly as advertised.

The problem with most people that play the engineer class, is that they believe you can solve all situations using the same 3 utilities.

This is the most handicapped way to play the profession. You must be willing to change utilities often to get the most out of the profession. Not just get bogged down into one way of thinking.

when I get 80 i’m theorizing a build based off conditions. Using the Awesome power of the Tool Kit with the #3 and #2 (similar to the way I play my bleed thief) coupled with all the on crit bleed/burn abilities.

Use the Tool kit to counter burst, or shield #4 to bounce them off you.

No nerfs!

There are aalot of bad players who believe that if they don’t win with it, is worthless. Keep at it. Flamethrower has its place.

There’s more to it than that. In the game’s current state, Engineers are practically shoehorned into playing Grenades. It’s far and beyond the absolute highest damage, and it also grants everybody in your party a lot of extra damage. There’s nothing that can top that in the least.

And you are under the mistaken notion that all there is to this game is who does the most damage. There is a lot more to pvp, than who hits the hardest.

I wasn’t impressed with Tankcat either. It’s a basic bunker build with lots of invuln. It really doesn’t have much else going for it besides the fact that…its a bunker build. You can keep a couple idiots on your tail while they blow cooldowns on you. Too bad at any moment they can decide to not be stupid and walk away from you, since you really aren’t worth chasing. I mean, the build has one good big damage ability: The prybar.

I’m still working with it, but changing the Elixir S with Elixir U has already increased my killing power, and I’m just theorizing with swaps.

Also gear changes would up the killing power. The problem comes from people thinking statically. The “one build to rule them all” mindset has got to go. You have to be willing to swap gear sets and/or swap utilities to get differernt jobs done.

Any engineer that doesn’t swap out utilities situationaly, is doing it wrong.

The irony of the OP is that with all his “World Experience” and feigned experience / imagination, he hasn’t been able to make it work.

The fact is there are plenty of people who are amazing at engineer. It’s not the class. It’s you that doesn’t get it.

Pick a different class. And never bring your “military experience” into a gaming forum. It’s meaningless.

Well, I wish Engineer had decent DPS outside of grenades. I don’t really enjoy doing all those double actions for one move all the time (and then my target/s move/s and I miss)

They do have good dps outside of grenades. Grenade spam was just more damage than the alternatives.

Exactly this. Engineers are on par with other classes with other specs. With grenades they were superior to many other specs.

I’ve said this since before beta, GW2 is a gear based game. Everyone that ever said otherwise is delusional. Gear in most cases can overcome skill.

Or is it something that is done when everything else is take care of? There are several fundamental design flaws in WvW that have me wondering if WvW in Gw2 is just another pvp feature from a game company that puts just enough in it to say they have it, and that’s it.

The fact that it is an individual cost/commitment for a server-wide benefit… that what makes it unfair.

The entire server PvE/sPvP/WvW should be contributing to a pool of upgrade resources that can then be drawn upon for upgrades. This pool should have both a spring fed source as well as both a participatory source based upon event completion and contributory source based upon sacrifice or donation.

The server pool should be visible for everyone and there should be no individual shame or personal consequence for spending the resources in WvW where they are purposeful and meaningful.

This is not rocket surgery.

Yeah. There is not a lot of merit to this. It’s always the same people contributing for what reward? Why is this an individual effort?

Its a Gold dump firstly.
Secondly Gold from WvW is efficient to cover your expenses.
Thirdly, If they remove the cost, everyone will just press anything to upgrade
For example, Putting Oil to build on a newly taken tower/castle and not the walls.

There are enough gold dumps in this game. Why are the WvW’ers the only one hit with this gold dump? Why don’t the pve’ers have an equivalent gold dump? And people do that any ways. Eventually people will learn what the proper sequence is.

if someone wants to troll, gold price isn’t going to stop them. This is also about the overall health of WvW. Something needs to be done WvW is dieing.

Because of the poor design decision to separate the EU and NA brackets, Coverage is the dominant factor in every single match.

If your server has more coverage during your opponents downtime you win. Plain and simple.

People are starting to care less about winning, and just want to go out, roam around, and randomly kill people.

Objectives are losing all of their meaning. What’s the point? You spend all that gold to upgrade something that is going to get taken when you’re not there.

Leave the supply cost, but remove the gold cost. Allow the objectives to just get built if they get enough supply. There is already the gold sink for repair bills, and siege equipment, there does not need to be any other gold sinks in WvW.

WvW participation is struggling. Across most servers. I would love to see the statistics of all of the Full Servers, with their corresponding WvW populations. Something needs to be done. If you (Arenanet) want WvW to be more accessible, then you need to make it more accessible by removing the costs associated with upgrading.

Izzy once said that he would not put diminishing returns into Gw2 because it’s a crutch for bad game design.

So are gear treadmills in dungeons.

If you developed the dungeons properly and made them entertaining, people would go through them for the new skins.

Increasing stats on gear and then putting them in dungeons is bad game design. Just because WoW installed gear progression doesn’t mean Anet needs to.

I think the ability to rez is fine. Especially given this is WvW, rather than PvP. It balances against the temptation to have more waypoints and is a better mechanic.

Also,Think about it. If you want WvW to die out quickly just make it less “forgiving” and more punishing. Remove rez and make players have to run across the map. It might feel good to “punish” those players who are not as good as you are, but you need those “casual” and “not as skilled” players. Otherwise forget about any attention to battlegrounds in future releases.

It is the very “casual friendly” nature that is killing WvW. Pvp is not casual friendly. No matter how much the developers attempt to dress it up. It’s not. It never will be. Some players can only fight against scripted encounters and this is why pve exists.

There is nothing casual about WvW other than, anyone can join it. The repair costs are not casual. The siege costs are not casual. The gear you get from it is not casual. The upgrade costs, not casual.

Ok a lot of you in this thread are not understanding my OP.

Downed: Is the active state you can still fight back. Where you have access to your abilities and can still stay in the fight possibly rallying back to fight. THIS state I have no problem with and welcome this part of the game.

Defeated: Is when a downed player is… defeated. Where you no longer have access to your abilities/rally and must wait to be rezzed, or waypoint out. THIS IS what I have problems with. Bad play should be punished.

Ernt. See, you had time warp on your bar and didn’t use it for that first stomp. Your stomp was halfway complete, that means you could have done it different and got the stomp completed. I think with the NPCs involved you were giving them chances to rez off the NPCs dying. Maybe you should AOE less lol

Do I think one person should be able to beat 5 normally? No.

The downed state is fine. It gives us a rollercoaster that is needed in games.

Downed is fine, it’s the defeated state I have a problem with. You should not be able to rez someone from defeated if you’re in combat.

This has been discussed ad nauseum with the developers but it’s time to revisit this.

Rezzing defeated players in the middle of combat, is detrimental to skillful play. I recently recorded a video of me 1v5:

Where I kept downing people, and they could keep rezzing the defeated person. The advantage goes to the zerg. Not because of skill, but because of numbers. While I know the developers are afraid of changing the defeated state because of it’s pve implications, shouldn’t defeat… matter? If people are defeated make them run back. Make it a real consequence.

What would make you WvW more? How can Anet make WvW more desirable? It’s supposed to be casual friendly, and it appears that WvW participation is dropping with each week.

Asked this in the WvW forums, but it was pointed out that’s not the best place for this question.

Honestly though, why do you not WvW? This game is going to lose it’s wvw population to Planetside2 or some other persistent pvp game, and I want to perhaps shed some light on this problem.

For Scepter:
Make it not spawn clones, please. In PvE dungeons, I want to have an auto attack poke that will synergize with 3 Phantasms for long-drawn out boss fights. Currently, I’m forced to run Sword/X and Staff so that I can actually get a decent Autoattack in between cooldowns. I wouldn’t mind Scepter poke, but I hate having to stop every 2 attacks to not spawn a clone.

Why not swap if that`s your concern

Sword main hand, focus, gs, staff, torch all viable.
Scepter and sword off hand… not so.

actually if focus wasn’t so useful in wvw, my second choice with scepter is sword because of the double block.

Maybe you forgot, but when you summon a clone, every enemy automatically deselects you. The auto attack would effectively spam “do not target me”. That’s troubling.

That’s only for phantasm, and even then only at the start of a fight.

Yeah, it’s like sword. No one runs around full time using sword. People that use sword generally swap to Greatsword for most of their play, and then switch to Sword for burst. Well the same thing happens here.

Staff for most of your damage, except when it comes down to burst, and you burst them with your scepter.

Putting more clones on Sceptre 1 is redundant to extreme proportions. You’d be generating more clones than you would know what to do with.

There are several mesmer abilities that operate on death, like random condition, confusion, and snare.

Currently the #1 scepter on mesmer, is under whelming. Even with the faster speed. Why not have it summon a clone on every hit?

Currently the autoattack is aweful. You’d have to spec into it to do damage, and well you mostly want this for the cond stacking. If it summoned an illusion every single time this could be awesome for shatter builds, as well as for ‘on illusion death’ builds. Would really shine as weapon. Currently my feeling is that the #1 is mostly worthless. The illusions aren’t built fast enough for it to be useful.

Merge the EU/US Servers

People seem to be missing something. Yes, right now servers with coverage have an advantage. However, it would be the EXACT same should the servers be merged into one ladder. EU servers win during their primetime, NA wins during theirs. Then, if one server has more coverage than the other, they win. It’s as simple as that, it wouldn’t change anything other than the fact that now NA vs EU is an option. Coverage still wins out.

Except in merged servers US/EU would spread out more for coverage. So the tiers would take care of themselves with coverage spreading out. Russians/SEA could still stick to their servers but does the technology not exist for the US/EU data centers to talk to each other?

Ok so the way shatter/clones work, is if you Shatter, you can immediately summon more clones while the other clones are running in. So I MOSTLY use Frustration, however, when I have a full clone set from Staff, I will use Mind Wrack first, then swap, use decoy/mirror images and then Cry of Frustration and Scepter 3 in order to get a 13 stack of confusion on someone (and 6 aoe confusion) for the “bomb”.

I use Invuln/Daze situationally. Like you’ll see I dazed them once to (attempt to) stop a rez, and invuln, well I don’t think I used it that fight, but again I’ll use it to get me to my heal when necessary.

Carrion is Power/Vit/Cond
The temple gear is a mix of different sets but the stats are cond/prec/tough

I use Superior Sigil of Corruption, and Super Sigil of Battle.
on my Staff I use Superior Sigil of Flame.

Scepter is amazing, the stacking confusion is amazing, dropping 13 stacks of confusion on a berserker geared level 80 is amazing to watch as they melt their own faces off.

And no. Torch is only technically feasible, but I would never give up a staff or gs (I prefer staff) for anything torch, and my swap is scepter/focus and focus in wvw is almost definetly superior in every way to torch.

While The Prestige is nice and gimmicky, the phantasm is meh at best. Warden by far superior.

Scepter is great for stacking confusion fast on someone who has no clue what they’re doing, but vs anyone competent, confusing images just won’t do a kitten thing, and as I covered in my previous post, the clone generation utility of scepter is nearly useless when specced into a clone factory/shatter trait build.

You’re good on the torch though, its several times worse than every other offhand in the game.

Well with over 800+ hours played most all of them on mesmer, most all of them in wvw (and this is only on live). I kindly disagree with your analysis. Perhaps at top level spvp confusion doesn’t work, but in wvw it’s amazing.

So thats fine for NA players and probably the same for western EU players. But what about Asian/Oceanic/Russian/etc players?

They deal with it the same they’ve been dealing with it all this time? You think EU servers don’t have coverage during their primetimes from people in those regions?

So, is the scepter viable to you now?

Absolutely viable as a confusion stacker. I wouldn’t try to kill someone full to dead with just scepter, I do swap to staff quite a bit, but when setting up for a confusion shatter bomb… Scepter is by far the best way to go.
