Yeah can anyone get this to work where they can play it? I am on Ubuntu 12.04, using the latest ATI graphics catalyst, and I get 5-10 fps. Unplayable.

Please don’t touch this. It is absolutely not your problem to fix if this is happening. This is to be fixed by matchmaking, and proper wvw strategy.

It is NOT difficult to leave spawn and make a push into a map. Eventually matches will be even.

Please do not touch this aspect of the game.

It is a huge design flaw and they should absolutely correct it ASAP.

Right now defending your gains becomes easier the more of the map you control. You can better concentrate your forces, the enemy gets less and less realistic targets to attack, and your supply and logistic lines actually IMPROVE and become EASIER TO MANAGE the bigger your empire is rather than the other way around.

This makes no sense whatsoever in “realistic” terms and makes for a crappy experience in game terms and as such should be drastically changed.

This is only happening in matches where one of the servers just isn’t matched properly and one of the sides has given up.

This won’t be a problem down the road. Dumbing down the game is dumb and should not be touched at this point. No good will come of this.

We are also looking at ways to better support players that are getting shut down on maps. Again this is something very new, so we are not able to say anything on how this will work. However, the goal is to make players able to leave the spawn areas with ease, as well as provide assistance on capturing objectives when you are being completely shut down on a map.

These are just a few things that we are actively pursuing. We are constantly reviewing the state of WvW. If you see a lack of developer presence on the forums, it is simply due to us working on making WvW an even better experience then it is now.

Sorry but as long as numbers win 100% of the time, skill means jack. The simple mechanic of downed state makes skill pointless. I can outplay people, and kill them but be unable to stomp them because I am playing extend. Their buddies can just throw bodies at us and then rez up the bad we just killed. IF they remove downed state from WvW THEN you will see skill winning and maybe just maybe make this game less boring. Also, having nothing to strive for will eventually kill the game. Period.

Think of it this way, would you work if you didnt get paid? I’m sure the job you do needs to be done anyway, and maybe its even fun. Still, would you go in day after day with no pay check? Same deal. The carrot on a stick design works for a reason.

The carrot on my stick is personal skill growth. Does my enemy outnumber me? Great, there’s personal progression. I like the challenge of figuring out how to beat them. Using the downed state? Great, another challenge to figure out how to beat them. Personal progression when I meet and pass any advantage my enemy figures out.

I don’t play for participation trophies. I play to crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and hear the lamentations of the noobs.

Last night in a discussion on the JQ community teamspeak I was explaining to a group why total domination isn’t a good thing.

I hear a lot of people complain about lack of progression in wvw or “end game” pvp and I completely believe they are 100% wrong. Progression in pvp is not all about points, or new shinies. It’s about recognition, and skill.

I have loved multiplayer games since playing Tanks and Pong on the Atari. The first time I ever beat a human being in a video game, playing against the computer (or pve) was never as fun because generally once you beat the computer, you know how to beat the computer every time thereafter.

Players on the other hand evolve and adapt. My progression comes from being beaten, learning and getting better. My progression comes from becoming a better leader, a better pvp’er, on both the macro and micro levels. In order to do this you need people to fight against, people who are better than you. Always looking for the next challenge.

The next time you see someone complaining about no progression in wvw, remind them that you’re never done as a true pvp’er. Either solo, group, or mass group. At an objective, a map, or an entire match there is always room to grow as a pvp’er. No one is the best at anything, and if you think you are just wait, someone will find a way to beat you on multiple levels.

There are several issues with wvw that will take time to fix, but server transfers and disabling the orbs are something that take barely longer than re-upping the servers.

Free transfers will close when guesting is implemented. No source, but it’s clearly what they’re waiting on.

But how are transfers going to work, and what about commander icons?

What is going on?

*What is the current plans to do something to fix transfers in WvW?
*Are transfers going to still cost gems?
*What is the cost going to be to transfer?
*Why are commander books not account bound? Are there any plans to make them account bound or is the intent of Anet to have them purchased separately for each character?
*Are the orb/outmanned buffs going to be changed in any way?

Keep siege weapons have lost all their bite. They used to be so much better and now they are basically worthless. The mortar are nice, but the canon/oil are feared by no one.

Removing free transfers will make wvw worse at the top.

am i missing something? i thought they said the free transfers are only for the first few months of the game so people can get situated. I remember reading server tranfers would cost $ and you would not get the WvW rewards until the next round so people wouldnt server hop

Once a number one server is established, people will know which has the best chance of staying number one and they will move to that server.

Now imagine players individually know that the major guilds on those servers won’t be able to change servers easily.

800gems (testing cost) to swap servers = ~3g
industry standard of $25 = 2100gems = ~9g

For 9g people will be able to transfer to the dominant server. This is unacceptable and why the cost needs to be for money only, not for gold.

Removing free transfers will make wvw worse at the top.

Except players will know that the guilds that are making a server number one won’t be able to move servers easily, and so they can invest a few gold, get the gems, and transfer to a winning server. This will be about individual player migration, not guild migration.

If they don’t remove the ability to spend gold on transfers, this will seriously hurt individual player migration and dilute the top tier servers.

Removing free transfers will make wvw worse at the top.

Right now people can move freely between servers. This is causing massive server rebalances, and band wagon jumping. Entire guilds are transferring forming new alliances on new servers working to get new coverage.

And then they are going to eventually lock down the servers…

Guess what happens then?

Entire Guilds/Alliances will call servers home. Then individual player migration will continue. It will only be a few gold for the individual to transfer. Larger massive guilds will not be able to transfer off, however individuals will be able to transfer to whoever is winning.

And they will. And the big guilds won’t be able to move their people off and rebalance anything. So that top server will become dominant, and stay dominant and players won’t be able to fix themselves as easily.

IMO:
Transfers should be cash only. No gem stores, a purchasable transfer ticket that can only be bought with real money. No gold involved.

as stated before most of the guilds in TA are staying on HoD I honestly dont know what you guys are flaming on about.

9/16 are moving to Blackgate according to some posts on Guru. The alliance is being disbanded.

What gets me is how was this alliance being ran that so many of you are being caught off guard by this?

You didn’t have any kind of council, or did most of you just do what you were told? Doesn’t seem like this was even discussed with anyone.

It’s claiming the 30-0 record as being reflective of a fair, balanced system. That’s what is getting people. Especially with balance still in flux. That 30-0 record needs an asterisk next to it. Like how many of those were just 24 hour matches, and none of them were two week matches.

How many of those were with 5min tallies, how many were the result of abusing arrow carts in stonemist, or abusing the late night patch resets during 24 hour matches.

The week long matches, I can concede were deserved. During NA primtime HoD was competitive, and fell when 2v1’ed. However the wins all came from the EU guild / players who were able to take back everything post-oceanic primetime. They came before anyone could match the 24 hour coverage, and truly be a real competition for HoD.

Claiming victory before balance is achieved, that’s what’s getting TA beat up. Like the guys that abuse raids or leveling for world firsts… just aint right.

The only important question at the moment is what’s happening with that “one EU TA guild”?

I called Condemned quitting early well before the game launched, but I’m surprised TA could not survive without Condemned.

While I think the redistribution of the Guilds is a great thing the declarations of being undefeated is laughable. They often chastise other servers for quitting early in a week, but then they themselves quit before the game actually balances out, majority of players get to 80 and get comfortble with their gear/classes. Alliances get to form and catch up.

You know what was going to change in two week match ups? The 2nd weekend. Something to fight through the week for.

And saying you only had “one” euro guild. That’s enough. I mean honestly one group of players running around in the wee hours of the morning is enough to cap everything and upgrade everything.

Sure NA Primetime HoD was competitive, but were beaten. I often remember on Red Borderlands vs HoD they often only owned just one keep during 24 hour match ups, and often won because of mechanics/reset abuse of stonemist. (which actually caused stonemist to be corrected)

Just as other servers are catching up to actually be competition for HoD, the major alliance folds.

Not surprised at all with Condemned being involved.

WvW Jumping Puzzles need to be instanced

The fact that they take up WvW slots for one this is horrible. Outside of that, it’s some of my favorite pvp.

If the jumping puzzles were instanced, then players could queue up and complete them separately from wvw, and these could be used for overflow players waiting to get into WvW who still want to pvp.

Breaking TA will do nothing. Their NA Guilds are being carried by the EU Guilds. This has been proven over and over again.

Pretty much any other claim made by anyone from HoD about it being skill or structure is laughable at best.

The only skill involved was email, and maybe some salesmanship. The EU guys that decided to bite the bullet and roll on NA servers.

It has been shown that HoD can be beat around the clock, except for NA daytime.

The only reasonable request for Arenanet, is to truly make this a global game, and stop separating the EU and NA Regions.

I 100% agree, and have brought this up since testing.

Commanders are the players, not the profession, I am now locked to 1 profession whenever I want to lead my server or guild and be effective in WvW.

I recommend making them free after the first one, and account bound.

If not, please at least give justification for keeping it single character only. You could even add a “Commander Soulstitch Fang” title for all alts so people know who the original book was bought for to prevent trolling with alts.

The moderator got my hopes up for an official response to this. An official answer is needed for this. Why are Commander Icons not account bound? You buy the book, it flips the switch for your account to always have the option.

Siege Weapons need major buff

The counter to siege, should be siege. Currently there is little to no fear of siege. Players can run up to most siege and take it out because siege does not do enough damage. Especially all the glass canon builds that do more damage faster than a piece of siege.

I propose a serious increase in damage or dps on all siege. Make players fear canons. Fear ballista.

If an enemy becomes entrenched in a position, then it should take siege to get them out. Plain. Simple.

Make players respect/fear siege.

Yeah it is a PvP map but building sieges at the jumping puzzle area? I think it’s kinda wrong to do that. But what do I know?

Why is it wrong? Please explain to me. Is this somehow preventing you from finishing the puzzle? Can’t you set up your own siege equipment to take them out?

It’s pvp. Think of it as another objective to take. Use arrow carts. Use ballista. Think.

I saw this a lot on message boards and always thought to myself…just you wait. How many people got to 80, and realized there was a gear grind, and that the only way to get some stat combos was through specific dungeons, running them for days to get a full set of the legendary you wanted (nightmare set from Twilight Arbor).

The difference between a fresh 80, and a legendary 80… is noticeable to say the least.

Does anyone still think gear doesn’t matter?

Except they aren’t all the same. You can’t possibly believe playing the map as home server, is the same as playing the map from the position of SE server or SW server.

The three vantage points are remarkable different on the map. They play completely different depending on where your server starts the map.

Tonight I saw IOJ and SOS for the first time work directly together. They hit us hard, and they hit us fast, and they individually threw everything at us until they each got their own keeps.

Gratz to the KD guild who ran a great offensive, and to the tenacity of the IOJ guys who did great as well eventually after like 6 hours finally getting the garrison.

So I defended and did probably 300k damage.

There also needs to be an adjustment to DMG vs objects as they are immune to conditions. It could take me all day to take down a piece of siege when a direct damage dealer could have it down in well under half the time.

I disagree, if you want to do damage to an object, just swap weapons. It’s really that simple.

Yeah, Anet has to do a lot of work to properly credit players. Mesmer reflection damage does not count for damage done by the mesmer, even though it counts against the mesmer if those players have retribution.

Healing doesn’t count or buffing doesn’t count either. Only damage done directly by you through button press appears to give any credit at all.

I’ve been on the loosing side. Honestly it was more fun than being on the side with 100% map control. Why? Because you form up with your guildies at spawn, you build your forces… and then when you are ready you stretch out your arm and conquer blitzkrieg style. Its mad experience and karma.
Of course, if your server only has lone wolves.. then you never EVER get past the campers at your spawn. Thus the need for WvW guild to prepare a battle.

Would you support a buff like proposed to of set native leads/over night caps?

There need to be filter options for commander badges. Your guilds. your alliance and general server etc. That would help with coordinating. But i agree with commander becomming a status symbol being a problem. it needs to be tied to size of group aswell

I believe only the top 3 commanders (by squad size) will show up on the map. So ‘status symbol’ shouldn’t be a problem.

My guild has 3 commander icons, and they are invaluable when used correctly. When everyone joins your squad /squadinfo let’s you know who individually is in your squad, who has how much supply, and totals at bottom. Through proper leadership the regulars on our map know to follow and that they can trust us to keep winning.

If your command is abusing his icon, ignore him. It’s that simple. Encourage the leaders that are doing their job, even if they don’t have an icon.

A wintergrasp style buff is a very bad idea. The loosing team would conquer objectives relying on the buff more than strategy. Defending against a mindless buffed enemy zerg wouldn’t be appealing or fair either. And then those with the buff would get pushed back quickly once the buff is removed (either by taking objectives if its point based, or by people joining if its pop based). Since they never communicated or used strategy, removing the buff would essentially kill them.

Also, the reason there are three servers involved is for balance. The day people stop attacking everything that’s red and concentrate on the strongest server is the day WvW will be more enjoyable for everyone.

Balanced matches are what the point is. One side takes everything, the other two sides are buffed so they can still be competitive.

Are any matches right now close? Or is one server clearly dominant in most matches. Once you get keeps/towers fully upgraded and supplied, it’s very difficult for anther side to stop that because it requires less effort on your part.

Evening the playing field, giving the sides the incentive to keep fighting keeps competition in the matches.

You havent thought this through clearly. 100% is an absurd number, though i understand once they reclaim territory itll drop down. But lets say its EB and the 3 servers each have their natural keeps/towers with one server holding SM. Thats something like 220, 220, 255, respectively. Are you suggesting that each server gets a ~70% buff, because they dont hold certain keeps/towers? Thats stupid.

So let’s evolve the idea. Each side should maintain %33 of the objectives. All things being equal you should not own %66. So factor that in. Whatever % of what you don’t own -%66.

Sounds like you got destroyed in Hill keep on border lands. Mesmer portal into the room stops that strategy, or your own arrow carts firing around the corner. In the future when you get beat take some time to develop your own solution. For the most part there are counter strategies to everything in WvW.

In WoW there was a buff that was supposed to equalize the playing field when you’re side was out manned although it really didn’t work. in the interest of doing something similar in WvW that would actually work I thought of aasimilar system based on territory control. Where for every objective you did not own you would get a % increased to all stats.

For example:
A Keep is worth 25 of 695 points. This works out to be about %3.6 of the total points. I propose that when you lose a keep your stats are increased by that amount. If you lose everything then all stats are increased by %100.

This would give the underdogs incentive to fight, or a chance at making a comeback keeping game even.

Orbs: They have to go.

It is my belief the orb mechanic only further advances the dominant side. The WvW team should take a look at the amount of time the dominant side has held the orbs vs the sides that are not dominant.

To me this is like fighting someone who always out gears you.

How would I change it? For every orb your side doesn’t own your side has %33 reduced repair bill. Since you’re probably out matched this would make it less painful. Even if one side gives up the orbs you get the stat bonus so it works out all around.

Are you sure the storm didn’t destroy the altar? It can do that, and if you aren’t paying attention you lose the orb. Garrison is the worst place to put it because of this.
