I think you are unaware. Proof of Heroics can be used for hero pts. It’s slower though.

Significantly slower that if you want to be competitive and actually use your Elite Spec you’re basically forced into doing this ridiculous gated content dance to get your Elite.

You are seriously missing the point here, and you seem to totally bypass Soulstitch reason …..by you joining a friends group you are not completing your personal story, so at level 1 you can not complete your story simply by porting over to arah and getting carried by your Friends.

I think you’re missing the point, and deliberately avoiding the the problem. If I wanted, I could do the entire personal story, at level 80, from beginning to end.

In HoT, you’re 80, and to do the story you need to do every single event you come across, as well as the story . It’s not a choice.

I love that’s where you went with that. You’re not getting the argument. As has been repeatedly stated by literally everyone. Nothing in GW2 has been been gated so specifically till now. You’ve always been able to just do whatever you wanted in GW2. I’ve rarely ever done pve. Rarely done pve events. I’ve done the personal story a couple times till completion and ran some dungeons, but most if not all of my time is in WvW or SPvP.

When I wanted to do something in pve, it was my choice. With this expansion, they locked the Elite Specs behind a massive Hero Point Grind that corresponds with the HC if you do all of them, then locked those behind gate, after gate, after gate, after gate.

I mean you could technically spend the next couple months grinding the 400 HP you need to get your elite unlocked in WvW itself, but that’s equally as ridiculous.

Could you imagine if they put the Elite spec behind a WvW wall instead of a PvE wall? I’m sure you’d be singing a different tune right now.

Is there a workaround for Scout Acan not talking to me? This entire process is frustrating enough and then I encounter something like this. How do I get him to talk to me after i glide over to him and my quest says to talk to him.

You can get to Orr at level 1 in GW2 if you can avoid dying.

Point I was making was if you think doing events is grinding, You have been grinding since you started to play gw2. Seeing as to level up you run around maps and do events. People have been “grinding” silverwastes for months now have they not?

Would you have been happier if Anet raised the level cap past 80 and actually added a new tier of gear? Basically making all your current gear subpar to any of the new gear added. Also to get your new gear you actually had to do something over and over again for only a “chance” at a new piece of gear dropping.

Chance is the keyword there. If you quote me and say you are doing events over and over we will never see eye to eye and have a different definition of what grinding is..

I’ve never been forced to pve in a specific order before today in GW2. I could run my Asuran over to Sylvari land, and do any events I wanted. I was not forced to complete my Asuran starting area, in a very specific order, making sure I am forced to do every event that pops up.

Everything about HoT is being forced into a very specific order you must do before you can progress. Gating Elite Specs behind a required Hero Point Grind that you get if you do every single piece of the HoT trash events to gain mastery in so many different areas? (you know how kittened I was when I glided down to that frog on the ledge only to be told I need to get some stupid mastery in order to even see what the hero challenge is?)

I won’t feel accomplished when I’m done HoT, It’s a grind before I can get my Elite and then I can start enjoying the game. I’ll just be glad it’s over, then I’ll be able to enjoy it if I’m still playing at that point.

This is extremely poor game design.

My biggest beef is that if I want my Elite Spec for my Revenant in a reasonable amount of time, I need to do this ridiculous content. Every single other Character I’ve ever played since Alpha was 100% able to do everything I wanted between WvW and sPvP. Even back in Alpha the only time I ever did pve was for focus testing and I was asked to do it. Otherwise I’ve stuck with WvW and sPvP.

This expansion, and gating the Elites behind a ridiculous Hero Point Grind has killed that for me. I don’t trust Anet any more and will discourage any other gamers I know from trying this game until this is fixed.

I couldn’t imagine every doing this on any other Character. I’m doing it on my Revenant because I love the Herald Spec, and Want to WvW / Spvp on it, but I couldn’t imagine doing this on any of my other 80s, grinding masteries to get hero challenges done, is just terrible game design and it’s not worth my time.

I’m not going to vote till I get into WvW, after I get through this ridiculous pve grind to get my Revenant Herald spec… but if I had to vote today I’d give it a 0. I’ve spent most of the day simply finding ways of getting to the hero challenges, only to find that I need some stupid mastery precursors to get the hero challenge done.

So am I seeing this right? In order to get your elite in a reasonable manner, you’ve got to do the pve portion of the expansion, including that ridiculous mastery grind to even get to some of the hero points?

There’s no WvW equivalent of the 400 hero points you gain from expansion pve?

I’m condi, and I’m going straight for glint, I have so much success with Mallyx that I rarely go into Shiro unless I’m using superspeed for travel.

It’s because Anet has decided to allow the toxicity of full premades vs full randoms. Creates frustration and a toxic community.

Until they fix the teams vs. solo issue, you can’t take spvp in GW2 seriously. They obviously don’t.

Even Heroes of the Storm has this concept down. You can queue as a team, vs other teams and get a separate rank, or queue as solo/pair and get a rank that way.

When you can queue as a 5 men on voice comm and grind on solo queue all day. How are those wins meaningful from a pvp perspective? You’re literally just grinding at that point.

So is this really a thing? I’ve heard about it, but I thought Anet was going to take pvp seriously. How can anyone take pvp seriously when you’re willing to put 5 man against solo queues? Is there any kind of matchmaking going on?

I was assuming power based build so they wouldn’t necessarily be using mace swap. But yeah I ran mace/shield sword axe swap and would constantly fire field > mace 3 > sword 2

But, you have to take these things into consideration. Kind of like expecting all of your abilities to be fantastic without proper equipment/stats.

Another fantastic usage of EtD I found was simply swapping to Mallyx, popping shield 5, and etd on the point. By the time I ran out of energy, I was back into Glint if I needed.

Etd by itself is, decent. Would I be upset if it was tweaked? No not really but you can’t look at any ability in a vaccuum.

Would I like it to have condition transference? Yes, but only to give use to Pain Absorption. I would even like Venom Enhancement fixed(icd is way too long) to give Mallyx even more power.

But you can’t look at any ability in a vacuum and not take into consideration all the possibilities.

20+ stacks of vulnerability + fire + poison + 15-20 stacks of torment, and people just melt away. This can be done to groups as well. Just watching them melt often being able to down 2-3 people at a time before being downed myself in 1v3 situations . Of course I’m still learning, and others are still learning there’s still power to the elite now.

What, did they just stand still and have 0 cleanses? You’ll never do that against someone that knows what they’re doing.

glint elite, axe 5, hammer 5, sword 5, shiro elite… there’s tons of ways to stop a stomp.

I’ve been devastating capture points with Elemental Blast, Burst of Strength, and then swapping to Embrace the Darkness. It’s kind of amazing.

Lets not be misleading here.
The poison is 1 stack per 20s and the Burn is only 2 stacks every time you activate an elite(10s icd).
Then, it takes several seconds of being in range to actually do any decent amount of Torment.

Which means in objective manipulation, it’s fantastic .Covers the entire capture point just fine. Doesn’t make it good in every situation, just it makes it useful in close quarters combat.

Embrace the Darkness is growing on me quite a bit. So when you’re traited properly, you get 546 toughness (from Hardening Persistence) stacking Flame (Diabolic Persistence), Poison (Venom Enhancement(which does actually need work), plus 10% stats, and stacking torment.

This stat the more I think about it and use it is actually pretty awesome.

Pain absorption needs to be an upkeep ability that reduces duration of conditions while pulling from allies, and adding resistance.

Last night it was happening every 5 min, and sometimes I can go hours. I think it’s something to do with Mesmers because it happens most often on my Mesmer, and when I crash there is definitely a mesmer around. Using the most up to date drivers for my gtx660. I Just get the notification window, and then windows recovers from the driver crash.

Medium. It has a skill curve so that will deter a lot of fotm rerollers, but Herald is powerful enough that it will probably be desired in groups.

The poison trait needs to lose the CD on it too.

I recommend a 7-10 sec ICD so you can keep a single stack up reliably. But no ICD would be ridiculous OP.

Am I the only one that is enjoying Mallyx? Boon stripping, aoe torment / chill. Sure EtD needs work, Pain Absorption needs it’s cost lowered, but for the most part it’s still pretty powerful. Traited Banish Enchantment is pretty powerful. Some tweaking to be done for sure, but it’s not the end of the world.

I get more out of retribution than I do invocation, and I don’t see the point of hammer unless you’re in wvw assaulting a keep or something. Most skills between mallyx and glint require you to be closer than the hammer range.

Run enhanced bulwark, it gives you tons of survivability with the F2 and the stab on dodge trait. I basically ran this build last beta, its pretty sweet.

Also run carrion/scavenging (or forge runes). Dolyak runes are kitten, and rabid stats are infererior to carrion since carrion lets you survive burst better.

I’ve already swapped to Enhanced Bulwark in build. Makes more sense with the range you have to be in all the time. And am trying out the Carrion vs Rabid, but with Dolyak I never have a problem with surviveability.

swapped sword out and just go Mace/Shield/Axe and am having even more success. Using Unyielding anguish + Elemental Blast in AoE situations, Burst of Strength + Banish Enchantment in 1v1 situations against a mobile/aware foe.

Not finding much success with Embrace the Darkness as the 7 upkeep drains everything and leaves me too vulnerable, but pain absorption / empowering mastery really helps against condi builds, while infuse light / gaze of darkness really helps against power builds.

Remember. You’re playing against people that don’t fully understand our class, and against people that might be trying new specializations. It’s far too early to say “ermagherd op”.

Completely unimpressed by this. While I wouldn’t support 100% uptime, 20 sec icd is kinda high. I would suggest that it be a 10 second icd, or a chance per torment. 10 icd means ~3 seconds between torment applications before it’s reapplied, but nearly 100% uptime when you’re putting out so many torments. a 20 icd is just too long, and is hardly worth taking this trait for that.

I feel the exact opposite.
I find the new one to be worse. it has less access to non-damaging conditions , lower damage and no synergy at all. i even had to drop the corruption trait line and malyx for invocation and shiro, and that was for a condition build…

Boon Stripping, and Confusion Application is pretty awesome. Pulsing Torment, is pretty awesome, which when traited also pulses poison. And condition protection for your group, pretty awesome.

I am finding Mallyx even better now, and am using Glint/Mallyx over Glint/Shiro.
