Dungeon is work not fun

This dungeon was most likely designed by psychologists in an attempt to see just how far human patience can be stretched. I have never had less fun in any game I’ve ever played and I am taking a break from GW2 indefinitely. The golem part was easy enough.. after wiping 10+ times. Then the final boss with the ridiculous amount of cannons and that unblockable shadow step one shot is totally soul-crushing. There is no reason I will ever play this dungeon. You spent far more gold repairing broken armor than you get from the final reward/loot. Not to mention every kitten chest and mob drop in this dungeon is RNG blues; all day, every day. This dungeon was a total waste of the 5 or so hours I have after work.

I use it quite a bit. At this point, I’ve memorized what all the skills/items are and when to use them. Steal only seems to be used in conjunction with the Mug trait, which basically means you’ve got 10 trait points tied up in a useless trait line. Steal/mug is also really only used as 1) gap closer or 2) initial strike. It is so good that it can no longer crit, because it was possible to crit 6k on a fully geared lvl 80. Total BS.

How about mist form stomping?
How about engineer stomping with that invulnerability shrinking elixir?
How about mist form running through keep doors when you should have died?

Stomping/downed state in WvW is a totally broken and failed mechanic that shouldn’t even exist in the first place.

Why?

Too many downed state abilities that interrupt stomp + avoid the inevitable + promote and benefit zerg auto-rezzing, rallying, and so on.

Too many ways to stomp unfairly so that the above mentioned abilities don’t work. They pretty much cancel each other out, which means downed state should be removed from WvW/PvP.

I have been experiencing absolutely terrible lag in Queensdale, after I assume, the latest patch. I will get network lag where skills no longer work but I can still run, and most of the time I’ll just get disconnected from the server. Anyone else have the same experience?

t6 mats in general are expensive because drop rates have been nerfed to hell on everything. if you want to get something expensive in game, buy gems and convert to gold.

there are a few mesmer hacks that I have seen like blinking on top of walls… if you can… film it and report it.

I think that Anet need to revisit the line of sight thing on mesmer skills because sometimes even if I am on a small hill… half my skills won’t work (especially sword/pistol combo)… I need to be on a even playing field to use some of my skills. I manage but it does give the person I am fighting against an unfair advantage and I have to spend more time dodging and in invisibility waiting for skills to recharge.

All line of sight needs to be revisited, honestly. Being able to attack something behind a door , not including hitting the door with aoe and hitting people behind it, is messed up. I am talking about being able to target an object behind the door and use skills that do not require LOS. All skills should require LOS. What kind of kitten is that? Using dragon tooth, eles can take down arrow carts way up on cliffs, or arrow carts placed behind doors, just by being able to target it. This shouldn’t happen at all. Ever.

I’m not sure how to put this. I like the people I’ve met on DR, but hardly any of them play WvW. The new match up places DR against a multitude…a huge mass of players, yet twenty of us can hold out against their multitude. Still, we eventually just get run over. No skill, no great strategy just a bunch of hapless people who happen to have great numbers on their side. So, is that fun…for them apparently it is. That’s how they play, can’t say I blame them. For me, I get tired of trying to deal with five to ten players for our every one. So….I’m done with WvW for a while until AN figures out the match-ups or DR gets some intestinal fortitude and we get a few more players in WvW.

There is only strategy involved in how you move a zerg around a map, when you cap one point and sacrifice another, etc. There is no strategy in group combat as it is nothing more than spam AoEs and auto attack. It is the same way on every server, in every group. Numbers are the only determining factor in WvW battles. Strategy/strategic execution is integral in actually winning WvW by points.

have been playing this game since launch and i had only really heard about combo fields but never actually used/taken advantage of them. i have been seeing in wvw lately ‘condition removal’ and stuff like that on people, but never realy thought about what it was. combat in gw2 is too cluster-kitteny to really take advantage of combo fields.

I feel like all servers complain about the same stuff. All servers glitch/bug/hack, all servers send spies, all servers are filled with baddies, all servers are just ‘free bags’ and have tons of up-levels, and all servers don’t solo-roam and and only zerg. These complaints are made about every server in every WvW thread ever made since the beginning of this game. Either all servers actually DO do that, or people are just trying to find things to talk smack/complain about.

This is kind of a rant, but I also want to hear what other players have to say about it.

Some things I think that break WvW:

  1. Laying on the ground/spying
  2. Hiding mesmers in keeps after you lose them / portal bombing
  3. People in general being in keeps after you take it from them
  4. Keeps are impossible to defend unless you have your entire zerg there or many strategically placed arrow carts
  5. Too many AoE skills can line the walls making keeps impossible to defend without a large group or a ton of siege.
  6. Gold-buying (see: have no idea what they’re doing, only commander because they are rich) commanders who tag up and fragment groups being run by competent commanders
  7. Boosted WvW rank exp, making upgraded and OP siege a common thing.

Laying on the ground after you’re dead and spying:

Shouldn’t even be possible. Fade the screen to black/blur after so many seconds/minutes to disable this. An argument can be made that they are actually screwing their team over because they’re just laying there dead, but, in this game, one person missing from a zerg of 30-40 (even 20) players, does not make any difference whatsoever.

Hiding mesmers/people in keeps in general/portal bombing:

There should be a mechanic that teleports you out of the keep if you lose it to someone else. Think of stonemist. After you waste a ton of supply and siege to take it (see: earning it), and then once you take it the entire enemy zerg is still within the walls, they can just slaughter you and wait for righteous indig. to go away and flip it again. Portal bombing as a strategy to get your zerg behind an enemy zerg is totally fine and actually clever. Also, moving golems with this is fine as it doesn’t violate game mechanics at all. However, having a mesmer hide in a keep and then portalling their friends in (especially at bay/hills) to inner wall or even INSIDE inner wall is pretty much unacceptable and needs to be made impossible. It should be that if certain conditions aren’t met, you can’t proceed (If an outer wall/door hasn’t been taken down, the inner is invulnerable. likewise if an inner door/wall hasn’t been taken down, the lord is invulnerable.) It just doesn’t make sense why people should be able to bypass an entire layer of protection by using one skill. It’s BS and isn’t fair.

Keeps being impossible to defend/AoE skills on wall/skills not requiring LoS and destroying siege:
Unless you have a ton of arrow carts or a large group to defend a tower/keep, kiss it goodbye. With staff necro marks, staff ele meteor shower, lb ranger arrow volley or whatever it is called, it is impossible to stand on a wall and defend a tower/keep without getting dropped in seconds. you could say: oh, place siege. except this isn’t even possible anymore because almost all places that siege can be placed it can be AoEd down. Dawns tower is a good example of this. The only place you can put siege and not have it killed is on the ramp going up to supply. even that i’m not sure is a safe place. Anywhere else and eles with scepter can just use dragons tooth without even having LoS and kill it.

inexperienced/gold-buying commanders ruining groups:
there are commanders who simply bought gems convert to gold and bought a commander tag without spending hours and hours in game earning that gold. the commander tag being reliant on an item that can be spawned (gold) was a bad design choice from the beginning. it should have been based on wvw experience (kills, plots taken, etc) + badges. this is too late to fix and is really not even worth complaining about anymore.

boosted wvw exp:
should have never been boosted. i am totally fine with them giving exp for a wider range of activities but the fact they doubled exp from taking keeps and stuff is totally lame. people are so impatient that they complained that gaining wvw rank was too slow (um, it should be. it grants access to powerful abilities), and so they buffed it. now, the majority of players have AC range, cannons that remove boons, wider radius shots, and so on. only players who play wvw a lot should be rewarded with these things and not just everyone.

well, that’s pretty much it. i realize it is a lot and i tried to split it up into smaller sections.

I am really starting to hate siege. I don’t understand at all why if they buffed arrow cart as much as they did, they didn’t increase the amount of badges required or siege to build it. They are just giving away siege in rank chests, jumping puzzle, and drops from players and NPCs. It is ridiculous.

Siege needs to be re-worked IMO. Tactics that were used to avoid arrow cart rain are no longer viable because of the increased range. At durios tower in EB people would set up catapults on the hill between ogres and umber to take it, but now that AC have range, this isn’t as possible anymore. It sucks that the way you go about sieging a tower is totally based around where they have arrow carts and how many.

Why Not Balance Thieves In WvW Like Spvp

nerf != balance.

Acceptable thief balancing in WvW includes:
Reducing number of stealth-giving skills
Increasing reveal/decreasing stealth skill duration

I main a thief and the only thing that kitten es me off about thieves is the insane amount of stealth we get. Other than that I would say we are pretty balanced/tame.

Backstab is only a problem because:
It hits insanely high most of the time
There are a lot of skills that stealth you (mug(traited), heal, c+d, shadow refuge, blinding powder, and maybe some other traits I can’t think of atm.

The initiative it takes should be an entire bar, if not AT LEAST 80% of it.

i love how all servers think the other servers are just sources for bags. i use to think that too until i realized that all servers have baddies. ioj/sf/dh are full of upleveled 80s who are nothing but cannonfodder. there are also level 80s who are in yellows/greens and die frequently.

Meh, I think it’s fine. There are only 2 classes that get alot out of it in a zerg fight and that’s mesmer and guardian. Mesmer is pretty much carried by their utilities… even with lots of clones they’re hardly overpowered in a zerg fight. Guardian dodge heal is a little ridiculous, but considering it’s just 1 class it might be better to look at the coefficient of the trait (like they did for spvp) rather than go making the sigil worthless…and if it gets an icd it will be worthless compared to energy.

TLDR: Thinking is hard.
TLDR the TLDR: bad

I like the thief benefit with it. Then again, you rarely see thieves in WvW that don’t build around having 800 ways to stealth.

1) Gain might on dodge + that one food that gives 100% might on dodge. Can gain constant stacks of might using that trait/food + sigil in WvW or any situation really.

2) Caltrops on dodge. Constant caltrops everywhere crippling the zerg, can be pretty annoying.

3) Swiftiness on dodge trait. Constant swiftness while fighting lots of people or NPC. Sure, many thieves spec signet of shadows in all builds, but it’s still nice.

I would be using any of those options if it didn’t make sacrifices to my already decent build.

I think this is a cool sigil and probably one of the most balanced.

Sigil of stamina is fine. If it gets a cool down, that’s total BS. It works the same in pve, and if you can kill stuff quick enough, why shouldn’t you be rewarded?

WvW is flawed by design and there is nothing that can fix it. WvW is flawed because combat is flawed in this game, and it’s what makes zerging so attractive. There are too many AoE skills in this game that make large zerg encounters nothing more than a badge farm, because, for the most part, all you need to do is just spam your auto attack and hit a ton of players without even aiming or doing anything special.

People might think that there is some skill involved in WvW, but really, it’s just a numbers game. Numbers are the only thing that matters in large scale PvP. That being said, if you are in a small group of like 3v3 or 4v4 or whatever, then yeah, I would say there is skill involved in not dying.

Commanders are another thing in WvW that is dumb. Commanders are just a rally point for the zerg, and serve no other purpose, yes, people who are commanders feel an enormous sense of entitlement and that people have to listen to them. I think WvW was purest when there were no commanders to rally zergs and bark orders. It wasn’t for very long that commanders didn’t exist because I guess 100g these days is not a lot. People coordinated via map/team chat, formed parties, and actually had to work together. It wasn’t just press [M], find blue icon, and run mindlessly towards it. I hope WvW receives a major overhaul, changing the core mechanics of it and providing a different experience. Right now, it just isn’t fun. I only play WvW to PK and get loot because it is pointless to win.

Stealth mechanics in GW2 are a little too harsh at present

I main a thief and I agree with this. I hope our stealth gets nerfed. There are way too many ways for a thief to get stealth to the point where they are invisible 90% of the time and flickering around the map. Since there are so many NPCs in WvW, you can cloak and dagger them to gain stealth, plus use the many other skills we have to stealth. blinding powder, the healing skill, shadow refuge, etc. it is insane. there shouldn’t be a class that has maximum dps, maximum survivability, and maximum mobility.

One or two people could go and attack a thief, wreck them, and then they will stealth and all you can do is spam AoE and even then they are already on the other side of the map. Immobilize and stun skills are too uncommon, otherwise they would be a viable option for stopping perma-invis thieves. Please nerf thief invis. I can live with the ridiculous burst, because, it too will be nerfed when stealth is. Majority of thieves rely on being stealthed to open with mug + cnd + bs + heartseeker until death.

The chest is a guaranteed rare or above drop. It’s dropped by any mobs/players/npcs in WvW.

Edit: You can find it in PvE environment too.

Improve WvW: Dissuade the Zerg Mentality

I kind of wanted to make my own thread for this.. but I’ll post it here: I think zergs in WvW would lose MASSIVE effectiveness if so many auto-attack skills and skills in general didn’t hit multiple targets.

I play a thief, and using trick shot I can sit there and bounce arrows of multiple people and hit 2500 crits and people just drop. There’s also the dagger auto attack, which is multi-target. As is dancing dagger.. and I think that one that bleeds people is too. A lot.. well.. probably 99.99999% of the time anyone dies in WvW is because of ridiculous amounts of AoE attacks. If you are not equipped with a bunch of defensive stuff (shadow refuge/other stealth kitten), or high armor/vit(sometimes even if), you drop instantly, even if you aren’t running straight into a zerg. If a single person’s AoE is limited to five people, how come, defensively, we can take damage from more than 5 aoe attacks? What bothers me most is that often times the people who are killing you aren’t even trying to kill you. Your death is just an effect of every class having so many attacks that are multi-target. I think if a lot of these abilities were toned down/multi-target removed, zergs would be much less effective, and skirmishes would be more about who has better coordination in calling out targets (see: squads) than who can auto attack the most.

I want to clarify that by aoe attacks i dont mean actual aoe like flame burst or cluster bomb.. i mean auto attacks being multi-target.

Yes, either that or nerf it by a LOT. I mean having to kill the same person twice is annoying, even more so when they have skills that can interrupt your “FINISH” animation. Sure, you can try to kill them with attacks but if you both just finished fighting you probably don’t have enough HP to take the hits. Then the fight results in 2 people throwing rocks at each other on the ground and the person with the better downed skills wins.

EDIT: If it wasn’t obvious, I only want it removed/nerfed in PvP. PvE is fine with it, better actually.

see: warrior’s vengeance. it is pretty much impossible to beat and actually finish a warrior 1v1. first, when you go to finish them, they throw the hammer at you, which knocks you down for like 2-3 sec and does damage. and they’re now throwing rocks at you. by the time you can start the stomp animation again you are on the ground and they just got vengeance.

I feel like if, down the line, they increased the level cap and introduced a gear treadmill it would actually work. I think the majority of/at least a lot of people are level 80 and geared up by now, so it wouldn’t really break anything. WvW is getting stale and it would add a reason for people to actually do content.

The other problem is there is no real penalty for bad play with the initiative system. If you miss an ability, for instance using HS out of range (or it being dodged) you should be penalized with additional initiative use.

just REMOVE initiative its stupid we all have cd’s except the thief class…

If you remove the initiative system, you do realize that the people that are QQing about how OP we are will still be QQing. Due to the fact that IF they take out initiative, they will have to buff our individual weapon skills and adding extra affects to our abilities to compensate. So in essence, we will hit even harder and be given more durability in straight up fights.

he did. are you dumb? without initiative thief skills are too weak. they only seem OP with how fast you can use them.

Disappointed.

-No Dueling.
-Thieves still at large. there was a sizeable CnD nerf, but nothing to mug or backstab or pistol whip.
-Warriors still at large, no nerfs (besides dual shot), very surprising.
-Mesmer portal nerf should’ve been PvP only like they did for some other skills.
-Engineers will still and forever be a gimmicky clunky class that will never be competitive.

Pistol whip was already nerfed by 15%… do people just want thieves to be completely useless and their class to be the only good one? All this nerfing is depressing and the hundreds of hours I put into my account is starting to feel like it was all for nothing.

Protesting WvW. After the tier-1 SBI/BG fiasco there is really no point in participating in such a poorly designed and exploitable feature. They also patched the ability to switch to town clothes and not have to pay repair costs, which is another reason I’m not playing WvW this week.

How unbalanced and broken WvW is is proven by this week’s match. A sub-par and lousy server like SoS should be in second or even last place. Mass transfers and server-hopping give otherwise terrible servers insane advantages.

The bad thing about WvW is that once a server gets a measly 4-5k points ahead its pretty much over. Morale is crushed and nobody can really be bothered with it. After all, there are no rewards to winning WvW and it’s a total loss (repair costs, spending gold on siege, etc).

DIsagree.. Something like this is just begging to be exploited. Have a friend transfer to enemy server, have them take armor off (0 repair costs), and just kill them over and over. It would work if there was a limit to how often you could kill the same person and get points for it, maybe.

This ‘will-breaking’ mentioned above can happen on day one of WvW. People are just sore losers and get mad if things aren’t going their way. Then again, the way WvW is designed, if the scores are 12k-8k-4k, the 4k server may as well give up. Scores like that can happen like, what, 6-8 hours into a new match? Once a server has built up momentum, and once a server has lost hope, there is no changing it.

Pretty disappointed in IoJ if this is true. Never even heard a single report of any kind of exploiting until now. Although yesterday or the day before we pushed ET back off of our garrison in some borderlands, forget which, and went up to take Cragtop. Most of us were standing outside and I was alt-tabbed and when I came back I saw a bunch of us inside Cragtop on the wall and the door/walls were still up. Dunno if they used mesmer portal or what, but every since launch I have never seen this kind of behavior until recently.

IoJ was always the rank 5 server before TL from ET came over.

ET on the other hand was never a good server without team legacy/ruin and this just proves it. None of their players are even good pvpers so idk what the hell they’re doing fighting us. It’s equivalent to hod being in tier 1 and getting wrecked like they currently are. it just doesn’t belong.

I do this all the time and I’ll continue to do it.

It has nothing to do with repair costs. I just don’t believe in dying when a 1v1 fight went to 1v2 or more. On the occasion you can actually get 1v1s in WvW.

^ You are forgetting that elementalist is a free kill, no matter who’s playing it. Elementalists rely on the same bs tactics as thieves to do to get kills: burst damage/surprise attacks. Most of the times I’ve died to an ele or died because of an ele while vsing someone else is because they used dragon’s tooth, burning speed, and then firegrab, since firegrab does way more damage if the target is burning that combo does massive damage when put together.

Anyway, if you rely on dagger storm you are gonna be a bad thief. I’ve never lost a 1v1 against a thief in wvw and I think I’ve used hs maybe once or twice my entire time playing, I just don’t enjoy it.

I’m hoping they don’t nerf thieves, because at the moment, if your class were to get nerfed there’s nothing really keeping you playing this game. It’s pretty bad. Since a ton of people play thieves in sPvP AND WvW that will be even less people playing the game if they were to get nerfed. There’s really no reason to nerf thieves as they aren’t OP. It just seems that way because of the baddies who spam heartseeker or try to infini-stealth.

There are a lot of aspects of other classes that make them “seem” OP but really aren’t.
mesmer – phantasms doing like 3k damage per attack, illusionary attacks, that multi-hit sword attack
engineers – grenade burst
warrior – bolas/rush frenzy hb
ranger – all of those traps + barrage/volley
guardian – multi-hit sword attack and the hammer 2 attack is pretty powerful.

All of this stuff is necessary in these classes. If they didn’t have them, they would be garbage.

Just think about it. If thieves get nerfed, people will start complaining about another class and then YOUR class will be nerfed.
