A good player can make any class look like the most powerful class. It’s the reason behind all of the “X class is overpowered!!” complaint threads.

I’m up to about $100. I’ve purchased 3 additional character slots, and an extra bank slot. Well worth the money if you ask me.

I just hit level 80 on my first character, and only at 40% world completion. It’s going to take me at least a year to max all of my characters out, and there should be plenty of new content available by then.

One option would be to have a check-in person, who invites members to his party and lets them join his instance.. that could take a while though. I don’t see any other way around it, unless you can right click “join in” from the guild window. (which I don’t think you can)

I’m eventually expecting to see something like guild halls, or guild housing areas, where we can have events like that.

So, Robin Hood, the man who stole from the rich and gave to the poor, is pure evil. Who woulda thunk it.

Oh, and that kid who wished for his dead dad to come back, only to have his dad end up as a snow man… EVIL!

Oh wait, reviving corpses.. the kid who brought his dog back to life. Frankenweenie. EVIL!

I mean maybe you didn’t do enough damage? I believe this is the primary factor when calculating the odds for the rare loot. If one would just stand there and contribute one range rifle shot, he wouldn’t get anything , I guess.

I was wondering that same thing. Does total amount of damage dealt have an effect on your rewards from the chest?

If that’s the case, does it only factor in damage dealt to the dragon, or does it factor in damage dealt to summoned minions or summoned structures as well? On that same note, shouldn’t contributions such as healing and support be added in as well?

Well, it looks like a majority of the responses are from old timers like myself. I did see a few young’uns speak up though, so not all is lost.

My initial thought was similar to how we all felt when we were younger, we just wanted to be a “grown up”. Kids/Teens who still live at home could possibly carry that feeling over into the game. I could be way off, but it’s a thought.

Something that I’ve seen pop up several times in recent threads is that players who are 28 and older seem to love this game, while younger players seem to want more and eventually leave the game.

Personally, in my guild we had 4 members who were in their early 20s. They all left to go play other games (WoW, LoL, etc.) Everyone left is 30+, and we can’t get enough of this game.

I’m just interested to know if anyone else has experienced this. If you enjoy this game are you over 30? If you hate this game are you 27 or younger?

Diablo 3 is NOT an esports game, neither is WoW. Even Diablo 3 has more interest and that is largely regarded to be a failure but has more interest than GW2 does and GW2 has only been out for a little over a month.

I guess you didn’t look at the videos for D3 then, the one with the highest amount of viewers is titled “BUYING UPGRADES FOR VIEWERS”. Gee. I wonder why people are watching that one.

Fact is, the popular video streamers aren’t playing GW2. That’s about the only thing I’m seeing from your link.

Invoking the mighty ‘twitchtv’ again…
Didnt we nail this in a post a few days ago? Viewers are down for a multitude of reasons, none of which spell doom for the game…

That is just one of many metrics you can use to gauge current interest in GW2, Xsplit is one of the other many ways you can see that interest/people playing it has declined immensely since launch.

I’m done trying to argue the obvious. Like others have said, denying that there is an issue isn’t going to make it go away. You can deny all you want, it will not change the facts.

There is no issue. People were viewing live streams to see if they wanted to purchase the game or not. Of course the # of viewers is going to go down when the game has been out for over a month now.

Once they implement the competitive PvP system with the tickets and super prizes, you’ll see those numbers go right back up. If you didn’t notice, all of the top viewed games are competitive PvP games.

My guild has an average age of 28 or 29 now, and it’s been going up (both our population and our average player age) since launch. The older people love the game and remain, the younger ones tend to move on to games more fitting to their interests. No one game is for everybody.

If my fellow older men and women are the minority, I welcome it.

Same in my guild. We had a few people who are in their early 20s, and they left to go play other games. Everyone left is 30+, and loving the game.

I’m going to use a very simple and easy to understand visual for those head in sand people. If you go to this page on Twitch you’ll see the games with the most viewers which is a very good gauge of current interest in that game in the gaming community. As you can see Guild Wars 2 is way down on that list. The game started out at a much higher spot when it came out but has been in a constant decline since.

Of course it was higher close to launch date. People were checking it out to decide whether or not to buy it.

If you notice, all of the top viewed games are competitive games, which is what GW2 is heading towards.

Odd, over on mmorpg.com, GW2 is the highest rated MMO out of the entire list.

Odd. Media companies make money from good reviews.

((also, if I was sent a free copy (copies!) of GW2 and a bunch of cool promotional stuff from Anet and NCSoft, I’d love the game, too.))

So you’re saying that ANet is the only one that pays review sites? Yeah, I’m sure that’s totally true.

Did I say that? Please quote me if I did. I’d love to read it (for the first time).

You missed the point: don’t give too much weight to a review from a company that has a vested interest in giving good reviews. Make YOUR OWN choice.

Of course you didn’t say it, but you implied it. No I didn’t miss the point, if you notice, there is an official MMORPG.com Review, and then a “User’s Review” section just below it. The ratings on that list come from the user reviews, not the official review.

Why didn't ANet create servers for each time zone?

Stevoli.8795

So. why do have servers again?

You answered your own question. WvWvW. It would mean a lot more if they didn’t allow unlimited free server transfers back in the beginning.

With free server transfers every 24 hours, and the ability to right click “Join” anyone in your friends list (even people on other servers), I think the setup works great.

To the OP, I suggest you make a post on the forums looking for people in your time zone, and then add some of them to your friends list. You can then either transfer to a server that has active players in your time zone, or you can just right click Join them when they are on.

Add some unique skins that are tied to the zones for people to do stuff in those zones.

That would be pretty sweet, but then they would have to add another currency system, basically a map specific coin or credit that you save up for doing events on a map.

At level 80, people are going to be working on map completions, or farming karma/gold for new gear. Since the karma/gold rewards in lower level events don’t scale up very well, you won’t see any level 80s doing them, unless they are working on map completion.

If they did decide to increase the karma rewards for low level events, people will eventually migrate to the easiest one (since let’s face it, even the most enjoyable dynamic event gets boring after doing it a few times)

The only true way that I can see this working, which I think they tried but failed with, is if they actually increase Diminishing Returns and force people to visit different maps rather than farming one event over and over. They would need to combine it with a system wide increase on the scaling of low level events for level 80s though.

That in itself would cause an uproar from the people who want to be able to play how they want though. It’s really a no-win situation for them over at ANet. The only thing we can do is “wait and see” really.

“Devs” should be more like a Dungeon/Game Master. They should be “in the game” “controlling” things.

Every MMO I’ve been in that has tried that has failed miserably at it. It always ends up being an event that everyone shows up to, causing massive lag, and a complete zerg fest, while the GM spawns waves of mobs.

Then you have people who missed the event, basically crying on the forums because they didn’t know about the event 1 week in advance.

I think the way dynamic events work now is pretty good, they’re just a bit too predictable. If they alternated which dynamic events were active in maps every few days, it would make it feel like things are changing.

Since they included the option to convert gold to gems, they have to keep a tight lock on how much gold you can make. This includes nerfing any possibility of speed runs, nerfing easy rewards, and nerfing easy loot.

It’s always going to be their #1 priority, since the gem store is going to be their cash cow.

Guild wars 1 had something like that and it resulted in people farming them, A LOT. The thing you seem to be forgetting is once you give certain mobs rare loot, people will start farming them and we end up with a system very similar to quest mobs.

I could see that being a valid argument if tagging a mob made it so no one else could get loot from it, but the way this game works, everyone gets loot. You just need to be there and hit it a couple times.

Champions should be something you want to do because you want to test yourself, if you are doing it for any other reason then don’t. If you need incentives to do in game content then you should really consider doing something else (not an absolute statement).

That too I could see being a valid argument if champions were actually challenging, as they are now you just need a decent number of people there, and the champion goes down fairly quickly. I don’t agree that they should have 100% chance for rare since they can be zerg’d very easily, but they should at least have a small chance to drop something that people can sell.

I guess any way you look at it though, people will take the path of least resistance, and farm the champion that’s easiest to kill, it’s the nature of the beast.

Engineer is great for swapping with kits. I go from pistol/pistol to flame thrower for a knockback and blind, plus the ground fire that I can fire my pistols through. Then I can swap to the grenade kit for another blind and slow plus aoe damage, or switch to the toolkit and throw nails everywhere to slow things, smack a mob with a pry bar, then backflip out leaving a mine on the ground and switch back to pistols.
