Endgame: Things to do when you reach the current max level cap.
That’s what it has always meant, not sure where all of these other pseudo definitions are coming from.
You can adjust the camera slider under options, it moves the camera to the left or right of your character which gives you an over the shoulder view. (when zoomed in)
I guess I should play something else because I can’t think for myself and I need people to tell me what I should be doing.
Seems like the ranger always has aggro in my group. We have a guardian, thief, ranger, and an elementalist, yet the ranger is always pissing off the boss mobs.
Stop pissing off the boss mobs, and they won’t come after you relentlessly.
Seriously though, whatever you are doing, teach it to the guardians so they can hold aggro better
I love underwater combat, I’ve only run across the random invulnerability bug a couple of times, other than that it’s a blast.
1. If you want risk, then take risks. Everyone can stand at max range and just spam one button in any game, and then claim there’s a minimal risk. If you are making the game boring, you can’t really blame the game for that. You could also choose run around and revive people, or play melee and get up in the bosses face. The game has, and never will be, about rewards. The game is build for people who enjoy the gameplay first, and then consider rewards as a bonus. Computer games are not a gamble, they are meant for entertainment in the same way a book is.
I agree 100% on this. Too many people play MMOs as a numbers game anymore. They aren’t looking for a unique class, they are looking for the highest DPS with the least amount of effort so they can power through content as fast as possible.
Some don’t even try the different classes! They just search the forums or “build” sites to find a high DPS class, never mind what the class even is.
Gone are the days of actually role-playing in a role-playing game, it’s all about big numbers, shiny loot, and unlimited content these days. GW2 is trying to change that mindset, but I don’t know if it’ll be able to unbrainwash todays modern MMO player.
The beauty of GW2 is that a single class can be built at least a dozen different ways. However some builds are VERY dependent on trait lines, so you’re probably going to need to take a class to L40 (20 trait points in a single line) to really get a feel for it. That’s quite a commitment. Can’t give you an easy answer, I’m afraid; hope this one is of some use!
Just go out to the sPvP lobby, you instantly hit level 80 and unlock all traits. You can experiment with different builds there.
I asked in map chat the other day about a skill challenge that was missing, and everyone said it was bugged, so I said “man this is the third bugged skill challenge I’ve run across today”.
I couldn’t believe the responses. I got called a troll, I was told to go back to wow, I had several people say they blocked me. A couple people kept saying this game has the least amount of bugs ever so to just deal with it. Others said there are plenty of other games to play if I don’t like it, etc. etc.
What is up with these people being so blindly defensive? One negative remark (that wasn’t even really negative) and all hell breaks loose.
Go play EVE Online if you want a punishing game (open world pvp). You die there, you lose all of your equipment, you lose your implants, and everything in your inventory.
I don’t see the difference between raiding and dungeons, other than more people in the instance at once.
Are you just wanting checkpoints or locks added? Does having 50 people in an instance somehow make it more fun? Seems like it would make for a larger zerg-fest in this game IMO.
I don’t know why you guys did 100% map completion on one character. That seems like something you’d go for after you’re done with everything else. You basically killed the replay value of it by doing that. I’m waiting until I level up all of my alts first, then I’ll go back with my main and get 100% for the achievement.
Thanks Mongo. That was really helpful!
So sad though; i was initially very interested in the elementalist till i heard so many ‘underpowered’ claims about them :/
The people claiming that they are underpowered are just staying in one stance, or have no idea how to use combo fields and finishers.
There’s an option to stop auto-attack on target swap.
What is annoying is when people blind themselves to the larger issues and try to tell people they are either overreacting or wrong. Anet did just like most other failed mmo’s have done in the past 4-5 years… They put to much in pre release and release and not enough planning for post release.
What’s really annoying is listening to kids complain about a game like it’s the end of the world because it wasn’t perfect at launch. It’s been out ONE month. Bugs always pop up, regardless of how thorough they may have been during beta.
This happens with every single MMO launch, doom and gloom is spread throughout the forums, WoW comparisons start popping up all over, and eventually all the annoying brats leave to go back to WoW and let the niche audience enjoy their game. I can’t wait.
I started playing during the head start. I’ve been exploring, crafting, completing events, doing a bit of PvP here and there, usually 5 to 6 hours per day, and I just hit level 47 yesterday.
I have no earthly idea how level 80 in 3 days is even possible, unless you power-level like a maniac, which is pretty stupid with this game IMO.
Since WoW, I don’t think any game has grown in population after the first month after a release.
You should check out EVE Online, the population has been continually growing since release, and they just did a massive overhaul to the New Player Experience.
I think we can all agree on one thing and say that this game needs improvements and will hopefully be expanded on (For Free!) to include more variety in PVP, which I personally feel should have been there to begin with. And ofcourse try to sort out the long queue times in WvW one way or another. The way it is i’d have liked to have played the game longer, but without being able to play one of the main aspects left in the game, I found myself with nothing more to do.
So you don’t enjoy playing a character for the variety, or the complexity, you only want to play the class that does the absolute best DPS available with the least amount of effort so you can complete content as fast as possible.
You are one of the main problems with the genre. You treat each quest/mission as a numbers problem that needs to be solved in the most streamline cost effective way possible, and claim that it is fun for you.
This game really isn’t the right game for you, I honestly doubt there ever will be a game for you, other than PnP perhaps.
The guardian can use a staff that has a cone attack which hits everything in front of you for an auto-attack. Also #4 is a might stack buff that everyone loves, and #3 is a sprint boost.
I suggest using it (a staff) during those hectic DEs that things are dying faster than you can target them.
Also that Zelda jingle would be awesome!
I found a spot that was hard to get to, and it had a bomb sitting there, I was so wishing that I could blow a hole in the wall there and hear the Zelda “secret area” jingle.
Guild Wars 2, Combat RNG and why it should never have existed in a modern mmo

They could just add a Necklace of Heavy Fortification to PvP
Effect: Grants a +100% enhancement bonus to fortification, which protects against critical hits and sneak attacks.
Agreed. It’s like saying, I’ve been eating chocolate cake every day for 2 weeks now, and now I don’t like chocolate cake anymore! Something must be wrong with chocolate cake, and the bakers need to fix it or I won’t eat chocolate cake anymore. Why can’t the bakers make it taste like strawberry cake instead! I want strawberry flavored chocolate cake, now.
Please Fanboys… can you settle down and leave, your “funny” comments out of my thread. We all have our own opinion, i give you right Moiraine, i can always take a break, which i am also planning to do. But i just hope that this MMO wont go down the toilet like most other MMO’s after WoW has.
Fanboy? Oh please. I’m currently playing this, TSW, EvE Online, and Rift occasionally. I just call it as I see it, and it sounds like you played too much and got burnt out, hence the chocolate cake analogy. Like I said before, too much of anything is a bad thing.
No it’s not losing it.And if it does you can always stop playing it for a while then return. It’s B2P and none monthly fee.So even if you get bored from it you won’t lose anything if you make a little break.

I Remember i tried Ranger shortbow.
Auto attack, a poison AOE, and 3 abilites that help you keep range so you can spam auto attack more.
Don’t you hate it when a game puts your DPS rotation in the auto attack, putting you on equal footing with someone who doesn’t have the super fast keyboard skills to press 1 through 8 while circle strafing?
Then you clearly havnt tried any of the other MMO’s. or you must have been lvl 1 on the character in the games, running around with “auto attack”.
You must have misread my post, or you’ve never used a macro. With a macro, any game can be trivialized into a 1 or 2 button mash-fest, especially in games like Vanguard that have a built in macro engine.
Basically, why press 1 through 8 when I can press one button that does it for me with optimal rotation built in, get it?
BTW, not sure if you noticed, but the #1 skill usually has 3 or 4 attacks built in that automatically activate, so it is essentially a built in macro.
Why would I do hours and hours of mindless zergs only to obtain skins to do more hours and hours of mindless zergs?
Because this is a game, where you have, you know… fun?
If you want a game that feels like a job where you have to grind grind grind for better gear just to compete, there are plenty of those out already.
I’m getting a bit bored of pressing 2 buttons, weapon swap, press 2 buttons, repeat.
That’s pretty much every mmo out there, especially with macros.
NOT AT ALL!!!! Wtf man. thats pretty much, no other MMO than GW2….
WoW was different SWTOR was different Aion was different. Dont try and defend GW2 around this subject! Because, no other MMO that ive played, have you had so little to choose from.
Really? Are you talking about MMOs where you have 5 hotbars stacked up with keys bound to shift, ctrl, alt, etc, which all basically do the same thing with slight variations? Yeah that’s innovative.
BTW I’m not defending anything, just stating the obvious.
wrong, GW2 isn’t a sandbox game where you can discover new things each time you visit a new zone, it’s still a themepark mmo like wow/rift/swtor,… but it manages to hide the grind better then former themepark mmos. GW2 has clearly objectives which are farm sets/farm legendary weapons/ farm xxx, the only part of GW2 that has sandbox elements is WvW and that is right now completly broken because of the undynamical adjustments of playernumbers, resulting in hour long queues at peak-times and nightcaping.
wrong? sandbox? I guess you wanted to sound like you know what you’re talking about or something, since, you know, I didn’t mention anything about this game being a sandbox.
However, the only thing you can’t repeat are storylines, and hearts. Everything else is repeatable, and can be done at anytime, due to the level scaling. If you compare that to something like eve online, (which people consider a sandbox), it’s pretty similar in the PVE department.
I’m getting a bit bored of pressing 2 buttons, weapon swap, press 2 buttons, repeat.
That’s pretty much every mmo out there, especially with macros.
Another issue is dungeons, every dungeon is just getting one or two shot by boss mobs that seemingly didn’t even hit you at all and then running back to your corpse dozens of times.
That happened with my first ever dungeon run, because we didn’t know what to expect. Our second run we only had 2 deaths the entire time, because we figured out how to use field/finisher combos, and how to take advantage of boons and conditions so that we barely take any damage.
That’s the thing about this game. Once you figure out what the classes are capable of, the content gets to be way easier. You can’t just run in and tank/spank without any sort of strategy in this game.
BTW, I’m not sure how long you hang out at each event area, but a majority of them seem to have multiple stages, followed by an escort mission that takes you to the next “quest” area. So really, each heart area can have up to 4 quests if you just hang out and watch the events unfold rather than running to the next heart.
On one of my alts I rushed through the starter area, going heart to heart completing them, and I was only level 12 by the time I finished the 1-15 area map. On another alt, I stopped and did each event, and the escorts missions, and ended up around level 20 by the time I finished the same map.
it’s not a matter of wanting more content or wanting to skip content, it’s a matter of wanting to experience the current questing content in reasonably immersive way without having to grind out a few levels every few quests.
It sounds like you are wanting a single player game, to be honest. One that progresses from point A to point B with no break in the storyline.
I’ve been having the opposite problem, I seem to be leveling up too fast. Literally everything you do in this game gives you XP. It’s hard to even walk 10 feet without getting XP from something. I got a few levels just from crafting. I dinged once from raising someone.
I’m not sure if you are using foods or potions, but those give you a pretty good boost. Might help you level a bit quicker to stay at level with the map.
go read some warcraft book and then speak
pandaren arent’ in the warcraft universe
I didn’t say it was in the warcraft books, that doesn’t mean it’s not part of the lore/setting though. Look at all of the “pop-culture” references in the game, that stuff isn’t in the warcraft books either.
Fact is, the Pandaren race was mentioned back in 2002 by Blizzard (even if it was an April Fools joke), so you can’t say it was created just to cater to Asian grinders.
It doesn’t matter how innovative, how fun, or how challenging a game is, someone will always complain about it.
The problem is, people always compare new games to older ones, and wonder why they can’t use the same play-style in this new game. When the same old play-style doesn’t work, they complain and hope the devs change it. (ie. why can’t I stand in one spot and tank this mob while a healer spam heals me!?!)
If the devs cave and change it, then we’re right back to playing the same old MMO that we’ve played before.
@Tekillya, I know how you feel, you want it to go on forever, but nothing lasts forever. I knew what I was getting in to from the beginning, so I’ve been taking my time. I have yet to get even close to level cap on any of my 7 characters, my highest is a level 45 guardian.
I plan on taking my time to draw it out as long as possible, hopefully they’ll start putting out expansion packs like they did with GW1.

I didnt rush to 80, you would know that if you read my thread.
I was replying to someone who asked what a “real RPG game” was, not really replying to the OP.
All I can suggest is, create a new character, and PLAY the game. By play I mean, go screw around and have fun. I have 7 characters total, and they’re all in the 20 to 40 level range. I also play about 5 hours a day (which honestly is way too much), and I have yet to get close to level cap.
This isn’t that game where you play work in it with objectives to complete and tasks to accomplish in the most timely and proficient manner. That type of playstyle isn’t compatible with this game.
They may like it for what it is, and that is great, but that doesn’t mean only they should be catered to.
A lot of people in history have liked things that were ultimately changed, and a lot of those changes were probably for the better.
If someone designs a very shallow game, and a lot of players liked that design… would it still be in the best interest of the company? Do shallow mmorpgs have longevity? I am not specifically speaking about gw2 here, even though I personally feel the shoe fits (just my opinion) but in general, should anet look to improve the game in ways that will give it lasting power? If people are getting bored of your game quickly, that is never a good thing.
I believe it is in the best interest of the company to keep it the way it is. At least then they will have a loyal fan-base, even if it becomes a niche game. The players that want this game changed to be more like other games in the genre are the players who hop from MMO to MMO burning through content, you can NEVER make that type of player happy, unless you can magically produce unlimited content out of your kitten.
If the game was changed, it would not only alienate its fan-base, but it would lose those players who it was catered to because they’d get bored just as quickly after they burn through everything. That’s just a lose-lose situation.

This is the kinda logic i really do not agree with. If something isn’t satisfactory by someone’s standards they should at least be able to voice what they think… If people didn’t try to foster change when they encountered something they felt was subpar, nothing would ever be improved upon.
Lots of people love the game for what it is. People coming from other games wanting Anet to change it to be more like that game is what puts people off.
I’m sure if I came from a FPS game, and complained that GW2 doesn’t have enough FPS targeting, people would think it was a stupid suggestion too.
let me tell you something
if you like WoW so be it, they release an expansion with Pandas that have no lore with the warcraft universe only to have success in the Asia market. GW2 is NOT WOW and WOW will never be GW2. Most people say that gw2 is empty and shallow cause of the no reward / no kitten system…. in gw2 you are the same with anyone else..if you do not like it you know where to go…
ps. and i have played wow for a good 5 years
I guess you don’t know your WoW history then… the Pandaren race was first mentioned as an April Fools joke waaaay back in 2002. It’s been a part of the lore for as long as the game as been around, pretty much.
I had an engineer, got it to level 35, and deleted it. I just couldn’t get in to dropping totems all the time, er turrets, whatever.
Level 31 thief – 9/10
Level 45 guardian – 9/10
Level 21 warrior – 7/10
Level 40 elementalist – 8/10
Level 28 mesmer – 5/10 (seems like too much effort to put out decent dps)
Level 35 ranger- 8/10
Level 27 necro – 5/10 (just not my playstyle I guess)
(edited by Stevoli.8795)
This game is it’s own entity, I didn’t read anything official about this game supposedly competing with WoW as top mmorpg, other than rabid fans of either stating so.
As for the rest of your post. If you play all games in one genre the exact same way, then you will always end up comparing them to your original first experience in the genre.
A “Real RPG”? It stands for Role Playing Game, as in, you take on the role of your character, and immerse yourself in the world.
“A role-playing game (RPG and sometimes roleplaying game) is a game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. "
Kids these days think RPGs are all about progression and grinding your way to end game as fast a possible. They’re in a hurry to get things done, so they rush and rush until GW2 is no fun.
Little tip… if you aren’t having fun anymore, go do something else! Anything in excess can become boring, even the best thing in the world.
“Stand Down” lets toggle which guild you are currently representing.
In GW2, you can basically join multiple guilds, and then choose which one you are representing currently, on-the-fly.
Try crafting. You get XP for it, plus you can make some pretty decent on-level gear.
Kessex Hills, where the centaurs are trying to repair the bridge… there’s always at least 15 to 20 characters sitting there pressing 1 over and over again, for days at a time.
First off, levels 1 to 80 ARE end game, I suggest you read the end game reimagined blog by Anet. https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/the-endgame-reimagined/
Secondly, I agree about the bots, I’ve been reporting them non-stop, starting to feel like a second job.
It’s the #1 skill. Seems like a bug IMO, if you angle your camera upwards a bit while running forward, then hit 1, it will launch the keg pretty kitten far.
@OP, so you want heart quests to give triple the XP that they give now so you can move on to the next map without doing anything other than heart quests, or you want triple the heart quests so you can run around ticking them off before moving to the next map?
You know, originally those hearts weren’t even there, people had to actually explore to find favor NPCs and events. They were added in later because people wanted some sort of “direction”.
Same experience here, I’ve reported 2 bots that were just standing in one area swinging their weapons over and over and over. They’ve been in that same place for the past week now, every day.
Not sure why they can’t just look at a log and say “oh yeah, they’ve been pressing the 1 key for the past 120 hours every 2 seconds, it’s a bot, ban it.”
