Choosing The Best Players to Listen To

I must say, that without the long(er) playing ‘vets’ who made video’s and walkthroughs of JP’s/dungeons/Fractals and the likes, it would be hard(er) for other players to find out stuff or figure things out.

That being said, it’s not always optimal to only listen to what vets have to say, a new player, although with less experience, can have more insight and logic than someone who’s ‘rusted’ into a certain mindset.

As an example, and i’m not by any means an expert, i made my guardian build without looking at any vids or forum suggestions wanting to see if i had the gameplay i desired right (max dps). Turns out that even a nub like me hits it right on the spot in all of it when i see that it matches the ‘meta’ for max dps perfectly. So logic and some common sense can bring you a long way.

You can see that some people still break ‘records’, by learning what others did before them and improving on it, even ‘newer’ players. So i wouldn’t just discard the newer players that offer a fresh and inspiring view.

What I learned today.

Then there are the opinionated kittenhats that want to shove their views down other people’s throats.

By that reasoning and the request to hide things that are part of the game, you could say that the developers fall into that category. They designed this game the way THEY see things. I hate the look of the sclerite karka backpiece (tentacles…), so please remove it from the game ?…
Seriously, everything ingame is the way the dev’s intended it to be. Wether you like it or not is irrelevant, if you don’t then don’t play the game. The only reason mini’s are hidden because of player population is to avoid to much lag. (server vs client data transfer)
But to hide things because some people don’t like it is a load of crap.

1. if the reasoning is aestethics, then it should be a big nono. If i don’t like a game because of the way it looks or parts of it look, then i simply don’t play it.

2. if the reasoning is obtaining a more comfortable gameplay for lower end systems, then there are other ways to get that :
- lower resolutions
- less graphical quality
-….and whatever other graphic option you can turn off.

You might as well just add a single player mode to the game that turns off every other player so you can roam the game by yourself without looking at any other skin/item.

Taking things to the ‘extreme’ as you call it, is an example of how different the opinions are and how silly it all is.

If the problem is the low fps, then i would say get yourself a better system or graphics card. But don’t blame the game for the way it was designed, skins included.
If the problem is with other players, then yes, go play tetris would be my advice. Or to take it to the extreme, stick a needle in your eyes so you’ll never have to look at other people again. (that was sarcasm btw.)

Beside that, you can choose the way you play, no need to follow the ‘meta’ to the letter.
And i find some skins really nice for the weapons you mention. Torch on the side : no fire, pull it out, it lights up (as supposed).

As much as you have a right to show it off, we have a right to choose not to see it.

You can just play tetris then, no skins to be seen in there. Unless you want all the blocks to have the same color.

Since the beginning of ‘gaming’ on pc (old enough to have been there) developers have tried to improve the graphics of their products. A part of the gamers can not afford or do not have the means to keep up with the demands of some games, altough most want a ‘real lifelike’ experience.

It’s understandable that one wants options to lower graphic settings to have a more enjoyable higher fps experience, but removing (hiding) parts of a game to achieve that,is like asking “don’t show me the different faces, hairstyles,…, let’s make everything look the same”. Let’s give them all the same armor, the same buildings, or wait, let’s go back 20 years and make it look like the original wolfenstein with one texture for every wall in a map.

In my personal opinion, although i understand the reasoning behind it, one either upgrades their system to be able to play a game or one plays it at a lower resolution, in which case they don’t get to see the true intention of the dev’s.

People who purchase cosmetic items do so for themselves not others.

That’s called being desillusional. You ALWAYS dress up for others. What’s the point of dressing up if others don’t see it ? People want to look good for others, to make an impression, it’s the same in games.

If you remove items from a game by hiding them then there would be no need to get different skins or have different character looks.

You can either go out and look like a bum, or dress up and impress the one you want. Same principle. Basic concept.

I hope you didn’t expect something special for doing map events, because that would indeed be a first for GW2…. If you look at the ‘rewards’ for some collections, it’s rather bland and uninspiring. I wouldn’t expect anything more or better from map events at this point.

I’ve played games that scaled exp so high, it would take a month to get 1 level.

I laughed so hard at this. How about a game where mobs give around 200 exp ea kill, no quests, no exp scrolls, and you need 8,705,986,960 exp to gain 1 level. Means you need to kill over 42 million mobs. 1 month ? That’s peanuts. Oh, and when you die you lose 5% of the total exp of that level.

Dynamic IP and authenticator

Sthenith.5196

If your pc is behind a router and you have DHCP (in router settings enabled), then you can let the authenticator “remember this network” (checkbox).

The authenticator will remember your pc’s ip address, provided your pc’s ip stays the same (like : 192.168.0.x or something). I had the same thing happen to me after my router Dc’d on me, but that happens only very rare. It doesn’t matter if your provider refreshes your ip every few days, your internal ip stays the same.

If you have a ‘pass-through’ (the external ip = internal pc ip) then this won’t work oc.

You can use your spirit shards to get Eldritch scrolls (at the MF). With those you can make all sorts of weapons and items that can be sold for gold.

Keep in mind though that the mats you need, like 250 vials of blood (highest tier) will take some time to farm as well. Just look at the wiki for eldritch scroll and look at the combinations for the mystic forge – no recipe needed.

And it’s not just leatherworking, it’s almost all the crafts that have some sort of use.

p.s. : some items are part of a collection too i believe.

The effort might not be viable to accomplish this.

You probably mean “it might not be worth the effort to do it” , in which case i totally agree with you.

At first i thought i might go for a legendary weapon, but when i got my first pre from the MF (at a 50G investment of rares), i quickly decided to sell it because the effort of obtaining all the mats needed wouldn’t be worth it.
I’m already tired of looking at all those ‘amazing Leg. skins’ with their amazing footstep trails…. seriously, there are better skins out there which cost a fraction of the Leg.weapons. And i suspect if they release Leg. armors, it will be the same.
Amaaaaaazing !…for about 5 minutes.

Does not worth the effort for me, the grind is too much.

Indeed.
But that’s what this game is to obtain anything : a grind. That’s why some ppl never leave PvP or WvW. Without it, this game would probably be on the backend.

I don’t even want to think about making legendary armor/jewelry. As it stands now, you need to do certain instances (dungeons) to even make a legendary weapon, not to mention the sheer cost or time spend farming of obtaining all the rest.

If the requirements to make a legendary armorpiece or jewelry will be of the same order, i can almost guarantuee that most players will not even think about getting it.

After watching how many ppl make legendary weapons in comparison to those who don’t, you can assume that there are different categories of players :

1. the farmers who spend most of their time in instances/dungeons, making as much cash as possible to make a leg. weapon.
2. the cashshoppers, who just buy stuff off the TP and farm just enough to make it.
3. those that don’t care, but wish they had the luck/cash to make one.

Count the cost of a leg. weapon. Both in cash and time spent. Now do that times six.
Gratz, you now have a leg. armor set. And it will only matter to those that absolutely want it, because they can hardly increase the armor stats on it now, you know : vertical progression being a nono….

Besides, if the stats don’t change, why would anyone go for it (except looks maybe) over the ascended gear ? Changing stats ? Why ? Ppl who want it usually go with the “meta” of going full zerker.

But all that aside, what i’m most wary about is the increased Fractals. lvl 100 fractal ?
To what end ? To have a challenge ? If i wanted that i wouldn’t play this brainless game where you target, faceroll your keyboard and collect the drop in your meta gear.
Even pug groups in fractals already know what to do there (most of em do) and it will become no different in the 50+ fractals after a while.

Honestly, the Dev’s logic escapes me.

Take a dartsboard, hang it on the wall in Anet’s office and occasionally throw a dart at it to determine what class and skill to change. You get the same rediculous result you have now.
Players are asking for some needed changes to certain traits and skills, and instead they do something completely different and baffling (to say the least) which begs me to question if they even played their own game.

Over half the guild i’m in doesn’t even come online anymore and even then they just do a dialy and move to another game, hoping (against better judgement) that some things will improve. So far, that ain’t happening.

Personally, i would love to see an improved renderer in this game above of what we have now. Don’t get me wrong, i applaud any graphics improvement, esp for those with high-end cards like myself, but i wouldn’t want it at the cost of content development.

That being said, they’d better come up with something, i’ve been looking at other games that are currently in development or will be released in the (very) near future, and compared to those games, GW2 is antiquated.

Some of those games have graphics that just blow you away. I understand that a lot of gamers don’t have the possibility or finances immediately available to ‘upgrade’ their rigs, but come on, when you see what game developers are dissing out now….

Just look at some of the newest game titles on youtube, those games are not only of superior quality in the graphics department, but have hours and hours of content as well.

I think it’s kinda telling when i need something like SweetFx to improve the way a game looks and feels when you have all the goodies already built into a new renderer.
I’m running this game on a triple screen setup, but honestly, my card doesn’t even break into a sweat with everything maxed.

Necro not looking good for PvE in HoT

A very small minority of players are actually interested in those DPS meta’s and mostly this is because they’re also the speedrunners in dungeons.

Outside of it, most players, except those absolutely wanting to ‘save time’ will accept necro’s (and other classes) into their parties, wether it be fractals (also pve) or WB’s or in SW.

Most of us don’t care about those speedfreaks in their oh so precious dungeon runs. I don’t even want to know who broke what record in what instance, i don’t frikkin care, and 95% of the players don’t either.
You broke a speedrun record ? Grats, give yourself a pixelated medal and move on.

Fact is, every class has certain weaknesses and strengths, and those that choose a certain build, no matter what their class, do so because it’s fun.

Personally, i’d rather have a necro with me in an instance or in SW for example, that rezzes me when i get downed so i can contribute to the overall dps or goal, then some dps freak who just ignores everything around him/her while staring at their dmg numbers popping up.

Some like to maximize their damage, break records and whatnot, good for them. some like to have fun in other ways, contributing in other ways, playing a certain class even if it means they do less dmg, well, good for them, they got my 2 thumbs up.

Nothing is set in stone as far as HoT is concerned, so you can’t start worrying just yet, but my guess is that necro’s will bring something to the content that parties might need. Even if it’s a downed player with an extra hp bar. So to speak :s

Play the char you like, the build you like, the way you like. And wait to see what will change and what not. Nothing more to it.

… thats all that matters in dungeons.

Dungeons. right. Make one toon that goes there, full zerk meta, max dps (it’s over 9000!!!) and make all others for everything else. Problem solved.

I see all that hype about the pu-burst-shatter-whatever crap and i’m just thinking : "are those FotM players actually having fun ?
I’v been building my mesmer the way i want it, and i get beaten to a pulp to a FotM mesmer in PvP, but i wouldn’t change my toon for anything in the world. Seeing enemies getting melted by bleeds-burns-confusions and anything i can throw at them is kinda fun to watch.

PvE condi non PU build

Sthenith.5196

Well, i decided to follow your advice and change some things of my build, but not that much though, since i’m kind of used to it.

- changed to runes of the Undead (more condi dmg ? hell yeh! )
- changed to sigil of bursting
- changed 2 traits but kept domination
- changed some skills : went with signet of midnight

For now, i deal a lot more condi dmg, my shatters seem to matter more and i still have the feel of melting mobs away.
Although the crit from rabid is nice, i prefer having a bit more hp, esp when facing bosses in SW or multiple mobs (think several terragriffs) at once. And it’s definately valid for WvW.

Thx for the advice, it really boosted my character.

PvE condi non PU build

Sthenith.5196

Hi all, i tried to get closest to my current build as possible, although i sometimes change my setup a little (the traits) depending on what i’m doing and where.

Anyone experienced enough to give some advice on my build :

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vhEQNAW7fnsICdqhtqBOoBcrhFVDysGNPGoLYoXhMAFo4A-TxyCABQoEEgDCAg6GMw0HyPBAsUG0kSvl3fwH1d8UlgpvAABAOAkyhdDkCAmlVA-e

My goal is to reach a pure condi build without the need for PU (unless i go into hidden depths in SW) while trying to keep survivability high.

I mostly go into SW, sometimes into WvW, never PvP. I did notice that the buildeditor gives me diff value for condi dmg then what i see there : my base condi ingame is over 2K buffed. And my condi duration (at least on confusion) indicates 100%.

I try to keep 3 clones or phantasms up nearly all the time and shatter as soon as i can summon more clones/phantasms.

Other then that, it’s a dire build (not rabid because i need toughness to increase condi from trait and vit for condi survival, have second berserker set+ weapons in inventory).

Any remarks welcomed.

Rangers screw up too many things because they can’t stow their pet.

You can put it way, but those buggers pop up as soon as you attack.

It’s something a lot of rangers (if not all) have asked for for a long time now. The disabling of pets for certain situations. Doesn’t seem that hard to do, but apparently it’s not a dev’s priority.

For now, rangers have to settle for guard mode, but even then it’s troublesome. I just use a pet for the might stack and keep it close.

-Platinum dubloon : +4% Boon Duration

Combine a few of those into items together with foods/utilities, and you can reach a respectable increase in boon duration.
If it’s worth it ? probably not.

Boon Duration

Sthenith.5196

People might love Hoelbrak as you state, but using it for the decrease in condi duration isn’t really that benificial, in fact it has a minor impact seeing the current post-patch status of durations and stacks.

Let’s take mesmers Winds of Chaos :
- Bleeding (7s): 298 Damage

That is, when using all the foods and sigils like described above, increased by 100%, which doubles that to a whopping 14 seconds. With Hoelbrak this is reduced by 20 percent : 2.8 seconds (and numbers are always rounded in GW2).
Basically you shave off 3 seconds on that particular condition, leaving 11 seconds of one condition.

Is it less long ? yes. But the lenght reduction of it is negligable since most wont last that long when several stacks and several conditions are tickin away.
Count to eleven out loud. That’s long in a fight. 3 seconds won’t make a huge difference. And a 20% reduction on a condi that lasts 5 seconds or less only takes 1 tick away (all is rounded down)

Taken from wiki :

Conditions which inflict damage over time (bleeding, burning, torment and poison) deal damage each full second and a fractional damage either at the beginning or end of their duration. Thus, if a skill that inflicts poison with a duration of 6 seconds has its duration increased to 6.9 seconds through traits, it will show 7s in its tooltips, but will actually only deal full damage 6 times, the remaining duration will deal a fractional damage. Condition duration cannot be increased over 100%

The build suggested by Fay is pretty much on spot, but i would have dropped the mantra for mirror images, thereby using 2 clones to keep up pressure and being able to shatter faster. If that is your goal oc.

people often get ‘confused’ ,to use the right word, if there are multiple clones running around charging at them to be shattered. While a mantra to daze the opponent seems nice, 2 clones ready to shatter (which deals more dmg anyways) seems a more strategic option.

And, like they say, practice makes perfect. You can’t expect results overnight, you only learn by watching video’s and applying what you see in practice. Learn to combo and anticipate.

About 3 weeks ago i rolled a mesmer on my last open slot, mainly because i wanted a “ranged” toon besides ele and ranger. And to see if it was any fun.
I started out on focusing on power with GS – S/F for pve map roaming, but have since then completely chnged to full Dire condi build. A lot of fun, but granted, not the best choice to go into dungeons or do WB’s (stationary ones).

That being said, i’m kinda tired of hearing ‘mesmers are OP". They’re not. Only a few are because they are skilled, the rest just hops on the new bandwagon and basically sucks at it. Wether it is a shatter build or condi build, they go down just the same as any other toon, you just have to learn how.

Condi clean doesn’t only happen when an ele switches to water. Some ele’s can and will run with sigils of cleansing, meaning they condi clean every time they switch attunements (mine does), so you can’t really put condi pressure on something like that. But your best bet is when they come out of water into fire. Throw everything you got on it at that moment and don’t let up because once water is off CD, they heal up again.

Well, ranger with LB/GS who built against condi’s is going to be hard(er) to kill, and they can quickly get out of your 900 range depending on their skills and use of GS3.
With LB having the bigger range, you’ll be under pressure as soon as they see you, so best to get at when stealthed.
Any good ranger agaisnt mesmer will use signet of renewal anyways.

Thieves are more squishy (most are) but shouldn’t be that much of a problem, unless it’s not a 1v1 fight.

Warriors should be a preferred target, and maybe guards too (don’t play guardian, so i dunno really)

I kinda feel this is a mix&match sort of build. It’s not great in power (direct dmg) nor is it great in condi. You don’t make full use of clones or phantasms so you can’t keep constant pressure up from phantasms or clones.

You say if condi doesn’t work, power will, but i’d rather doubt that, seeing your direct dmg being lower. Against those that know how to cleanse condi’s you’ll have a hard time, and against pure condi mesmers, well, i think you’ll be sheer out of luck there.

But who knows, it might work somehow, but it’s not a build i would have chosen.

The Prismatic Phantasmal Shatter

in Mesmer

Posted by: Sthenith.5196

Sthenith.5196

You’re basically a PU shatter mesmer as far as i see it, but i would have gone with inspiration instead of dueling.

With inspiration III – V – VII your opponent cannot just kill off your phantasms (retaliation), you heal yourself when shattering and you get a defender when evading or dodging.

Seems to me you just use your clones and phantasms just for shattering, so there is no need for fury on them.
You will lose the clone on dodge, but you gain a defender instead, and they do much more dmg then just a clone.

The way i see it :
you get close, summon clones and a decoy, shatter (3 clones), dodge an attack and gain a defender, summon a swordsman, they both have retaliation and you can keep the pressure up and you’ve healed yourself in the process. Stealth, switch to pistol, summon and go to shatter again. By that time your clones should (almost) be ready again.

But as it stands, it’s a nice build.

No tank, No healer, No trinity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sthenith.5196

Sthenith.5196

This becomes all so confusing in the end.

Basically, from what i understand :

- no trinity in GW2

- every class is NOT bound by choosing a specific role out of tank/support/healer

- each class can choose on the fly (soft swap) what kind of role they bring to the table

it blends a mix depending on your build and allows you to actively swap roles or soft play between roles

- we are not concerned about the combat system, but are more concerned about the encounters (PvE) and mobs.

It’s that the mobs and encounters we have provided so far very rarely allow/encourage you to make use of the combat system as intended.

- and lastly, they will design HoT so that it will be more suited to the combat system.

but one of our goals with HoT is to help allow more room for players to experience the full range of the combat system in PvE

So what they’re saying is that we can choose to play what we want no matter what class, choose to bring more support or tank or heals (swapping roles) and that HoT will actively encourage you to do so in order for players to fully experience the combat system.

As far as i understand this, they’re saying :

Anyone can be support or tank or healer and focus on that role on the fly without the need to wait for someone specific to fullfill that role.
When you’re in a party that need a tank so to speak, anyone can take that role. Or if you need a healer, anyone can do that. There is no one specific you need to wait for.
There is no fixed trinity because anyone can fulfill that role no matter what race, class.

Staff/scepter+pistol condi build viable?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Sthenith.5196

Sthenith.5196

I really don’t follow anything anymore as soon as someone says ‘meta’. I find it rather unimportant since i believe you need to adapt your gear/skills to your own playstyle.

That being said, i first went with rampagers because i wanted to achieve a decent damage and a high critrate. Using GS/ Sword+Focus for general PvE.

Then i came to watch some video’s of experienced mesmers and saw what they can do both in PvE and WvW. And oh boy, was i in for a surprise. Condi/shatter builds simply dominated in some situations. (no, i’m not going into a discussion with ppl who think they know it all better in this regard)

So i decided to go :
- Dire set
- Dire/rabid jewelry
-Staff // Sc/torch.

After trying this out with exotics, i must say : 1900+ condi damage, the amount of confusions (duration also 100%) and torments you can apply and the sheer armor and hp you gain makes a dire mesmer a force to be reckoned with.

Sure, the math shows that for pure PvE a zerk build with the correct traits/skills would deal more damage (at least in 1v1), but honestly…. a condi build is soooo much fun to play, you get ‘almost’ a feeling of immortality, and you get to see enemies melt away in front of you.
Silverwastes is a blast, and anyone foolish enough to come at you in WvW will be in for a dam hard fight.

Since i’m using exotics, i can switch between a more traditional build or just go plainly with a Dire condi build.

I would advise OP to do the same : test out the build YOU like and want, then determine what asc build you want to go with and disregard any mathfreak meta crap ppl are trying to force you into.

YOU make the choice, and trust me, when you see those numbers ticking away at enemies, you’re gonna love condi, even if it does a bit less dmg. It’s a blast.

Few missing stat points from trait lines won’t have a big impact.

Every traitline had 300 statpoints if you went with the old system where you could theroretically build around those stat points.
You could increase your hp for example. For those that had low hp it could mean life or death in certain situations. (less or more time to do a condi cleanse f.i.)

So yes, it does have an impact on those that were build that way, the devs said as much before the patch was released.

Commanders of Tyria

You can’t just issue commander tags based on ‘merit’ given by other players, that would always lead to griefing.

I’ve seen great commanders at events, i’ve seen bad commanders standing idle at events like in SW until the breach happens. I’ve seen good ones in WvW and i’ve seen some that hop all over the map with ppl having no clue what’s going on.

After a while you get to know them and get to know who to follow (trusted) and who not so much (unknown/untrusted). I think that’s the most you can expect.

I can buy a commander tag, put it up, and i’m sure ppl will just follow me around or come to my location when they see a tag during an event, doesn’t mean i’m any good at it. Only experience and time can tell that.

What surprises me, time and again, is that at WB’s i sometimes see 15+ tags…. none have any sense of turning it off ? Or is it just a “Look at me, i’m so awesome” mentality ?

Besides, most things can be done without having commanders present, they just facilitate a location to go to when in doubt or unexperienced. Maybe it’s just me.

Before all the changes came around, they announced that ‘certain’ builds were going to have issues with the new system. Especially those that went off the beaten track and went with specific trait stat builds, like the one OP was talking about.

It’s completely understandable that one is upset when a given build that used to work fine, now is completely useless because of the implemented changes.

I went off the beaten path with one of my characters (warrior) , but thankfully i had prepared as soon as i heard about it my ascended set that is now berserkers (zojja’s).

I do notice a difference with going to a more ‘standard’ build :
- more power
- same survivability (well, a bit more)
- less versatility
But all in all, not a bad change.

However, should i not have prepared that way, i’m sure my build would have been powerless to the onslaught of traitchanges and statchanges.

The biggest problem is the conversion they offer :
- asc gear changes cost you the upgrades, and in all honesty, the upgrade extractors are definately not worth the price of the runes.
- changes in stats cannot be completely compensated by changing your ascended gear, most of the time (not always though) trinkets come in to place as well. If they’re ascended, well, you’re kitten out of luck as they say, those can’t be changed on the fly.

What it comes down to is that those that didn’t follow the so-called standard builds, are now paying for it.
I find it kind of baffling that Anet dev’s haven’t been able or seen fit to implement a system (like in a lot of other mmo’s) that allows players to distibute their stat points themselves. Give them some freedom of how much HP/def/power/…etc they want on their toon.

All the changes really did was push people into some kind of tunnelling system. You can go with whatever gear you want, but you will end up in one or another tunnel. If you don’t, your character is useless. Choose gear, choose traits, go with power or condi, it all doesn’t matter, since in the end, you will follow the roadmap layed out.
If you don’t, you fall out of the boat.

All armor broken -> unrevivable

Allthose methods are fine, but there’s a simple solution :

- reduce the time you can go afk in SW. period.

Whenever i want to go SW to farm or do events, i’m prepared. If i do need to go to the bathroom or do something else, i’m not away for more then 10 minutes.

If you’re in a party and you’re away from the zone for that amount of time, party members will boot you, so why won’t the game ? You either play the game or you don’t (afk), if you don’t, you get booted out. And 10 minutes is more then enuf time to take a small bathroom break or get some coffee or something.

Don’t make it complicated, just boot inactives after 10 minutes and your problem is solved. No need for a broken armor check.

I’m already happy that other ppl make video’s on how they do the JP’s, because otherwise i wouldn’t even bother with those. Some are nearly impossible to find (behind some hidden underwater entrance you only see when it’s right in your face, literally) , some are very confusing to do (several pathways) and some are very frustrating cause they’re bugged (waiting for fixes).

Some JP’s are well designed and a lot of fun to do, but having you die constantly at an entrance like this one puts more ppl into a fit of frustration then anything else.

Take a look at the latest LA jp. Players asking for money to help you teleport to each chest….really…. I started that particular one and gave up on it as soon as i was trying to jump from cable to cable on rooftops, once that crap starts count me out.

JP’s should be challenging and FUN to do, but i won’t spend more then an hour trying to figure out where the JP is, let alone trying countless times figuring out the right way and angle to jump (and dying just as many)

So a BIG thanks to those that went before and made the video walkthroughs. Saves me a heap of time and frustration.

“Dragon Loaf bread”.

Recipe :

5 dragonite ingot
1 chilli pepper
1 loaf of bread
10 jugs of water

=
+60 Ferocity
+60 power
20% chance to apply 3 stacks of burning on critical
+10% Experience from kills

Add that to the chef and i’m happy.

I watched the first video linked by OP, and seriously…. either that ‘reviewer’ doesn’t know how to read things properly, or he’s to lazy to even try to understand what’s going on.

I only saw him in some minor cities and one in LA, for the rest he was in wayfarer foothills, when that event was going on/started, he didn’t even ask what it was all about.

In my opinion, that guy doesn’t have a clue how to play an mmo, because one of the first things you learn is getting to know the UI, and talk to people ingame if you have any questions. Apparently he’s to shy and has to call friends to get a clue.

That ‘review’ was pointless. Granted, renown hearts aren’t the friendliest things to level up, but he didn’t even realize that exploring in itself gave exp (and lots i might add, i lvld a toon from 77-79 today by only that, last level (79-80) in SW).

Video definately NOT representative of most new players.

For those thatthink levelling takes to long : my first char ever in this game i lvld within 7 days to 80 (a few months ago) , my last one i lvld in 4 days. Doesn’t take a genius, just some common sense.

Basically the game doesnt have the depth it needs to keep players around.

Depth ? I don’t think any mmo has enough depth to keep players around constantly. The longest running mmo i’ve played is around for over 7 years now (no, not wow), and believe me, that game was filled to the brim with instances, dailies and whatnot.
But at some point people just get bored of it, wether it’s sooner or later.

Most players like to play the game somewhat relaxed with some more “challenging” content that for them is playable.

I almost never do dungeons, just because i can’t be bothered to learn exactly how to run it, what path to take, where to stack might and how and all that stuff. Exploration yeh, learning something like it’s some manual, no thx.

Challenging content is for everyone different : make it to hard and the majority will give up, make it to easy, and ppl complain about a lack of difficulty. Finding the right balance there is hard to do.

I know some games that went down fast because the content (read bossfights and instances) were nearly impossible to do unless you had exceptional skills and gear.

Low level more powerful than down scaled

Go look at some of the test results.

And that’s all it is : a test about dmg output, because you know, dmg is everything in this game….no skills or traits or anything else is needed. Hell, why not delete everything and give chars just one F. stat : power.

That way you don’t have to worry about calculations and stare yourself blind on damage output.

/sarcasm.

I don’t need test results to see that there’s a bunch of whiny B. posting comparisons and damage calculations instead of playing in the higher lvl zones. No, now they’re having a smack at the little guy who’s just starting his/her journey.

Low level more powerful than down scaled

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sthenith.5196

Downscaling simply means your lvl 80 char won’t be able to 1-shot things in low level zones. The whole purpose of levelling is to have access to higer level content and to gear up your char for that content.

If a lower level char has a bit more ‘power’, so what ? You don’t see a lvl 2 in SW or killing Jormag/Teq either. There is no ‘upscaling’ in pve.

The Op posted 2 screenshots that aren’t even comparable. One is a lvl 2 char, the other is a downscaled lvl 80 to lvl 6. Even the later screenshots prove nothing : different rings, diff earrings, backpack…

If you want a real comparison : make em both nude, no gear or ornaments, then compare. The difference might be there, but at that level it makes hardly any difference.

Those saying it’s unfair or illogical is irrelevant since the intent isn’t to explain downscaling but to regulate the difficulty of content. Low level content is still trivial to downscaled players so at the very least it helps upscaled events so on-level players have a better chance of participating.

a +1 to that.

But some will always find things to complain about.
“Ooh, i’m a lvl 80, i must have a bigger D. then yours, otherwise it isn’t fair”, well boohooo… that lvl 2 or whatever will find him/herself in the same situation after levelling.

Low level zones are for low levels, but when a high lvl comes along they get downscaled to avoid em to smack everything in sight. Simple and effective. Really…wo gives a F. that lower lvls have that ieni bit of ‘power’ more.

Oh, and btw, did you even LOOK at the skillbar ? I hardly doubt anyone with 2 skills can overpower a downscaled char with it’s full skillset…..

How rediculous can one get, seriously.

New trait system Good or bad?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sthenith.5196

I like the new trait system. That being said, some traits and some merges are…confusing and not really in their right place. BUT, this leads to making a decision, which in itself is good.

Instead of just selecting traits for your class, you now have to make some difficult choices. In itself it makes players think more about how they want to play their chars.

All gear is being upscaled in stats to compensate for the stats taken from the trait system.
The only area where this causes any issues is with builds that relied on the trait stats while not using equipment that complimented those stats

And that is as should be imo. As an example, i take my elementalist. Built for pure damage with full berserkers, i found out he has now less HP but way more power. If i want to keep my hp high, then i need to rethink my gearchoice and will definately lose out on power. Which is as should be.

The only ones that are having trouble with the new gearsystem and traits are those that went with “off-beat” builds. But for all the rest, you have what you went for.
If you went for a zerk meta, then your dmg output will still be high, but you will no longer depend on stats from traits, you will have the freedom to choose what traits you want without having to think about the added stats they used to give you.
Traitchoice is no longer bound by statchoice.

Personally, i love it. And all those who now complain about their ascended gear, i’m sorry, but you have to get a grip. Instead of whining about what you had, try thinking about what you’re going to have.

Sure, there are some bugs and unbalance here and there, but those will eventually be ironed out.

Those that propose new traitchanges, wake up, it’s not going to happen unless it’s something really minor (tweaking), and those that really do not like anything , well, there’s always another game to play.

Now is just the time to testrun everything, and instead of whining over what you had, help improve what we have.

Power Ranger with Valkyrie viable?

It is possible to run it very efficiently.
Personally i have a pure zerk ranger, and i truly love her, but i have valkyrie on warrior, and honestly, it’s friggin awesome.

Sure, you’ll have a bit less dps. But who cares when you can have a big HP pool, increased dmg from pets, using a juvi jungle stalker to stack more might on you, and trust me, you’ll hit pretty hard while being able to survive better.

She’s got good gear so i aint switching now, but given the choice, i’d go valk on her from the get go.

how do you play a staff ele

in Elementalist

Posted by: Sthenith.5196

Sthenith.5196

I stayed with my staff ele build for PvE :

- full zerk
- 2700+ power unbuffed
- low(er) hp pool
- went traits fire/water/arcane

Mainly used for pve roaming (map explore/ worldbosses /events /champ trains/SW) , i try to support by stacking might first, then use lava font, my Aoe’s, switch to water for cleansings (sigil of cleansing on staff for switching to other attunements) and heals, and just hammer down on the bosses/champs.

The low hp pool causes me to avoid soloing mobs in SW, although they go down fast if you time it right to increase burning stacks.
If needed i can use S/D for more might stacking before fights, but is usually not needed in bigger groups.

All in all, i’m pretty happy with the traits now and plan on staying staff for a long time to come. Oh, and i don’t PvP on ele, way to squishy as it is now. But hits like a ton.
